Echoes of the Prophets - Dobson, MacArthur, Robertson, Baucham, Kirk - Protect Your Children

James Dobson. John MacArthur. Phil Robertson. Voddie Baucham. Charlie Kirk. The prophets are gone, but their voices still echo. Kevin and Danny mark one year since these five godly leaders passed away. They revisit the urgent, biblical case made by each of them - to pull the children out of the godless public schools before it's too late. Will the church listen to their voices?

This is Generations Kevin Swanson here with you, and it's been a year now since we lost The Last of the Lions. You remember the Vodie, Charlie, Phil, Pastor John, and Dr. Jim Dobson. Phil Robertson died on May 25th last year at age 79. John MacArthur died on July 14th last year at age 86. James Dobson died on August 21st at age 89. Charlie Kirk died on September 10th at age 31. And Vody Bauckham died last year, September 25th, at age 56. They're all gone now. They ran the good race. They finished the course. Five of the last godly leaders in America all died last year. And who's left? Well, just a few of us little guys still trying to salvage what's left of the Christian faith in the West. Yeah. It's been a year now since the death of Vody, Charlie, Phil, Pastor John, and Dr. Jim Dobson. So not sure anybody else noticed, but we feel that some honor is due right now as the curtain falls and the faith fades in the West. What were the dying words of the last of the prophets in the new secular age, the post-Christian age? What was that they said? What did they say to us during their prophetic years? All five of them were the strongest voices in the country, arguably the strongest voices in the country, Contramundu against the world. They were all kicked out of the game. Phil was kicked off AE channel in 2014, then again in 2017. Dr. Jim was pretty much kicked out of focus in 2010. Bakham was kicked out of the country, sort of. Charlie Kirk was kicked out by an assassination, as we all know. And Pastor John was more or less kicked out of the Gospel Coalition, what, 10 years ago, and Big Eva as well. So what's the common thread here? These were the five strongest voices in the country that stood against abortion, LGBTQ agenda, the woke agenda, the socialist agenda, the humanist agenda. They all promoted removing children from public schools. Jill Robertson, Pastor John MacArthur, Dr. James Dobson, Vodie Bacham, Charlie Kirk, they left the same message. Get your children out of these public schools now. That's what they said. We're picking up with a message, taking it to the nation ourselves now. What about public school free rallies in every state? Well, that happened for a short time. Back in 2002, Dobson said, in the state of California, if I had a child there, I would not put that youngster in a public school. Just three years ago, Phil Robertson came out and said something similar. When you outsource a father's instruction and a mother's teaching to the government, you get what you have now: ungodly public schools that fail our children, fill their minds with evil. Bad move, America. It's getting worse and worse. Furthermore, Phil said we turn the family structure over to the government to teach and guide our children in. Bad move, bad move. I would not recommend any children going to the public school. The preacher, the pastor, the evangelist Vody Bacham, also a tireless campaigner for all of this. You remember the line he used most often. We cannot continue to send our children to Caesar for their education and be surprised when they come home as Romans. Vodi went on and said, Our schools are anti-Christian by federal mandate. It's against the law for our schools, for government schools in the United States to be pro-Christ. Pastor John MacArthur warned that the child will be sent to a public school and come under the influence of those whose agenda is anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-scripture. He took the gloves off in his 2024 book, probably his last word to the Christian world. I quote, the enemy's aim is to capture your children's hearts and put them in permanent bondage by enslaving them to a sinfully corrupt worldview. Don't leave your children in a public school if they are being bombarded daily with immoral and godless propaganda. Don't enroll them in a private school. That's not truly and thoroughly biblical. What disturbs me most about the 21st century is the way the media educational institutions and other influencers and our culture are waging war on children. Strong words. I mean, super, super strong words. Anybody listening to the dying words of one of the most important leaders of the Christian church in the 20th century? And don't forget Charlie Kirk's late comments. My money's on homeschool kids. They're going to be the ones running society. On Tucker Carlson's show, Charlie urged everybody, this means homeschooling your kids, taking them out of government schools. This means you're going to feed your kids and grandkids healthy food. This means you're going to learn every single week and prioritize it. These are five guys, five men, huge influencers. In our day, the the most influential influencers that are left in the Christian West, and they're the last of the prophets, and they're gone now. Will anybody listen? This is pretty much the end. Are you going to listen to them? Is anybody gonna listen? I'm speaking to the last of the 78 million evangelicals in America, the 83% that still send their kids off to the public schools. Are you gonna listen to the dying words of the last of the prophets? They're gone now. They're gone. Get your kids out of the godless schools where there's no fear of God, there's no prayer, there's no scripture integrated like a frontlet into every aspect of the curriculum, Deuteronomy 6. You know, I was I was born in 1964, the year the U.S. Supreme Court banned the Bible, banned the fear of God. They took God out, they took Jesus out, they took the Bible out, they took creation out, they took prayer, they took it all out. So all we're saying is let's bring it back. Do just the opposite of what the US Supreme Court said to do, and do it on steroids. Bring God back on every page, every day, every hour, every minute. Bring Jesus back, bring the Bible back, frontlet for the eyes. Integrate it every page, bring creation back, bring prayer back, bring the Ten Commandments back, wallpaper your house and the Ten Commandments. Just bring it all back. Do everything you can possibly do to insult the Supreme Court of the United States at this point. Absolutely everything you can possibly do, do just the opposite. Do what God would have you to do. More conversation on this now. Danny Craig in studio here at Generations. Danny, is there anybody left? These are some of the most important voices. These are the strongest voices. Is that true? I mean, uh am I right here? These these were the strongest voices for you know opposing secularism and taking on this gigantic dragon that has got its claws into each successive generation. They're they're just dedicated to the deception and and to the taking our kids to hell one generation after another. And that I mean that this is an all-out war, and these guys were frontline warriors in this battle, and that they're all gone now. I mean, am I overstating the case?

