SPEAKER_03

Welcome to the Trevor Buck Podcast, episode 56. We are with the the happiest guy we know in the UP. He loves everything about the UP, especially during the winter. Snowblower, snowblower, CEO of Rhombus Lumber. What's going on?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, just loving life.

SPEAKER_03

What are you doing today?

SPEAKER_01

I'm sitting on my recliner with my cat on my lap watching a Minnesota Wildhawk game.

SPEAKER_03

This is great. What's your cat's name?

SPEAKER_00

Reese.

SPEAKER_03

What?

SPEAKER_00

Reese's.

SPEAKER_03

Reese's. Is that a youper name?

SPEAKER_00

As in Reese's PC's.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay, okay. I would have thought you your cat's name would be Snoop Dogg or something.

SPEAKER_01

No, I didn't name her. It's a kid's cat. She's like she's like 14 or 15 years old.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so she's getting old. No, that's cool. I like cats. She prayer for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she's taking an attachment to me, and anytime I sit down, she's instantly on my lap.

SPEAKER_03

Well, you know what they say is cats um they know people. And they know you're a you're a good human.

SPEAKER_01

Uh well, she thinks so anyway.

SPEAKER_03

Right. That's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so you were uh you were doing some work uh gym time this morning. Tell me about your your workout regimen. This is awesome.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I wanted to start going to the gym to get over the winter blue.

SPEAKER_03

Is it tough?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Oh, I did ever.

SPEAKER_03

I know, but it's it's all white and bright and cheery.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. Yeah, it's white, but it's not bright and cheery at all.

SPEAKER_03

It's not.

SPEAKER_01

It's like today's been all day, it's been in between snow and freezing rain.

SPEAKER_03

That sounds amazing.

SPEAKER_01

Great and miserable.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, we gotta talk about we gotta talk about you you mentioned that the the robins were uh migrating back up to the UP. How do you feel about the robins coming home early?

SPEAKER_01

Retarded Robin? Uh yeah, like why wouldn't you stop somewhere south bigger where there's grass? What are you thinking? There was one when I came on the sauna last night, there was one in the tree.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Like, you idiots ain't gonna be able to pick worms up here until bloody middle of May. And not later. They're not that bright. Or it's the state bird.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, the the the the Robin is the Michigan State bird?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and they're and they're all snowbirds, like the people that leave for Florida in the winter. How do they get this state bird nomination?

SPEAKER_03

That is awesome.

SPEAKER_01

No, it should have been like a chickadee or a blue jay. They stick around.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's awesome. Hey, you know what? I want to share this with you. Um, I I did a podcast uh previously today with the this fella from up in the UP, Pristine Airbrush. Oh, okay. So he's done a whole bunch of goalie masks. He's he's traveled all over the world painting uh floors for uh NBA uh all-star games and whatnot. Super cool story.

SPEAKER_01

Is that uh Lehman?

SPEAKER_03

Um who?

SPEAKER_01

Lehman?

SPEAKER_03

No, no Lehman.

SPEAKER_01

No Lehman with an S. But um no, I don't know who I mean I've heard of Christine Airbrecht, but I don't know who it is.

SPEAKER_03

Super cool. He's got the you're gonna have to listen to the pod. He's got this finished last name that I can't pronounce, but it sounds like Pillia.

SPEAKER_01

Pilia?

SPEAKER_03

Pilia. Super cool. And uh he works for Samoro, Laser Creep.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

But he does some awesome airbrushing, so you're gonna have to check it out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I mean, I've seen his work. Right. I've seen a lot of his work. Yeah, he does beautiful work.

SPEAKER_03

Right. We should do a Rhombus Lumber hockey mask.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we should.

SPEAKER_03

Right? With like with like one by four tongue and groove cedar on the side?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Come on.

SPEAKER_01

So the Rhombus, the the Trevor Buck Rhombus Lumber sauna shards.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

Um, they work really good for gym shards. But I was thinking, you know where you put the Rhombus Lumber mogul on it? For where it was placed, it should say it's it may be small, but it's there.

