Definitely. We're in those dog days of summer where not much is going on, but everything's going on. All these kids are prepping for the fall sports coming up. They're getting ready. They're sweating right now on the field. Uh you said earlier, you've been at every football camp going on right now.

I tell you what, the kids are the kids are punching it up, man. They're uh there's a good feel uh around the county that uh this year is gonna be uh excellent for everybody. Everybody look good. Actually, everybody does look good from uh from Keystone. I saw Ridgeview, I talked to Jason Smith, and uh I've been around the town, and uh that's gonna be an interesting July. A lot of times they take a break in July and they come back strong at the end of July, August as we go into the the preseason. So uh we'll tap in into that. And then our three guests are uh just excelling at the next level. We talk about it all the time, Cliff Averal we had and Shaq Quarterman last year, Nolan Carroll. So uh these three are prime examples of how to get it done.

Did you watch the game? I watched the United States game, and I I don't watch soccer regularly. Um, my son, 11 years old, huge soccer fan, and he's like, hey, World Cup's on them. I'm like, I know. And we're my wife got a photo of me and him sitting there just staring at the TV, just jumping up and down all excitement. So it was a fun game to watch. Uh 4-1. Yeah. Win. They got to beat Australia. It's gonna be on Friday at 1 o'clock.

And the guy from Senegal pulled him down, and it took them about 20 minutes to figure out, and they got the penalty kick. I think I'm trying to remember who Morocco. Okay. And uh and they got the they got the call for that. But I mean, uh, the Senegal team was gonna walk off the field before they could execute it. So uh, you know, it's big time stuff, man. And and uh they should have it in Florida. Where?

Well, they do have it in Florida. Down in Miami, they're gonna be hosting games. Is he gonna have one? But everybody's like, oh, Jacksonville should have it. We we get Shot Khan to work a little faster on that stadium. That's what I'm saying. They gotta get a little Minecraft stuff going on and build that stadium a lot quicker.

So let's talk local here, Timber. We got three great guests here. Uh Keystone Heights, the Mecca of Collegiate Athletics at this point here. Uh, we got we got Connor Guy, baseball dude over at uh he's going to I won't I won't explain it yet, but we got a baseball guy here. We got Ty Mitzel, another baseball guy, and we got a softball phenom and Kylie Chanel here. The Chanel name you might know because uh she had a great sister who was on ESPN for Liberty University for a grand slam walk-off homer. Uh how many years ago, Kylie?

Had the same Chanel there kind of the funny thing about Savannah though is when I when uh that happened, I did a magazine uh uh photography thing for her business, and they hired me to go photograph her for this magazine, and she told me that Savannah was her kid, right? So she told me she was playing over at UNF, and I went over there and uh and I walked in and I said, Where is she? Who's she playing shortstop? Because I was at I think it was a state track meet over there at UNF. And I walked in and got the camera ready, and the UNF people were kind enough to let me get in position. And she goes for a diving stab at short shortstop. Take the photo, and I walk over to the mom in the like the VIP area. She goes, You done? I said, Oh, I got the photo. And uh, so so you know, Kylie's the same way. She uh I just saw a video of her making a double play ball from her stomach to her knee to the throw that we both agree should have been on the ESPN uh highlight reel because uh the filming of it was pretty good. But these guys all come back. Uh Connor say hi. Where are you what are you doing? Where are you at?

Hey, how are we doing? I'm a uh baseball player, graduated from Keyson in 2024, uh made my way through the JUCO ranks, and now I'm committed to play baseball at Virginia Tech.

Yeah, that's correct, and uh UCLA.

Um number one seed in the region. Is that what they were?

No, they were number two. Uh they had a tough pool, you know, playing UCLA.

Uh no, but UCLA was number one and Von Tech was number two. Yeah. So uh so we'll we'll talk about going to that level. Ty Mitzel here is a uh freshman. Go ahead.

Yes, sir. Ty Mitzel. I'm from Keystone Heights and uh graduated in 25. I would play at Everett Waters University. And what did you do this year?

You just got an all all what's the S-I-A-C? That's your conference. That's the conference, but I got uh it was all region. What was the S A I C southern what is it? It's the Southern Intercollegiate Intercollegiate Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Converse Conference. They just won that championship and didn't you close it out? Yes, sir, I did. Tell us about that. Boom, four or six to two.

