SPEAKER_04

All right, Clay County Sports fans, we are in week two of uh football warm-ups.

SPEAKER_03

What preview? Let's do our high school football preview.

SPEAKER_04

High school preview. We got well, we we're gonna have probably one of the top teams in the in the state, if not North Florida, if not Clay County. Uh I don't want to stay in in Clay County because everybody's looking pretty good, but we got uh we got Clay High coming in today.

SPEAKER_03

No, we do not have Clay High coming in today.

SPEAKER_04

But we're keeping that in there.

SPEAKER_03

I'm gonna let Chris Boy hear this. I'm definitely gonna let him know, but we got Oak Leaf High School coming in today. We even got an Oak Leaf hat. Wearing the Oak Leaf hat.

SPEAKER_04

Maybe it's an Alabama shirt that's throwing you off at that. It could be. Uh so we're we're gonna talk some football. It was Media Day uh Tuesday. This is Thursday. It was Media Day Tuesday, so we got a little intel from just about everybody in North Florida, which was pretty cool. Uh I was able to ask questions of some of our rivals, uh Mandarin and Nice and Pontavidra and whatnot, as well as our guys. Uh we'll have a little update on on some more wrestling. We had Hunter Hill last week with the boys, St. John's Country Days, Fior and Hill. But uh Oakley've had two girls, uh State Champ Kalyani Barrientos, and Zoe Good, a freshman 155 who were also at Vargo. I just found out, and also went to California for uh kind of a uh pre-collegiate uh opportunity where where Kalani type thing. Show some good stuff out there, man. So uh, you know, stuff it's it's all coming in. Volleyball is gonna begin uh across country. There's like I I think Floyman Island had 30 runners out the other day on the sidewalk, which was uh awesome to see.

SPEAKER_03

Well, and this is that perfect time of year where there's not much going on. So we're able to showcase we're uh we're getting ready for football. Uh this is how we started, Randy. You should have seen it yesterday, man. I was like in my zone. This is gonna be exciting. So we're gonna have Oak Leaf High School in. Uh Coach Chris Foy is gonna bring some of his big dogs in. We're gonna have a full room sitting inside here. I don't know who's bringing, but they're they're all big. So look uh we look forward to having Chris Foy. We'll look forward to having Oak Leaf players, and we look forward to having you guys back right after this. Maybe a phone call from Fargo as well. All right, here we go.

SPEAKER_04

All right, Clay County Sports fan. Oh my lord. We are we are in week two of uh preseason football with the Clay County Sports Report. It used to be the Clay County Football Report. We evolved, but we are going back to our roots today. This is where we started. I tell you what, this is uh, you know, it's one of these kind of things that uh, I mean you talk I they're already doing college hype videos on on TV, man. And and uh I haven't slept in like three days watching uh the Alabama stuff going, oh wait, well, we do have the Alabama shirt. Okay, so you don't need a parking plaque you can park in those spots. Okay. So uh we're gonna correct the record here. We do have Oak Leaf here, and uh Tim uh threw me under the bus right when Coach came in. Intro. So uh yesterday, or Tuesday actually, the uh Jags hosted the Baker Sports Media Day, uh kind of a look-see of uh all the schools in North Florida, all the way out to uh Brantford and uh all the way up to Georgia. I think Camden County, Brunswick were were there, and then uh all the way south down to about St. Augustine, Menendez, Matanzas, you know. So it was a good opportunity to kind of get a uh half an inch of intel. They're not giving away players or anything. You know, the coaches are are smart enough not to uh reveal too much, even though I try and like cover the questions with some gravy to try and get them. And in fact, I had one coach said, Are you kidding me, Lefko? You think I'm gonna answer that question? Like, come on, man. So we got we got Coach Foy here, Chris Foy from uh from Oakley Pie. Chris, who we got? We got three of your uh main cogs in in the uh repeat.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, sir. Um I got three of my defensive, well, one of them is just my my athlete. Uh play both sides of the ball. So we'll start off with Sin Sim Murphy, uh, athlete. Uh Kwasim Swain. I'm saying that right in the in Cali. I call him Cali. Cali? Yeah, I like to call him Cali.

SPEAKER_04

What's Sincere play? Now, I I've seen Sincere play over the summer. I actually saw him play last year as well. And uh dudes all over the place. You just said you had your defensive guys here, but I was at the uh clay high uh 7v7 invite there, and he was smoking some passes. Actually, the you had the interception in the end zone, correct? Yeah, against Fleming Island. Yeah, so yeah, yeah. So uh so this guy is yeah. Last year, I mean, yeah, it's just a weapon. Yeah, he is, absolutely. Next guy, Swain. What do you tell me about Swain?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, Swain's a he's a he's a contact guy now. He's a he's a he can cover the field. I will I will say this about Callie. Okay, I'll say this about Callie, why would we call him Callie? Look at him, Coach. He's the only one been smiling the whole time. Like a surfer dude, Callie? Coach, he coach, he's you know, he's coach, you know, I I would say this. I would say this. And then no offense to these other guys. Uh oh. He coach, he's probably he he's the smartest guy we got on defense. Oh, good. He knows he is he is he's a he's a he's a he's a true senior. I mean, he's been in this program for four years, he knows exactly what we want. Um what position? Free safety. Coach, all now all three of them play at least four positions on defense. DBs and up? Coach Bucks, Coach, I'll blitz all of them. Yeah, really. You see, I told you that. I told you I want to go give them. I don't want to give up a whole lot of stuff, but they they can play at the line of scrimmage, they can play in the box, they can play on the hash, and they can play they can play outside.

