King Taco came to the BMP podcast with some truths. He wants people to sit down, learn about themselves, and reflect on his songs. Of course, some songs are just to party to.

The story of how he came by the name is also funny.

Take a listen to this man's story, because it might become household knowledge. It's all on the BMP podcast.

After a long day, it's hard to turn off. That's why I go to Mammoth Cannabis on 212 Ohio Street. Their stuff will have you laid out flatter than a mammoth footage. From flour to pre-roll, vaporizers to concentrate. You can rest assured that something big is waiting for you at Mammoth Dispensary. Just keep in mind, if you smell cereal from the General Mills factory nearby, they can't help you. You have to go home and get a bowl yourself. It's a dispensary, not an eatery after all.

SPEAKER_04

Hello, uh, good morning, good evening, good night, um, DMP listeners. This is Benjamin Joe. And I am Max. And with us today is a very unique guest. Um, I thought that his first name was King because a family member, his name was King before he passed away. But he's informed me that his name is actually Taco, but like you might know him a little bit better as King Taco.

SPEAKER_01

That's right, that's right. What's good with y'all, man? How's everybody feeling today? Happy to have you, man. Thank you, man. Thank you. How did you uh come up with the name? Let's get right into it. Bro, it's kind of wild, but I got into the name because I was working at this plate at a steel plant, right?

SPEAKER_04

Steel plant?

SPEAKER_01

Steel plant, yeah. I was working at a steel plant. Blue collar. That's the biggest one. Blue collar, man, and that and that it was a hell of a job, too. Mad strenuous. You was picking up heavy bars, 300-pound bars every single day, all day. Like, bro, good job. I'll say that, you know, union, everything was great. You know, fantastic job. I still love the job. I mean, I haven't been there in a while, you know. I haven't worked there in a while, but you know, good job and everything. But I used to work at the steel plant, and then, you know, there's a couple of dudes over there that was, you know, they older white dudes, and they everybody likes to give everybody nicknames, and you know, so you know, one day they was just like, yo, like, we gotta give you a nickname. I'm like, man, whatever you want. You can call me whatever. I got thick skin. I go, you can call me whatever. So they they was like, okay, you we can start calling you whatever. They was like, yeah, we're gonna call you taco. I'm like, oh shit. But then, you know, I was like, that's not gonna stick. That ain't never gonna stick. So I'm like, okay, whatever. So they kept calling me taco, da-da-da. And then three years later, that shit stuck heavy. Yeah, now and I was like, damn, so like that's like my name now. Everybody knows me by taco. So I was like, you know, when I started my music journey, you know, I was like, some everybody already knows me by taco, so might as well just put the king in front of that motherfucker. Fuck us. So we ended up doing it like that, and then that's the name, and it's stuck, and it's stuck heavy now.

SPEAKER_02

So man, you used to pick up uh bars at your old job, but now you drop them for your new one.

SPEAKER_01

That's a fact, that's a whole fact, bro. That's a whole fact.

SPEAKER_04

I gotta say, like, you know, you're very versatile. I mean, listening. I mean, not only do you rap, but you got some good lyrics and good tempo and everything, but you also have a really good voice. And yeah, you know, I hear a lot of old auto-tune out there, and like you I'm just like, oh wait, this guy can um he knows how to sing. Oh yeah, oh yeah, I can sing sing, you know what's where did you learn to sing singing? Yeah, where'd you sing sing? I wanna know.

SPEAKER_01

Well, honestly, bro, I I never had no training. I never been to choir in school, I never was in like singing in church, and uh I've never I never learned I never learned how to sing correctly, you know what I'm saying? So I just picked it up because I love RB music. I love listening to the old tracks, you know, like you know, Boys to Men, Michael Jackson, you know, like a bunch of like different types of pop and RB, and I just was like, I'm gonna try it. And then there it is. I and I I'm doing it, you know what I'm saying? So it's just weird. Like, I I mean everybody asked me that question, like, yo, did you have some kind of like vocal coaching or nothing? I'm like, bro, the only vocal coaching I ever had was like YouTube. I literally go to YouTube and just learn like how to control it certain ways, and you know, I don't know the music theory behind it. So I'm just singing, you know what I'm saying? And and I'm just I'm just lucky, bro. Honestly, I'm just lucky. I'm blessed with a good voice, basically. You know what I'm saying? Some people get a good end of the stick, you know what I'm saying? I got it on that part. So it's good.

