Episode 30: "Women Supporting Women (But Actually)"
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Everyone loves supporting women... until a woman gets the promotion, opportunity, spotlight, or success they secretly wanted for themselves.
In this episode, Katie and Ava dive into the difference between performative support and genuine female empowerment. From comparison culture and scarcity mindsets to the women who changed our lives, we're having an honest conversation about what it really means to champion other women—even when it's hard.
We discuss why women are often conditioned to see each other as competition, how social media fuels comparison, and the small ways we can build stronger communities instead of rivalries. Plus, we're sharing personal stories about mentors, friendships, career champions, and the responsibility we all have to pay support forward.
Of course, because this is Work Wives in Real Lives, we also cover weekend updates, reality TV, sports, and a dramatic reading of some truly unhinged Instagram comments from men who apparently have unlimited free time.
💛 Because supporting women isn't a slogan—it's a choice you make when another woman wins.

SPEAKER_01We are back. We have a full episode planned today because we are actually filming within a week. So we did it. We don't need to spend an hour and a half to two hours talking about our month of adventures. No, no, we got that out of the way.
SPEAKER_00And we've got a good episode planned for you today. We do. We're gonna obviously have our weekend week recap, go into dramatic readings of this week is gonna be an update from an email that we had in a previous week. And you know, the men on social media are out of control. So we have some dramatic readings of their responses to our video clips on social media, which what are they doing there? What are they unhinged? Unhinged. Like we welcome all people to listen to this podcast, but except you guys men. You know who you are. Goodbye. We don't want you here.
SPEAKER_01You are not all the men, though, because all the men. We do have one comment and a request for content from the one and only Joe Bidot. And he loved our next update, our basketball talk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, our little basketball talk, a little sports. Um, so you yeah, you shall receive Joe Bodeau.
SPEAKER_01You you shall receive. So thanks to Joe Bidot, and in an effort to just continue to make the men hate us. Um, we are sports section. So we're gonna hit you with dramatic reading, main topic today, which is women supporting women, not the men obviously supporting us, besides Joe Bodeau. And um, then we're gonna go into our pop culture, entertainment, reality recap. And then we're closing it out with sports, and we're gonna talk all about the golf tournament this weekend, which I don't even remember which golf tournament it is, but I have a I have picks in for our pool. And so I'm gonna talk through that with you all. What is the golf tournament this weekend?
SPEAKER_00No idea. I am not in the golf world, but we do have FIFA going on. The US Open. That's what it's called. Yeah, um, oh yeah, sports soccer. Soccer. Soccer. We have a recap of hockey, all the things, NBA. Yeah, we're just such a versatile popcorn.
SPEAKER_01You can come to this podcast and you can get life advice, work advice, uh, chat with your besties. Yeah. Pop culture recap, sports news. I it's really an all-in-one-stop shop. We're just just like Pure More. Yeah, we're just well-rounded over here. Truly my wine girl day drinking club shirt. Sorry, but I'm not white. We are filming during the morning time. So even though I'm wearing this shirt, I am. It's probably not gonna be as fun of an episode because I won't be drunk because I'm not drinking. She will be sober. I have coffee. You not even spiked coffee. I'll be sober today. It's gonna be fine. You'll still be a little firecracker that you are. My favorite is watching our clips because I really don't watch the full episodes back because I just don't love listening to myself speak, like the men of Instagram. Um but it is funny to see like the more the further into the episode I get, the more like closed my eyes get.
SPEAKER_00I mean it same, but it's mainly because usually we're filming late at night, and so it's like getting close to midnight my time, and I'm just like, but you know, I rally. You were less tired than I was last week.
SPEAKER_01I was falling asleep and I was like, we need to stop. I need to go to bed. And it was like nine o'clock for me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, once I saw the yawns coming, I was like, oh no, not on the pod, not allowed. She's going down. She's going down. Well, let's chat about a little recap of last weekend, this past week. What's been going on?
SPEAKER_01I truly don't even know what I did last weekend. Oh, it was so busy. Um it was so busy, I forgot what we did. So uh Friday night. Oh, yes. So we drove up to our friend Alex and Taylor's house. They live up in the Antelope Valley, which is north of Los Angeles. We knew it was there was gonna be traffic because it was a Friday afternoon, but I did not realize that there was a soccer game or football game at SoFi. Yeah. So it said it was gonna take us three hours to get there. It's normally like a little over an hour without traffic. Um and so we ended up taking Angeles Crest Highway, which goes up through the mountains, and it's actually really pretty drive. It's better than the five. Um and then we watched the soccer game. Uh my we'll get into sports later, but that was that. And then I per usual fell asleep on the couch at like nine o'clock, and they all like went in the hot tub and we were spending the night there. So um that was fun. They have a very comfortable couch. And woke up the next morning. It was Bowie, my little niece's birthday party. Um it was so cute. It was a little princess tea party. That's so sweet. To Everett's uh anger, we had to leave before the cake because we had to be back in Orange County by two o'clock for the Sound of Music musical at Seeker Strom, which was so good.
SPEAKER_00Were The Hills Alive?
SPEAKER_01What the Hills were alive, but I did not know until that moment that my husband had never seen that Sound of music, which wild. I watched it, I don't know why we watched it like every year at Christmas. It's not a Christmas movie, but like we would just watch it like during Christmas time every year as a family, and my son loves Maria. So my parents introduced him to the Sound of Music when we were traveling and they were watching the kids, and he is obsessed. Um I think they watched it last November when they were watching him when we were in Europe, but um, yeah, he loves the uh something, something, something about Maria. I don't know how the song goes. I'm not good at the songs.
SPEAKER_00Um man, I used to be like so on it with sound of music. How was Zaddy von Thirstrap in the musical? Was he good? Who? The dad? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Captain Blackrap. He wasn't as who plays him in the movie, Christopher Plummer? I'm no idea, most likely. Uh he wasn't him, but you know, it was fine. They had like actual little kids, and my my son's like, how do these kids go to school and do this? I'm like, they don't go to school, they're like probably homeschooled, on the road, traveling theater kids. Yeah, he was very confused on how there's like real kids in, or maybe it was Wyatt that said that. It doesn't matter. Is it Christopher Plummer? Hold please. Um, like the girlfriend that he has at the beginning of the movie before he falls in love with Maria slash fiancé, and then the the guy friend that's always in the house. Like they gave them more of a large. Yeah, thank you. He was not Christopher Plummer, but he was good. They all had beautiful voices. The women who played Maria, outstanding. The kids were so good, especially the girl who plays Liesl, she's the oldest daughter, I think. Oh, yes, I loved Liesel. She was my favorite. Yeah, and then but I've never actually like like thought about the lyrics of the song. And so, like when her and her boyfriend are like singing to each other, they so they had um like a screen off to the side with like the the words printed for if you know people are hard of hearing. And so naturally, subtitles, I'm reading them the whole time. And I'm like, oh, this song is actually like this guy's kind of a creep. I don't know. And he turns out being a Nazi. Going on, 17. Yeah, but like some of the words, it's like kind of dirty and creepy. And I know he like helps them in the end, but like you still became a Nazi, so we don't like you.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, we don't.
SPEAKER_01Um we don't fuck around with that. We don't fuck around with that. Uh no Nazis, thank you. Um I'm sure we'll find some in our Instagram messages, though, after if a clip about this gets posted. Um so we did that, went out to dinner, Benny Hana, always a good time. Although, so we are, if you live in the North Orange County area, you go to Bari Bari in your Belinda. It's just the spot you go for Teppanyaki. So we never go to Benihana's, um, but it was closest to the theater. And they charge you extra for fried rice. Like it should just be that should just be the only option. Like you go and you get the fried rice. So everyone had to add on fried robbery. Yeah. Highway robbery, like take any advantage of the people. Um, and they don't throw food at you. So bari bari, like it, the food was yummy. It was very good. No, they don't. Do they at least do the egg roll and the volcano? They did the egg roll and the volcano. Um, but yeah, no food got thrown at us.
SPEAKER_00So honestly, that's fine. I hate that's like I always get stressed out when it's very stressful. You have the scrambled egg flying at your face, and you're like, I'm not going to catch this. I'm gonna look like an idiot. My tongue that's like way too big for my mouth is just gonna be like all over the place.
SPEAKER_01No, truly, it is. Um, you I feel like everyone looks like little seals, like our art, like we're gonna be. Yeah, it's not a flattering moment.
SPEAKER_00No, no one looks good doing it, but you know what, you're all in it together. Unless you're shooting sake indoor mouths. That is acceptable.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, not when you're not when you're not pregnant. We'll do it again.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, it doesn't hit the same when it's water.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then let's see, Sunday. My husband and son left for camping early. My daughter and I ran some errands. We went and had a little afternoon dinner time fun at um Amy and Coco Puff's house. Harper's house, I should say, really. Harper's house. Um yeah, that was our weekend. And then this week it's just been all hands on deck, all hands being me, because my husband and son have been gone all week. I miss my son and my husband, but like my son terribly, and he's just the cutest little potato. I've been getting videos and photos of him fishing and hiking. I know he's so cute, but I actually hate fishing, so I'm glad I'm not there. I think it's so sad. I love eating fish, but I don't want to see it happen. Um and yeah, but I will just say my house never been cleaner. Every time I come home and Garrett's alone with the kids, it's a disaster. And like I will say, one kid that kid being Everett makes a lot of the mess. Like, why it's actually a pretty clean, like neat person. Yeah, she's respectable about her. Yeah, and so Garrett's like, um, I can't wait to see what a mess the house is when I come home. And he told me this yesterday. Come home on Saturday, and I was like, Okay, sure. Let's have a conversation about what the house is gonna look like, and you will be floored. He's like, I see a box in the background. I'm like, those are samples for our bathroom renovation, okay? Like, God, you see one box. Oh yeah, I don't know why I was trying to find something on samples. I don't know what I was doing, I don't know where my brain is, but that's been my week. Um, why it's been at Girl Scout camps, I've been doing drop-offs pickups, slash, I had a couple moms helping me for a few days. So shout out, thank you to Vanessa and Natalie. And that's it. We're going to see Toy Story 5 today. What was that? Out in theaters. It came out today. Cute. So we're gonna go see with harps later and Gene.
SPEAKER_00And yeah, that's been my week. What about you? You know, I have total amnesia. I have no idea what I did other than exist and grow and literally every day become more irritated at just everyone and everything that surrounds me. Yeah. I last weekend had 24 hours with my husband, so obviously nothing in the house got done. And we just ran errands, and uh that evening I apparently like my whole back injury and me like going fent bent and having just being on bed rest is really hitting the I'm going in there. Yeah, I'm going viral on Instagram with my little story. So here's another story of me falling. I have two dogs, one of which is my little boy. However, this little boy is becoming very elderly and is getting on my last nerve. Only because I never mind it before he's very attached to me, where I can't even like go to the bathroom without him underneath my feet.