Aaron Powell Well, there are certainly people that today advocate pulling your kids out of the public school, but I'm not sure if they have the direction that these men have.

And and specifically, these men, it wasn't just pull your kids out of the public school, but they were advocating for a God-centered education as well as as we go through the clips that we're going to talk about. They they they wanted children to be saturated in the Word of God in their education.

And and we want to memorialize these great men of God by by by quoting them, by bringing out the YouTubes and the videos that are still available of these words that they gave to us. And I think the scariest thing right now is that 78 million evangelicals still have their kids in these godless schools. There's two million, two of the seven of the eighty, about two of the eighty million have pulled their kids out. Um, but uh and we're talking about 12 million kids altogether. So out of 12 million kids, you have two million pulled out. That's 83 percent of evangelicals still send their kids off to public schools, and the overall numbers is 17 percent of American kids are homeschooled or private schooled. Meaning that the overall numbers are 83 percent. Evangelicals are pretty much like the rest of the population. It's not like, you know, you would think if these were Christians, they would be heading, I mean, if these were really committed Christians, this is where you you would think you'd be a difference in the stats. You would think there'd be a difference in the stats, but only 83 percent of evangelicals, only only two million of their kids have been weaned from the socialist, Marxist, humanist schools and the ideologies enforced upon them by the Supreme Court of the United States. Um I think also the impetus of governments have been very strong. You know, the world governments of Europe have banned uh homeschooling. This is actually very new that now they're banning state after state, country after country are banning home education because, of course, they're doing their absolute worst to try to destroy the faith in Europe. And I believe that's it. Because, you know, you may only have like 10,000 homeschoolers left in the Netherlands or in France or Spain or what have you, but uh but they're gonna purge all of them. They're doing everything they can to be sure there's not a single Christian parent left in Europe, uh, not one, not one Christian family, not one Christian parent left to pass the faith on because the children have to be in these public schools. They have to be indoctrinated by this anti-Christian, post-Christian, anti-God uh view of everything. And and so this this, I think, is an all-out spiritual war, and uh these men were on the forefront of it.

Aaron Powell And let's not kid ourselves into thinking that that European uh anti-God, anti-family title wave isn't headed our direction. And I think we all agree that we are experiencing the early ripples of that wave. And and and we ought to be concerned when we see a state like Connecticut this year going from the best state to homeschool in to a very now difficult state to homeschool in.

