Opening Banter And Show Setup

SPEAKER_00

The games, the games, the games, the games, the games, the games, games, games. I'm Victoria.

SPEAKER_04

I'm Giovanna.

SPEAKER_00

The game's on. Welcome back to another episode of your favorite football podcast by the girls for everyone, the game. We are so excited to be here and chat with you about Thanksgiving. Chat with you about all things week 13. I think we have so many things that we want to talk about today. So let's just get into it. Giovanna, you said you wanted to start with the Cowboys Eagles game. So let's go.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_04

Let me let me take it back in time real quick. November 23rd, Cowboys beat the Eagles. I said this on our snap happen chat. I was like, the Eagles haven't been playing that well. Good W for the for the Cowboys, but I wasn't like super, I wasn't gonna go say like the Cowboys are doing amazing.

Cowboys Upset Streak And Defense Identity

SPEAKER_01

Then November 27th, the Cowboys at home on Thanksgiving, defeat Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Rasheed Rice, and the Chiefs.

SPEAKER_04

I was astonished. This game, I've often, I think I said in our subscription chat as well. I was like, I don't know. Chiefs came out hot. They got a touchdown. I was like, guys, it's not looking so hot. I'm always like the first hater of the Cowboys, even though I'm a lover of the Cowboys. And then they're playing out of their minds. Dakota, Dakota Prescott. I am so proud of you playing out of your minds. And not only on the offensive side of the ball, I feel like our defense is starting to like take form. And I know you said like trading away Micah was a mistake, but this is what Jerry Jones does. He makes risky moves and sometimes it ends up working out. Because I think everyone thought that we were going to get an edge for a for our defensive line to kind of replace Micah, someone coming off the edge to get pressure on the cornerback. But instead we get Quinn Williams, who's an amazing guy, and he's a really, really key factor to be in that middle defensive line of the fence topping the run. He's a really great leader culturally. And so I think he's been a big part of why this Cowboys defense has been way better than usual. And we've gotten some key players back from injury. So and then you look at the stat, I bring up the dates because November 23rd to November 27th, that's four days. Four days. In four days, the Cowboys beat both teams that were in the Super Bowl. Insane in four days. Then this week they go and play the Lions on Thursday night football again. So I'm very excited to see what happens. I know the Lions as of lately have uh been a little bit disappointing, but I don't know. I'm kind of I'm excited for that game. I really am. We're in Detroit, so it'll be interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I feel like the scariest thing about that game is momentum from the Cowboys and no momentum from the Lions. The Lions had Amin Rah St. Brown score zero fantasy points because he had gone out with an ankle injury this week. And that's bad for the Lions because Aminrah St.

Lions Concerns And Amon-Ra Injury Fallout

SPEAKER_00

Brown is such a pivotal part of what they're doing over there. And so to not have him as a part of their offensive weapons. And I mean, I praise the Lions all the time for having multiple players that they can throw to run with. Like they're very dynamic on offense. But Amon Raw is such a huge part of that. And I think that they're beaten down a little bit. We also had the false alarm with Frank Ragnow coming back out of retirement, didn't pass his physical. So I'm wondering what's going on there. I don't know what a physical for the NFL looks like, but I assume that it's more in depth than a regular physical. But I think that was a lot of excitement. And then to have that kind of come crashing down is a little painful for the Lions. So I'm nervous about yeah, the cowboys playing so well. Also, you said Dakota, and I was like, who is Dakota? Like, I don't know who Dakota is.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, call him by his government name whenever he's doing really good.

SPEAKER_00

Fair. Yeah. So there was a so one of the uh teams did a TikTok where they called everyone by their government name, like first, middle, and last. And that was so funny. So yeah, I love that. But Dak is playing now like he is the highest paid quarterback in the league, as he should be, because he doesn't always play like the highest paid quarterback in the league, but they do have some momentum. And I'm not a huge Jerry Jones fan overall. I'm just not really a fan of any overly outspoken older person with really harsh views in the media. I just don't think it's cute. I think it's a bad look. I think that being overly harsh in overgeneralized statements online is just not a cute look. So I'm not a huge Jerry Jones fan, but you can't deny what the Cowboys franchise has been over time in terms of like culture and in terms of like utilizing their money fairly well. You know, they did have Micah Parsons for a while. They do have Dak Prescott, and they have been popular for so long and kept their community really engaged. So even though I'm not like a Jerry Jones fan, one-on-one, Jerry Jones has been successful and not had his head called for. I guess he has probably many times, but I don't know. I think that what they have going on over there is really interesting, especially right now. And I think that if there was a year for the Cowboys to make a comeback, it's this year because the rest of the league is like all over the place.

SPEAKER_04

What is happening? All over the place.

SPEAKER_00

Literally, what is happening? This is it's flatter paint.

SPEAKER_04

I I saw like looking at the

Eagles Wobble, Media Pressure, And NFC Chaos

SPEAKER_04

NFC division and like looking at the Cowboys specifically and like where we're at. It was like in the NFC East, it was like the Cowboys are playing like the Eagles, the Eagles are playing like the Giants, and then the Giants are the Giants, and then the commanders are injury prone right now. Well, they don't have other quarterbacks. So I was like, it's like a toss-up right now, which I feel like is the storyline of a lot of different divisions, yeah, across the NFC and the AFC, which we'll get into. But I know I'm excited. Like, I'm when I tell you about watching that game on Thanksgiving, I was like, oh my gosh, here we go, guys. Like, I can't watch. But I was like, I I don't think I've been that excited to watch the Cowboys play in a very long time, especially coming off of beating the Chiefs. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's just like the Thanksgiving game. And so my family had our first football Thanksgiving ever. So that was super exciting and fun for us. So I'm in Dallas. My sister lives here, and so we decided to go to the Cowboys game at Cowboys Stadium. There's Texas Live, which is like a huge bar scene with like massive TVs right outside Cowboys Stadium. So you can basically go there. A lot of people will go there like pregame, before the game, and then walk in. And we decided to just like hang out there. We were gonna get standing room tickets for like 350 bucks, and we're like, let's just not. But that atmosphere was insane. And it was so fun watching football on Thanksgiving. Once I became a Lions fan, I would watch it with my ex-boyfriend. I was like, what should I name this? But whatever. And his family on Thanksgiving. But then my family this year was like, let's go to the game. And it was so, so fun. So Lions lost, and that was trash and a half. But overall, it was super fun to be like in that environment and have my whole family into it. So the Cowboys now are sitting behind the Eagles in the NFC East. Eagles are now eight and four. Cowboys are now six and five. And the Eagles were hanging out in that kind of top spot. A lot of the media has been saying that the Eagles are like a ticking time bomb, House of Cards.