SPEAKER_01I get ready to have a baby because you don't you you will never go to the bathroom alone again until they get older.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. My Hans is nine years old. I have not gone to the bathroom solo in nine years. Which I kind of trained him to do that because one when he was a puppy, I didn't want him just going crazy all over the place. He knows you're talking about him right now. Well, that's Miss Opal. She forgot about it. She's like, what are you doing talking about him? She's a princess. She's just she is. But Hans right now is very attached to me, even more so because I know he senses that I am growing another human inside of me. Yeah. So he's like very much uh attached to me at all times. And so I'm cooking dinner, and I knew he was behind me, but I didn't realize how close behind me he was to a point where he was like lying just like spread out on the kitchen floor, like right at my heels. And so I turn around and immediately I trip over him, and I'm falling face forward. And so I try to break the fall with my knees, with my elbows. I like caught myself on this right hip and just like tucked and rolled onto my back. It was just like all in slow-mo, but one of those moments where it probably happened like super fast, but I also like blacked out just like out of fear of landing on my stomach, which I did not, but I like was on the ground just like a dead bug. My husband luckily was there and he like quickly sat me up and I just started hysterically crying because I was so frightened. I'm like, oh my god, what did I just do? Like, is our baby okay? He's like, You're fine. Like, he's like holding my stomach, just waiting for him to like move or kick, and he was. Um, but he got a little shooken up, which he's fine, you know. We have an appointment next week, so we shall see.
SPEAKER_01I mean, if you hear him, if you hear, if you hear him moving inside of you, if you feel him moving, you're fine.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's moving, he's grooving, he's stretching, he's kicking. I'm very uncomfortable. Uh, but yeah, after that fall, I'm just like very cautious now of my surroundings. I'm moving a little bit slower.
SPEAKER_01You might want to stop taking the dogs on walks given your walk update today. Was that today or yesterday? I don't remember.
SPEAKER_00But every single day I walk these dogs, they are just out of control because we're in a new area. There's all new smells, there's all new trees that we need to mark. It's we can't just walk.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00And I'm there like walking with a purpose, but you know, that's what's going on over here. Work is work, life is life.
SPEAKER_01I will say, so we're gonna get into the comments shortly here about the men of Instagram had very strong opinions about God, Ava being upset that there was a scratch on her floor, which doesn't even have the most views. So the most recent video we posted, um, or it was maybe from yesterday, uh yeah, yesterday's, was her talking about how she got the back injury. 30,000 views, not one comment. This video had her 2,500 views, and all the comments from the men, I just don't understand the algorithm in the first place and how these men landed on our page, but they were very upset. I will say I have now seen the scratch, not firsthand, but via a video that Ava sent me this morning. It is, it is a big scratch, okay? It is very right in the middle. I don't care if you paid for the flooring, if you didn't pay for the flooring, if you laid it by hand, if you made it, someone in China made it. Who cares? It's still your house, and I would be freaking livid. Garrett actually did do something similar where he was dragging because he refused to ask me to help him carry it. I'm like walking in the room and I'm like, what the fuck are you doing? He we have a fake Christmas tree, and so he had it, but it's very large. He had packaged it in its bag, and he just starts dragging it to put it in our Anne Frank closet up in our room. And the it has like a metal base, and so the met and like the in, you know, this the stem or trunk, I don't know. The middle part of the tree is metal, obviously. And just a scratch goes all the way down our hallway. And I'm like, but luckily our floors are a lot lighter than yours, so it's not as noticeable. And our floors are older, you know, they've been in for a while. So yes, to the one man who mentioned that kids and dogs will scratch up your floors, like yes, it just kind of blends because our floors are already kind of fucked, but like yours are darker and new, so yes, it's very noticeable. And I would be very I'm angry for you.
SPEAKER_00It's very noticeable. And obviously, these men did not listen to the entire episode and did not know all the things leading up to that that caused my actual just it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01There there didn't have to be anything that happened leading up to it. You could still have a right to be angry.
SPEAKER_00Yes, but you know, us women have no rights to be they want us seen and not heard, actually. Yeah. Um, so I mean that was a quick little update of our lives, so we can just jump into let's just jump right into it.
SPEAKER_01I make sure my volume's off so you don't hear the video play. Oh, yeah. Um okay. So let's 25 comments. Wow. I will say like a lot of them are from not a lot of them, but several of them are from our woman tribe who we're defending our honor. Oh, we're up to almost 34,000 views on the how you feel. Ayo, keep it tuning, people like, comment, subscribe, though. Okay. Like, comment, subscribe. So here's a couple like other things I'll note about the people that chose to leave comments on this video. One, they almost usually have no posts and no followers. They might be a bot, but sometimes they're not. I don't think these ones are bots. These are nine out of ten times when I comment back to them, they don't respond again. Like they don't keep it going. They just leave their one comment. I respond and then they go away. But this one man was not let in a go. I think he's commented since I have not responded to his latest comment because I'm just honestly forgot he existed. But um can you please read that one? This is like the best one. Was this the first one that was left?
SPEAKER_00This was the first one that was left. Okay, so this man says, and this is his words exactly. This is not me stuttering. Get up and help Nah yell and make him feel like she, because he didn't solo lift a table. So I responded very quickly. First of all, I did not even say what item it was out of like respect for just like our household.
SPEAKER_01It was not a table, and it is something that is very heavy and should not be dragged. I'm just gonna say that right now. You need a dolly for that shit. Yeah. Um, so I respond back and I said, Not that I would expect your peace-sized brain to understand this since you're clearly an embarrassing excuse of a human, but she's very pregnant with his child. So no, she does not need help. Peace. Peace. And then Jamie responds, and also recovering from a back injury whilst whilst pregnant with his child. And then I respond back, but from our Instagram account, not my personal one. Unfortunately, someone who we would to like in response to Jamie's note, unfortunately, someone who we would surmise gets the man flu regularly would not understand the implications of her condition.
SPEAKER_00And then you can read your response. I said, Is this even English? No, I will not be getting up to help him when I'm seven months pregnant to move a 200 plus pound item. No, sir.
SPEAKER_01Are you kidding me? So then I respond to Ava's comment, spelling really took a hit today because nothing he said was sensual. I mean, I get what he was trying to say, but like so. Then he responds back to me, not an excuse, lol. Yeah. Sorry, not not a excuse. He did forgot the N on Ann. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um then he responds to me saying, Then you can't be complaining. And at that point, I just like I started fuming.
SPEAKER_01You know that she can't complain because she's pregnant and can't help him move the table. So she can't be mad when he scratched it, wasn't a table, but she can't be mad that the floor then scratches because she's unable, unable to help him. Like this man is mind boggling. But My response. This was like just so iconic. Pardon. Being pregnant with a back injury on modified bed rest is not an excuse. That's a bold take from someone who will never be pregnant and whose role in pregnancy lasts less than 10 seconds. If you know you know. And then my girlfriend responded, right? She's a former uh the kid's former nanny Alexa. Shout out. Oh cutie. Her brother is like a TikTok star. Oh, really? Like I think he has like millions of followers and stuff. I used to work with her mom, and their whole family is just like the cutest, sweetest people. Anyway, and she's gorgeous. He has 31 followers in his private. No need to be wasting your time on weirdo freak men. Oh my gosh. Okay, I haven't even actually waited I need to read this.
SPEAKER_00I thought about this. I haven't read it yet. So he responds. It just keeps going with this man. Like, okay, he says to Katie, and again, I'm not stuttering. This is his exact word. Hate you break it to you. That doesn't give you the right to be a ass to him. N T M. Is that not to mention? Not to mention. First of all, he spelled break wrong. He used the incorrect spelling of break.
SPEAKER_01I'll just say that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, break as in like uh car break. Like car break, yeah. Not to mention, in any healthy relationship, men are a massive backbone during pregnancy. Sorry, you choose a POS that only lasts 10 seconds.
SPEAKER_01So I'm just gonna explain how getting pregnant works for this man. Let's it's not about the whole experience. The actual reference to pregnancy of being less than 10 seconds is because there's a very particular thing that comes out of a man that does take less than 10 seconds, um, called a sperm, and it implants into an egg. And that whole situ the the release of the sperm takes less than 10 seconds. Just welcome to human health. Okay. And not all men are involved in the entire pregnancy. And yes, mentally, if you do have a partner, they are there to support you. But physically, which was the reference I was going for, they do one thing that lasts less than 10 seconds. Okay. Yeah. That's it. Yeah. That's it. They're not carrying the baby, they're not growing. Maybe they sympathy eat with you. So maybe their stomach grows. I don't know. But physically speaking, their actual role medically is less than 10 seconds. So thank you. I will be responding to that one in a bit.
SPEAKER_00And then he responded to Alexa saying, correct, I'm not a hoe, nor do I actively use social media, not to mention you thinking follower count matters, says a lot about you. You know, sir. I'm just gonna respond back. Go suck my dark, large, inflamed areola. Okay? Ariolas. I'm responding back.
SPEAKER_01Lol, find a better use for your fingers than writing stupid shit like this, then. Okay. Yeah then. And then it just keeps going. So then we have another man that responds back, or just another comment. John. Oh John. Um how much of that floor she paid for. And then I responded from our uh account enough that I know exactly what that scratch cost him. And then Alexa added, she's the provider. And then chain so big.
SPEAKER_00You can't want these men. He wrote, he bought it. He shouldn't even have felt bad. Like, I'm sure if you had done that to your brand new home, you would feel bad.
SPEAKER_01Chain so big. Okay. So then I respond back to him again from our uh podcast account. By that logic, if you buy a car, you can just drive it into a pole and call it a successful purchase. Noted. And then Instagram decided to hide this one. I'm not really sure why of all of them that hid this one, but yeah, you can expand it. And this is from Fossi Bear. Fossi Bear?
SPEAKER_00Um, he wrote floors get scratched. Were you planning on walking on eggshells for the rest of your life? Because you bought wood floors. It's eggs, shells. Again, these men don't know how to spell.
SPEAKER_01So they should not be writing anything at all. Eggs, shells? Like it's eggshells.
SPEAKER_00It's just one word. I could see being upset if you planned on never having kids or pets in your house, but don't be over dramatic, especially if he's still if he still feels guilty about it.
SPEAKER_01So again, I just cannot with these men. So I respond back from our official account, perhaps, but nothing screams over dramatic, like a man leaving a paragraph long comment on a random reel chastising two women for being over dramatic with my air quotes. And then I respond again from my personal one. I fear walking on eggshells would also scratch the floor. And then Ava closes this out.
SPEAKER_00Because in his profile is him and a girl kissing him. So I'm assuming he's in a relationship.
