What if the greatest danger in our spiritual lives isn't outright rebellion, but simply having our priorities misaligned? This powerful message challenges us to examine whether we're truly pursuing Jesus Himself, or merely pursuing things about Jesus—knowledge, good works, compassion for others—while missing the Person at the center of it all. Drawing from Matthew 9:35-10:1 and the profound shepherd imagery of Ezekiel 34, we're confronted with a stunning reality: we cannot see like Jesus until we've first truly seen Jesus. The passage reveals a God who doesn't wait at a distance for us to clean ourselves up, but who actively seeks and saves lost ones. He is the Good Shepherd who enters our wilderness, our pain, our confusion, and declares, 'I myself will rescue my sheep.' This isn't about our compassion for a broken world—that's secondary. It's about being so captivated by His passion for us that everything else flows from that wellspring. When we reorient our vision around Jesus first, the question shifts from 'Will this person be saved?' to 'Does Jesus save?'—and suddenly we know the answer with unshakeable confidence. The harvest isn't the problem; prayerlessness is. The solution isn't found in our efforts, but in looking to the Lord of the harvest who sends us out with His presence and power.