SPEAKER_04

We've talked about just lost to the Bears. Yeah, they're a ticking time bomb.

SPEAKER_00

The Eagles are in a bad spot. I don't think that we would be talking about the Eagles in the way that we're talking about them if AJ Brown wasn't being outspoken in the media, though. Because I think that him speaking out in the media has led us into their back office in a way that we maybe wouldn't normally be like clued into the back office. And I don't think that we would be having the kind of conversations we're having without AJ Brown being a little bit outspoken. So that's really interesting to me. But I think regardless, like the fact that a player is speaking out or has previously, and then lost to the Cowboys, lost to the Bears. But I think the loss to the Bears feels dramatic, but I think that it shouldn't. Because even if the Bears had lost to the Eagles, they would have the same record. Because the Bears right now are nine and three. So I feel like we, because the Bears got Ben Johnson as their new coach, because the Bears have like over the last couple of years kind of sucked and just been like a little irrelevant. I think that like everyone still has the mindset that the Bears aren't good. Yeah. But the Bears are nine and three, which is better than the Bucks, which is the same as the Rams, same as the Seahawks. I mean, 49ers have an extra loss in there, but better than the Bills, better than the Ravens, better than the Jags, not as good as the Broncos, but like Chargers are eight and four. So the Bears, I feel like we're talking about them as they're not good, as if we're we keep being surprised. But how many weeks do we need to see them win to stop being surprised?

SPEAKER_04

Well, I think it's simply the fact of like Caleb Williams coming off the season he had last season compared to this season has been night and day. Yeah. Which is, which is, I feel like Caleb Williams had a lot of pressure on him from people like me included, because you're comparing him constantly. From people like me. I can be honest, guys, but you're comparing him constantly to Jaden Daniels, who had an amazing season with the Commanders and Dan Quinn, which we'll get into a little bit later in the episode. But the the comparison between those two core backs of Caleb being chosen number one and Jaden being chosen number two has always been like this weird thing. And I think when Caleb didn't live up to those expectations that we always talk about, it's it was it was a little like rattling, but then you get Ben Johnson, that chemistry. Honestly, I thought that chemistry was going to take a season to settle in, to figure out, but now they're they're turning it around. I think in the beginning of the season they were going through their growing pains, but now the Bears have been playing really, really well. Have to give a shout out to one of the running backs, Kyle Manunga. He's been playing very, very well for the Bears. He had a touchdown, he 130 yards, 22 carries in the Eagles game. So have a shout out to him. But to your point about the Eagles, though, yes, we wouldn't have been talking about them because of AJ Brown, but also Staple and Barclay came off of a record-breaking season. And then to have the season that they're having now, that's a big, big, big storyline. And not to not to forget, they're the Super Bowl champions. So whenever a Super Bowl champion like fall has this dramatic of a fall from grace, like I don't think anyone expects, I mean the Chiefs are the Chiefs, but I don't think anyone expects you to consistently go back to back in Super Bowls, like, but you're going to get close enough, like you're gonna get in the playoffs. But to have the Eagles have this dramatic fall from grace and how they're playing right now, I think is the one of the other reasons why everyone's like, oh my gosh, what what's happening?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, that's true. And I feel like because they're they're doing like okay gameplay kind of across the board, and then that plus media is like no wonder we're calling them a ticking time bomb. Yeah. Because like if you're playing, like okay doesn't win Super Bowls.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, exactly. Exactly.

SPEAKER_00

It just doesn't. Yeah. Okay, before we're gonna do today our favorite game and favorite play of the week from both Giovanna and I. But before we get to that, I want to talk about one of my highlights of the season, which was the Jets winning yesterday. And I'm like, I have no stake in the Jets, except that like I have family members and friends

Jets Win Joy And Rams Comparison Deep Dive

SPEAKER_00

who are Jets fans. But that game was so exciting and like fun to watch. And I just want Aaron Glen to win. And so seeing them win was like so dramatic and fun. And, you know, they beat the Falcons, who at whatever Falcons, but but still I loved like I loved watching the Jets win. I thought it was really, really fun. And then I got curious and I was like, how bad are the Jets? Right, because like everyone set. Also, my favorite thing to talk about, you guys know is that I called that the Panthers were actually kind of good. And look at them now. And it's my favorite thing to brag about, but I was like, I kind of feel off of vibes alone that the Jets aren't as bad as we say they are. So I pulled regular season stats from the Jets and from the Rams, who we'll obviously get into when we talk commanders and Rams in a couple minutes. But Jets have 206 total first downs, Rams have 269, so that's rough. Third down conversions. This is feels painful when you say it out loud, but 59 out of 158. And I thought that sounds bad, but the Rams are 49 for 126 on third down conversion. So I was like, okay. Fourth down conversions, the Jets are 11 of 23, so somewhere in the high 30s, 40% there. And the Rams are 13 of 19, so significantly higher there. And then we get into total offensive yards. And this one is really where you see what's going on here. Total offensive yards, 3366 for the Jets, and for the Rams, 4321. So a thousand extra yards on the Rams this season than the Jets. But then we get a little interesting. All right. So that's clear. Like if we go just straight to touchdowns, 25 touchdowns for the Jets and 43 touchdowns for the Rams, objectively, one of the worst teams and one of the best teams, 18 touchdown difference. That's a lot of points. That makes sense that the Jets have lost so many, so many games. But then we get into rushing yards. Jets have 1604 rushing yards, and the Rams have 1362. So the Jets are beating out the Rams in rushing yards. So the Rams are just like Matt Stafford is just so much of a better passer and converter. And it's like almost like, what if Puka did a little stint? Puka Nakua, wide receiver for the Rams, one of the best wide receivers in the league, young wide receivers, just absolutely dominating, had a one-handed catch yesterday. It was insane. But what if we just plopped Puka like onto the Jets? Like, what would it look like if they truly had like a star, star, star quality wide receiver? And are they going to pick one up? Are they going to look for either a wide receiver coach that can produce in the offseason, or are they going to try and draft a wide receiver very quickly to fill in that gap of, you know, kind of like passing yards and offensive yards in general. And then lastly, on field goals, Jets are 22 of 23, which is awesome. Rams are 12 of 17 for field goals, which is wild. And then Saks Jets have 41. Rams have 17. So I can report that those numbers kind of show exactly what's going on. But I think like I'm really curious to watch off season strategy, knowing that their inability to make a pass and complete passes. And that's partially due to quarterback issues, Justin Fields issues, Justin Fields injury issues. But Tyrod Taylor had a decent game yesterday and they won. So I thought that was interesting to kind of look in deep dive, Jets versus Rams, what the heck is actually going on.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think too, when you look at the running game, and I kind of talked about this a couple episodes ago, but the Rams are built as a pass first offense. They're not built as run first offense. The Jets are built as run first offense and not pass first offense. And that's mainly because they have one of the best running backs in the league in Greece. Probably top 10 running back in the league. So when you have Greece Hall, you're gonna give he's gonna at least finish the game with at least one touchdown every single time. Versus like the Rams, Puka