SPEAKER_04

You've been you've been doing this like since 2020. I was looking at some of the older tracks, Dance With You, for instance. Like oh my do you like that track? Because I really like that track. Do you? I do. It's different, it's different from like, but it's still but it's still like it's it's about to be.

SPEAKER_01

Yo, that's funny, bro. That's funny, yeah. No, that's yeah, bro. I haven't done it. That's a that's an old track, bro. Y'all dug in the dug deep stuff. Yeah, it's not about Spotify, yeah. You know, like some of these old tracks, I was like, you know what, I'm gonna keep these old tracks because I want to show people the progression. Exactly. I want to show people, you know, where I started. Like, okay, maybe this is trash, maybe it's not good. Oh, it's it's but you know, as you progress, you start seeing like the production value is different. I'm going to different studios, I'm trying different things with different engineers. So, and that's what I wanted. I wanted people to see, you know, just the progression of music. You know what I'm saying? There's so many people that, you know, there's a lot of artists right now that when they get they get signed to a deal, you know, they delete all their old stuff. And then they have one song that's super popular. Yeah. And everyone's like, oh, that's an industry plant. You know, like he only popped up with one song. Not really. He had mad other songs, but now you can't see the progression in that. You know what I'm saying? So, and that's I think that's important as an artist. You gotta, you, you gotta, you gotta know where D started, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, you really you really understand, like, okay, he's good, really good now. Back then he was garbage, but he learned, you know, he's he's he's coachable.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I'm saying? And I feel like that stuff is important because like the artist has to be its own artist development because no one's gonna do it for you anymore, you know what I mean? So it's like it's your own way of like being like, okay, I started here, I'm going here though.

SPEAKER_01

You know, that's a whole fact, bro. There's there's not a there's not any artist development anymore in this game. You know, like back in the days, bro, they used to pick up a kid off the street that could hold a tune, and they they will literally change him into a superstar. They put money behind him. Money behind him, they just won't put a quarter. Oh, hell no. You gotta be on in order to be on already. No, I know. You wanna get signed? They got you gotta have 500,000 followers, you gotta have, you know, two hit records already. I'm like, then what's the point of the record league? Y'all supposed to do it. Y'all supposed to do that for me. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

I got the talent you're supposed to do for me. Like $10,000, like make make get a tour and like get some music going. Like that's great, you know.

SPEAKER_01

But you know, nowadays, like the music game is all messed up, bro. It ain't it ain't nothing like that no more.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's a it's uh basically like a talent show.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, basically, you know, you know, you gotta look good, you gotta look pretty, you know, you gotta look handsome, you gotta look a certain type of way, you know what I'm saying? And and you know, there's not a lot of Mexican RB artists like that. You know what I'm saying? But there really isn't no Mexican RB artists, so that's why I'm like, I gotta break. That's like my I mean, I don't want to say it's a gimmick, but I there's a gimmick, and of course, you know what I'm saying? Well you just you get you you start off with what you got. Yeah, yeah. I'm starting off like this, and and you know, it's it's working for me right now. So I'm like, I'm gonna just stick with it and have fun with it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

I like how like you know, the latest track of Am I Wrong, you're just like it's like, so am I wrong? Like I presented myself like like this is my idea, like you know, seriously, tell me, like, am I wrong or am I not wrong?

