Live from Silver Bowl Studios in Warnerville. This is Southwest Local News with Shauna Rogers.

SPEAKER_00

Good morning and welcome to Southwest Local News. Victorian opposition leader Jess Wilson spent her Sunday in the southwest of the state.

SPEAKER_03

This is a community that's been neglected by the Labour government. They're feeling ignored. And it was really great to listen to them today to talk about some of the many issues facing this community and how we can help them in the lead up to November's election. Well, our commitment is that we will listen to regional Victorians. We will actually understand the issues that are facing them. I'm so tired of hearing from regional Victorians in particular that they feel unsafe on the roads because of the number of potholes. This is a government that has failed to invest in maintaining our roads. And it's dangerous. It's not only dangerous for locals who are driving on the roads, but it's having an economic impact as well. Freight and logistic companies, the trucks need to be maintained and serviced more often. And that means that that cost flows through to the consumer at the end of the day. So my commitment to them is that we will listen to regional Victorians who will invest in the essential services they need for healthcare, the train system up here, the V-line service and our local roads to make sure they get the services that they deserve. You know, we know that this is a community that is going to be hit by Labor's big new tax on every single property in this state, but particularly our CFA volunteers and our farmers, and we'll scrap that tax because we know that those who risk their lives in the community shouldn't be taxed for doing it.

SPEAKER_02

But I really wanted to make sure we showed the community cheese are across these roads issue. She also understands the real issues around this train. The upgrade that we were promised by Labor, that has been an absolute downgrade. The overcrowding, the disrespect for the elderly who can't even get a seat. Jess has got four priorities and they are fixing the budget so we can invest in things like roads and infrastructure that's tired. Housing, so we don't have people with disabilities that can't even get public housing, like one of our locals that we're also aware of. Also, the crime scene.

Outside of these hours, consumers can no longer swipe and pay and get their own petrol as needed. This will remain in place until further notice, with the store management stating panic buying as the reason it has taken these measures. The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to bite with the Victorian government and its taxpayers, the latest to feel the ongoing pain. The state government has agreed to settle a class action relating to the long-running COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. The settlement is compensation of$125 million. It was estimated if the government was to fight this case, it would have cost$40 million in legal fees. A group of 16,000 Victorian businesses signed up a class action against the government, stating the government hotel quarantine program and the lockdowns that followed caused them significant economic stress. Worksafe have been notified of the incident. Airborne was formed by Warnable Brothers Joel and Ryan O'Keefe in 2001. The band has gone on to gather a huge global following, and as well as charting high in North America and Europe, Airborne has also established a reputation as a powerhouse live performer. Fine weather provided the perfect backdrop to three community events over the weekend. The inaugural Warnable Filipino Fiesta was held on Saturday at the Civic Green. The event was hailed a success with Filipino dancing a major attraction. At Timboon, the tracks festival took place with a good crowd gathering for entertainment in the town's amphitheatre. On Saturday afternoon, the Warnable Community Garden hosted its Harvest event with over 600 people attending. Three new productions are lined up at the Portland's Arts Centre this month. Variety is at the forefront with a family-friendly production of wacky characters, Celtic bands, and Golden Age Broadway numbers. Last night it was Oh, what a beautiful morning show with the Melbourne Celtic Festival on tour on the 19th. On the 25th, it will be The Box Show, a high-energy show featuring the junkyard beats. Prospectors are letting their ambition find the hidden treasures override their civic pride. Warnerville City Council has reported damage to its grass at the Botanic Gardens and Lake Vitobe. This damage has been caused by prospectors digging under the grass to see what is in a hotspot they've discovered. Council has warned prospectors that digging up public parkland is not permitted. The program is being delivered by a member for Wan and Danteen who is encouraging groups to apply. The funding available ranges from$1,000 to$5,000 with expressions of interest open until March the 30th. The grants are aimed at helping organizations upgrade essential equipment, deliver training, and support initiatives that promote and grow volunteering. A handful of locals staged a peaceful protest at the City Memorial Bowls Club on Sunday afternoon, hoping to emphasize the No Offshore Wind project planned off the coast of Warnerville and Port Ferry. The cohort gathered as state opposition leader Jess Wilson arrived at a fundraiser at the local venue. No offshore wind farm zone, Warnable Network convener Michael Neo was seeking the coalition leader to break her silence on a position relating to the offshore wind farm zone between Warner and Port Ferry prior to the Victorian state election. First making news in sport, a brilliant century from former state cricketer Tim Luderman was not enough to lift his team into the Warner Moyne Premier Grade Grand Final. Luderman made 106 on Saturday, helping Nessels to score a 190 against Dennington. But the dogs were up to the task, cruising past the target in less than 50 overs while losing just three wickets. In the other preliminary final, Allenswood Pamua was ruthless in its defeat of Mortlake. The Gators batted first and made 320 before returning on Sunday to bowl Mortlake out for 79 to book their grand final place. Two premierships have already been won in Warner Moyne Senior Men's Cricket. On Saturday, Russell's Creek was crowned Division II champion when it defeated Port Ferry in a thriller. Russell's Creek batted first and made 91, with Port Ferry replying with 84 all out. In Division IV, Warner claimed the silverware when it proved too strong for Dennington. The dogs batted first and were all out for 59. It was a target Warnable was able to easily run down, scoring the winning runs in the 15th over with just four wickets down. Warnable's Nathan Sobey starred for Southeast Melbourne Phoenix in their victory over the Adelaide 36ers in NBL action on Saturday night. Soby shot a career high 41 points as the Phoenix won 101 to 92. Sobe's efforts won him the player of the day title and squared the playoff series at one-all. The teams will now play the deciding game in Adelaide on Tuesday night.

So he was kind of carried us uh offensively in the first half. But again, um we got a lot of we got a lot of guys. We've got several guys that average double figures. So did I have a sense that he was going to have this type of performance? Uh not really. I'm I'm happy he did, but uh, you know, he's he's had performances all year long. That's why he's a first-team uh all-NBL player.