Scheme Talk: Run-First Jets, Pass-First Rams

SPEAKER_04

Nakua is gonna finish with at least two touchdowns every single game. So just different play calling, different teams, different strategies. But a loss of the Falcons. Now, yeah, Kirk Cousins is playing for the Falcons, which is their backup technically. So it was kind of two backups that are taking over both teams right now, going against each other. But this is the one game I did not watch on Sunday because it was the least interesting to me on paper. So I'm glad to hear from you that it turned out to at least be an interesting game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. And I think, you know, one of the reasons why I like started this show in the first place is I love just like the vibe of different people and different coaches. And like I half watch for like the game, and I like half-watch for like the vibes and the fun and to like chit-chat and like gossip about who we like and don't like. And I just I just really want to see the Jets. I would love to see a Jets like massive comeback. And I really thought that Justin Fields and Aaron Glenn together were the key. And so to not see that happen is like a bummer. But I think that like everyone had that like hope. And now that that hope is dead, I think that Aaron Glenn is gonna do what Aaron Glenn was trained to do with Ben Johnson and with Dan Campbell at the Lions and just like dig his heels in and rebuild. But I do like a win for them because I like them to build a little bit of confidence, as we're talking about with the Cowboys, like momentum matters in this league, and we see momentum matter often.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, and surprisingly, the Jets are still in playoff contention, despite their record. Teams that are officially eliminated from playoff contention are the Titans, the Saints, the Giants, the Raiders, and the Cardinals. So those teams have no chance of making it to the playoffs. They are pretty much in Cabo already on vacation. So it'll be interesting to see. I think the Jets and the Dolphins are kind of and the Falcons, honestly, are next on that topping block. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Honestly, that's karma for the Falcons.

SPEAKER_04

And Bijan Robinson is like, I okay. Bijan Robinson, there's okay, when you draft him in fantasy, like the number the top three picks are like they're gone to like heavy hitters. Bijan Robinson has one playing. He has really great games, and like there's games that's like the brother's supposed to give me 30 points. Why are you giving me 30 points? But to top it off, Vikings come to the front real quick. Justin Jefferson finished six targets, two receptions, four yards. That's what he finished with in this last game for the Vikings. He Justin Jefferson has had nine quarterbacks, nine quarterbacks thrown to him in his career, which is insane when you think about it, because that means nine different times in your career that you've been trying to figure it out with a guy that quarterback. So the Vikings, Kevin O'Connell had go to the Vikings, y'all need to figure out your quarterback situation because you're wasting Justin Jefferson's talent. Justin Jefferson, my PSA message to you, get out of there. Go time to wrap it up. It's time like the Vikings are not doing any favors right now. It is we've seen it time and time again. The Vikings have done made some really vibrative decisions on quarterbacks. I mean, they could have drafted the Knicks, they could have, they let Daniel Jones walk out the door, they rejected Aaron Rodgers, like they had offered the movies.

SPEAKER_00

And that was where where do you want to see Justin Jefferson go?

SPEAKER_04

Oh, are you ready to say Josh Allen? Congratulations. Josh Allen and Jay Jettis. Guys, that's scary. That is scary. The Bills need a receiver. The Bills have the capability of going and snagging a guy like Justin Jefferson. Will it happen? I don't even know what his contract situation looks like, so I don't even know if this is possible. But the power of the Bills, you need receivers. You need a star receiver at that. There's a star receiver that needs a really good quarterback right now.

SPEAKER_00

That's really interesting to me because I think the just I like I love Justin Jefferson. He obviously hands down one of the best receivers in the league. As you said, like not getting utilized. His potential is like basically just Justin. I'm sorry, but it's like it is wasting away. It's like and it like the numbers really show that. That's not opinion, that's fact at this point. And I'm like curious to know, yeah, would would he fit in with the Bills with that like team? Because I see the Bills are like the Bills from the outside are like a pretty boy team. You know, like Josh Allen isn't like a

Vikings Frustrations And Justin Jefferson’s Future

SPEAKER_00

dirty quarterback. Like he plays well, he plays fairly clean. There's nothing. I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

What do you think? It's actually funny you say that because Cam Hayward and the Bills and the Steelers game, apparently Josh Allen need him in the stomach.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_04

