SPEAKER_01

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the ATN, the All Things Imall podcast. Yep. I'm Jaden, along with Hey, Mr. Williams here. Welcome back, everybody, to the 33rd, we believe, episode.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, that is crazy. Unofficially official. I mean, we looked it up online. I'm I hope my record keeping through our podcast hosting site is accurate. And it is the 33rd episode that our wonderful listeners have tuned into. Thank you. 33rd. Thank you for listening. Yes, thank you for listening once again. And as we've uh noted here over the last couple of episodes, um, you know, 33 and not too many more of these. No. Right? No, not too many more of these. So savoring savoring every second behind the mic and um just continuing to enjoy our crusade to bring you the world that was, the world that is, and the world that is the will be for all things Nimaha.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It's been a good time. 33. 33. 33. I know a lot. Yeah, it is a lot. It is a lot. It's been great. And we've got a lot to get into. Yes, we do. Because we've had a lot take place over the past week here. We've got oodles and gobs on the horizon. So, Jay, without further ado, let's eat it up. Let's jump back to last Thursday, April 16th. JV Baseball, we were able to finally make up some contests against the Silver Lake Eagles. We brought the boys from down south up here to the land of the north. Our boys fought hard, but ultimately fell by a score of 11 to 6 and 17 to 5 to Silver Lake. And we've got a bit of a thinner roster when we get down to that JV realm. Um, but still nice to see some runs put up by our young gentleman last Thursday here at Swisher Field. We also had a lot of middle school track action going on, and we've kind of, you know, alluded to this a little bit over the last couple of episodes. We didn't really have some of the stats in front of us, but Jay, we've got pages of pages of stats today, don't we? Oh, we got the stats. We got pages of stats. So we'll jump right in here and we'll review for you the Neville Hall Central Middle School efforts over at Marysville. The NCMS students traveled over to Homer Hansen Stadium and competed in the Marysville Middle School Invitational. Uh, it's a big meet with some big competition. I remember that in middle school, yes. Yes, lots of great competition there. Um overall, the seventh grade boys placed fifth, the seventh grade girls fourth, eighth grade boys third, and the eighth grade girls fourth, which is pretty stellar because I believe there's nine teams there. And we are probably the smallest team of all. Okay. Okay. Uh it's commonly forgotten that our middle schools are split. We're not a 3A middle school, right? Uh, and competing against uh four A's and above, three A's and four A's and above at that Marysville meet. So uh overall finishes for our teams are really solid. On an individual note, shout out to the following. Emerson Novotney plays first in the seventh grade girls 800 meter with a time of 250 and also first in the girls long jump with a jump of 13 feet six and a half inches. Way to go, Emerson. Graham Leaguer took first in the seventh grade boys' high jump. Yeah, yeah. Uh leapt a height of four feet ten inches. Four ten, all right. Yeah, a little 410 there. Uh Will Martin, uh Days of Running, yeah, from back in the fall. Uh Will was able to claim a triple jump championship with a measurement of 37 feet three inches, and that would log him top four in several of our high school meets that we've uh uh observed andor been to thus far. Will did a really good job as well in his running events, but just got beaten out by a really stellar runner from north of the border, up in Beatrice. Oh wow. Yes. Be interested to see if we don't see those two locking horns in some form or fashion uh down the road. Lillian Dieter, shout out to her. Victorious in the eighth-grade girl shot put with a toss of 41 feet one inch. Tatum Snyder took first in the discus with a throw of 83 feet even. And that rounds it out for the NCMS students. Pete and Paul traveled over to Donathan West for the Mustang track and field classic. Uh overall, the seventh grade boys placed fourth. Eighth grade, sorry, seventh grade girls placed fourth, eighth grade boys seventh, and then the seventh grade boys and eighth grade girls both claimed meet championships. There you go. Well done there, Pete and Paul. And on the individual performance side of things, what do we got, Jay?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Ella Barkowski in the eighth grade girls 100 meter dash, winning with a time of 1406. That's lighting fast. That's sad.

SPEAKER_00

Also leave me in the dust. Yeah, leave me in the dust.

SPEAKER_01

She won in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29-21. So congrats, Ella, there. And then Violet Rugi uh took first in the eighth grade girls 800 meter run with a time of three minutes and three seconds. And then on the boys' side, the seventh grade boys four by one team of Camden, co-hockey, Simon Strothman, Wiley Bergman, and Eli Leaguer placed first with a time of 5287. Nice job.

SPEAKER_00

Nice job. And several other second, third, and fourth place finishes in both those meets for our Middle School Thunder and our Middle School Trojans. Um, but just uh for sake of time in our podcast, we're just gonna knock out the champions, the individual champions. So tip of the cap there, and more track results to come as we get into this past week. Yeah. Okay. Um, hey, uh, let's see. What also took place last Thursday? A departure for senior trips. Senior trip 2026. Jay, how was it? Tell us about some of the highlights and/or lowlights. Or if we want to leave the lowlights off, that's absolutely fine as well.

