SPEAKER_01

I mean, I like to come out, you know, to some applause.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. I'll give you another one. Hey, let's go. Get it going. What up? How y'all feeling? Welcome back. Uh, we are once again late this week. Yeah, we're coming out with them late episodes. We might just start hitting y'all on Sunday mornings instead of Saturday. I hope that's all right. Uh, we still got the info for you. I hope you have your notepads and pens. Uh I want to introduce myself. My name is Rome Enterprise. Give it up for me. Hey. Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm in the building and I want to uh introduce my lovely, my beautiful, my rosy red co-host, Ashley Boo.

SPEAKER_02

That's me.

SPEAKER_00

Give it up for Boozy. All right, all right. Welcome back, y'all.

SPEAKER_01

And uh rainy afternoon. It's so lazy. I love it.

SPEAKER_00

It's uh it's a lazy, lazy weekend, although it's very busy. Oh, yeah. It seemed like it's nonstop for me this weekend.

SPEAKER_01

And next week is gonna be absolute insanity for me too. I don't even know. We're gonna have to like stop lives in order to record next week sometime.

SPEAKER_00

Just stockpile, huh? Because I leave once again, I go on my little uh holiday, how they like to say it. Uh yeah, we're gonna take a hiatus. Yeah, so to be I'll be gone for two weeks. So uh I wish we couldn't um stockpile a bit of a show for y'all, but we not we don't have it together.

SPEAKER_01

We're just gonna we're gonna call it early for season two.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. And then uh you can always revisit all the earlier episodes of this season, which I think is fantastic. Give it up for us. We went a lot of places. Uh can't even name them all, but uh go back and uh listen.

SPEAKER_01

Beautiful spot this week.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Can't wait to talk about that one, yeah. We you know how we do, we'll tell you all about it. Um yeah, uh please go back and visit all of the previous episodes. Uh find out all the places, the hidden gems, and all of the the lovely spots here in this beautiful city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Give it up for New Orleans, please give it up for New Orleans.

SPEAKER_01

I do love it here, man. We do have such a beautifully rich culture, and I mean the food is unstoppable.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they're saying that we should pack it up and just get out of here. Can you believe that they never, never. Yeah, I don't know how that it's gonna happen. I I don't know what the the I heard the word out on the on the street and uh the internet about New Orleans uh with the coastal Oh yeah, it's going down hard. Coastal plains, yeah, that we going down, we should just pack up and move and get out of here because by the end of this uh century they don't see the city being around and I disagree, I gotta say.

SPEAKER_01

I mean You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

I disagree.

SPEAKER_01

I can only you can you you have to look at science though. Yeah, but I think we'll be here. Is that what's going on in Decatur right now?

SPEAKER_00

No. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Because I know, man, that block party's tomorrow. That's uh Sunday, the 24th. They're having that two block party because they've been doing construction on the the water mains and everything and everything on the street. It's just been a total shit show for the past eight plus months. Like businesses are closing, they've got no business, they've got nothing. It's absolutely crazy. So they're throwing a fucking block party. Just to raise some money.

SPEAKER_00

So y'all get out there, give it up with them for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, get down to Decatur. I think it's the 900 to 1100 block, if I'm not mistaken.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, get down there, support all of the little businesses that's in that part of town that took a hit over the last eight months. Do the road construction and rebuilding or whatever they they doing. I don't know if they might be able to do it.

SPEAKER_01

And we're entering slow season right now, too, so it's it's even worse.

SPEAKER_00

So it's imperative to get out there and uh and get to your your local favorite restaurants, your bars, to your small uh even snowball stands and whatnot. Get out there and support because you know everybody's uh we want to see those businesses around. Um we gotta be able to do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, they've been here forever, some of them. It's it's upset. There's my song.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, about time. You know, it just takes a little second. Yeah, this is your favorite podcast coming out of New Orleans, Louisiana. It is roaming the streets.

SPEAKER_01

Whip boobs.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, smooth boobs, smooth boobs, smooth boobs.

SPEAKER_01

You weren't expecting that, were you?

SPEAKER_00

I wasn't. Hey, we love to have y'all here every week. So thank y'all. Thank y'all for coming back for sure. We got a few more bits of information. Um, like we was mentioning earlier, go out to support that that uh Dumain. What street is it?

SPEAKER_01

Decatur.

SPEAKER_00

Decatur, I'm sorry. Dumain crosses Decatur at some point. So get down there and support the small businesses. If you out of town listening to this uh from far away, we appreciate y'all. Thank you for all our uh out of town listeners and non-locals, but y'all local to our heart. We appreciate y'all listening every week. Oh, yeah. Uh our numbers look okay right now, but if y'all put the word out um and tell a friend about our lovely, lovely podcast, we would appreciate it. Get them to listen in, get involved. You know what I mean? Maybe go to our donate page, see how you can support our show. Thank you to our all our thank you to all of our supporters. Um, all our supporters out there, we appreciate y'all.

SPEAKER_01

You know who you are, the part of self, Leonel, Frank, uh, who am I missing? Shit. That's Jesse.

SPEAKER_00

Jesse. Yeah, shout out to y'all all the time.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, and indeed, Dave.

SPEAKER_00

Diamond D.

SPEAKER_01

I cannot forget Diamond Dave. Can't forget Diamond Dave.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, thank you to all of y'all. Every week we try to shout y'all out. If you want your name, shout it out, be a part of that list, man. Go to our uh donate page.

SPEAKER_01

Did I tell you I ran into Diamond Dave?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Outside of pal.