SPEAKER_04

Well, didn't didn't uh uh Michael Connor get some blitzes in last year when he was playing? Did he no?

SPEAKER_02

Don't don't don't say that. No, Michael didn't. Jordan Price? No, he didn't. He did a price. It was a corner, but Mike did not. Okay. Hold up. You know that I don't know if they gave Mike gave Mike the Cowboy. I don't remember that. What's a cowboy? None of none of your business.

SPEAKER_03

We're already running out the gate trying to get that play. I'm already trying to. The coach even started the shop. Wayne, doing it.

SPEAKER_04

You know, you're now when I hear the side like cowboy, cowboy. I'm like, oh, something's gonna happen.

SPEAKER_03

That's when you start videoing it so we can go back. We can do the Patriot style and figure out what they're doing out there.

SPEAKER_04

So Swain, Swain, let's get back to it. Uh yesterday before, Rashid Swain, there was a great swaying here prior to that, but you said there was no uh no family connection there, so uh the the name is uh has got to be a good as well.

SPEAKER_02

So you know what you have to do. You have to go ask that other guy. Uh-uh. If if he's related to the Callie, because I I take my I take my guy over that guy. Oh, okay. Yeah, I take my guy over that guy. And then uh the third guy over there. Oh, that's that what I said. He's all quiet over there. I think no buddy. No, this this is this is this is Cedric McNeil. He can uh you're talking about bringing some noise now. You know, he's a he's a he's a forced guy, um, but he can still play all the positions. I mean it's he's he is he's a great asset to us. We just picked him up from now.

SPEAKER_04

Were you a senior too, Cedric?

SPEAKER_02

Yes, he is.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, sir.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Yeah, it uh so what brings you to Oakley?

SPEAKER_07

I know uh you were at that other school, so uh Oh, I mean, it was just at Oakley, it was just I feel like it had better opportunities. I seen they was just getting more work, and I'm really trying to hop on that train that they trying to do.

SPEAKER_04

Like Do we do we do we do the uh the Don what was it? What Don Cornelius uh the soul. No, it's a whole diamond, man. I watched that when I was a kid.

SPEAKER_03

I've seen the reruns of it.

SPEAKER_04

That was uh that was that was preeminent back in there. So so over the summer, now now but he he plays both sides of the ball, too. Does he okay? Because he runs it too. Which of the which of the which who's your fastest guy? Is Michael? Uh sincere. It depends on what we're running.

SPEAKER_02

That's fair to say, right? That's that's fair to say. It depends on what we're running. Yeah. You know, you know, Mike's 40 is, you know, he's yeah, he's he's quick. Now he's fast. You know doubt about that. But sincere's a 400 guy, Cali's a 400 guy.

SPEAKER_04

You know, we we we well you're you've had uh Ronnie Townsend and guys like that that have that have been on the track on the track. That was different.

SPEAKER_02

That was that was different speed. That was that was a different kind. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That's that was uh now you also have uh uh Juba giving you a couple of younger guys, Landon Nichols, Miles Francis, is he coming in? No, no, no. Miles on he's he's strictly tracked. Cash? Is cash coming? Cash Johnson?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, cash, cash Johnson.

SPEAKER_04

So these guys, Timot, these days can't never have too much speed.

SPEAKER_02

That's one thing you have too much speed.

SPEAKER_04

4A, 4x100, these guys, it was 40. I think let me uh maybe 40.65, 40.76, and 40.79, the first three at the state championship, with uh uh Cash Johnson blowing out the last hundred to almost catch, I think it was Flanagan, uh but and Mandarin. Flanagan, and either Mandarin was first or Flanagan, one of those two, but Cash just blew down the last hundred and almost caught these guys. I'm like, whoa. And it was like the closest four by one hundred I've seen in a long time, uh, kind of stuff. So two of the four. Well, you got all this speed, coach. Who's throwing it to him?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, who I had a good guy, J J Jaden Delane. He's uh he's our quarterback. Uh he came over from Riverside. Uh he's uh he's also a senior. Okay. A dual threat guy. You know, he's he's got great size, great speed, and and he's got a lot of guys to throw the ball to. And so it's a it's a good problem to have with all this. Absolutely, absolutely. And and and another athlete, because you know, we we got uh, you know, shout out to my my guy Gator. Gator Gator Williams. Well, you know what?

SPEAKER_04

When when uh when he caught the two balls against me, yes, he uh missprop. This is like the second string quarterback was making fantastic catches against the state champion secondary division one.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Division one safety coach, he he is a quality now top-notch athlete.

SPEAKER_03

Now, with this coach, with the with the or with this coach, with this quarterback that you got, this athlete, I'm throwing air quotes. I mean, is he gonna line up at wideout? Is he gonna be in the backfield? What's he gonna be doing besides you talking about Gator? Yeah. Gator gonna be everywhere. Everywhere, he's gonna do everything, it don't matter. Okay, everywhere. He's trying to I'm trying real hard right now.

