We sit down with Laura Hoorweg—international intuitive coach, spiritual counselor, and psychic medium—to map how awe becomes practice, and how practice becomes healing that lasts.

Laura shares how a three-decade career in high-pressure media unraveled within months of her partner’s passing, sending her on a healing circuit through Brazil, the Peruvian jungle, and into therapeutic yoga.

We get practical about intuition and mediumship. Along the way, we talk quantum-curious science, the integration of divine feminine and masculine, and the simple gateways anyone can use.

If you’re craving grounded spirituality, tools that actually help, and a compassionate push back toward your own inner knowing, this conversation offers a clear path. Subscribe, share with someone who needs it, and leave a review to help more listeners find the show.

Thank you so much,

Defining Grit Through Vulnerability

SPEAKER_00

Vanessa.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I love I loved your background. I love that bio. It really spoke to me on a lot of levels. It perfectly aligns with the spiritual path that I've been exploring for myself. So I'm very excited to talk to you today about things, including tapping in peered up. Oh that was genuine. That was like really everything about what I read there. I just thought, yes, I am so grateful you reached out to me. I'm really excited to see where our conversation goes. Hopefully, we can talk about tapping into intuition, aligning with purpose, what it means to build resilience and thrive, especially in today's world climate. Um, also want to talk about you in particular and how your own story plays into the guidance that you offer clients. And before we start with kind of the standard questions and answers for new guests, I always ask the first-time guests on the show, what does gritty mean to you?

SPEAKER_00

I think gritty means being down in the mud and being able to just stand up and keep going. Yeah, I had never done that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you have. I mean, I haven't even talked to you yet in depth, but just from reading your history on your website and on your bio, you've been through it and you are resilient. And yeah, that makes gritty. And I asked this question because the community that I wanted to build by starting this podcast is a community for the gritty. And often people think to be gritty means to be closed off, but I don't think that's true.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, and you know what? I've found over the decades that I always thought my strength and my resilience came from my physicality and from my mental acuity. And I discovered along the way that actually our true strength comes from our vulnerability. So if you're not allowing yourself to touch your vulnerability, you really haven't connected to your true strength yet.

SPEAKER_01

Wow. I just got goosebumps. That is so true. Listeners, I hope you heard that. Let's talk about that's amazing. I will. Thank you. I would love to talk about your journey to present day. You have you've been through some things, and

The Out‑of‑Body Awakening at 15

SPEAKER_01

we can begin going back. You mentioned that you really started on the path to present day around age 11. Sounds like that was a key moment or pivotal moment.

SPEAKER_00

I was gonna say how far do you want to go back?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. 11's pretty young. I mean, we could we could go there. We could start at 11. Saying that you thought out gods and angels, not in church pews, but in whispers, visions, and cliffside awakenings. And then in particular, you said there was a profound out-of-body experience at 15 that cracked you wide open. And I think that's a really good place to start. What happened?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, well, I was the reason I was out in the wilderness to begin with is because that's actually where I found my true connection to spirit, my connection to God, the universe, whatever source, whatever word you want to use. So I was out in the wilderness and I was actually at a canoe camp, but we were also learning how to rock climb and how to repel. So I was up on a uh oh really high cliff, probably 200 feet or more, and we were uh repelling, uh, but we were taking a break, and we were just looking out, and it's in this huge provincial/slash state park for my American friends, and up in northern Ontario, and looking out of from this cliff, there was nothing but wilderness. There's trees and rock and lakes and rivers, and it was just like awesomely beautiful, which I think is what this beauty of nature is what catalyzed this whole experience. And what happened? I was just sitting standing there, uh looking out at this, and all of a sudden I just felt like this. The only way I can describe it is like a whoosh. And I actually everything that's truly me, my energy, my spirit, my soul, what how whatever you want to call it, just came right out of my body. And all of a sudden, I found myself uh up in the sky, looking down at my compadres sitting around on top of this cliff. And I'm up there going, like, wow, what is going on? Right. At 15. At 15. Oh my god. Yeah. And I'm like, wow, what's going on here? But it was amazing because I there was no fear, there was none of that. It was just more a state of awe and wonder. And I felt hugely expanded. I still felt like me, but I felt like I was also part of everything else. And just as I was thinking, wow, you know, it doesn't get better than this. It was like as soon as I thought that it was like whoosh again. And all of a sudden, I found myself outside of the earth, looking down in the earth. And I'm like, whoa, this is really cosmic. And it was an incredible experience. I'm gonna date myself a little here because when I was really young, that's when they had the first moon landings, and that's when all the space stuff was on TV. And uh, I remember hearing one of the astronauts talk about the incredible experience of seeing the earth because that was the first time that any of us saw the earth from uh outside of the earth, and I just went, wow, I I get that now. Like I totally get that experience, yeah. And again, I was just like felt totally safe, totally held. Uh I wasn't afraid at all. And all of a sudden, again, just as I thought, wow, this can't get any better. This is a theme of my life, can't get any better, like whooshed again, and all of a sudden I find myself literally out in the universe because I'm seeing all these different spiral galaxies. But I had all this knowledge too. Like I looked over there and I went, Oh, yeah, that's the Milky Way and Earth right about there. And I'm looking at all these other galaxies and thinking, wow, this is fantastic. And I literally said to myself, What could possibly be after this? Because now I was expecting something at this point. So I'm like, wow, and and I was just getting ready to get into that fact of wow, there's going to be something even better than this next. And then all of a sudden, seriously, it was like Star Trek. It was like this gigantic hand grabbed my energy and pulled me back into my body. Right. And the only way I can describe the feeling is like I used this analogy, it was like taking a basketball and stuffing it into a Coke bottle. Okay, that's what it felt like because my energy was so expanded that it was a really tight fit to get it back into my little puny body, and actually took me about three or four days to actually feel totally back into my body. Um, but then, you know, and this also felt like hours, you know, at least an hour, hour and a half. And it I realized once I got back that it was like seconds, literally seconds, because what had actually happened in the 3D is one of the instructors that was working with us, uh, teaching us climbing and repelling, he got a little bit nervous that I was too close to the edge of the cliff. And he had literally grabbed the back of my pants and yanked me back. And that's when I came flying back into my body. So it was a pretty wild experience.