SPEAKER_01We can only hope it's someone that's not related to him.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I said thanks for your input, but I will be in quote over dramatic as I'm seven months pregnant and in the middle of a move. Would love if you told your wife or girlfriend in that situation that what that she was over-dramatic while carrying your child. See what happens, buddy. Come at us, Fossi Bear.
SPEAKER_01Come at us. And to the original one, Dom MV3. You know what? You got your 15 seconds of fame on our comment section. So you're welcome. And that's what she wrote. These men. So, men, thanks for the engagement. I I know, Alexa, to your point, it's probably not worth our time. It is not worth our time.
SPEAKER_00But I was having fun with you. I'm glad you were having fun. I when I first saw these comments come through that morning, it didn't affect me. I was like, whatever, these guys are so done. And then as the day progressed and you're like, in my situation, you're uncomfortable. You just taught two classes back to back. You're working, you're sitting, my back started like flaring up again. And then all these comments kept coming in more from these men. Literally turned into Regina George when she's like about to write in the um burn book, the burn book. I was just like, just like threw my phone and turned everything off and just like went into the emails and just got a bunch of work done. I was very productive. I was like, responding to everyone's cancellation emails. I'm like, this is what you have coming.
SPEAKER_01Your final payment is on this day now. Do you also get those? Like we call them National Cancel Your Membership Day because they come in waves. It's like one day or a 24-hour period. Something happens in the universe and everyone decides that's the day they need to cancel their membership.
SPEAKER_00They tell all their friends, and there's like a mass text message that goes out to the entire studio saying, hey y'all, today's the day to cancel your membership. Yep.
SPEAKER_01It's a great day.
SPEAKER_00It's a great day to ruin someone else's day.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for ruining my day. And also it it always happens where it's the same day that the men come for us too. So, you know, men, we don't hate all of you, just four of you. So there's that.
SPEAKER_00Um, let us say, like, yes, we are gonna say stuff about our husbands because this is let me remind you of the title of our podcast, Work Wives and Real Lives. So we're gonna talk about husbands, okay?
SPEAKER_01Like, you're gonna sit there and tell me you've never vented about your wife, like to the men or your girlfriend or whatever, to your friends. Like, absolutely you have. And if you are that perfect of a human and your wife is just that perfect of a person where she never pisses you off, then you're probably living in Gilead. And I don't want to live there. So, you know what? This is you're just listening to a vent session. And if you don't vent about people, like you should be studied. Like, there's something wrong with you. Like, how many beta blockers are you on? I don't know. But like this is life. I mean, my husband has nothing to complain about, so that's true.
SPEAKER_00Mine mine doesn't either, but I honestly I am the perfect wife. Truly. Ask any of my closest friends and family that know our situation and tell me I'm not like the ideal wife. Okay.
SPEAKER_01No, you moved across country for him so that he could be gone all the time. And you cook for him, you take care of his dogs, you make his baby, you do everything. It was so funny because I'm not like that. I'm moving to Brooklyn at some point in my life. Garrett says he's not moving, so I'm just gonna leave him. He can do whatever. I'll see him on weekends. But um, I was like having lunch with my team at work the other day, and we're just like talking about what's going on. And it was like, oh yeah, my, you know, I'm solo parenting this week with Wyatt. And they're like, oh, so do you have to do all like the cooking and stuff? And like you have to, and I was like, no. I was like, we have DoorDashed every single night this week because I don't cook, and that's my husband's job. And you know what? I clean, I have three jobs. I you know, I provide in other ways. Cooking, not one of them. I do make a mean pasta salad, and it's my mom's recipe, so I have to give her props, which is really good. I'm making today to bring to a birthday party tomorrow. But um, other than that, like I don't find joy in cooking. I I love eating, but yeah, I know I'm not the perfect wife. Um, but I gladly accept that. And Garrett sticks around. It's been 15 years, almost 16. So, you know, he's still here.
SPEAKER_00No, I know I'm the perfect wife, even though I don't I am doing better at cooking. One, because I have to like feed myself when he's not around, but when he is home, he does take the liberty of cooking. Um but you know what? I also make bread. You do.
SPEAKER_01Are you gonna bring me some?
SPEAKER_00If we'll see how next week goes.
SPEAKER_01We'll see how the week goes and what it presents. Stella like behaving today. No, she's not.
SPEAKER_00No, that was another thing today. I so last week I um fed my starter for the first time in months, and she quickly sprouted. It's like perfect. And then last night I uh fed her again so that when I woke up this morning, I could start my bread process so that come Saturday morning I could bake the bread and have it ready to go before 12 p.m. I wake up and Stella decided to not sprout. So I had to wait, feed her again. I will check on her after we film this to make sure she is responding. So TBD.
SPEAKER_01TBD. We need to take a brief pause because I'm getting my cars washed and the guys don't have to go pay him. Oh, please. Holding hello. Sorry about that. So we had to just take a brief pause. I'm sure she's gonna cut out the actual pause. Um, because I'm such a bad wife, I am surprising my husband with a clean car. He can come home to tomorrow. So I got his car washed for him. So uh that's his father's day present. Happy Father's Day. Happy Father's Day to all of the nice men.
SPEAKER_00Yes, but mainly to all the moms who also single moms, all the single mommies out there. Your mom and dad. Yeah. And just like overall mothers for making their husbands fathers. Yeah, basically. It's you're welcome.
SPEAKER_01You got your gift already. You got your first gift nine years ago, your second one five years ago. There you have it. And today you get a car wash. There you go. Very sweet.
SPEAKER_00All right, let's get into our main topic of yes, women supporting women, but like actually. Um, yeah, because posting a quote about empowering and actually supporting women are two very different things. Yes. Very much so. Um yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, so one thing that I feel like is very common is like petting women against each other and like kind of this myth that women are each other's competition. Um, and that there's like only room for like one woman in the workplace or in um, you know, a certain setting or whatever. And also, I think it's comes online too, right? You have all these like female influencers or even like celebrities, like they always like to pit Taylor Ellison Swift against every other female singer in the world. And it's like, no, it's not a compet first of all, there's no competition, but um she supports other women, like artists, and I that's okay. And like not everyone has to be like at the same level, and they can you can coexist and like each can have their own successes in their own like arenas, right? And so um, you know, we'll talk about career comparisons, mom comparisons, like Ava's entering this new chapter of her life and she cannot, she's already getting feedback from other women on how to be a pregnant person and a mother, and it never stops, it never stops.
SPEAKER_00And my biggest pet peeve right now being pregnant is people coming up to me and asking, like, oh my gosh, how far along are you? And I tell them, and they're like, Oh, just you wait. Yeah, no, like I don't want to hear that. Like, I I know what's coming for me, yeah, but it's always just like, how far along are you? Oh, just you wait. Well, just you wait. I cannot.
SPEAKER_01It's like you don't know. I assume you don't know how like what you got yourself into.
SPEAKER_00I know what I got myself into. We tried for over a year of conceiving this beautiful soon-to-be child. And so, yes, I do know what I got myself into. I'm highly uncomfortable. I'm looking forward to the day where I get to meet my child and hold him in my arms and being able to sleep on my stomach and to just be able to get some sort of rest. I know it's gonna be very different, but I can't wait to just be able to sleep. And I know everyone's experience is different when it comes to sleep training babies, but it cannot be worse than what I'm experiencing right now.
SPEAKER_01Just you would well, I I mean, so I have a different experience because I loved being pregnant. Like, obviously, I loved my babies alive outside of me, but um, I I loved being pregnant, so I like of course you get it, it's uncomfortable at the end, but um yeah, yeah. I just yeah, I don't know. Everyone has different experiences, I think that's the point of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I love what my body is able to do, but am I in love with it right now? No, amazed by it. Anytime I'm at the gym or I'm in class and I get a little visual of myself after I have like a like jump scare of like, who is that? Oh, it's me. Um, I am like, oh wait, look at look at her go. Yeah, you know, but yeah, that's the biggest thing with pregnancy that's getting on my nerves right now is the just you wait comments, like, get out of here, Susan. Get out of here. Um I know what's coming for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think for like bringing it back to like a work scenario, I've always been really blessed with like a majority of my managers in the corporate world were um were female are my current one is, and um at my last company were female, and I always felt really supported, but there's definitely been instances, and like I will say I'm not like a girls girl in the extent I don't have a ton of like female friendships because I just vibe better with guys. Um, and I will say, like at my last company, I definitely had much stronger relationships with male coworkers than I did with female coworkers. And I never like I don't know that I ever like had a specific instance there where it felt like a competition with other women, but I definitely feel like other women were threatened by me. And I think it's because I am a I have a strong personality. I don't sugarcoat things, I say things how they're like I'm much more like a guy in that sense of like how I carry myself at work. Um, but and I've been, you know, blessed with opportunities and been successful in them and getting promoted pretty quickly. Um, so I I do think that there's I've definitely felt tension of like other women feeling threatened by me. And I think it's really easy to try to knock someone that you're threatened by. And I even had a scenario at my current company, um, which I won't go too far into because I'm trying to talk about my current roles, um, where I did feel like it was like a kind of, you know, say it's in a flight way like dick measuring contest with another female. And I'm just like, why? Like I'm not, I don't, I'm not out to like, I'm trying to help you. Like I'm not trying to like make you look bad and or anything like that. And that was a very one-off scenario. Everyone else I work with has like been super amazing. But um, but yeah, I'm like, I I don't for me, I don't at least I try not to reciprocate any of that sort of energy, but I definitely have felt it directed at me. And luckily it's never like held me back in any capacity. But um, I do think it's interesting, you know, women in the workplace, especially in a corporate environment, like it it is more male dominated. And I think that for most, you know, most companies. And I think that there's a lot to be said for like women actually having each other's back in the workplace and like building each other up and being that support system where your win is is my win. Like maybe not literally, like it's not gonna feel like that, like one of us gets promoted and the other one doesn't, but more women rising in companies is going to make more opportunities for other women in the workplace, like the next generation down. And so I really feel like it's important for women to be each other's champions um and not see it as a threat or as a competition. It's more like let's do something for the female race and like really support each other, you know?
SPEAKER_00I fullheartedly agree with that. And in um opposition of you, I've worked in small businesses where it has been very much female prominent, and I've had uh female bosses and worked with just females, and so I feel like I've been exposed to all different types of personalities. My personality in the workplace is I'm a grinder and a go-getter, but I'm also very kind to everyone in the workplace and outside the workplace too. Um, I think sometimes my kindness gets taken advantage of to the point where someone who sees me hustling, sees me grinding, almost sees it as a competition and will try to like, I guess like one up, one up, and I don't care.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't care. I'm a people pleaser in the workplace, like wholeheartedly. And so if I'm sensing that energy from another coworker, I'm like going over the top and like above and beyond to make this coworker happy to the point where I like have a meltdown when they like come at me aggressively, finally, when it's like their personality is exposed. I'm not gonna say it's always the same, um, just like signs. I'm I'm not gonna say it. Okay, because I don't want to, you know, we're supporting women here. I'm supporting women, yeah. I don't want to like claim a specific like birth sign to be more aggressive than the other.