Uh I don't remember the score, but it was a good game.

And then they went to the next level playoffs. Okay, so we'll come back to that. In the middle there, Kylie Chanel, uh, FAU star now at Clemson. Tell us about that journey.

Yeah, so I started off or I graduated uh.

How didn't you go to Liberty with your s with your cousin?

She was gone by then. Oh, I see. Well UNF. I think she went to UNF. I was looking at UNF, yes. But um it was a little bit weird. There had a coaching change. Oh. So like then I ended up going on a visit at FAU and I loved it. Boca's really, really beautiful.

No, no, you was a a highly ranked softball program at the time. Then they have like a Hall of Fame coach that retired.

Like at one point they were really, really good, but she ended up retiring and then a new coach came on. Right. But yeah, I played there for two years and we were we were pretty good. We won regular season twice um for our conference, and then I ended up going to Clemson after. Clemson?

This region we went to um Georgia's regional and we ended up losing there. Second game, first game? Uh it was a it was the champ like the championship in the region championship, yeah.

Yeah, so uh big time. So Connor, did you play football? Weren't you a football player? I did play football, yeah. And you played basketball? I did, yes. What was your what was your top ranked stat if you remember? I was talking about this with Tim and I found out. For basketball? Yeah.

Because Fleming Island Fleming Island had a had a guy, uh uh Jordan Miles back in the day that was the king of uh thing he had knee bruises on his on his chest. Ty, you uh played golf. Did you play did you play anything else but football?

Uh I played basketball and golf as well.

Yeah, so we got oh you did golf too? Yeah. And you played golf and what else? Uh I played basketball my senior year. Oh, I missed that. So so part of the uh did you play anything else besides basketball and swimming? Swimming. Oh, you went swimming? No, what did you I don't have a swim team at Houston, did I?

No, I played volleyball like one time my freshman year.

I mean I was like I got moved to the varsity at the end of the year, but I ended up like hurting my ankle and had ankle surgery.

So so all three of you are are uh the reason why I asked that is, you know, Nick Saban goes to the uh state uh high school wrestling and Alabama championship to go find some of his offensive linemen, you know, because he wants athletic guys. Uh part of it, well tell me about let's go back to Connor here. You were at Daytona State and St. John's. St.

I know you were a huge bat at uh at Keystone Heights, I remember that. And then uh so what was the biggest what were the biggest games there for you? I know you you you've always carried the big bat. What position did you play?

I was a center fielder.

Uh once I got to college, um it kind of catches up to you, man. Everybody's throwing hard, and uh you kind of look at me, and I'm not a power guy, so power guy?

Come on, man. I looked at your stats here. You were 368 at one point, St. John's. You were uh We don't have to talk about this year. Oh yeah, that was a 266. Yeah, but uh and at Keystone, you were you were in the 358, five homers, five, what is it, five twenty-eight is uh twenty twenty-three? Now now Keystone at the time when did you graduate, Ty?

So you were part of the twenty-three, yes? Yes, sir. A big part? Or you were a sophomore? I was a sophomore, but I was on the team. So so the reason why I asked that is that when you got to your level uh as a junior senior, did relief pitching was that your thing? Or I know in the smaller schools, even in all the schools, you know, the relief pitchers are they're just a pitcher in the rotation that they can throw on the mound if they need it, correct?

So so when they at the Edward Waters level, was that why they brought you in? Or did they just they wanted you in as a pitcher, but as a freshman, they were gonna uh test you at that level, end of the game kind of stuff?

Well, being from my arm slot, you can't really be a starter. But that's what I was my senior year. I was a starter and I had pretty good stats, but I arm slot.

What do you mean arm? Which arm slot?

Yeah, are you a submarine pitcher? Yes, sir.

Okay. That's well, that changes everything because you got the overhand. I didn't knew what that was. I didn't know what was once I saw the hand flip, I figured submarine, but you got the overhand, you got the three-quarter, you got the side, and then submarine pictures are one of the hardest ones to read. I was the underhand guy. Yes. That's called softball. But yeah, because reading it from the bottom, when you're watching that rotation, it changes because coming out, you're normally watching the fingers come out the top. Oh, and they're the best photos, too. They are, but they are cool. Ty Rogers is one of the best uh sidearm or submarine pitchers. He was with the Giants for a long time. Did you play baseball, Tim? I played really well on the bench, but I was on the team. Oh, yeah? I was a skinny five foot seven, 120-pound kid when I graduated.