SPEAKER_01

Did you talk to anybody about this? Or were you like, no, I cannot tell anybody? I just you have to remember I'm 15. Yeah, like I have three kids. My my middle child is 15 now, a girl. Yeah. No, she would never tell anything.

SPEAKER_00

I actually somebody asked me the first, you know, I can't remember the first time. I've talked about it a lot lately because everybody like loves this. You want to hear it. But honestly, I can't remember the first time that I actually spoke to somebody out loud about that, but I would bet probably it wasn't until I was in at least my late 30s, maybe even into my 40s, before I actually told somebody that story. Now, I have spent a lot of time hoping that I could recreate that in some way, and I can tell you over the decades, I've come sort of through different experiences, but um nothing nothing like that has ever happened to me again. I've had some pretty wild experiences on plant medicines and things like that, but that was totally unaided, that was totally spontaneous. It was just brought on by what I was able to figure out just this feeling of awe and the beauty of nature and feeling so free. Yeah. Um, but yeah, it was a it was an interesting experience.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna segue a little from the next question I have for you because this is fascinating to me. Do you think it was the collective? If that is something that you believe in, like a collective energy force that you were pulled out of your body and

Science Meets Spirit: Books, Physics, Quantum

SPEAKER_01

aligned with. Did you have a yeah, a knowledge and understanding that it exceeded what you experienced in the physical body when you came to the city?

SPEAKER_00

Not at the time, but now that you mentioned it, I think it was probably a timed event, probably by what I get, source, my guides and my angels. I call them my teen. Yeah, um, it probably was because it set the foundation. I'm not saying it changed my life from there on because people, you know, the spiritual journey is not a straight line. Spiritual journey goes like this, okay. And that was definitely a peak experience at that age, but I never really got into spirituality very much at all in my teens, later teens, or even twenties. My twenties were whoo party land. Um, probably I didn't really even get back into spirituality. I would say probably mid to latter 30s is when I started really getting back into diving kind of headfirst into spirituality. It's good that you brought that up because I've never thought about it that way. But I actually think that was a way that my guide set the stage for things that happened later in my life because it totally changed the way I thought about life, death. It totally uh changed the way that I uh because obviously I was out of my body, but I wasn't dead. This isn't like an NDE, and I've had some, I would say quasi NDE experiences because I've nearly died so many times, but not the full experience, but part partial experiences. Um, and it was nothing like that. It had some similarities, but it was it's nothing like um crossing over to the other side. It's more, I would say it's more closely related to like astral traveling. Yes, that's what I would say. It would be more like is like astral traveling.

SPEAKER_01

Interesting. Let's jump ahead to sound like 30s, maybe late late 30s. Is that when spirituality kind of came forefront in your life? And what how what happened? Was there a catalyst?

SPEAKER_00

Was there one event, or was it just the slow progression of I think it was more of a progression because I started well, see, I was very scientific too. Even in school, I was very much into science and I started doing a lot of reading. Oh my god, my my uh spiritual library. Actually, I had to deplete, I had to cull it because it was ridiculously large and I didn't have the space anymore to put it.

SPEAKER_01

That's a woman after my own heart.

SPEAKER_00

I love every research that I had because I read them all. You know, I I don't know why I was keeping all this stuff because I'd read them all and I went, ah, what am I doing? So I really got into um reading a lot of spiritual books. One of the ones that really got me, because like I said, I had a real science bent was um a book by uh it's an old book. It's by um Gary Zukov, uh Seed of the Soul. And he was a Gary Zukov is well, not was. I think he's still kicking around. He might be pretty up there now, but uh he was a physicist, you know. He was a physicist, and this is a very incredibly spiritual book about the soul, uh, written by a um physicist. Now, today that's not so so strange because all the physicists now, because of quantum physics and that, they've all gotten into spirituality. Actually, they're probably some of the most spiritual people on the planet because now they'd realize that they're starting to prove all of these spiritual tenets that you know were so poo-pooed for so long, even the multidimensionality thing, they've proven it up to 13 dimensions, but I I can tell you there's way more than that. But they've actually got proof up to I think it's the latest was about 13. So yeah, so it was all all those kinds of weird things. So it was it was it was an education thing, and then I started getting into groups and and um, you know, and then into my early 40s, I used to there used to be a big um spiritual, I think it was called the spiritual community online. I actually met my partner through that uh before dating. It was online, but it wasn't online dating. I actually met him through um uh the spiritual community website and uh because they there used to be live talks and interactions and all kinds of stuff for people all over the world, uh, mainly the United States and Canada, but there was people literally from all over the world, so that kept going.

SPEAKER_01

Where along this path did you realize that you had specific gifts and what they were, and then made that decision that you were gonna take that outside of your own practice and help others.

Leaving Corporate, Loss, and the Call

SPEAKER_00

Okay, wow. Yes, yeah, I know. You realize the dichotomy of my life, okay? Um I for 30 years was in the corporate world. I was in advertising and marketing, I worked in the newspaper slash magazine, slash TV industry. And uh I was that one person at work, and then I was another person in my private life. So I did for a while, probably in my 40s, uh, is when it started late 30s, early 40s, is what I started. I would do uh readings for people uh on the side. Like I said, I was one person, another person. And I did that for quite a while, but then around 52, my whole life infloded and exploded. I ended up leaving my uh leaving my 30-year career. Um and shortly after that, my partner ended up passing away suddenly, and there was just like one thing after another, and it sent me um spinning into a massive healing journey. So, and that's what really ignited and through that, well, it was intensely for about a year and a half, two years, and then that's what led me into um that was in uh what was that 2014? Yes, because I actually started my full-time practice in 2015. Okay, so um so 10 years this year.

SPEAKER_01

That's amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, actually, it's all it was at the beginning of the year, so it's almost 11 years. It'll be 11 years in the beginning of next year. So and we're almost there, believe it or not. I know. Okay, we'll say 10 and a half, we'll split the difference.

