I'm your host, Chris, and each week we share real conversations about faith, hope, and purpose. This is a place for encouragement and truth, where every story matters and every listener is welcome. No matter where you are in your journey, let's grow together under heaven. Welcome to Under Heaven Podcast, and I'm Trish, your host. Today we have a returning guest. I'm sure you enjoyed him the first time you heard, and he's here with a little more encouragement for you. We have Pastor Bert Tippett from Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Alabama. And I learned last time that your church is or your area is right in the middle of the state of Alabama, so people can come from all around.
SPEAKER_02Correct.
SPEAKER_00Correct. East, west, north, and south. You can you're gonna find us. If you get if you come to the middle of the state, you're gonna come, you're gonna go through Clinton.
SPEAKER_01So hey, there you go. And and it's like the peach capital. There's all kinds of peach stuff there. And they have festivals. They have the flying, what is flying peach flying peach barbecue. Barbecue. And every week they have some, every weekend they have uh crafts and things out there.
SPEAKER_00They have a um uh what we call a trade day, and they have vendors and they have all kinds of uh people come out. Um they have vendors that make things, crafts, they have people who write books or or just whatever you want to bring out there. If you just want to trade, uh I know they have this um this new this guy comes out there every time they have it. Um and you braise that uh that um that candy that's been um how can I put it? Uh freeze-dried, you know what I'm talking about?
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay, yes.
SPEAKER_00And it puffs it up. It's okay, yeah. Soft chew candy. You know, you can do Skittles, you can do anything like that and make it uh it's good. Lemon drops, you can, you know, uh he has peach candy, he has lime, he has all kinds of stuff. So it's good.
SPEAKER_01Something for everyone there. Something for everyone. So hey folks, you can go to the festival, you can go there uh to the flying peach barbecue on Saturday, and then Sunday morning, join Bert at Corinth Church.
SPEAKER_00That's it. And the one thing, uh, in the month of June, we have what we call the peach pageant, and we have the peach jam, and we have a peach parade. Uh uh, so we have that during the summertime. Uh, but in in the end of June and sometimes into July, we'll have, you know, uh all kinds of festivals going on in our community about, of course, you know, everybody's favorite fruit, the peach.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay. Um, yeah, I've seen the the picture one time you put on with the big peach tower, the water tower. Yeah. We've got one down here too in South Carolina. Well, up here in South Carolina. Oh, we've got a big peach because I never knew, but we in South Carolina used to be big peach growers. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02That's good.
SPEAKER_01That you guys have taken over. That's good. Somebody has.
SPEAKER_00I can remember being a teenager, 13, 14, 15 years old, going out in the peach fields and peaching on the summertime to make a little pocket change. So okay.
SPEAKER_01Awesome. You you've always been a little industrious, haven't you?
SPEAKER_00Well, you know, that's true.
SPEAKER_01You've done all kinds of things.
SPEAKER_00You had to work for it. My mama was a single parent, so uh everything she made went to our, you know, taking care of us. But uh, me and my sister, we grew up, you know, if we wanted cash, we had to get out there, cut grass, or you know, do do our chores or go out there and find a little summer job here and there. So watermelon, hollering peaches, whatever. Whatever it was, you you had to do it.
SPEAKER_01Wow. And you weren't raised in church, were you, Bert?
SPEAKER_00No, I was not. Um, matter of fact, I did not go to church. My parents uh they went to church a little bit when they grew up, but my father was military. And by the time we moved back to Alabama, he had retired. And uh so uh by the age of 11, uh, well, 10 and 11, we moved back permanently in Chilton County. And um, so my life, uh that's where I grew up, you know. I was born in Texas because my dad was stationed out there. My sister was born in New London, Connecticut. But my oldest brother, uh, who's passed away now, has uh lived in Montgomery, Alabama. I mean, he was born in Montgomery. So we we were born all over, but we're all from here. We grew up here and you know we lived here and this is our life.
SPEAKER_01So But this earth is not our home, is it?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, no. I'm just passing through, as Billy Graham says.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're just passing through. Yeah. You want to tell just a short little uh snippet in case someone didn't see your first video about how you came to know the Lord personally?
