When Stepping Into the Dark: Stories from the Ambush in York
In this deeply human episode, we tell the stories behind the names — Detective Sergeant Cody Becker, Detective Mark Baker, and Detective Isaiah Emenheiser — three men who walked into danger in North Codorus Township, York County, PA, on September 17, 2025, and didn’t come home. We also share the journey of the two officers who survived — the Northern York County detective and York County sheriff’s deputy — who despite being critically wounded, are now fighting to heal.
You’ll hear about their lives off the badge: Becker’s years of service, whose courage in past rescues already defined him; Baker’s path from Philadelphia to forensic work; Emenheiser’s steadfast commitment to policing and community. You'll also meet the survivor officers, their sacrifice and trauma, what they mean to their families, colleagues, and the community. Beyond the headlines of the ambush, this episode reflects on what it means to protect others, the cost of domestic violence turned lethal, and how a community copes when the worst happens.
This is not just a recounting of tragedy — it's a portrait of devotion, love, loss, resilience, and what one moment can reveal about the strength in ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