SPEAKER_01

We'll say 10 and a half, so it's been about huge shift for you. Huge, huge, and it sounds like all of these two big, very life-changing events, both walking away from your established career and losing your partner, happened within about 18 months of each other or within an 18-month time span.

SPEAKER_00

More like six months, six or seven months. Oh my gosh. Okay, so even closer, yeah, even closer.

SPEAKER_01

And options to spiral, sink, swim, and it sounds like you dove in to the spirituality journey.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I could do the spiritual recovery healing journey, that particular one. Uh, and I'll give you the reader's digest version. Yeah, Cliff's notes on that one. The cliff notes on that one. Okay, so I went I went to Brazil to John God, and I don't know if you're familiar, he's a trans channel healer. The name is familiar, but I haven't done that. He got really famous when Oprah Oprah went Oprah and interviewed him. Got it. That's when he got really famous, but he was very famous in Brazil. But once he was on Oprah, he was famous everywhere. Oprah doesn't. Anyway, I was supposed to go. I went there with a group and I was only supposed to stay for two weeks. And I ended up staying there for another four weeks. So I actually was in Brazil for about six weeks. So I stayed for another four weeks on my own because I had the lay of the land and I knew how everything worked and everything like that. So I did that, and then I came home. And well, and while I was there, I was guided into my next step. I love the way Spirit works. I ended up, I was guided into the ayahuasca experience and by some of the people that I'd met there. And so I was only home for I don't know, probably a month or a little over a month or so. And then I ended up booking and uh running off, not running, but flying off to uh to Peru to up in the j in the jungle to do uh before ayahuasca

Brazil, Ayahuasca, Yoga, and Healing

SPEAKER_00

became a thing, okay. Um now it's kind of very different, and I caution people who want to get involved because there's a lot of because anything that shows money potential can becomes corrupted. So I'll just uh caution people on that one. But anyway, so then I was off to to uh uh Peru in the jungle, uh up in a place that you couldn't the only way you could get in, you had to fly in or you had to go by boat up the Amazon. That was there was no roads to this place in uh up in the jungle. So I was there for uh three-week intensive, and um that was like that was mind-blowing. And I had some really unbelievable kind of uh 60, 70 experiences there. And then I came back again and I was trying to figure out what I was supposed to be doing with my life, and I had before I had left, right after, actually, not right after, just before Tim passed away, um, I had gotten seriously into yoga. So I had come back and I had decided that maybe what I'm supposed to be doing is being a yoga teacher. So I thought, okay, if I'm gonna make this my career, I have to get my button gear and I have to learn, take my training and everything. So off I go to Costa Rica for a month to do my uh intensive 30-day teacher training. So that was an experience in and itself, and then I came back and I realized that the whole I the whole purpose of this um journey through uh yoga teacher training was actually a healing journey for me, and it wasn't I was never really meant to quote unquote teach yoga, and still this day I I have my own practice and all that, but I was never, I don't know, maybe at some point I'll teach yoga, but it's certainly not right now. And that's when I was basically got, and then I realized that, and then I'm like, what am I doing? I whenever you ask a question, honestly and sincerely, you get an answer. And that's when I was really I I always use the words called. I felt very called to do this work, and uh originally I think in my mind I thought I need to do something and I need to make some money, and I and I want to really help people because when I was in advertising, this is one of the reasons I left. Uh, there's a lot of reasons, but this is one of the reasons is I really got tired of being part of selling people things that they don't really need. Okay, yeah. Being in that whole corporate advertising world, I just I just couldn't do it anymore. And uh so that's when I decided, and because of everything I'd been through personally, I decided that I really wanted to help people uh live their best lives, and I wanted to help people heal. So that's how I started my practice.

SPEAKER_01

Is that Spirit Speaks to Me?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the name of the practice that you started, and I will the name of my business, it's the name of my website, it's the name of my Facebook group. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And what I read from there was that you work with conscious, intuitive, high-functioning individuals who secretly feel stuck, misaligned, or feel like they've outgrown the life they're in. Those the kind of clients that you found have come calling.

SPEAKER_00

And I have found everything from new seekers, you know, I call them newbies or virgins, yeah, and playfully. Yeah, and everything to people who have been on their spiritual journey for decades. So anything and everything in between. And I I always like to say this at least once is yes, I I work with a lot of women, but that's because women tend to be more in touch with their own growth. Okay. Yeah, but thankfully, I am seeing more and more men become really engrossed in their own journey and coming to spirituality in their own ways. So I do have men clients, some of them come to me directly, but I will be honest, most of them come to me through a second party or third party, i.e., uh a wife, a girlfriend, a mother, a woman in their life that's a woman in their life to go talk to this woman. Yeah, yeah, exactly. That's usually the way it happens, you know. That's great. Um, but that's fine with me. And I, you know, I I like dealing with men. Um I'm finding now that I'm moving more and more into no, they just stop me. See, this is what helps when you have a group because when something's gonna come out of your mouth, it isn't quite correct. They stop me. Your spirit guy is your team. Yeah, like don't they say don't say that? Yeah, they don't say it that way. That's not what's me. Um, so what I mean is I don't really care where somebody is in their journey, but the people that I really want to deal with are the people that have a willingness and a calling to move forward. Okay. I'm kind of getting to, I don't get many of these people these days, but I still am getting some. I really don't have time anymore for people who just want to be somebody else to fix them. Okay. That don't realize that spirit or myself, we don't fix people, we help people fix themselves, and there's a very big difference between those two things. Yeah, so I really like to work with people who are on that journey and realize that they have to do the work, that nobody can, you know, it's kind of like women in that old prince charming hero kind of story. Okay, nobody's gonna come and save you. No, uh, hate to tell you. Okay, you gotta save yourself, okay. Other people can help you, but you're the one that's gonna have to do the work, and that applies to every facet of life.

