Ahh the south pacific — island paradises with white sand beaches, crystal blue lagoons and palm trees swaying in a warm breeze. Sailing from one island to another, taking in the various cultures, is a dream vacation, that for most of us is on our someday maybe wish-list.
Although each island has its own distinct culture, they all share a common ancestry — Polynesia. The Polynesians headed out into the unknown and vastness of the Pacific Ocean in outrigger canoes - they colonized the islands as they discovered them.
From the Mariana Islands in the West to Easter Island in the East. New Zealand in the South to Hawaii in the North. An area of approximately 30 million square miles, which would make it, in area, the largest nation on earth.
In this show, we are going to island hop, and retrace — musically — the journey that those brave souls took so long ago.
This is Acoustic Avenue. I'm Ted Crouch, your host with Joe Little. On Acoustic Avenue, we recognize with respect and gratitude that these lands where we live, work, and play our music remain home to a number of indigenous nations and people. We acknowledge this land out of respect for the indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Ah, the south of the Pacific.
