Welcome back to Ask Velvet Podcast. In this episode, I want to talk about the FIFA World Cup games and why I believe FIFA made a huge mistake by bringing these games to the United States. As we get closer to the tournament, we're already hearing concerns about travel restrictions, visa issues, and whether fans from around the world will even feel welcome coming here. And that raises a question that I think FIFA should have asked itself a long time ago. Why bring one of the world's biggest sporting events to a country where so many international visitors may face obstacles just trying to attend? Now, from my perspective, FIFA had plenty of other countries it could have chosen to host these games. Instead, they decided to bring the tournament here, despite knowing the political climate and the concerns that many people from other countries have about traveling to the United States. When people travel to support their national teams, they want to feel excited. They want to celebrate their culture, enjoy the competition, and be part of a global event. But many travelers are worried about how they'll be treated when they arrive. Some people feel that visitors coming into the country are viewed with suspicion and are subjected to intense scrutiny. Whether those concerns are justified or not, their perception alone can discourage fans from making the trip. And now we're hearing reports that there are still a significant number of tickets available. If that's true, FIFA shouldn't be surprised. If people don't feel welcome, they're less likely to spend thousands of dollars on flights, hotels, food, and tickets just to attend a tournament. The World Cup is supposed to bring the world together. It's supposed to be a celebration of different cultures, different countries, and a shared love of soccer. But when politics become part of the conversation, it can take away from what the event is supposed to represent. At the end of the day, FIFA made its decision and the games are coming to the United States, but I still think it's fair to ask whether another host country would have been a better choice. If fans from around the world are hesitant to attend, that's a problem not just for FIFA, but for the spirit of the World Cup itself. Those are my thoughts. Let me know what you think. Do you believe FIFA made the right decision by bringing the World Cup to the United States? Or do you think the tournament would have been better off somewhere else? Thanks for listening and I'll catch you in the next episode.