And Nebraska doing the same thing. Nebraska, you know, what about Colorado? Yeah, we may be next. Who knows? But uh but it I think it has everything to do with whether or not the evangelical population will step up to this. I mean, this this has been uh a shame, an utter shame upon Baptist churches, Presbyterian churches, evangelical churches, non-denominational churches. This is a shame, this is a crying shame that pastors won't stand up and follow in the footsteps of Odie Bacham, Dr. Jim Dobson, Dr. John MacArthur, and all the others.

We're gonna play a clip from Dr. MacArthur in just a moment, but one of the points he makes is that it is the responsibility of each generation to plant trees that provide shade for the successive generation. And he's specifically calling us as an evangelical movement to stem the tide of this war on children. So what you're saying is very critical. What are we going to do in this generation to stem the tide of this war on children coming after our kids in the form of education?

Dying words from some of the most important leaders of our generation. Are you going to listen to them or not? I guess that's my question. Let's go back to 1980. Let's go back to the beginning. Uh, you know, uh the 1970s, 1960s, 1970s. Remember, prayer, God, all these things were ripped out of the schools in the 60s and 70s. And by the time you get to 1980, Dr. Jim Dobson is starting to ask the questions.

Yeah, and and really, this uh clip that I want to play for our audience, I found it this morning. And I'm really thankful that I found this because I grew up hearing the story of how our family started to home educate. And it's very interesting that our stories, my mom and dad's story, is very similar to Dr. Dobson's story that he's gonna tell in this clip. My sister started out in public school in kindergarten that went okay, first grade, not so great.

And this is we're talking what, 1980s?

Yeah, 1980s. And they began to see some of the effects that the early education in first grade was having on Annalisa.

And they realized they had to do something different. They pulled her out, put her in Christian school. And it was right around 1980 when they heard this radio interview in which Dr. James Dobson interviews Raymond Moore on his book, Better Late Than Early. And this interview was the thing that was one of the main catalysts that led my parents to make the ultimate leap into home education. And as Dr. James Dobson uh describes later, it was this interview that was really the catalyst for his whole listening audience in many ways. I think we can agree, it really kicked off the firestorm of the homeschool movement in 1980.

Big time. Hundreds of thousands of families stepped in after this interview. Yeah.

After our daughter was born, uh my wife uh continued to teach school for two, three days a week. And uh one of the reasons was to allow our little girl to begin to get some quote socialization skills, unquote. And we took her to what was recommended to be an excellent preschool program. Um I remember one day that I took Danae to that school, and as I started to leave her, she turned around and grabbed me around the neck and hung on to me, and it was different from the usual grasping and holding that a toddler will do, because there was terror in her eyes, and she just screamed, and I could not pull her out of my arms. And uh the woman who ran the preschool program was pulling on her from the other side, and I took her back in my arms and we left together and went out in the car, and I said, Danae, you will never again have to go back. I don't know what took place there that caused that reaction, but you will never have to return. And since she has gotten older, I've asked her about that preschool and what she remembers, and she's described some pretty terrible things that were going on there. Now, this is not intended as an indictment of preschool programs because there's an awful lot of preschool uh teachers that love the kids just like they do their own. But uh still I think we are exposing a very vulnerable child at a very tender age of life to uh circumstances we're not totally uh that we can't predict with a hundred percent accuracy. And if it is possible for a mother to keep her sanity and do some of that teaching and quote socialization unquote at home, uh and not feel quite so much pressure to get started with formalized education, I think we're a long ways ahead.

There is the heresy to question the value of as many years in public education as possible. And that quote may not seem particularly counter-cultural in you know, in 2026.

Yeah.

But in 1980, to suggest the idea that a child would be better off at home being taught by a mom if she can quote unquote maintain her sanity, this was revolutionary at that time.

