Good morning and welcome to Southwest Local News. Police are making inquiries into the cause of an accident at Worong on Sunday morning. Police and ambulance attended the scene around 7:30 a.m. No emergency, medical care, or patient transport was required from the ambulance as no one was on site. The car had run into a tree with very minor damage to the vehicle. The car was unoccupied, and police are making inquiries with the registered owner. A house has major damage after a blaze on Sunday morning. The fire at the house, which was on High Street Orford, caused the roof to collapse. Fire crews from across the district helped to fight the fire. The owners of the house were out at the time of the fire and no one was injured. Police and power corps attended the scene. Winslow horse trainer Kieran Maher has rubbed shoulders with plenty of high rollers over his time, but he may have topped them all. Maher and his mother Eileen were invited to be a part of the buggy carriage procession down the strait at Royal Ascot. King Charles was also part of the procession. The Maas were then invited into the royal box where they had lunch with the King. Ma trains one of the King's horses, Gilded Water. The verdict is still not in on the latest round of Warnerville City Council's Cheers to Ideas program. Voting for three finalists close earlier this month. The final three ideas were The Gathering, Communication Access, and Southern Coast Song Challenge. The winner will receive up to $2,500 to bring the idea to life. Warner Mayor Ben Blaine said the concept was an exciting one.

Go and have a look at the Warnerville City Council Facebook page. It's on there. It's so important that we have that entrepreneurial spirit, and it can be hard starting out, especially in this environment. There's two and a half thousand dollars up for grabs here because it could be an amazing business that'll revolutionise the world.

The neighbouring towns of Cobden and Timboon have both received state government funding. The funding has come through the Tiny Towns program. Tim Boon has won $50,000 for phase one of its Timboon Precinct Plan. At Cobden, $23,100 has been allocated to rectify the station and platform floor of the town's miniature railway park. Tackling youth vaping will be the subject of an education session in Warnerville later this month. Local sporting coaches and leaders are being invited to participate in the session, which will be held on June the 29th. Later starter shows one in five teenagers have vaped. The session will include information on vaping and recent legislation changes and tools to engage and involve parents and coaches in supporting healthy choices. The hour-long session is free and will be held at the Read Oval. Registration at the Good Sports website is essential. A wet and cold winter night could not stop the party in Warnable on Saturday. The Warnable Winter Solstice event was held at Lake Potobe beginning in the afternoon and continuing into the evening. While the rain came with the dark, it didn't dampen the spirits of the large crowd that attended. Food vans, live music, fire spinning, and illuminated pieces of art meant the event achieved its goal of spreading some colour and life into winter. Over 200 volunteers have taken part in the annual monitoring count of the southeastern red-tailed black cockatoo. Ran by the Glenelg Hopkins CMA, this was the 30th year the count has been held. Close to 4,500 kilometres of habitat was covered with 1,400 birds recorded. The annual count forms a critical component of the long-term monitoring of the species as a minimum population estimate and locates flock for follow-up flock counts. Dynamic Kids Entertainment Duo, the Farmy Farms, will soon be thrilling crowds in the Glenelg Shire. The farmed theme show will include Haybale, Acrobatics, and Giant Juggling Carrots as part of its attraction. The Castidon Hall will be the venue on July the 10th with the Haywood Community Hall the day after. On July the 9th, the duo will be holding a children's circus workshop at the Digby Community Hall. First making news in sport. Port Ferry retains its place in the Hampton Open Netball top three after a winning weekend. The Seagulls hosted Portland on Saturday and recorded a 47-23 win.
