It Begins With You

"Everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone's scared. Everyone's wanting to make friends."
If you want to settle in and make the most of a new environment, listen to Chloe's advice for new students.
My name is Chloe, and I'm studying Web and User Experience Design.
Everyone is in the same boat as you. Everyone's scared. Everyone's wanting to make friends. There are going to be people looking out for you. All the staff and students are so incredibly helpful. If you need help, just ask. There's no harm in it.
I was really scared about living with people I'd never met before, because I stayed in halls in my first year. But the team at both my halls, I stayed in Cavendish, and The Union were so, so supportive. They were so incredible.
And I found it so easy to, to settle in and make friends. Because of all the events and stuff they put on, it got me to mingle with people I wouldn't have normally mingled with. Yeah, it was just really, really helpful.
In my first year, The Union hosted quiz nights every week. I went to those with some people from my halls, and it got us to be a really, really close group of friends. The quiz nights were just so much fun. We weren't really going for, you know, winning the quiz or anything. It was just a really nice social event.
For most people, it's going to be a new place, new environment. Explore the city. Yeah. Just get to know it. Don't, don't stress too hard.