And Cam Hayward was upset about it. And so after the game in the locker room, Cam Hayward was like, yeah, I didn't like that. That was un that was not cool because quarterbacks are protected and we're not. So like he can do that and we're not. And then in the press conference with Josh Allen, they asked him about it and he was like, Yeah, you know, Cam's a really good player. I love the confidence he has and I love the competitiveness because that's what makes this game the game. That's what gets me fired up. And I think that's what got me really going in the game. So it was just like two different stories, but like kind of like classiness versus not. But the reason why I think Justin Jefferson would fit on the bills is because I honestly, and like I need to go back and watch some more clips on him on the sideline. But when you have a stat line like that, you are clearly frustrated. And Justin Jefferson deserves the right to be a diva because he's just he's the best receiver in the league. So and I'm I'm thinking of like guys like George Pickens and and some other guys who have crash outs on the sideline, AJ Brown, but they're not getting targeted, they're not getting, you know, they're not finishing with the numbers they want, they're not getting their game checks. And Justin Jefferson is not doing that. Like you can see he's visibly frustrated, but he kind of just goes to the sidelines to like wipe his face, and like he'll just like sit there and like you can tell he's like gutted, but he's not having to crash out. Yeah. And so because he kind of had that stature about himself and because he handled himself well on the sidelines, I think that shows a lot of how his character is. And for that reason, I think he can fit in on literally any team.

SPEAKER_00

I think you're right. Like the more that I think about it, also, like when he's winning and like not just winning games, but when he's getting to play, literally, that's what I mean. Like when he's playing, he is like such a smiley guy. And in the face of adversity, he is like a class act. And I think that like he's more, he's flashier, but he I don't think that he's over. I think he's flashy, but not overconfident. Like the more that this is like running in my head, I'm like, actually, Josh Allen and Justin Jefferson could be like the cutest besties.

SPEAKER_01

They could.

SPEAKER_00

Like, could you imagine their smiles next to each other after a win?

SPEAKER_04

Wait, that'd be a dream team. I am I can I manifest that, please? Can I please manifest Justin Jefferson going to the Bills?

SPEAKER_00

No, actually, I I okay. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm like, I actually love it. I actually love it.

SPEAKER_04

It would take a lot though. It would take a lot. It would like it would take an act of God. Because there's no way the Vikings are letting go of him. But maybe if he demands, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03

I know, but they need to. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Last thing on this is I think before, did I say the the Falcons? That's karma on the Falcons. Because I meant that's karma on the Cardinals from their coach hitting their player, only getting a small fine. We've never spoken about it again. It's an issue to me. I will not let it go. And that is automatic karma because if you think that you can go and be physically violent, even if it's you don't see, even if like people don't see it as like violent, a player cannot hit a coach. And players cannot hit each other on the sidelines just to hit each other because they're mad. If you're mad, sit down and go to therapy. You cannot hit your players. It is the most disgusting thing that I have seen all season. And we saw Cam Scattaboo's leg get freaking ripped to shreds. And that is my least favorite part of the entire season. And I cannot believe that we are not talking about it more. And this is why we need more women in sports, because this is an actual problem. And that is why you didn't make it to the playoffs. Because if you are nasty, you do not go far. And that's a fact. And I will not let it go until now because we have to move on.

SPEAKER_04

And that was Victoria's rant for the day.

SPEAKER_00

And that's my first rant of the day.

SPEAKER_04

Oh the first one.

SPEAKER_00

Because I have more. I have more.

SPEAKER_04

Speaking of Camp Scottaboo, I saw a TikTok video. I think it was from his girlfriend, and she was like videoing him. It was like a vlog of like his week of him like recovering and doing. I cannot imagine living with that man. He is like genuinely hilarious. And like he looks like he's already like he was hitting, he was hitting stuff. He was running into stuff with a little scooter. And their comments are like, All right, Cam looks good. See you back out on the field, week 13, buddy.

SPEAKER_00

I saw I saw a video of him too. Like, I think it was on his story or something. But he's like flexing and pointing his toe, being like, We're back,

Sideline Standards, Coaching Culture, And Accountability

SPEAKER_00

we're so back.

SPEAKER_04

It is hilarious. So I'm glad he's like still remaining positive through the injury because that's gonna help him heal so much faster and like just be confident in himself when he does come back. So that's really it's really good to see for Giants fans, too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, for sure.

SPEAKER_04

That's good.

SPEAKER_00

For sure. Okay, totally random side note before we go into games of the week and plays of the week. Shout out to the hot moms of Dallas because when I was at the game, we did like two interviews, like super quick. My cousin went with me and we met these, I think it was six women. And I said, Can I interview you? And she says, Yeah, we're the hot moms of Dallas. And these were all moms, like dressed up. They looked so cute, they were so nice. And at the end of the interview, which is great, and we are editing at the moment to put up, but at the end, they were like, Do you want to come to our tailgate? And we were like, Yeah. And so we went to their tailgate, and I kid you, Najiavana, this is some of the best food I have ever had in my life. They were like, grab a plate, they had, I think it was turkey legs. I didn't eat that, but I did have a seafood bake, macaroni, the mac and cheese at this tailgate. Honestly, it was crazy. So the girls, the hot moms of Dallas, find them on our Instagram in the next couple of weeks. But the food, unbelievable. The vibes, unbelievable. I meet these women and they're also like, oh yeah, we're the hot moms. And I was like, Where's your like kids and family? I'm like, what's up? And they're like, oh, they're with our husbands. And I was like, King husbands, the best food I've ever freaking had. Like, actually, that food is in the top, I'm gonna say 10, but I venture to say five, top five side dishes of my life at this tailgate. And they had the whole setup, and all of their kids had the cutest little bows in their hair. It was insane. So I just wanted to shout them out because they were just so nice. And we talked to one of the girls' moms, and she was just so fabulous. And we talked about dating, and she was just the best. So shout out to them. I honestly like I wish that everyone could have been in that conversation. And like, I wish we could have mic'd ourselves up because she Just had like the best advice, and she was just so so lovely, and yeah, it was crazy. So, anyway, shout out to you guys. Moving on, let's do play of the game first or play of the week. Do you have yours?