I think I played one year in Little League, and I got hit with the ball so many times I went out for football and played football for the rest of my life. And uh now he rides a bike. Now I ride a bike. So, so um, so yours is exciting, Ty, because uh as a freshman, you got put into the fire a couple times. I think you have the school best of six saves for this year. I think I read that. So, how is how does that how does that fit into your mental preparation?

I just had to go in there and just when I came into the college, he was telling me I was just gonna be the reliever, and then by the end of the fall I earned the closer role. And so I knew that.

So how does what does that do to your mental preparation? What does that do? Because that's a to me, that's like That's a fun role. That's the badass role, right? Yeah, yeah. You get you get your own song when you come in in the sixth, seven. Did you have a walk-in song? Yes, sir. What was it? Miss Jackson. Miss Jackson? Outcast? Yes, sir. Nice. Did you have a walk-in song?

What are you what do you hear in the song that like get because you uh you were one of the best uh you weren't a slap hitter, but you would you were a good low ball hitter. You were a sacr you led the uh Clemson in sacrifice hits, and you always you always moved batters. And you had a couple of big big games, a couple of five hit games, correct?

The Valkyrie, Battle of the Valley comes out, dun dun dun, and dun dun dun, and they're coming in on the helicopters and they're gonna bomb the snot out of this beast. I said, that would be a cool song to walk in on. Or to put symphony music on, play some Beethoven, because then the other team would be like, what in the heck are these guys doing? So what was the best song you've ever heard? As a walk up. Somebody else. If you were shortstop, uh Kylie, what what what uh other player like walked out with a song of like, ooh, honestly, anything tap in?

You think? And then uh so what is what is what is the transition for you? That's big time stuff. That's big time stuff. How did how did that all come about? Because uh to me that's impressive. I congratulate you for that, because when I saw that, I went, holy moly, that's you know, coming from Keystone and and and Kylie and I talked about this yesterday is is you get focused on you guys are all playing multiple sports as high schoolers. But at what point did you realize that you know what? Baseball is gonna be my thing, you know, when you you went to your uh your junior colleges there in Daytona State, you you did well enough there that somebody noticed you. How did that come about? That's impressive.

Yeah, so I think baseball, they do a lot of uh junior college recruiting, I think more so than really any other sport. Um so in the fall going of your sophomore year, there's um big recruiting events. I went to three different cre recruiting events and you mean like showcases in the stadiums?

Yeah, like we saw your athletic ability and we uh we just played games.

Oh well. Yeah. Um and then we did uh there's like a JUCO All-Star game where you kind of just threw from your position and hit BP and then you'd stroll into the game and you're playing against other all-stars. And um during those three, I actually played really well. I had um, you know, I was playing some of the best ball of my life, and after the All-Star game, Virginia Tech uh What'd they say when they walk up to you?

They didn't walk me up, uh walk up to me. I'd I'd been cool, but they uh they text me, follow me on Twitter all the, you know, if you've been through the recruiting process, you know how tedious it Did any of them ever say, Hey, weren't you in the clay today?

Prominent in the clay today when you were uh at Keystone Heights here. Did anybody ever say that? I wonder if they Hey man, we saw your picture in the clay today. You must be pretty good. Yeah, right?

Now Ty's mom is a is a very good photographer too. And she she actually shared those photos that we we sent to our graphist girl. Nobody ever said that to you either? Man, I'm not that good. So when they come up to you and they say, Hey, how about us, how does that feel?

Oh man, it's there's there's some things that are unmatched in life, and that's that's one of them. Knowing that a like a school of that caliber wants you to come play for them.

Um Did they give you an idea of what they liked about you?

Oh yeah, that that's kind of what they highlight. They tell you, like, hey, we're we're recruiting you for for this, and we expect you to come in, and if you execute, you're gonna play for us and you're gonna have a good career here, you know. That's kind of what they they're all gonna tell you.