SPEAKER_01

Right, exactly. Yeah, that's that's how it was. That's how I was like, yo, like, you know, that track it's a special track, man. I love the track, and and uh, you know, it was just like, you know, I always I always wanted to tell people a story in my music, you know. I want people to like visualize something, you know? Because there's so much music out there that, you know, they just yapping, you know what I'm saying? They just talking on the mic, and you're just like, all right, where is this going? Like, it's not giving me a story, it's not giving me a feeling, you know, it's just telling you telling people you're shooting, I'm killing, I'm selling drugs. Like, it's like we're alright, man. Like, you don't really talk about that. You're born the romance level, oh yeah. Well, because usually exactly. That's where I got it from, you know, like Boys to Men, they always singing about heartbreak and love and you know what I'm saying, like all kinds of good stuff. So, like, that's where I really got it from, man. That's why I based all my most of my music now. You know, I I I was a rapper before. And you know, I transitioned to to doing the RB more because that's just more what I love to do, you know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah. So, and I and I feel like it's just it's a lot more heartfelt, and you know, I get I pull emotions out of people like that sometimes, you know what I'm saying? I'd be having sometimes people be crying, like be like, yo, that's such a good one.

SPEAKER_02

That's how you know you really got some RB.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, oh yeah. That's that's how you know, that's how you know, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

So how how do you want people to respond to your tracks, like in general? Like, because I mean some people are just like, I just want them to have it on. Like in like I would like like there's a party, I want my music to be on on on the speaker. Right. Like, but other people really want people to like, no, like, seriously, listen to the like you just talk about real shit here, like you're gonna learn something from like listen to this track. That's a fact, that's a fact. You know, what do you what do you think? Is it more entertainment or is it is it more uh I don't want to say preaching because that makes it sound like it's bad, not a bad thing, you need to be like approximatizing your views, like going to help you with the tune to help people understand what's going on.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right. I mean for me I feel like it's more a little bit of both, you know. I I I want people to sit down and listen to the lyrics and and like take you on a journey, or maybe take you on a uh a past relationship, or you know, the current relationship you have if you're having trouble with it, or you know, just like reflect on different types of relationships you have. Wow, yeah. But um, you know, but I do have a couple of party joints where I'm like, yeah, just throw that thing on. I want people to just dance and get crazy. Well, the quick too, part two. Like that that that was in the in the Knicks uh uh playoff. Oh yeah, yeah, the Knicks playoff one too. Yeah, those are just party songs. You know, I'm like, I'm not really saying anything to really tell a story. I just, you know, those songs are just like, let's just have some fun, let's just turn up, let's just dance. The beat is hard, it's you know, the lyrics are just going, and and you just going crazy, you know what I'm saying? So that's that's you know, I like to make both music, both types of music, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you gotta you can't just do the same thing over and over again because that would get boring and you know, it would get bad. Like it would get bad.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you just gotta switch it up a little bit, you know what I'm saying? You always gotta switch it up a little bit. You always be throwing people curveball every now and then.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Well, tell me a little bit more about like your your progression. Like, obviously, since you want like did you quit your job and start or what were you still working at that point in time? Well, I was still working.

SPEAKER_01

I mean you might still be working at this point in time, but like um you well, I started making music when I was at the steel plant, which was close to I'd say seven, seven years, eight years now or something like that. Like 2019, like right before the pandemic or like a little bit before the pandemic, probably like a year before the pandemic, I would say. And you know, I was uh you know, I started making music because you know, my homeboy, you know, I never sang before. I never wrote a music music before. I love listening to music, but I never did any of that. And my buddy was like, yo, like have you ever like tried, you know, doing like you know, singing music? And I'm like, no, like, you know, I'll sing some old school stuff, you know, maybe a cover or something, but you know, he was like, yo, if you have such a good voice, I want to buy microphone and buy everything I need to get for you, and then I will put you in a mic and then you just do some stuff. And I'm like, all right, I guess we're supportive friends, yeah. Really supportive. Dude, that that dude, that that's one of my best friends, bro. Like, he put me on a music, like, you know, right now he's not really into music anymore, but you know, he put me on. He was like, yo, like I really want to like do something with you. And I'm like, all right, bet. So we, you know, we ended up I wrote my first song, never wrote a song before, never sung in a microphone before, didn't know anything about anything. So, you know, and then that's what started my journey. I was like, you know, I started writing a couple songs, I was rapping, I was doing a little bit of singing. I was like, man, like I really like this shit.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, wow.