SPEAKER_00

So wow.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, for uh Carrie's birthday, the Porter, Carrie Porter. Oh, all right, nice. We all went to Venetia's and uh Yeah, we talked about it last year. Yeah, we ran into yeah, we ran into Diamond Dave and his wife Maria and uh Brian and Nancy. They were all having dinner and uh I pooped my head in. I was like, look at these degenerates.

SPEAKER_00

Nah, give it up for them. That's our people. Shout out to all our supporters, all our listeners, every single one of y'all for coming back this week and uh kicking it with Rome and Booze. We love y'all. We appreciate it.

SPEAKER_01

Um what you stepping on over there?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that that's just a little house uh mark.

SPEAKER_01

A little house mark.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, stopped at the El Pavo Riel. Hell yeah. Yeah, shout out to El Pavo. Y'all know them some good marks. Good marks. Uh and our our favorite bartender was there. I forgot our name.

SPEAKER_01

She's sweet. Uh she's really good. Why are you gonna put me? Why are you gonna put me on the spot like that?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we're just gonna skip over. Hey, we forget names over here. We the name forgetters. If I forget your name, uh I it's I don't know. I don't know what to say. I blame both.

SPEAKER_01

Look, they know me at the bar because like like we call it my fatal flaw is I cannot remember people's names. I don't know why. It could be because I'm such a you know partaker in the um the herbals. Um but my name memory bank is just it's full. I can't remember any more names I've done.

SPEAKER_00

Like sometimes it helps that that the person to me, I I I think some people look like who that what their name is. For some reason, I think like that's how I remember people because I think you look like a Frank or you look like a Jenny or whoever it is, and it's like, yeah, that's how I kind of remember people by I don't know their features.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know if they have anything to do with their name, but uh mentally I mean you're synonymous with your handlebar handlebar mustache.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my gosh. No, none of us can talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

I am I am brain mushed today, by the way. Um I I picked up a shift, a Friday day shift, and now granted it wasn't a very busy shift at all, but um it just has totally thrown me off. Like today doesn't feel like it's Saturday. Like, I'm just I'm like, uh do I have to go to work tomorrow? Oh, what is today? I'm just totally thrown off. It just feels weird for me today.

SPEAKER_00

Um you had a good week though.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was good, it was solid.

SPEAKER_00

Good.

SPEAKER_01

Had some fun, got a little tooth gym.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah. Hey, look at her bling it over there. Get up, give it up for booze. Look, booze with the tooth gym.

SPEAKER_01

I sent a picture to my niece, my 16-year-old niece, and she's like, Oh my gosh. She's like, How do they do that? She thought I was just the absolute coolest. I was like, God damn right I am.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. T T Boo's got it going on. Got a little bling. I'm just noticing it from a little bit. It's a little ping-to-bling. Yeah, that's nice. Uh, where'd you get it?

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so can I tell you why I got it?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, why did you get it?

SPEAKER_01

So we talked about it a few weeks ago. Our friend, uh, one of my coworkers, Charla, she was in a um benefit um beauty pageant kind of style thing over at the Saturn bar. And um there was a huge silent auction, and one of the things that was up for bid was a tooth gem and tattoo. And um, hold on one second. Uh AC, the AC kicked on.

SPEAKER_00

I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_01

Um and I was like, okay, you know what? I was like, I'll throw, I was like, I put a I put a number on it, but I had to leave, so I told the porters who were there as well. I was like, look, this is my top number. I was like, at at you know, close. I said, go put me down for that number if it's not, you know, taken up by them. By the time I left, I think it was still right at about 200 bucks. And I still had a little weight to go on it, and I didn't get it. And I was like, man, I was really kind of excited fucking that tooth jam. And then I saw another one of my coworkers, Nikita, who she has a bunch as well.

SPEAKER_00

Right. She's like Nikita burrito.

SPEAKER_01

Um, she's moving to Japan soon. Y'all, I'm so proud of her. She's so she's the greatest. Um, but she's like, Yeah, she's like, I just do mine myself. I was like, what?

SPEAKER_00

I was like, so she has a little kitten in the light in the kitchen.

SPEAKER_01

Me and Tanya Porter went over to Nikita's on Tuesday. Got tooth.

SPEAKER_00

That's a way to turn up. Get a tooth gym. Get a little bling in your life.

SPEAKER_01

That's cute.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I had a I had uh two of them at one point. I put them on my fang teeth, and it just tore my lip up. I was just like, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, mine's on my left upper um canine. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I was like, my fang tooth.

SPEAKER_01

I kind of like fang tooth better.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my uh my Dracula tooth. Um anyway, was it realized it wasn't for me? Mine finally fell off. I don't know if I swallowed it or if I spit it out. Yeah, I don't know if it's a lot of things. I do think about it.

SPEAKER_01

I was thinking the other day though. I was like, man, I don't know if this is necessarily the smartest thing. I was like, this is some like little sheen freaking like gem that I got like some like how much, how much, how many, how many toxic metals and petroleum-based products are in this little baby gem that's in my mouth, just like absorbed. I was like, this thing's gonna come off in like two months or whatever, and I'm gonna have this black spot embedded on my tooth.

SPEAKER_00

You will have a look, you will have a little bit of residue from the glue, yeah. So you're gonna have to get that. That's fine. I get my teeth cleaned every six months. So they'll do a little gem. Um put it on the Instagram if you got if you hate my face right now. People can see it, see what we're talking about. Uh yeah, well, great week. I had a great week myself, uh productive. Uh I feel like we got a lot done. Um and I'm speaking of at the farm. And if you need veggies, holla at River Corn.