So the the thing, the reason why I ask you that is is you know, coming from Keystone. I mean, I really it's impressive to me because coming from Keystone Heights, where you got St. John's Country Day over here, and you got you got Clay High over there, Oakleaf just had a great season, Middleburg had a great season, and uh and I always tell you it's not you know why sometimes it's not just the school that's you guys. It's you guys you guys as players get out there and do your thing. I mean, uh you had two or three, you had actually a 500 and then a bunch of good seasons, correct? Yeah, I hit 300 my whole curve. We went twelve and twelve, sixty and nine, and then twenty and nine. Yeah, and went to the playoffs two times out of the three with uh with uh with the Keys. Now was was Roach the coach or was it?

I had Maddox my freshman year when we won the district. Yeah, um, and then I had Roach the other three years. Um but yeah, I think it's definitely tough coming from a small town. Uh it's easy to be overlooked.

Yeah, but that's why that's why it's impressive to me. All three of you is they're are excelling from the same little school over there. But I always ask like uh uh you know that some of the kids, is that a good chip on the shoulder? I think I asked you that is uh Kylie, is is uh is that a good chip on the shoulder knowing that you're going in as a pretty good underdog and uh you get out on the field and uh you know take some charges and uh how did you go from FAU to Clemson and when you got to Clemson, is there was there an now you haven't been to VATEC yet as a practice?

I've visited, but I haven't uh practiced with a team yet.

So so let me ask uh Kylie here, is it was it overwhelming walking in, or do you like, you know what? I got this stuff, man. I'm I'm ready.

It's definitely something that you could like think about as it being overwhelming because like for me I'm a lot smaller than uh a lot of power four players. So I think when we went into like the weight room, I was like, holy cow, like this is not where I excel, and they're like throwing weight like crazy. And I just have to like I always like would just tell myself like just wait till we practice, wait till we practice. Because we did lift, like conditioning, all this stuff. Conditioning I I did fine compared to like everybody else, but like it's something that you can be scared, but like when I got in the field, the like I was thinking to myself, this is where I thrive. Yes.

So coming coming in as the freshman there from Keystone, what's the uh thought process? Edward Waters has always had a pretty good uh baseball program, correct? In the in the history of it? Yes. And they just went into that division two because of that. You know, they they're getting bigger, programs getting bigger, getting more uh prestige out there, and now you're a part of it. As a freshman, what goes through your head? I mean, there were a lot of seniors, a lot of older guys around there, or just uh we were mainly uh underclassmen. We were big we were sophomore heavy. So what what happens next year? What happens over the summer now for you to to to kind of encore that?

Well, I'm just trying to get bigger. I came in as a a guy that was overlooked big time because I was only 135 pounds coming out of high school. So I had a I had to get it. I had to prove myself. Yeah. So things didn't go my way, and then I had a couple things fall off.

Did you get bigger going to Daytona and all that in in in St. John's? Or you're better you were always a pretty good guy there for football. Right. They I know they do a lot of weightlifting.

I was uh I was actually really underweight going into my senior year. I was probably about 150 going into my uh senior baseball season, and then um I started hearing around like I didn't really know much. Like yeah, you need to be about 180. And I was like, oh.

So we we bulked up a good 20 pounds and Virginia Techno I I asked Kylie about when she is uh with Shin with Chanel with Clemson, they give her a whole summer package of of uh conditioning, weight training, whatnot, and they kind of trust her to not stay on the boat all summer.

