SPEAKER_06Live from Silver Bowl Studios in Warnerball. This is Southwest Local News with Shauna Rogers.
SPEAKER_01Good morning and welcome to Southwest Local News. Warnaball Highway Patrol is seeking help to identify a driver involved in a collision with an e-scooter on Saturday, March the 14th. The male e-scooter rider was hit by a vehicle in the car park of City Memorial Bowls Club and sustained a broken arm. The incident was not reported at the time. The vehicle was described as a light blue sedan with a female driver, possibly in her 60s, with grey fuzzy hair. The female driver did not remain at the scene or exchange details with the rider. If anyone witnessed the incident, has dash cam footage or has any other information that could assist to identify the driver, please contact Warnable Police or Crime Stoppers. Southwest Motorists can now apply for a 20% cut on their car registration. The state government has today introduced the discount aimed at cutting down on the road costs for motorists. A motorist with one car could save up to $186 with a two-car family saving up to $372. Motorists will need to apply for the rebate, with those eligible to apply needing to have paid registration between July 1st last year and June 30th this year. The vehicle needs to be used for personal use only and must weigh under 4.5 tonnes. Applications will need to be made by creating a Service Victoria account. Driver caution is being urged for those using roads in the Woodford Bushfield area. CFA crews from Woodford, Winslow, Grassmere, and Warnable and Corroit have been busy this morning cleaning up a milk spill. The milk was spilt on Bridge Road and at intersections on Caramet, Mortlake and Fillmore Roads. Bridge Road was closed for an hour as the cleanup took place. The Hungry Jacks restaurant manager Brady Vickers is on a mission to raise a massive six figures for the Make a Wish Foundation through his fundraising efforts. The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants life-changing wishes to children facing critical illnesses. This year, the Warnable Hungry Jacks team is hoping to raise $30,000, bringing them to $100,000 in four years. In previous years, Mr. Vickers has put himself forward for challenges at each milestone in the amount raised. Tasks included a mini golf challenge, an ice bucket challenge, and getting a tattoo, each task with the purpose of raising more money. Starting in 2023, the store raised $18,524. In 2024, $33,448, and in 2025, $19,221. Mr. Vickers believes that this year is the time to tick off that six-figure milestone.
SPEAKER_03See, crew members happy, like they're excited for it. They're like come in all this week, and they're like, oh, four days to go, three days to go, they're super excited. So it's great to have the whole team get behind it and for a good cause. To hit six figures would be never thought four years ago when I started pushing for this, that that was even a targeted goal. Like the first year, $20,000 was a stretch goal. To be able to hit that would be incredible.
SPEAKER_01The Warnable Christ Church set the scene for the ARIA of Steadford on the weekend. Proceedings began on Saturday the 30th with 12 singers. Six finalists went head-to-head on Sunday. Amelia Warsum was announced the winner of the 2026 Aria, which came with a prize money of $5,000. With Hartley Tusler taking home the encouragement award of receiving $2,500. The Chris Hayes Memorial Trophy was formed to honour the late Chris Hayes, who contributed to the Warnable Aria of Steadford as convener for seven years. This was awarded to Alex Owens, a classically trained baritone singer.
SPEAKER_05And I think that showed through.
SPEAKER_01Constant rain has produced flooding in East Warnable. Water was laying across the road in Wrangle Avenue off Wanstead Street this afternoon. Up to five houses had water lapping at their front lawns, with one house under threat of flooding. The SES undertook sandbagging the house to ensure it remained safe. More rain is predicted for the rest of today and into Tuesday.
SPEAKER_00We are not banning the Australian flag. Rule out and reverse that ban as Minister of the Crown of this Parliament for the people of Victoria that you support the Australian flag and will not ban that while keeping other representative flags and logos on the uniform of your staff.
SPEAKER_01Victorians are urged to not tie up ambulance services during the winter cold and flu season. Ambulance Victoria is asking people with colds and flu to access fast and free medical care and health advice through a range of options available. These include the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department, Nurse on Call, and urgent care clinics. This would free up the paramedics and first responders for the most critical life-threatening emergencies. Ambulance Victoria is calling for people to undertake preventative measures, including keeping up to date with vaccines. Tickets will go on sale this week for what will be a milestone Port Ferry Folk Festival. To be held on the weekend of March the 5th to the 8th, next year will be the year's 50th year. First making news in sport, Allensford continues to be the king of the jungle in Warnable and District League football. The Cats sit unbeaten on the top of the ladder after eight rounds. There was more than four points to be collected at Allensford on Saturday when the home team took on old collegians. While the Cats celebrated wins in senior football and A-grade netball, the day also included a successful collection for the Heart Kids organization. Stacy has been an important player for the Cats this season, having played all eight games. Stacy said the team's hard work was paying off.
SPEAKER_04I don't really know.
SPEAKER_01Did you expect the scroll line for? Oh yeah, not that much.
SPEAKER_04No, not really. Coming into it, we said it was going to be a tough game, but we just worked on everything, and that was good turnovers, tips, everything, so that was great.