SPEAKER_03

Well, it kind of depends on where your placement was, because sometimes they're random.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, you random place. Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_03

Right. We we're not uh real precise with our specs, but uh that's great. And if you want a pair of these uh sauna shorts that Snowblower's rocking, check out the Trevorbuckco.com and we'll we'll we'll hook you up. This is awesome.

SPEAKER_01

They really are awesome, but yeah, don't wear them in a sauna.

SPEAKER_03

Why you have to you have to wear you have to wear shorts in the sauna these days, Ned.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm pretty proud of you pronouncing sauna properly.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

You didn't think I caught that, did you?

SPEAKER_03

I didn't even know I slipped. I'm starting to get all thin, but it but it's it's sauna. For our westerners that speak English, it it's uh it's definitely sauna. Yeah. So hey, I I wanna I wanna tell you this. Did did you hear the uh the episode with Nittin from uh India?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

You haven't listened to that one?

SPEAKER_01

No. I never did.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, well you better catch up to times, but um he's from India and he speaks very fluid English, and he was wondering what language you speak up on the UP.

SPEAKER_01

It's gibberish.

SPEAKER_03

Right?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah. That's funny. That is super funny. So does he have a big hockey following?

SPEAKER_03

He does in India. It's amazing what he's doing, and they're uh, if you didn't know, India has a population of like 1.2635 billion people. Yeah, they got billions. And they're building hockey ranks like crazy. And he's he's obsessed. He he he uh he got into the sport and he's skating like four or five hours a day. He loves it.

SPEAKER_01

No kidding.

SPEAKER_03

No kidding. You got I can't I can't believe you haven't listened.

SPEAKER_01

No, I got I got terrible service out on my job.

SPEAKER_03

Right. Are you still listening to uh tradio?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, if you got anything about a five stuff, oh that's funny. I hadn't heard that in so long.

SPEAKER_03

Do they still do that up there?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. I never listened to regular radio.

SPEAKER_03

What's up with that?

unknown

Oh, I hate it. I used to that advertising and everything was so so terrible. I would b punch my radio out every time I and and the bro country. I couldn't hack it.

SPEAKER_03

What's bro country?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, the new country music.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, okay. But hey, give us a snow update. Like, so so for some of us here on the West Coast, it's sunny and it's spring, and there's green grass and it's nice and warm, but what's it like up there?

SPEAKER_01

Can I use the language I was using this morning talking to you?

SPEAKER_03

Let it rip. We'll we'll beep it out if we have to. Let it rip.

SPEAKER_01

No, but but you I snow, honestly, it hasn't it hasn't melted at all.

SPEAKER_03

I know, but you like you just act like you hate it, but truly you love it.

SPEAKER_01

No, I absolutely hate it.

SPEAKER_03

Really?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely hate it.

unknown

There is nothing cool about it.

SPEAKER_01

It might be cool if it was like in most areas of the world where it actually started melting in March. But when it's hanging around till God knows when.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

May Hey, we've got we've got ten inches of snow on my birthday, May 2nd.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Okay, no, no, but but but tell me about so you're in the the timber industry. So so tell me about how the snow affects. So when it's snowing packed down, you're able to get out to your areas and and pull logs out, but then when it starts getting soft and muddy, then it closes down, or how how does that work?

SPEAKER_01

Tell me how the Yeah, well, I mean, like for us, you you can drive, we're we're working on a swamp, and if there's enough snow, you can just make a trail, stay on top of it, not in the mud.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Or else and of course when it's cold it freezes too.

unknown

Yep.

SPEAKER_01

Um so you got a good solid solid trail to work on, but yeah, as soon as as soon as it starts melting, it's just a muddy mess.

SPEAKER_03

So then are you done? Are you done?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You don't pull out the I thought that's why you were uh getting the skidder fired up. We shared that. That was epic, epic stories.

SPEAKER_01

The skidder's still working because um it's cold and snowy uh and we can still get out there.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, but so it can't go skid logs out of the mud.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you can't. I mean, do you want to run your sawmill through muddy logs? Well float them down that Columbia River like you guys.

