Hi, thank you for tuning in to the Brother Musician Podcast. I'm your host, rico Anthony. Are you thinking about leaving your current situation that you're in musically? Are you thinking about leaving? Let's talk about some of the reasons that you may be considering leaving and let's discuss whether or not it may be the best thing for you to leave.

Speaker 1:

I do believe that things are seasonal. You're not going to be doing anything forever. You may do something for a few years and then you may move on to the next assignment. One of the first reasons you may leave is stunted growth. You've gotten to the place that you're not growing anymore. This is your limit. This is your cap. You want to challenge yourself more musically and it's not happening where you are. You want to be around more seasoned singers, more seasoned musicians. So your growth you feel like your growth is stunning. I get that. I've been there before as well.

Speaker 1:

Sometimes in that situation, it may be the best thing for you to leave, but then sometimes it may be just because you're not challenging yourself. There are so many different tools that you can use online to help with your growth. It's almost impossible to really blame the place that you're in, but sometimes it can be the place that you're in, if that makes sense. It's just the mindset of the people that are around you that don't care about growing in the way that you do, so sometimes, in that situation, it's the best thing for you to leave. The next reason you may be thinking about leaving is there has been some type of offense. Someone is offended, you may be offended, and then somebody may have said something to you crazy that you just can't deal with. Some type of offense has taken place. If that's the case, before you leave, before you make the decision, mend the offense you know, apologize, have the conversation that you need that you need to have, so that way the offense doesn't follow you in the next place that you go.

Speaker 1:

You always want to make sure that you leave. If you're going to leave, you want to make sure that you leave right. You want to leave in good repair. You want to leave in good standing. Now, if you decide that you're still going to leave after mending the offense, I will write a letter thanking them for my years of service or however long you've been there, and then also stating my why of why I'm leaving, and then also handing that letter to whoever's in charge. I just want to make sure that all of my ground is covered. So the next place that I go, I'm good, and the last reason you may be thinking about leaving is pay.

Speaker 1:

If your money doesn't add up, if your responsibility has increased but your pay has not increased, then you're probably thinking about hey, this is not what I signed up for, this is too much. They haven't even considered me for a raise. It's time for me to go, and in some cases that's probably the best thing. If they haven't considered it, it's probably not in the budget. But if you talk to the person in charge and you know if you do it the correct way, if you write a letter and if you state what you've accomplished, what you've been able to do, what you've been able to achieve at that particular location, more than likely they're not going to want to let you go. But you want to make sure that you've done all that you can do on your, on your end, because if you're complaining about pay and you're late, or you're complaining about pay and you don't show up, you're complaining about pay and you don't know the music. You're complaining about pay and you just have where your attitude is not good, they're not even considering you for a raise anyway. They're probably just using you until your contract is up so that they can replace you with somebody else. So you kind of want to make sure that you're covering your grounds in regards to all of those things.

Now, leaving is something serious. So when you leave a place and you go to a new place, if you haven't dealt with the issues of even why you left the last place, more than likely you're going to face them when you get to the next place. I just want you to consider that every place that you serve is probably not going to be permanent. Everything's not going to be forever. You may serve for 30 years, and then it's time to do something different. I just want to make sure that your whys are consistent with your answers and, before you leave, most importantly, pray about it. Pray about it. Talk to God about it. The grass isn't greener on the other side. Sometimes it is, though Sometimes it's greener on the other side.

Sometimes what you needed was a fresh start. Sometimes what you needed was to regroup. Sometimes what you needed was a fresh start. Sometimes what you needed was to regroup, to relook at what you're doing. You need a fresh situation, and I get that more than anybody else. I promise you I do, but I want you to make sure that you understand your why, why you're leaving, and you can explain it. And it makes sense First person has to make sense to is you.