SPEAKER_01

Y'all got so many veg, dude. Seriously, hit them up. Yeah, those cubes were fantastic, and that's the only thing. That and that spring mix you gave me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, there was uh a lot of veggies coming out of that uh out of that farm. So check them out when y'all get a second. Um, yeah, so uh really productive week and just getting the the full feel of having uh uh a nurse as a daughter now. I'm still trying to get used to that because can't say shit. I have a college student anymore. She's in school for nursing. No, she's done. She's a nurse. She got a big girl job. Big girl job. Did she start yet? No, she takes a test in July.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00

And then uh from July, she will apply to um the VA hospital, I believe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but they basically told her she has a job.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, she has she has to work in that thing. So um, so yeah, shout out to Paige. Congratulations once again. And to all the graduates out there.

SPEAKER_01

There's a lot of them. I got some I got some graduation cake in my kitchen right now. My neighbor came over, Sanedra's partner, Laura. Um, we were out on the porch um um speaking in clouds. Yeah, and she's like, Do you want some cake? I was like, Hell yeah, I want some cake.

SPEAKER_00

Especially at the cake.

SPEAKER_01

She brought over a huge tupperware. There's like four servings for the cake. You goddamn right, I ate a whole big old chunk of that shit.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, give me that cake. Uh you can't leave me around like cake.

SPEAKER_01

It was my favorite too. It was yellow with chocolate icing.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, all right.

SPEAKER_01

That's my favorite. Oh, really? That's your favorite? Yeah, just like a basic ass cake.

SPEAKER_00

I like I like wedding cake. Uh for some reason. I love a good wedding cake, or um, I mean, I eat all types of cakes, putting pies and uh, yeah, take a drink, motherfuckers. And uh uh, you know, pies and like cobblers. So um we got a lot of blackberries coming online right now. Oh, I love blackberries. So I'm gonna cobbler going.

SPEAKER_01

I definitely want some blackberries.

SPEAKER_00

All right, give it up. Ah hey, shout out to all our local farmers, everybody out there growing something.

SPEAKER_01

Our one little bush out back has produced three blackberries.

SPEAKER_00

Oh yeah, they get they'll produce more of the old day to the city.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's it's brand, it's a brand new baby.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um so it's all good. Plant something, y'all. Plant something, watch it grow. Uh, it's fun, fun to do.

SPEAKER_01

I got a new Monstera. Look, it's a little variegated Monstera. Look how pretty she is.

SPEAKER_00

Leaves are shining. Uh Booze's inside inside garden is beautiful as uh as always. Lots of great indoor plants. Yeah, and they all got some colors. Yeah, you can even do um indoor in succulents and whatnot just to get started.

SPEAKER_01

Herbs and some kitchen light.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just to get you started, but just get going with something. Have your have you something fresh growing at your house that you can throw on your food when you're cooking. Uh it makes the food taste a whole lot better. Speaking of good food, man, we went over to Rodney's uh last.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you hit the crawfish boil. It's looked very successful, and he's such a God, he's such a good human being.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's great. He opens up his house and let you know people come in. He's the mayor of Mid City, baby. Yeah, and it's right on the bayou. We love, love, love going over there. So shout out to Rodney once again. And I saw one of his signs was missing. He he said uh he posted on Facebook like a sign was missing that apparently I don't know if it was in his house. It was it was like his uh butt master, I think it was the trophy, huh? The trophy, the butt master sign, but it they figured it all out. Yeah, it showed back up. Okay, good. It was all squabbled. You know, I don't know the inside story. Apparently, there'll be a po uh porch uh party about the side.

SPEAKER_01

I spent a lot of time during COVID on that porch. Yeah, so my friend Cindy, she lives next door. Yeah, she lives next door. So um we'd all we'd all like just you know hang out. We'd all bring our folding chairs and sit, you know, six feet apart or whatever and just social distance and somebody would make jello. I like I made jello shots a couple times. There was a time or two they went terribly, terribly wrong because we tried some fresh fruit ones and it totally it was the most disgusting things we've ever had.

SPEAKER_00

But it was a good time. Shout out to Rodney again for having us over that was by you.

SPEAKER_01

I know that sounds weird saying you had a good time during COVID, but like COVID really kind of gave everybody a chance to slow down and appreciate each other. Uh and I really value that time of just connecting with people and just people were really doing like front yard gatherings instead of going to the bars or the concerts, the porch concerts were you know basically what you see a lot now during Jazz Fest, you know, is just somebody having a a a little three or four piece brass band on their front porch or you know, wheeling their piano out their front door and just playing for a bunch of people just to have something going on and look forward to something. And it was really kind of a beautiful time. And like I said, I know that sounds really strange.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, especially in this city because a lot of markets started happening and like you know, it was just so many things. Uh people started to create things. You you had uh a lot of ice cream that was being produced out of the city just uh from people being at home all the time. A lot of people made were making ice cream. It was just like wow, what a wonderful thing. And all these crafts and goods and beer, uh not beer, uh breads and uh you know, pastas and all of these different everything. I mean, all the art was happening in the markets, yeah. And and the same thing was happening with the music. Music was evolving as far as like being more accessible to just go and play in the neighborhood on a porch, you know, like really good bands.

SPEAKER_01

So it it it did more good, but it brought out everyone's creativity.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we don't we don't give it credit for it. So shout out to all the artists and the creators who came up with something doing the pandemic and made made a good situation out of it.

SPEAKER_01

And on the grand scale, you had in 21, you had the crew of house floats for Mardi Gras because there was no Mardi Gras. And look at all that. I that was such a good time, you know what I mean? It's a year post yeah, um, the initial kind of COVID-19 drop or whatever, but everybody's kind of over it in a way, but we still can't have these huge gatherings. So my friends, I've talked about them, the Loonies, we we all got together and we all got on our bikes. We dressed up in in like costumes and things like that. Yeah, I did the whole day before. And we just took our bikes and we just rode around Uptown, St. Charles, Mag, everywhere in between, and just checked out all the house floats.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it was beautiful. That was such a good time. And it gave Couldn't do that again.