SPEAKER_04

He will be. Hey, coach. Well, the thing about it, and and Sincere, you can comment on this. When you got Michael Connor, you got you got Sincere, you got him, you I mean, you got athletes out the commode over here. And the funny thing was in your first game against Trinity, now at the at the clay thing.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, coach, coach, I've been trying to get Callie to play receiver for three years. For three years. He just likes to contact Callie? Well, Coach, good gosh, coach.

SPEAKER_04

That that is Yeah, but they think about it if you put him in with his number and all the coaches have never not seen it, they're gonna like, well, he's just some fourth string uh wide out there, and and all of a sudden he's slinging down. How fast you run to 40 there? Slide four or five. Slide four or five? So what do you why what do you what do you do do you just don't want to catch the ball or you just like deliver in the the blow?

SPEAKER_02

Coach, he he's more like a like a like a like a sinking missile. He'll be like a pulling guard on offense, coach. He's a contact coach. I he is he's I tell him, I say, dude, you you you you a crash dummy. You coach he will. He is he's he is a crash dummy.

SPEAKER_03

Coach, he will gotta get that Ronnie Lott thing, just whoever's moving heading, coach, he'll he'll you ain't careful, he'll hurt him.

SPEAKER_04

So how let me ask him, uh so how hard is it in in this day and age of refereeing, and the coach you can maybe come in on it, is it is it hard not to get the yellow flag? When you I mean, when I played, you could cross face a guy, you can I mean the whole idea was to knock the guy out, but nowadays answer that question. Or is it one of those questions like, is the coach gonna yell at you until you get off the field and then say, hey, nice.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's good. I mean, it's hard to get in flags, you know. You can't really do as much as you used to be able to do, so you gotta tone it down a little bit, but I'm still gonna come try to bring that pain as much as I can without trying to get the flag.

SPEAKER_04

Because I remember, and and you weren't here for Quase Clark and Nick Nick Roberts back in the day when they went to well.

SPEAKER_02

I took the L code. Did they bring it up? Did they bring that up? You know, you had the tendency to always bring that up.

SPEAKER_04

Did I say that out loud? So so they had those two heat-sinking missiles out there and uh back in the day, you know, when Chipelletti was there that.

SPEAKER_02

Nick, good player, man. He was really good player.

SPEAKER_04

University of South Florida, Kwame, I think went to uh uh FAMU and did some nice work up there. So in the um thought process of the defense, what's more fun, Sincere, for you? You're you're a multi- you guys are all multi-faceted guys here. How do how do you how do you mold your practice into that? And coach, how do you kind of fine-tune things when you got there's so much selection there? This is this is like having uh a Howitzer in your pocket and how many bullets you want to shoot. Sincere, what's the what's the thought process when you go to practice? What do you want to work on the most?

SPEAKER_06

Uh I really get 50-50, you know. Uh when you go indie or install, I get one side and flip to the other, but both are really fun. I can't really choose.

SPEAKER_04

What's your fun play? What play, what play do you come onto the line and you and you and you're doing this finger thing. The tell, the tell, the tell.

SPEAKER_02

For sincere, his favorite thing is wherever the ball is.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Wherever the ball is. Wherever the ball is. If it's if it's if it's a chance to get a pick, he wanna be there. Yeah. If it's a chance to catch the ball, he wants to be there. That's coach, that's all about. That's all about skill guys, coach. So when we're talking about the ball.

SPEAKER_04

So when we had Cliff Averell on here, I got stuff. I asked him one time, as a you know, all pro you know defensive end, having Marshawn Launch on the Marshawn Law Lynch on the other side, you know, that that little parameter, now you're you're playing your position, say he's over there uh on offense or whatnot. How do you read each other? Or do you do you read each other to make each other better? I know your practices are not there's not that many guys walking around doing nothing. And and uh, but you know, I always I always like to say to the practice guys, if if the guy holding the bag is daydreaming, it's not helping the team. And I know that's one of your things is uh be a great practice player for for your teammates. How do you guys read that when when do you gu I mean everybody likes trash talking, yelling, screaming? Do you guys keep that level of excitement on the practice field so that when it when it comes on the on the game field, it's it's been done before?

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, most definitely. We uh we we talk a lot, but you know it's all love at the end of the day, you know. We all trying to get each other better, but yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Coach is a score. We keep scoring prices. Yeah. Oh, for real? It's like, you know, defense gets a stop. Because we we we rep in sets of six. Okay. So so you know, you you you get a stop. Because coach, I mean, it's it's not easy to get a stop in high school tackle football. No. So you get a stop, that's a point. Uh offense gets a gets a what y'all call it, a tutty. Offense gets a tutty. That's worth three. Okay. Three stops to get the now. Now. We get a turnover. Oh, it's over. Oh, coach. That's that's two. So so a stop and a turnover is the same as a as a tutty.

SPEAKER_04

So what's the what's the uh uh consequence at the end of the six?

SPEAKER_03

Well, it's whole.

SPEAKER_04

We uh we we've already got everybody excited here. We haven't even got to anything, just talking uh talking about practice. So we got we got Cedric Quazon. Questine Questine County. Questine and Coach Four here. We'll be right back.