Yeah, it sure was. And yeah, people need to understand that that for the previous 200 years, the state had stepped in, and it was John Jacques Rousseau, of course, the the founder of the modern system of education. I talk about him in an apostate, the men who destroyed the Christian West. But one of the key quotes uh is that Rousseau, who abandoned five of his children on the steps of an orphanage and said, you know, tossed them over to professionals, and you guys take over from now. And uh basically said fathers and mothers are incompetent and are not supposed to be raising their own children. Uh Rousseau wanted a system of public instruction by the state. He prescribed many years with an unmarried tutor who withdraw the child as much as possible from parents and and relatives. Because he said a father owes men to humanity, a father owes his children as citizens to the state. And of course, this is the socialistic, this is the mechanistic, the the uh the whole you know programmed system of institutions that are supposed to be educating children in the modern age. This this was a radical, radical shift. His favorite book on education was Plato's Republic, in which he suggested a system of a social life in which a man and a woman come together for a temporary liaison. She has the child, the child comes out of the womb into the hands of professionals who take over from that point on. And this is what Plato said: no man should know his son, and no son should ever know who his father was. And uh, and that that was Rousseau's favorite book on education, Plato's Republic. So I think people understand that uh this was hardwired into the way of thinking in the modern age until that interview, until just a few Christians uh stood up and said, I wonder if God had something better in mind than John Jacques Rousseau, who abandoned five children on the steps of an orphanage the day they died or the day they're born, which effectively was the day they died, because he never met them anymore. Nobody ever knew whatever happened to them. Uh so he effectively, you know, abandoned and killed his five children and then went on to instruct the entire world how to institutionalize education under the rubric of the state. And uh so this this is the world we all grew up in in the 1950s, uh 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 1980s until you come to James Dobson's interview of Dr. Raymond Moore.

And over the succeeding 50 years, 45 years, uh what we see in the public education system is the absolute acceleration of Satan's uh devices in terms of waging war on children emotionally, spiritually, sexually, all forms of perversion. And this is what um Dr. MacArthur became very concerned about, especially. I think we see this uh emphasis mounting in his later last years of ministry. And in 2021, he preached a series of sermons on quote unquote providing shade for his children, and that became the foundation of one of the last books that he released in his life, which was The War on Children. And I think Dr. MacArthur does a good job of repainting the picture of what that war on children actually looks like.

Of all the horrific sinful, wretched, wicked, corrupt influences that go on in this culture. I think the thing that distresses me most is the war on children. This culture is weaponized to destroy children. It's systematically designed to do that. 62.5 million of them have been slaughtered in the womb since Roe v. Wade in the 70s. We all understand the breakdown of the family. If a child can escape abortion and be born, that child has about a 50-50 chance of being born to a married couple. It is likely that that married couple will get a divorce. It is likely that they will be unfaithful to their marital vows. It is likely that the child will be sent to a public school and come under the influence of those whose agenda is anti-God, anti-Christ, anti-scripture.

Those are fighting words. He's got the gloves off now, and that's the way he went. Towards the end of his life, he said, There's no more compromising on this issue. And boy, I think every one of these 78 million evangelicals in America should sit up and pay attention to this, Danny. If there was ever a time in which there should be some sober reflection upon the words of some wise men who have gone before us, it would be now. It would be right now.

Right. And uh in the final year of his life, he published this video in which he gives a very strong encouragement to this whole idea of biblical discipleship as the primary responsibility.

It goes back to Deuteronomy, doesn't it? When the Lord said to Israel, Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. And then he said, And teach this to your children.

These are the last desperate and urgent words that come from these great men of God. Let's move on to Vodi. Vodi's death was a surprise to everyone, as was Charlie's. And we're getting to Charlie as well, but I want you to play Vodi's quote. He obviously dedicated his life to this subject.

Not only must we avoid unbiblical influence, we must avoid unbiblical teaching. Romans 12, 2. Do not be conformed to this world. Be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Do not be conformed to this world. The ultimate act of being conformed to anything is the education process. Kindergarten through 12th grade, a child spends 14,000 instructional hours in school. 14,000 hours being conformed to this world. Second Corinthians 10 5. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ. Every thought thoughts about man. Thoughts about science, thoughts about history, everything. Take every thought captive to obey Christ.

I love that part of the quote. Thoughts about math, thoughts about science, thoughts about every subject. That kind of sounds like your mantra, Kevin.

