Summer - We all have summertime rituals and traditions. — BBQ’s, Baseball and, if you’re lucky enough to live near the ocean or a lake, bonfires. You could head off to the beach in the early evening, start a fire with driftwood that you found lying around, cook hotdogs and roast some marshmallows. More often than not, a couple of the gang would bring their guitars and sit around singing songs while watching the firelight dance.
This show Beach Bonfire will feature some of those songs. As the first sparks leap into the night, shadows stretch and twine across the sand. The fire whispers ancient secrets, drawing hearts closer, as if each flicker is a promise of magic about to awaken.
This is Acoustic Avenue. I'm Ted Crouch, your host with co-producer Joe Little. We respectfully acknowledge that we live, work, and make our music on the traditional lands of the Sequekma nation who have cared for their territory within Turtle Island since time immemorial and continue to do so today. More often than not, a couple of the gang would bring their guitars and sit around singing songs while watching the firelight. In today's show, beach bonfire, we will feature some of those songs. To get things started, the Doobie Brothers play Blackwater. Following is JJ Hale with cocaine. SPEAKER_15You and me go fishing in the dark, line on our backs and count the stars where the blue grass grows. Down by the river in the full moonlight, we'll be falling in love in the middle of the night. Just moving slow.

Life is older, older than the trees, younger than the mountains, growing like a breeze. Country roads, take me home to the place I belong, West Virginia, Mamma, take me home, country roads, all my memories gather round her. Dark and dusty painted on the sky. Misty taste of moonshine. Teardrop in my eye. Take me home. Country roads. I hear her voice in the morning hours. She calls me. Driving down the road, I get a feeling that I should have been home yesterday. Yesterday, country road, take me home to the place. I be home West Virginia. Take me home. Take me home to the place.

But you know what you feel it. Country road, sail on home to Jesus. Won't you? Good girls and boys. I'm all in pieces. You can have your own choice. But I can be a heavenly band full of angels, and they're coming to set me free. I don't know nothing about the wild wind, but I can tell you that it's bound to be. Because I could feel it, child yet. On a country road. I guess my feet know where they want me to go. Walking on a country rope. Take to the highway, won't you? Lend me your name. Your way, my way. Seem to be one and the same child. Mama don't understand it. She wants to know where I've been. I have to be some kind of natural bone fool. I wanna pass that way again, but I could feel it low on a country road. Walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down, walk on down a country road.
SPEAKER_01La la la la la la la Cunnery. Oh yeah, walking on a counter road.
SPEAKER_02The minstrel love that dawn is here to make you laugh and bend your ear. Up the steps you'll hear him climb all full of thoughts, all full of rise. Listen to the pictures flow across the room into your mind. They go listen to the streams, they jangle and dangle the old guitaries. The minstrel love the dancy, not too wise, but also free. You'll talk of life out on the street, you'll play it sad and say it sweet. Look into his shiny face of loneliness. You'll always find a trace just like me and you he's trying to get into things more happy than blue. Just sit him down upon that chair, go fix him while sit it there. Listen to the pictures flow and follow the fingers where they go. Listen to the streams, the jangle and dangle of the old guitar in menstrual love, the dawn is near, just like a stepping fetch it here. Look into his shining eyes, and if you see a ghost, don't be surprised. Like the Ed He's trying to get into things more happy. He talks to the better days with your children's dream. Listen to the pictures blow across the room into your mind to go. Listen to the stream. I hope you'll come before too long. And if you need him, you must be the victim of this minstrel sing.

SPEAKER_15It was just after dark when the truck started down the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania, carrying thirty thousand pounds of bananas, carrying thirty thousand pounds, hit it big junk of bananas. He was a young driver, just out on his second job, and he was carrying the next day's based boots for everyone in that cold scarred city, where children played without despair in backyard slack miles, and folks manage to eat each day.
SPEAKER_13Open a just about their death thousand pounds. Dreaming again, John He passed the sign that he should have seen, saying shift the low gear of 50 dollars, find my friend. He was thinking perhaps about the warm breath woman who was waiting at the journey's end.
SPEAKER_15He started down the two-mile drop, the curve and the road that wound from the top of the hill. He was pushing on through the shortening miles that ran down to the depot. Just a few more miles to go.
SPEAKER_13Then he'd go home and have her ease. His long cramped the day away. And the smell of 30,000 pounds. A banana. Yes, the smell of 30,000 pounds. A banana. He was picking up speed as I said that spread its twinkling lights below him. But I paid no heed as a shivering thought of the night's delights who went through him.
SPEAKER_15His work nursed the wits to slow him down. But the pedal floored easy without a sound. He said you could raise.
SPEAKER_13Yellow green. I'm telling you, 30,000 pounds. Yes, there were 30,000 pounds. A bananas.
SPEAKER_15And I won't. And it's the dog to make it a dream. And the road is last track down. It's the dog to make it a drink. And his sideswipe 19 eat bar cars. Clipped all thirteen telephone poles. Hip two houses, bruised eight trees, and blue crossed seven people. It was then he lost his head. Not to mention an arm or two before he starts.
SPEAKER_07And he smeared for 400 yards along the hill that leads into Scranton, Pennsylvania. All those thirty thousand pounds.
SPEAKER_13Oh, the banana.
SPEAKER_15You know the man who told me about it on the bus as it went up the hill out of Scranton, Pennsylvania.
SPEAKER_04He shrugged his shoulders, he shook his head, and he said. And this is exactly what he said. Boy, it sure must have been shown. Just imagine thirty thousand pounds of bananas. Yes, there were thirty thousand pounds of mashed bananas of banana.
SPEAKER_05Just banana. Thirty thousand pounds of banana. Not no driver now, just banana.

On the road, hanging by a song, but the strings already broken and he doesn't really care. It keeps changing fast, it don't last for long. Shadow from the starlight is softer than a lullaby. Rocky mountain high. And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun. And he lost a friend with kept a memory. Now he walks in quiet solitude. The forests and the streams, seeking race in every step you take. I've seen it a raining fire in the sky. Off the goddess and to the casual vlog. Rocky mountain high logo. Rocky mountain high logo. Now his life is full of wonder, but his heart still goes to fear of a simple thing we cannot cover. While they try to tear the mountains down to bring in a couple more.