SPEAKER_01

You know, we ended up, you know, I ended up sticking with it, and I'm here where I'm at now, you know. I I love that. I love music.

SPEAKER_02

What is your feeling on the modern like the state of RB now? Because like it used to be rhythm and blues, but now it's more like rhythm and bang. You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01

That's a good question. So, you know, old school RB was like really like nowadays, RB is not. It's just it's like fucking music. Yeah, basically, like it's just like yo, that's no good music, bro. It's literally fucking music. And like, you know, motherfuckers wanna be like, oh, I'm gonna fuck this bitch, do this and do that, go all crazy. But it's like, yo, y'all missing the part where like nobody got love no more, yo. Oh gone, there's no love out here. Like, it's you know, I be feeling bad for the people that are out here dating because yo, you ain't gonna find no love out here, you know what I'm saying? And that's why I'm trying to bring the RB. Like, I'm like, yo, if I could bring some RB and show people some love, like maybe they be like, Man, I'll change my tune.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I'm saying? How do you because even you admit there's no love out here? It's like you're trying to bring water to the desert, though. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It is, it's hard, you know, but but you know, like I know it's like there's there's you know, right now there's a couple RB artists that are really blowing up and they're really like bringing that pain, you know what I'm saying? Like that heartbreak. And I'm like, oh my god, that stuff, you know, and and and you know, so I'm like, bro, I gotta I gotta ride that wave because there's not many of us. Yeah. So, you know, like I think that me bringing that to the table is gonna switch things around a little bit, you know? Yeah, it's it's gonna change from what it is now, just fucking music or shooting and killing and rob this dude and whatever the case may be, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, I think just bringing that is just gonna bring a little fresh air to the spot, you know what I'm saying? People people gonna people gonna fuck with it, you know. It's gonna stick out more too. Yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

Speaking of fresh, like how do you feel about like when you're singing in front of an audience? Like live, live performance. You gotta show it tonight, like, you know, I'm sure how do you prepare? Like, what what do you have anything? Everyone, I mean you're always gonna be nervous, right? Like, yo, you know, first time you're sweating and you're shaking, second time, like yo, you may have to get the shakes under control, you're still sweating like a pig. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like, oh man, you know the stomach stuff. When I try to prepare, you know, you know, when I first started doing music, you know, obviously I was like, Yo, I need to get some beer in me. I gotta get drink a couple of beers, give me a shot, give me something, you know, to kind of like calm the nerves. But like now, you know, um, you know, I don't need to do any of that now. Like, but you know, now I just really focus on, you know, rehearsing at home. Practicing, rehearsing, what I'm gonna do, how I'm gonna move, where I'm gonna walk on stage, where I'm gonna, you know what I'm saying? So um, you know, I I just leave it all to the just a practice. If you if you're not practicing, you're gonna mess up. So practice, practice, practice, rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, and then, you know, when you step on stage, that you know, you'll still be a little nervous. You know, I'm not gonna say you can you ain't gonna be nervous at all, but you know, you're gonna have a little little nervousness to you, but once you grab that mic and you start getting in it, then it then it just then it just flows. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

Do you concentrate on like one girl in the room or anything like that?

