Welcome to 4 Downs in Stats Town, where we're focusing on numbers and backing up our predictions with data.
1st Down — The Stat King: Who’s Dominating Right Now (Myles Garrett)
2nd Down — Conference Check-In: NFC vs AFC Outlook
3rd Down — What’s Interesting This Week (Stats Meet Storylines)
4th Down — The Call: Playoff Picture, Predictions, and Pretenders
Records, reputations, and one jaw-dropping comeback collide as we break down a wild week across the NFL. We kick off with a hard look at Miles Garrett’s relentless campaign: league-leading sacks, game-altering pressure, and a legacy question that hangs over a Browns defense still searching for a ceiling. We dig into the numbers that matter, the contract bet that keeps him in Cleveland, and the human side of elite performance, from anime conventions to an athlete-to-athlete power pairing with Olympic icon Chloe Kim. From there, the field widens.
The NFC feels like a live wire: Dallas looks disciplined and explosive, the Eagles are coughing up the ball and rhythm at the worst time, and the 49ers keep humming with a plug-and-play system stabilized by Christian McCaffrey’s gravitational pull. Meanwhile, the AFC’s “safe” picture isn’t so safe: Lamar’s Ravens are dangerous but volatile, the Chargers can’t decide who they are, and the Bills remain the ultimate paradox—giant killers that stumble over trap doors. We highlight which teams possess genuine January traits: red zone finishing, turnover margin, fourth-quarter composure, and travel-proof game plans.
Then comes the shocker: the Colts sign Philip Rivers to the practice squad. We unpack why a 44-year-old QB would come back now, what readiness looks like after years away, and how this move reflects deeper front-office gambles in Indy. We even zoom into a sideline TV moment to ask what leadership and media savvy look like when the stadium is still shaking.
If you crave football talk that blends sharp stats, honest eye tests, and the stories that make the league feel human, you’re in the right place. Join us for smart takes on playoff paths, pretenders, and the players rewriting what’s possible down the stretch. Four Downs In Stats Town Setup
Speaker 1It's Victoria and Giovanna. The game's on. Welcome back to another episode of your favorite football podcast, The Game by the Girls for Everyone. We have our four downs in Stats Town episode today. And we are so excited to have our first guest on our stats-based episode. Today, we have Allie Anthony, who is previously a news reporter and now a content creator. She creates so much good content about the NFL and college football. She has really great takes. She knows what she's talking about. She knows the NFL and college football in and out. So this episode was such a pleasure to record. We talk a lot about stats. We also talk a little bit about pop culture and things that are going on. Please note that this episode was recorded right when the news of Philip Rivers going to actually be officially signed, the Colts was happening. So you'll hear a little bit of our discourse about it before we got the official news, which we got towards the end of the episode. We hope you enjoy. We love you. Let's get into it. We have our four downs today, our stats episode. And we are so excited to have a guest for the first time on our stats episode, Allie Anthony. Welcome to the game.
Speaker 3Yes. Are you? This is such an honor, girls.
Speaker 1I'm so excited to be here. We're so happy to have you because you have such good takes on TikTok. You know your stuff. I feel like the way that you speak about players feels similar to the way that we do and the way that you like approach your talking about football, both college and the NFL. And so I was like, we have to have her on, and what a more perfect way than to like show your expertise. So it's like we have to get her on. And this episode felt felt right, which I'm excited about because we have so much to talk about today.
Speaker 3Yeah, we have so much to talk about. It's been a crazy week. Let's go. Let's go. This is like new heights, you guys.
Speaker 1Exactly.
Speaker 3Exactly.
Spotlight: Miles Garrett’s Dominance
Speaker 1That's what we're going for. But cute. Yeah, everyone just starts yelling at random times. But cute. But aesthetic and like good outfits. I know. Like girls. So funny.
Speaker 3Oh my gosh.
Speaker 1Okay, so let's get right into it. We're starting out with our first down. Who's dominating the league right now? Spotlight on a player that is statistically owning the league. So today we are talking about Miles Garrett. He's the current sack leader in the NFL defensive end, number 95 on the Browns, which the Browns have been talked about obviously so much for their quarterback room. Shador threw for over 350 yards here in week 14. But Miles Garrett is really a standout in the league. He's on a four-year, $160 million contract extension that he signed in the beginning of this year, keeping him through 2030. And when he signed it, making him the highest non-paid quarterback at the time with $123.5 million guaranteed and a no trade clause because he did put in that he was looking for a trade. So they have a no trade clause in his contract. First overall pick in the 2017 draft by the Browns, and he's been there ever since. His birthday is actually December 29th. So coming up. Wait, so what is that? A Sagittarius? He yeah, I believe that's a Sagittarius.
Speaker 3I'm so bad at the science, guys. How old is he? How old is Miles Garrett? He's like, so 2017, he'd be he's 29.
Speaker 1He's 29.
Speaker 3So I was saying, I thought it was 30. Yeah.
Speaker 1So he's about to have his 30th birthday on the 29th. And I also have some new dating information on Miles Garrett before we get more into his yes, I love this.
Speaker 3I was gonna bring this up, so I'm so glad you're bringing this up. No, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 1No, they're just together. Yeah, but they're like in week 12, so I guess we're two weeks behind. We haven't broken the news on here. Sorry.
Speaker 3I thought I thought we were getting excited because, like, yay, Miles Garrett's single. And I'm like, no, I don't want that because I love them together. I think they're the cutest ever. They are really cute.
Speaker 1Yeah. So if you didn't know, which I didn't until today, so I guess I'm the one who's behind the ball that Miles Garrett is dating Olympic snowboarder, two-time medalist Chloe Kim. They were seen week 12 kissing on the sidelines. And I love an athlete-to-athlete couple. Like Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, like, we love the celebs, the singers, all of that. But I just feel like a girl, female, athlete, Olympian is so hot.