Well, it's kind of like bringing God back into history. You know, here it is, taking the world for Jesus. God made me. How about biblical civics? You're gonna get that in your average public school? I don't think so. God's big story, your entire literature program for five years centered around the Bible itself. We're taking the Bible seriously. We're taking Deuteronomy 6.7 seriously. I i we've got to bring God back at center. We've got to bring God Jesus back as the center of history and uh and God's story or the counts and scripture as the basis for our kids' understanding of history, kids' understanding of literature. And uh so so, yes, just you know, making sure that that we're we're we're establishing every subject on a biblical worldview. We're abandoning this whole man-centered, humanistic, materialistic, anti-supernaturalistic worldview that you know is is right there at the foundation of every class in the public school today, Danny.

Yeah. Let's move on to Charlie Kirk because Charlie really went for the jugular and he actually made the claim that home education is the biblical model of education. Listen to this.

Our country's in trouble. That's not that's not a mystery. I I I there's a deliberate campaign that I call American Maoism, and it's important. If you understand what Mao attempted to do, the first thing he did when he took power was try to divide the parent from the child. My the most important of the Ten Commandments that I can share with all of you tonight is the only one of the ten commandments that involves your nation and a promise. Honor your mother and father so that you may live long in the land of which you are written. And those of you that have had the blessing to be homeschooled. That's right. The blessing to be homeschooled. I hope you and you will one day understand, especially if you go to college, most colleges, unless you go to Hillsdale, you're gonna be really surprised soon that it's very unique. In fact, that is the biblical model of education.

And I don't know as if there is a more famous Christian in America who had more of a microphone over the last number of years, certainly in the last year, than Charlie Kirk. And uh, you know, I it seems to me that God is using this voice as a prophetic voice. When I say prophetic voice, I'm simply saying somebody who's taking the word of God and making relevant application to that word, powerful relevant application of that word to the present situation. That's precisely what Charlie was doing.

And to all the homeschool moms who are coming up on another year of home education, sometimes, even after listening to all of this, they might still be thinking to themselves, but will my children turn out? This grand educational experiment that we're trying, will I actually ruin them? Be encouraged by this clip from Charlie. A young girl comes up to the mic and says, What should I say to all of the skeptics who think I'm weird for homeschooling? Listen to this.

I just wanted to ask you, what do you say to those that are against homeschooling?

Well, they they can apply for a job from you in 10 years from now. You're gonna be more polite, smarter, wiser, happier, more direction, more purpose, less corrupted, more understanding, more battle-ready, better prepared, less confused.

All right. Well, we've got uh just a few minutes left. Phil Robertson. Not everybody is considering Phil Robertson as, you know, the great spiritual leader, the theologian, the big guy with the beard who, you know, was the duck commander. In one of the most popular TV shows, he kicked off the TV show because he took a pretty strong moral position on biblical law, biblical ethics. And that was, you know, that was Phil. I mean, I'm I I give him kudos. Obviously, people have written into the program, said, well, Phil Robertson didn't really have the best theology. He wasn't a theologian, but he was a Christian influencer. And I think we need to listen to the last words of a dying man who had a prophetic word to share.

We turned the family structure over to the government to teach and guide our children. Bad move. I would not recommend any children going to public schools now. I just wouldn't do it. It's getting worse and worse. Getting worse and worse. Well, there it is.

Well, Danny, these are the dying words of dying men, and yet they contributed something to, I think, the maintenance of the faith. And one of the one of our passions is that we see the faith pass on from one generation to the next. And it's not going to happen if the devil has so much influence that he is going to bring a counter-worldview, a bad social environment, a bad instruction, a bad educational system, bad worldview brought about by the Supreme Court of the United States that bans any involvement of God, of the Bible, of prayer, of Jesus, of the centrality of these things that matter so much to the Christian into the public schools.

Kevin, that is the passion of generations is to pass on the faith to the next generation. And we want to do that by equipping parents with a curriculum that actually has this philosophy of a God-centered worldview, as Vody said, in math, in science, in history, in every single subject. There's no neutrality. We can actually bring God into the foundation of these subjects. He is the foundation of these subjects. And we want to make it easier for families to provide this kind of education to their children. And so that's why we have the generation's curriculum.