SPEAKER_00Uh yes, I I try to do it as quick as possible. Uh like I said, I I grew up here without church, I didn't go to church. Um, and the word dysfunctional was very prevalent in my life growing up. So um by the time I was 22, I was on my, you know, doing my own thing. And uh I was invited to church by my cousin. And uh he grew up in church, got away from the church, and he started going back. So he invited me to a revival meeting uh at a small, well, at a country church here called Liberty Hill Baptist Church. And um, I went there for the first time on a Tuesday night, and the Lord came into my life, changed me forever. Um, there was no excuse. I started to, I surrendered my life that night, got saved, and my life hasn't changed. I mean, it has changed to the best ever since. Every day uh I've been walking with the Lord. Uh my pastor put the word of God in front of me, taught me, uh, showed me what it means to be a disciple, show me the word of God. Uh and you know, and just God every ever since then has led me to be a believer, uh, a follower of him, and to share.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, it says that we are new creations when we come to Jesus Christ. He makes us new. I am so thankful, right along with you, that he did. And I just realized when you were saying you were 22, I was uh 22 when the Lord first, when I know the Lord first started to draw me. I'm sure he did sooner, but that's when I first realized it. And then when I was 23 first uh then I accepted how you know that it's such an age because it's such an important age because, like you said, you're out of the home, you're starting your own little life. Right. And you we are so messed up sometimes as young people, especially. And we make such silly decisions, but God, all the time, he's talking, he's drawing us to him.
SPEAKER_00Well, see, like you said, we made silly decisions. Um as I was growing up, my family was uh affected by alcohol, and that's what I meant when we were talking about dysfunctional. Um, I had a brother, my father, and myself, we all became addicted to alcohol. And uh at the age of uh 21, we all ended up, myself, my dad, and my brother ended up in the same rehab for a short period of time. And because of that, I had a person that was in the rehab who was trying to, you know, counsel with us. She told me she's a bird, I love you. And I thought she was hitting on me. But I said, What's this? And she said, You don't understand. She said, I love you in a spiritual way, not a physical way. And I said, spiritual way. She said, Yes, all of us are spiritual beings. And through that, um, they shared with me the serenity prayer. And the serenity prayer was my very first prayer ever as a person. As a my grandmother tried to teach me the Lord's Prayer when I was a kid growing up, uh, both of my grandmothers. Um, but when it the prayer that I remember and I still go to every so often is the serenity prayer. And um I I say that over and over, and uh and that's what turned me towards God. God used that for about nine months until I ended up at that revival on that Tuesday, and uh I've been saved ever since.
SPEAKER_01So can you share that serenity prayer with our listeners today?
SPEAKER_00I would love to. I it's just to me, I just knew the first four verses. I know there's a longer, but it said, God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, and the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Oh I said that over and over every day for about nine months until I surrendered to Christ. Uh that was that and the I had a book that I got from Al Anon. I don't know if anybody knows what Al-Anon is. Al-Anon is a support group just like Alcoholics Anonymous. Uh it's a 12-step program, but it's for people who uh have family members that are alcoholics. Al-Anon is for the support, the the family members who are going through it together, but they're not the ones that the alcoholic. But yet but yet they're still affected by the alcoholic. They're still what they say in Al Anon is um you have the same disease, but a different, you play a different part. And you need Jesus too, you need God. And because of the 12-step program, um the last step being the spiritual awakening part of it, I was able to, once I gave my life to the Lord, that was my go-to. That was my uh, that was the stepping stone that God put in my in place for me. And I didn't have to go through the 12-step program anymore. I just used that to get in when once I got in church, that became my place of comfort, peace, um, reality, whatever you want to call it. That was it. Um, so that that it all started with me starting to say the serenity prayer. Yes, and it's uh I've me being saved, God, you know, giving me more than peace, giving me eternal life, uh uh radically changing me, transforming my heart, my mind, and everything about me.
SPEAKER_01So hope in a future, you know, he promises that hope and future.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, and I have I have eternal life. Uh I've never doubted that in my whole, you know. Um, you know, Satan tries to throw doubt everywhere, but when it comes to salvation, I knew I was saved.
SPEAKER_01Amen. Yeah. And now tell us today you are pre you you are the pastor of a church, right? You also have a YouTube channel and a radio spot. So can you tell us about that?
SPEAKER_00I do. Uh, there is a place called Southeastern Radio. Uh a gentleman that uh is local, he has an internet radio. Uh, it is for all amateur radio, uh, all genres. He does gospel, he does rock and roll, he does um jazz, he does country, um, just any kind of music, you know, amateur people can come and and have their music play in on the radio. Um, you can have a podcast with him or anything. So I do a podcast every day, words of encouragement. Uh, do it because I was involved with another radio station, uh, a local radio station in town. Um, and uh uh yeah, it's called Piper Peach Radio. That's how we met. And uh so the Lord has blessed me many times over um with that. So um it gave me the opportunity to share Jesus every day on uh in the in the world of radio and internet, and so when I did started doing my Facebook uh live at church, I was able to download them and put them on YouTube. So, you know, everybody gets to hear. Everybody uh I'm doing my part. And uh I keep telling my my family, I said, if if I'm dead and gone and the good Lord's taking taking me home, you can look me up on YouTube and find, you know, yeah, hear me.