Chloe Kim, Nerd Miles, And Legacy
Speaker 3Nobody gets it like an athlete-to-athlete relationship. I feel like as someone who's not an athlete, like the most unathletic human being in the world, like my brother's an athlete. So I kind of get that life and stuff. But I feel like athletes, when they're working towards similar goals, they're just like on the same page about everything. And she is so fucking cute. I love her so much, you guys. Like she is, she's well dressed. And I don't know if you guys saw this. So I made a video about this like a while ago in the in the offseason. But Chloe Kim and Miles Garrett, like the first time they were seen out together, this is so funny. They were at an anime convention. Of course, Miles Garrett's on an anime convention. So Miles Garrett. Like Miles Garrett. Like this guy is the biggest nerd of all. He's the a beast, like you said. I mean, like he's I think he's 2.5 sacks away from breaking the NFL sack record in a season. Like he is next level top-tier athlete. But he's literally just like a big little boy. He loves Dungeons and Dragons and anime. And like the fact that he found someone who's one, an athlete, but two, like gets that side of him and is okay with it and like participates in it is so insanely perfect to me. Like I can't even, I can't even. I just think they're so they're OTP. I'm obsessed. They are. Wait, don't, don't what's OTP? One true pair. Like they're they're OTP. Like I ship them for life. They're everything. Oh. Okay. I agree.
Speaker 1Yeah, I think they're so cute. And um, they also in the week 12, you know, kind of announcement of their relationship. They were also talking about all the video games that they play together. And how like Chloe was saying that Miles is super good at Mario Kart. And it's so I love, I do see love seeing like a true, like, yeah, one true. Okay, I get it. One true. Yeah. Because they're like fully a match in every capacity. And yeah, athlete to athlete, like, and like top athlete to top athlete. Yeah. You know, because then there's not like a power dynamic or like anything going on in that regard because they're both like at the top of what they do.
Speaker 3Right. And the winter Olympics, you guys, they're coming up. So we're gonna like see her soon, right? Yeah, yeah. I I gotta be honest, I don't totally follow women's snowboarding, but like I think what she does is so sick. Just I don't know if she's competing. If she is, like that would be insane because it's February 6th through 22nd. So we might see him go support her, which would be everything because like we've seen her go to his games and stuff. And I'll the sidelines, yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah, like I think for me, interview him as a wag for the winter Olympics.
Speaker 3Oh my god, yes, oh my god, yes, wouldn't it be like a a bag? Yeah, a hag, a hag, husband and husband and boyfriend, a hab. A hab. A hab. A hab. The hab. Sidebar. Have y'all seen like pictures of Miles Garrett in college? Yeah, no, yeah, bro. This like he he's already a big guy, but in college, he was a monster compared, like his body compared to other people. Oh my gosh, it was insane, especially. I mean, he went to AM, so it's like maybe we just feel that way because everyone else is so much smaller in college, but he literally looked like a beast. He's just different, he's different, huge, yeah. He's so cute though, and I love this for him. I love that he's on track to break a record. I think obviously, you know, being on the Browns is not an ideal situation for a guy that's so elite, right? Like a team that just can't win, and like literally they get close and they can't. And I think while there's like a lot of changes happening, and I really like Shador being on there and like trying to change it, change it up in that way. Like it's just been a tough road for a guy that is so good. And it honestly sucks because like he loves this team, and I do think he's like, I do think he loves the Browns. I think he loves Cleveland and I think he likes being there, but it's just like, dude, at what cost? Like this sucks. He's he's so capable of being like impactful, honest, both caliber winning team. And because and it's interesting because we've we brought up like this drama a little bit around him wanting to be traded and him wanting to leave Cleveland, not because he doesn't love the city, doesn't love this team, but the Browns have been a dumpster fire up until up until late. And you know, we're talking about in the first down Miles Garrett leading, you know, in zaps, but you mentioned Shadur Sanders. I brought this up in our episode earlier this week. But Shadur Sanders, players who throw for 364 yards in their career, and it's Shadur Sanders and Tom Brady. So that alone kind of, and and we talked about the Tom Brady comparisons before too, not comparing Shadur and Tom Brady together because you can't compare apples to oranges, but considering that Shadur has set them to this new quarterback run role for the Browns, hopefully it'll change a little bit with the team dynamic. I'm not sure with Stefanski and the play calling over there, what's going to happen. But hopefully, Miles will be a little bit happier in Cleveland in the years to come once Shadur at quarterback.
Speaker 1Yeah. And it's funny because we're like at what cost, but he is one of the highest paid non-quarterbacks in the league. So like the prize is right.
Speaker 3Very much right.
Browns Context, Contracts, And Ceiling
Speaker 1And I think he's still getting to play at his top caliber. Obviously, he's like 2.5 sacks away from the all-time sack record in the NFL, 39 solo tackles and three force fumbles this year. Browns are the second in sacks, only second to the Broncos. The Broncos are at 55, which is 11 over the Browns, who are at 44, but nearly half of their sacks are Miles Garrett. And so I do think that like his willingness to be on this team and like just take it is boding well for him because he's still playing at a top caliber, even if the rest of his team isn't. And yeah, so it is like a bummer for him, but he's also getting to shine. Like, does he like being a big fish in a small pond? And is that why he signed, ended up signing the contract? Because some people like that, you know, some people don't want to be next to an Aiden Hutchinson or, you know, on a team of animal, animal defense. The Browns defense is 17th in the league in rankings right now. So they're not totally at the bottom. They're not near the top either. Right. But they're like fine, which, if I'm a top player, being on a fine one is better than like being on the Saints or the Titans. Right.