SPEAKER_03

Right, right. Isn't that cool?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Well you can uh you can wash them off in the in the what uh what do they call that lake up there? The superior. You can go dip them dip them in the superior.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I've they used to do log wraps in Lake Superior.

SPEAKER_03

Why didn't why did they stop?

SPEAKER_01

Uh probably because it was more efficient to do it with trucks.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. So then re realistically you're waiting till how long you're waiting before you can go truck 'em.

SPEAKER_01

Before what do you mean?

SPEAKER_03

Well, when so so the spring comes, it warms up, it gets muddy, and everything gets soft.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, well, I mean they usually take the road restrictions off in the middle of May. Yeah. It's been as late as June.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um but I mean you're the woods the woods roads have to dry up enough too.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, when does that happen?

SPEAKER_00

You tell me.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so so so so what do you do in the meantime when you when you're not able to drive your truck out there?

SPEAKER_01

Um like now we're just decking it up, just piling it up.

SPEAKER_03

Just piling them up.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. And are you milling them?

SPEAKER_01

Not yet. We can't haul them to the mill.

SPEAKER_03

Oh. This sounds like a lot of work.

SPEAKER_01

It is.

unknown

It's ridiculous.

SPEAKER_03

Have you thought about a different career besides timber?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, unfortunately, once you get in the logum, it's like uh it either I I haven't decided if it just turns you dumb or if it's an addiction. I'm thinking I'm thinking more that it turns you dumb.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, but but why don't you come out here to the West Coast where we float them on the river and there's no snow and come out here and do logging.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I'm gonna I'm gonna come out there and drive practice, right?

SPEAKER_03

Right. That would be awesome.

SPEAKER_01

You can uh you know that chick that you uh had was she on she wasn't on the podcast. We had that one truck driver.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, I I never I never got her on. Nope.

SPEAKER_01

No, she wasn't on a podcast.

SPEAKER_03

Columbia Distribution, shout out them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I'm gonna go haul log with her.

SPEAKER_03

Right. With a a self-loader truck?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

There's not too many of those out here.

SPEAKER_01

No. They're well yeah, I mean out there your weight restrictions are so all like Michigan out there.

SPEAKER_03

Right. We have uh we're uh we're pretty strict out here. We're pretty liberal.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta follow follow the rules and stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, they definitely they definitely uh make and follow the rules out there. Uh up here there's no rules, apparently in a log truck.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. That's that's great.

SPEAKER_01

No, no, it's not.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, shoot. Did you slim's this morning?

SPEAKER_01

No, I'm fasting right now.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that's right. Tell me about your fasting. So that that was something really impressive this morning you shared me about. You're at the gym, you're working on the upper body, plus you're fasting. So tell me about your fasting, Regimen.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I just uh stopped eating last night. Okay. Or yesterday. Yesterday at lunch was the last time I ate. So we're gonna see how long I can go.

SPEAKER_03

And you just decided, hey, I'm done, I'm done eating because why?

SPEAKER_01

Um, I don't know. I just need to fast, lose some weight, do a body cleanse. Um so my brother Mark, he's uh he did a five-day no food, no water fast this winter.

SPEAKER_03

That's not even healthy. That but that's recipe for you can't you can't have water for more than 24 hours and you die.

SPEAKER_01

Well, he made it for five days, so he proved that theory wrong.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, and what what did he accomplish when he was done? He felt amazing?

SPEAKER_01

Well, he has rheumatoid arthritis in his hands, and it it helps that. That's why he does it so often.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, it's it's huge for that. I was just watching a documentary on fasting. Tell me about it. Like at a certain point, your body starts when it starts breaking down the fat molecules, it um it starts producing stem cells and they travel through your body and repair places that um, you know, like cysts, skin tags, um anything. I mean they say it'll pure cancer too.

SPEAKER_03

Really?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Huh. So I should shut her down tonight. No no food, no water for five days, and then it'll be empty.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm not I'm not going five days and I'm not doing no water.

SPEAKER_03

So Okay, so how how long has it been for you?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, it's only been twenty-four hours for me.

