It Begins With You
It Begins With You
From: Aimee (First Year Marketing Student)
After completing her first year at Manchester Met, Aimee shares her advice for coming out of your shell and the moment she knew she wanted a career in Marketing.
Hi, my name is Aimee and I'm studying Marketing.
If you're starting in university in September, my biggest advice would be take every opportunity that comes to you. I know you're going to be in a new environment and you're going to be scared. But remember that firstly, you're in the same boat as everyone, but at the end of the day, it's how you choose to take those experiences.
I took the Creative Digital Expert with Sharp Futures. It was a three week workshop and it was basically around creative digital marketing. I do content creation and all that stuff. And when I did that workshop, I was like, oh my gosh, I want to be in this industry. Despite how scary it may be, take those opportunities because it's those opportunities that are going to add to your CV and put you in a better position by the time you're graduating.
I am someone who's quite, well, I was quite introverted in the past, and you know, when you're in university, you're, you're forced to talk to new people whether you like it or not. And that was really the first time where, you know, I was by myself and I was like, I must talk to people, and I did. I made a group, a really good group of friends. Those girls were one of the best, some of the best people I've met.
Don't worry. You'll be fine. Don't overthink things. Don't feel pressured and rushed to learn everything all at once. It is something that comes with time. So although I'm speaking, don't forget, I'm speaking from experience, I've been in Manchester for two years now. So it will come with time.
Just remember to have fun. And I think also prioritize having a good social life and work life balance. So, you know, while you’re getting, getting to go to all those parties, make sure you're also spending time equally on your work. And, yeah, you'll smash it. And I hope you have a good time.
