SPEAKER_02Good morning and welcome to Southwest Local News. Police and Emergency Services are currently on scene at a collision in Jellybrand Loa. It is understood a blue Hyundai hatch collided head-on into a minibus on the Great Ocean Road just before 12 p.m. The male driver of the Hyundai suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and his female occupants suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The male driver of the minibus and his eight passengers also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. All were treated at the scene and then transferred to hospital. Investigations into the crash remain ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident has CCTV or Dash Cam Vision is urged to contact CrimeStoppers on 1-800-333-000. Member for Southwest Coast Roma Brittnall has confirmed she's against the proposed offshore wind farm off the coast of Warnable and Port Ferry and has reiterated that she has always been.
SPEAKER_06No one wants to see a project that is risking our whale sanctuary or our um well in a whale migratory pathway. So there is too much at risk. And my federal colleague announced quite clearly that the federal government, uh, if they had of one, which we didn't, in May, would not support offshore wind. So there's a consistent message. Um I would wonder why there's an attempt to try to undermine something that I don't think I could be clearer on and will remain very, very uh strong on.
SPEAKER_02The driver of a van has died after a head-on collision with a truck in Bannockburn early this morning. Emergency services were called at Bannockburn Shelford Road around 7.40 a.m. on Monday. It is understood the crash forced the van down an embankment and into a tree with the yet-to-be-identified driver dying at the scene. The driver over the truck was uninjured and stopped at the scene. Anyone who witnessed the crash with footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1-800-333-0000. Fire crews from across the Southwest worked to control a complex structure fire at Ridley Stockfeed manufacturing plant in Terrang last night. Kicking off on Friday night, the annual event's traditional welcome concert was a sellout, featuring some huge names, including Damien Leith. The street procession was one of the highlights of Saturday before the Danny Boy Australian Championships at the Karroit Theatre.
SPEAKER_03Like it's really a gorgeous part of the world. That's lovely to hear.
SPEAKER_04Um I actually live here, actually, yeah. See a lot of Irish people here, and amazing to see a lot of people who celebrate Irish culture. I just love it from Irish heritage.
SPEAKER_05Finger crocked.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's uh very nice to see all the Irish. Um, it's very small. Cute.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I'd say it's more Irish than Belfast, of course.
SPEAKER_01I've been involved now for 15 years and I love every minute of it. Can't wait. And my new suit, everyone says it's beautiful. Thank you very much.
SPEAKER_02A new report into homelessness has revealed some alarming figures, with just one outreach worker existing for every 297 person in Victoria sleeping rough. Government-funded programs resourced to support only a thousand people, despite more than 10,600 presenting to services, while already homeless last year. The crisis is sharpest in regional areas where the Wimmer is single outreach worker covers five council areas. And Warnables Brofi delivered program manages an estimated 120 clients with just two staff. 55 local government areas, including Kolak Otway, Glenelg, Moyne, Southern Grampians, and Surf Coast, have no funded assertive outreach whatsoever. The Council to Homeless Persons is urging the state government to expand social housing, secure long-term program funding, and recruit at least 177 additional full-time workers to meet the current demand. Events association with the carnival launched as early as yesterday, while this morning, the annual Breakfast with the Stars was held at the Pavilion. The feature racing event for tomorrow is the Briley Steeplechase before the Margaret Lucas Gallywood Hurdle on Wednesday, and then of course the 2026 Grand Annual Steeplechase and the Warnable Cup on Thursday. It should be another huge three days and will also be track side bringing you all of the off-track action, so keep an eye on your socials and on southwestlocalnews.com.au. Still on the carnival, punters could face some network problems as Telstra performs maintenance on its network in East Warner from Wednesday. The works are expected to take five days at the Telco Southwest TAFE site. It's understood that the Warnable East site will be shut down for OHS purposes, resulting in reducing Telstra coverage from 7am to 5 p.m. between 6th and the 11th of May. For more information, visit Telstra's Facebook page. Finally, Southwest Local News joins hundreds of independently owned newsrooms for a week-long fundraising campaign this week. The fundraising campaign aims to encourage readers and viewers to make voluntary contributions to the service, ensuring it remains a pivotal part of Southwest's local news landscape. Over the past 12 months, Southwest Local News has focused on diversifying its product, offering to help reach more of its audience in more places. To find out how you can join the campaign, visit our website. Among the locals in the opening feature of the carnival is Simon Wilde's Hit the Road Jack and Aaron Purcell's Instigator. In motorsport, Warnables Taylor Ralph has finished the second round of the Women's Superbike World Championship in Hungary. The local star battled tire issues in the opening day of the event and was nursing a niggling ankle injury she sustained in a huge crash during the last round of the series. In the opening race of the weekend, Ralph managed to hold on to fifth spot for a majority of the race before mechanical issues worked against her. In the final race of the round, Ralph set the ninth fastest lap of the field and was in a group fighting for seventh place. In Waterboard and District football and netball, South Rovers continue to prove they are a force to contend with in senior footy, managing to defeat Old Collegiance by 24 points on Saturday. Jack Creese led the goals with two, including a late goal in the contest, which could easily be one of the goals of the season. In the A-grade netball, Old Collegians remains undefeated despite a gallant attempt by South Rovers to bring them undone. Scores were level at halftime on 18 goals each, but the Warriors piled on 16 goals in third to pull away. Maggie Klein led the goals with 34, while Paige Lennihan was named best on court. Finally, still with Netball, Allensford celebrated two milestones on Saturday in its clash with the Timboon Demons.