SPEAKER_01Well, there are aggressive birth signs.
SPEAKER_00Yes. I mean, I'm one of them, a Gemini, but I'm just like very versatile. That's just me. I have no idea where you were going with that.
SPEAKER_01So uh there we go.
SPEAKER_00There we go. But there we go. Um, but yeah, so my hustle, my grind, my kindness, it does get taken advantage of of others in the workplace and instances where I'm like rushing to get something done, and then they're also rushing and trying to get it done before me. I'm like, it's not a competition. Yeah. Like my boss asked me to do something, so I'm gonna like rush and go get it done for her in this timely matter, and then I don't need you hovering over me telling me I'm doing this wrong, I'm doing that wrong. You know, I'm like, you know what? You fucking do it then, and you can go take whatever it is that our boss asked for me to do into that room, and you have at it because yeah, like leave me alone, let me just do my job.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think too, there's been like some instances in the pure bar world with other owners where I has very much felt like catty, and like I remember the first year I won an award, my first full year of being an owner at the first convention I went to, and Tustin won an award, and I was walking up on stage, and there was this this there's just like this little clicky group of owners, and um, of course they're all women. And they were like snickering and like I'm like they were sitting towards the front, and I'm like on stage. I can see them. Like, I'm like, why? Like, why are you like putting me down? Like, I can hear you first. Of all. And second of all, like, what's the point? I've never even met you. No, most of them. And I'm like, what did I do to you? Like nothing. Like, I'm sorry, my success makes you feel smaller, but that's not a me problem. That's a you problem. And instead, you could be like, how can I build it up to get an award if like that's what you were mad about that I got the award? It was a number data-based award. It wasn't like a subject, you know, subjective thing where they just decided to give me an award. Like I won it because of the numbers. And you know, yeah. Either like my grandma used to say something. If you don't have anything nice to say, just don't say anything at all. And men of Instagram remember that. And women putting other women down in the workplace, or just in life in general, also remember that. Because it's not cool.
SPEAKER_00And it's and on that topic too, it I think it was a different it wasn't that year because I wasn't there that year. And that the next year, we I think we had won another award of some sort, or we were in the top five or ten category for a specific award. And there were some other managers coming up to me, just like asking for like, hey, what do you guys do? I'm like, this is what we do. Like, I'm happy to share what works for us, what hasn't worked for us. I'm not like a secret geek gatekeeper, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, and that is one way to support other women is don't gatekeep your what made you successful or your wins or whatever, or sharing what didn't work and your losses, like so they avoid potentially running into that. That's what actually supporting women looks like is you know, sharing knowledge and resources. And I think we are always happy. I've jumped on calls with several peerboard owners in the past. We've hosted our own little webinars on stuff. Ava's had multiple one-on-ones with other GMs and other owners about processes and stuff that she goes through and she trains them on. And like we're not getting paid for that, and we don't expect to. I mean, I pay her for her time because I have to, but gotta follow that employment law, and you deserve it. But like we're doing it for free because we want to help other women like thrive and be successful, and that's what really what being a girls' girl is, even if I don't have a lot of up front.
SPEAKER_00Because too, we've been very humbled in the just studio space together of like thinking we we got it all, we know what we're we're doing, we don't need to follow this process, we don't need to follow that process, and then we were like very much humbled when we went to our first um corporate sales training, and we're surrounded by other successful owners that are like very female prominent in just like the fitness space, which is really awesome. And just like that group of people were so supportive and like sharing how they got to this number, what's been working for them, what hasn't worked for them, and putting that into play. And just as Katie has said multiple times, is let's just like throw it at the wall and see what sticks at this point with items. But um yeah, that was a very influential training for the both of us, just to like open our eyes and be like, oh, okay, like we've got some work to do. We hustled, we grinded, the studios got to where they are. They're doing good, they're doing okay right now.
SPEAKER_01Uh well, I mean, I think it is important to talk about. It's it's been a it's been rough. It's been rough, and I don't think we're alone. I know we're not alone in that because I'm part of an owner's Facebook group, and you know, people like it's and it's not just Pure Bar, it's Boutique Fitness. Soul Cycle's closing, tons of studios, Orange Theory is closing a bunch. Um, boutique fitness is really taking a hit right now. I think a lot of what we're hearing from members that are leaving, it's financial related. Um, it's moving out of the area. Like Southern California is an expensive place to live. And yeah, the economy is not great right now. And so, what's the easiest thing to cut like out of your recurrent expenses is gonna be a gym membership. Like, I get it, you know. Um, I also think it's like a nice outlet for um to escape some things. And I think focusing on your health is really important. That's just my own personal plug. Um, it was interesting. Actually, we got a new new member yesterday, and she recently got laid off from her job and signed up for a membership because she's like, this is gonna be my new like way to take my mind off of this employment change I just had. And, you know, that's where she's gonna invest her her, she's choosing to invest money in is as a membership because it's an escape for her. So um I think that's amazing. Um, but yeah, boutique fitness is taking a huge hit, and it is a lot of female owners that are, you know, experiencing this, but it's also female staff. I mean, of course, there's male staff members as well, but like, you know, how many of the soul cycles that are closing had female trainers that now are out of jobs? And how many, you know, of course there's men that are impacted, but um, in the fitness space, and especially if it's more of a fitness brand that is tailored towards women, which I know Soul Cycles both, but like bar in particular, Pilates Studios in particular, um, where they are clo having to close, you know, that has a huge impact on female employment. And it's sad. And um, you know, when we talk about how you can support other women, um, referrals is like huge. The huge freest way, like it doesn't cost you any money to refer someone to a female-owned business. And I we we give out referral rewards, a lot of other businesses do as well. But even if we didn't, like if you don't gatekeep it, if you love something and then it's owned by any small business owner, but especially a female, like shout it. Like, hey, yeah, members at Pier Barrio Tested in Santa Margarita, you like us? Like, tell a friend, write a review. Like those stuff, those little things are free and they really help support growing women businesses, all businesses, but we're talking about women today. Um, and especially in a time that's been really challenging for boutique fitness, like this time is. I mean, I ran the numbers year over year uh profit comparison this week, and I basically started crying because it's been I don't cry, so I didn't, but like I internally was because it's a gut punch. It was a huge gut punch to see just how far revenues fallen and expenses don't go down, right? Like, of course, we can reduce classes if our member count's going down and that's gonna reduce some payroll, but a lot of our fit like our fixed expenses go up every year. So um it's been a really, really challenging time. And you know, I'm hopeful it'll turn around, it always does. And there's a reason, you know, Pair Bar has been a brand for 25 years, shout out 25th anniversary shout out this month. Um, but you have to be able to to kind of weather that storm. And so finding ways to support businesses that you do love that don't cost you anything. And again, that's referrals, reviews. Um, and just you know, tell a friend.
SPEAKER_00Tell a friend to tell a friend, support a friend, you know. Um but on that aspect too, of just like ways to support women-owned businesses with reviews, um, sharing the business, uh, introducing people to the community. And that's one thing that we're really huge on within our locations, our studios is the community. Oh, I'm just flashing people my template.
SPEAKER_01Oh, wow.
SPEAKER_00Um introducing people to each other. That's the biggest thing that I focus on when I'm training specifically new sales staff. And again, our studios are all female. Um, as far as working the desk and also teaching right now. We've had a few men come through. But as far as the sales staff, I want them to make everyone feel welcome, feel comfortable. And it's not a sales tactic. It's just uh, I've been in situations where I've walked into fitness studios and have felt completely isolated. Like because I wasn't part of that main click, I wasn't spoken to by the staff until I made that click. And so, I mean, nothing's more intimidating. I say this all the time in all the interviews that I conduct that the most intimidating thing a person can do in our space is walk into a fitness boutique for the first time, surrounded by women, surrounded by people that have probably been doing this for a while or um maybe have been like accustomed to specific workouts. And so I just tell our sales staff, it's like, you are building relationships. Yes, our focus is sales, but biggest thing is you're building a relationship. If you know something about this woman, if she's a teacher, if she's whatever you learned over the phone with them, introduce them to another woman in the studio. Let them feel connected, let them build friendships. And that's something beautiful that we've seen in our studios is friendships built that would have never been built outside of those walls. You take all different walks of life, all different personalities. And it happens with our staff and how we train them in order to make these people feel comfortable. I mean, you can't train personality, that's one thing. And so we specifically pick these people to be part of our staff because of a personality trait and then also their work ethic, and obviously if they have experience, but I'd rather have someone that is super friendly, is able to like make conversation rather than just like a, you know, someone that's timid to talk or timid to approach someone. We want to make initiative, and that's what I urge people to do, especially with obviously we're talking about women supporting women, is take an initiative, get to know someone, support them, get to know about who they are, what makes them then. Um, I love hearing people's stories, and that's probably like I mean, one thing about me is that people will just talk and uh it'll just keep going and going. But it is cool to hear everyone's different backgrounds and um yeah, being able to build that sense of home and safety-ness for them.
SPEAKER_01You know, we've talked a lot about referring people, like ways you can actually support women, ways you can support women in, you know, a corporate setting is offering them help, like and not necessarily having your name be on it, right? Like going to the side and being like, hey, do you have this project you're working on, or like whatever it is, like I'm here to help if you need a resource, and like really just trying to like build women up, make sure people feel like valued and supported. Don't roll your eyes at me. And I know you weren't rolling your eyes at me, but I know you're rolling your eyes up, but wow. But you know managing people is hard. Are you gonna start crying?
SPEAKER_00Because it's so funny. Okay. Sorry. No, sorry.
SPEAKER_01I'm good. All right, I think we've we just this is just the universe telling us we're done on this topic. I don't even know where we're at anymore. This is a fun part of owning a business is you know, the work never ends.
SPEAKER_00Work never ends. There's always something at all hours of the day. There's true layers. All hours. Um, wow. What a time. What a time. Um, but to pivot. Pivot. Pivot, still on the same topic, but have you ever had asking you personally, like specific friends like show up for you in instances or have like hard seasons, and you've had like those people around you like champion you and help you during that process and how it made you feel, what it encouraged you to do. Talk to me.