SPEAKER_01

It'll never happen again.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, to recreate that. But I I think we could, but if it wouldn't it didn't mean as much when we couldn't really have body grad as it did to direct to decorate your house now. I mean, I think the decorations are still cool, but now it's like uh jazz festing in place. Yeah, yeah. It was is with the that moment is over. That's just a part of history now, and it shouldn't be really be created.

SPEAKER_01

And I'm looking at, you know, the further uh uh detached we could become from it, the more fond I remember certain things about it. But yeah, like I said, I'm not I'm not trying to make light of a global pandemic by any stretch.

SPEAKER_00

I'm just trying to remember the came out of it. I was hoping that wouldn't would stick around a little longer. I think like out of all of the the the changes that happened, like outdoor seating and having like being able to take over the front street, yeah, like some restaurants were doing. I think that's great too. Like I think that was a good thing because yeah, I mean it spreads everybody out, and I think it's I think it looks cool. I think it's a cool look in the city, even when it was happening all over the city. It's really cool in New York, too, you know. Yeah, that's what I mean. Like having those little outdoor seating areas. Um, and it adds it adds more money to the restaurant and gives them more service. Right.

SPEAKER_01

You you up you you basically double your occupancy, you know what I mean? So, you know, it is what it is. Anyways, let's talk about more fun things. I don't know how we kind of ended there.

SPEAKER_00

Sorry, y'all.

SPEAKER_01

You know what? It is Greek Fest this weekend. I'm gonna try and go hit it up a little later.

SPEAKER_00

Greek fest is happening. Uh that's right next door to a good friend of mine. His mom still lives next door to that church. It's the Holy Trinity Cathedral. Yeah, I've I've lived I've been around for the Greek Fest ever since it started, I believe. Yeah. In the 80s, I want to say.

SPEAKER_01

I mean it's it's right there in Gentili, you know, right on Alan Tucson and Bayou St. John. You know, so you can't miss it. It's the only cathedral.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, on the bayou. Oh on the bayou. Yeah, right there. So give it up for that. Greek fest.

SPEAKER_01

That's it's fun. Do you I mean, I'm sure you've been a million times.

SPEAKER_00

I've I'll be a hundred percent honest with you. Out of every single year I've ever seen it, uh I've been maybe once. What? Maybe once. And that that's just it always comes at like at a super busy time of the season. There's no excuse to not go over there, but I just I haven't been in a while. It's been a while, so I need to make it a point to go this this uh this week.

SPEAKER_01

The feta fries and the baklava Sunday. Ugh, bruh.

SPEAKER_00

Baklava. Can I tell you how much of a sketo?

SPEAKER_01

So one of my um stepdad's best friends, his wife was from Turkey and for crawfish boils and whatever, when we were very Very little.

SPEAKER_00

Y'all get the baklava?

SPEAKER_01

She would make homemade Turkish baklava to bring to the and like I just remember falling in love with this honey, syrupy, crispy, nutty. Like it is seriously in my upper echelons of desserts. Yeah, it is by some bakl, a good piece of baklava, change and look, like store-bought frozen uh phyllo dough works just fucking fine, dude. You just gotta properly butter, you're gonna go through so much better. So I've made um savory, uh I call it like a like a Cajun baklava where I do it savory with boudin and cracklens and uh like three pepper spicy honey.

SPEAKER_00

Nice. That sounds delicious. It's funny. Even though I don't eat pork, that sounds amazing. Give it up for booty.

SPEAKER_01

I made it for the the bar Christmas party one time.

SPEAKER_00

That sounds great.

SPEAKER_01

It's fantastic.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Well, shout out to you.

SPEAKER_01

It's lovely.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, well, get out there to the Greek fest. Make sure you get out there if you've never uh experienced that, um, and see what different foods out there that you might like and try a piece of baklava. Yeah, try some lamb, try it, try everything.

SPEAKER_01

And you can get everything in bulk too. So they sell like you can go get like slabs of feta and like jars of olives and you know, like yeah, you can they've got like a little kind of kind of a mini market. But you can get um, they've got dinners with like the grape leaves and you know, anything you can think of. So it's it's if you like that Mediterranean and you like Greek, then definitely go.

SPEAKER_00

Love it.

SPEAKER_01

It's a very cheap entry. I think it's only like five dollars, maybe ten to get in.

SPEAKER_00

Right.

SPEAKER_01

But it's fun.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, get out there, y'all, to the Greek fest. Greek fest is happening. Um, in in sad news, I saw that uh a couple of restaurants are closing.