SPEAKER_01And you were telling me earlier about somebody who got to watch one of your uh videos like four years later. Right to hear the message.
SPEAKER_00I've been doing it since um uh uh COVID, you know, every week. I don't know, I've got two 200 or 230 videos on there. So I've done you know, as many as I can have recorded, and there are some weekends I couldn't record because of bad reception, but um everyone that gets recorded, they get downloaded. And I've had people come back and say, Hey, I just listened to one that you did four years ago or two years ago or last week or whatever. And I say, Well, uh, if you are you getting anything out of it, and you know, you know, it it helps. And uh it ain't me, uh it's that God uses it. And uh Yeah, yeah, that that's right.
SPEAKER_01That's what I was gonna say. It the word is truth and it's eternal. So the same thing it was able to do when you spoke it and recorded it will be the same for that moment.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, oh yeah. So that's it it's a blessing. It's a blessing. I enjoy doing it, I enjoy sharing the gospel. And you know, being being limited, and I can't go as like I used to. Um I can do a message like on these platforms and share the gospel, and that's my heart's desire.
SPEAKER_01That's definitely the heart of an evangelist and a pastor. You got both of them because you're as you know, you understand people, and yet it is in your heart that we are those ambassadors of reconciliation and tell about Christ. He is the center of life. How how can um they how can people reach you on that? Is it I I'm sorry, I didn't write it down. The the the program you have now that you're on, a radio internet program?
SPEAKER_00It's on uh you can find it on Rumble. Rumble, okay. Uh you can find, but if you want to look it up on the internet, uh it's an internet radio. Uh it's southeastern. Let me make sure, dash radio.org.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. And I'll be sure to put that in the notes so that people can can go there and listen to you.
SPEAKER_00The gentleman that is involved with that, his name is Lynn Wilson, and he's the one that has gotten it started, and he's the one that's doing it. He's telling me, do whatever you want on the gospel side. I said, okay. So it, you know, we're trying to get other um podcasts, we're trying to get other people, uh, just to let people know that hey, they got a they got a platform, and um, we can do it just like I do, because uh every day when I uh do I I do a rumble, uh Southeastern radio on Rumble uh on the gospel streaming side. I I goes to Rumble, it goes to Facebook, and then we put it on uh YouTube on Southeastern Radio.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Oh, okay. They have do they have their own station then on YouTube, their own channel on YouTube?
SPEAKER_00Southeastern radio does, and I have my one and you have your own, Bert Tippett.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Okay on YouTube.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's it. Can you give a word? You know, now I listen to this one gentleman who has a podcast and he calls it clown world, that we are living in clown world. Crazy times. Can you give it a word of encouragement to someone who doesn't know the Lord? Okay, tell us what you say. A person doesn't know the Lord, they're like all upset with the the way the world is today, go for it.
SPEAKER_00Well, this is what I would say. First of all, you're a part of the world and so am I. And first thing we all need to remember is that we do have someone that loves us more than our parents, more than the person that we uh have in life that loves us. And and we he loves us so much that he died on a cross for us. And it might have been 2,000 years ago, it might be what you call religion, but it's a true person, a person that will change your life, and his name is Jesus. And I always go to John 3:16, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. And that everlasting life begins today, it doesn't begin when you die. You have res you have benefit when you leave this world, and that benefit is being in his presence for eternity with him. But today, you can have an abundant life, you can have a better life, you can have even if you go through terrible thing things in life, you know, everybody goes through circumstances. We have we have disease, we have, you know, we have um we have trouble in our world, you know. You can look at the world's uh uh stage right now, it's just chaotic. Uh people are turning away from God or false religions everywhere. We either stay the course. Once you have a relationship with Jesus, he'll get you through any circumstances in life. Because why? Because he loves you, because God loves you, and he gave his life for us to have a better life, to have a transformed life, to have the light of the world living inside of us that changes us every day. And that light wants to shine through you. It's like you're you're have you ever seen on a cartoon, you'll see these characters, and all of a sudden they have light beams going through their eyeballs, their ears, and the nose. Well, that's the way God is. He wants his glory to shine through us all. And we do that by listening. And if there's anybody out there right now that is discouraged, yes, you know, you may have heard it. You may have had people, you know, try to tell you, I'm telling you, if you're discouraged, you can find courage. You can find your you can find the find out that Jesus does love you, that he cares for you, genuinely cares for your being, your your life, and everything about you. There's nothing that he wouldn't do to change you. You can ask him anything. He said, if you ask, you shall receive. And the reason we don't have is because we don't receive, you know, we don't ask God. Uh we go to different sources in the world, but we need to ask God uh to direct us, to lead us, to love on us, to encourage us, to forgive us. We all need forgiving. And uh it's all about his grace, his amazing grace. I can talk about his amazing grace every day. Uh, there's nothing. I don't deserve it. I mean, but he gives it to me.