SPEAKER_01

I think we leave the lowlights off. Uh, but the highlight, man, starting right out of the gate, like right off the bus. We got right off the bus and straight into paintball. Boom. We got it going, dude. And man, let me tell you, you know, so those paintballs were coming in pretty fast. You know, bruise your boy. Coming in hot. They were coming in hot. Um, but it was a great time. Had a lot of fun doing that. And then also just the man, a lot of roller coasters, a lot of a lot of rides. Uh, talk about with the mountain coasters uh down there in Branson as well as um Silver Dollar City, which is always a good time there. Um, but man, the VRBO. I think this was the main highlight of the trip. The VRBO shenanigans, and also just the house itself. Holy cow, was that nice? I don't know about you, but I kind of like the breakfast situation, the the house. I mean, you could see the lake.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It was it was great.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no uh no direct water access, which is probably a blessing in disguise. Probably so. Uh don't know if we needed to be uh yeah uh supervising. Yeah, we had some hotbots. We had some hot tubs. Uh yes, but three levels to the VRBOs, tip of the cap there to Mr. Tackenhorse and Mr. Thomas for again pivoting and finding some uh alternative lodging on a on a short notice. Uh ultimately saved money as well. Um, because you know you're gonna have to still get some snacks and some drinks, even if you're staying in a hotel and they offer breakfast each morning. Um you're gonna have to provide it now in the VRBO, but you're still spending hundreds of dollars on snacks, drinks, etc. So yeah, I think uh ultimately uh saved a little bit of money and yeah, guys in one, girls in the other, uh a little socializing prior to that 10 p.m. curfew and then the 12 a.m. lights out, which was uh uh I don't know if that was a whole way followed, but it's uh you know soft deadline. But uh yeah, Mr. Williams, hey, I I lived it up, man. I had that uh I had that king room to myself up top, and yeah, there was a bunk of 12 of you down the hall. Yeah. Uh so you know, uh, it kept me up a little bit, but hey, uh had my own space. It was a good time. It was a good time. Um followed the bus around in and out of town. Uh you know, is it had to take me? Had to run you to get you some dry clothes and some middle schoolers from Tulsa decided to completely douse you at the bump of bus. Oh my god. Um but uh that's a low light though. We won't get it. That was a low light. A low light for for me as a as a chaperone was probably just all the driving, you know. So driving down and back, not bad. But uh the lodging, again, there's no straight shot anywhere down down in the uh hills of southwest Missouri. All right, anytime you're around a Lake of the Ozarks or Table Rock Lake, you know, there's no there's no straight line. So uh a boat would actually get you everywhere faster. Probably so. Um but yeah, uh following the bus in and out uh a few times a day. I was probably driving a couple hours each day, which which is again fine. I mean, if that's the low light, whoa, the trip was pretty awesome. Yeah, and I would say uh side with uh that sentiment that it was uh a really solid trip. Uh you students were relatively well behaved. Yeah, I think feels so yeah, from my understanding.

SPEAKER_01

I f I felt like everybody was chill with each other. Um, you know, this was our last hurrah, if you will, um, together. So that was again a good time and um gotta gotta have a lot of good memories. Zip lining too, another highlight.

SPEAKER_00

Little zip lining action. A little zip lining and snowflex is fun. Snowflex is always a good time. Um the illusionist, I thought was entertaining. That was interesting. You were a little you were a little cautious about that.

SPEAKER_01

Uh yeah, I was, you know, it's not my scene. It could be a low light. I don't know if we'll discuss it in too much detail, but yeah, let's just say it's not my scene. You know, they did a go they did a good job, right? That's their job. Yeah. Um, but there were some definite moments of of cringe and okay. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But I find that fascinating. You being a man, uh, you know, uh kind of kind of suited for the entertainment industry, if you will. Yeah. And uh yeah, just that not not rubbing you the right way. No, I didn't. That really intrigues me. Not at all. No. So it was uh yeah, it was entertaining. Um they were one short. I think one of their one of their illusions was on tour out on the road. Uh but but yeah, a newer show down in Branson. Um I uh again, uh respect the grind, right? Yeah, like there's a certain degree of practice effort and for sure. And uh, I know I was sitting next to uh the esteemed Jordan Havercamp, and we were trying to go above and beyond anytime it was, you know, time for applause or hoops on me. Like we were we were really trying to sell it just because you've been in that position as an entertainer. It could be difficult, like you're trying to feed off the crowd energy, and if the crowd's not energized, then it's it could be tough. It's hard. Right?

SPEAKER_01

It could be I was definitely, you know, I was doing the same thing. I was trying to, you know, hit the crowd hype, but my goodness, one, I mean, there weren't I don't know what was going on behind me, but it didn't seem like much was going on.

SPEAKER_00

You know who didn't have to fake it? You know who was genuinely enthralled? Our boy Eeron.

SPEAKER_01

Eeron. He's square. Aaron was dialed in.

SPEAKER_00

He did love it. We we stuck around and met the illusionist afterwards, had a little hello exchange for for my generation. Um one of the uh one of the actual audio clips for one of the tricks was uh the theme song to Hay Arnold, a legendary Nickelodeon animated cartoon. Uh so that kind of you know caught my attention. So I kind of gave him a shout out there as I was with Aaron as we were waiting to meet and greet uh at the post show. Yeah. Uh the post show for the illusionists.

SPEAKER_01

So um he was in a trick, he was in a trick too. Yes. Well he wrote his name down. Well, allegedly wrote his name down.

SPEAKER_00

He was in on it. He was in on the con. Yeah, he was in on the con. In on the smoke and mirror routine. Yep. Um, but yeah, some wildly entertaining stuff. Uh a little fire swallowing, a little fire spitting.

SPEAKER_01

That was cool. See, there's some things that's in the uh the doves or whatnot. That's always that's always got me.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, hiding the birds. It had to be in his boots. Something. I mean, it had to be in his boots. He had him some romper stompers on. He did. These boots had some special secret compartments for sure.

SPEAKER_01

That or his sleeves, I'm not for sure, but yeah. Yeah, it was tough stuff.

SPEAKER_00

Very uh very entertaining. Again, uh loads of entertainment though. Uh the escape room was a good time. Yeah, yep. Uh it's always fun to see how all of you react at the escape room because it's usually like at the two-thirds mark of the trip, so everybody's exhausted and kind of needs a break from each other. Yeah, yeah. Why don't we get you in a 12 by 12 room and figure out how to get out of here?