SPEAKER_01Um, I'm like, for me, it's difficult because I don't like outwardly share when I'm having a hard time. I just internalize everything. So, like, yes, it's uh I haven't like needed a lot of that. Um, but I will say, like, especially when I was pregnant, like towards the end with Wyatt, and then you know, had Wyatt. Um, it was during tax season. My husband didn't own his own company at the time, and so he was working really late hours, wasn't home a lot, and I will say my girlfriends like definitely showed up for that. And they were, of course, they didn't know Ava then, but she would have been there. Um, yes, but they, you know, especially my friend AJ, um, she would come over a lot and just like hang out with me, and um, we would eat Golden Spoon and Golden Spoon's still around. I don't even know. But I have fun memories of those times. Their cake batter with cookie dough crumbles on top. So good. And gal. Yeah, but I I mean, whenever I've needed my friends, they've showed up, whether it's you or Kelsey or you know, Taylor or Marissa, like any of you know, Amy and Jamie, of course. Um, and I doesn't always have to be like physically there because I mean, you and Kelsey live across the country for me. And I besides Amy and Jamie, I probably see you two the most out of any of my local friends because you like we always just kind of like find a way to be there for each other. Um, and you know, I try to do like little things for my friends. Like when I know you were having a hard time, I sent you like a little um comfort. Oh, yeah. Was it a Highland cow or something? It was a Highland cow, like a little stuffy, or I'll like just door dash her flowers, send her a Panda Express gift card, you know. And um, like Kelsey, I'll randomly send like cupcakes and you know, other little gifts or just something cute. And so I try to like maintain my friendships in that are far away, like that. And then, you know, I try to be more like I think of a giver in that way of being a supportive friend. Um, I hate like Ava does, i.e., driving herself to the hospital, um, asking for like support or help from others. And I just don't really feel like I am sure I need it, but I just like refuse to say that I need it, and I just don't really like outwardly share. So um I'm also like a pretty tough person. So I just kind of I'm tough, but then I also don't let things bradle me. So I just kind of like let things kind of like roll off me. So of course, if there was something like significant in my life that was traumatic and happened, like obviously I'm sure um my friends would be there, but I just don't really give them opportunities to like need to be there, if that makes sense. Well, if you need us, we would be there by heartbeat. And there are times I felt really bad with like you being pregnant and moving and everything and being so far, and just like that I couldn't be there to like help you. And you know, I hate when you make other friends, obviously. So but I really hope you do have, you know, friends out there because you do, you know, I can be there as much as I can like remotely, but you do it's important to have people like locally around you as well. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00That's the biggest thing I've learned about being far away, is from family and friends, is that you need community no matter what, like just in the simplest things, and yeah, I I can do things, I'm very independent, I will figure things out myself, but you know, there's those instances where it's okay to, you know, call a friend, phone a friend, phone a friend, ask for help, even if it's not like physical help, just like mental, emotional just release, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and when I do need to vent about something, I I love a voice note and then I vent about it, I send it to you guys, send it to Amy Jamie, whatever. And I you know, that's kind of my therapy. It's just we're always here to champion you in all those moments. Tangent. I forgot to talk about this in my week update. Another reason why the men just irritate us. So I'm on the phone with my husband and my son, and they're camping. And I'm like, want to talk to my son. And I was asking him what my husband's doing. He's like, Oh, he's eating a Snickers bar. And I was like, Oh, okay. And then he's like, Hey, bud, you want to talk to mom? And he's like, so excited to talk to me and tell me about the fish he caught, all those things, and was like so cute. And then he like turns, I guess it wasn't on FaceTime, it was just on the normal phone, and he was like, Where'd my Snickers bar go? This the sweet little voice of a five-year-old. And Garrett goes, I thought you set it down, so I thought you were done with it. He ate it in the mean, like, ate my child's Snickers bar. My son immediately starts hysterically crying because his mean dad ate the Snickers bar, and I'm just like bewildered. I'm like, You are you cracked out? Like, in what world do you think a kid would ever voluntarily throw a Snickers bar away? And but you just he set it down to talk to me, and now you're ruining my talk with him because he's crying because you ate his Snicker bar, you fucking idiot. Like, I just so I said, I'm not I don't feel bad that you're stuck in a tin can with him screaming, and you know, you can call me back when you've made my son happy again.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So, anyways, it's just like they just don't think things through. I'm just like, really? And this is why I have stuff to vent about.
SPEAKER_00So this is why we have our woman friends to truly to be able to freely vent and never judge. Freely vent. And you know, poor sweet little boy.
SPEAKER_01Um but yeah, this is how I get my support is I voice note you guys, and then you give me support in your response is that I have to decide in my feelings. Yes, and it was indeed a stupid move on his part.
SPEAKER_00And on that too, just like friendship support is um what's great is I can uh vent to you, to uh Amy, Jamie, other friends, to of things going on personally, things in uh my marriage, and it's just like silly stuff within like the marriage. And obviously there's big things that come like when my husband was gone for long periods of time more than he is now, um, but just being able to have uh those people to you know ask me to hang out because uh I'm the type of person where I will become a hermit if I'm not asked to do things. I I will like uh take initiative, but you know, that's one thing I'm working on is taking initiative to you know ask people to hang out. But um yeah, you guys never judge our situation, you always supported it. Except for the move, except for you to me, obviously.
SPEAKER_01No, except no, but like obviously I'm sad to lose you, but like I got it, and you know, yeah, it's your husband. Got it. Absolutely, I guess. So I guess I guess.
SPEAKER_00Um but because he's gone all the time, all that my friends really have are like these stories that I tell, you know. But you guys never once judged or crying.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, are you really? Yeah. Oh Jesus.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, because I've I feel like I've been in friendships where they've judged those um the situation or my marriage, and that's not how they would do things because they don't know what they would do without their husband, and how's that gonna play when we have kids? Or what does that mean for your job? And you're like, I just make it work. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Wish I could give you a little T-Rex hug with my little T-Rex arms.
SPEAKER_00I don't like physical touch, but I don't I can't wait for that little T Rex hug. Yeah, but yeah, I love all of you and the support and the champion of just like anything I do, even with my sourdough. Trying to encourage me to stick with it and make like a little business out of it. Yeah, but you know.
SPEAKER_01I'm all about on that note, encouraging people. I've talked a lot about I'm not trying to dismiss your crying. No, please change giving you your eggs. I know. I'm just trying to like pivot trying to pivot. Um, but on that note, I like I think it's really important to have multiple sources of income. I've talked about this a lot to have, you know, a side hustle, side project. Obviously, I have that. Um, in this current day, I'm glad I still have my day job because the business isn't doing great, but that'll turn around. Um, but I love if I see someone doing something, like, I'm like, you should monetize that. So with Ava, I'm like, you should locally sell your sourdough or ship it. Like, you know, um, it doesn't have to be like, you don't need a like a storefront where you have to like pump out all this bread, but like when you get the urge, make a bunch and sell it. Like, I just I think there's a business opportunity there. She was making homemade dog treats, and I'm like, you could sell those. Oh, yeah. And I remember one of our um cutie little staff members at Santa Margarita. Also, babysits for me. She's a high school student. And um, she, if she wasn't ever available for like a specific time I needed her, she would reach out to one of her friends and like coordinate for them to babysit my kids. And I was like, and she's done it with like multiple people. And I'm like, Emily, you should be running like a babysitting service where like you just like schedule out, like you should be getting a cut of all these like jobs you're giving your friends. Yeah. Um, and I've I don't, yeah, of course she's like, I don't think she did it, but like I was like, you know, this is like you can make this a business. Like you are you have lots of connections and you're you're getting your friends' work, like you should get a little bit of a lot of fun.
SPEAKER_00She really does have a lot of connections because she's the one that has brought in like all the sales associates at that studio.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, she's literally like the sweetest little girl, and she that's everyone loves her, and she's got lots of friends, and she does. Um, you know, I and she just does it out of the goodness of her heart. But I'm just like, she could just say, sorry, I'm not available, and like I can just send for myself. But she's like, I'm not available, but like I think this person might be, are you okay with them? And like, I'll ask them, and I'm like, Yeah, girl, as long as my kids are alive at the end of the night, like I'm good. So you know. Um, but yeah, I just love like if I see someone doing something, I'm like, make money off of that, you know? Amen. Find a way to make money off of it, monetize the shit out of it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Sometimes I think I take it too far though, where I like really enjoy doing something. I'm like, oh, I can make this into a job. Like, wait, no, Eva. You need to separate things that you enjoy just for your own personal self, and then things that you can like monetize. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, that's very true. So cute. Cutie. Look at that.
SPEAKER_00Any other notes on this topic? I don't think so. I mean, we touched on in the workplace, uh, cog competition, friendship, comparisons, all that.
SPEAKER_01I would just say if you constantly compare yourself to other people, you will never be fulfilled and you will drive yourself crazy. So, and one other note on the studios is this is why I love um Purebar and our studios in particular, is we make a point we have staff members, teachers, and sales associates of all different age ranges, all different body size, like physiques. Like they they all look different. And like that's what I want is like there it doesn't have to be a comparison of like, you know, I it's we're not like working at Abercrombie in the 2000s where you had to look like a very specific way and like elitist thing. Like we say it's literally a workout for everybody because we want to create like everyone to feel just like supported and comfortable coming into the studio. And I think you can take that lesson like to your friendships, to your jobs, to like whatever is just like make people feel valued and supported and like you know, build each other up at the end of the day.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's simple. It's simple, it's so easy.
SPEAKER_01It's so easy, it's so easy, and you do nothing else, tell a friend to tell a friend, refer people, biggest win for women, truly. Word of mouth.
SPEAKER_00Word of mouth. All right. Shall we uh pivot into what we've been watching lately on the reality aspect, or should we go into sports? Let's do reality and we'll close it out with sports. Sounds great. We gotta keep the men listening all the way to the end. It's not reality, but we have yet to speak of it. Is something Katie finally watched is off campus. I have now watched it. I'm in the middle of watching it for the third time. Second time, you learn so much more.