SPEAKER_01

Or like um, I I try to focus on a little bit of everybody. I I try to spread the love to everybody. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I'm saying? Like, but but shit, like I I sing to women, I sing to guys too. I don't give a fuck. Like, you know what I'm saying? I be out there just doing because it's a performance at the end of the day. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a performance. I'm I'm putting on a show, you know what I'm saying? And like, you know, I do a little dancing, a little this, a little that, you know what I'm saying? And you know, I just want I just want to put on a good show, and that's the bottom line, you know what I'm saying? Because if you on stage just standing there shaking with the mic in your hand, like everyone they don't see the confidence, you know what I'm saying? You gotta be confident out there, and then people gonna love it even more, you know what I'm saying? Absolutely. Because they go out to see you, and I just you sing, you know, all of you, yeah. Oh, yeah, that that's what it is too. That that's that's a big thing, you know. Like, you know, a lot of these big artists, you know, they obviously they can listen to the music at home, they could do this at home, they could live, but you know what I'm saying? Like, it's not the music that brings people out there. It they want to see that artist, they want to see that artist move and interact and talk and whatever, you know what I'm saying? So, like that that's really important to me as like the really performance aspect of it.

SPEAKER_04

Um, your crowd, um actually I I should get into the uh where's he's he's here audience, the BNB listeners. He's got a cowboy hat on, he's got a poncho, he's got this uh little uh uh like hem necklace or some sort of bracelet or something, like a glass beads, a couple rings, whatever, but um you don't look like you're from around here a little bit. Are you where where are you from? Where like you're living in Buffalo area now, but like Yeah, well I'm originally from uh Texas.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, Texas. Yeah, Amarillo, Texas. That makes a lot of sense. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Amarillo, Texas, yeah, yeah, that's where I'm from. I was raised there since I was I'd say six, six, seven years old. Wow. Um, and I was raised there until I was till like 2010, 2011, you know. And you know, I've been here ever since. But uh, you know, I still hold on tight to those, you know, Texas roots because, you know, I learned a lot from Texas.

SPEAKER_04

South by Southwest, you know.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

A lot more sauce in Texas than there is in Buffalo, for sure.

SPEAKER_01

They definitely got some sauce in there. They got their sauce over there. You know, they be riding the wide bodies and the catalysts and the, you know what I'm saying? Like damn it, a whole other world.

SPEAKER_04

Do you ever get back there and like like have you played a show out there in Amarillo or anything like that?

SPEAKER_01

I haven't played a show out there, but you know, I go back there and I visit my family from time to time. But like, I think the next time I go out there, I'm definitely gonna be. I I've already been locking in with some people that live in Texas and that are artists and everything. I'm definitely gonna pull up and do a show out there soon. Soon, very, very soon. So we're gonna make, we're gonna figure it out. You know what I'm saying? It's all it's all you know, we gotta make plays little by little, you know what I'm saying? But I'm definitely gonna that's that's one of my goals is to go perform in Amarillo. That's where I'm from, you know what I'm saying? So, and I love it.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, awesome. You have a lot of pride in yourself and being Mexican and stuff like how have you always been like that, or like um you kind of grow into it type of thing.

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, I was raised around a you know, my mom is Puerto Rican, my father's Mexican. Okay. And um, you know, I was raised around both, you know what I'm saying? So I've always had like that Mexican pride, I've always had that Puerto Rican pride. And um, you know, but like just recently I've been like, you know what, I really gotta like show out for my Mexicans, you know what I'm saying? Because, you know, there's a lot of Mexicans out here that they kinda hurting. So I'm like, I gotta, you know what I'm saying? They stay out here kind of hurting. So I'm like, yo, I gotta put on for my people, you know what I'm saying? I want people to know, like, you know, there's an RB artist out here. Cause there's, you know, the amount of Mexican parties I've been to that they play RB music. Very slim. It is very slim. Yeah. But I gotta put on for my people, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, I just I I I'm very prideful of my my heritage, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, there's like there's like you, and then there's like that Mexican OT.

SPEAKER_01

That Mexican OT, that's that's my guy right now. And then there's just boxers pretty much. Mm-hmm. You know? Yeah, big boxing. I love box. That's one of my favorite sports too. Yeah. I love boxing. Do you only box you ever been in the ring? Like, oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, I've been a box. I I boxed since I was so long ago. Seven, eight. I boxed and I stopped boxing probably, I'd say probably like five years ago. I probably stopped five, six years ago, I probably stopped boxing.

SPEAKER_00

Because I'm a lover, not a fight.