SPEAKER_03

What are you craving? I mean f family friendly stuff. Of course.

SPEAKER_01

I'm craving a cigar. I think I'm gonna go down to the to the gas station and get a honey berry backwards cigar.

SPEAKER_03

Cigars are so gross.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, they're good. How's uh the honey bear go ahead?

SPEAKER_03

Tell me about the honey bear.

SPEAKER_01

The honey the honeyberry cigars. Yeah. Man, I love them.

SPEAKER_03

Never heard of them. Hey, how's your uh how's your YouTube channel coming along?

SPEAKER_01

You were uh Oh, yeah, so anyway, about that.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, let's talk about it.

SPEAKER_01

I finally got my camera and I took it out to the job yesterday doing some videos of working on that winch, you know, doing my play-by-play and singing a little song. Yep, that was great.

SPEAKER_03

That was great content.

SPEAKER_01

Right, that was what my iPhone was.

SPEAKER_03

And you were in you were in Dollar Bay, right?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

That was awesome.

SPEAKER_01

So, anyways, um, yeah, I got back and I was you know, I was looking at all my content.

unknown

All it was is just a bunch of cut-up clips.

SPEAKER_01

Apparently the camera only runs for three minutes. So I was gonna send you some cool stuff. Right. And uh, and none of it, I mean, there's some cool stuff, but you know, to be you can they can watch it later on my YouTube channel and it doesn't exist yet.

SPEAKER_03

Right. This YouTube channel is gonna be epic. And uh and you're gonna get uh I always pronounce his name wrong. Is it Zeph or Zef?

SPEAKER_01

Zef.

SPEAKER_03

With a PH or FF PH. PH Zef. Because that guy's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

I know.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta get him to come on your uh YouTube channel.

SPEAKER_01

Well, he was out there the other day. Uh and but I didn't have my camera yet.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

My boy has a GoPro, but his only mount was he has stuck on the visor of his motorcycle helmet. I wasn't gonna wear that around all day.

SPEAKER_03

Well you could.

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, how about uh hey, how about the other guys? The the the machinist guys. What's their names?

SPEAKER_01

Oh, Sean and Yeah, you gotta get them on. Yeah. Oh, I'll definitely get them.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta get Zef and those guys on, because that is classic youper stuff.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Seriously. It's awesome.

SPEAKER_01

I know. They'll all be on there.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. You better not let me down.

SPEAKER_01

I won't.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I got the Aya Joe Kameini.

SPEAKER_03

What's that?

SPEAKER_01

My my partner Joe.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

My login partner.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

He looks like the Ayatollah Khomeini from Iran.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Tell me more. He's got a big beard or what?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Okay. He'll be on the show.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, we'll have we'll have all kinds of local local talent on there.

SPEAKER_03

That'll be awesome. And and not just the local talent, because uh, how about um I never shared in this because I didn't know exactly where I was going, but uh you had some shared some videos of Joey.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Joey is feeling pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

Had a good conversation with Joey. Okay. He said I'm his favorite person.

SPEAKER_03

Right. What's he been up to?

SPEAKER_01

Oh he he was there watching that uh that hockey tournament all weekend.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, he was? So he's a hockey fan.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, Joey always shows up at the hockey games.

SPEAKER_03

He's awesome. He's got good uh good energy. I I just I couldn't totally follow exactly what was going on, so I didn't uh I was just like I I enjoyed the videos, but I didn't yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, no. There ain't many of those that you could uh post family friendly hard keep under control.

SPEAKER_03

No, the dude is awesome. I know the dude is so awesome.

SPEAKER_01

It's just uh Yeah, it's not family friendly most of the time.

SPEAKER_03

I mean the the the best one I seen of him was when he was doing little the little jig and he said Justin Bieber don't got anything on him. That was that was the best one ever. And I think he was I think he was rocking the the Green Bay Packer uniform.

unknown

Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Not sure where that came from, but maybe he's a Packer fan.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It depends what day of the week it is, Joey.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Maybe it's Packers or Vikings or you never know. I'd love to see that do his ward role, though.