SPEAKER_03

Right after this.

SPEAKER_04

All right, Clay County football fans, sports fans, whatever you want to call us.

SPEAKER_03

Uh we're going football omen.

SPEAKER_04

Cedric, what have you seen uh being on an Oak Leaf practice field? What are you what is the did you make a good choice? Is it fun? Is it way above your pay grade? What do you what are you thinking? I mean, you're a great athlete, you've been a great athlete for four years of football. Uh are you molding in? I know the your quarterback uh uh Jaden is is slinging, man. He the dude is the dude is slinging. And the thing I like about him, he's very um methodical. He's he sits back there and he watches, and you know, when you got uh one, two, three, four guys out there you can pop it to even uh uh CJ on a on a swing pattern there, you know, you you you go and I would say what three out of four times make the right choice and and then then your guys are gone. That's uh thing. Cedric, are you finding that? What's your synchronicity with the new quarterback?

SPEAKER_07

Uh I mean a new QB, he really um he nice for real, I ain't gonna lie. When I had came over there, I ain't even I didn't know who he was for real. And then I like when I got to know him, I was like, he really, like he understands what he's doing. Like it's like he mature and he understands the game. But uh for me, I really feel I feel like Oakley was definitely a good move for me because like I love everything about it, uh like aggression that they like to bring and like the the brotherhood that they have over everything. Like they make sure like that's always like there's no green stuff to ever be happening, like.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, every every practice that I've been to, uh Coach Boy's got the music blowing up over there and and and there's non-stop movement. I mean, there there are not a lot of times where there's I mean, they'll take the water break and get over there, but they they are literally running to the water, getting the water, running back out to the to the field, doing what they gotta do, and and things are changing, you know. And I think, Coach, uh you might concur in this is is that's how games are. Yeah, absolutely in a dime, a thing will change. Somebody gets an interception or fumble, boom, you gotta be ready to go. Have you ever been in a quiet stadium?

SPEAKER_03

No, that's a uh I I've seen it on when COVID was happening.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, no, that was different.

SPEAKER_03

That was a that was a that was I didn't want to bring up the C word, I'm sorry, but I mean that's quiet stadiums.

SPEAKER_02

That was my first year as a head tackle football coach.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, heck no. So I mean you have nothing but to grow off that.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, it it's it it was it was different. I mean, it would take you an hour to get the kids in the practice facility to start. Yeah, just to take temperatures and all that kind of stuff. But I mean, we try to mimic as much as we can the game.

SPEAKER_03

And this is I mean, the way you're talking about practices sounds a lot like how Pete Carroll did it at USC and over at Seattle. I mean, he's part of noise. I mean, right in the players, he'd make them wear earbuds sometimes on loud music so it can divert away so you can use the hand signals, be able to communicate without using words.

SPEAKER_04

So let me ask you first game, boys. What's your first game? Which's your first team you're playing? Reigns. Reigns. What do you know about Reigns?

SPEAKER_06

Uh Reigns, oh, you everybody knows these state champions.

SPEAKER_04

What was your record last year?

SPEAKER_06

Their record? Uh-huh. Undefeated.

SPEAKER_04

How many games? All of them. All of them. 14. 16. 16.

SPEAKER_02

I like to win the kickoff classic too.

SPEAKER_04

So so going through the uh summer of practice, how do you coach not get past that or not let that or or is everything focused on that and then uh let the chips fall as they go from there?

SPEAKER_02

Every everything's focused, you know, we we got a range rep. You know, it's it's that it's that one rep in in practice that you know it's this is the range rep. Is it you in the weight room? You know, this is this is this is the the the range circuit. This is everything. It's it we we go on, you know, it is a when you when you play discount.

SPEAKER_04

Is that a track meet? Is that gonna be a track meet football game, coach? What are you guys expecting? Coach, defense. You think you think it's gonna be a trench, a trench warfare?

SPEAKER_03

All three players shaking their head up and down right now. Smiling ready. Yes, everybody's smiling ready for it.

SPEAKER_02

Defense. Defense. You know, it's we I mean, it's they're they're such a good opponent, man. They got a great program, great coaching, uh, and great culture. You know, that's that's everything. And they agreed to come to the to the dungeon, man. That's uh coach. We we got I mean, we got everything we asked for in because we that's that's the type of program we're we're shooting to be.

SPEAKER_04

Well that and and I actually that was my next question. I know that since I've known you, you've always uh professed that you wanted to be the team that everybody else wanted to be able to play at some point to uh to maximize their program because we played Oakley, if you know, and well of course let's keep it for real.

SPEAKER_02

If it's about the kids. If it's about the kids, okay you know the the the the better we become as a program, the harder it is to find games. Yeah. You know, it's it's it's so so I'm supposed to play Reigns and Bowls and and and and White. I'm supposed to Hawthorne and Madison. I'm supposed to play those teams because if it's about the kids, then why should those kids have to literally you know go out of town to play people and you know it's it's for example, I find it, you know, it's is as deep as the culture and the history behind Clay County football is. You know, I think we should be more involved with one another. I'm not gonna say any names now, but but I think we should be more involved with each other to to keep the fact that hey, we shouldn't have to go and find games. You know, good teams should want to play good teams. Well, you know, and you got a good year or good good.