SPEAKER_02

I could get in there, I could, you know what I'm saying? I couldn't serenade somebody after you knock them out and expect crazy.

SPEAKER_04

In the ring, like going back and forth. Like that's some psychological warfare right there.

SPEAKER_01

But yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I I love boxing, man. I used to be a boxer and I had a bunch of fights. Obviously, I never went pro, but you know, I boxed a lot and and I know a lot about boxing, man. So I love it. I I watch, I watch every major fight I watch. You know what I'm saying? I don't never miss no boxing. I don't miss no boxing. Do you like the mi the mixed martial arts kickboxing at all or anything? I'm I'm I've been kind of getting into like UFCs or mixed martial arts, so they're getting a little more into that. But like, you know, I don't know people's names and like, you know, everything like that, but we still it it it's still mad entertaining. I love people knocking each other the fuck out. Like, you know what I'm saying? And they really be kicking people and elbows and like Bro. And I used to wrestle too when I, you know, yeah, I wrestled in high school and in middle school. So, like, those are my two favorite sports. And and I remember everybody used to tell me, like, yo, like, you already wrestle, you box, you're already putting it all together. Why don't you just go into MMA? And I'm like, I probably could've, but I was like, eh. They have some good camps in Texas, so you could've. Oh hell yeah, boxing is huge in Texas, too. So, like, you know, when I started boxing when I was a kid, bro, like, they was so like, and and some of the boxing gyms out there, like, they were so rough. Like, I was a kid walking in there, probably like seven, eight years old. I had no parental guidance. My my mother was busy. She had I was going to this boxing gym with a homeboy that I met, and um, he was just like, yo, you want to start boxing? I didn't know what boxing was, like a punching people, shit, fuck yeah, let's go. Yeah. And when I went there, man, like they was like, yo, you want to box? You want to box? I was real bad when I was a kid too. So I was like trying to be tough and shit, you know. And I remember I f I sparred with the kid and he was smaller than me, and he beat the fucking shit out of me. I was crying. I was like, I was like, bro, I'm never coming back to this fucking place. And then like the the trainer was like, listen, like, you know, because he cause he asked me before we get in the ring, he was like, You boxing, you fought before? I fought before. I be fighting people in the streets. You know what I'm saying? Not like this, not like that, dog. So I was like, Yeah, that can beat the hell out of me. And then uh, you know, after that he was like, yo, like, he was like, listen, like, come back and we're gonna teach you. We're gonna teach you how to fight. We're gonna teach you this, we can teach you that. And then like I just kept going back. I don't know why I did, but I kept going back and I loved it, you know. That that shit taught me discipline. Yeah, really kept me out the streets, you know, because I was such a just I wasn't a menace when I was a kid. I was cursing at teachers, spitting on teachers, like I was a bad kid. I was a bad I was dude, I was a nightmare, bro. And I'm glad that I, you know, got into something that like you know helped me, like, I don't know what was wrong with me, man. I was just a loser.

SPEAKER_02

That guy that ass beating kind of just like it kind of makes sense.

SPEAKER_04

Like looking at how how often you're you're putting music out there, it's just like this guy, if he gets knocked out, he's going right back out with another single within like a few, like like a month at the most.

SPEAKER_01

That's a fact. That's a fact, yeah. That's why I was like, yo, I gotta stay con like this. It taught me discipline, consistency, you know, because when you're boxing or any sport you do, if you don't practice, you don't win. You don't get better. You have to practice, you have to do your craft every day. You gotta apply yourself to put that timer because nobody else is gonna do it for you. Exactly, exactly. And that's what that I I really take that kind of fighting, you know, discipline to my music because I'm like, yo, I gotta fight, fight, fight. You know, I gotta get in here because it's the music game is it's a fight, man. It's crabs in a barrel. It is. You know what I'm saying? It's literally crabs in a barrel. Everyone's trying to make it out. And the pr the the probability of you making it super successful music, bro, that's like going into the NFL. That's like a 1% chance. You know what I'm saying? So like everybody is scraping and clawing to get that, you know what I'm saying? And you know what I'm saying, like I was just like, yo, I gotta, like, I gotta work harder than everybody.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's the only way I'm gonna make it. I gotta work harder, I gotta be better. And that's what I just do.

