Manifestation and identity shift go hand in hand and your environment plays a bigger role than you think. In this episode, I break down how changing your surroundings can help you become your desired self faster by shifting your behavior, energy, and self-perception.
I share my personal experience traveling and how stepping into new environments allowed me to embody a different version of myself without resistance. We also get into the science behind identity change, including embodied cognition, curiosity, and how your brain responds to new experiences.
If you’ve been feeling stuck or like you can’t break out of old patterns, this episode will show you a simple, practical way to start shifting into the version of yourself you actually want to be.

Intro
Welcome to Cue the Real, the podcast to get unstuck and manifest the life that's calling you. I’m your host, Lindsay Brand, a military veteran who built success in the private sector until the Universe guided me to something deeper, helping people move from stuck to fully aligned through manifestation. I blend neuroscience, personal stories, and the most practical tools to shine a light on what’s holding you back so you can manifest the life you truly want.

Imagine stepping into a place where no one knows your story, where you can be whoever you choose to be, and no one has a single expectation of you. That’s what’s happened to me on my recent trips, and it completely shifted the way I see myself. Today, I’m sharing how traveling, or even just going somewhere new, can fast-track the version of yourself you’ve been trying to become, and why your environment might be the secret tool you’ve been overlooking.
Let’s cue the real.
Music
When you go somewhere new, people immediately form an image of who you are. They don’t know your history, your fears, or your old habits. They see your wardrobe, how you walk, how you talk, and what you choose to do, and they accept that as the truth without hesitation. Compare that to being around people who know you. Change what you normally wear or suddenly pick up competitive crocheting, and everyone you know will likely ask, “What’s going on?” They notice because your new behavior challenges the story they’ve built around you. This is one of the biggest obstacles to shifting your identity, the people who think they know you and who question or resist your change.
Your identity forms from what you show the world. Over time, the choices, behaviors, and energy you consistently display become a story. It’s the story others believe about you, and eventually, you start believing it too. Now imagine going somewhere where no one knows your story. No assumptions or expectations. Traveling gives you the freedom to step fully into the version of yourself you desire to be. You can experiment and play, and embody that identity without anyone’s doubts holding you back.
I’ve taken two trips in the past couple of months, one of them solo. That solo trip was especially powerful because I could walk around fully embodying my desired self, from my energy to the way I dressed, and no one questioned it. I could explore and try on this new version of me as if it had always existed.
One of the most interesting parts of this process is how small details matter. Like I said, the way you dress, the energy you carry, even the words you choose all send signals not just to others but to your own brain too. Science suggests that our body and physical actions can shape how we think and feel about ourselves, not just how others see us. This idea comes from a field of science called embodied cognition, which shows that posture, movement, and physical experience influence cognitive processes. Experiments have found that changing posture and facial expressions is linked to shifts in mood and self‑perception, and that how we experience our own body affects our sense of self. So when you step into a new place, every small choice becomes a tool for creating the self you want.
Another layer to this is social feedback or, in this case, the lack of it. When no one knows you, there’s no one to challenge the story you’re writing about yourself. You’re literally giving yourself permission to exist as the person you want to be, and your brain starts wiring itself around that identity. In your usual environment, people’s assumptions and expectations act like invisible weights, pulling you back into old patterns. Traveling lifts those weights and allows your new behaviors to take root naturally.
Curiosity plays a role too. Exploring a new place engages your brain in active learning. Your senses are heightened, you notice details as you navigate unfamiliar spaces. Neuroscientists have found that curiosity increases dopamine levels, not only making you feel energized but also enhancing memory and retention. This means the experiences of your new self in these places stick in your brain more strongly, helping your identity shift feel real and lasting.
Finally, there’s the emotional component. Stepping into your desired self in a new place often brings joy and even a little nervousness. These emotions anchor your new identity in your body. The brain remembers experiences with strong emotions more vividly, reinforcing the story you’re telling yourself about who you are. Each moment you embody your desired self is cementing that identity at a neurological level. Essentially, traveling primes your brain for identity transformation.
Now, I know traveling can feel intimidating to some. You don’t have to fly across the country to feel this effect. Even driving to a nearby city or exploring a neighborhood you’ve never been to can create the same opportunity. Spend a day exploring shops, museums, restaurants and do it as the person you want to become.
I’ve been doing this for years without realizing it. I would take day trips to wealthier areas in my state, walk around, visit bookstores and restaurants. To the people there, I probably looked like a local, and in my mind, I was. I was practicing living as the version of myself I wanted to embody without anyone telling me who I should be.
Here’s my challenge for you. Pick a place you want to go in the next few days. Figure out who you want to be. How would you move? How would you talk? Then step into that person fully. Believe it with your mind, heart, and body. There’s no one there to doubt you. No one to hold your new identity back.
This practice speeds up identity shifts faster than anything else because it pulls you out of your familiar environment, where routines and expectations keep you cozy and sometimes, stuck. When you step into somewhere new, your mind stops running on autopilot and space opens for the person you want to be to fully emerge.
Before you know it, the person you’ve been trying to become is no longer something you hope for. They are someone you are already living as.
I’m excited to hear where you go and how it shifts things for you. So feel free to take advantage of the texting feature in the show notes, just keep in mind it does not give me the ability to text back. But, you can always email me, that info is also in the show notes, and I will gladly respond to you there.
Remember: The person you want to be isn’t waiting for permission, the person you want to be is waiting for you to choose them.