SPEAKER_01

I believe that to be true, uh and that the answers are inside of the

Who She Serves and How Change Happens

SPEAKER_01

individual, absolutely, and it's a rediscovering of what's inside of you, the individual, and their truth and their path, and that guides like yourself help people learn how to listen to themselves.

SPEAKER_00

So better. Exactly. My guides say that to me all the time, and to my clients, they're not here to make us dependent on them, they are here to help us become dependent on ourselves for the answers. So they're here more for guidance and direction, sometimes clarity because we don't trust our own. Uh, so they help give us clarity. And a lot of times their job is really to give confirmation because again, we'll get messages and things and we'll go, oh, you know, it's just my imagination, it's just wishful thinking, that kind of thing. So that's kind of where they're coming from.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. What you touched on here is so important, and that is that we've intuitively lost the ability to trust ourselves.

SPEAKER_02

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

We second guess, we outsource validation, we look for something else outside of us to tell us what we know to be right or wrong. And so on that idea or that concept, are there certain practices or or tools that you use to help somebody connect back to their authentic self?

SPEAKER_00

Here's where I sound like the record player. Okay. I will tell you the number one tool for connecting to yourself and living a balanced life is meditation, meditation, and meditation. And I don't care what kind of meditation it is because all different people need different kinds of meditation. People that are new to meditation, I always recommend guided meditation. I still do I've been meditating for literally decades, and I still uh I still use guided meditation because I am crappy at any form of silent meditation. I'm just not good at it. I'm much better in a guided situation with and with music or with what's really big for me, and I'm not surprised it is because of my first initial connection to um spirituality, is nature sounds. Yeah. Okay. And that to me is that just really just draws me out of this world, this 3D world, and allows me to journey within myself. So um that's so important. I will tell you, literally, meditation, especially when I went through that period when my entire life imploded and exploded at the same time. Yeah, meditation literally saved my life. I was so that's the right word. Chaotic. I think there's a better word, but that that'll that'll work for the moment. That I was literally in the beginning, I was meditating. Three, four, or five times a day just to keep myself on this earth. I I went through a period where I seriously considered leaving.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. That's happened at a couple different junctures in my life, but that was a real because you know, it was just like I said, everything. Usually, people, when something happens, it's usually in one segment of their life, maybe two. Okay. It was all of mine. Okay. It was business, it was personal, it was relationship, it was physical. Everything happened all at once. So it was extremely, extremely difficult. And I was in a bad, very bad place. So I when I say that meditation literally saved my life, it literally did. Okay. I'm a believer. Yeah. And it can, it can do all. And the reason I love meditation so much is it covers all four pillars at the same time physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, all at the same time. Between that and yoga, yoga for me uh was mental, but it was I had a lot of physical injuries. I had four or five car accidents. I, you know, I had crazy all kinds of sports injuries. Uh I please say if I had known that I was gonna live this long, then I would have been much gentler on my body. But um uh, but it really healed like

Rebuilding Trust in Your Intuition

SPEAKER_00

I did seven years of intensive therapeutic yoga, and it literally healed my body. Like it healed stuff that I was told by doctors that would never heal, that I would have to deal with for the rest of my life. And I just said, bullshit. Yeah, and I I got going. And it's that one, it's that amazing. It's that amazing.

SPEAKER_01

Everything that you're saying tracks with me. I did an episode with a neurosurgeon on the benefits of yoga in healing the spine and the systemic effects in the body. I mean, it is well backed up, so that's so profound that we all come to the same conclusions down these different channels, right?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, exactly.

SPEAKER_01

The meditation aspect as well, everybody goes through that dark night of the soul at some point in their lifetime, probably multiple times. And then multiple times over lifetimes, if that's your belief, right? And to to realize that that is not it should not be stigmatized the way I feel it is, that nobody feels depression or nobody has suicidal ideation. But I think that sets this impossible standard bar that people then hold themselves to that just drives them further down when they're in those spaces. And yes, mindfulness, meditation. I feel that it also has saved my life. I discovered an app called Unplug. I don't know if you've heard of it or not. It's just a meditation app. So there's so many. There's so many.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, there's so many amazing. Like I I discovered calm. Yes, calm's another one. I discovered the other one that I worked with quite a bit, is uh what is it?

SPEAKER_01

Headspace was a good one for Headspace. There's the other one. I don't know if he's a real guy or not, but Andrew, who does the voice for Headspace, I don't know if it's a real Andrew or if it's an AI Andrew, but his voice is so soothing that it used to be the only way that I could sleep when I had horrible insomnia. I would just put him on and I don't even know what we were meditating about, but I could fall asleep.

SPEAKER_00

Well, and that's also what helped me because I used to have a severe for years. Well, I think it was from working in the advertising business because they they've uh actually compared it to the stress level of first responders. So I worked in the advertising industry for 30 years, and I tell you, I had a serious sleep problem. A serious sleep problem. And I totally

Meditation as Lifeline and Practice

SPEAKER_00

between the combination of yoga and meditation, I I totally healed my sleep problem. Like I'll give you an example. I slept for seven hours last night. Two and a half hours were deep sleep, two and a half hours were REM sleep. That's five. So if you put them together, that's five hours of deep sleep out of seven hours. That's like that's amazing. Do you wear and some kind of biofeedback tools so you can track that? No, but I will tell you, yeah, I'm not trying to sell these, but I have noticed uh a change. Like I solved my sleep problem before I got, I have a uh what are those grounding sheets? Yeah, I've heard of them, and uh, they're expensive, they've got silver fibers in them. They actually work really, really well to help keep you grounded. And honestly, right now with all the energetics that are going on on the earth, because of the stuff that's going on in the sun, because of all these asteroids, because of the cosmic crap that's going on out there, yeah. Um, I would highly recommend some form of grounding while you're sleeping. Because let's face it, we're spending anywhere from five to eight hours, yeah, a third of our life in bed, uh, or we should be okay, sleeping. Yes. I'm not talking about energetic, energetic exercises. I'm talking about sleeping. Um, we should that should be the most grounded place that we have. And the other thing that that I really talk to people about uh in terms of healing and being grounded is being outside. Like I go right back to my roots. Nature is my place, and uh, you know, the Japanese even have this thing now, they call it forest bathing. I love that.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, what is the term forest?