SPEAKER_04

I do. I think ours might be the same.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, okay. I I kind of have three, but I'll pick one. So you can pick one and I'll pick one.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I kind of have two and they're both catches, but I'll I'll start with ooh, because greatness recognizes great. Okay, I have to say them both really quickly. So the first one, Hookanaku's catch, was insane. And mind you, I was I was actually listening to a couple of different broadcasters break this play down. So the guy that was defending Puka did everything right. Like textbook, beautiful, did everything right in terms of like turning your hips, looking for the ball, not getting a pass interference ball. He did everything right. Yeah. But Puka quite literally goes across, like he snatches the ball across his body and then pulls it in. And the defenders in front of Puka, which in reality, sometimes it should be flipped. Like your receiver should have a step or two on your defender, but it wasn't. Puka was behind the defender,

Tailgate Stories And Community Vibes

SPEAKER_04

and the ball gets kind of thrown right honestly in the breadbasket of the defender. And Luca's like, nope, snatching that, I'm getting it back. My second one is Traylon Burks and the overtime thrill of commander's game versus the Broncos. Traylon Burks has an insane one-handed catch that was just like Odell Beckham Jr.'s catch a couple of years ago, literally one-handed behind his back. And like it was just beautiful. Like all the pictures I'm seeing. I'm like, this is what makes the NFL so cool because these man, these man, these men are these men are so athletic and it blows my mind. I'm like, I just can't get my mind. Like you, you're defying gravity, and that's on Wicked. That's on Wicked.

SPEAKER_00

We want to thank our fabulous sponsor, Kusos. You guys hear about them every single week, but we love them and we're super grateful that they are a part of our journey here at The Game. They have bold flavor-pack seasonings. I just started meal prepping again, and I am not a meal prep queen, okay? I meal prep as often as I can, but honestly, never enough. And Kusos makes it just so much easier than it would be otherwise because I'm pretty lazy about it. So I'm just so grateful that they have seasonings that like make my food taste better. It's perfect for game days because it is so flavorful. You can add some of the seasonings to the rims of your drinks, and it's super clean ingredients. And as I told you, I had acid reflux recently. And so having Kusos with my salmon and my Brussels sprouts and my rice last night was so ideal because I knew that it wasn't gonna upset my stomach. I knew that I was in the clear, and I knew that I was gonna wake up today feeling super hot, snatched, healthy, great as you always want to. So thank you, Kusos. If you want 10% off your order, type in code the game at checkout. You can also go to kusocuts.com slash thegame and it will automatically apply your discount and supports us. So we really appreciate you guys checking them out. They're lovely. So thanks, Kusos, for sponsoring. Okay, so Puka's one-hander is in there for me. If you haven't watched it, he's just laid out, and I feel like snatching is like the perfect way to put the catch because he really did just like grab it out of thin air, like it was incredible. So that catch was definitely on there. One of my other ones, though, is cornerback for the Panthers. Mike Jackson intercepts Puka, Nakua, and Matt Stafford for a pick six. And I think that just shows how elite both of these players are because Puka outplayed Mike Jackson. I believe he's the one defending him in the in the first one. But then Mike Jackson intercepts a gorgeous pass for a pick six.

Plays Of The Week: Puka’s Snatch And Pick Six

SPEAKER_00

And I mean, who doesn't love a pick six? Come on. Because you know that it's every we always say it, it's an ick if you get an interception and you don't score. So just to take it right to the house, that's hot.

SPEAKER_03

Quick, easy, done. Points on the board.

SPEAKER_00

Done. Points on the board. Let's go. Let's get a win. So, Mike Jackson, shout out to you. Honestly, I didn't know that much about you prior to this pick six, but I love a pick six. And yeah, he's 28 years old, went to Miami for college. Round five in the 2019 draft. Went to Dallas. He's 6'1, 210 pounds. So he's kind of small. 6'1, dude. I actually have to tell you about another guy who's kind of tiny, is Mark Smariotta. 5'10.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. He's the he's a little, a little Hawaiian boy.

unknown

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

He played some insane football. But okay, we did play of the week. I fear that my game of the week is this Rams Panthers game. Really close second of the Commanders Broncos game. But the Panthers were, I was, I was counting them out, and then they have an insane comeback and win the game against the Rams.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, but the the comeback wasn't it was a comeback, but it wasn't that much of a comeback because they were back and forth on winner on who was leading the entire game.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I'm saying comeback in general because like the way like franchise comeback. Yeah, and like the also the way like from the get-go the matchup was. Like, no, I don't think anybody, and that not not a discredit to the Panthers, it's honestly a credit to the Rams, because like the Rams have just been playing really good football in the 9-3. So I think just with hearing all that and then seeing the game play out, it's like, oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

My bad, Bryce Young. But honestly, I'm happy for Bryce Young. This is too great season for Bryce Young.

SPEAKER_00

I know. He's really having a moment. Yeah. And I think I think the Panthers are on a high. I think the Panthers are like believing in their own potential now, which is why we're now seeing interceptions, why we're seeing some more sacks going on. I think that they're believing in themselves a little bit more than they did. I mean, last season was just abysmal for the for the Panthers. Like, I mean, they still made some great plays, which is why I had faith in them in the beginning, but like it was rough. They lost a lot of, a lot, a lot, a lot of games last year. And I think that this year, having a couple of W's is giving them a lot more confidence to play with more confidence. Um in the first quarter, they the Panthers picked off Matt Matt Stafford, which was Matt Stafford's first interception in 10 weeks. 10 weeks, Matt Stafford's first interception. And it was picked off by former Ram Nick Scott in the end zone. Insane. And then they had his Stafford's second interception in 10 weeks, which was the Mike Jackson pick six, which was just wild. Also, I need to know are cornerbacks doing catching practice?

SPEAKER_04

Honestly, I would say like, yeah. Because they should be.

SPEAKER_00

Once a month? I need to know. Somebody, somebody tell me. Okay, yeah. And then yeah, it's back and forth and fourth down conversion for the Panthers to Tetriola McMillan. TT. TT, do you can you pronounce his name well? I always feel really bad when I am not.