SPEAKER_04

I try. You know, I mean, I don't want to put you on the spot, but is there a song actually that that kind of like that you really feel like really puts you out there? Like maybe your best song out there that we can go play a clip of, maybe? Oh man, you know. There's a lot of them, folks. Honestly, if you go on Spotify, just like check it out.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I got a couple of songs, you know. So I got, you know, uh a really, really good song that really talks about my life and my my struggle of what I've been through that really give you some storytelling stuff. Dream Chasing. Dream Chasing. Dream Chasing, yep. That song right there was is one that like you will literally it's an older song, but that's one that's that tells you how I grew up. You know, how I how I grew up, how like my struggle and everything, and then another one, you know, my song uh stay up, another one that just like that that tells you how how bad I want this. You know what I'm saying? I've stayed up late, late, late nights writing. Yeah, you know, like when I had to go to bed and go to work in the morning, you know what I'm saying? There's so there's so many things, you know what I'm saying? Like, you know, dream chasing was one of them ones that really like put me on the map, kind of, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

You did that, you dropped that in 2020, December.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, a long time ago, you know. Still resonated to the Oh, it's still still to this day. I get people asking me, like, yo, you should still perform that song. I'm like, well, that song is so old. And they like, yo, listen.

SPEAKER_04

You got a picture of a little kid. Is that you? Yeah, that's you.

SPEAKER_01

That's me when I was a little kid, yeah. Should we play that one? Yeah, yeah. You guys could play that one, yeah. Alright, alright. You're sure? No other ones? Um, there's that one, stay up, bro. There's so many. Like, all right, all right. But this one, this one definitely is one of them ones that that's one of them winners for sure, bro. That's one of them winners.

SPEAKER_04

Alright, let's listen to Dream Chasing.

SPEAKER_02

Coochie. The bringer of life, the bringer of unimaginable joy, the cause of catastrophic destruction. Knowing that you have something so powerful, wouldn't you want the best to take care of it? Pardon me for saying this. I am just a humble announcer. But if I had a coochie, I'd probably get it waxed at Cheyenne's waxing studio on 8:30 Elmwood Ave. You have power in between your legs. So why not have it taken care of by the best?

SPEAKER_00

I was steady grinding tryna get it on my own. I knew I was bad when I was young, but now I'm grown. But mama, please forgive me for the sins that I have done. I promise my fame won't make my head go. Not the mind for you. Always have my best interest. You believe in me. Now I'm pushing me. All your struggles are over. I knew how much you wanted out. Living in the pest infestic government house. You always told me education.

SPEAKER_04

And that was dream chasing. Now, uh Taco, I I really want to know. You've been in Buffalo for quite some time. Wondering, like, how much has the scene like given you love and supported you or not? You know, I mean, do we need to go and like support Taco more?

SPEAKER_01

Well, you know, Buffalo is a little bit, you know, if you if in the beginning, you know, I was like, man, Buffalo don't support me. Buffalo don't support nobody. That's what it'd be like. Buffalo don't support nobody, and this and this and that, you know, but and and honestly, just recently, probably about a year ago, maybe maybe a year and a half ago, I really started seeing like people loving me. And like I was like, oh my god, like, you know what I'm saying? Like, I've got like people loving me and the people singing my song. Like, that's what that's what's the most craziest thing is like when people sing the song to me, like while I'm at on stage or performing, bro. That should make me want to cry. Like, that's how crazy it is. I'm like, yo, y'all know the song, lyric by lyric. Y'all sing along with me. I could shut, I could stop singing, I could shut the mics off, and they could sing the whole song. And like, you know, and that I love Buffalo to death for that. You know what I'm saying? You know, like at first, you know, I was always like, Man, Buffalo and support me, man. Like, this is tough, but you know, like that just like made me want to work harder to to get that love from Buffalo, you know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_04

You gotta earn it, is what you're saying. Like, yeah, about it.

