My cofounder and I reflect on the harsh realities of displacement. Families forced to flee in the middle of the night with nothing but the children they can carry, and the impossible task of rebuilding in a new land with no documents, no safety net, and no time to prepare.
This is part one of a two-part series where we reflect on our work with our nonprofit, Allies to Refugees, and the stories that have shaped our mission.
We dedicate this episode to Ep 2, the tribute to journalist Anas Al-Sharif, whose final words reminded us of the power of truth-telling, and who gave his life so that the world would not look away. His sacrifice calls us to community, to hold his family close, and to carry forward the stories he risked everything to share.
In his honor, we are raising funds for his cousin, Bahaa, who is facing the very same struggles of survival and displacement that Anas so bravely documented. Together, we can be part of the community that surrounds his family in love and support.
