Kia ora, you are listening to Acoustic Avenue. This is Ted Crouch, your host for the next hour, on today's program presenting an international flavor for your listening pleasure. On Acoustic Avenue, we recognize with respect and gratitude that in the Shu Swap, the land on which we live, work, and play our music, is the unceded traditional territory of the Sequma people. Eoteoroa is the contemporary Maori language name for New Zealand. Today's program continues to share some of the music from recent travels to that beautiful country. First up is Jin Wigmore with Black Sheep from her second album, Gravel and Wine. Before production began on this album, Jin traveled for two months in Mississippi and Alabama to draw deeply on a southern US inspiration. Next is Mel Parsons and Get Out Alive from her second album, Drylands. This song is the result of her writing about a dangerous car accident she was in, where the car rolled four times and was totaled. But Mel walked out without serious injury and found herself reevaluating her life for a time. The set ends with Hayley Westenrod, born in Christchurch, and a New Zealand classical crossover singer and songwriter. Her first internationally released album, Pure, sold more than two million copies worldwide, making it one of the fastest selling albums in her country's history. You will hear across the universe of the time. Here is Jen Wigmore, Mel Parsons, and Haley Westenrod.
SPEAKER_02I got lots of jealous lovers, battle bitch, they have me back. If you still fall in my mama gave me back, make in my umball out, rabble and line. Everybody's doing it, so I done house you back. Everybody's doing it, so I done house you on a bag. I want to keep making that in the beat. Want to go back and never go back on a booty I wasn't on a beauty queen, but I'm okay with that. Maybe radio won't mind if I sing a little flat. I wear my boots too bad and I drop up on the wall. Speak me from a shallow break, do I take a fall? Every ball is too in it, so I'd have to win it, so I don't have to die on my back. Oh back on my battery. Oh, bitch. They have me back. I pistol for mama, gave me that bacon my own road on a grabble and some wine. Make me back on the eating beat. Come on up, come on up, I'm back. Once you go back, you don't pack it up, back on the back of the back, you told the back once you go black, you never go back.
SPEAKER_07I crashed my car on the way home. I wasn't even on the floor. On the phone over and over we did a roll. What a way to stop the show. Stop the show. Lucky to get out of that Lucky to get out of there My Mortality jumps in my throat. I held on Lord I hope Lord I hope I am a cat with one list. Someone looked out for me tonight. Be tonight. Oh yeah, put a thousand way. So when I split it out a bleed. Oh I got a good knock to the I could just as well be well. Oh cut out the way. As the light sink slow, will I see you anymore? As the green boss on the sky, can we bring you back from a distance level bag? Should we shove the story? In the deep shed of stars of my spirit, burning bright, spinning on into the sun. And the cold cold went, the ball spin away. Feeling alone is a black black day. And I know that you should be slow calling my circle is true and the song is not the same. Take my cut, completely fine. Tell me your beach must be my surprise and spikes. I thought yet I've never seen the face you turn around, looking at me. Love to read your eyes, and now I can see in the cold, cold windows away.