SPEAKER_01

Right. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, we're gonna put 20 of you in this room. Oh boy.

SPEAKER_01

We let's just say our group used like fifty. I think we used up to 15 hints. I mean, we were we were kind of getting stuck. Tapping out, especially towards the end, too, because yeah, exactly what you just said, you know, we're getting kind of getting tired of each other, right? We want to get out. Um, and so but we got out. We got out, and that's all that matters.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I'm not tired of? What? Continuing to navigate through the world of all things Nimahal and a little bit more of the will be. Saturday, we had that right. Saturday, we had some forensics action down at Tonganoxie, the Thunder Forensic Squad, a younger skeleton squad visited Tonganoxy High School, placed fifth overall. Uh, and preparations for the state meet next weekend ongoing. Yeah. Getting ready for that? Yeah, final rodeo there, baby. For real. I saw the entries have been submitted. Um, loaded roster. Yep. Excited to see how everybody does down in Mays High School next week. And more on that to come as we get into next week's podcast. I'll be the 34th, correct? Yeah, yeah. 34. More coming at you on that in episode 34. Uh, get into Monday, returned home safely from senior trip. Um little bit of a jaunt to y'all.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, shout out to our bus driver, too, uh Jeff. He did a great job.

SPEAKER_00

I believe if I if I heard Jeff correctly, he was having a conversation with Olivia over lunch one day. Um, I believe his son was one of the guitar players that was absolutely shredding in the Rock Creek pep band down at the state tournament this past year. Wow. So if I'm not mistaken, I think, yeah, shout out to Jeff. Shout out to Jeff who's the father of that absolute on the guitar. Jeff's son. If you're listening, yeah, yeah, some absolute face melting riffs right there. Just shredding that guitar in the pep band setting there at Rock Creek at state basketball this past year. But we get back Sunday night, catch your breath, boom, full slate of activities this past Monday. Varsity Boys Golf traveled down the Cypress Ridge into Pika competed in the Big East Pre-League meet. So that's all 11 schools getting after each other. And guess what our gentleman did? Oh, come on now. What'd they do? Oh. That was an accident, but it fit. It worked.

SPEAKER_01

It did because we're still on the interverse seats.

SPEAKER_00

They got themselves the duck. Woo!

SPEAKER_01

Hey, there we go. Round of applause.

SPEAKER_00

Round of applause. A little late on that audience. A little late on that.

SPEAKER_01

That was kind of like us though in the uh illusionist show. Maybe sometimes.

SPEAKER_00

We didn't know whether we had to point out as he kind of waved the hands, like, let's go! Yep, they did. Yes, the uh Nimahal Central Varsity Golf team took first at the Big East League pre-meet down at Cypress Ridge. Um, really solid stuff. Really solid stuff. The boys are currently ranked sixth overall in class three A, so we've had some really strong performances by the varsity. Uh, shout out to Brady Cook, who plays second, Leighton Thomas, who claimed sixth, and then Colton Corby at seventh. So three individuals in the top ten. You score your top four. Um and we won it. We won the meet. Really solid stuff because there are some fellow 3A schools in our league and our region that we have not defeated here for the last few years. So really promising performance there by the varsity boys golf team. Softball and baseball traveled down to Perry LeCompton, Jay, and it was split for all three levels. How did our teams fare Monday at Perry?

SPEAKER_01

Yep, baseball starting off with that, uh, four three loss, but then like you said, the next game, a 12-2 win. Uh kind of crazy 4-3 and then 12-2. Interesting. Uh, but then varsity softball, a three-two win, uh similar, and then an 11-1 loss to round out the night, and then JV Softball, um, a six-five loss, and then a twelve to five win in that second game. So good job. Softball and baseball.

SPEAKER_00

Tuesday. Tuesday, that was yesterday, six events took place. Six events took place here for Neema Hall Central High School across Northeast and North Central Kansas. Um, with six events taking place. Mr. Williams did not supervise any of them. Instead, he went to middle school track down at Holton, watched Rowan do a little triple jump, little disc throwing, and a little mile run, a little six hundred meter run. Six events. There we go. So we had track in two locations. We had the varsity squad travel out to Belleville for the annual Lions Club invitational. The boys took fifth overall in the upper division, the girls placed fourth. I love that meet. Um, and you see some teams that you're not going to see again until this year regionals, since we are heading out to Beloit for regionals. Yep. Uh so got to see some competition that uh we will again um lock horns with on the horizon. Individual highlights from the meet in Belleville included Connor Leaker placing first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52-51. Mason Schultehans took first in the triple jump with a leap of 41-9, still holding off Will Martin. It'll be fun to see those two go after it next year. And Cora Langel, first place, freshman Cora, first place in the 3,200 meter run, way too many meters. But good job for her. She took first with a time of 1231.

SPEAKER_01

She was also she was also in a ton of different events, running events, long distance event, too. I think two miles. Four by eight, and the four by four. You know how much miles she ran that day? We'll do the math. We'll do the math, right? Three and three-quarters. It's about, yeah, three and three quarters is what she said. Yeah. Not bad. Not bad. It was a good day for good job, Cora. What a grind.

SPEAKER_00

The JV Tracksters competed over at Hiawatha with the boys finishing fifth overall and the girls placing third. Logan Richards, tip of the cat with him, a first place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 38, 3.5. And Jade Mackey took first in the javelin with a throw of 120 feet and six inches. Nice. JV Baseball had some action here at home against the Perry LeCompt and JV. The boys made quick work of the visiting cause, winning 15-0 and 16-1. Bye-bye. So they got back in the win column after uh two losses last Thursday against Silver Lake. Boom! Jumping back in that dub column with some big wins over the JV Cause. And in the world of Thunder Golf, it was a busy day for our golfers.

