Okay, so tonight we are talking about Genesis chapter 49. And I was digging around, looking to find some information on the internet that would just help me bring this to life. Um, because you know, there's a lot in Genesis 49. It's a not that long of a chapter, only has a total of 33 verses, but it is um Jacob um prophesying over his children before he gets ready to breathe this last by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. So, you know, in the first verse of it says, Jacob called his sons, and this is in the message translation, and said, Gather around. I want to tell you what you can expect in the days to come. Come together, listen, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel, your father. But I on verse two, it says, Listen, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel, your father. Notice the transition from Jacob to Israel in verse 2. Um, Reuben, you are my firstborn, my strength, my first proof of my manhood, and that at the top in honor and at the top in power. However, however, like a bucket of water spilled, you'll be at the top no more, because you climbed into your father's marriage bed, mounting that couch, and you defiled it. So Reuben was the firstborn, which means he had the rights of the firstborn, the leadership of the firstborn. He should have received the double portion of the firstborn. But his sin that he thought probably wouldn't find him out, probably wouldn't meet him when it came time to get the blessing, was actually there. And his daddy knew about it, and his daddy then spoke of it at that point in time. So he was supposed to be the first, but he ended up being the last because of that sin that he had uh committed by sleeping with his um daddy's wife. And then it says Simeon and Levi are two of a kind, ready to fight at the drop of a hat. I don't want anything to do with their vendettas, want no part in their bitter feuds. They kill men and fits a temper, slash oxen on the whim, a curse on their uncontrolled anger and their indiscriminate wrath. I'll throw them out with the trash, I'll shred and scatter them like confetti throughout Israel. So, same thing going down with Simeon and Levi. That sin that they committed, now they was avenging their own because something bad happened to their sister, and they were avenging their sister, but they did not confer with their daddy, they did not figure out how he wanted to handle that situation. They went in their rage and their anger and killed all those people after um the rape that happened to their sister, and that sin actually came up and showed up in their inheritance. Uh, so they got a negative thing spoken over them because of what they had done. Now we go down to Judah and it says, You, Judah, you know, your brothers will praise you. Judah actually means praise. Your fingers on your fingers on your enemy's throat while your brothers honor you. Your alliance cub, Judah, home fresh from the kill, my son. Look at him, crops like a lion, king of beasts. Who dares mess with him? The scepter shall not leave Judah. He'll keep a firm grip on the command staff until the ultimate ruler comes, and the nations obey him. He'll tie up his donkey to the grapevine, his purebred prize to a sturdy branch. He will wash his shirt in wine and his cloak in the blood of grapes. His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk. Now, of course, we know this is a prophecy that is pointing toward Jesus. But you know Judah is not clean either. Judah did some bad things as well. But in the transition of time, Judah matured. Judah found repentance. Judah actually went into kind of like a leadership realm. Because at first, you know, Judah was part in that situation with Joseph when he was the one to say, Hey, let's sell him. But then he came to the rescue at the end when he was trying to come and save his brothers when they were caught up in the prison. So it he had changed. He grew, he matured. So that repentance, that changing, actually opened up his lineage to be in the lineage of kings, in the lineage of the Messiah. Zebulun settles down on the seashore. He's a safe harbor for ships right alongside him. The next few people are just going to get a very small uh thing spoken over them. Issachar's one tough donkey crouching between the corrals. When they saw how good the place was, how pleasant the country, he gave up his freedom and went to work as a slave. Dan will handle matters of justice for his people. He will hold his own just fine among the tribes of Israel. Dan is only a small snake in the grass, a lethal serpent in ambush by the road, while he strikes a horse on the hill and brings this huge rider crashing down. I will wait and hope for your salvation, O God. It's interesting to me in verse 18. After he is speaking these prophecies over his sons, verse 18 says, I wait and hope for your salvation, O God. It's like that is inserted right in the middle of all of this. It was just very interesting to me. Then he goes on to Gad says, Gad will be attacked by bandits, but he will trip them up. Asher will become famous for rich foods, candies, and sweets fit for kings. Naphtali is a deer running free that gives birth to lovely fawns. Joseph, now here comes Joseph, is a wild donkey, a wild donkey by a spring, spirited donkeys on a hill, the archers with malice attacked, shooting their hate-tipped arrows. His sons. That was called against him, who hated him, who persecuted him. But he held steady under fire, Joseph, his bowl firm, his arms limber, with the backing of the champion of Jacob. And the champion of Jacob is in uh capital letters because it's talking about God, uh, the shepherd, God, the rock of Israel, God, the God of your father, may he help you, and may the strong God, may he give you his blessings, blessings tumbling out of the skies, blessings