SPEAKER_01

There's a few, man. Some of them are really, really old too.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which is it saddens my heart. First one that really saddened my heart was not that that old, and we featured it on this uh on this podcast. We called it uh Trifecto on the Wank. If you go over, if you go back and listen to Trifecto on the Wank, we've got to be able to do that. They were only open for like three months. This new three-tiered uh donut chicken, yeah, it was donuts, fried chicken in the middle, and then seafood, ball seafood, they had live seafood, whatever. And sadly, uh they went out of business. So um, I don't know if it's out of business or they're on pause, but it's not open. Like it's still fully furnished, the lights are on. Um I don't know if they just taking a break or what, but that's sad in my heart. Uh y'all go back and listen to that and and look at our Instagram. We have pictures and photos from it. Um we'll show you sure you're gonna enjoy it. Um it's sad to see. And um another one was the uh Habana uh Outpost. Um I don't know if you ever been there. But it was it was a unique restaurant. They had um they actually had like poisonous dart lizards or dart frogs, I'm sorry, built inside of this. He had like a little terrarium terrarium for it built in the in to the wall, the side of the in the restaurant, and it told you all about the the frog and looking like tile exhibit over at uh insectarium, yeah. It's like a little bit of insectarium. So it was a cool vibe. He had a lot of uh unique artwork in there. He had like a bank a Banksky uh painting in that spot. Um, and he fought for like 10 years to get that place open, to get that business open. Only for it to close. How long was it open? Maybe a couple years, uh two or three years. Where was it at? It's the corner of St. Claude and uh Esplanade. So it was an old gas station like back in the days like has that old gas station vibe, but the inside was beautiful. He did a lot of like compost in no waste kind of restaurant, so he had this machine that would compost your waste, you put certain things in certain uh bins and yada yada. Um he had a thermal heating system set up to where there was you know a thing that heated the uh restaurant from the ground and yada yada. So he was doing like a lot of environmentally cool things too in that restaurant. So it's sad to see how bad I go, but uh shout out to both of them.

SPEAKER_01

Um I saw another one. Just sending out a Casamento. They've been open for a hundred and five years.

SPEAKER_00

Wow. So they what's the backstory?

SPEAKER_01

I don't really know. I there wasn't much that I could read on it, but um, they do close every summer for the summer uh and reopen in September. But uh the owners basically came out and and said that this will likely be their last season. Uh they don't think that they're gonna um this will this will probably be the end. So um if you want to check out them, this is gonna be your last opportunity, it looks like.

SPEAKER_00

And yeah, that's old.

SPEAKER_01

It's a oyster house right there on magazine.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, right next to Miss Mays. If you don't know what we're talking about, where the uh old police station used to be, but yeah, that's uh Napoleon and magazine, basically. That's another sad one. Uh hate to see them go. Hate to see them go. Um, what else is going on? So besides those restaurants, if y'all haven't uh checked those restaurants out by now, guess what? It's too late.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, just go back and listen to the uh Casamento, you still have a you know a whole fall, winter, you know, era.

SPEAKER_00

They still got a little bit of time.

SPEAKER_01

They still got their you know next season, but um I mean it is Memorial Day. Is there what's your favorite thing to barbecue?

SPEAKER_00

Do you like uh well when I used to grill when my kids were younger and they used to want to hang out with me? Um I grill all kinds of shit. We'd do beef ribs and and um, you know, chicken and sausage, beef sausage, turkey sausage, and chicken sausage, whatever we can get, and a lot of vegetables.

SPEAKER_02

But what's your favorite?

SPEAKER_00

Uh I would say the beef ribs. I like some ribs too, man.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I like beef ribs and pork ribs. Like I'm I'm I'm I love like being messy. I'm like, I hate being messy, but I love being messy. Like, I like to lick the fruit.

SPEAKER_00

Well, when it comes to barbecue, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I like to lick the sauce off my fingers. Like I had a sandwich today for lunch, and it was like a meatball, parm, bagel, and it was just so sloppy and slutty, and it was so good. And I was like, that's what I want with barbecue. That's what I want with a cookout. I was like, I want it to be messy, messy, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Hell yeah. Some rigs falling off of the bone, but it can't be rich.

SPEAKER_01

You know what I mean? I like a vinegar-based slaw myself.

SPEAKER_00

Right. See, I don't do slaw. Y'all can keep that cold slaw. I don't want it. Shredded cabbage, I'm good. I'm I'm alright. You just don't want a dressing on it. But uh like that's some of it is mayonnaise-based, right? Yeah, so I like a vinegar-based slaw. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's more of like a salad. It's just basically like a cabbage with a vinaigrette. Yeah, you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

I'm good, I'm good. That's uh I'll just take a piece of sliced uh bread or something to go with my barbecue. And um, I would do potato salad. Love potato salad. Uh wasn't a fan that much at first. But anyway, doing doing memorial. Hey, and by the way, if y'all out there and y'all partying uh and y'all going down to the beach, please be careful there's still bacteria in the beach uh in the waters from out here? Yeah, from the sewage leak that happened.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I didn't know. I don't know if you know about it.

SPEAKER_00

There was a there was a raw sewage leak that leaked into the waterways and mainly, you know, the Pontra train the Lake Pontra Train and water and then down the coast though. So if you anywhere like, you know, I don't know if it goes as far as about Orange Beach. I don't know if it goes that far. But um Yeah, there's bacteria in the water, so watch uh watch yourselves when you're out there celebrating the wash yourselves. Yeah, wash your ass before you get back in your, you know, in your car even. Because uh bacteria is out there. That's unfortunate. It's kind of ruining the uh ruining the the vacay when people usually hang out with their family and grill and chill.

SPEAKER_01

I can't wait for a vacay. I need one so bad.

SPEAKER_00

Well, it's happening soon. It's happening soon. We got a sad announcement. We do have uh uh another hiatus plan, um, and we plan to come back and start fresh with an another full season of this great show. Give it up for us, Roman Booze. Yeah. Um so yeah, and uh I think this maybe next week is gonna be our last episode. This is gonna be our last uh last episode for this season. But we will be back. Trust and believe.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but before we even talk about that, let's talk about. Uh we we kind of took a we we strayed off our normal path for food and kind of um where we went this week. We're like, we went somewhere new. Uh they've only been open since January 1st, so less than six months. Um, there's so much buzz about this place.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it first exceeded my expectations. It was so delicious. It was Chada. Um, it's a new Thai restaurant um on the corner of Bienville and Normancy, Francis, right across from the old degenerate hotel um hospital that's getting torn down.