SPEAKER_04

Well what the what is the key for you? What is the key for you guys over the last four years to to keep kind of up in that ante on Oakley football? You know, you guys you guys went to the region finals two years ago, you you went to the the regions last year, you know, try you you went to what Winter Garden uh two years ago at a spring game, played a uh an 8A school over there. So, you know, for for you guys here, the players here, what's the what's the uh optimum situation that you want? That's a if that's a understandable question. Callie smiles at everything. Yes, he does.

SPEAKER_00

We're trying to win state. I mean, that's what we're trying to get to. That's why we got this schedule we're trying to get there.

SPEAKER_04

So what do you think, and this this may this may get me what do you think happened at Nice last year? Now I know when you and I talked, you out physical. Outphysical, maybe keep it real. Out physical, yeah. I mean, and and I I even asked the Nice coach at the at the Baker uh the Baker thing about that. And I said, What was your pregame talk, man? Because whatever it was, they said you guys came out with fire coming at your butt, and and uh Oakleaf never caught up to it. And so so over this past over the summer now, how was that how was that affected how you guys approach your your practices? I mean, that's that's a big one.

SPEAKER_02

I started immediately after after the season. Oh, yeah. I mean it was it was like on the bus home? Absolutely. Yeah, yeah. It did. It was it was because it stung me.

SPEAKER_04

I'm covering it. I cover you guys. It stung me the the way things happened there.

SPEAKER_03

It was a sad show when we were recapping it.

SPEAKER_02

It was it was it was it was tough, it was tough to watch, and I mean it was tough to be in that field house. Uh every I I can remember, you know, I've I've always felt for for for read, for book. And every day, because we always eat lunch together. You know, it's coach, my office is about this size. About this size.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

We have like 30 people in there. Nice. We always eat we all eat lunch together. And and he would come in and coach, and he would every day for about almost like a month, coach, he would just literally cry because I get loose, I couldn't get loose. He just said, Coach, I I I just don't want to stop playing. I don't want to stop playing, coach. I just and and but I mean that's part of it. Yeah, that's part of it. I mean, one thing about the the good programs, I mean, and you it's supposed to be a level of respect everywhere. Right. That's that's what sportsmanship is. Yes. Um coach, he's got a great program. I mean, even from when when when we beat him the year before, nothing but respect for that pro. We just played each other in the FCA camp. Right, that's what the coach was saying. Nothing but respect for the programs.

SPEAKER_04

Right. And uh and that and that's how it works. You know, the same with Mandarin. When I asked Toby Bullock, is he gonna miss you guys? Because for the last couple years, you and him have been uh toe-to-toe district titles and uh playoff uh games. You know, you win yours on the in the last quarter there with field goal kind of tying it up, and uh and now the possibility of playing them in the uh second round of the playoffs is makes it even more exciting. So, you know, it's just uh so but around the county. Now who you got bowls on your schedule, who else? Tell me some of the big you got bowls. I saw Matt Toblin out there, he was he was talking, you know, he was talking in the same thing. We want perfection on the field, and I know you you profess to do that. How do you guys see yourself compared on that level? You know, knowing what what happened last year, are you moving the team now to be that team that that uh dominates in the first round of the playoffs?

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, most definitely. Like we said, like you started like started like like soon coming on that bus ride home. Like we remember that school, like you coming in every day trying to be better, not coming.

SPEAKER_04

What do you think what do you think in in your in your spine, what did Nice do?

SPEAKER_06

Uh capitalized on our uh mistakes every time. Any mistake we had, they they capitalized off of that.

SPEAKER_04

The special teams and everything. I mean that one breakaway the guy had uh uh was there. Question, what what play did you want back?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I feel like any time that they quarterback, he had like maybe ten rushes just in the middle, yeah, long runs, and that was just big for us. Like the fact we couldn't stop that, it just they got down there.

SPEAKER_02

We weren't getting up and third out.

SPEAKER_04

So so is that a is that a uh you know, and not to is that a is that a breakdown of eyes on somebody or is that uh just being out physical? Because that's to to him and I have talked that the physicality of that whole game was one of the hardest hitting games that uh in a long time between two local teams, and uh and they came out on top of it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, I think it was both. Like we were definitely out physical, I feel like on a perimeter, especially. Like they're uh they're big tight end, he's just blocking us every play, screen passes, first downs, like their quarterback running up the middle, and we just couldn't stop it at all.

SPEAKER_03

You guys are still holding on to that game. I can see it in your face. You went that's the only time I've seen you not smile. Who has somebody in your locker room? You don't have to say names, but does anybody have that game score on their locker right now to remember that? Or did you forget about it at the end of the day and you're ready to move on? Oh, it's not on locker, it's on the uh the board, the whiteboard. It's there. It's a reminder for y'all the motivation right there, something to this is where we're coming from. We're going somewhere better than last year's.

SPEAKER_02

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03

That's awesome. That's the motivation you need for this season as a team, not just individually, but as a team to grow even bigger and stronger together.

