Dogs is the second episode in the 8 part series called COVID Kids and Companions where we celebrate a few of the positive things that came out of COVID as we serve up a virtual cornucopia of creature companions.
On accounting avenue, we recognize with respect and gratitude that in the shoes that the land on which we live and work and play our music is the undefeated traditional territory of the Sequoia people. In the spirit of reconciliation, we acknowledge the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy. Welcome to the second installment of our special series COVID Kids and Companions, where we are celebrating a few of the positive things that came out of COVID. In today's show, we're going to focus on the rather noticeable increase in the number of adoptions of our canine compadres during the pandemic, often referred to as humankind's best friend. Dogs were the first animals to become part of the human family household. Over thousands of years, a bond developed between the two species that now is almost indistinctible for both. In fact, there is a story that goes like this that dogs were given to Adam and Eve by God to be their companions and to always be a reflection of his unconditional love for them. It could be that dogs are the only creatures on earth that will love you more than they love themselves. They are devoted, compassionate, and brave, loyal, loving, and playful, always there to protect your hearth and home, and have a heart that is ten times their physical size. So large that at times it makes us pause to ponder if we could actually become the person our dogs think we are. This is due in part because they also have an uncanny ability to always make us feel better if we're having a bad day. It's been said that there is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face. And puppies make one of the best gifts ever. You know the one. The gift wrapped a box that's moving under the Christmas tree. After all, who doesn't want a puppy? Today's show is the first of two episodes we'll play over the next month. And this is a collection of songs all about dogs and our relationship with them. In this set, you'll hear a group called the Song Trust with Choose Me and Jane Alderman with When I Found You, the adoption song. And we're gonna start off with Harry Nielsen from his self-titled album Harry. Here is the puppy song.
SPEAKER_13Dreams are nothing more than wishes, and a wish is just a dream you wish to come true. If only I could have a puppy, I'd call myself so very lucky. Just to have some company to share a couple of tea with me and take my puppy everywhere La la la la I wouldn't care. But we would stay away from crowds. And walk along beside the sea. Share a bit of moon with me. I'd take my friend most everywhere. La la la la, I wouldn't care. But we would stay away from crowds. Besides that said, no friends allowed all we'd be so happy to be Wa do Mama We'd be so happy to be together. But dreams are nothing more than wishes and a wish is just a dream. Wish to come true. Dream is about to come true, and you more than wishes and a wish just that you wish will come wish to come true, your wish will come true, your wish will come true, oh, oh wish will come true, your wish will come true. Dream you're about to come true in you more than truths and a wish, your wish just that your wish will come wish to come true, your wish I was born in a back alley about a year ago.
SPEAKER_05My mama was astray like me. Where she is now, I don't know. I've been chased and I've been yelled at, I've lived most my life in fear, but you can call me lucky since I wound up here. Choose me. I'm a good dog, I don't bite, and I'd love to fall asleep beside your bed every night. Choose me. I'm looking for a home, and I'll be the best friend you've ever known. Wait and see. Choose me. Well, I was cold and wet and hungry, I was living on the street. I had to go through garbage cans just to find a bite to eat. Then one day man caught me. I admit I was afraid. But they cleaned me up and fed me, and they put me in this cage. Choose me. I'm a good dog, I don't bite, and I'd love to fall to sleep beside your bed every night. Choose me. I'm looking for a home, and I'll be the best friend you ever know. Wait and see, choose me. People come, people go, and I hope you're the one who just can't stay no. Take me home. Won't you please choose me? So won't you please choose me? I was born in a bad galley about a year ago.
SPEAKER_08So many in the room it overflowed. I felt so sad for all those unadapted souls. So desperately in need that I chose you, and you chose me, and so it goes, and so it goes. Somewhere along the way, my heart was broken. I lost peace, but that's okay, cause now it's open. And there you were, you were by choice. You gave me purpose and a voice that's dwelling in my chest. Is love-filling empty nest? When I found you, I knew you were the one. In your darkest hour, did you know I'd finally come? The past is done and gone. Now we're going home to make a brand new start. When I found you, I found the missing piece of my heart. You're more beautiful than beauty, wild as the wind. With you, I'm closer to God than I have ever been. We've been moving towards each other through endless space and time. Some say I saved your life, but it's you that have saved mine. When I found you, I knew you were the one. In your darkest hour, did you know I'd finally come? The past is done and gone, and now we're going home to make a brand new stud. When I found you, I found the missing piece of my heart. And when our time on earth fades into mist, we will meet each other at the Rainbow Bridge. Though it's a mystery, I know it's meant to be. Since I found you, my life's forever changed. You've made me more than I could have ever been. That day I promised to always be there for you, will never be apart. When I found you when I found you, when I found you, I found the missing piece of my heart.