bursting up from the earth, blessings of breast and room. May the blessings of your father exceed the blessings of the ancient mountains, surpass the delights of the eternal hills. May they rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the one consecrated among his brothers. Now, Joseph, of course, we know he was favored. He was the one with that cloak of many colors, he was the one that went through all these tests and trials and came out triumphant to be able to come back and save his bloodline from death and famine that was happening in the land as a result of the dreams that were given to Pharaoh, that he was able to interpret. He was the governor over the land, and they were the ones that had to bow down to him as the scripture had foretold. So he's seen prophecy happen before. And because he was held up, because he was protected, because he was covered and um favored by God, he was able to receive this blessing and this big, huge blessing that has been pronounced and spoken over him. No matter what the test, no matter what the trial, no matter what the situation, he came out on top. And that's us too. Praise God. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf. All morning he gorges on his keel. At evening, he divides up what's left over. So after that, that is his conclusion of speaking over his twelve sons. And then it says, All these are tribes of Israel, the 12 tribes, and this is what their father said to them as he blessed them, blessing each one with his own special farewell blessing. Each one of us has a prophecy, each one of us has a destiny, each one of us has a plan and a purpose for our life that God has spoken over us, intends for us, or is revealing, unfolding to us. And as we continue to stay in the presence of God, as we continue to listen to God and stay with him, he will tell us and show us things to come. Now, of course, like Pastor always says, He's not going to give you A through Z and then you know, A A through Z Z and then do going to numbers because you will run out of letters. We're not getting it like that because guess what? Then you're not walking by faith, you're definitely walking by sight. But when you will get that first step, and as you continue to walk in those steps, those order steps, those fixed steps, then God is able to reveal more to you because in those steps you are unfolding and you are becoming the person that he needs you to be to receive all the things that he has for you. That destiny that is way far off that he's not talking to you about right now. Because if you knew that's where he wanted to take you, you probably would back off the path and go another direction. You'll probably turn and run away. But no, he wants to get you in that place bit by bit, building your character, building you up as a strong edifice, as a strong house with that firm foundation anchored and rooted in Jesus, so that he is able to put more on you and you are able to withstand it as you go through each uh test and trial. So then after that, it says, and then he instructed them, I'm about to be gathered to my people. Bury me with my fathers in the cave, which is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, the cave in the field of Matpilah, facing Mamre in the land of Canaan, the field Abraham bought from Ephron the Hittite for a burial plot. Abraham and his wife Sarah were buried there, Isaac and his wife Rebecca were buried there. I also buried Leah there. And the field and the cave were bought from the Hittites. He commanded them, he instructed him, he told him exactly what to do. Then he finished instructing his sons, pulled up his feet into bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people. We don't have to go out sick, we don't have to go out with disease, we don't have to go out with pain. We can just go out, we can just decide that I've ran my race, I've finished my course, and I'm ready to go on to glory. We can just decide to gather everybody around like he did, tell them exactly what the words there is that they have to come on walk through or what the blessing it is that the Lord is prophesying through us to them, and then we can breathe our less and go on to glory. You know, God does not uh ordain sickness and disease for us, he didn't give it to us for us to be uh have a lesson, no type of anxiety, worry, depression is uh gifted unto us. Remember, we talked about that he gave us a spirit of power, spirit of love, and a spirit of a sound mind. So all the blessings are coming down upon us because of what God is doing in us and through us. And then and in this chapter, we've also seen all the things that happened, and as a result of that, uh Jacob was able to take those things and prophesy over his sons. Now, of course, um, you know, they all ended up being blessed. They all ended up having good things happen to them, but just understand the severity of God and the goodness of God at the same time. You know, you have to um come to a place of repentance to even be able to receive Jesus as your Lord and Savior. You have to come to a place where you know that you recognize that you are a sinner, you are in a fallen state, that you can't cleanse and wash yourself, that you need a savior. And then when you receive Jesus as Lord, as savior, then he cleanses us and washes us and makes us right and gives us his righteousness in the great exchange. But until you come to that place where you can understand that, until your heart is open so that you can receive that word, then you are actually trying to carry your own sin, which was never meant for you to bear. So we as we understand these things and as we walk in this word, and as we walk with these things, and as we walk with Jesus, then more is revealed to us so that we can share this same word with others. And with that, I'm gonna yield.
