Wednesday's Community Prayer reflects on John 14:16.
Today's prayer is led by Jade Spears, Director of Mission Integration.
Take a moment to quiet yourselves in preparation for community prayer.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
In John chapter 14, verse 16 we read, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.”
Faith teaches that God the Father grants us free will, allowing us to make our own choices, while the Holy Spirit gently guides us toward what is right. In moments of struggle or uncertainty, we turn to God for guidance, trusting that we are not alone. Even when we make mistakes, God offers forgiveness and the opportunity to grow and choose better paths. In our lives, we are called to reflect on how we use this gift of free will. When have we made choices that required forgiveness? When have we felt guided toward what is right, even if we didn’t fully understand why?
These moments invite us to recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit working within us. During the Last Supper, Jesus asked His Apostles to trust in Him and in God, even though they were confused and afraid. He reminded them that He is the way to the Father and promised that the Holy Spirit would remain with them, even if unseen. Like the Apostles, we often face situations that challenge our understanding or test our faith. Yet we are called to trust, believing that God is guiding us through every difficulty.
Reflecting on our own experiences, we can ask: When have we been anxious or uncertain, and how did we find direction? How might our lives be different if we had not followed the path we felt led toward? Have we ever trusted in something we could not see, relying on faith alone? The Apostles’ trust in Jesus can inspire us to step forward with courage, embracing new paths with faith in God’s guidance. Through prayer, we express gratitude for each day and ask for wisdom, protection, and forgiveness. We seek the strength to make good decisions and the trust to follow God’s plan, even when it is unclear.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of this day. Guide us as we make our decisions and forgive us when we fall short. Keep us safe, lead us along the right path, and hold us in your care. Help us to trust in you fully, especially in difficult times, just as the Apostles were called to do. Grant us faith, courage, and an open heart to follow where you lead. Amen. Jesus, remember me. St. Joseph, pray for us.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