SPEAKER_00

Forest bathing. I forget the actual Japanese word for words, but it that's the translation. It's forest bathing and just being near trees, and the more we find out about trees and the the my what is it, myocelium? It's the mycelium, yeah. There we go. Mycelium, the underground network, the underground network, all the trees are connected and everything. Like, I knew a lot of this stuff intuitively, but now this is what I'm talking about how science finally catches up to the things that we either know spiritually or we know for ourselves intuitively. So those are all things that absolutely people can do, and these are all very simple things, like, but you need to, it's it's not something that you do for three months or six months or a year. I'm talking about making lifestyle changes, and this is what people don't understand. Yeah, it's not something that you do as a temporary fix, it's something that you incorporate into your life, and I've really learned that. And that my new one, because I've been having some issues. My new one is I've always been fairly healthy healthy in the food department. Big component. Yeah, I have had some problems since COVID. Well, here's another thing. I'm talking about resilience. I had COVID at the end of 2019 before we knew what it was. Okay. I thought I I was deathly ill for three weeks. I mean, I was in bed for three weeks. Uh, and I and luckily I have an en suite because I literally was so weak I had to crawl to the toilet.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

I thought I had um pneumonia.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

From the coughing to respiratory. Yeah, I thought it was pneumonia. And uh, and you have to realize I'm a person who almost never gets sick. I mean, never. And if I get a cold, it's maybe four days, maximum five days, and I'm bounced back and I'm bushy-tailed and little ever ready bunny, ready to go. Okay. Well, I was deathly ill, bedridden for three weeks, and then it took me, I almost checked myself into the hospital, and then I start. I at that point, when I was ready to check myself into the hospital, I started getting better, and I thought, okay, no, I'm gonna stay home. And I'm glad I did because they probably would have killed me at the hospital, but that's another story. Yeah. So it took me another four weeks after that, four, four to six weeks to get back to feeling human. And by that time, we discovered it that it was COVID. And I went, that's what it was, because I'd never been that sick in my entire life. But the short story is I also had some long COVID, some complications from COVID. I had heart issues from from after COVID. And I it took me because when I started finding out that there was a problem, we were into lockdown, and uh then I couldn't get properly diagnosed. Right. The long story short, I ended up having open heart surgery in August of 2021. So it's been a long recovery. They tell you it's about a year to a year and a half recovery. Bullshit. Yeah, it's way longer than that. Like that's the recovery from the actual surgery, but the actual recovery to your body takes way longer than that. And something I never even wrapped my head around till later, I had some issues happen and I realized what was going on. They cut right into your heart chakra, not to mention your they take out your physical heart and they play with it. Yes. And I had some energetic things going on, and I couldn't figure out what's going on. And then all of a sudden, I a year or so later, I realized, Laura, you should have got this right away because they screwed around heart chakra. Yeah, so there was a lot of things going on energetically and physically.

SPEAKER_01

So that was not Can I share something with you? What you just said really resonated with me. I had uh total hysterectomy just over a year and a half ago. I've been having some issues with sacral chakra, and things just don't feel right. And I thought, oh, just perimenopause. You know, what's going on? There's a medical explanation for it. I think you just touched on what it was, and and that aligns with some literature I'd been reading. I'd done a bunch of energy work with the chakras, just reading about them and then meditating and

Sleep, Grounding, and Nature as Medicine

SPEAKER_01

doing some work on myself, but uh that really tracks. So thank you for sharing that because I feel like spirit just gave me a little more.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I would I would suggest to you or anyone else who's had a similar issue, uh, whenever they're dealing with things of that are directly connected to your major chakras, after you have such things, like your hysterectomy, that's huge for your sacral chakra. And they're also saying for your root chakra, by the way. So you've probably been feeling ungrounded. I would suggest that you find yourself a good energy healer, which is part of what I was had to do go through too. Yeah. Um, just so everybody knows if you have one of these major um interventional surgeries on major chakra areas or organs that are directly connected to those chakras, you need some energetic help in order to heal. Uh, because the physical healing is one side of the game, but the energetic healing is a whole nother ball game.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm blown away that I hadn't put that together until you shared that.

SPEAKER_00

So I really say I'm like a year later, I'm going, Doug. Yeah, you know, you know all this stuff. Why didn't you figure this out before? But you know, it's the whole thing.

SPEAKER_01

It's the same thing.

SPEAKER_00

It's like blindings are on, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so when it's about you, ask me, I would have been like, of course, this is what's happening, but I can't see that in myself for some reason.

SPEAKER_00

I guess. Well, it's just like, you know, people will say to me, Oh, you're so lucky, like you get all this information and stuff and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. And I go, Well, you know what? To be honest, I get a lot of information for other people, but I don't necessarily get clear information all the time for myself. Okay. Isn't that interesting? And I've actually had my guides. Okay. My guides are they're just a hilarious crew, and I'll ask them a question. And depending on the question, they'll go, figure it out. And then they'll go, Well, yeah, once you figure it out, come back and ask us, and we'll tell you if you're right or not. And I'm like, Really? You threw ready yesterday, and you're gonna tell me, and they're like, no.