SPEAKER_04

No, I always just say TT. I actually have him on fantasy. Well, to that point though, I was gonna say the Panthers did him and Rico Dow told their offense this season. I think it's been a very big game changer for this offense too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because that was a fourth down

Sponsor Message And Meal Prep Shout

SPEAKER_00

conversion for the Panthers, which was that was like it was a hail. If it was two minutes later, it would have been a Hail Mary. But this also was a Hail Mary because if they hadn't gotten that, then like who knows what the Rams would have done. But then even after that, the Panthers were able to hold the Rams, intercept Matt Stafford, recover the ball after Stafford dropped it, hits a first down, and wins the game. So that game was just insane. Yeah, I don't think anybody saw it. Like you were saying, like, I don't think anybody expected it. I didn't expect the Panthers to get blown out, but I didn't expect the Panthers to win. Especially after last week, the Panthers were on my out list, and guess what? Now they're back in. I'm sorry that I did you like that.

SPEAKER_03

Now they're back in.

SPEAKER_00

I'm hot on you still, you know. I was being real last week. That was rough. It was so anyway. Panthers are now seven and six, which is a better record than Patty M. Also, fun fact about Bryce Young, he played under Mac Jones at Alabama, his freshman year.

SPEAKER_04

I rem I yeah, he did, which R-O-P Mac Jones. Mac Jones needs the Mac Jones should be starting on a NFL team. I think he proved it's right.

SPEAKER_00

I agree. Like maybe Mac Jones on the Jets. La Boo-Boo Man? We could never know that down. Keep it in. You're a little scary. He would scare it. I don't know. I would I would be down for Mac Jones on the Jets. Okay, and then last year, Bryce Young, his total yards last year, 2,403. Total yards this year so far, 2,337. So he's about 70, 80, over 100 yards away. But wow.

SPEAKER_04

Snaps.

SPEAKER_00

Snaps. Yeah. So he has had nine interceptions though. So let's let's

Panthers’ Franchise Comeback Energy

SPEAKER_00

reel that in and we'll uh we'll see how they go. One of my good friends, Eric, he's a Panthers fan, and I posted on my Instagram story, you guys, what did I tell you about the Panthers? And he DM'd me and said, Panthers is in the Super Bowl. And I was like, at first I was like, no freaking way. But then I was like, with how this season is going, I don't know. They just beat the Rams. They're still in, they're not knocked out yet. So I feel like 65-35 that the Panthers could get there.

SPEAKER_04

That's generous. That's generous, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_00

But they they beat the Rams. Yeah, I don't know. They beat the Rams and the Cowboys beat the Eagles and the Chiefs, and the Jets just won, and the Lions are losing, and the Lions are currently scared of the Cowboys, and the Seattle Seahawks are some the 40, the decimated 49ers have one of the best records. Like, what is going on?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yes. Yeah, I feel like it's it's unpredictable if he's gonna be in there, but I don't know if the Panthers are gonna make it. There's just too many good teams, and yeah, and the the 49ers actually are one game away from having the one seed, but they're also one loss away from missing the playoffs.

SPEAKER_00

That's excruciating. That is so crazy.

SPEAKER_04

No, but honestly, yeah, honestly, Kittle said this in a press conference after the game. He was like, you know, like our team has overcame so much. Like, if you if you told us that I was gonna be out, Rock Purdy was gonna be out, we were gonna like literally miss half of our team due to injury, and then Matt Jones was gonna play in the game of season. We've all really laughed at you, but now we've kind of are on the back half of that, sitting at a pretty good record and could be the one seed. So I don't know. We'll see. I like 49ers.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I like them too. Okay, my game of the week is the Broncos Commanders game. This blew me away. I'm not gonna lie, I fell asleep. I had acid, my I had acid reflux for the first time in my life from the eating so much Thanksgiving food. And so I was like, actually.

SPEAKER_04

I'm sorry for to worry.

SPEAKER_00

That is crazy. No, I was actually unwell. So after, so we had Thanksgiving and I had two full Thanksgiving meals. We had Thanksgiving on Saturday because we did the Cowboys game on Thursday, and then we had like my mom like whipped up a lasagna out of nowhere on Thursday for dinner. Friday we went to the Dallas Stars game with our whole family. So we weren't gonna have Thanksgiving then. So then Saturday was our Thanksgiving. And I just like eat pretty clean. And I also probably eat like smaller portions now than I ever have before. And then Thanksgiving, I was so excited all week for Thanksgiving. So then I just, I don't know what came over me. And I had so many cookies. Oh my god, my cousin Kim's cookies. I'm gonna lose my mind over how good these are. Like, I literally, there's not that many things that I can't have in the house. Like, I don't have like if it's in the house, I'll eat it situation, except with Sour Patch Kids and these cookies. And these will make me lose my mind. Anyway, yeah, so I got really bad acid reflux to the point where like I ate a turkey sandwich with like gravy on it the next day, and I had to lay down for a long time. So anyway, I nap through the beginning of the Commander's game, and then I turn it back on the fourth quarter. And I'm like, let me catch up. So I'm like zooming through and I'm like, oh my God, we're we're three points away from a tie. And I think that Dan Campbell and Dan Quinn are the same and that they are both like dirty play callers. Like they are animals, they are fearless. Like Dan Quinn is one of my favorite coaches to watch, just because he's like just enough on the cusp of reasonable and completely unpredictable. And so they end up tying the game. But what made this so dramatic is the horrible, horrible calls by the referees. And what also made this game so good was if you want to see like pure athleticism and grit and tenacity, like watch this game because both teams were exhausted. But the ability for the commanders to keep their cool after bad ref call, after bad ref call, after bad ref call going against the highest sacking team in the NFL, because the Broncos only got two sacks, two sacks against the Commanders, and that means that the Commanders were dirty. Because if the top sacking team only sacks