SPEAKER_04

And Cedric, how are you fitting into that? What do you what do you think you can add to that equation of of uh uh physicality and and just I mean just raw emotion at the level of the game that that was? Because you're all quiet guys. You know, the question is I get all fired up here.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they're ready to go, but these guys are like we're just gonna have to talk about feeling.

SPEAKER_04

I get the feeling we're bulling them. But this is an exciting game, man. You got a yellow, I'm all fired up and sweating and everything, too. CJ is I'm ready to get up as putting it.

SPEAKER_02

I was tempted to bring you boys. I thought it was more about the about the 707 tournament. You know, that's that you know, I'm gonna go. I'm trying to get the psyche.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's that that was coming. Is is uh, you know, in fact, we were talking with uh I was who was I talking about that the the one thing that is going to be the key is be because uh Chris 2 is is gone and Farid is gone, CJ, you know, is gonna be the next guy up. I don't know if you if there's a second or third guy out there. It's a stable. Yeah. It is stable. And plus with these uh with these track guys, you're gonna have guys that can once they get to that second level, put a fire under their butt and they'll be gone, you know, 10 9, 10, 10, 10, 10 flat hundreds kind of stuff. So uh that's gonna open it up with you guys.

SPEAKER_02

Uh coach, it's it's when you look at that running back's room.

SPEAKER_04

I mean it's so yeah, you got Mose you got CJ.

SPEAKER_02

He's the he's the he's the cannonball. Yeah, we got we got uh London Causewell, uh Jordan Battles.

SPEAKER_04

Oh battles, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And Cedric, yeah, and and and they all offer something different. So you're gonna keep them guessing. And Coach, it's but at the same time.

SPEAKER_04

Is the line keeping up with that? You got J.

SPEAKER_02

I know you got some big boys at the time.

SPEAKER_04

And I was hoping you weren't gonna bring three of them because then we wouldn't have been able to finish all.

SPEAKER_02

The thing is, our offensive line will be really athletic this year.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Because I I gotta give Coach Presley and Coach Steven Wright, um you know, we lost three of our starters last year.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And so, and our you know, defensive line has always been deep. And so instead of just trying to to patch in the backup offensive line, that's raised the that's raised the that's up to Annie with the with the competition. We took four of those defensive linemen and said, hey, look at the O line. But hey, you got you got a choice to make here. Either you could wait, because that th those first eight now, those first eight are some.

SPEAKER_04

But you got Mason Thomas. Who else? JPB.

SPEAKER_02

Zay Pierbow.

SPEAKER_04

Um, he's the quiet one. He's like uh what's his name? 904 or 304?

SPEAKER_03

He was a he was a he was a record machine, but nobody knew who he was.

unknown

Yes.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I I I'm starting to break this up. We gotta go on break right now.

SPEAKER_04

We're gonna come back for the final segment. Maybe we'll actually get to talking about schedules and stuff like that, Tim. But uh, we might get another hour. Can we get another hour here, CJ? Okay, CJ, CJ is uh uh assistant producer over there. So uh and then we'll and then uh CJ, what you playing? All right, we're gonna be back right after this. All right, uh Tim, we're uh we're in uh we're in the fourth quarter here, maybe, and uh and uh if Coach Foy and I could stop talking. Then these guys will go, but I wanted to to break off a little bit just to give a little uh exposure to two of our uh our great wrestling girls out of Oakleaf. Uh Kiani Barrientos, our our state champion this year from Oakleaf High. Her and Zoe Good, a 155er, both went out to uh the Fargo Nationals.

SPEAKER_03

The one we talked about last week.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we got Hunter Hill from St. John's with his guys, uh uh Bryce Fior and uh and Hunter, or Howard Hill, the Colt over there, and a couple guys from Beachside and Bulls. But uh Kayani was out there as well in the 136, and she had a 14-4 win over PA, a tech fall, lost to an Iowa, lost to Ohio, came back with an 11-0 win over Arkansas, pin actually, and then tech fall. So she finished at 3-2 out at the toughest team in the toughest tournament in the country. Zoe Good. I think she's only a free, she's gonna be a sophomore. She went 2-2 with an 8-0 win over Arizona, went 9-9 with South Carolina before pinning, and then lost to a Utah and an Idaho uh wrestler out there. Kiyani went to a kind of a pre-college meet. She's gonna be wrestling in college, went to California. Now that one was in Dakota. She went to uh California meet and uh finished 3-0, won the championship there. It was the uh Spartans Nationals, which was kind of incoming freshman wrestlers coming in there. So uh she did a nice job there. That was out Mount Olive, California. She beat a uh second in North Carolina high schooler uh with a pin, and then she won a girl a te for all 10-0, and then she pinned another girl from South Virginia University in in 41 seconds, and in the final she beat 10-2 to uh University of Cumberland. So she went in as an unattached and uh and showed her stuff a little bit there. At the Indianapolis Nationals, she went seven and two, and Fallon Dames, who was a freshman last year, third place for Middleburg, uh finished at 3-7, you know, at uh on June 17th was that one. So I just wanted to let the let our wrestling guys know that they were out there. We tried to get Kalani to uh give us a call at 6 30, but she was uh I think on her way to another tournament, so they keep him busy prior to going to college. She was a great champion, and uh uh we we we'll try and get her on here before she goes off to school. Now back to football. Seven out of seven. Clay Hyde did a nice thing. Coach Jeff Garris put together a uh Coach, can we give him some credit here?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah. Coach Jeff did a great job. Hey, how about that facility out there?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, 16 teams. They had uh one, two, three, four, five, about seven, eight fields going on it. We had we had uh Oak Leave, we had Clay, we had Fleming Island, Trinity Christian, uh Baldwin was out there, Fernando Fernandina Beach was out there. So I got there. It was Clay and Fleming in the in the first round, and then Clay was playing Trinity Christian. Uh you so got to see Landon Martin play uh Dalen Brown. Actually, one of the funnier uh plays was um uh Landon was trying to hit a pass over the middle to Dalen in the end zone and kind of a little high on it, and it went underneath of a garbage truck that was on the road trying to leave the Clay Regional Park. So uh Dalen jumps over the fence and skinny's under the bus and gets it, and thank God the driver stopped and uh so he got the ball back there. But then in the one of the more uh well at first Oakland got up there against Fleming and uh and both quarterbacks were slinging. You know, I mean uh uh Jay is it Jay Din or Jay Lin? Jay Din. Jay Din. Jay Din was slinging to to Michael and uh twice missed him by fingertips on uh on sideline bombs, you know. So once, you know, I guess with a with the new quarterback, that kind of that kind of synchronicity, what do you call it? Timing? That timing that Is that coming? Is that coming with you guys? This guy, this guy's getting tight with uh finding you guys and hitting the windows.

