This Monday, we reflect on one of the Simple Maxims — short spiritual sayings rooted in the Gospel and shared by Father John Pierre Medaille, SJ. Maxim 80 says, “Don’t focus on measuring your progress. Trust grace at work in you.”

It’s easy to get caught up in constantly tracking our achievements or comparing ourselves to others. But God’s grace works quietly and powerfully within us — even when we don’t see it. This Maxim invites us to shift our focus from performance to trust, knowing that God is shaping us in His time.
Am I overly concerned with how far I’ve come, instead of trusting that God is still working within me?
Can I surrender the need to measure my growth and simply be present to what God is doing in my life today?
Let us pray: Gracious God, thank You for the quiet ways You guide us and transform us. Help us to let go of our need to see results and instead trust in Your faithful grace. Teach us to walk in patience, rooted in the knowledge that You are always with us. Amen. St. Joseph, Pray for Us.