Speaker 3No, I agree. Yeah. Yeah. I think it's just, I think it's an interesting thing to see him on this team. I think it's going to be an interesting season next year to see like what the Browns can do just as an organization. It really like starts from the top.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 3And like you can get a great quarterback who you don't start till like, you know, two thirds into the season. The season's over. It's over. Like, but you can have a great quarterback and you can have a Miles Garrett, but it's like, this is a this is a team sport. And like he's gonna be a Hall of Famer a hundred percent. But it makes me wonder like, is he gonna go down with the Chris Joneses of the world? Like when we think about the NFL 30 years from now, we're gonna remember Chris Jones. Are we gonna remember how epic Miles Garrett was? Because like at the end of the day, he's probably not gonna win a Super Bowl. Maybe he does soon. He's still young. Like he has years to go, and I would love to see him win a Super Bowl. But I don't know. Those those Browns rookies are coming to play. Harold Fannon is a dog, and he's been really impactful on this team. And David Njoku, like Harold Fannon's coming for your slot. My guy, not to mention Quinson Judkins. Like, I think they're if they develop him the right way, he could be really impactful for the Browns too. So I don't know. They have some really good rookie talent. And I think if, like you said, Ali, if they can start at the top and you get the coaching and play calling a little right, and you develop these guys, the young guys you have with a no-leader like Miles Garrett, the Browns could be really good. Mind you, their defense hasn't been bad this season overall.
Speaker 1Yeah. And he was first overall pick in 2017. So he also knew going in with the Browns that he was at like the beginning of something, which I think management of expectations over time is also probably why he's happy because he didn't go on to like the Chiefs being like, we're going to the Super Bowl. He's like, this team is trash.
Speaker 3Yeah. And I gotta do something. Speaking of Christians. I mean, that was 2017. You would think by 2025, like this organization could turn it around. It's just like the Browns, dude. Like, I don't know what's going on over there. I don't, I don't really know like front office what's going on with that organization, but it's just like this is a mess. Yeah. And something needs to change, especially like, I don't know what what pick they're getting in the draft this year. I don't really know what's going on there. But they need to take advantage of whatever draft pick they can get and like make some organizational changes so that they can do something with this team because they have the talent. It's just like things fall through with Cleveland all the time. All the time.
Speaker 1All the time. I do like thinking about Miles Garrett and Shadour in in the same room. Same. Like I just kind of like their vibes together. Like I feel like Shadoer's a little unhinged, and Miles Garrett is like just a cutie boy, like a little nerd. And I feel like them together just feels like a cute pair. Also, okay, so do you know Hi Frankie Allie? Yeah, yeah. The app? Okay, so we interviewed Isabelle, but I use her app all the time. And Miles's picture on here. Oh my god, part of my screen is so cute.
Speaker 3I'm obsessed with him, you guys. He is so he's one of those people that you just like you want the best for him, truly. Yeah. You want him to win. Like, yeah. You know, you just want him to be happy. You want the best for him. And like, you know, I just hope the Browns can pull something together for him so that he can really be like one of those, not just like, you know, Hall of Famers, but like a true legend that everyone remembers. Like, that's what he's saying.
Speaker 1Yeah. I would love to see him like smash this all-time sack record. I mean, he's already at 20. He has, you know, at least four games to go. I'd love to see him at like 25 because that will also kind of like secure his legacy if he can hold on to that for like multiple years to come. And then anytime anybody even gets close to that, we're hearing Miles Garrett's name, which I think will like secure his legacy. So I think if he can like keep doing what he's doing right now, essentially, two sacks per game, then he's gonna have 26 or 28, and we'll get to hear about him, even if even if the Browns can never pull anything together for him. Last note on Miles Garrett, he's Capricorn.
Speaker 3Ah, he's a Capricorn. I don't know anything about Capricorns at all. I also do not. We need to see Frankie out.
Speaker 1I also do not. Yeah, so go to High Frankie and learn more about Miles Garrett's star sign. He did have a 10.0 rating on High Frankie last week, and he did get two sacks in the game. So that's pretty epic.
Speaker 3Gold star for you. Yeah, gold. Yay! Yay! We love you, Miles. Call us if you want to do an interview during the Olympics. Miles. Oh, I'll be in his DMs.
Speaker 1Don't you worry.
Speaker 3We'll be hound him.
First Down Wrap And Fun Asides
Speaker 1We'll be in there. Yeah. Can we get a press pass? Who do I know? I actually do know one pro snowboarder. Okay. Like a real estate client. Okay. One almost client. Let's see what happens. Yeah. We'll see what we can do. We'll just like gently, gently figure it out. Gently put. Okay, moving on. Our second down conference check-in, NFC versus AFC, who's separating, who's slipping, and what this means for the playoffs. Giovanna, you want to start us off on this one?
Second Down: NFC vs AFC Picture
Speaker 3Yeah, and I want to start right with Ali's list. If you haven't followed her TikTok, we'll drop her TikTok on all of our socials. But she posts a bunch of sports takes. And I have to talk about your NFC playoff picture. You posted this video not too long ago. And I'm curious to see if it's changed. So in the NFC, Allie currently has the Packers that won, followed by the Rams, Eagles, Bucks, Seahawks, 49ers. And Allie said there's a four-way tie for seventh, but she said the Cowboys. I have like I am a delusional Cowboys fan. I get it. I know it. I've been this way like every year. You know, and I don't hate it. Listen, I don't need it either because I was just about to say. So I made a little updated, like just thinking about it, because I knew we were going to talk about this and I knew somebody was going to bring up this list. I knew it was because this was so controversial. Okay. So I think I stay with obviously the Packers will get in, the Rams will get in, I'm going to go, the Bucs will get in, and then the Eagles and then Seahawks and Niners feel like a lock to me still. The thing is the Eagles if they keep losing and we keep winning, we could take the NFC East. Like if the Cowboys keep winning and the Eagles keep sucking, like Jalen Hurts did last night. Like there's a there's a chance, you guys. I was watching the Eagles last night and I'm like, y'all are a mess. Like, I don't know. They're a dumpster fire. And it's like, how do you go from being Super Bowl champions to this? Like this, it literally looked the Chargers' defense versus the Eagles' offense, looked like a high school team versus a college team. Like it was not, we weren't on the same level. Something wasn't clicking. Like their offense is off in so many ways. Finally, they're giving the ball to AJ Brown. I think that's a great thing. Keep feeding him, but it's like something is off, something is not good. Saquon's not playing the way he was playing last year. Like things are things are not clicking. So there's a world where the Cowboys sneak in or take the NFC East.
