The Opp That Looks Like You
Description:
Not every enemy is outside.
Some of them live in your habits.
Some of them live in your decisions.
And some of them… look just like you.
In this episode of Articulated Illustration, Dwane Richardson Sr breaks down the concept of “opps” beyond the streets—and exposes the internal battles we ignore while focusing on external enemies.
Because while you’re watching them…
you might be losing to yourself.
This episode explores:
- The hidden “opps” we don’t recognize
- How patterns, habits, and mindset sabotage progress
- Why self-awareness is the first step to winning
- How to identify and eliminate internal resistance
If you’ve ever felt stuck, drained, or like you’re fighting the wrong battles—this episode will challenge you to look inward.
🎯 Because not every opp is a person.
Some are patterns.
Some are habits.
Some are decisions you keep making.
Everybody talks about ops. Watch your back. They plotting. They waiting on you to fall. But what if I told you some of your biggest ops don't live across town? They live in your daily routine. They live in your habits. And they live in your decisions. And the most dangerous part, you don't move like they're a threat. Why? Because they look like you. Now let's talk about the real ops. Welcome to Articulated Illustration, where we see things from our usual angles. I'm your host, Dwayne Richardson Sr. This podcast is sponsored by me. But if you want to invest in purpose and build something together, let's make it happen. Most people hear ops and just think it means haters. Nine, dog, it's deeper than that. In the streets, op is somebody who's watching your movements, studying your patterns, waiting for you to slip and benefiting when you fall. And they don't always attack. Sometimes they just wait. And the dangerous part, they don't need access to you. Just awareness of you. But here's what most people miss. They move like that in the streets, but not in real life. You watch a bet, but you won't watch with discipline. So if you really believe you got ops, why are you moving like you don't? Real op mentality is not paranoia, it's precision. And first and foremost, let me say this. You don't have to live a straight life to have ops. Opposition doesn't check your background, it shows up wherever there's purpose. So whether you're building something, healing for something, or trying to become something, opposition is always there. The only question is, are you moving like you know it? Ops don't show up if they're handy. They come on. And sometimes they come with something that operates different. Same tune, but with a switch. So when that switch is flipped, everything changes. Now think about your life. Your opposition is still on, distraction is on, comfort is on, excuses are on, either procrastination is on. And some of them got a switch on them. One more stroll, that's a switch. I'll start tomorrow. That's a switch. I don't feel like it. That's a switch. Every wrong switch you flip costs you something. But you got switches too. Discipline is a switch. Focus is a switch. Consistency is a switch. Execution is a switch. Same you, different output. So the real question isn't, do I have ops? It's what mold am I operating in? But here's the thing. Not all ops are loud. Some are quiet. People who watch but don't support. People who clap but don't show up. People who see you working and grinding and say nothing. And then they are disguised ops. They don't look like a threat. They sound like you deserve a break. One time won't hurt. You done enough already. Get some rest. That voice knows you real well. It knows when you're tired. It knows when you are close. Because it doesn't attack your worst days. It attacks your almost days right before the breakthrough. Now, here's the real deal. You, the person in the mirror, your habits, your patterns, your inconsistency, your ability to say, I want this, then move the complete opposite way, misaligned. A house divided against itself cannot stand. You cannot win eternally if you're fighting yourself internally. The Bible says a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways. And also it says no one can serve two masters. That's the vision, and that's eternal opposition. That's you fighting you. Kind of like Tyler Durden in Fight Club. You don't beat Ops by talking about them. You beat them with discipline, consistency, focus, execution, and applied knowledge. Because knowing what to do and doing what you know are two different animals. A lot of people are informed, but not transformed. And knowledge without application is complete wasted potential. Not every op is a person. Some are patterns, some are habits, some are decisions you keep making. And until you identify that, you'll keep fighting enemies on the outside. While the one on the inside keeps winning. And that's it. Reflect, learn, and move different. This is it for today's episode. If it has resonated with you, share it with another illustrator.