SPEAKER_01

Jay, how did they do? So they hosted uh the annual Nimahaw Central Boys Golf Invitation. Big ol' me. Big old me.

SPEAKER_00

Big shout out to Brock, Coach Hilgen, and the rest of our volunteers that helped to organize and facilitate that bad boy. It runs itself. It does. Which is awesome. Uh but boy, about 20 teams.

SPEAKER_01

20 teams came and competed, and how did we do?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Placed third as a team. Let's go. In a highly competitive.

SPEAKER_00

Let's go. And we actually tied for second. Sabetha won the tiebreakers against us. Okay. So yeah.

SPEAKER_01

What was it like a coin flip or something?

SPEAKER_00

No, I think they ultimately maybe go to the fifth score. Okay. Um, and then the sixth score, and then I think it goes to like a hole-to-hole thing in terms of handicap with the first place. Uh it details. Details. Save them for later. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Congrats though, boys golf. Varsity golf. Good good job. Uh again, another strong showing uh with top ten finishes from Leighton Thomas, who placed fourth, and Colton Corby, who placed eighth. Um, congrats to meet champ uh Wamigo and runner off Seba like.

SPEAKER_00

If you're hanging with Wamigo, you got some good things going on in the world of boys' golf. Okay. Sabetha as well. One of the one of the better seven or eight uh golf squads in the state of Kansas in class 3A. Uh the J V, they traveled down the village greens. They competed in the J V version, the JV edition of the Big East Pre-League meet. They placed fourth overall. They are paced by freshman Jacoby Bergman. That boy. Who took ninth. Nice job, Jacoby. More middle school track action. Oh, yeah. And we've got pages of it. Ready to go? Our middle school trackers did very well yesterday. Uh Saints Peter and Paul competed down at Frankfurt. They were able to claim meet titles for the seventh grade boys and eighth grade girls, a runner-up finish for the seventh grade girls, and a seventh place finish for the eighth grade boys. Individual champs. Yep. We've got the following. Okay? You might uh listeners, you might go ahead and grab yourself a drink. Yeah. Get comfortable. Yeah, crazy. Settle in here. It's gonna be it's gonna be a minute here. All right. Hey, shout out to the following here. Jonah Bergman, eighth grade boys triple jump champ at 36-4.5. Ella Bartoski, she claimed the 200-meter dash championship for the girls in the eighth grade division, 28-66. The eighth grade girls four by one hundred meter team of Kenley Kramer, Morgan Haverkamp. Olivia Bergman and Ella Bartoski took first with a 55-43. Kenley Kramer won the eighth grade girls long jump with a 14 foot eight-inch leap. Olivia Bergman took first in the eighth grade girls triple jump with a 33-8. Eli Lieger, first in the boys' high meter dash again, blowing me out of the water. 13-30. Candon Kowaki took first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28-10. That's the seventh grade boys division. And in the 400-meter dash with a minute, two second 98 time. Simone Strothman, my boy Simon here. Seventh grade boys high jump champ with 5'4. Jump of 5 feet, 4 inches. Pretty solid there. And he also claimed a triple jump championship with a leap of 35 feet and a half inch. Grayson free, shout out to Grayson, the boys shot put champ in seventh grade with a throw? A shot? A put? What do we say? I think a throw. A toss? A throw? Toss? You're not really throwing it, you know. You are shot putting it. You're putting it. Yeah, you're putting it. He put it. He shot it. Uh yeah. Shout out to Grayson. They measured 33 feet two inches for his shot put attempt. Great stuff there, Grayson. Ivy Hynan for the seventh grade girls won the 1600 meter with a time of 6'19. Harley Schmitz in the seventh grade girls won high jump with a jump of four feet eight inches. Cameron Carlson in the seventh grade girls division one triple jump with a leap of 30 feet three inches. And the seventh grade boys, four by one hundred meter relay team of Camden Kowaki, Simon Strothman, Wiley Bergman, and Eli Leaguer log a time of 52-34. And again, that was good enough to claim for us. Well done, seventh graders. The eighth grade squads came in very close second places to very talented and very deep Holton squads. Give us a rundown of the individual chance, Jay.

SPEAKER_01

I'll attempt this one here. Yeah, again, buckle in. Buckle in, boys and girls. And the seventh grade division, uh, Holly Heidemann um winner for the 3,200 meter run and with a time of 1624 and the 800-meter run with a time of three minutes and 10 seconds. Graham Leaguer, uh 100 meter hurdle winner uh with a time of 19.32, and then a high jump with a leap of 410. And then Dayton Hernandez, the winner for the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.56, and the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.52, and then the long jump also claimed the dub there with a jump of 14. Three gold, baby. Three gold. Nice job, Dayton. That's a great day for Dayton. Uh Sawyer Lutz, uh 200 meter hurdles champion with the time of 34, 35, excuse me, 0.24 seconds. Landry Hildrin um also claiming the dub in 200 meter hurdle hurdles with the time of 33.94. And Emerson Novotney, the long jump champion, uh, with a jump of 1311. Remy Bergman uh also got the dub in shot put with a put with a put of uh 27 uh and four inches there. And then Keegan Richardson, the discus champion with a throw of 89 7 inches there. And then Quentin Kling, the javelin winner. Let's go. Shout out Javelin with a throw of 83. Nice Q.

SPEAKER_00

Do you need a break? Are you ready to rip through the eighth grade? I'm ready to go for the eighth grade here.

SPEAKER_01

Let's hear how the eighth grade did. Yep, going straight into it. Aubrey Wood, the winner for the 1600 meter run with a time of 6 uh 50. Will Martin again, uh the mile champion with a time.

SPEAKER_00

About time Will wins the running event again. There you go.