SPEAKER_02

All you gotta do is throw it. And that coach, that that guy, this guy got the strongest hands.

SPEAKER_04

Well, he's got the longest legs and all that kind of stuff.

SPEAKER_02

No, coach, I mean, but it's yeah, yeah. So we we do what we call a grip, we grip test and and it's and it's like a no, it's a talking about sincere. Yes, it's a third, it's a 30-pound dump. Oh, oh, and you got one in each hand and you sit in front of a cop. You're sitting down.

SPEAKER_04

You know that, Tim? Tim's our fitness guru. Oh, it's it's been two shows since you're gonna go. He's got a boot on now because he kicked the dog and the dog uh broke his foot.

SPEAKER_03

I did that. Right. You know I didn't kick the dog.

SPEAKER_02

I kicked the dog and the dog fought back. So when when if Jay didn't miss, he knows where to, you know, we gotta get we gotta get the ball moving. We gotta get first down, because that guy made, Coach, it was about eight to ten catches that that he was not open. He just took the ball.

SPEAKER_04

And he had that he had that nice snag in the end zone too uh on the way out there. So in that in that uh uh r vernacular with Michael, is it is Michael getting because I know against Trinity, Michael and the Trinity guys were were talking back and forth to each other where the referees are actually getting in the middle of it, you know, and and uh and because I think Trinity was doubling up on Michael. They were just checking how the summer's going. I mean, you really can't do that.

SPEAKER_02

And uh, you know, so it was it was the other little one now, that that that that that TJ James now TJ was uh And he weighs what about buck forty? Coach, he's heavier than a football. That's right, he's heavier than a football. And that's coach.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'll tell you, he's like a he's like a gronk, he's like a gronk, he's a big guy.

SPEAKER_02

He's he's a pretty pretty big guy. He's yeah, he's put together now. We like to call him Debo. Yeah, we call him Debo. Uh Debo Samuel, yeah, yeah. Coach, he's put together, coaching.

SPEAKER_03

Debo, I mean, I don't know why we have 49ers family in our house, so we don't Debo left us, so we don't bring okay and he's kind of that's the word I feel when Randy brings up the the 2014 season.

SPEAKER_02

I'm with you.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, that's how I feel when he brings I'm with you, I get it.

SPEAKER_04

It's so in that in that knowing that you guys, I mean, the the first game uh Trinity won, and then you guys came and smoked them in the uh in the championship 31-18, uh was that was that a true picture for you, coach, that you know where we're when you can flex the muscle here.

SPEAKER_02

But coach, I tell you what. Now remember, I'm a hiker. I'm a trench guy.

SPEAKER_04

It's a center. He was a center. Oh yeah. Yeah, so I'm a trench guy. He's one of the big okay.

SPEAKER_02

So so the the whole 707 thing.

SPEAKER_04

Well, let me ask them, what was going into the first Trinity game, right? And then uh, and they were talking trash, you guys were talking trash. They had a they had actually their uh their coach pulled the first quarterback and put the second guy in because he was missing guys, and then they then they started hitting guys and got it got down the field and whatnot. But in your huddles, you know, what was going on in there about we're playing Trinity Christian? Because that's one of those pinnacle programs, you know, that that uh you you had to if you want to stamp your season saying we are one of those kind of teams, you missed on the first one. So what was going on between that and the second one?

SPEAKER_06

Uh it was really like we knew we had the game, we missed up. We knew we were supposed to beat them out a lot more, so we proved that the same game. Because that was really on us. We lost that game ourselves. They were better than us.