SPEAKER_00You're listening to Harry Nielsen, the song trust, and Jane Alderman. The second set continues with four more selections from our musical collection. From the album Good Old Dogs and God. That will be followed by Franklin Speaking from the album Depending on the Weather. And a song called Chasing Butterfly. Chris Stapleton will start things off with a song about his dog that was co-written with Robbie Robertson. Maggie's song is from his 2020 album Starting Over. Here is Chris Stapleton, Pryor and Lee, Frankly Speaking, and Terry Bush.
SPEAKER_07Somebody left her in a shopping car in a parking lot for us to find. Told her we were taking her home. Oh run, Maggie Run, be just as free as you are. Wow. A few kids later, we moved out on the phone. She followed those kids around. Yes, she kept them safe from home. And she loved the chase squirrel and playing out in snow. She ticked off like a bullet. Man, you should have seen her go. She woke up and couldn't use her legs, so I lay down by a side. She put her head on my hand, like she'd done so many times. I told her she was a good dog, then I told her goodbye. I had a revelation that's attracted to the whole. I can tell you right now that a dog has a soul, and I thought to myself, as we've been around here. Never knew me a better dog, and I guess I'm never mad with a heart of rich child. Oh wrong, man, be just free as you run, with a heart of rich child, oh wrong, man, wrong, be just free, as you are wow.
SPEAKER_04But if you just let a man your heart, good old dogs and guys won't ever let you down. They listen when you're talking, just happy around. I don't know why they love us, for they do no matter what. Two things you can count on, good old dogs and guys. But they won't ever tell. They've seen you at your weakest, helped you get through hell. But when you're indeed safe, feeling too far gone. They're always waiting there for you to come on home. Good old dogs and guys won't ever let you know. They listen when you're talking, just happy around. I don't know why they love, but they do no matter what. Two things you can count. Talk about them best friends. Good old dogs and girl never let you down. Listen when you're talking, just happy around. I don't know why they love us, but they do no matter what. Two things you can count on. Good old dogs and god, two things you can count on.
SPEAKER_02Good old dogs and god When I first saw you, I knew I had to take you home. My friends, they argued I couldn't raise you on my own. But I was sure that you are meant to be with me. You are my angel, step from above to set me free. Let's get in my car, and I won't take you for a ride. Go to the foreign, greet all the customers inside. I won't forget all that you've done for my life. My only hope is you're up there chasing butterflies.

SPEAKER_11I've always dreamed of having a friend that loves me like you do. You wake up happy every morning and take away my booze. I don't care what we do, darling, as long as you're with me. This is a song for my dog. Wish you could be singing along. This goes out to my best friend. You wait for me all day to come home sitting by the door. For you it's like a thousand hours. I swear it's just been for. I wish that we could have a conversation timed time. It'd be so nice to hear your voice and see what's on your mind. This is a song for my dog. Wish you could be singing alone. This goes out to my best friend. Cause life without you feels so wrong. And when there's a day that you must run across the rainbows, just sit and wait for me. Just sit and wait for me.
SPEAKER_09Well, I know that we share something, and I know it's something true, so I will follow you wherever you may think you'll go, and I'll go along with you. Take the lead, I'm right behind you. I don't really wanna be anywhere else, and I'm left wondering Where do you go when you go out that door? You're gone for oh so long, but I will wait just as long as it may take. I'll be here when you come home, and I will make all your troubles go away because I love you, and I don't want to see you I hear that other voice inside you The one that always knows to be the best you can, but it's alright I know sometimes you forget it's there, but I know that you still care All the time we spend Together it's so beautiful Well I know sometimes soon you will come home and we'll play forevermore Until then always Just as long as it may take I'll be here when you come home And I will make all your troubles go away Because I love you And I don't want to see you go I see your eyes connect with mine And it means the world to me And to make you smile For just a while I will wait Just as long as it may take And I'll be here when you come home And I will make all your troubles go away Because I love you I love you I will wait Just as long as it may take I'll be here when you come home and I will make all your troubles go away because I love you and I don't want to see you But I know that we share something And I know it's something true So I will follow you wherever you may think you'll go, I'll go along with you.
