All right, here we go once more. DVC for adults. Now, today is kind of a strange topic. I'm going to answer the same question in two different ways, and they're both correct. Is DVC for the pretentious? Well, I'm going to share a couple of stories with you that's going to make you think, yes, it is. Is DVC for the pretentious? I'm going to share a couple of stories that will make you think absolutely it's not. Let's start with the first, because that's usually the most controversial. And I'm getting ready to slam Grand Floridian people twice. So I'm just going to get you prepared for it. I've been there. It was just okay to me. Not my kind of thing, but there are some people that swear by it, and I'm glad to them. Some people, it's their once-in-a-lifetime special occasion thing. Let me tell you two stories I've heard. Let's start with the milder one first. As you've probably picked up from when I have done these previous episodes, is I use my points a lot for my extended family. This year alone, two of my children who are in their high 30s to 40s now, wanted to take their families down there, and I let them use my points. That's why I bought them. I love being able to do that. I'll give you a story here in a minute on the commerce side as to I gave it to friends one time too and let you know how that went too. But they said that I had given them points to Animal Kingdom Lodge. It just so happened they decided to try to beat a snowstorm from Kentucky. So they went down a day early. And of course, I couldn't find any room for them a day early. So they stayed at Art of Animation and they said they love the place. In fact, I was a little concerned because there's so many kiddie things to do there. I thought maybe the kids might be disappointed when they go to Animal Kingdom Lodge and all they have to do is look at animals. But uh he said he went to Art of Animation and all the families were so happy. They're all wearing their Disney shirts, their Mickey shirts. The kids are jumping up and down, they're excited to be there, they're at Disney World, they're thankful to their parents for bringing them. And then he said they decided to monorail hop. So when they got to Grand Floridian, he said it was like an office atmosphere. You walk in, everybody's in their khakis and their button downs, and they're all walking prim and proper. The dads are telling their kids to straighten up, and you know, it just didn't seem like a Disney World type of thing. The other Grand Floridian story, which is much harsher, is I went by there once in the swimming pool, and apparently there was somebody from another DVC resort that really probably didn't belong in the pool, but they had gotten in there somehow, and they got to talking to somebody who actually was a Grand Floridian DVC owner, and they got kind of fussing at each other, and when the Grand Floridian person realized they were talking to somebody from a different resort, they said, Now, this is why I own a Grand Floridian to get away from people like you. That's a little on the pretentious side. So you could say that there are definitely some people, excuse me, that feel that way. You know, in Disney World's kind of like that anyway. Some people are envious of you just because you can go. Some are envious of you just because instead of having to stay off property, you stay on property. The ones on property are envious when they have to stay at the All-Star Sports and you're in a two-bedroom villa. It kind of embarrasses me sometimes when I talk about vacations, and people will ask me, Well, where'd you stay? And I tell them Animal Kingdom Lodge, and they just say, Oh, I wish I had your money. And I said, Well, believe it or not, we bought there because we figured out a way that it saved us money. So that's what this is all about. You don't buy DVC for pretentious reasons. Now you probably feel good that you're there. It probably makes you feel good to tell others that that's where you own. Maybe you can advise them on buying DVC and how, in effect, it could save them money. And as we mentioned last week, even if they only go once every three years, it could still save them some money. So that's kind of what our topic is today. On the flip side, on the other side, I have a coworker who knew that I own DVC. Now, this is probably 10 years ago. I retired eight years ago, so it have to be more than eight years ago. And the uh they had asked me, they said, Man, Disney World is so expensive. What do you do for your resort? And I said, Well, listen, I've got some DVC points left over this year. I told them where they were. It was actually at Oak Key West at the time that I could get them in Old Key West. That's about the only thing that was available on a short nurse notice. Oak Key West rooms are huge. A lot of people love owning there. And she made me an offer for that vacation, and I said, no, that's too high. I don't want that much money. I'll give it to you for this. And she was so excited, and even more when she came back, she was so thankful because she had no idea that the rooms would be so luxurious. That's to me what DVC is all about. It's about not being able to brag to others that you have it, but that you're able to help out others when they need to. Now, even some of my favorite shows, when I hear them say, you know, we really didn't even look at the money. We just went ahead and bought it emotionally. I'm thinking, um, that's a little bit of a pretentious statement. I once, with this has nothing to do with DVC. I was once on a cruise ship sitting at a table, and I hate it when people say, Oh, I don't drink. Well, the only reason you say that is so because you think it makes you look better in front of those who do drink. That's a pretentious statement. That's the way my mind works. I want you to enter into the DVC. I don't mind if you're proud that you own it, but don't go around bragging that you own it. Be happy that it's there. Use that for your vacations. I'm going down there for a split stay in two weeks. I'm going to be at Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani for two days. Riviera, that will be a first for me for two days. And then I'll finish with one day at Baylak Tower. I'm going to Baylake Tower mainly for two reasons. That's the one next to the Contemporary Resort. I think everybody knows about the Contemporary Resort. I've got a Keys to the Kingdom tour planned that day in the Magic Kingdom, so I'm staying close to it. That's BLT is Baileck Tower, is within walkable distance of Magic Kingdom. And that is the closest of the Monorail resorts to having a nice view of the fireworks in the evening. So that's why I'm there. Not doing it for pretentious reasons. In fact, I probably end up spending more money than I want to because I I bought the the uh tour package, and then I had to buy an admission ticket to get in. And then what the heck? The tour is going to be over at 2:30 or 3. I'll probably go ahead and buy a lightning pass. So there's three main attractions that I want to watch before I get out of there, and that way I can do that without and skip the lines. But that's kind of a weird topic to think that DVC is pretentious. Maybe it is to some people. Life is like that. The car you drive can be like that. I don't want to drive an overly expensive car just to drive around to show it off to other people. Now, if it's a great running car and I love it, my wife just bought a new CRV hybrid sport package, and it's a great car. Man, I love it. We went all the way to Nashville and back from Kentucky, and we had to buy four gallons of gas. So it really works. We didn't want to buy pure electric because we were too nervous whether or not we'd be able to find someplace to charge it. So that's what we did. So three more weeks, I'll be giving you some videos from the resorts. In the meantime, buy your DVC, be happy about it, share your happiness with other people. Maybe occasionally share your points with other people. My problem is now, I thought I had enough points. I've got over 400 points. I'll go ahead and tell you that. Even that with my family, I'm borrowed into the next year. But that's okay. That's why I bought it. I wouldn't have it any other way. And I will see you guys in a couple of weeks from Walt Disney World and the DBC Resorts. And I might even open the video sitting on my balcony with my back to the giraffe so that you can see what's behind me, because that's what I love about Kidani. We'll see you then.