SPEAKER_04

But you don't get a second chance in the region players. Oh no, no. So that's uh that's that's a lesson we take out. Yeah, that's a good, yeah. Cedric, were you out at that one? Were you there yet?

unknown

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_07

Were you out there? Uh yeah, yes, sir. And uh, you know, I I was at Trinity for my freshman year, so yeah, for me, you know, being out there with them boys and did they remember you? Oh yeah. Were they trashing you?

SPEAKER_02

We have a saying now. We gonna we gonna meet we gonna meet the energy now.

SPEAKER_04

I tell you what, that's that's that's what was out there, man, because I was laughing at that and actually the their I think offensive coach is a little guy that was saying, he was laughing at me laughing when Michael and their their guys were tossing it up and the rest were getting away, and I kept saying, just a little play, man. Come on. Uh, this is just play that these days. This is playground ball here, man. Nobody's gonna get hurt. You guys just talking, getting ready for the season. You got two, you know, uh major programs going at it right now.

SPEAKER_03

Now, with these seven on sevens, coach, are you showing everything right there or are you just getting the boys' condition?

SPEAKER_02

No, coach, it is, it is. Now, I'm gonna be honest with you. You know, I hope so. I've never been I have never been a big fan of it until, you know. Coach, you know what brings me joy? Them being together?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, oh yeah, that's that's that is that he was working the wagon with the water the whole time. He wasn't even coaching, who is the guy, your your DB guy was coaching it.

SPEAKER_03

Uh Coach McGee. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I mean that's that gives them experience as well. Yes. I mean, you don't need to do it for seven on seven. You you're gonna do it for 11 on 11. Coach, it is.

SPEAKER_04

Did you see the photo of Michael going like this and you stand there pulling the wagon next to it? I'll just send it to you.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, hey, he's a lot of work being that water board then with this one. Like 100, it's 100 like three degrees. It was but coach, it's it I love to see them. That is, first of all, rising to the challenge. All these kids know each other. Right. They they all know each other. And so they're having so much fun literally being together. Right. And and even if they are playing, I mean, competing, um, that's that's that's a good thing. Yeah. That's a good thing. And so, you know, this is this is one of the times, coach. I really, really, and I don't even when my boy was playing, I didn't really rock with the skilled guys. But I really rock with the skilled guys this year, coach. I I have been at I they they set their own schedule up.

SPEAKER_04

And he, I told you, and he's talking about his son, Chris before two, who was the the uh the alpha dog on the sidelines in the huddle and whatnot. And now he's kind of uh an assistant coach until he goes off the code. What is he called? FAU? FIU. FIU. You know, so so uh it was it's always cool to be at the practices because he's the one, he's the one that remembers what got them into the into the level of the program. He's one of the guys that set the standard.

SPEAKER_02

If you ask him, the most, and it's what he preaches to to our program all the time. The most important key element was friendship. They were all such good friends. Yeah, they they played for each other.

SPEAKER_03

Now, you guys are out there at practice. I mean, what two days going on right now? Oh, not for that. No, no, okay, hold on, hold on. You guys got practice going on every day, and then you got seven on sevens. Which one do you prefer? Because I mean you're out there battling together, but Coach says it doesn't matter which one you're on. You guys have fun. Which one do you prefer?

SPEAKER_04

Well, you always like to be another helmet. Yes. Another jersey. You always like to go up against especially when you're going up against the the best, you know, one of the premier teams up in this area there, you know, in uh throwing down with them because I mean there were some great defensive plays on both sides, you know, some great catches on both sides.

SPEAKER_02

Sound out to Rodney. Rodney Rodney played, didn't he? Yeah, Ronnie Ferguson. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

And it was it was it was uh I was I was I was taking photos of the left.

SPEAKER_02

He's gonna be a good player for us now. He's gonna be a good player.

SPEAKER_03

Is seven on seven just kind of like that tease a little bit? You're like you're itching for 11 on 11s now? Or we had just left FCA camp. FCA camp.

SPEAKER_04

Which is a pair of three days.

SPEAKER_02

Three days, you know, it is it is almost it's it's close to full contact. You can get all playoff teams, you know, you you you you're there with niece and and and and it's 10 degrees hotter in Daytona B.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, yeah, Bill's character.

SPEAKER_02

Was that Delanding? Deland, yeah. And coach, we've done that. I've been in a twin bed for you know, hey, the first night is fine because you're so tired. Yeah, yeah. Coach, then all of a sudden that's second night. Yeah, you feel like a twin bed. And you wake up, you play. You you you eat breakfast, you play. And you you get some lunch, then you play. And then coach, so I'm thinking, hey, we come back, I give everybody the next two days off. I said, hey, if I see you at this, at this if you're a coach, I see you on campus, I'm gonna fight you. Okay? If you're a player and you you you're up here on the field in the weight room trying to put in some work, I'm gonna give you detention. Nobody comes around and it comes out of these guys' mouth. Hey coach, you know we got 707 Friday. So you just I said, Y'all still want to do that? You already paid for it, coach. We gotta do it.

SPEAKER_03

I know.

SPEAKER_02

That's the effort they gave, coach. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

I mean, you guys paid for it already with practice. Yes. So why not show what you can do right now? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

All right, so two minutes later. This is a two minute work. Who's your who's your preseason game, coach? Uh we got D Land and we got Columbia.

unknown