Eagles Slide, Cowboys Surge
Speaker 1I kind of think after watching last night, that the Cowboys will take the NFC East. FC East because they're only a win and a half away from overtaking the Eagles. Like 1.5 games, and I know it's 0.5, whatever, but like there's four games to go. The Cowboys do have one of the best offenses in the league. Dak Prescott is doing an insanely good job, staying insanely poised in games. He came back against the Eagles, which, although the Eagles are kind of trash right now, still to like go 24 points unanswered. Like the amount of like focus and quality play that that takes to mentally overcome that, and then to actually do it, and then to see how the Eagles are playing now, like, who do you trust more? Like the Eagles offense to do anything for the Cowboys offense to pull out three of their next games as wins. Like, I would put my money on the Cowboys, especially at this point. And just because the Eagles won the Super Bowl, like, unfortunately, they're playing so badly that we can't even like rely on that anymore. And we just saw the Chiefs essentially plummet, you know, and everybody all years been saying, well, it's Patrick Mahomes and he's gonna do it. And they're like, well, it's Jalen Hurts and it's Saquon.
Speaker 3But at this point, week 14, I think it's so great. This season has been so exciting because the Giants of the NFL have fallen. Like we are seeing teams that haven't been relevant in years. Like take, like they are the number one seed. We are so excited to see teams like even the Broncos who like, you know, they've been like consistently good, but they haven't been able to like finish. And like this has been such a fun season for that. Exactly. Like, I love to see the Chiefs not do great. My boyfriend is a huge Chiefs fan. He's gonna be so upset that I say that. But it's like I love to see it. I think it's good. Like, let someone else come in. The NFL is not built to have dynasties. That's not what the NFL does. That's the whole draft picks and the orders of like the order of things. We're not supposed to have dynasties, and it's okay if they don't make it to the playoff like one year. I'm happy about it actually. Yeah. Yeah. I know you're a college footballly too, and I feel like we're seeing that a little bit in college. And maybe we'll like sprinkle some call talking to you because I'm curious about your Heisman thoughts. But last thing I'll say about the Eagles, I fear QBR might be one of my favorite stats right now. Y'all want to know what Jalen Jalen Hurts QBR was last night? I read it. 70. 31.3. 31? That bad. Well, he had five picks, right? It was. He had five turnovers. Um although they weren't, which it kind of sucks for a quarterback is like when you throw an interception and your receiver doesn't catch the ball, like clearly it was your receiver's fault, but that still was a knock on like your quarterback reading. So there were a couple of moments in that game that like you know had some drops. AJ Brown, you mentioned him, he actually had a drop in the end zone. That was pretty interesting. Um needed to play better. Yeah, he he was kind of mad at himself.
Speaker 1Yeah, you can't be in the media and then be dropping it in the end zone.
Speaker 3It's a bad very, very bad. The worst part about that was he was like balling, like he was having a great game until that, and then it was like until that point, and it just went downhill. Dylan Hurts has five turnovers though. First player since 1978 to commit two turnovers in one play, which is when he threw that interception, then it got fumbled, then Dylan Hurts picked it up, but then it got fumbled again. It was eventually recovered by the Chargers. Just a crazy play. And like that's literally like been all over my Instagram and my TikTok this morning. It's just that play alone. So I don't know. The Eagles, it's it's it's rough. Yeah. And it will be interesting to see how they finish out the season. I do feel like the Cowboys losing to the Lions was horrible, very, very, very detrimental for our playoff chances. And we there is like there's no room for error for the Cowboys going forward if we're going to take our NFC division. So we'll see. Absolutely not. I mean, schedule-wise, I'm looking at it. Cowboys play the Vikings, the Chargers, Commanders, the Giants, right? Yeah. And then the Eagles play Vegas, Washington, Buffalo, and Washington again. So I feel like they have a little bit of the easier schedule, but who knows what's gonna happen with them. I mean, like, if they can't figure it out, I could see them losing two of those games.
Speaker 1Yeah, I mean, I can, I can as well. Like, the Cowboys should be able to beat the Vikings. Like, I know the Vikings are on a chaos train. No idea what's going on over there, but it's entertaining. So Vikings are kind of a toss-up, but I think if the Cowboys, like the Cowboys beat the last two Super Bowl contenders, so I feel like the Cowboys can beat the Vikings. Yeah, Chargers is gonna be a crazy game because but the Chargers offensive line is is not that strong.
Speaker 3They're so beat up, you guys. It's insane.
Niners’ System And Injuries
Speaker 1So like they have some good things going, but I don't know if they're good enough to beat the Cowboys right now, especially like a smooth, like the Cowboys offense is like a smooth running operation. Like it's doing its job, it's moving along. Like they're pretty clean over there, and the Chargers are definitely not clean. Commanders and Giants, like if the Cowboys can't beat the Commanders and Giants, they don't deserve to go to the playoffs. No, no, definitely not. So it's like, I mean, the next two will be are like the important ones, and then yeah, they don't deserve it if they can't beat the last two.
Speaker 3Absolutely. I think a team that's been so fun to watch this year in the NFC is is the Niners. I think what they've been able to do with such an injured roster, they're gonna get a spot as a wild card. I'm I'm like so certain of it. Like, I really do feel like they're gonna win out. And they're, I mean, I just think this team, I admire them. I I obviously don't like them because I'm a Cowboys fan, but yeah, I admire what they're able to do with so many injured players. It's it's incredible. Yeah.
Speaker 1And yeah, like the switching out of players and like inconsistency, like, you know, we've been talking a lot about it coming from the top, but whatever system they have in place is a system that like I don't think any other team has because they just are like plugging and playing. Yeah, they're literally just like dropping in little avatars of people and saying, like, your turn now.
Colts Turmoil And Rivers Rumors
Speaker 3No, you know what system they have? Christian McCaffrey. That's their system. Like period. Who I think is like just elite when it comes to coaching. I think he's been able, I mean, this team over so many years has been in this position where so many people are injured with different rosters. And it's like, how do they keep finding away? It's amazing, it's amazing. Yeah, like yeah. Last time I wasn't at the Cowboys, you have to keep in mind CD Lamb is in concussion protocol. I know that was in L. Lamb. The hands. As soon as I saw the hands, I'm like, he's out. Um, but can we talk about another team that is uh on the trouble bus and they actually started off the season very, very hot, and I'm talking about the Colts. News broke yesterday.