SPEAKER_01

With a uh time of four minutes and 44 seconds, and then triple jump, uh, also a jump of 37, 11 and three quarters. Three quarters. Three quarters and about set a quarter. I don't know why. Uh Emmy Monier, also the uh champion in uh the eight hundred meter run with a time of two minutes fifty-five seconds, and then also shout out to Abbott Sullivan, also competing in the 800 meter run with a time of two minutes and thirty seconds.

SPEAKER_00

I know Abbott's battling through some some leg ailments. Yeah, a little ailing uh nagging injury right there. So all the stuff there on the 800.

SPEAKER_01

And then Dustin Knowles, uh the long jump champion with a jump of 16 uh 9 and a quarter. There you go. 9 and a quarter. And then uh Logan Honeyman uh with a jump of 15-2, good enough to win, and also a triple jump of 32-3, and then Lillian Dieters, shot put champion with a throw of 37-10, and then discus 91-10. Um, and then finally, Grady Schmelsley with a javelin throw of 114-1. Here we go.

SPEAKER_00

Launched it. Launched it, Grady. That's pretty good.

SPEAKER_01

You're a javelin guy. I'm a javelin guy. That's shocking. 114. I think my record notice, baby. I think my record was uh 115. I'm I'm sure that's been passed. Um but one fourteen, great job, Grady Schmesley there.

SPEAKER_00

We had some relay teams as well. The seventh grade girl throwers relay, along with the seventh boys, seventh girls, and eighth girls four by four hundred meter relay teams. They all took first place. So solid day in the world of middle school track for our SPPS students and our NCMS students. We like it.

SPEAKER_01

We like a good long list, that's for sure.

SPEAKER_00

That means good things are happening there. Good things are happening there, and that's going to do it for the world of the was here on the All Things Demaha podcast. So we'll take a quick break, maybe longer than just a quick break. Get something to drink, get it. Some vocal exercises. Yeah, uh, rest the eyes for a second. Yeah. But stick with us, ladies and gentlemen. When we get back, we'll take you through what's on the horizon here in the world of all things Nimahawk. You're listening to the ATN.

SPEAKER_00

33rd edition of the ATN.

SPEAKER_01

We're back after a very long, extensive break. Uh, got some water.

SPEAKER_00

We're entering our mid-30s. We're established today.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we we are established. We're established. We're an adult, that's for sure. No questions. There's no questions about that. But uh the is hey, Wednesday. It's pretty chilled day. I don't I don't think we have any activities going on today.

SPEAKER_00

No K Club meeting? Okay. That's about it. It's taking place in seminar as we speak. Yeah. Um, otherwise, no FSA. Welcome to a normal standard day of school. Thank goodness, right? Thank goodness. A little bit of exhale. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Because there's more stuff on the horizon. There's tons of stuff on the hill. If you thought, if you thought we got done digesting, you know, what had happened, right? Let's get ready to see what's on what's on the docket. Yeah. Right. What's on the plate, what's on the buffet for the world of all things Dima Hall and all the activities and the following dates and what's going to come, right? Yeah. Doesn't slow down, baby. No, no. So are we ready to jump into that? Let's do it. So Thursday. A little bit of chill Wednesday, as we noted, but as we get into the world of the will be for all things Dima Hall, we've got this happening tomorrow, Thursday, April 23rd. Varsity Baseball along with varsity and JV Softball. We're going to welcome in the Wildcats of Holton here to Seneca for some action on the diamond. 4 30 p.m. start times for varsity baseball at Swisher, varsity softball at Seneca West, and JV Softball down at Pearson. Of course, all of this pending appropriate weather. Weather. Right. Yes. Potentially some inclement weather on the horizon early tomorrow throughout the day tomorrow. So keep tabs on our social media accounts and your email. All right, just to see if there are any notifications and adjustments to locations, game times, dates, etc. Yeah. Expecting to get it in, but you never know. So everybody just uh forewarned. I mean, it's sunny right now. Sunny right now. It's beautiful right now. Beautiful, yeah. Beautiful day to play right now, but we're taking it easy today, aren't we? Yeah, we are. We're taking it easy today. So we got a little baseball and stop all on the horizon for tomorrow. Holton coming into Seneca. We are also supposed to have some track action at the middle school level for our Thunder Tracksters. They were supposed to go to Wamigo for a 12 p.m. start time. Because of the forecast, though, down south, a little bit stronger chances. Okay. They have relocated that meet to next Tuesday, the 28th. So our NCMS tracksters no longer go into Wamigo tomorrow. That has been postponed to next Tuesday, the 28th at 12 p.m. This Sunday. Sunday. The FCCLA is going to take their annual dinner theater trip down to Kansas City. Love this trip. It's one reason to do one reason to do FCCLA. It is. Taking a dinner theater. It'd be kind of like a nice little follow-up to Branson, right? We kind of had dinner and a show and all that good stuff, right? So shout out to the FCC LA members that are making that trip and a big shout-out. Huge shout out. To our juniors, McKenzie Roddinghouse and Haleywood. They earned a gold medal for their star event at the state FCC LA convention in Wichita, April 12th through 14th. Well done, gals. Let me tell you that those star events, those are no joke. That's an undertaking.

SPEAKER_01

Those almost like a little senior project. I was just getting ready to say. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You beat me to it here. Yeah. Star events are very similar to what we have the seniors complete with the senior project experience. But shout out to those two juniors for claiming gold at the state FCCLA convention in Wichita a couple of weeks ago now. Almost a couple of weeks ago. They hosted a family dance night here at NCHS earlier this past semester. So well done there, Haley. Well done, McKenzie. Love a good family dance. I unfortunately had different obligations. Ironically, other family obligations. We had some family visiting, so I was able to attend family dance night. But I I would have looked forward to that. So uh great job there. And um that's exactly what we're looking to do with the FCCLA, right? Provide some career and community learning opportunities. Yeah. Okay. Um and just uh um that gold medal for those gals just epitomizes the goal and um the overall purpose and pursuit of the FCCLA.

