Just so you know, episode 19 of the Bay Ridge Digest Podcast will be out in this same feed everywhere you get a podcast and at BayridgeDigest.com this coming Thursday. Join the St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, 19281st Street, on Saturday, August 1st at 7 o'clock for their Island Vibes night and enjoy an evening filled with tropical fun. Tropical and Hawaiian attire is encouraged. There's going to be music, food, Hawaiian-style mocktail station, and great company. Tickets are $30 per person in advance and $35 at the door. It's organized by Jack Verlaine. Hassan and Mori, the Healing Bean Cafe, were guests of the Bay Ridge Digits Podcast in episode 13. The 34th annual Coney Island Sand Sculpting Competition returns to the beach Saturday, August 15th at 12 o'clock on West 12th Street. Whether you're a seasoned sculptor or just looking for a fun day at the beach, everyone is welcome to join in on the fun for free. Registration opens that day at 11 o'clock. The competition takes place between 12 and 4. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners. Bring your buckets, shovels, and creativity. They'll take care of the surf and the sand and the fun. And hopefully the sunshine. So how do we define a ghost? How do you define it? Is it all poppycock to you? Not to me. I grew up in a haunted house. And maybe that's why I'm qualified. Besides that, I have such an outgoing personality to be leading walking tours around Bayridge and Benson Earth and other places. This coming week, Friday, July 31st, is the north side of Bay Ridge. It's 82nd Street, north to 68th Street. The following week, the 7th, it'll return to the South Side. And if you like a festival and you're from Bensonhurst like I am originally, the 18th Avenue feast for the 52nd annual year will be starting on August 20th. Construction is finally resuming on the 17th Avenue Pedestrian Bridge, Monday, July 27th, 2026. It's going to require single-lane closures along the Belt Parkway in both directions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with at least one lane of traffic maintained at all times. Plan for some delays if you travel within these hours. This portion of the work will last until at least August 21st, 2026. Community services on the Bay Ridge Digest Monday morning roundup. CB 10's district office 81195th Avenue will serve as a drop-off location for local residents who are helping to collect school supplies for children in need at Maimonides Health as part of their kickoff to Child Cancer Awareness Month. They're asking friends and neighbors to help make this year's school supplies and backpack drive just as successful as last year's. How can you help? Supplies can be purchased from an Amazon list that is in my email. Supplies can be dropped off at the CB10 District Office from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. before Wednesday, August 26th. And your voice matters, especially to the Bay Ridge Center at 15 Bay Ridge Avenue, and they want to hear from you. You can take a digital connection survey that they're having, get it in my email. The survey is open to all community members 18 and older, and it'll help them better understand community members' access to technology, internet connectivity needs, and digital experiences. The feedback they receive will help them continue to improve their digital literacy programs, resources, and services to better support the community. That's our community. Participants who complete the survey will have a chance to win one of 20 Amazon gift cards, each valued at $25. Celery at 8916 Third Avenue is having their Friday wine tasting this coming Friday at 5 o'clock, that's July 31st. Patrick from MS Walker will join them with a mix and match of this and that. So be on the lookout for lots of deals, discounts, you name it, around Bay Ridge and the surrounding neighborhoods. For example, Cebu Bar and Bistro at 8801 3rd Avenue is offering an exclusive prefix menu. A three-course Friday lunch is $45, and a four-course dinner every night except Saturday is $60. Sophia's restaurant at 8406 Third Avenue is hosting an all-white attire party. On Friday, August 14, 2026, it's featuring live vocalist and entertainer Miss Ella Christina. Showtime begins at 7.30.
