Welcome back to Ask Velvet. I'm your host, Velvet. Now, before I get into this episode of my podcast, I just would like to say that everything has been alleged. Um, again, this is still under investigation. So from what I read and from what I heard, this is what I'll be talking about from what I've read and what I've heard. Um, and I'm quite sure at some point all of the details will come out. But let me get into today's episode. Today's episode is not an easy one to talk about. It's painful, it's heartbreaking, and it forces us to confront something that continues to happen far too often in our schools and communities. Today I want to talk about the tragic death of twelve year old Jada West from Georgia. Jada's family had recently moved to a new area. Like so many families do when starting over somewhere new, they hoped it would be a fresh start for their daughter. But instead of finding peace and friendship, Jada reportedly faced months of bullying at her new school. According to parents, and according to reports, her parents had already gone to the school trying to address the issue. They tried to resolve it. They tried to protect their daughter, but nothing truly changed. And now a young girl is gone. The situation reportedly escalated the day Jada got off the school bus. The same girls who had allegedly been bullying her also got off that bus. A fight broke out from what has been reported, Jada was fighting with three girls who had been bullying her. There were also reports that at one point a boy had been bullying her as well. What happened next is devastating. Jada was severely injured during the fight. She had to be rushed to the hospital and then airlifted to Scottish Wright Children's Hospital. And later she died from her injuries. A twelve year old child lost her life. Now many people are pointing fingers at the bus driver. But in my opinion, this situation goes far beyond that. The real issue here is the bullying. The real issue is the culture that allowed this to escalate. Today's kids are not always afraid of authority the way many of us were growing up. We have seen students fight teachers, school staff, and even bus drivers. So when people say a bus driver should have stepped in physically, we also have to acknowledge the reality that intervening in a violent fight could put that driver's life at risk too. But accountability still has to exist somewhere. The children involved need to be held responsible. The parents of those children need to be held responsible. And the school system must also answer questions if bullying had already been reported. Another heartbreaking part of this story is something that keeps happening in tragedies like this. Someone recorded the fight, and that video showing this young girl's final moments has now been circulating on social media. That shouldn't have never happened. Everything does not belong online. Everything is not content. Everything is not meant for likes, shares, and views. Those were the final moments of a child's life. A daughter, a family member, a human being. And yet someone thought it was okay to film it and then release it. That is another form of cruelty. This tragedy should force all of us to stop and think about what is happening in our schools and in our communities. Bullying is not just teasing. It is not just kids being kids. Bullying can destroy confidence. Bullying can destroy mental health. And in cases like this, bullying can destroy lives. There must be real consequences for those who bully others. Not just a warning, not just a talk in the hallway, real accountability. Parents must teach their children empathy and respect. Schools must take reports of bullying seriously. And young people must understand that cruelty is not strength. A twelve year old girl should still be here today. Her story should not end with a viral video of violence. So today, let's remember Jada West. Let's keep her family in our prayers and let's start having serious conversations about stopping bullying before another child's name becomes the next headline. Because no family should have to bury their child over something that could have been stopped.