SPEAKER_00

Um but yeah, what a great, great spot. Uh they um took a shotgun, a double shotgun house, and turned it into a restaurant. It was a very beautiful on the inside. Absolutely. Everything is done really, really nice.

SPEAKER_01

It's a perfect sexy date night. Yeah. And it's not like look, my like my my favorite tie is Butsi. Like nobody like Butsy and me, like, I've got I've got ties with Butsi's tie into my soul. Like really, like there's no, I'm not cheating on Butsy, I swear. But Saba and Jared, like my loves. But this is like this was different. Um, my my one, and I think you share the exact same criticism is I wanted more spice. When you think Thai, you think spicy. Spicy. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Like you want to have the drunken noodles.

SPEAKER_01

And that one had the most peppers on it. It had like a four pepper for a spice. But it really it I mean, it had good flavor. The flavor was phenomenal.

SPEAKER_00

The presentation, all of everything was beautiful. The inside of the restaurant, we do have photos, we'll post it's it's gorgeous. It's it's very well done. We said at the bar, the the the bar design is beautiful. It's a lot of temple. Yeah, so temple is like look to the uh bartender was great.

SPEAKER_01

It I mean she was busy. She was slaying. The cocktail menu is it's it's it's a good, they've got a lot on their cocktail menu, but the cocktails take a minute to to construct. So um you're not getting a drink in two or three minutes. It's gonna take you, you know, 10 minutes or so to get a drink. And that's okay. As long as your company is good, it's not that big a deal. You know what I mean? And we obviously it's a tight spot too.

SPEAKER_00

So I mean, they have uh a front area, it's basically a bunch of two tops. Yeah, and there's a back dining area. I didn't really get a good look at that, but I'm sure that's not you know, it's only the size of what the front could be, I can imagine. But it's really well done, really well laid out. Um, I thought the food uh was delicious. I thought the like I said, the presentation, the silverware, the the plating, everything was fine. Everything was done really, really nice. I did have the the beef short rib. It was good, it was really good. It was done in like a milk-based curry, which uh is one of my favorite types of curry, but I I haven't had enough of those different curries to really critique this one, but I really did like it. It was delicious. Had a lot of lemongrass and yeah, the beef rib fell off of the bone. It it was like it was an amazing experience with those Thai flavors and that milk-based curry. I thought it was great. Give it up for Chato. Um the service was amazing. I think that uh fashion, yeah. The fashion that they they uh they work in the style of greeting and serving their customers, I think, is on a I give that a nine.

SPEAKER_01

It wasn't pretentious at all. Like it was sexy and elegant and pretty, but like it wasn't pretentious at all. Very intimate. They were in t-shirts and black pants with aprons. You know what I mean? It's like it wasn't, you know, they're not in like button-ups and collars and all this kind of weird shit, which can feel a little forced, but no, it was great.

SPEAKER_00

Give it up for I really, really enjoyed it. Yeah, I I highly recommend.

SPEAKER_01

Um I had their version of the French 75, they called it the Chata 75. Yeah, it was good. You had the mango sticky rice cocktail.

SPEAKER_00

That was delicious. Uh give it up for that. That was that was a good choice of me to get that one. It was it was a tequila based.

SPEAKER_01

It was tequila, like coconut milk, coconut foam. Yeah, um, it was also pandan syrup.

SPEAKER_00

It was in the foam accent at the actual coconut.

SPEAKER_01

It had a like a pina colada vibe, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Not pina colada. It was a different take on it, yeah. Yeah, absolutely. Enjoyed ourselves.

SPEAKER_01

And you had a traditional marg, right? How was your mark?

SPEAKER_00

Traditional marg as well. That that took a minute to make too, but nah, it's all good. Um, yeah, it was good. It was uh a different flavor. Uh, I I don't know if it was I don't know what tequila it was.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I I didn't even look or ask.

SPEAKER_00

Whatever, but it was it was great. It wasn't a uh pre-batch, so I love that. I hit I don't like when it's pre-batched, but um it was a good margarita. I mean, it was a house margarita, and it was great. So yeah, try to great job. It was impressed.

SPEAKER_01

I I really, really enjoyed it. I literally texted um my single guy friends when we left, and I was like, hey, I found a new date night for you to bring your little slut.

SPEAKER_00

You know, watch out. Nah, but it it is a place, it is a place to get out there and get some quiet time, some intimate time. It's very intimate in this restaurant. I think it's uh a great, like you said, date night spot or yeah, but like I said, it's a bunch of like little two-tops.

SPEAKER_01

So if you have like four or six, they push them tall together. You know what I mean? So it's like their space, but then they push them all together so you can have those bigger options.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. They they make um make room for you in there. But yeah, sit at the bar like we did, get a couple draks, talk to the bartender if she has time. She was very sweet, too. Very busy, but she's gonna be able to get it.

SPEAKER_01

She didn't get much much downtime.

SPEAKER_00

Right, yeah. Which I think that's how you want your job to be as a I'm I prefer to be busy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I wouldn't want to be standing there or like when I'm when I'm slow, I start to feel all the problems that I feel in my body, like my my aching back and my sore knees.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, or your foot, your heel.

SPEAKER_01

I'm trying not to think about that.

SPEAKER_00

Uh but um yeah, give it up for chatter once again. Delicious get over there, y'all. Please. And what's the address again, booze? You have to do it. Uh I don't. I was on the corner.

SPEAKER_01

It's literally the corner of Normancy, Francis, and Bienville.

SPEAKER_00

Normancy and Bienville, get over there. Tell them Roman Booze sent you.