SPEAKER_01The third time, you're just like there is nothing to learn from the show.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so here's my off-campus journey. Uh Memorial Day weekend. So this was like almost a month ago. Yeah. Taylor and AJ tried to convince me to well, Kelsey and Ava had been trying to convince me to watch it, and I was like, I don't have time right now. Like, you guys tried to make me watch Summary Turned Pretty, and it was the worst 20 minutes of my life, the first episode. And her name's Belly. Um, so I don't take show recommendations from them anymore. They also tried to make me watch Love is Blind, terrible. Like, I just they don't have good judgment. So uh so Taylor's like, no, you have to watch it. AJ talked about the whole drive up. She's on like her third or fourth time watching it too. Like, just yeah, whatever. So one night we're sitting there and they put it on. I was like, fine, I'll let you guys put it on. Within minutes, I had to turn it off. I said, I can't watch this. The acting is so bad, it's so terrible, it's so just it's just juvenile. I'm like, I it's too cringe. I can't watch these people. And then I have finally caught up on all my other reality TV programs, and it was a night where Love Island was not on. And I we had time. My husband's been gone, so we've had time. So I was like, fine, I'll give it another shot. Again, first episode, I'm like, this is so cringe. Her fucking helmet on her bike. I just the helmet is atrocious. I will say that. I finally finished it early this morning. I woke up at like 5 30. Not to finish it. I just happened to be up and yeah, Wyatt slept until like eight. So from 5 30 to 8, I finished the show. And it's not terrible. Yay. It's not terrible. I it does get better. It does. Um, I will say the character of Jules atrocious. Like, I she's too desperate to be part of the boys' club. Okay. Like, she's always around with her phone out, and I know it's she runs the famous social media account, which I'm like, why the fuck is does she live with the boys? Like, you know, find an identity outside of the boys' hockey team, okay? And she can't do that. I just she just bothers me. I don't need her commentary. I don't understand why they had to like convince her that first of all, you had to convince one person that you were in a relationship. If you haven't seen the show, this is they are in a fake relationship so that she can make this one boy she likes jealous. And because he will only like her if she's taken, I don't know, whatever. She doesn't they can't appear available or something. I'm like, yeah, all you had to do was convince this one guy, which you did almost instantly that they were together. Like, why does the social media queen of the school need to validate your relationship? Just she's your friend, she's your friend. Just tell her that you're in a fake relationship. Like so dumb. Then the fucking helmet. I can't, girl. Like, just walk at this point. Don't ride a bike. I can't take a bus. And then um don't speak to the bus. First of all, and then thirdly, why does the only people that go to the school either play hockey or are in the drama club slash want to be terrible singers? Is this all the school is is hockey and theater? I I can't. And like the theater kids and the hockey kids are just intertwined. Never would happen at a normal school. First of all, and why does every hockey player sing and play karaoke? Like, I can't. They like to have fun. There's so many potholes in how they built the school out. And I, you know, between that, the helmet and jewels, that was enough for me to write it off. But there were other good moments.
SPEAKER_00There's only so much time to build character and specific groups. There's too many groups of people that go into a college, into a school, into it's just not realistic. No, but it's fictional.
SPEAKER_01This is what drives me crazy. Fictional smut book. Um someone naming their kid Belly would never happen. So just you've lost me there instantly, you know? The helmet and the fact that she's supposed to be nerdy, but she's like the hottest girl at the school. Like, please, like, come on. You can be nerdy and hot. Right, but they frame it as like she's just a loser. And I'm like, Yeah, no, she's hot, and she's got a nice person, like you, you, you know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Anywho, um, there's my I know very few people have that perspective.
SPEAKER_01Oh, for sure, tune into season two, unless it's gonna be like Bridgerton. Didn't you say they focus on a different couple like every season or something?
SPEAKER_00I haven't read the books, but that's what I'm assuming, just based upon the videos that have been surfacing across my feed of just nothing but off-campus stuff of the Dean and Allie, and then there's Logan and another girl that's mentioned during the um one of the I don't know which part it was. It wasn't the karaoke night. It was one of the nights where they were having like a donation type thing where someone wins a date with Logan and her name is Grace. Yeah, her name is Grace, and apparently that's another book is Logan and her.
SPEAKER_01So they might lose me then because I liked Bridgerton, and then I every season focusing on a different couple and losing the couple that like you loved the last season. Yeah. And then if I didn't like like that couple, I'm like, yeah, I'm just kind of over the show at this point. So if they like do that, I do like Allie and Dean. Love Allie and Dean.
SPEAKER_00Like, who doesn't?
SPEAKER_01Apparently, I I was also multitasking when I watched the show because I just wasn't like super into it, but uh didn't even I thought Logan was in love with Hannah. So but I don't know. Dunning was cute though. Of course, they got back together. But I need to know what happens with like his hockey career, and we shall see.
SPEAKER_00You know, maybe that will be focused on in the next season, in the next book. Uh I just love Garrett Graham. The amount of videos that come across my social media page is should be researched and studied. I I need to like get outside, touch grass, and be reminded that I'm a 33-year-old with child and happily married.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Maybe also the fact that his name is the same name as my husband. Yes. I've only got room for one Garrett my life, and my husband's a lot of things. That's very sweet. I mean, he's the guy was attractive. Um, also, though, his dad was the teen dad on Reba. I don't know if anyone watched the iconic show that was Reba. Um, so then I'm like, wait, he's old now? Like, that's crazy.
SPEAKER_00It's so crazy seeing these people get older. I know he was this person.
SPEAKER_01You were like I know. I thought you were like so hot on Reba. Yeah, you're like old enough to have a college-age son, like wild.
SPEAKER_00Crazy.
SPEAKER_01Oh, off campus, so much from it, just Maverick, J Lo. Also the fact that their dorm rooms are the size of a full two-bedroom apartment. I'm like, yeah, that I was like Where is this college?
SPEAKER_00It's on the East Coast somewhere. Um, but yes, the character buildup of Dean, like in the first few episodes, you just like hate him, tool, and then he starts liking Allie, and then you bring his friend into it. Yeah. Also, people have been alluding to his friend, who's also into showtunes. Um apparently it doesn't end well. I'm scared. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01I'm a the Oh, okay. That got dark. I will say the end of the episode though, when Allie tells Dean that, you know, she hooked up with someone else, which was part of their agreement to do, and then he gets mad about it. I'm like, don't get mad at her. You guys both said you were gonna port. Well, before he knew it was that guy, like I understand why he was mad it was that guy in particular, but before he knew it was that guy, and he's like, She's like, I finished the assignment. You have to finish the assignment because now she feels bad that like she slept with someone else and he didn't. But like you guys were not exclusive. You both agreed to go do this, and then she's you're finally telling her that you actually have real feelings for her, which you didn't tell her before, and now you're getting mad at her for doing something you both agreed to, like, mm-hmm, no, red flag. Yeah, I didn't love that part, and then you know, I get I again I get why he was mad about who it was once he found out who it was, but initially he didn't know who it was, and then he was like mad at her about it, and I'm like, mm-hmm, you guys both made that agreement, and sorry, like you should have told her how you felt sooner.
SPEAKER_00Okay, yeah. Anywho, it was a beautiful, beautiful, well done book adaptation that I did not read, but I'm assuming based upon my social media scrolling, that it was very well done. Um moving on to reality TV, where shall we start? Um we did close out Summer House is like, yeah, that's probably the biggest. We closed out Summer House. I learned nothing. I hate these people. They need to get off my screen. I do not want to see any of them ever again, except for Lindsay Hubbard and Carl. Uh everyone else can just leave. Okay.
SPEAKER_01I feel like I really want Lindsay and Carl to get back together.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes. But I don't think that will happen. But Sierra I really love Sierra, but the whole Miha bringing her in, I think was just a little like below the belt for her.
SPEAKER_01I think it was below the belt. I just think it's weird that Mija's like still talking to him all the time. And like I got like it's hard to let a relationship go. But like, wouldn't that be we I don't know. Like that she spoke to him for six hours after the reunion. It was like strange. Yeah. I uh do yeah, the reunion was a little hard to watch at times just because it was actually kind of funny because of just Amanda's like stoned-out face the whole time and just getting all emotion. Um I'm now thoroughly convinced that they're in it to like stay in it because they have to be in it because they've caused so much chaos. I don't think she actually thinks this is a good idea. No, and that he's not, you know, a tool. And that he's gonna change for her. And I think Kyle like said it really well in the follow-up episode is like she needs time to be single and heal, yeah, you know, from our relationship. Like jumping straight into something with you is not healthy for her. Or maybe he said it to her. I don't remember who he said it to, but like I think he's totally right.
SPEAKER_00Like, you get out of a 10-year relationship and then you immediately jump into something with someone else, like that's especially when she was talking to Lindsay and saying, like, how she hasn't dated someone since she is like 23 or 24. Yeah. Like, no, like, God forbid, nothing will happen between my husband and I, but I met him when I was 20. The thought of like having to ever date, it just sounds miserable.
SPEAKER_01And so I would uh same thing. I've been with my husband since I was 20. And I think that you need time, you're like a whole nother person. I just don't want to be with anyone else. Like, you know, like I would just I would just love being alone for a while. Like being alone so nice sometimes. Take up a hobby, do something fun, get into sourdough. Yeah, and I think that that goes to like how broken Amanda is as a human, is like she's sad. It it is really sad. Is that, and I think Lindsay said it to her really well, like you're seeking validation from men. Like a man is like what's making you feel valued, and like you need to love yourself first, like you need to find a way to like have self-love and self-validation and like be able to stand on your own, and then you go and find someone. Like, she didn't have it with Kyle, so then she like tried to go find it with West, yeah, and immediately just not it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I too have been in that mentality before, and doesn't matter who you're with, people will always fail you. You need to be able to be okay on your own because you're never promised tomorrow, or that person is never promised tomorrow. So you need to be able to be happy to be um okay with being alone. Look at me, and yeah, I mean, I on one hand I got ideas. I know how much she loves the animals. Um, go, you know, take a walk. That was my favorite thing to do in New York was just like go outside, just take a walk. I don't know, walk along the Hudson, get a bagel, you know.
SPEAKER_01She did really go, like she had the opportunity to be like the next Ariana as far as like trajectory from a public breakup goes. Beautiful opportunities. Yeah, and now it's Sierra, and you know, Sierra's amazing, and I love her. But like when Lindsay was like, You were winning, you were winning, and you threw it all away for this guy. Like, yeah, it's just yeah, it's really wild. I so I know West isn't coming back to Summer House. I doubt Amanda's coming back. Like, I would be shook. So we'll see what happens next season. I did hear on the podcast that the production executive producer essentially told Sierra, like, it's your show now, like you are the face of in the future of Summer House. And so um good for her.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she can bring in her own people. Um yes, I feel as though these people have aged out. Lindsay, Carl, I don't think Kyle will ever age out of Summerhouse. No.
SPEAKER_01So But I think that they need to be, I think they have, and I think that in the city, which I have really enjoyed watching so far, besides Danielle, I can hate that they brought her back. Um, I think that needs to be their show. Like, as far as like Lindsay goes, I don't know why Carl's not on it, he should be on it. Um, yeah. I have some thoughts about other people on that show, but in general, I am enjoying in the city, and I think that's their vibe. It's like the valley, right? Like they age out of Vanderpump, you go to the Valley, and like let's bring fresh young people into Summer House.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But the difference with the Valley and the City, the Valley is depressing. I will not watch it. It is. These people are like, they need to not be on reality TV anymore. They need to seek help, they need to go outside and touch grass, and like I said, take a hobby outside of reality TV.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why, but I am still watching the valley, but it is not, it's not great. I do, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like, I appreciate the fact that a lot of them are mothers and showing that vulnerable side of becoming a mom and postpartum, but at the same time, like I don't want to be watching your relationship crumble in the process. And as I'm also like going on that trajectory of entering like motherhood and postpartum, like, I don't want to be seeing that on my TV, and also I don't want to be seeing like divorces happen on TV. Like, yeah, I enjoy the drama between characters, not characters, between these people, but when it comes to like crazy, crazy real life stuff where you're watching it and you're just like, I shouldn't be watching this, you know? That like iffy feeling like this seems like way too private. That's the valley for me. I do not want to watch anymore because it's like, ooh, should we even be here? Should we have cameras up right now? Probably not. So, but in the city is great. I haven't I have been putting that on in the background of things, but I do appreciate seeing Lindsay's life, her friends, her mom friends. Um Kyle, I'm not a fan of Kyle, but um his entrepreneur friends in the New York scene, you know. I just love anything New York-based because I love seeing where they go, like what restaurants they go to, what bars they go to, what parts of the city are they hanging out in, and like keeping note, like, okay, next time I'm in there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I do I do love the New York City-based shows because I love New York so much. Um to my husband's dismay, we will live there one day. Oh yeah, when I live in the lotto, I will have a pet house. Yeah, I want a brownstone in Brooklyn or in the West Village. I would go with Village. Four times more expensive.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um also Bravo, but that closed out was Rhode Island, their season finale. Chef's Kiss. That is how you bring in a new um franchise. Franchise. Like all 10 out of 10 casting. 10 out of 10 casting. Amazing. Even like Ashley I she was like a supporting character, still brought like so much just like laughter, her reaction when they were yeah, when they were in Audrey's during trivia night, and she's like yelling and like, oh my god, why are we yelling? And then like they're underneath the table and she's like covering her ears. I'm like, oh my god, this is so embarrassing.
