In today’s episode we explore a question many believers wrestle with quietly: what do we do when our prayers feel unanswered?

In a culture that expects quick results and instant solutions, waiting on God can feel deeply uncomfortable. But Scripture shows us that God does not work according to human timelines. His ways are higher, and His purposes often involve shaping our character before releasing what we desire.

In this episode, we discuss how seasons of waiting can become seasons of preparation. You’ll hear why understanding God’s character is essential when prayers seem delayed and how believers can guard their hearts from discouragement while trusting His timing.

We also explore the role of spiritual growth, emotional healing, and personal preparation while waiting for God’s promises to unfold.

If you are praying for marriage, clarity, or direction in your life, this episode will help you reframe the waiting season and draw closer to God in the process.

Hey, welcome to the Single Equity Union Biblical Prep for a Godly Marriage Podcast. The place for Single Christian Women who experience about preparing for marriage to kingdom life. I'm your host, Georgina Wallace, and every week we'll have honest conversations about identity, feeling, purpose, and the practical steps you can take to become the woman God has called you to be before you stay away. Whether you're waiting, dating, or just starting time again, you're in the right place. Let's grow together on purpose. What if your unanswered prayer isn't rejection, but protection and a call to something deeper? We live in a world where everything is instant, same-day delivery, quick replies, fast results. If something takes too long, we assume something is wrong. But God does not operate according to cultural urgency. And sometimes what feels like delay is actually mercy. Today I want to talk about how we respond when heaven feels silent and our prayers are unanswered, and how to wait without allowing our hearts to grow bitter. If you're listening to this, there's probably something you've been praying for. For many of you, it's marriage. You're not just praying for a wedding or just a ring, but you're praying for partnership, stability, and a family. You want a covenant that lasts, a secure marriage full of love and expectancy, of a great life and a happy family. But beneath that prayer is often something even deeper. You wonder, Lord, do you see me? Do you remember me? When is it going to be my turn? And those are very genuine questions. Because when the prayers seem unanswered, it can start to feel uncomfortable. And this uncomfortable feeling can lead to a heart that is hardened. But it is possible to have a tender heart when waiting is hard. We are very used to getting things straight away. If we want something, we order it. If we need information, we Google it. If we want connection, we message instantly. But that's not how God does things. But we can be tempted to expect God to do things and answer us according to our standards and cultural and social norms. It is very easy to put expectations on God based on what we receive in our daily lives. And it's easy to forget that God does not move according to our social timelines. He is not pressured by our age. He is not intimidated by comparison. He is not rushed by engagement announcements on social media. The Word of God says, For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. You can read that in Isaiah chapter 55, verse 8. And this is where tension begins. We have to align ourselves with God's ways and his word. God loves us but won't compromise his word for our sake. We should take time to get to know his character. If we were to take our friends as an example, you know your friends well enough to know what upsets them, how they're likely to respond in certain situations, how they speak and what their body language means. In the same way, we should seek to know the Lord like this. We are all on a journey in our relationship with God, but he gives us clear insights into his ways in his word. When we're praying about our future marriage, we can say to ourselves, I've prayed, I've prepared, I've stayed faithful, so why hasn't this happened yet? This is the vulnerable place where bitterness can quietly start to grow if we're not careful. We can start to compare ourselves with others and feel as though we're missing out or that there must be a difference between me and them because they're getting married and I'm not. Largely this isn't true, but how we handle and approach these circumstances while we're waiting for our own praise to be answered is vital. Here's something we don't talk about enough. Waiting doesn't have to be passive. This is what I teach and help women to do while they're waiting. Use your time with wisdom and don't allow it to go to waste. The best asset you have is your time. I'm sure you've heard of it where the saying says, time is the only thing you can spend and never get back. While you're waiting, God is an idol. He may be healing emotional wounds you didn't know were still influencing you. Maybe he's teaching you financial stewardship, strengthening your discernment, building resilience, or even deepening your dependence on him. Let me ask you something gently. If you were proposed to you tomorrow, could you actually get married? Now I don't just mean are you financially ready, but are you ready emotionally, spiritually, relationally, would you be ready for covenant? Some would argue that you can never be fully ready to get married, and they would be right. But this shouldn't stop us from asking this question and making efforts to work on ourselves before marriage. Hey, I just wanted to jump in here really quickly. If you're enjoying this, please like this video and subscribe to my channel. And if you're able to, share it with a friend. There was a time in my own life when I felt like the Lord was taking a long time to let me meet my husband. I started praying about marriage and my children quite early from my teenagers. So by the time I hit my mid-twenties, I felt like maybe something was wrong or there was some form of delay. But God wasn't delaying me. He was fully aware of my desires. He wasn't being unfair. But