SPEAKER_01

It's the I mean, if you're if you're coming from um Haroldton and you're going towards, you know, broad and Normancy, it is the last business before like a brick wall. Like Right.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, parking. And the parking is uh the parking is not bad. Uh if not you, I mean, in the neighborhood, maybe a block away, you can you can bark to the restaurant. I don't think it's a bad parking situation at all, but it's definitely worth the experience. Please, I advise y'all to call ahead and get a reservation. Make sure you have uh your your party all shows up at once because they won't seat you without the whole party being there. And it's different rules, and you can you can understand why when you see the limited amount of space that they deal with, but it's it's very well done. So uh thanks for having us once again. Yeah. Yeah. Give it up a child.

SPEAKER_01

I really enjoyed it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um that's like two Thai and like, because we just had Thai with Al and Aaron and we just did Thai again.

SPEAKER_00

Thai food is so good, it's worth done, and it gets too. I could eat it consistently, it's so good.

SPEAKER_01

I love Thai food so I love noodles though, like you know what I mean?

SPEAKER_00

Like, give me a a good rice as well, I mean, and just curries and sauces and and um just different ways to prepare meat. We did get the skewers too those chicken sets.

SPEAKER_01

No, the chicken satay and the spring rolls, yeah. Yeah, had a really nice peanut sauce. It was like chunky.

SPEAKER_00

You know. All right. Well, uh, get over there, y'all. See what we're talking about. Chada is this week's uh highlight for roaming the streets with booze. We do appreciate y'all listening to our show once again. Please have your notepads and pens. I hope you've been writing all of this shit down. Uh, because we work hard to do it for you. Yeah. Um heard some more bad news that um now that Schlitz is is gone.

SPEAKER_01

PBR has discon uh discontinued Schlitz, production of Schlitz.

SPEAKER_00

So yeah, there's some balls. Jake and Jakes is uh Yeah, they're talking about what's gonna be their new $2 beer.

SPEAKER_01

So ponies.

SPEAKER_00

That's I mean in these times I don't know what beer you can sell for $2 and none.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe well, Natter Day, I think a 30 pack of Natter days is about 20 bucks. That would have to be your only option, right?

SPEAKER_00

Well, I don't have my counter.

SPEAKER_01

And make some money. And make some money, right? So I mean a 30 pack and a 30 pack a natter day, you would get at two bucks a piece, 60 bucks.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, I don't know if that's gonna keep your business in there. How many natty?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but I don't think people that drink schlitz are gonna be drink a strawberry lemonade, natty light.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, give it up for the biggest.

SPEAKER_01

Let me tell you how good those bitches are.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they are shout out to Natadays. I've had them before. I love them. In the summertime is uh is a summertime favorite. So right around this time of the year is when you you might see a pack of Natadays show up to the pool. I do one every Monday.

SPEAKER_01

They are so good.

SPEAKER_00

So shout out to Natadays, and we don't even get paid for saying uh in that a bit. I wish we could y'all should send us some money, man.

SPEAKER_01

Man, if Natterday knew how much Natter day I drank, yeah, they would pay me.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, let's do something Natter Days.

SPEAKER_01

We have been chugging, shotgunning Natter Days every box for as soon as they came out. Right. I'm telling you, the year they came out.

SPEAKER_00

On it, on it. Yeah, that was the that was the suppertime drink.

SPEAKER_01

We were assholes about it too, because we were shotgunning them in Rich's kitchen, not even outside. His house was so disgusting. Like he like he still had roommates. I'm like, man. Um Rich, you are a legend. I love you. We still do bacchus parties at Rich's place every fucking day. Shout out to Rich. Rich Lane, baby. Rich Lane, I love you so much, buddy. Shout out to you. Um we have been doing this party every year for well over 10 years. Uh, even before I even knew these guys, they were doing this party. Man, this is I will take off the work. I don't care how much money I'm gonna miss at the bar. I'm going to that party every year, every fucking year.

SPEAKER_00

So it's a rack.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely.

SPEAKER_00

Well, yeah, if you're having a party or something and uh you want to get some Natterdays. You want to make it a top-notch event, please get your 30-pack of Natterday. 20 bucks, and you won't regret it.

SPEAKER_01

So, oh, and you and then you get the uh the Natterday vodka to go with it, and then you make NASCAR bombs.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, there you go.

SPEAKER_01

I brought those on my camping trip one time. I fucked everybody up that whole fucking trip.

SPEAKER_00

Only you, booze, getting everybody all drunk up.

SPEAKER_01

Oh shit, you saw that. Speaking of NASCAR, Kyush just fucking up and died.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that was some right, some illness he was dealing with. Um, R.I.P. to him. Uh yeah, man. I said, um, I want to get off the bad news. I don't know. It's like a bunch of bad news. Here's some good news that there uh there's a new dispensary opening up in Harvey, Louisiana. I mean, Harvey, yeah, Louisiana, I guess. Right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's Harvey, New Orleans, Louisiana. It's not New Orleans, it's Harvey.

SPEAKER_00

It is Harvey. It's close to New Orleans.

SPEAKER_01

70058.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, uh, no uh shots to to Harvey, but yeah, they're getting a dispensary. Yeah, branded. Yep. This will be this company's fifth dispensary around here, uh around town or whatnot. Um same one as probably I think it's Nola.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, the big red, it's yeah, it's the red one with the white, white, white writing. So uh yeah, they can get it.

SPEAKER_00

Dispensaries for y'all. Come on, my fellow potheads, come on.

SPEAKER_01

Can I just not get the medical card? Because I just don't want to get the medical card.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, just get it. They want to know what you how much are you? That's what they want to track. They want data. Data, data, data, data.

