A mighty tree spends its life growing, serving, and sheltering others, unaware that it has been created for a purpose far greater than it could ever imagine.

Through seasons of growth, loss, suffering, and waiting, this story explores a question many of us wrestle with: What if the difficult seasons in our lives are preparing us for something eternal?

This is a moving story about purpose, sacrifice, faith, and trusting God even when we cannot understand what He is doing.

If you've ever questioned the waiting, the pruning, or the pain in your own journey, this story is for you. Listen until the end.

Perspective. We all have perspective. We've got perspective on different things. We've got perspective on how we view the world, perspective on how we view others and different situations. But how often do we change our perspective and try and look at things from a different perspective, a different vantage point? So I have a little story that I want to share with you, and it's about perspective. So here we go. God created everything with incredible detail. How the mighty trees grow from small seeds and knowing to lay down deep roots to help them remain steadfast throughout the seasons and for many years to come. But there was one tree whose life was destined for something more. The most important job that any tree could have. As this tree grew over the years, unknowing of what was to come, it continued to lay down stronger roots and reach its branches across the ground and into the sky. It provided shade for all those who came near, and a home for the birds to nest in and the insects who chose to burrow deep within its roots. This tree became a home, a shelter, and a whole world for so many. That was until one particular day. A day that someone decided to cut the tree from the ground, and suddenly all those who had built their life around in and under the tree had to flee. The tree broken from its roots, whose branches were torn from its trunk, now lay helpless on the ground. The torture did not stop there. The tree was milled and cut into rough beams, and as its body was shaped into something new, it felt itself fading away. The life that it had once known, the deep roots, the flowing water within it, the warmth of the sun through its branches, all of this seemed to slip further and further away. It grew dry, empty, thirsty, and eventually everything fell into darkness, and for a long while the tree felt nothing at all. That was until one day when a man climbed up onto the tree. At first the tree barely recognized what was happening, but then something began to flow from the man into the dry and lifeless wood, and slowly the tree awakened again. Strength returned where there had only been emptiness. What had once felt dead now stirred with life. But as the tree grew stronger it sensed that the man was growing weaker. So the tree held him tightly. It held him with all the strength it had left, not yet understanding that the life returning to itself was costing the man everything. Hours later the man was finally taken down. Gentle hands carried him from the tree and led him upon the ground. And as the tree looked upon the man's face, something stirred deep within its memory. It knew him, but not from that day. The tree remembered him as a boy resting beneath its shade. It remembered him reaching into his branches for fruit to eat whenever he was hungry. It remembered the cold evenings when broken branches had been gathered from the ground to warm the fires beside him. The man had never been a stranger, and suddenly the tree understood. Every season of growth, every root pushed deep into the earth, every branch stretched wide in service to others, every storm endured and every axe wound, none had been meaningless. The tree had not been created simply to grow tall. It had been created to give, to serve and to hold. And in that moment when the world needed it most, the tree fulfilled the very purpose for which it had been planted. And perhaps we're not so different from that tree. So often we question the shaping seasons of our lives. We question the waiting, the wounds, the cutting away, and the moments when God seemed silent. Yet the tree only understood its purpose at the very end of its story. What if the roots that God is growing deep within us today are preparing us to carry something eternal tomorrow? The tree was not cursed because it held Jesus, it was honored. Because when the moment came it was willing to stand, to endure, to hold tightly to the one who would save the world. And maybe our purpose is found in the very same thing: to hold on to Christ through every season until his work in us is finished. Thank you very much for staying with me right to the end.