SPEAKER_01

And they also have some experience for next year, too, with the senior project stuff. No big deal to this, you know.

SPEAKER_00

So uh to get you to sell this senior project to the juniors next year, right? Ain't that bad, is it? Uh I don't know about that.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Monday. Monday, Monday, Monday. We got some middle school track action. And where's it taking place, Jaden? Here. Here in Seneca. Yes, at Thunder Stadium and track. We're gonna have the NCMS and SPPS tracksters. So all of our seventh grade boys and girls and eighth grade boys and girls will be here in Seneca competing in the annual Neema Hall Central Middle School Invitational. Events are slated to start at 2:30 p.m. Get out there.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, cheer on them tracksters. A special somebody might be in the concession stands giving you some hot dogs, popcorn, whatever you need. Someone might be there. Not someone's me. So uh yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Do an autograph session as well?

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Something to consider. Uh something, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I would go live with the pod. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Go live with the pod. Concession stand version. Live at the track. The wind would be brutal. Yeah. Recording outside and this season would be nasty. Like I I've scheduled, we have the huddle cameras now up at Swisher and at Seneca West. Uh so you can watch if if SCTV isn't uh voluntarily streaming those games for us, which you do a great job of, and uh typically try to do one a week, either baseball or softball. So again, shout out to our SCTV crew. Uh but we have those huddle cameras now, uh static feeds for the Swisher Fields and Seneca Westfields. Um you can you can record volume on that, but it's just the wind. Oh, yeah. So you pull that up, and if I've got the volume toggled to being recorded, it's just that for like five straight hours.

SPEAKER_01

If anyone that's gonna put me to sleep, but yeah, it could be that brown noise, right?

SPEAKER_00

That white noise at bedtime. Bedtime.

SPEAKER_01

That's that's my noise, brown noise.

SPEAKER_00

So we got some middle school track action on Monday. We've also got some high school activities going on. Jaden, tell us about them.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so a handful of our JV golfers will travel to Western Hills for 1 p.m. tea time at the Rossville JV Invitational, um, while another handful will compete here in Seneca at the uh Centralia Invitational, hosted at Spring Creek Golf Course. Um so good luck, boys, and go thunder on JV Golf. Uh varsity baseball and varsity softball, as well as JV Softball, all making the trip south to St. Mary's, and we'll take on the Bears um at Riverside Park for all contests, all contests uh starting at 4 30 p.m.

SPEAKER_00

Find Riverside Park and you'll find all three levels getting after it. They got a nice facility. It's Monday.

SPEAKER_01

That's all right, that's all right.

SPEAKER_00

It's not Perry's facility. I was about to say the first thing I heard from some of the players and our coaches when they got back from Perry when I was chatting with him yesterday, like, wow, Perry stuff is awesome. Like, I know. Yeah, it is great, isn't it?

SPEAKER_01

We were hyped it up last episode.

SPEAKER_00

Pretty solid. Hey, Tuesday, as noted, uh NCMS track will be traveling down to Wamigo for a 12 p.m. start time. That has been um rescheduled from tomorrow, Thursday to next Tuesday, the 28th. Uh, Thunder Varsity Golf gets back after it next Tuesday. They're gonna travel back down to Cypress Ridge. That's where they were this past Monday for the Big East Pre-League meet. Uh, this time it's gonna be for the St. Mary's Invitational. It's a 9 a.m. T time. Good luck to our varsity golfers next Tuesday down at Cypress Ridge. Thunder Tracksters, you're gonna make a short trip east, Jay, uh, to compete in some quadrangular. Quadrangular at quad. We'll just go short. Well, quad. That's what we're gonna do. Quad action. Four schools, Sebetta, Nemohall Central, Hulton, and Perry LeCompton. Okay. Should be a really solid quad there in Sebatha. Field events are gonna start at 3:30 p.m. Good luck. Thank you. Throw that javelin well, sir. We'll do. And then we got some JV baseball. Going to be back here at home at Swisherfield taking on the St. Mary's JV squad. That doubleheader is slated for a 4:30 p.m. start time. No school next Wednesday, the 29th.

SPEAKER_01

And for the middle school and elementary school.

SPEAKER_00

Across the board here at USD 115. I'm pretty sure Pete and Paul kids are still going to school. Sorry, boys and girls. But I do know that pre-K through 12 here, I didn't see EMS and HS are out of school. Except you seniors, you're actually going to be lurking. You're going to be coming in because what is happening next Wednesday, Jaden? One of those final items to check off the list. Yep. Senior showcase. Senior showcase. What are we showcasing?

SPEAKER_01

Showing off our stuff, showing off our um projects that we've uh been doing for the past months. Months. Months. Months.

SPEAKER_00

It is senior project presentation Wednesday at NCHS. That is the 29th, a week from today. You don't have any trouble talking. So I'm not too worried about you. But you got you got that outline, you got that script ready to go, you got that presentation.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I uh the visual aid was, you know, the hardest part for me. Uh the talking, you know, is gonna be what it is, and uh we'll uh we'll we'll give we'll give them a show. Give them a show.