SPEAKER_01

Do you know who's on your spirit team? Do you know who they are? Are they archangels? Are they ascendant masters? People have so many different labels as humans. We love to label.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'll tell you the overall thing that they say about naming uh and your angels, okay? They that's a humanistic harker. I can't even give you hierarchy. Yeah, we want to give hierarchy, okay. And they don't care. You could call them Bob, Sally, and Sue for all they care, okay. But I have through different sources, different other people that I've worked with, and also through my own experience being told, I yes, I do know some of my I know my main ones, but I was told it's a funny story. I I can tell you that if you want, if we have time. But how I I have a really large group, I have a big team, okay? And it's not about ego, it's not about some people have big teams. If I see somebody that has a big team, I know right away that they're here to help a lot of people. Okay, so it just makes sense. You're here to help a lot of people, then you have a big team. Okay, that makes sense. Uh but having a smaller team or a bigger team, it doesn't matter. Okay, I have like a humongous team. Like I've actually been told by a really good, experienced energy healer. She says, Lori, you have so many guides and angels, I just have trouble fitting myself in the room. Wow. There's so many, like they literally says they literally line up in rows. Yeah. When I'm working on you, she says, I have to ask them to just get out of the way for a while, right? That's amazing. Yeah. So my biggie, my boy is is Archangel Michael, because I am from the family of Michael. I'm a warrior angel, and you'll laugh at this, but people not knowing this from the time I was very, very young. Uh, my one of my nicknames, and people have called me this that are totally unrelated to each other. Okay, so it's not like it got passed around. They call me the warrior, uh, warrior princess. Oh, okay. So it tracks, right? So uh, because anybody who knows anything about Archangel Michael, he's the warrior angel. Okay, the other one, and this has every time I mention her name, everybody because it's so caught up in Catholicism, but I can tell you it she has nothing to do with Catholicism, is uh Mother Mary and her mother, whose name is Anna, which a lot of people don't know.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Those are the three that I'm I know by name. Like I said, I got a lot more. There are you say meant there's some ascended masters, there's other angels. Um, if I'm working on something, and this is true for everyone, if I'm working on something in particular and I need a certain kind of help, there will be what I call specialists who will come on to my team. Um, your team, what I call your core team, that's the team that you come in with and stays with you until you leave. But everybody can have specialists or loved ones. Like I'm sure Tim is on my Tim. Yeah, I never thought about that, but yeah, Timmy's on my team.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah. So those are my big ones. And I I have discovered all of them in very different ways. Actually, I discovered Mother Mary. I discovered Mother Mary when I was at in Brazil, a John of God. Uh, because Mother Mary is one of the guardians. Mother Mary is not who people think she is. I've been shown that Mother Mary was actually an arc archangel. It's as far as I've been told, archangels never come into human form. Okay. Oh, interesting. Um, she had to do, she had to make a major sacrifice in order to come into human form because she took on the mission of being Yeshua's mother and that whole bringing basically birthing the Christ consciousness on earth. So that so Mother Mary, uh, Mother Mary was actually an archangel who agreed to step herself down so much in order to come into human form and to birth Christ's consciousness on the earth.

SPEAKER_01

That's amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_01

I like that you highlighted how there can be different points of connection during different times in your life. They kind of come and go as they're needed throughout the life.

SPEAKER_00

Specialists, yeah. Yeah, the specialists usually come and go as they're needed.

Energy, Chakras, and Post‑Surgery Repair

SPEAKER_00

Even our loved ones who come on to our teams, they can eat, they have the choice. They can either stay for the duration, the rest of the duration until we leave, or they can sometimes come maybe just at certain periods. You know, I always look at uh what I've been shown is when loved ones from the other side come onto our team, they usually come on and their kind of purpose is to be like the I I call it the guardian angel, okay, which is which is love, support, protection, and cheerleading. Okay, that's that's why they come onto our team. And when they come on, they're always around us, but when they come actually part of our become part of our team, then they're even closer. Okay, our team is so close to us. They're basically they're part of us, okay. And your team speaks with one voice, by the way. Everybody's team, it doesn't matter how many, uh, how many masters or guides or angels or whatever you have on your team. Your team usually always speaks okay. There's a couple of exceptions. There's a couple of exceptions, but most of the time it's weird speaking with one voice.

SPEAKER_01

Now tying that back into meditation, is that the voice, the inner voice that we're listening to? Or do you think that those are two separate things?

SPEAKER_00

Okay, especially if you're asking questions and you're asking questions of your team, yeah. Um, they will often because you're most open in meditation, yeah. So they can come and and in your dreams too, okay? Yeah, it at nighttime. If you ask for things and especially if you ask for things just before you go to sleep or ask questions, they will often come into dream time. I like talking about it like the Aborigines dream time. Yeah, it makes it a whole different dimension.

SPEAKER_01

You brought up something so interesting, and that is the connection to loved ones on the other side, the intentions you set right before you fall asleep and go into this space in dreaming. I know that you also identify and work as a medium, which is connecting with people that have passed. What does that look like for you in your work?

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Well, mediumship, I came sort of after my psych psychics read energy and they they connect to your energy and energies around you, whether it's in this lifetime or past lifetime or whatever. Uh, mediumship is a whole different thing. And there'll be people out there who will argue with me, but I can tell you that all the most famous mediums who have been around the longest all agree with the way I look at it and what I've been told. And um, mediumship is a separate gift, okay? We're all psychic, every single person is psychic, just some are better than at it than others. I I I like it and I love my basketball. I don't know why because I I I like basketball, but it's not my favorite sport. But it's like basketball. It's a good analogy. Yeah, everybody can play basketball, yes, but some people are way better at it than others. Some people come in with the natural ability, and some people either use that natural ability or they don't, or some people that come in with not so much of a natural ability, they really work at it and they can become very good at it.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so this is talking like intuition and what we would refer to as the clairs, right? The different intuitive clears that you can have avoidance, clears.