SPEAKER_01This is your establishment. I know. Uh 10 out of 10 casting, whoever casts I showed deserves a promotion. And I can't wait for the reunion. I will say, I think Rula is, I think she knows that her husband's cheating on her. And she just doesn't want to talk about it anymore. She's she's accepting it. She's just like, this is our marriage. She's too deep. She's not gonna change, she doesn't want to hear anymore. Like, let's just stop talking about it. Her husband's a creep, spying on her, tracking her. And I know he was doing it because he didn't want us, like, he wanted to make sure he knew when she was gonna be home so that we can get his mistress out the cyborg.
SPEAKER_00Do you not have iPhones like Find My Friends? But I guess that's easy to like turn off and then.
SPEAKER_01Well, the difference with find my friends is that it's but like you are choosing to share your location with someone versus like installing a tracking device on your wife's car. You don't know that she's not she didn't agree that you don't know that wild behavior tracked.
SPEAKER_00I would go ballistic if I found out my husband. Is tracking me. I'd throw absolutely. I would go ape shit. That's one fun thing about me is I go zero to a hundred real quick. If you get me fired up, I will come and like get ready to like throw a table. I was ready to throw a hamburger at my sister's face one time. It was, I feel bad for that moment. But yesterday I had one of those moments too. I was on the side yard with my dogs, just you know, getting their yah yas out before it was bedtime. And I hear these hooligans walking on the sidewalk outside of our fence, and they like throw their ball and it hits our fence and it like shakes it. My dogs start going crazy. They do it again, and I just yell, are you fucking serious right now? And thank God my neighbors who I have not met, but they want to meet me. I'm I'm very social, but they want to meet me.
SPEAKER_01I'm just like so popular in the neighborhood. I don't have time to meet all my fans.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. I like grabbed the dogs. Hans is going crazy. Opal's freaked out because the fence was like rattling. I'm like got my elbows out, just like like coming out of my side yard. And then I see my neighbors and his kids and whole family standing out there. Probably heard me like yelling profanity at these children. Oh, wait, Ava, you need to come down. Luckily, those children did not get the full wrath of me. But let it be known, I have taken note of what they look like, and I will be ready to take a child down if needed.
SPEAKER_01Betty, you're talking about this? How did we get on this?
SPEAKER_00Going zero to a hundred real quick. And okay, that is exactly how my girl Liz I can't defend her, but she went wild. And you know what? I have that side of me too where if I see red, I see red.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I won't get in someone, maybe I will get in someone's face that close. That has yet to happen. But I like, you know, when you have those hypothetical um conversations and moments with yourself when you replay something. Yeah, that's me. Where I imagine myself like getting in someone's face and just like, you know. Yeah. I see it. I feel it. Liz did that perfectly. Joelin handled that just like with so much class. Yeah. I mean, she did get fired up and like ran after ran after Liz at one point. Um, but wow, these women, they're Alicia. Alicia.
SPEAKER_01Alicia, I love love. Bitch's love summer.
SPEAKER_00And she loves a cracker. Nonchalant about it. Even when you watch her, yeah, on Watch What Happens Live, she's just like, oh yeah, I love a cracker. And he's like, what type? She's like, just a little mini saltine. She's like so serious about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I cannot wait for the reunion.
SPEAKER_00I'm so excited for the reunion. Um yeah, I these women, yeah. I can't. They're just so unique. Look forward to season two, but yes, specifically the reunion. Um, who's your favorite? Do you have a favorite? Probably Alicia.
SPEAKER_01That's probably my favorite. Alicia. I think Liz is like a very close second. Um I think Joel. My least favorite's Rula, because A, I'm just annoyed with the whole storyline. And B, uh she wasn't there half the season because she was afraid to film, so I don't know how she's keeping her oyster shell for next year. Um, is that what they're holding? Oyster shells?
SPEAKER_00Yes. We should do a girls' trip to Rhode Island. I would love that.
SPEAKER_01I mean, allegedly Taylor's lips may be getting married there next month, so you know.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_01We thought it was what last weekend on the 13th. That was one of the rumors. I had always heard July 3rd. So, but then other people like, no, it's it's June 13th. It's a Saturday, it's the 13th, like it's her number. But I had always heard whispers of July 3rd. So we'll see. Um, anyway, I think it's time to move into our sports segment.
SPEAKER_00Yes, go sports.
SPEAKER_01We love we love sports.
SPEAKER_00We love sports. This is for my brother Joe Badot.
SPEAKER_01Joe Badot. And for his request, we will also be covering the NBA draft when that comes around. I don't know when that is, but uh who cares? Uh probably not soon because they just ended the season, yeah? Or maybe they have to do it soon.
SPEAKER_00Um thing. So, first off, okay, let's start with the Knicks. Knicks and five. Wow. Knicks and five, wow. Amazing. I was at the edge of my seat the entire night watching them. And just like Jalen Brunson said, they like to show up to the games like 20, 30 minutes late. So they showed up at 9 p.m. to the game and decided to finally hustle. And that they did. They hustled. Jalen Brunson held the team on his back, but there's so many other great characters on that.
SPEAKER_01I'm, you know I will say I'm a very bad bandwagon fan because I was very into the game before that. Very into Taylor Swift being there. And then the last game, I was so tired I fell asleep on the couch before the game ended. So I did not even watch the end of it. So my time as a Knicks fan was very short-lived. But go Knicks. Go Knicks. Um, who let the dogs out?
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um I it's what their coach says. Oh. To get them pumped up, you know.
SPEAKER_01Um that would not pump me up at all.
SPEAKER_00You know, when you're in the locker room.
SPEAKER_01It's just I can't. I'm out of my also, they have the like the most unfortunate colors, like the royal blue with the orange. Yeah, but go next.
SPEAKER_00Go next. You know, I had the privilege of not seeing Carmelo Anthony in the flesh, but I saw him driving. I was walking, this was like many moons ago. I was walking outside the garden, and there's this beautiful red car that just like comes out onto the street, and the license plate said mellow. And this homeless man knew exactly who it was because he probably that's where he's stationed on the sidewalk and sees Mellow Anthony all the time. But he just yells out, he's like, Have an SD, Mr. Anthony. It was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Because people were just like in awe of this car coming out of the garden, and then this homeless man just like in his next gear, just so proud to be a New Yoka.
SPEAKER_01I think we're not talking about the right things for our sports segment.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well we're supposed to be giving opinions on the male, the sport events.
SPEAKER_00My opinion is the right team one.
SPEAKER_01The men want to know what we think about the sports.
SPEAKER_00Basketball is done. Done. However, I'd be remiss if I did not bring up the fact that there are top prospects, number five, for the Clippers overall pick for the Clippers are never gonna be good.
SPEAKER_01I think you guys just need to accept that as a family. My my dad and my brother are Clippers fans, so I get it. Oh, they are? They're never gonna be good.
SPEAKER_00You know, they're like the angels.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_00But like being a Clipper fan, it's like being a Knicks fan. It's just like the underdog.
SPEAKER_01The dream.
SPEAKER_00The dream is there. Yes. My brother is the Timothy Chalonet of the Clippers. Oh, is he quartzied in like obnoxious outfits? He oh not in obnoxious outfits, but he has season tickets, I'm pretty sure. Uh, but he's at every game. He's on these. He goes to every game. Not aggressive. He goes to quite a few home games. Maybe he does go to every game. I don't know, bro. You can quote Joe Bidow, let us know. Yeah. You can comment. But he does, you know, know every single player. He is in these chat rooms. He does like tune into these sports YouTube things on all things clippers and writes in his feedback and reviews. You know, the internet is not giving me really anything. Uh Keaton Wagler. What who what are we talking about? Top prospects at number five for the NBA? Yeah. Number five overall pick. Um Michael Brown Jr. and Braden Burries. Burries?
SPEAKER_01Oh, does the Clippers have the number one draft pick? Is that why he wants us to talk about it?
SPEAKER_00No, he's just a huge Clippers fan. Who knows? Anyhow, that is what Google is telling me. Top prospects at number five to be continued. Moving on. An H.
SPEAKER_01We'll give live updates, not live, but a replay. Stanley Cup. Can you hear me? Yes, I can. You're just speaking over me. Fine, go.
SPEAKER_00Jesus, just take it away. Stanley Cup also happened last weekend. It was a huge weekend for sports. Huge weekend for just Americans in general. Um, North Carolina won. Um didn't even know they had a team. Yep. The Hurricanes. The Canes were short. One against the um Vegas Golden Knights. And the only reason the Canes won was because Freddie Anderson was not playing. Like I said last week, I am Freddie Anderson's number one hater. If he doesn't have any other haters in life, it is me. I am here to bring this man down.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Wow. You have very intense opinions about someone you don't know. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Sorry, Freddie. Like, thank you for getting the team that far, but you could only get that far with them. So he did not play the final two playoff the Stanley Cup games because he sucks and cost them a full game that almost got them tied. I think they were tied. Yeah, they were tied in the series at one point. And then that's when the coach being a zahedi that he is. Oh my gosh, you should look up the um hurricane coach.
SPEAKER_01You know who has like a super hot coach? Is the Rams, the LA Rams.
SPEAKER_00Oh yes, yes, yes. He is I don't know his name, but he's a cutie. Yes. Um, but yeah, this man was very cute. The coach, he took his shirt off in the locker room and held up the Stanley Cup. It was quite quite a view. But we're happy for the hurricanes. Let's go ducks. Next year we got it. Hurricanes coach. He's not like a bad looking man for his age demographic.
SPEAKER_01What are you talking about? He's not sore on the eyes. Brenda Moore?
unknownSure.
