Take a moment to quiet yourselves and prepare for community prayer.
In the name of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

As the day comes to turn in our service hours, we find ourselves thinking about what it truly means to serve the dear neighbor without distinction. At first, service hours probably felt like a requirement or something to check off a list. But along the way, hopefully, you began to see that service is more than a task; it’s an invitation to step outside of us and to meet others with compassion and humility.
Maxim 55 reminds each of us that genuine service isn’t about recognition, praise, or even the satisfaction of doing something “good.” It’s about giving freely, without expecting anything in return. The moments that stood out most during our service were often small ones—sharing a smile, listening to someone’s story, or lending a hand when no one else noticed. These moments taught us that service is not about the scale of what you do, but the spirit with which you do it.
Serving the dear neighbor without distinction means looking beyond differences, background, ability, or circumstance and recognizing the shared dignity in every person. It challenges each of us to see Christ in each person we meet and to respond with the same love and openness that we would hope to receive ourselves. Today, as we submit our service hours, we realize that true service never really ends. The hours may be recorded, but the call to serve continues—quietly, daily, and often without acknowledgment. That is what it means to serve unselfishly: to keep showing up for others simply because love asks it of us.
Here’s a short prayer for a heart of service:
Lord, grant me a heart that seeks to serve with love and humility. Let my hands be quick to help, my words gentle and kind, and my spirit willing to give without seeking reward. May I see Your face in those I serve, and find joy in doing Your will. Amen. St. Joseph, Pray for Us.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