SPEAKER_00

That's a good way of describing it. Yes. Yeah, the clairs. Some people have multiple clairs, some people have usually people have are better. Like I have all the clairs, but I'm certainly better at some more than others. Uh, but mediumship, this is the point I want to get across because this is what a lot of people, even spiritual people, a lot of spiritual people don't understand. All mediums are psychic, not all psychics are mediums. I've heard that because mediumship is a different gift. What bothers me nowadays is there's a whole bunch of people out there telling you that they can make you a medium, which they can't. Okay. If you come in with the gift, they can help you to get better, but if you don't have the gift, they can't make you into a medium. Okay, that's not true. Where was I going with this? You asked me a question about medium shifting. Oh, yeah. I was curious about how it how that plays out for you. Yeah, because there's different kinds of mediums, okay. The ones that probably most people are most aware of are what's called evidentiary mediums. These are the people on TV and they're out there and they spew all these facts and all this stuff. And I I always see that their main focus is to help people believe that there's life after death. Okay. That's kind of their major thing. Okay. That's not my thing. I'm not an evidentiary medium. Um, I was brought into my mediumship through because I've experienced so much grief that I use it as a tool to help people heal their grief and understand what's going on within them. Okay. And I also have a commitment. I have a commitment to the living to help them heal their grief. I have a commitment to the people on the other side to help them get their messages across. Okay. So for me, it's not so much about the evidence, because honestly, I don't care if you believe in an afterlife or not. Okay. You you yeah, that's your choice. You can do whatever you want to do. I don't care. I'm not going to try to convince anybody of anything. Uh, I usually end up doing that, but that's not my purpose. Okay. My purpose is to help people heal. I'll give you a quick example if you'd like. Um, yeah. This is the example I often use because it's so poignant. There, I had in one session a family. Actually, the friends of the family were at the session. There was a young man, he was involved in a one-vehicle accident. Actually, it was on a motorcycle. And he actually uh ran his motorcycle into a big tree and killed himself. Okay.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because of the lack, because of the evidence at the scene, the lack of skid marks, the lack of trying

Spirit Teams, Guides, and “Specialists”

SPEAKER_00

to avoid the tree, all this stuff. The police ruled it as a suicide, which absolutely devastated, which is common. If there's no that I'm not saying the police did anything wrong, I'm just saying they just followed their protocol. They followed the evidence. Okay. And so they um they deemed it a suicide. And this just absolutely devastated his family, his brother, his friends, and unfortunately, with young people, especially young males, uh, suicide is contagious. So he had one of his friends, and I think even his brother at one of his brothers at the time became suicidal themselves. Okay, and his family was just destroyed. And uh they were just in the most it's one thing grieving, it's another thing when somebody you think somebody's taking their own life because there's all kinds of guilt and remorse, and we should have seen this, and we should have seen that. There's all of these different elements that go into it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Well, he came through because he wanted to heal his family. And what had happened in a kind of reader's digest, he had had a really bad cold and he had taken a bunch of over-the-counter cold medicines. And of course, he uh what happened is he basically fell asleep at the wheel, and that's why there was no skid marks, no nothing. So he came through and he took, he he told his story and he took responsibility for causing his own death, but he was adamant that he was was not committing suicide. He just committed it because he knew better. He knew that he shouldn't be driving and having all that cold medication in him. Um, so he took responsibility, but he absolutely made it very clear that he was not, he did not commit suicide. So the ripple of healing that went out to his friends and his family and everything was just like amazing. See, that's what I want to do. I want to help people understand, help people heal. That's what I do with my mediumship.

SPEAKER_01

That's amazing. Where along the way for you did you realize that you could connect with people that had passed? How did you realize you had that ability?

SPEAKER_00

I don't actually I think it was okay. Thanks for the help. I think it was um when people because people start in my other sessions, my regular psychic sessions, I started having people coming through from the other side. And this was when I started seeing how much it helped people. Okay, because the other biggie for people is there's so many people who weren't there at the time of somebody's passing, and they end up having huge regret and guilt and remorse, and that they weren't there, that they weren't there to say goodbye, that they weren't there, and this causes people to continue grieving endlessly, okay, which is not what's supposed to happen. And that's what our loved ones on the other side know. They know that because we're in the physical, we have to grieve, but they don't want us to grieve forever, okay. I've seen people who are still in grief mode, they get stuck, okay. And yeah, if you if you've read any of Kubler Ross's material, like there's like what five or seven stages, I can't remember, of grief. And a lot of people get stuck somewhere along that road.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And uh when you see somebody that's still grieving after 10 years, yeah, uh, that is like, oh no, no, no, no. Okay, because that's ruining somebody's life because they can't go on with their life.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. And to add to that, grief is is tricky. My own grieving processes that I've experienced. I think I'm through all of those things, and then something comes up and it is a triggering event, and I realize, oh, I was stuck. I hadn't actually moved past, or maybe I cycled through it. Maybe grief is is more of a cycle until you finally close it.

SPEAKER_00

It's a cycle. I always say, okay, I'll give you credit. I sometimes I don't know where stuff comes through, whether it comes me or through me, but anyway, it doesn't really matter. I have my guides are they're funny, they love to tease me. That's why that if you don't know, Sperry has an amazing sense of humor, by the way. And that's probably why they picked me to do this because I have a really good sense of humor in case you hadn't noticed. Uh uh, I find funny and irony and everything. But what I was gonna say is when um a good test of whether you're healed from your grieving process is when you can talk about that person and not break into tears or not break down. Okay, if you're still doing that, you're not healed yet. Because when you're healed, you can talk about that person. You might get a little teary-eyed, but the tears are tears of joy because you are remembering that person and how wonderful they were and wonderful things that you did with them. Okay, that's very different than tears of greed. Okay, you see what I'm saying? Yes, so when you can speak of somebody and and in a wonderful way, and you can remember them without breaking down, uh, then you know you're healed. Yeah, that's um actually. I this begs being mentioned too. This is also when you can tell you've healed from a trauma.

SPEAKER_01

I was going to ask if you felt that was applicable to experiences as well.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it is applicable. See, they're they're weird. You they can tell what you're thinking.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I'm noticing that because yeah, you're like one step ahead of me. It's like you can see the questions in my mind is performing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's the same thing with trauma. Okay, any kind of trauma. If you can talk about the trauma without breaking down, you've healed. If you're still breaking down, then you're not healed from the trauma. In that particular case, too, it's probably a sign that you may need some help getting through it. Okay, because there may be some stuff, because there's then there's nothing wrong with that. There's not, we can't some traumas and stuff we can make our own way through, but sometimes we all just need help, you know. I I've gotten help, you know, there's there's all kinds of stuff that goes on that we don't realize that uh there's nothing wrong with reaching out for help. Okay. And I will say for most people, talking to a friend or a loved one can be very supportive, but if you really want to heal.