when I look back, I learned something. If God had given me a husband when I wanted one, I most likely would have damaged my own marriage because of unresolved issues in my heart. What I experienced as delay was actually his mercy. He wasn't withholding anything from me. He was protecting what he intended to give me because I wasn't ready to steward it well. I think most of us have heard of an issue or a problem within someone's marriage. But if you use wisdom, in many cases you can reverse engineer those issues and see how you can apply the knowledge of those problems to your life as a single person and ask yourself questions on what you can do to prevent such an issue happening in your own life. Nothing can ever fully prepare you for marriage, but this shouldn't stop us from making efforts to learn anyway. So waiting can be used as a time of formation. So when we think about it, sometimes unanswered prayer is not no, it's not yet, not this version, or not without preparation. And sometimes it's not even about you. It could be that your future husband isn't ready. God loves you too much to give you to a man who cannot yet steward you. Your husband is to be the head of the home. Would you want to be married to a man that doesn't lead well, makes poor decisions, and doesn't manage his finances or health well? As much as God is shaping you, refining you and developing you, he may be doing the same for him. This is one of the reasons why praying for your future husbands matters so much. Whether you know him yet or not, your prayers matter. They cover him, they strengthen him, they align him, they prepare him. I've said many times that we can take the opportunity to grow and develop ourselves in the area of our emotions, finances, character, and work on our spiritual maturity. Spiritual maturity is important when you're getting married because you'll be stewarding a new family. You will be responsible for your newly formed family and a life that is fully surrendered to God will be able to carry the weight of this much easier than someone who isn't fully surrendered. We have to remember that marriage between husband and wife is a reflection of Christ and the church. The enemy hates marriage because of this and attacks marriages. You can ask any married person, and I'm sure they'll say the same thing. So having a life that is disciplined, a life that is directed by the word of God, and a disciplined prayer life is so important. This isn't to say though that if you're not disciplined, that you won't get married or that your marriage will fail. We're all on a journey and we should just do our best. Sometimes what the Lord has for us is being held back because we may not be able to steward it well yet. God is not primarily concerned with giving us what we want quickly. He is concerned with shaping us to look like Him. He cares deeply about our internal salvation, our character, our obedience, our likeness to Christ more than our timelines. The greatest danger in unanswered prayer is not delay. It's having a distorted view of a season of life that's meant to be beautiful. Your single years are a gift and you should be living life to the fullest. If we do not truly know God's character, we can start to paint a picture of him based on disappointment. We can start thinking things like, he's delaying me, he's not faithful, he's forgotten me. God's unfair. But those conclusions often come from interpreting God through emotion rather than through scripture. The only way to trust God's character is to know his character. And the only way to truly know his character is through his word. Yes, we experience him in our lives. Yes, we build relationships with him through prayer, but those experiences must be grounded in scripture. Otherwise, we can unknowingly create a version of God that's not accurate, and that can lead to offense. And once we become offended at God, bitterness can begin to settle in. Waiting is hard. Let's not pretend it isn't. We have to trust God's character when his timing is unclear and let our heart remain soft while we wait. We can do this by having a posture of worship. Focusing on who he is and what he has already done for you keeps your heart in a place of reverence. Doing this daily and letting it become a part of your everyday life really helps. When you do these things, it helps your heart to stay softened because you are focusing on you and what you are building or growing in. When closeness with him becomes the goal, not just marriage, waiting transforms into a season of deep intimacy with the Lord. This intimacy actually helps you discern if the man who does want to get to know you is really for you or not. This is because the intimacy you have with the Lord gives him the room to speak to you and your heart is primed to listen and hear when he speaks. If you think of it this way, anything that is near a source of heat will get warm, and its temperature will be dependent on its proximity to the source of the heat. Let's just say it's a fire. The closer an object is to the fire, the hotter it becomes. The further that same object is from the fire, the cooler it becomes. Intimacy speaks of proximity. You have to be close to God to have an intimate relationship with Him. Jesus says, if you draw close to me, I will draw close to you. Use this waiting season to draw close to your Heavenly Father. Like I said at the beginning, our hearts can grow weary and bitter when we're waiting for praise to be answered. But we can use this time of waiting well and to our advantage, especially when it comes to waiting for our husband. The goal is not simply to become a wife. The goal is to know him. And when you stay close to him, you begin to trust how he does things, even when you don't fully understand them. If you are in a season where your prayers feel unanswered, I want you to remember this. God is not late. He is not careless, he is not indifferent, he's intentional. And sometimes what feels like silence is actually him shaping you. So stay close to him, stay soft, stay in his word, trust his character, and while you wait, grow. Because when what he has for you arrives, you want to be able to steward it well. Until next time, may the Lord richly bless you.