SPEAKER_00

Give them a show on that senior showcase Wednesday. Um a uh little uh uh pre-shout out and pre-thank you to all of our community judges that take time out of their professional and personal schedules to come in and serve as judges for each presentation. Uh we'll have ten rooms, five judges in each room, uh a couple of staff members from USD 115 um serving in each room, and then it's community judges after that. Uh bring in some juniors to help keep time to kind of keep you guys on pace there for uh your presentations. Um five presentations per room. Uh looking forward to it. Yeah, it's a great day. Uh and really, I know all of you seniors get a little antsy and get a little stressed out, but it's typically just a celebration of um not just your class, but also you know what you've done, what you've accomplished, what you've accomplished with senior project through the course of this school year. So really looking forward to that. And then later on next Wednesday evening, we do have the annual K Club installation taking place. That's gonna be at 6 30 p.m. here at NCHS. Say Syonora and thank you to those graduating senior officers and say welcome aboard to next year's K Club Officers. So nice little formal ceremony taking place next Wednesday evening at NCHS, our K Club installation. And Jay, that does it for the will be. That is it. That's it. That is it. As we got towards May, man, you know, uh episode 34. When we get into the will be, we're talking Friday, May 1st. Wow, Saturday, May 2nd. Yeah, and I think the last date for you seniors is Monday the 11th. Yeah. Oh my gosh, we're literally like two and a half weeks left.

SPEAKER_01

That is crazy. Oh dang. Ooh. Well, that just uh put it in perspective. I just put it in.

SPEAKER_00

Speaking of perspective, we got anything on the horizon yet with uh future plans.

SPEAKER_01

Ooh. We're gonna get into that?

SPEAKER_00

Why not? We got a little time to kill here. I guess you could be this week's interview subject.

SPEAKER_01

That's true. Uh well, so you know, a lot of a lot has been going on uh in my life in terms of uh scholarships, yeah, um uh things that I've been doing. Um so I actually put in an audition for the Liberty University marching band. That's Liberty out in Lynchburg, Lynchburg, Virginia, correct?

SPEAKER_00

Virginia, I believe Jerry Falwell, right? So Christian based on 1971. The Flames, the Liberty Flames had a great football season a few years back. A few years ago, um, great basketball seasons here recently. He took it to the cats a couple years ago. Just tell it. Yeah, yeah, took the cats behind the woodshed in one of those Thanksgiving tournaments, yeah. One of those holiday tournaments. So uh audition for the Liberty Marching Band. Was successful.

SPEAKER_01

Nice, was successful, and so yeah, I'm you can actually look me up on uh Facebook. They uh posted a little something, my name's on there. I'm like, hey, that's crazy. Uh so yeah, you know, you know, big choice. Everyone's like, you know, I thought Mizzou was your school. Uh let me tell you, when I took that uh Liberty uh trip down there, you know, we flew out to Virginia, the campus, um, and just the profess like I met several professors. Um, it was just truly an amazing experience. My mom, my grandma were with me. And I mean, there were times where we were just stunned, like awe, just in awe of just you know that how nice the campus was, like I said, and just the students there too. Um, so yeah, just really felt like home. And actually a couple days ago, so a Monday, and I haven't told you this yet.

SPEAKER_00

Man, I might, I might, uh, I might have been tipped off. I might have been poking around a little bit. I haven't I haven't bugged you because I didn't know what the results were. Yeah. Right. So so I guess just to give people perspective, Liberty. Um, I want to say private public institutions. And we talked about this, you know, like so it comes at a pretty decent cost. Yeah. You know, uh, everything is pretty expensive in today's world, right? Uh, you know, some of our some of our very prestigious local NAIA institutions, you're talking 50K a year. Yeah. You know, you want to do uh law school or medical school school, whether it's Washburn, UMKC, University of Kansas, you know, vet school at K-State, you know, that's after you get your undergrad. You're talking tens of thousands of dollars a semester, right? Uh even to get um a standard four-year degree at Kansas State, KU, um, tens of thousands of dollars, right? Um, very affordable options. You go to Emporia State, uh, Fort Hayes State, Pitt State, some very affordable quality educations there. Liberty, you know, on on par with some of those other high-end private institutions, the networking, the quality education, the specificity of the Christian-based education campus, etc. Yep. You know, you're looking at uh looking at a decent price tag per year. North of what north of what like a Benedictine 50K a year might be, right? Yeah. So uh I I you know I'm looking to help you out, uh the means of like 15 bucks a year a year. You know, I can't I can't help you, but you got the band thing, that's awesome. But yeah, like a lot of their senior peers, you've been applying for some scholarships. There's a big one that Mrs. Keene kind of pushed you towards.

SPEAKER_01

Pushed me down, actually. So last year uh when I was a junior and she first came here, right? I mean, that the last year was her first year. Um, and as soon as we met and kind of interacted or whatnot, she wrote my name down, um, I think on a piece of paper, a sticky note, um, and said Jaden Sites for the Bill Gates Scholarship. So Bill Gates.

SPEAKER_00

So this is like Mr. Microsoft. Yeah. So I'm not a huge Bill Gates fan personally, but like what he his wife Melinda have done philanthropically across the world, like some really solid stuff. They've started a foundation or a portion of the foundation goes towards college tuition. And the Gates School Scholarship. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

So this is what you applied for. Yes, I did. Um, and again, this is a very prestigious uh scholarship to uh not only win, but just be a part of the city.

SPEAKER_00

I think we've got a five hundred thousand typically apply. Yeah, and there are some requirements. You check some of those boxes in terms of financials and everything. Yep, and and a hundred thousand apply, they wean it down to semifinalists in the realm of two thousand. Yep. I think they award something along the lines of three hundred, and of course, this is national, right? Um, so tell us about that process. What are some of the things that you did?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so um a lot of essays, I think four to be exact.

SPEAKER_00

And this was Jade and GPT, right? We didn't venture down chat GPT, we jade in GPT.