Mediumship for Grief Healing

SPEAKER_00

That's not the way to do it. Okay. Because there's a difference between talking, I talk about blowback because whenever you're talking to somebody about a trauma or about something that's happened to you, uh, and you're talking to somebody that you have an emotional connection with, there's always a tendency to for blowback, and you can't be as forthright and you can't really empty yourself out the way you could with a stranger. That's why top therapy and stuff can help. It's definitely not the be all and the end all because of a whole bunch of reasons, but we haven't got time to go into all those reasons. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But I know what you mean from my own personal experience. Yeah. Yeah. And and being willing to try many different types of trauma therapy, right? Like, you know, if you're oh, absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

I tell people different things. You just keep, yeah, you just keep trying. If one thing doesn't work, you move on to something else. And don't be afraid to um try non-traditional things too. Yeah. Because and mixing traditional with non-traditional. Because sometimes that's just what you need, you know.

SPEAKER_01

I also believe that to be true. Wow, I feel like there are so many things I could talk with you about. Like we could just go on and on. And I promised that I would try to keep this to it. We'll have to do, we'll have to do Laura 2.0. Yeah, we will. This has been such a gift. I of all my questions, I'm looking at I have so many more to ask you. Okay. The one I want to close with, and this is one that I'm sure you'll be able to answer is in this lifetime, what do you believe is the single most important task to be completed? That feels like a good way to close out.

SPEAKER_00

I think the most important thing is to our own self-integration. Okay, there's two main things. One is we all have a divine masculine and a divine feminine side, and we need to bring those together so they work together. Okay, that's been a big theme in in my life and many of the people that I see. Because when we're born, we either skew one way or the other. And it's bringing those two things together, those two energies together, and making them work in concert. The other thing is healing yourself, okay? Because healing yourself, you not only heal yourself, you heal seven generations back and seven generations to forward. So let's put it this way: if you really want to do something for your children, if you have children, uh, heal yourself, okay? Because also, and until you heal yourself, you are not fully available to anyone else. Okay. I'm not saying you can't help anybody else, but I'm saying if you really want to be fully available to yourself and to all those people that you love around you, whether they be friends or family or colleagues or whatever they be, you need to heal yourself.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And that's an ongoing process. It's not one and done. Okay. And by the way, healing healing goes on from lifetime to lifetime. If you don't heal it in this lifetime, I guarantee you'll be you'll be on the same lessons in your next life. So why wouldn't you want to get it done now instead of having to repeat these things in another life to God? You can move on to bigger and better things.

SPEAKER_01

That's so true. And the more that I learn about spirituality in general, the more the what you just shared, almost verbatim, are the universal truths that I keep discovering. The answers are inside of you. It starts with yourself. You have to do the work, you have to learn how to sit with yourself. You have to learn how to start the healing process and love yourself first so that you actually show up and love the other people in your life that you are wanting to do this for.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. Right. And the biggest way you know that you've you're getting there or that you've gotten a lot of the way there is if you are comfortable being alone. Okay. There's a difference between being lonely and being alone. And there's so many people in our society today that they actually cannot handle their own company, just being in their own presence. And it and that just speaks volumes. If you can't do that, you aren't there, baby. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And a great, great tool to start with that is the one you talked about with meditation. Meditation teaches you how to sit with yourself.

SPEAKER_00

The other one that's good. Now it's doesn't, it's not for everybody because I'm more of a talker and a listener than I am of a writer, but a lot of people are writers. Um journaling is a form of meditation. Okay. And some people and I would even I would even suggest to some people if they absolutely, because I've met people that absolutely cannot meditate. Okay. If you absolutely cannot meditate, the way that you get yourself into meditation is by journaling. That's a gateway. It's a gateway, it's a it's a gateway drug. It's a gateway drug to meditation. It's a gateway to meditation, is journaling. Now it doesn't work for everyone. And if you're not a writer and you still want to journal, with all our tools today, you know, they've got the voice recordings. You can have, I've got a journal on my phone. Yeah, you can either voice journal or you can text journal. Some people just have a really hard time with pen and paper. And I I bet probably a lot of the young people these days because they've been so brainwashed that that's pass a uh heaven alpha technology goes away. Right. Uh, that's a whole nother topic. We could we could talk whether it's that's a great point, too.

SPEAKER_01

So if meditation feels like too much, journaling is a great place to start. Now that I think back of my own journey, it actually followed that path. I started on my phone journaling, then I moved to a real journal and started writing, then I moved to meditation, then I moved to the other thing is walking meditation. Oh yeah.

Okay, adding and some some people just can't get their brain to slow down, and that's a good place to start if you can do walking meditation. The other one is um mazes. They're not mazes. What the heck are they called? Help me out here. They're sacred mazes that you walk through, and there's a name, and I can't. No, is it it's not a labyrinth, is it? Labyrinth, okay. Labyrinth, yes. That is another tool actually I used for healing when I was really in down in the mud, okay? When I couldn't do anything, when I couldn't journal, when I couldn't meditate, when I couldn't do anything. Thankfully, I had a couple of make uh labyrinths that sacred labyrinths that were fairly close that I could access, but amazing. And it seems so simple, but it's just it's amazing. I've never done one. I will have to go find some. You have to find one, yeah, because they need to be real ones, like full size. Yeah, like I said, I was lucky that there's a couple that are around me accessible, but I would suggest that it, you know, Google's your friend, you know, wherever you're living, just Google uh labyrinths. Some of them are some of them are outdoors, probably most of them are outdoors. Actually, we have one in Vancouver that's in a um church, adjacent church building. It's more like an auditorium section of the church. And they actually have, I think it's it's St. Paul's, they actually have an indoor labyrinth, a full-size indoor labyrinth, which is very cool. That's amazing. Great use of that because it's you can go anytime, right? It's not like not weather dependent. Yeah, it's not weather dependent. So um, yeah, so that's something else. That is a whole that is very extremely

ancient mysticism, and there's energy wound up in all that. You can read about that. There's a lot of stuff around labyrinths, but they're very powerful.