SPEAKER_01

You definitely gotta earn it. And I think I'm I'm slowly earning earning Buffalo love for now. I really am, you know. The people that do support me right now, they super support me. And you know, and that's all you need, bro. You don't need a million people kind of liking your music, you need uh a hundred people loving your music. Yeah, that's how you grow. You know what I'm saying? That's how you grow. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? So I love Buffalo. Buffalo shaped me into the artist I am today for sure.

SPEAKER_04

So last thing, last thing, uh uh folks, um, what what can we expect for the future? Are we seeing more singles? Uh taking out, like, Am I wrong and bringing it into shows and like promoting it? Or like what's going on? What's happening?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so right now I'm I'm trying to really uh promote my uh my new single that I just dropped. Am I wrong? I'm singing at all the shows that I'm going to. I'm doing you know podcasts like this one, amazing podcast. You know, we're coming out, we're just doing what we need to do. Um, just just getting that music out there, you know what I'm saying? And for the future, I got a bunch of singles gonna be dropping. I'm gonna keep dropping singles, I'm gonna keep promoting my music, and I'm just gonna keep dropping this content, you know what I'm saying? Because content is key in this world.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, you gotta drop.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yo, you got some funny stuff too. Appreciate it. So, yeah, like, you know, we've done uh we've done a few collabs. Yeah, yep, yeah, well, we definitely collabed on some stuff, you know what I'm saying? So, like, yeah, bro, like, you know, content's key in this game, bro.

SPEAKER_02

You gotta do it. And you have to how um how do you feel about juggling like the music and the content?

SPEAKER_01

It's hard sometimes, you know, because you know, sometimes you don't always got time for things, you know what I'm saying? I got a family at home, I got a wife at home, I got a kid at home. Oh, you know, thank you. And um, you know, like it it's it's hard to juggle everything. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? But like but as for the content of music, you know, you just have to separate the time for it. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? You know, and I I'm really big on like blocking time. Like I'm like, okay, from 2 p.m. till 4 p.m., I'm gonna knock out five, six videos of content or something. And then just have I'm gonna just put them in the drafts or save them and just post a c acc accordingly, you know what I'm saying? And then from you know, late night, I that's when I usually do most of my work, you know, writing, music, and whatever is you know, late night after the family went to bed, 10 o'clock till 10 to 2. I'm writing, I'm listening to beats, you know, I'm getting in contact with people. I'm trying to, you know, I'm working things out like that. So it's definitely a juggle, but you know, if you if you space it out and just try to have some good like time management, bro, you can do anything. We all make the time that we want for the things that we want to do.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I mean? So absolutely if you're gonna do it, you you gotta make the time for it. So I appreciate you for that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, hell yeah, bro. You know, it it's it ain't easy, man. But you just you you there's some things you just gotta do. Yeah, man. It's a dream. Like that. People say it's crazy. People say people look at me and be like, yo, you really think you're gonna make it a music? I'm like, I don't care if I make it a music. I'm chasing this dream until the wheels fall off. You know what I'm saying? I'm gonna keep going until the wheels fall off. I love this thing, it's a passion of mine. I'm never gonna quit. And if I don't make it, at least I can tell my kids and my and other people, like, yo, I did this, I did this, I did that. You know what I'm saying? Chase that shit. You know what I'm saying? Chase that dream, bro, because you only get one life. I'm not I'm not about to go to go to work and come home every night and on the weekend have beer on the weekend. I'm good on that. I don't want to live that life. I want to go out. I want to go pop out on shows. I want people to love me. I want, I want, you know, I want to uh sing my music. I want people to feel me, you know what I'm saying? So and that's what it's all about, bro. I want to live a crazy life, and that's it. You know what I'm saying?

SPEAKER_02

Hey man, we're just hoping that you get the craziest life. Thank you, bro. Thank you, bro. I appreciate you, man.