Speaker 1This is my I've been I'm so excited to talk about.
Speaker 3They have reached out to 44-year-old Philip Rivers to come out of retirement. We don't know if he's gonna play because Riley Leonard, their their backup, backup right now, is day to day. So I still don't know what that's gonna look like for the Colts, but Daryl Jones out for the season after he went down this past season. Anthony Richardson has been, I can't even talk about that. But yeah, I mean, Philip, this man's a grandfather. Granddaddy. We're gonna see some granddaddy out there. Grandfather, a little, some little notes about Philip Rivers. I mean, he played for the Chargers and the Colts. He wasn't terrible. His overall passing yards, he was at 63,440 passing yards and 421 touchdowns. He had 240 careers starts. So he's not like terrible. He was an eight-time pro bowl selection 2013 NFL comeback player of the year, otherwise in passing touchdowns in 2008 and 2010. So, I mean, not terrible, but he's 44 years old. However, this is the year, this is the year of the umk. No, it's the year of the unk. I'm a it's such the year of the umk. So I fear he might like come in and like go crazy. But I'm just waiting on the Colts to call back Joe Flacco because Joe Flacco is obviously his job is done with the Bengals, but I don't think Joe Flacco would go back to the Colts, and I don't think the Colts would call Joe Flacco back. So I don't know.
Speaker 1I don't think Joe Flacco played well enough with the Bengals for the Colts to want. Like the Colts are like, we're either gonna rock with what we have or we're gonna bring in someone.
Speaker 3Joe Flacco led the league in passing yards when he played with the Bengals.
Speaker 1They still don't win anything.
Speaker 3Well, that's but I fear that might have been more about the Bengals, not about Joe Flacco.
Speaker 1That's probably true. You're right.
Speaker 3So my thing with Phillip Rivers, just like out of curiosity, do either of you know what the protocol is when you're retired, 44 years old? Like, is he training? Like, what like what is what is he doing on a day-to-day basis? And like, how does how is he gonna jump back in to an NFL game at 44? He's a grandpa. Like, I don't understand what you do on a day-to-day to like just jump back in the game, right? His last game was like 2020, right?
Speaker 1Yeah, his last game, 2020 with the Colts. They apparently brought him in for like some, like, I don't think it was like an official full workout, but yeah, they brought him in for a workout.
Speaker 3One day, though, like, give me seven days, and I would still be like, wait, I'm so like, I have sea legs, like, I don't know what I'm doing. I feel like that is just such a crazy thing to be able to like not play for five years and then jump back into it. It's just that's all I can think about with him. I'm like, this is gonna be such a weird thing for him. I mean, I guess when you start in what'd you say, like 250 games, you kind of know what you're doing at that point, but but can you imagine your first sack at 44?
Speaker 1The first sack back is gonna be horrible. I know. If he comes in, he better be wearing a guardian cap. That's all I have to say.
Media Moment: Herbert-Lauren Rutledge
Speaker 3Guys, get this. The Colts play the Texans. Oh, I know. I know the Colts play the Texans. Yeah, yeah. I cannot wait to see that. I honestly put him in. Put him in, please. Put him in. It's gonna be great TV. It's gonna be great TV. Seeing the downfall of the Colts has been such a like disheartening thing for me because I loved their whole, like, you know, I loved the whole thing. The whole thing of them just like being good. Jonathan Taylor is I'm obsessed with everything he does. He's so talented. Danny Dimes having this like resurgence and like coming in and playing so well and now having like two pretty much broken legs. Like the whole thing has just been so sad. And I really hope that this wasn't just like a moment in time. Like, I hope they can come back next season. I don't know what they're gonna do with the quarterback situation because like I don't know if they're gonna want to pay Daniel Jones, like if he's injured. And but they also, this is T. When they traded for Sauce Gardner, they gave away two first round picks. I think one this year and then one maybe next year. And so, like, who are they gonna get at quarterback? Like, they are in a hole, they're in a weird situation. So it's gonna be really interesting to see what their front office does in the offseason. Like, I don't think Phillip Rivers is gonna be able to do much. I mean, I could be underestimating the old man, but like, who knows what's gonna happen with this team? And it makes me so bummed because it's like, God, they were just like so, they were literally sitting on top of the division, like just hanging out up there comfortably. Talk about a fall from Grace. Like, I think they yeah, they had a 42% chance of making the playoffs, and no team that has started eight and two has missed the playoffs in this century. Now the Colts are probably gonna miss the playoffs. Yeah, Carly. Well, Carly needs to walk her butt and have a meeting with Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard and be like, look, we drafted y'all. Y'all are supposed to be the future of this franchise. Get it together. Figure it out. Like, get it together. Get it together.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 3That's their only hope at this point.

It's so I have to tell you some things about Philip Rivers. So Philip Rivers was drafted in 2004. So a really long time ago. Yesterday was his birthday. So he just he's a he's a new 44. But wait, you know what's crazy though is that he's like almost in my dating range.
Speaker 3Like my dating range is almost 30, 30 to like 42. Ramps, you need to call him. Oh, wait, he's like married and has 10 kids and a grandbaby. I forgot. Yes, he has 10 children.
Speaker 1Can you imagine being that guy's 10th kid and being like, my dad's going back in? No.
Speaker 3I think I saw something that his oldest kid is the same age as Riley Leonard.
Speaker 1Yeah, like I think they're his oldest kid's like 23, 24, maybe older at this point. Yeah, so 10 children. And then he was in, so he got drafted to the San Diego Chargers. So if we have any new football fans listening, like he was San Diego Chargers. Yep. And then moved to LA Chargers. Yeah. Which I feel like really ages him a lot because like I feel like people kind of forget, except San Diego people. But I think that the San Diegans are gonna be freaking out because a lot of San Diegans hit left the Chargers, left Chargers fandom when the Chargers left. Like it was a really I'm from San Diego, so it was a really big deal when the Chargers left San Diego. And a lot of people kind of dumped them. And I feel like Philip Rivers coming back as a San Diegan like hits like a deep part of my heart. Even though I wasn't like a big fan, like we all knew about Philip Rivers. And Philip Rivers was like a massive, massive community impact guy. So not just like known for gameplay, but known for like being in the community and being like a stand-up citizen and like a good person and a really good role model and a lot of community service. So I feel like San Diego is gonna freak out to even potentially see him in a jersey, even if it's on the Colts, because a lot of San Diegoans, yeah, like didn't go with the Chargers when they went to LA and left.