SPEAKER_01None of us do. Yeah, none of us do. Paul said, you know, of the, you know, uh, you know, the the people who've done things wrong, you know, he said, I'm the biggest one. These persecuted Christians. I'm looking up, I I have, I have a new Bible here, and and it the print is so small, I'm gonna look it up on my phone. First Corinthians 13, because that's what a lot of people call the love chapter.
SPEAKER_00Right.
SPEAKER_01And I mean, you may know it by heart. I don't know it by heart, but that is that is love, and you know, God is love. And I'm gonna read this scripture while we're talking here. All of 1 Corinthians 13 is awesome, but I'm gonna go especially to start with verse four. Love suffers long, love is kind, love envies not, love vaunteth not itself, it's not puffed up or boastful, love does not behave itself unseemingly, love does not seek its own, is not easily provoked, thinks no evil, love does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth. Love bears all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never fails.
SPEAKER_00Amen.
SPEAKER_01And God is love, He is all those things toward us.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. Yeah, and um you can experience, I can experience anybody can experience the love of Christ once they believe in him and repent of their sins. What I mean turn from their way of thinking, their way of life, and just surrender and surrender to your Savior, surrender your will, your purpose, your direction in Christ Jesus. Call on his name, his name changes everything. There's nothing more powerful than the name of Jesus. There's no other name in heaven or above that's or even in the world, other than the name of Jesus that can save a person is is Jesus. And I mean, if you want to break up a bad conversation, start just singing amazing grace, start singing about Jesus, just start just, you know, make a joyful noise in the Lord. Uh, I promise you, uh, when you start quoting the name of Jesus, uh, people are gonna listen or they may run. But you know, the name Jesus puts a face on God, and um He changes, He changes everything.
SPEAKER_01And it says in the word that at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He's the Lord. I love it. We can do it on this side or we can do it on the other side, but we've got to do it on this side if we want to go to the right side.
SPEAKER_00But you gotta remember, every knee is gonna bow. That's right, is gonna come confess it, and uh that's what I tell people. Uh, you know, I did a sermon a couple years ago uh in the graveyard, and uh I was on my golf cart uh a year or so ago, and I went to the graveyard, and the Lord spoke to me and he said, You know, every person out here in that graveyard, uh, they're a believer. Now, where they're at is their decision because every one of them is a believer. Uh, every grave is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, uh, whether they're in heaven or hell. But you will confess him. Woo! Girl, you can get to preaching.
SPEAKER_01I would love it, but you know what, Bert, we've talked almost another half hour.
SPEAKER_00Oh my goodness, we have. We have. We're gonna have to do it again uh later on.
SPEAKER_01So we can talk and talk and talk about the Lord because he is so good and he loves us so much, and he has put that, like you said. I love the analogy about the cartoons with the light that shines out. That's what he does. It says, out of our innermost being, rivers of living water will flow.
SPEAKER_00Oh, absolutely.
SPEAKER_01And they flow from his throne to us and to others.
SPEAKER_00That's it, that's it. We're an overflowing vessel, that's what we are. Well, we may be a crackpot. Sometimes people say that, but hey, hey, when we're a crackpot, everything flows out.
SPEAKER_01So let it there you go, and it waters. You're right. Oh, it is so wonderful to talk with you, Bert. And I'm so glad that everybody joined us today on Under Heaven Podcasts. And yes, hey, come back anytime because like you, I love to talk about Jesus. And I think most of the people out here do too. So y'all have a wonderful day. Remember to speak life, choose hope, and that you are always loved. Thank you, Bert. Thank you, everybody. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER_00God bless.