SPEAKER_01I was driving home one rainy day when I saw him by the road. He was just a little pub out there all alone. So I turned around and I chased him down and I got him in the car, and he grouted me the whole way home, and then he threw up on my arm. Now I've tried to keep him inside, but he just goes berserk. He has to be out in the yard, protecting our turf. Now it's tin below and blow and snow, and he's out there on guard, and you're gonna get bit if he catches you, snoopin' around the yard. He's my best friend, my old buddy. He's tough as nails, and he's kinda funny. And he's always got my back, and I got his. And then rolls over right on cue. And when she leaves, he acts like she just broke his heart into. He's my best friend, my old buddy. He's tough as nails, and he's kinda funny. And he's always got my back, and I got his.
SPEAKER_10A little more like you. Stop and smell the roses, be grateful to be outside. Be happy every morning. It's another morning your life. Forgive and let go. Still play when you get old. Don't judge others, just love each other. You gave me a brand new start when you showed me the world through a doll's heart. You were there when she broke my heart the last time. And you never cared when we were on our last time. You buried all my secrets, way down deep with your bones. You loved me for who I was when people would come and go. This couch wasn't built for two, but was big enough for me and you. Fur on the floor is what I pay to see you every day. Stop and smell the roses. Be grateful to be outside. Be happy every morning. It's another morning your life. Forgive and let go. Still play when you get old. Don't judge others, just love each other. You gave me a brand new start. When you showed me the world through a doll's heart. You made me laugh, you made me smile, and at the end you made me cry. When I had to kiss your head, had to tell you goodbye. Now I stop and smell the roses. I'm grateful to be outside. I'm happy every morning. It's another morning. I'm alive. I forgive my let go. I'll still play when I get old. Don't judge others, just love each other. You gave my life a brand new start. When you show me the world, show me the world. Show me the world through a dog hug. When you show me the word through a dog hug.
SPEAKER_14There once was a man, so an old story goes, Went to the station every day, rain or snow. His faithful dog would walk right by his side and sit there and wait till he came home at night. And when the man died, the dog still would go to the station each day. Why no one knows? He was waiting for someone he loved, waiting for someone he loved, someone he believed in, someone he could trust day after day, waiting for someone he loved. Days turn to weeks and months turn to years. Hoping to see that face he adore, his old true companion, the one he lived for. And then came the night when the dog finally died. Now I know he's there on by his master's side. Waiting for someone he loved, someone he believed in, someone he could trust. Don't you think humans could learn from that dark? Now I don't know about all of you, but I wish that my heart was so true to think he could miss him that much. He spent all his life waiting for someone he loved, waiting for someone he loved another day at end.
SPEAKER_12But maybe it's better that way. If I hear I'm sure you tell her, I'm a trust by get better again. So I keep keeping it all inside Finally, the tears will arrive, and I know somewhat she knows I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_00Before we go, we have a very special moment to share with you today. Here is Megan Abel and Little Laurent Home.
SPEAKER_11You were sleeping, I watched the sun break, I saw your breath fall into a morning wake, and we packed our bags for the palm trees. I'll let you be if you let me be me. Follow poppers through the poplar leaves, lying on the ground underneath the trees where the puppies play. And I found my peace where my heart would break, knowing we would leave. Tired minds see a storm like an earthquake. This is yours, this is mine. This was our time until we packed our little orange hoe. Little orange hoe, little orange hoe Late one evening, I watched you walk outside where the bright white snow lit up the cold dark night. Frozen air, we held each other tight, felt her warm heartbeats pulled with the northern life Tired eyes tell the story of a lifetime. Tired minds see a storm like an earthquake. This is yours, this is mine, this was our time until we packed our little orange home do we do do the do we can do it? Tired eyes tell the story of a lifetime. Tired minds see a storm like an earthquake. This is yours, this is mine, this with our time until we packed our little orange home. If these walls could talk about our old life, how five years could feel like a lifetime. This is yours, this is mine, this was our time. Love not less, just stayed up in our little orange hug, little orange hug. Love not lots, just stayed over.
SPEAKER_00Thank you for listening to Acoustic Avenue. This is Ted Crouch, signing off, and on behalf of Joe Little, from our hearts to yours, stay safe and love the ones you're with. Peace.