Speaker 3Yes, the ratings for that game are gonna be through the roof. People are gonna love watching this game. Yeah, I can't wait. I am I I do worry about the poor guy against the Texas defense.
Speaker 1But yeah, it's not, yeah, it's not like it's like if okay, if Gronk went back in, and I know he's like more like I guess if Philip Rivers went out in 2020, that's not that long ago. But like I feel like if Gronk went back in, no qu I'm not concerned. I'm not worried about it at all. Yeah. Even if you put like the rock into an NFL game, I'd be like, I don't know, he'd be fine. But like I think that Philip Rivers has been off the map.
AFC Wildcards And Bills Question Mark
Speaker 3I think Gronk has CTE, so I don't know. Yeah, I know. That's kind of what I'm saying. Like, Gronk is just so out there and bizarre that like you could literally have you seen the thing where it's like, how many men would it take to take down a gorilla or whatever? You could do Gronk v gorilla, and Gronk could take the gorilla. Gronk v gorilla. Like he is, yeah, he can go into an NFL game at any point in time. He has no idea what's happening. Like, he's fine. Yeah, Philip Rivers is like a sweet old man with like grandchildren and kids. Like, I just I don't know. It's gonna be sad to see him get sacked on multiple occasions because we know he's gonna roll off the field in a wheelchair.
Speaker 1That player profile needs to come out hot. Like, what has he been up to for five years? Is he like on a razor scooter with his grandchildren or is he like working out? Like I he would, he probably wouldn't have even gotten called if he was inactive, like if he was sedentary.
Speaker 3Yeah, what I want to know is like how much that the Colts do into digging into other people available within the league already. Like, why don't y'all call the Giants? Yeah, you have Russell Wilson and Jameis Woodson on that roster. There's I feel like there's other people in the league that I'm curious if there was even a conversation with other teams and it just like wasn't gonna work, or if their literally their contingency plan was to bring Philip Rivers out of retirement.
Speaker 1Yeah. Yeah, because maybe when maybe when the fracture happened, the for the fibular tibula fracture happened, then the Colts were like, What's our backup plan now? But I also think that like we are probably overdramatizing Philip Rivers going in for a workout because that's all he did. He went in for a workout, there's no contract, he has not been at practice, we don't know anything about pads, they don't know how he's gonna perform in pads or in cleats. So I think because he's so old, everyone's freaking out, whereas he just went in for a workout.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 1So I assume that they're also having other conversations at the like, we're not seeing the majority of conversations that are happening with any team ever. And I think that we forget that because of there is so much media around the NFL that we forget that like everything is happening behind the scenes. Yeah. And we don't know it until we until we know it. So we don't know who they are talking to or not talking to or who's in their their lineup. But this is obviously gonna break as huge news because he's who he is.
Speaker 3Apparently, the workout's happening today, and I actually saw something that I think it was the Rams. I'm pretty sure it was the Rams, but I saw something that in 2023 another team reached out to him to also come. So I feel like he's been kind of waiting for this moment. I think like to your point earlier, Ali, like what is like what have you been doing? Like, maybe he's kind of just been that guy that maybe could be called on.
Speaker 4Yeah.
Speaker 3Yeah. So like maybe he's just keeping up, right?
Speaker 1Coach, I'm ready. Yeah, he's like, I've been playing with my I've been playing with my kids and grandkids.
Speaker 3So don't be on my 10 kids. I have a whole football team in my house. Like, let's go.
Speaker 1No, literally, he's like, he's like, actually, I've been planning this forever.
Panthers Sneaky Case And Upsets
Speaker 3He's like, I got my old line right here, I got my two receivers. Yeah, I can't wait to see. Who do you guys gonna who do you guys think is gonna take the AFC wildcard spots like at this point? I feel like the AFC is more locked up than the NFC is. Yeah. I'm just kind of wondering if maybe the Ravens can find a way to like slide in over the Chargers potentially. Interesting. I don't think it's gonna happen because they're kind of a train wreck, but like I would love, I love Lamar Jackson so much, you guys. And after what Justin Herbert did last night to Laura Rutledge, did you guys see that? No. Yes. He was like, I just want to celebrate with my team and I want to celebrate with. I'm like, bro, you know this. Like, you know, after you win a game and you win against Lamar Jackson, the girls have to talk to you or the news has to talk to you. For background, last night after the game, obviously the Chargers win, Laura Rutledge from ESPN. She goes up to get her post-game interview with Justin Herbert. And he pretty much declined the interview and was like, I just want to go celebrate with my teammates. And he kind of just like said it in this very standoffish way, like was walking away. She has to get the interview with him. Like that is her job. That is what you that's also what you do as an NFL quarterback after a big win. Like you go and you get your post-game interview. Whether you want to talk or not, that's a part of the job. Anyways, he like brushed her off and she was like, I need this. Just give me one second. You need to watch it. Anyways, so it just like for me, I've always really liked Justin Herbert. I've always thought he's such a great athlete. I like that he's pretty like kept to himself, and I enjoy that about him. But when I saw that, as an ex-news reporter who knows like what it's like to be on live TV and you have to get your interview, and that's your job. Like, I felt so bad for Laura Rutledge in that moment. Just so, like, that's such an embarrassing thing to have to be broadcast on live TV. Yeah. She was really nice about it though. She was like, Well, we have to like, we kind of like, is it okay? If like it'll only take a second, like, yeah. But I fear like I get it from his perspective. Like, you just it was a big win. And like as the leader, yeah, as the leader, like you want to celebrate with your team, but I don't know, there has to be like a balance in between it, like you have to at least, you know, finish your duty and then because he could at least say, like, he could at least say, like, thanks for being here.
