Hey hey, day 13! Whattttt!!! Mattie is back serving tea today. Sounds include Braden Kirkpatrick playing a wonderful single and an interview with a 5th grader. Until tomorrow :-)

Let me know what you think of this episode.

SPEAKER_03

Today is day 13.

SPEAKER_04

Free tea.

SPEAKER_00

30 days of free tea in Mary Hernandez Park.

SPEAKER_03

People wanna know you. Who is David?

SPEAKER_04

Um kind. I think I'm very um like I think I have a lot of empathy and like a lot of people have like pointless arguments. I can I can and I can see past them.

SPEAKER_00

David's like my T stand's nephew.

SPEAKER_03

David is this lovely kid. You got any dance moves?

SPEAKER_04

Uh I I do, but like check out my dance moves.

SPEAKER_03

Oh this give me a beat.

SPEAKER_04

Wow.

SPEAKER_03

You're a dancer on. There were like five other people standing around the tea stand waiting for tea. And he just walked in in front of everyone and was like, give me the mystery box. And I was like shocked at the precociousness of this child. And then he was like, hey, can you just let me know let my mom know that I'm gonna go home? And I was like a year ago.

unknown

Yeah, a year ago.

SPEAKER_03

What? Like, who is your mom? And he was like, just watch my stuff, they're over there. And I was like, uh David, like I don't I don't know anything about you. I don't know your parents. Like, you can't have me tell these people that you're going home. And then he goes, he goes, Don't worry, my mom's the one with the baby. And we look around, and like six women had strollers with babies around us. David, yes, I did. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He was so I love them because she lets her kid just roam the park freely, and then the tea stand becomes the communication of where's my kid. And they're like, they they're constantly missing each other. They're like, oh what? I thought he was gonna be here at the tea stand. I'm like, no, he's at the playground. And then she goes, and then he comes back and he's like, I thought he was gonna be at the tea stand, and like it's like this bit that they're doing almost, but they're really sweet.

SPEAKER_03

You like the tea, or is it does it is it not so tasty?

SPEAKER_04

Well, it it depends. I don't I don't I personally I don't like bitter, bitter tea, and a lot of tea is bitter, so you got uh there has been some teas that you've cooked up and I love them. What else do you love? Uh a lot of stuff. I love sports as a whole. Because I play I I play a lot of sports. Like I'm I'm good in a lot of areas. You know, a lot of people specialize in one thing or like a few stuff. You know, I I I I want to experience everything and see its values.

SPEAKER_00

It's like if I wasn't here, or maybe if there were just less people out in general, like maybe she wouldn't feel comfortable letting her kid roam around, but like, okay, if the tea stand's gonna be there, like I know when the last time they saw my kid, and like it's it's just another one of these people that can be involved in some capacity in our daily lives.

SPEAKER_04

Which place are we talking? Alright, so starting off soccer, baseball, basketball, normal American stuff, pickleball, the fastest rising sport in America, by the way. Fun fact. Um ping pong and tennis. Um do you count chess as a sport? Sure. Chess. I love chess. Wow. Which one's your favorite?

SPEAKER_03

My favorite? That's hard. It's so much harder later in life if you were taught that all strangers are dangerous, to to then when you have to interact with strangers, like know that like you can trust your gut and trust your intuition about people. Like you don't just adopt those intuitions, like they need to be modeled by by the adults around you. And teaching kids how to tell. Like the tea stands obviously a safe place when there's like a bunch of people around talking and it's like calm energy, and it's a a place that people aren't leaving quickly, and so you can kind of teach a kid to see these indicators as like, oh, that's a space I can trust and come around to.

SPEAKER_04

So you g you your guys' uh mission is the free tea stand. I mean the free tea, yeah. Yeah, free tea stand. Um so you guys wanna like bring bring together the community? Is that is that you guys' mission? Yeah, bring together neighbors to chat. That that that's great. That's so cool. It's just such a um selfless thing to do.

SPEAKER_01

You like having the tea stand around?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I I really love that.

SPEAKER_01

I don't feel like I'm welting away in my mind or my body. I just go back to the tea stand and have a talk, and then I'm like, oh wow, I'm alive. It's like when a clo a flower closes and then you it opens back up. Like you're seeing the sky again. I'm seeing the sky again. I'm awakened.

SPEAKER_02

I so feel I'm stressed out. The seas are open and start to float out. You feel back here scalling soul out. Some other day I'll get you live well and be strong and accept the things that come along. The train keeps moving with your spicing through.

SPEAKER_04

Another thing that I hate is walking is walking after it rains.

SPEAKER_02

And know there's nothing that you have to do. And nothing's forever nice, sunny night and moon.

SPEAKER_04

It's just so gloomy. I'd much rather walk during a rainstorm.

SPEAKER_02

Nothing's forever, I mean I you're dying go to other days. Okay, it's young well in the khama.

SPEAKER_04

I I gotta go home now, so yeah, it was it was um I I I love the teacher. Yeah. I guess that's the end of today's podcast.