Commanders vs Broncos: Grit And Controversy

SPEAKER_00

you two times, we've seen games with seven sacks on quarterbacks this season. So the fact that you only got two sacks in that game is absolutely bonkers. And so I just loved watching Marcus Mariota do his thing. He's 32. He's a Scorpio, if you needed to know. 6'4, 225, 2015 first round pick to the Titans, one of the best quarterbacks for the Titans in the last 25 years, and then has been kind of a mix of backup and a starter on numerous teams after that. But they were able to keep so cool and so level-headed and play so level-headed in the fourth quarter in the face of pretty much as much adversity, and as much adversity as you can get. Because we've said that like the Broncos offense isn't really that good. They're not, they're not doing anything so spectacular that we're never talking about them. We're only talking about the Broncos defense and the fact that the Commanders were able to hold off the Broncos defense and even get them into overtime with the Commanders' records and how the Commanders have been playing and the loss of their quarterback and their backup coming in at 32 years old is insane. So let's talk a little bit about these fouls. I'll get off my soapbox here. Okay. So we had multiple flags that even the announcers for Sunday night football were calling bad calls. And I don't really feel like they will call out a bad call after bad call after bad call. Usually you'll get one and they'll say, I don't know, that one's a little on the fence. Like one of the announcers will say, I don't really think that's it. And the other one will be like, I can see it. This game, the announcers are just absolutely going in on the refs, basically calling the flags just absolute trash. So let's talk about it. With 255 to go, the commanders are on a second and 10 from their own 26. Mariota throws to Terry McLaurin, who was interfered with by Patrick Sertan. No flag was thrown, and the recall shows the uncalled penalty. Like it's it's just very, very clearly like textbook pass interference, no call there. So no 10, 15 yard benefit to the commanders. Then the next play, Mariota, is called for intentional grounding. It was not intentional grounding. And it's interesting because the exact same style play was called Marcus Mariota threw a lot of balls away in the fourth quarter. Like just throw away, throwaway, throwaway, throw away. We watched it like multiple plays in a row in the end. None of those are called for intentional grounding. It's the exact same scenario. Receiver is in the exact same spot. So intentional grounding call, absolutely not intentional grounding. I think whoever the receiver was tripped, couldn't get there, but it went right over his head. That was absolutely crazy. And those two calls went to a second down, a loss of down, and 25 yards back. So then they're on freaking first and 25 or second, and I think it was second and 25, which was insane. In the same, we're still in the final minutes of the game. And there was a false start quote on Terry McLaurin. Literally, if you watch it, there's no false start. And false start, I feel like always to me, like I need to get a little clearer on like how much movement a false start is really and how much any movement. Any movement. And it's like, I feel like it's a gray area, which is also why we're talking about it with the Eagles so much on the tush push. Because I feel like some refs call this differently. Like the refs all need a false start meeting to clarify. But anyway, Terry McLaurin is like not, he's not moving. He's just straight up not moving. And so the Sunday Night Football crew, who is NBC's Mike Tyrko, Chris Collinsworth, and Terry McAuley could not not talk about it. They are just saying McLaurin's called for a false start. That is not false start. And then in overtime, so after all of that, the commanders keep it together. And you know, when a foul gets called on you and you didn't foul, that is excruciating. It's painful. And after all of that, they make it into overtime. And there was a holding charge on a commander's rookie that also was like really that one was on the fence. So fine, but on the fence and a game changer.

SPEAKER_02

And then Andrew Harvey.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Yeah. And then an overtime, they did get one back where Marcus Mariota's literally just running away from defenders as they do. And Hufungo like pushes down the intended receiver. I think it was Terry McLaurin, and Mariota throws the ball in that direction. So clear pass interference, that did help them like stay in the game. But holy crap, like if I was a commander, like I'm already lit up about it because how are we saying that these are going to New York and then they're not what who in New York is not seeing what we're seeing?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, it goes, it goes back to like it goes back to betting. Like this, it goes back to how the league is an entertainment league first. It goes, it this is exactly why these games are scripted the way they're scripted. I will say though, once you get out of regulation, in my opinion, everything that happened in regulation kind of goes out the window, and like you're playing it's your survivors sync. And the commanders did survive in regulation, but unfortunately, Nick Benito for the Broncos is just an absolute beast. And two-point conversion of the commanders, they got the touchdown. They were gonna, they were trying to go for the win because you get the touchdown, you can field goals and it'd be tied. And as we know, first of all, ties are it's and if they went for the tie, you know, there were there is no extended overtime in regular season. So they have to go for the two-point conversion, and then Nick Benito just untouched off off off rip, untouched comes straight through the line and and doesn't sap very well, but blocks the ball, not blocks, swaps the ball down.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, in very dramatic fashion.

SPEAKER_04

In very dramatic. What's funny to me is like everyone's like dapping up. Um I forgot his name, but like he was diagnosed with testicular cancer and then like had surgery. And so a bunch of the teammates, he's on the Broncos, but a bunch of like the commanders, I think, yeah, he's on the Broncos. A bunch of the commanders' teams were like coming to him and like congratulating him and like you know, supporting him and stuff like that. But Nick Benito just like off by himself, like self-celebrating. So that was funny to me. But yeah, there was this girl I saw on TikTok, and she was like, a win is a win. Broncos win, a win is a win. But to your point of like, how many times are we gonna say the Bears suck until they don't because they're winning games? How many times are we gonna realize the Broncos

Ref Calls Breakdown And Overtime Drama

SPEAKER_04

aren't that good? Like Bo Knicks actually played a better game this game than he has. Um I actually just changed away Cortland Sutton, and he probably had one of the best games he's had in the last two weeks. So that's trash for Beyond Fantasy. But Bo Knicks actually played decent. The stack thing is very interesting to me on the defensive side of the ball. But at the end of the day, who won the game for the Broncos? I mean Nick Benito. Yeah. And that's been the story every single game. And Bo Nick said it at the press conferen the post-game press conference. He was like, Yeah, when we give the ball to the defense, we know they're gonna make a play and we know if they're gonna they're gonna help us out.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah. I think one thing that I think is frustrating as I continue to learn more and like do more like analyzing of what's going on. I'm not an analyst, I'm not calling myself an analyst, but I as I am paying more attention and just like learning more and looking at numbers more deeply than I ever have. The like NFL teams relying on a single point of failure is fucking insane. Like, it's insane because I was listening to something this morning and they're saying, like, just give it to Patrick Mahomes and you'll know he'll make a play. And it's like, if you can't, you're you're an entire organization, and if you're really putting all of your eggs in one basket, that's just bad business. And the store, like, it's just a boring storyline to me. And if you're losing because you have a single point of failure, you should be losing.

unknown

Literally.