Speaker 1It was obviously a really great game. I don't want to do too many questions. I'm really excited to celebrate my with my team.
Speaker 3It was just like the way he did it, and then he looked so pissed the whole interview. And I get it. You don't always want to be the media availability thing, it sucks. I get it. Like, but again, as a news reporter, I was like, my heart goes out to Laura Rutledge, this like, you know, iconic sports reporter who's so great at her job. Like, that situation is just so awkward. And like, she's live, whether you like it or not. Like, if she doesn't get an interview, it's just she messed up. And that's gonna be a huge like thing on her end. And so maybe it was the timing of the broadcast, but I was just like the cameras were already rolling. And like, he also could have, after taking the interview, I think he could have like turned it around and been a little more positive and been like, hey, sorry about that. Like, I just can't wait to go see my teammates. Thanks for your time. I gotta go. Like, there it was so cringe. You've got to watch it, Victoria. Okay.
Speaker 1It's just crazy because he's been in the league for so long. Like, what are you doing?
Speaker 3I don't know. I mean, like Giovanna said, like the timing can be very hard because it's like you're so amped up in that moment. I can only imagine. Like, all you want is to celebrate after a win like that. That's like, you know, an overtime battle it out type of win. Like, you're just pumped up, so I get it. But it's just like, dude, you gotta know, like, the cameras are rolling, this is not gonna be a good look for you. Smile and wave. Smile and wave. Kind of goes back to a conversation we had yesterday, but just when you're in the limelight like that, and you're you're a leader and you have a certain level of responsibility to say things certain ways and not say things other ways. Yeah, but I don't know. Hopefully, he'll it'll be a learning lesson for him. I will say breaking news Philip Rivers has officially signed with the Colts to their practice squad.
Speaker 1Let's go. Oh my god. As I'm like, as I'm like, let's not be dramatic, let's be very dramatic. I know, I can't wait.
Fourth Down: Predictions And Pretenders
Speaker 3I'm so excited. Officially signing up the Colts to their practice squad. Um so glad that just broke while we're on the side.
Speaker 1That is wow, so fun. This is coming out on Thursday morning, so everyone will have heard heard the news. Okay, let's go, Philip. I'm I can't wait to see everything that comes out. Like, they're definitely gonna do a piece interview on like what have you been up to, give us the update. I am gonna try and get if you guys know any of Philip Rivers' immediate family, please let me know because we want to interview them literally tomorrow.
Speaker 3This is interesting. Philip Rivers is one of the 26 modern era semi-finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2026. If he then becomes to the Colts active roster, he's only on the practice squad right now. If he signs to the Colts an active roster, that Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame clock will restart and his can candidacy will be delayed by five years. Yeah, you can't you can't be active and be a Hall of Fame. Yeah, yeah. So crazy. Wow. That's crazy.
Speaker 1Wow. I mean, does that do you think that matters to him? No. I mean, probably not. If you sign to the squad, you're like, you probably don't care.
Speaker 3I think at that point he's already gonna be a Hall of Famer. So like I don't think it matters how he goes in. Yeah, yeah. Let's just hope he doesn't screw anything up, right? Oh my gosh, even more, even more interesting stuff. The last time the Colts made the playoffs in 2020, it was with Phillip Rivers. Oh my god, what if he brings the team back to life? That would be insane.
Speaker 1Oh my god, this is so crazy. I did not I didn't see anything this season coming, but I definitely did not see this coming.
Speaker 3Crazy.
Speaker 1Wow. Well, we'll keep up on this situation for sure. Can't wait for next week to talk about what's going on over there. Let's move on. We're getting towards time. So fourth down. This is our playoff picture, predictions, and pretenders. So we've already talked a little bit about what's going on in the divisions, kind of what we think. I guess we didn't really talk. We we said, who do we think's gonna take the wild cards in AFC? We didn't fully answer that. I mean, maybe the Colts now coming, making their comeback. I think the Texans and the Bills are gonna be able to make it happen. Steelers are at the top of their division at the moment, which is crazy to me. Like, I don't really care to watch the Steelers, to be honest. So I wouldn't be upset if there was a change there, but we'll kind of see. I think that the NFC is way more interesting than the AFC, to be honest. Like Broncos Patriots, like I want to watch them, but NFC, you I mean, you had the do you still have the Packers at the top of your NFC? I do. I do.
Speaker 3I think the Packers are such a great team. I obviously have some like, you know, hard feelings about the Packers, but I think they're a good team. And I think they will end up on top of the North. And I think they've got the talent and they're relatively like healthy compared to other teams. So I I don't know. I don't see a world where they don't end up on top.
Speaker 1Okay. Yeah.
Speaker 3I mean, I just feel I feel like the Rams are so good as well. Oh, yeah. The Rams are insane. They're a lock. For me, they're a lock. Like, yeah. I think I if we're talking Super Bowl predictions, the Rams are going to the Super Bowl. I think.
Speaker 1Okay, how do you feel? One of my favorite teams to talk about is the Panthers.
Speaker 3Yeah.
Speaker 1What do you see, Allie, for the Panthers through the rest of the season?
Closing Thanks And Guest Plugs
Speaker 3So, Panthers, let's see where I have them right now. I don't really see, I think they'll probably get into the wild card. Yeah. They've beat some good teams. They're good, they're a well-rounded, like decent team. I don't really see them going that far in the playoff, but they kind of like snuck up on me, to be honest. Like, I kind of started the season being like the Panthers. Like, whatever.
Speaker 1Like, what you do, like nobody talks about them. People are just like, okay, Panthers, like whatever they kind of start.
Speaker 3A single Panthers fan. Do you? I don't think I actually started looking at one. What? Victoria is the big Victoria's the big Panther team. Panthers fan.