SPEAKER_01

I don't want data.

SPEAKER_00

Anyway, uh 1544 Manhattan. If y'all wanna get over there, man, and go check it out. That's some good news. Um and uh for real. And I heard that there's uh um a tapas or like a all you can eat toppas place. Uh I think it's plate it's called plates, bar and grill. That makes sense. Yeah, it's like a sixty dollar thing you sign up for.

SPEAKER_01

That's a lot of tapas.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you eat five to nine, you can have as many tapas as you can.

SPEAKER_01

That's a lot of tapas. Where's the bottomless? I don't know. It's bottomless tapas. I'm sorry, that was a really better. A better joke in my head. But the top is a bottomless.

SPEAKER_00

There's plenty of it. Come on. Boo.

SPEAKER_01

Is it called mids? No, kidding.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. Plates, I think it's called. I don't know. I think that's a good thing. Am I saying that right? Or is it plate? I'm sure it's plates. You never know. Might be.

SPEAKER_01

Tapas is small plates. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Man, bro.

SPEAKER_01

You gotta go to a wedding, huh?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Big, big, big thing happening this weekend. Um, well, we're running out of time, I think, right? What do we say we got? Yeah. I think we should start wrapping it up. We uh not a lot going on. Like we say, it's rainy uh this weekend.

SPEAKER_01

Uh Greek fest on Sunday if you're hearing this.

SPEAKER_00

Yep. Uh hopefully this week uh y'all listening to this with you know good good feelings and good spirits in your heart and whatever. And get out there and enjoy some of the stuff we talked about today because there's a bunch going on. And uh yeah, we'll try to get more and meet us.

Give it up, give it up for yourselves.

SPEAKER_01

I like some of you.

SPEAKER_00

Uh, and it's only gonna get better. We have a lot of uh surprises coming up, so stick around for that. Booze, we don't know what those surprises are yet. There will be surprises come on.

SPEAKER_01

We should work on that t-shirt idea though.

SPEAKER_00

I already have it in the works. Uh uh, I put it in, I actually put it in this week to see what we're gonna do. Production costs and all the yada yada. So we might have some. Yep, exactly. For season for the first season. So we still gotta do one for season two, and then of course, season three, when we come back after this little hiatus, but we do have one more show next week. Please tune in and like we said, come out to PVT, come say hi. Uh PVT, we'll be closing Parkview Tavern. Not Parkway Bakery.

SPEAKER_01

Not Park Parkway.

SPEAKER_00

Don't get it confused. People have been getting that confused. They keep calling Park View uh bakeries, asking them when do they close and yada yada. Um anyway, and well, the names are very similar. Don't go to Parkway Bakery where the pool boys are. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about Parkview Tavern, which is on Carrollton Avenue. I think it's 910. Yeah, 910, 910 Carrollton Avenue. Uh just come out, say hi, come uh see the place for the last time as it is, and and uh come celebrate with us. We will but we will be out there talking and doing interviews. So come say hi. Yes, yes. Anything else, Booze, before we get out of here?

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, that was an unexpectedly big yawn.

SPEAKER_00

I go to yawns. I don't know. That means it's time to go and uh Booze is yawning. I have I have no uh It's been a good day. It has. This this rainy schedule is just like it's just making me.

SPEAKER_01

It's a snuggle with Max on the couch weather.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I just want to go on the uh on my couch and watch documentaries.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, I've been watching so many nature documentaries. Like it is my go-to calm down routine, especially after work. Like an hour before bed, I put on a nature dock and just like brain rot on a playing a game and just listening to about animals and looking up every once in a while. It's my favorite.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, indeed. Well, speaking of rainy days, we're gonna go ahead and um end this show. We appreciate y'all though. We appreciate y'all every week.

SPEAKER_01

Those um that thunder this morning, man. Yeah, it was the like longest rolling thunder I think I've ever heard. I literally was counting, and most of the thunders were like 15 to 20 seconds long. Yeah, it was crazy. It was like the most intense rolling thunder I've ever heard.

SPEAKER_00

We uh well I love when that happens. I just sleep, I just get in a deeper sleep. So I love the rain, and we needed a little rain. So shout out to the rain. Love them rainy days.

SPEAKER_01

All these plants right here are gonna get some real good fucking water here.

SPEAKER_00

We keep the show coming every week, man. If you're liking what you're hearing, write us in. Let us know if we could be doing better. What can we do better? Rome and booze at yahoo.com.

SPEAKER_01

This is Rainy Days by Crucial and Pell right here, by the way. Shout out to Pell, what's up? Yo, the one that's what that's gonna be. So yeah, uh, we'll see y'all next week, huh? Please come out to Parkview Tavern. Come on, say hi to the crib. We'll see y'all Friday, alright? Alright, lay it off.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I'm just vibing, baby.

SPEAKER_00

Alright.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, uh Polish putting up their um website to order.

SPEAKER_00

She can now get her pickles and furroomies and uh our girl over there. Um, she came and got some church gifts. She got some uh some cucumbers and some beets from the farm. So shout out to Peloponnesi. Beats, beats, beats, beats. Yep, shout out to Pell and everybody uh out there, man. We appreciate y'all for listening again. This is the best show coming out of New Orleans, Louisiana. It's Rome in the Street. Alright, we see y'all next week at Park View Tab when y'all come out and say hi, alright?

SPEAKER_02

Bye, and bring it to the sun shot.

SPEAKER_01

Still got my hand in the clouds as I wander.

SPEAKER_02

I know I'm never close to a wander wander.

SPEAKER_00

Love y'all.