SPEAKER_01Brenda Moore? Is that his name? This man is not hot. I'm sorry. But he's not ugly, but he's he's a generic looking guy with kind of a goofy smile. I'm here to pump you. We need to wow, we need to evaluate your life choices. Um but yeah, that's it.
SPEAKER_00I'm the hockey front.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. I literally giggled at one point during the one of the last games, like before Garrett walks in to like pump up his team. Whatever the coach said was like so dumb. And I'm like, no, thank you.
SPEAKER_00Anyway. Um, moving on, FIFA's happening. I know nothing. Soccer's not like in my realm. I but I know it's happening and we respect that it's happening.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, my favorite is like the internet's response to the soccer happening, mostly like that the US even had a team that they even made it in, but I guess we only got invited because we were hosting or something. Um, I have been more interested though in the Europeans and other uh country fans. Yes, not just your everyone coming in to watch the games and their experiences in America, and especially because they are going to like random places. Like they're not, it's not I thought it was all at SoFi Stadium, but it's all across the country. And so you have like there's this drama. Uh people who traveled into the country's reactions to our country. Um, but they've fallen in love. Like they're stop. Sorry, everybody's email. So rude to me during the every time I speak today, you are not supporting women today.
SPEAKER_00You're the one typing too as I'm talking. I'm working. Well, I kind of am, I looked at something work-related, and that was my response. Everyone gets like a live visual of emails. Oh my god, I am so done with you today. Um sticking out my tongue and rolling my eyes at emails.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, whatever. She can we whatever. That's how I respond. Me typing helped us sell a membership just now.
SPEAKER_00Okay, thank you. I did see that come through. That did make me smile. Great job, everyone.
SPEAKER_01Job. But there's like, so first of all, the Scots have invaded Boston. I don't know if you did hear about this. Yes. And they're out of beer in Boston, like unheard of. Um, they're hilarious. There's this one German guy who's been traveling. He started in like Georgia or something. He's been traveling kind of like the south, following a team around or something like that, or going to different stadiums. I don't really know how it works. But he's like they're being exposed to Bucky's, to Waffle House. There is this other one. I don't know what country the guy was from, but Chinese establishments. Right. And this one guy realized he gets unlimited free refills of coke and like was just flabbergasted. No, it was that this was a different one. I don't know. They were just at like a random restaurant.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, and his friends filming him like learn that he gets to order as much coke as he wants and not have to pay for refills. Another one, the free chips and salsa on the table. Like, at like it's just like they're in love right now and the air conditioning, like everything. Um so that's all I have to contribute to FIFA.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, all that I know is that the American team is practicing near where my family lives, and then they're also staying in um the writs.
SPEAKER_01Their writs, yeah, fancy. Yeah. Um I don't like the uniforms though. The red and white stripes is just like a little much for my eyes. Huh. Anyway, well, um the color of I mean. Oh, I did hear something that it doesn't have to be striped. It could just be white or red or blue. I don't know. The stripes are just like, it's like getting rugby vibes. Um, I did hear something that if all the pieces fall into play with like who's winning, um, that we could play England on 4th of July, which is like so funny because obviously that's what the Fourth of July is about. Yeah. Um, us beating England. So anyway. Full circle. Full circle history. Are they still in it? Do we know?
SPEAKER_00I know nothing. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Well, I think no, they're playing today because Kelsey's was wearing a shortcut. She's put Jason in his American flag shirt. Yeah, that's cool. That's awesome. Talk to us about golf. This is where we're gonna end the sports segment, I promise, men. Um, so I am in this golf league with a bunch of our friends and then all these other random people that I don't even know who they are. And every major tournament, we you basically there's five categories of players. They're grouped by their rankings, and you get to pick one person from each category, and then you they get points throughout the weekend or like based on their scores or whatever. Your top three players or something count. I don't really know how it works. Um, this has been going on for years. Um, but I play every, not every major, but now I'm for sure gonna play every major, so we can talk about it and my selection criteria for these people. But I will just say that currently, so it's the US Open this weekend, which is golf, there's also a US Open of tennis, so not to be confused.
SPEAKER_00And there's one for surfing, not to all be confused.
SPEAKER_01Oh, they might want to come up with more creative names. Yeah, we gotta get more creative here, people, right? So um, there's currently 35 entries into this pool, so 35 teams. I'm in 28th place, so not doing great, but this is my team. So I go based on either their backstory or their name, if they have a fun name, I like to say. It's I don't really look at like their prospects of winning.
SPEAKER_00That's just like so us, though, too, seeing someone's name and just like having fun with it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So my first pick, who's the only player on my team doing decent, is Xander Schiffafala, because I don't even know if that's how you say his name, but I say it Shafaffala because I love the last name so much. I pick him almost every time. So Xander, you better win at some point. Okay, he probably has one, actually. I don't even know.
SPEAKER_00One would maybe say Shuffle. Shuffle?
SPEAKER_01Shafuffle? I think it's Shafaffala.
SPEAKER_00I like Shafaffala because it reminds me of like falafel. Falafel.
SPEAKER_01Um, so Xander Schaffaflay is oh, he's in second place right now, but the rest of my team sucks. So that's why I'm in almost last. I actually at this point I'm hoping he doesn't do well because if I get last place, I get my money back. Um next on my team is in so Xander Schaffafala is in second place. Next on my team is Dustin Johnson, who's in 54th place. So the reason I picked Dustin Johnson is because he has a coke problem um and a super hot wife. He's married to Wayne Grutsky's daughter. So he might not still do coke. I'm not trying to make this up, but he did go to rehab or something. And I was like, you know what? Respect. Um, but don't do drugs, kids. Next player I had never heard of, but his last name is fantastic. So he's in 68th place. Staring at that name, I was like, I hope it's this one. It's Chris Goddare up. Just the last name got her up. I can't, I can't, it's too good. He must have got bullied so much in school for that last night. Poor kid. Um, next player in 85th place is Victor Hoveland. I just it's I almost pick him every time, too. It's just so, it's such a strong Eastern European last like name that I just it stands on its own, you know? Okay. No idea what he looks like. And then my player who got cut, um, never heard of this guy either. He's in 121st place. His name is Jake Nap, and I love a nap, but he smells he smells it. He spells it K-N-A-P-P. So canap.
SPEAKER_00But I like who would have thought there's 155. Well, I mean, more than 155. There's this many golfers in the world.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, who would have guessed that? Just not in the world, in like this one tournament. Yeah. That's like just a lot of tea times. Yeah, that's like a lot of standing around. Yeah, seriously. I do want to go to the masters at one point just because my parents went and just because it's a vibe. And there's but I wouldn't go for like the whole thing. I would just go when I have a seat because you only get to sit at like certain parts. I only want to go for the merch. Yeah, the merch for sure. Um, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Same with the US Open for tennis. There's a specific drink that is sold there that I hear is quite amazing.
SPEAKER_01Um, you know what is a really good golf drink is um what's it called? It's like purple. I'm blanking on the name. Men of the internet tell me what's the purple golf drink. Google purple purple golf drink.
SPEAKER_00Oh, for the US Open for tennis, it's the honeydew strike. That's what's always trending at that event. Um the purple drink. Purple golf. That's the first thing that drink. The transfusion someone else was telling me about this, a transfusion transfusion drink. And uh just because our friends out here, golf is a big thing out here. I mean, it's big everywhere, but there's a lot of golf courses surrounding us. But they were trying to tell us about this purple drink, and we were just laughing because it's like purple drink. Um consists of two ounces of vodka, one and a half ounce of Concord grape juice, and fourth fresh lime juice, ginger ale on top, frozen grapes, or a lime wedge. You know, I just will not have anything grape flavored. It's not like terrible. It's terrible. All I can like taste in my mouth are the Flintstone vitamins, the purple one. Uh no. No, no, no. You need to hit the draft button. You get to see all my facial expressions because I work from home and I these are the expressions that come through when I am working. My eyeballs just rolling to the very back of my brain.
SPEAKER_01Um, anywho, so that is oh, what I wanted to do before we go is I just wanna, I will say, like the people in this league are pretty creative with their team names that they choose. And so I just want to give a few highlights. I have no idea who these people actually are. Um, I think maybe if I click on them, I can figure it out. But uh a couple highlights for me. I know my husband is Pickle Rick, and I think it's from some movie or something or show. I don't know. Um there's one. Oh, maybe. I don't watch that show, but I know he does. Um Balls and Holes. Love that. Who's this guy? Joe Hargett, no idea who you are, but like your team name. Um, Scotty Shambles, that's a good one. That's Scott Smith, don't know who you are either. Um, my family name in sorority was shambles. So that's a some of these are very inappropriate. I'm not gonna read them. Um, Workwives and Real Lives, obviously, is on there. Hey, represent to be chatty, that is Aunt Kathy, and you know what? She almost wins almost every time. It's freakishly crazy. But this time, to be chatty, you are in 32nd place. Way to go, Kathy. You're tied for 32nd with three other people. Um but balls and holes, I think you won it for me this time. Way to go, balls and holes. Yeah. Can I fill something with like P-H-I-L? Matt Stenson, no idea who you are. But like Phil, what's this name? Phil Phil Micholas? Phil Phil Mickelson? Yes. Thank you. Phil. I think it's Phil Mickelson. Yeah, I think so. Um, yeah, who's this guy? Is this Derek, probably? Oh yeah. Chalk me up another W. No, you're not winning again, Derek. You won last time. You're in 13th place. Um, yeah. So we'll keep you updated on names are fun.
SPEAKER_00Someone, okay. Yeah. I've never been on like a team before other than trivia and our trivia name, which the team is just my husband and I. Um, our team name is Born Again Virgins, but this time for real.
SPEAKER_01Uh Born Again Virgins. Wow.
SPEAKER_00But this time are you one?
SPEAKER_01Were you one? Were you actually a born-again virgin? Which isn't a real thing, by the way. It's literally impossible. Um that's our episode. We've got Xander Schafafila and Phil Mickelson over here just ready to tell you all about the sports going forward. Don't forget Freddie Anderson. I hate you. That's all she wrote. We will be back next week with more fun. Fun in the sun with Ava and Katie. Get ready. Get ready. Kitsiraka. Like, comment, subscribe, and remember, tell a friend. To tell a friend. Tell a friend, tell a friend.
SPEAKER_00So that's how you support one another.
SPEAKER_01And tell your friends about Pure Bar Test and Pierbo Ranch. Margaret.
SPEAKER_00I forgot to talk about Love Island. That will be next week. There's so much to talk about. Forget them all. We hate them all.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01We're done watching.
SPEAKER_00Terrible. They forgot the plot.
SPEAKER_01They forgot the plot. They forgot why they're there.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01We'll talk about it.
SPEAKER_00We'll talk about it later. Anywho's. Love y'all. Bye.