SPEAKER_03

Wouldn't that be awesome?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

That's great. Have you talked to Zeb lately?

SPEAKER_01

No.

SPEAKER_03

I think he might be out. I think he might be out fishing. He's uh have you heard about his lure?

SPEAKER_01

Nah.

SPEAKER_03

You have not heard about his lure?

SPEAKER_01

No, I haven't.

SPEAKER_03

Serious?

SPEAKER_01

No, he doesn't post anything on Facebook or Instagram. So how am I gonna know?

SPEAKER_03

He's not on those things. But if this lure takes off, me, you, and Zeb are gonna be living in Tahiti. We're gonna retire. We're gonna build the ice rink. We're gonna build the ice rink in Tahiti, and uh yeah, he'll just be selling lures. No, it's pretty awesome.

SPEAKER_01

What about can't we go to El Salvador?

SPEAKER_03

No, I don't. I'll have to look that up. El Salvador sounds sketch. War war war torn and crime and no, no, it's one of the safest countries now. Okay, tell us about it. Tell us about El Salvador and how you've fallen in love with El Salvador.

SPEAKER_01

Well, so they they apparently elected a new uh president that really cracked down on crime, but I was gonna go. But I can't find my passport. I mean, I know it's expired, but it's easier to be new than to get a new one.

SPEAKER_03

Right.

SPEAKER_01

And I don't know. All I can figure is it had burnt in the house fire back in 2010. So that must be where it's at.

SPEAKER_03

Um tell me about your house fire. How did that start? I didn't I didn't know about it.

SPEAKER_01

That was back in was it? Yeah, it was 2010.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Winter of 2010.

SPEAKER_03

What happened?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know, a wire. So they had put put it on a new furnace and they shoved the ductwork up in between two joists in the basement, and there was an electrical wire there. And they just shoved the ductwork up there and they had put that furnace in probably twenty-five years or earlier, and that wire finally wore through, like right below the living room floor.

SPEAKER_03

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

And started my house on fire.

SPEAKER_03

So the the the electrical wiring started your house on fire.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Wow. So this is a public service announcement for those listening. You should always hire a licensed electrician to do your electrical work.

SPEAKER_01

And a licensed or a smart um feeding licensing guy to do your ductwork. Not whoever did the ductwork in that house.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, so who did the ductwork on your house when you uh renovated it?

SPEAKER_01

Uh I hired uh local contractors.

SPEAKER_03

Well, give them a shout out. They need business.

SPEAKER_01

R RHC.

SPEAKER_03

Right. That's awesome. And they probably bought their materials from the High Rock hardware store.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, probably.

SPEAKER_03

And then fueled by uh East Fork Pasty Company, you you had a successful renovation of your prop project.

unknown

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. I still got my East Fork uh gift card here. I gotta use it.

SPEAKER_03

You gotta go use it. They're open.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I know. I know, but I'm fasting, so.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, that that's right. You know what's um interesting. I did a podcast earlier this week with a lady from uh Washington Trust Bank. And uh she had heard that the East Fork passed the episode, and she was pretty uh she was kind of touched about Henry's story. You know, when he was working on the train and how it came to him, and that was a pretty cool story, and she was wishing that they could ship him.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

But but I had shared with her that East Fork does not currently have the licensing or the credentials or whatever's involved to ship them. I guess that's a whole nother step up. But she was hoping to try East Fork pasty. So, hey, tell you what.

SPEAKER_01

Hey, listen start bootlegging.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, when you come hey, listen, listen. When you come out here, you gotta get a cooler with ice and get some and bring some out here.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, I will.

SPEAKER_03

Promise?

SPEAKER_01

Promise. Same with the full of rhombus, lumber, tongue, and groove cedar.

SPEAKER_03

And Eastwork pasties.

SPEAKER_01

And Eastwork pasties. You promise?

SPEAKER_03

No. No.

unknown

I promise.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, hey, let's wrap this up. This was a very special episode with Snowblower Snowblower from the UP. And this episode was edited and produced by Daisy Media. Follow and like and subscribe on Apple and Spotify and give us a five star review. Thank you. Good night.