SPEAKER_00

On any team, in any business, if you have a single point of failure, even if that is like your most important player, like it's still a single point of failure.

SPEAKER_04

Which is why the Bills have been losing games. And I will, I will like, you can't play hero ball. Like the era of like having a superstar quarterback and nobody on your offense to help them out is over. It needs to die because football is a team sport. But the the similar thing for the Broncos, that's like me saying the Cowboys are we're still winning games because our offense is really good, but our defense is questionable. No, if our defense is not good, well, defense does win championships, which is why the Broncos kind of are winning. So like devil's advocate is the point I'm trying to make. But you you have to have complimentary football. Your offense and your defense have to operate. Yes, are there gonna be flashes of greatness on one or the other in certain games? Yeah, but you have to have the marriage of the two in order to be really good teams. I mean, we we've seen it before where the defense hasn't been so great and the offense is taking over, but we've also seen the flip side. But I don't think, I don't know, uh the the Cowboys could be this team, honestly. And that's maybe a little bit of bias in me. But I don't know if there's a true complementary football team on both sides of the ball right now.

SPEAKER_00

That's interesting.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know what team that would say that. Like what team has been really dominant in offense and what team has also been really dominant in defense? I mean like I can maybe say the Colts because their defense has been bad.

SPEAKER_00

I would say that the Colts' defense has been, I would say they've been like decent. Yeah. I wouldn't say like great, but like I think that the thing about a about a complimentary team is like the chances of you having like excellent on both sides of the ball is low. So I think if you have good and great, that's a complimentary team. Or if you have excellent and good, like if if one side of the ball is as long as you're in the green on both, right? Like good on offense and excellent on defense, you'll win. Great on offense, great on defense, you'll win. Like good on both, you'll have you'll you'll squeak some out. But if either one is like bad, essentially like the the Bengals are playing with like a what what's it like when you're um in in school and it's like your report card is like excellent, good, needs work.

SPEAKER_03

Needs improvement.

SPEAKER_00

Needs improvement, yeah. Like Bangalore needs improvement on both sides of the bar of the ball, even with like even with Joe Burrow.

SPEAKER_04

You know, I would say that I would say though that bone's in the the Broncos offense is in the green.

SPEAKER_00

I would say two, yeah. I would say good. So, you know, maybe the Broncos, I mean, maybe the Broncos are one of those teams. I mean, I think that you're, you know, it's crazy, but I think that you're kind of right with the Cowboys. Like I think that they're good on both sides of the ball. I would like to say that the Lions are good on both sides of the ball. They're making my argument for them a little bit more challenging than I would like it to be right now, but I think that they I think that they're fairly even on both sides of the ball, even though I think that they're playing around with that good category on both sides at the moment.

SPEAKER_04

I saw something that said if Dan if Dan Campbell was gonna take over the offensive coordinator play calling position because the OC wasn't good at his job, in hindsight, you should have just gotten a new OC because now people are unhappy with with how Dan is calling plays, which is interesting. I thought Jameson Williams stepped up immensely this past game with the absence of Amon Raw.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

So

Single Point Of Failure And Complementary Football

SPEAKER_04

I don't again again, I don't watch every single quarter, so I can't really speak on this, but I don't know. I like are this play is this play calling that bad?

SPEAKER_00

It's not, I mean, okay, we this week we played the the thing about the game this week that I feel like is we played the Packers, who the Lions have already lost to this season. So that's a thing and a half. The Lions also are now going through their second transition of the season. And none of these are excuses, okay. I'm just saying facts here, but they're going through their second transition of the season with who's calling plays. And then Amon Ross St. Brown does go out. And I think that with the stakes where the stakes are, and as much as we want to say that these players can be calm, cool, and collected all the time, like the fact is that they're humans. And I think also, like, kind of like emotionally and culturally, when your star receiver who does a lot of the heavy lifting for your team goes out, it emotionally shakes you up. Yeah. So I think that fact in itself, like, are we, is it so shocking that the Lions lost to the Packers this week when Amon Ra goes out, when they're having some internal coaching struggle? Uh and the Packers are good. You know, like I think that the the I mean the Packers have a decent both sides of the ball.

SPEAKER_04

They do, they do, they do. But I will say they I feel like it's funny because I feel like this week was a storyline of like teams that have been like okay playing very well. Yeah. It's like the Packers played way better than I thought they were gonna play. Jordan Love did did a really good job in that game.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. The one thing that I didn't like was that Jordan Love looked like so smug on the sidelines. And I'm like, either be happy or be unhappy, but being smug is so annoying to me. You threw four touchdowns. Yeah, but you don't have to be smug about it. Like, why don't you just be outrightly happy? Like, why do you have to be like I beat you? Like, why can't you just be like smiling like a normal guy? It was like it's like a spidey, a spidey smugness. And that's because I'm a Lions fan, but like also come on. Like you can be happy and celebratory, but like you don't have to be like I'm winning. Like nobody likes that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that made one off that game, I will say.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Wow. Well, really interesting week 13. Interested for the Cowboys Lions game. I almost said we should watch it together, but I think that's scary.

SPEAKER_04

Victoria crash out of watching the game. I can't I I can't wait to watch should we though?

SPEAKER_00

And then do like live updates on Instagram.

SPEAKER_04

I have to check my schedule.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I gotta check my schedule too. I don't even know where I live.

SPEAKER_04

I think I I think I might be in rehearsal. But if not, I think we should watch it together. That's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, yeah, we'll get some we'll get some uh margaritas or something going. Maybe we should go somewhere.

SPEAKER_03

Actually, yeah. And like we should be like, you should be decked out in all lions gear. Decked out in all cowboys gear.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, I'm gonna be the only Lions fan in the bar, probably.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, true.

SPEAKER_00