Uh, even when the Knicks they just won the championship, my dad had us at six game with Willis Reed and Walt Fraser and and uh Earl Monroe and all those guys back in the day. So when uh the Knicks won uh the NBA championship. So what do you guys know about the football here? Do you guys go get to watch? We'll we'll roll into our my my look at the football here. I was just over at Keystone as I was uh interviewing uh Kylie here and getting a photo of her. We actually duplicated a cool photo that Clemson sent to me uh in on the Keystone field. And Brooks Robinson was always a good one. I like Brooks Robinson when I was a kid. Obviously he's a Hall of Famer, so. So football, I was down at Keystone, so Cameron Porch out there. Guys were doing some uh weightlifting stuff, going in the gym, doing agility grill drills there. Then they did a cool thing that uh you can s uh see if uh Conor Reverend did this. They had a hundred-yard in the back practice field and they had ten-pound medicine balls. So they had to toss the ball ahead of them, sprint to it, pick it up, and keep tossing it all the way for the hundred yards, and then come back, do the same thing, and they had three man teams doing it. And uh I've never seen that. I thought it was cool. And then one kid, I don't know who he was, but he was a pretty muscular kid, he was throwing it over his head like a uh like a hammer throw. So he would chuck it, because some of the guys would just pick it up and and toss it and it would go like five yards. So if you think about it, for a hundred yards, 20 times, you're picking it up. Well, this guy was tossing it like 30 yards, so we so we had a different time. So that was pretty cool. Uh Jason Smith over at uh Ridgeview, I just went to the Rise and Grind Gym, and he had a bunch of kids, not just from Ridgeview, but from everybody. So I think that's gonna be our uh we're gonna get him on the radio show because he's he's stirring the pot for uh Clay County football. I think he's gonna surprise people. Keystone Clay High, uh Jeff Gherky over there's got uh uh a bunch of returners, Landon Martin, the Warrior uh quarterback, uh Jayshawn McLeod at linebacker, Cade Williamson over there is gonna do well. They just uh lost AJ Bivens, their gigantic uh offensive lineman, decided to go to bowls. Uh Fleming Island, I just saw them. Uh Tom McPherson's gonna have them rockin' and rolling. They've just got to solidify the offensive line. They got a couple of good guys in there, a couple of young guys in there. So uh they're gonna be strong. The thrasher kid, uh Caleb is gonna be the leader over there. Oakleaf. Oh my god, they're gonna be dangerous. Oakley has got two quarterbacks, one from Mandarin and one from Riverside. And these guys are slingers. I was at their practice. Now they got Michael Connor coming back, who was the all-state wide receiver last year. Sincere Murphy is another uh uh senior coming in. He was snagging things left and right in practice, and they got a freshman kid, Landon Nichols, that was uh is gonna be an impressive guy there. Big offensive line. They were all at camp, the offensive line. So it had a bunch of younger guys in there when I was there. Uh Orange Park, they got uh Davillon Williams is quarterback there taking over for Gabe Taylor. And uh Coach Wimberly's uh excited about that. They went uh a tie with um Sandalwood in their spring game. So he's trying to show you they got probably the two best one-two running backs in Austin Mills and Xavier Jones. So uh those two guys are gonna be workhorses there. Middleburg, uh Dalton Moss comes in as quarterback. Uh I think it's Ien Addison is Gino's little brother. Uh it's gonna be a good conscious name, but Braden Venturi is the name you're gonna hear. Uh running back Logan Tedrick is the senior center coming back, and they got a bunch of young guys there, but very big, and they've been hitting the weight room. So uh the football's gonna be good, Tim. When we get back to our football stuff, it's gonna be uh we're gonna have a stuffed room with all the stars we're gonna have. On the basketball flip side, the girls' basketball for Oakleaf, Fleming Island, St. John's Country Day, and Clay are all down at Gainesville for a big showcase tournament there, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, playing multiple games. Again, I mean American Heritage is there. Uh the villages are there, so our girls are gonna get tapped out there, see what's going on there. And then rodeo, we got the Gano brothers, uh uh Jack and Stephen, both from Flamin Island High School. Stephen actually is coming back for senior year of soccer, doing rodeo out in Hilliard. They were at uh they might be they might not like me for it, but they were at a line dancing thing in southern Florida, and some dude walked up to him and said, Come to our rodeo camp. They went to the rodeo camp, fell in love with it, and now uh Jack is the uh younger one coming. No, he's the older one, he's actually the older one coming in. They're gonna be competing in Hilliard on Saturday, and I got invited to go up there, watch him. He said, having like a big autograph session for him. Nice. So he's he he's going big time there. Uh we just had the run for the pies. Uh, Maya Chang, who was the uh Fleming Island cross-country ace back in the day, just went to the Nationals for Junior College for FSCJ uh this past year, set the state record and everything. She was in the elite 5K for the run for the pies at a torrential downpour and got sixth place against a lot of people that were I mean, there was an elite race there. You guys ever run a 5K?