SPEAKER_01

This was all Jaden G GPT. And you know, it took a lot of I just remember them taking a lot of time because I wanted to say the exact right words and they were great prompts to him and great questions that they came up with. And you know, the other stuff in terms of the scholarship and what I had to, you know, have in it uh was again the financials, um, again some of the personal, you know, family circumstances and whatnot. And so I had to write about that. And that stuff is really not that hard. It it's pretty easy, but yeah, once we we got down to the you know the leadership, that's what they're looking for, um, and the gate scholarship. And so once we got down to that, I mean, that's where I really had to think, okay, what what do I really want to say here? Um, because the essays are a major, major um, I guess, deciding factor on uh if you win or not.

SPEAKER_00

Super influential and how you're gonna shake out in comparison to the other 999 applicants. Yeah, yeah. So okay, so I think you already kind of snuck it, snuck it in here, but you you were you were awarded this?

SPEAKER_01

I'm a gate scholar. Hey.

SPEAKER_00

Ladies and gentlemen, full ride. Full ride, guys. Bill Gates Scholarship Recipient. Yeah. So our guy here, our guy here, uh gonna kind of attend the uh school of his choice. I mean, could have been Harvard or Yale. Could have been any of the of them, but courtesy of the Bill Gates Foundation. There is one good thing Bill's still doing out there, and it's uh helping phenomenal young people like Jaden and several others around this nation uh cover that cost of school, all expenses paid. So pretty exciting stuff, man. Insane. Pretty exciting stuff. So blessed, and yeah, yeah, very much so. Uh no doubt deserved. Uh tremendously proud of you. Congratulations on that. Um definitely a feather in the cap to many other awesome things you and your peers have been able to achieve. And I I always love, you know, it's your individual award, you're the recipient of it. But, you know, I'm I always reflect on a lot of those individual accolades, and we kind of hearken to this uh off and on throughout the podcast this school year, that you know, sometimes uh all those individual awards, there's still people behind the scenes, right? You know, and um what a great reflection, not only upon you, but you, the community, your peers, like everybody can celebrate this with you and looking forward to doing that for years to come and keep them grades up so you can pay for it for all four years, right?

SPEAKER_01

Right, yeah. Well, one of the requirements is I have to uh pass, you know, high school and get a diploma here. So uh we're not done yet.

SPEAKER_00

Next Wednesday showcase.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I mean.

SPEAKER_00

Next Wednesday showcase blooms large.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man, yeah. So just an incredible, yeah. Again, extremely blessed and and just and thankful for uh not only yeah, Mrs. Keene, but just the community as a whole, um, you know, really shaping who I am. Um and and yeah, just so so blessed to receive that. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Fantastic stuff, sir. Liberty Flames, here we come.

SPEAKER_01

Liberty Flames, marching band. Yeah. My mom, my it's a funny story. My mom actually uh told me she was like, so am I gonna have to get a shirt that says uh parent of a proud parent of a Liberty of Flame Marching member? I think it said I didn't come for the game, I came for the halftime show, I think is what it said. Um I said that's crazy, you know, because uh just never would have thought it that was even conceivable. Uh playing the cymbals there. Um so entry level. I mean, we'll work it up. For sure.

SPEAKER_00

Um and so snare that bass drum. Yeah, rocking away.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I'll keep you honest. Uh give you something to do in your downtime. Yep. You know, um, because I know going to school at K-State, that marching band was at Old Memorial Stadium grinding away hours a day. Yeah. Yeah. Two a day. It's a different breed, baby. Yeah. It's a different breed. Yeah, two a days, here we go. Yeah, exactly. And you know, hey, you you give it a shot, you like it, you stick with it, you don't, that's okay. Plenty of other things to keep you busy out there.

SPEAKER_01

And I got plenty of money.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no job needed, man. No. Invest yourself in that campus. There's so many cool campus jobs that get out there as well. You know, I I spent time at the K-State Collegiate. I've shared that with you guys in class before, you know, and I kind of looked into that. I wasn't going into the world of advertising. I wasn't going into journalism. And I think they've got a journalism school out there that you're gonna dabble in. Yeah. All right, so that's awesome. Um, but uh yeah, there's so many unique opportunities when you find, you know, the the campus that you enjoy and the that campus community and just the different odds and ends. So excited for you there. Congratulations once again. Thank you. And um, you know, I think uh I think that's gonna do it for this episode. That's episode 33 in the books. We did the the was, a little bit of the is, a lot of the will be, a little bit of interview. Yeah. Interviewed you this time. Yep. That's good. It's a little impromptu. Yeah. But uh yeah, I was hoping we'd be able to sneak that in on this episode. Okay. Uh Mrs. Keene might have entered my classroom this morning, and I think I finally said, Hey, I haven't had I haven't had the guts to ask him yet. I know he's supposed to find out Monday.

SPEAKER_01

Like, do you know? It was it was kind of like a yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

It was kind of a I was like, oh yay.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, you know, and I wanted to I wanted to definitely, you know, kind of ease into telling everyone, you know, obviously had to tell my family first, and then uh Mrs. Keene was of course the next option because you know she's helped me along through this, and and yeah, there there was gonna be a time where we would talk about it, and so kind of glad I was on the podcast. But like we could all share this this moment, so here we go. Yes, thank you. Thank you, everyone. And go flames. Go flames, go flames, go flames, ladies and gentlemen.

SPEAKER_00

Thanks again for tuning in here to episode 33 of the All Things Dem Hall Podcast. Man, love yep, cherish and cherish, cherish everything that you got going on here in your wonderful lives. Uh Jay and I will be back next week with episode 34 as we inch closer and closer to seeing you out the door. And don't be afraid though. There's much, much more. More. Yeah. Look, we rhymed three times in a row there. That's terrible. That's terrible. Okay. We'll end on that note, though. Guys and gals, thanks for tuning in. Really appreciative of our regular listeners, and we'll be back here next week with another episode documenting the was, the is, and the will be for the world of all things Nemo. Adios.

SPEAKER_01

Peace.