Speaker 1Okay, no, no. Okay. So I have three teams. I'm I'm like a true Lions fan. Okay. Okay. But since we started this show, I just know so much more than I've ever known before. I love the Colts because the Carly story like shook me to my core, what the girls are doing over there. And then we interviewed a uh fiance of a second-year Quilts player. I interviewed her yesterday, and I met her at the Berlin game and her family, and they just had the best things to say about the Colts organization, which just hammered in. But I literally went to Berlin to see Carly. Yeah, so I'm obsessed with them and I love their like rise to fame. Even with Daniel Jones going out, like that story is just incredible to me, the whole thing. And I'm really excited to watch that franchise over time. But the Panthers, everyone thinks the Panthers are horrible. And I've been saying since my NFL fandom began, I guess I'm in my fourth year now, that the Panthers are better than everyone thinks. Like the Panthers have great, like excellent plays in every single game. And a lot of times they can't squeak out a win, but they are making plays in every single game and they're playing a lot of good football in pretty much every single game.
Speaker 3And so what do you feel like is the Panthers' edge? Like, what's their strong suit? What's it gonna be that like takes them into the playoff?
Speaker 1That nobody expects them to be that good. So everyone relaxes a little bit.
Speaker 3Yeah, Rico Daddle. Yeah, the mistakes that the Cowboys made. Holy moly, Rico Daddle just walked into the Panthers' offense and said, give me the keys, I'm taking this for the case. Yeah, good for him. Good for him. I'm honestly happy. And then also the Panthers got TT and he's been really good for that team. Yeah.
Speaker 1Yeah.
Speaker 3I have to talk about the Bills for a second because every single time we talk about Josh Allen, he's an MVP. We know how he is, but this Bills team I've been a little bit harsh on. But I fear as I was looking at the playoff picture, the only time like Patrick Mahomes is Josh Allen's kryptonite. If Patrick Mahomes isn't in the playoffs, yeah, is this the chance for the Bills to actually go all the way this year? And like the Bills have been in those positions time and time and time again, but again, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. But if they're not gonna be there, I don't know. I completely agree with you. Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs and the Bills. I mean, like they they will win in the playoffs every single time if they make it. Yeah, yeah. But I just don't know if I'm sold on the Bills this year at all. I just like, you know, they they've pulled out some good wins, they've pulled out some horrible losses. They lose to bad teams, they lose to they they beat good teams and they lose to bad teams. It's like the weirdest. It's like the Cowboys. It literally is like the Cowboys. It's listen, if it weren't for Josh Allen carrying the the team on his back, James Cook being as fierce as he is, like I don't know really what the Bills have. I don't know if I trust them. I feel like they're very shaky this year. I don't know if I like see them taking it far. That's how I feel.
Speaker 1I feel like yeah, I feel like the Bills, the Lions, the Eagles, and the Chiefs, like those four teams specifically, people relied on their last two years reputation for expectations this year and are looking more at reputation than they are at what's actually going on on the field for their predictions. And I kind of agree with you that like I like the Bills, I like Josh Allen, but I haven't like watching them has not been like the high, I mean the snow game, of course, but that's because it's a snow game. You could put any jerseys on the field and I would have liked to watch it. But I don't think they're doing something so incredible that really like at the beginning of the season, I was like, they're who I think's gonna go and who I think deserves it. And now I'm like, there's other teams that I would pick above them based on like gameplay and what's actually happening on the field.
Speaker 3The only reason why I like mention them to go far is because when you look at like the big four, the Ravens, the Chiefs, and maybe the Lions, when you look at those teams, those teams have had like the same like game script for a very long time. And this has been the season has been detrimental in terms of if they've gone through injuries or whatever, the Bills have they're they're not, they haven't really been that injury prone. Like they've been the same this year and last year. So I think if because of previous uh, you know, seasons and previous history with the Bills and they've still made it to a certain point and beating out competition because of who Josh Allen is, that's kind of the only reason why I mentioned it. And the fact that the Bills aren't gonna have to go through the gauntlet of those big four teams, but it might be a new gauntlet when you face, you know, talk about teams like the Broncos and the Patriots. So I'm not sure, we'll see. I always make these like state of the league videos where I talk about like where I see teams like that week in time. And it's always the Bills. I'm like, these are teams that are not that good, but I could totally see in the Super Bowl, and the Bills are always in that list. Where I'm like, you guys literally like you aren't like that, but somehow I feel like you're gonna make it. Like, yeah, it's because Josh Allen. It's because Josh Allen, he's a he's just amazing, like he's gonna find a way to carry that team and like find a win. And at the end of the day, it's like all that matters is that your team is winning. Yeah, record matters, and that's about it. Like, and that's the difference between college football and NFL. The NFL is more fair. Don't get me started on college football. I know, I know you have so many opinions. I know you have so many opinions. We might have to do, we might have to like do a special episode and talk about it. Yeah, we can totally do a part two because there's nothing I love more than talking about it. Yeah, I could go, I love it.
Speaker 1Well, Allie, thank you so much. It was so fun to have you. You were the perfect first guest for this episode. I think you added so much to it and so easy and fun to chat with you. Plug your socials where people can find you and look at all your predictions, keep up with you.
Speaker 3Yes. So you can find me on TikTok at AliAnthony with two Ys, A-L-L-I-E A-N-T-H-O-N-Y-Y, because Ally Anthony with one Y was taken. So that's me on TikTok. And then on Instagram, I'm just Ally Anthony, but my Instagram is like so boring. I'm trying to post more football stuff on my Instagram. Also, I just wanted to give you guys a shout out. You guys are crushing it. The show is so good, and like this was such a fun and welcoming environment to be a part of and like just keep going at it. And I'm so like happy to be a part of this and thankful that you guys gave me the opportunity to talk into a microphone. My favorite thing to do. Yeah, you guys are the best. And I feel like we need to recoup, like, everything's gonna change in a few weeks. So let's recoup and we can do this all over again.
Speaker 1Yeah, yeah, let's do it and see if our predictions are right and and the whole nine. Thank you so much, everyone. Thanks for listening to the game, and we'll see you next time. Love you bye.
Speaker 3Bye. You a batty baby. You gotta own it on a styling of grace.
Speaker 1You gotta own it.
