SPEAKER_03Yeah, we uh Yeah, we uh thanks for thanks for being here today with us, man. So I want to start by saying, you know, uh our podcast, our platform is designed to deter individuals from going to prison. Um, you know, and with uh this platform, we have you know dedicated ourselves to helping individuals, helping people uh get their stories out there, uh, like yourself. And uh what this uh platform does is speak about what you want to speak about. You can leave out what you want to leave out. Uh so I want to start by, you know, uh where you from originally.
SPEAKER_04I was born in Texas, man. Moved here when I was like nine, going on 10 years old, you know what I'm saying? Moved to the city or whatever. Lived pretty much all over this joint, started out in West, lived up north of 19th Street for a minute, to the county out Derby for a little second. Uh well, I was out there for a lot for a long time, pretty much back and forth between the county and and north. Pretty much my whole time in uh MPA, man. Went back to Texas for a little bit, didn't have doing some state time out there. I've been locked up all over. So I did penitentiary time in Texas first before I came out here and did my penitentiary time out here. I got locked up there first. Well, I went back and got locked up there.
SPEAKER_03So yeah, um we gotta take a quick pause if we can. Uh like a two-second pause if we came here. Uh we gotta just fix time. We gotta second we should be right back. Y'all give us like two minutes.

SPEAKER_03We had a bit of an issue with Tells from the Jails with the uh technical side, man, on it uh on the volume, but I'm glad everybody stayed around and waited. But so we got a special guest once again. His name is Tex Sigol. He's here with us today to uh tell his story, tell his life, you know, and uh you know, speak about what he got going on. So you said that you uh originally from Texas, you said right, correct. And you moved to Philly. How old were you when you moved there?
SPEAKER_04Nine, going on 10 years old, 1997.
SPEAKER_03Okay, and coming here, you know, describe first if you can, like your household, man, coming up, man. You know, was it was your mom, dad, mom, no, no dad, dad, no mom. What was going on?
SPEAKER_04So uh when my mom moved us here from Philip from Texas or whatever, she had uh met a meta met a nigga from out that was from here, Jamaican boy that was from Philadelphia. Okay, so his mom, it was his mom, excuse me, his job had transferred him to Texas to work type shit, and that's when he bumped into my mom down there, but then his job ended up transferring back up here, and he was still with my mom. So my mom came up here seen it like that, move me and my brother out this job now. From the rip, my brother was a little older than me, and he was getting this shit from the gun bus. So she was on some shit like, oh no, he's gonna die out here. My grandmother bitching, uh send him back. You know what I'm saying? Don't send him the back. But I was a little younger, so it was just me and my mids. My mom uh ended up splitting with man cuz or whatever, and it was just me and my mom for for a hot little second and shit. Until I end up going back down sex to live with my dad to finish high school and shit. Uh, but that was later on.
SPEAKER_03So okay. And as you know, man, like uh a lot of times we come up in in in certain situations where as though we uh are raised, you know, by one parent and the other parent is is a way. Um, did it affect you not having your dad up here with you, or you know, just being up here with your mom?
SPEAKER_04Of course, man. I would I would definitely say, and I don't like to use it as no crutch, or I hate when people use it as an excuse, but I would definitely say so for me, only off the strength of I didn't have no family out here. You know what I'm saying? It was literally just me and my mom out here for the longest. It's literally just me, my mom, and my daughter out here now, like as far as blood family goes. The rest of my family still down Texas and Atlanta spread all out. You know what I'm saying? It's just us three out as far as my blood goes. So it was hard. My mom was gone a lot, doing a lot of working and shit. She the money was way better out here for her than it was in Texas. So she was never around. It was just me running around the city. I mean, nine, ten, eleven years old. So all right.
SPEAKER_03So, you know, you get a pair in Philly, man. You know, once you get to Philly, Philly is is nowhere in in size as uh Texas is. You know, Texas is is huge uh compared to Philadelphia or even well, Pennsylvania is a large state as well, but Texas is is one of the largest states. All right. And you would think that being somewhere living in Texas, that it would be a lot more opportunity, a lot more things there. So you normally a family want to stay put in a place like like that. Uh, what's the difference between Texas and uh what you what part of Texas you were staying in? Houston. Oh, Houston, Houston. So what's the difference between Houston, Houston, and the Philadelphia?
SPEAKER_04Oh, Houston and Philadelphia got a lot of similarities, I would say. But Houston, I would say the most glaring thing is it's bigger. That's first off, and of course the weather, but I would say the biggest difference is just the atmosphere. You know what I'm saying? The southern hospitality thing is is real as I remember it. Uh, we get more into the story. Y'all gonna see I ain't been home in 20 years, I ain't been back to Texas since 2006 since I got out the penitentiary. So um out there, since I got out of penitentiary out there in 2006 or whatever, but as I remember Texas and shit, it was a lot more camaraderie, the southern hospitality. It's just easier, I feel like, um, to maneuver in Texas, I would say. I mean, it's not as it's not it's not as crab in the barrel-ish as I would say Philadelphia can get from time to time.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I I well, I think Philly has like that crab in a barrel mentality a lot of times. But if Philly loves you, they love you. Yeah, they they they they love you, they they support you, man. Yeah, you know, it'll do one wonders for you. So let's talk, let's get into the you know, you know, what your first arrest was it was your first arrest here in Philly, was it in Texas? What was it?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, definitely. My first arrest was out here. I got booked out the county, I think, as a young boy, or you talking about as an adult.
SPEAKER_03Young boy.
SPEAKER_04So we talked about my first arrest out here definitely was as a young boy out in the county. I want to say, yeah, I was like 11, 12. I got booked out derby. What what exactly I was so I was supposed to be in school, I was robbing the neighbors. The neighbors uh had this little garage led shit in the back, in the back of their crib. I'm supposed to be at Penwood West somewhere. Uh I'm breaking in their shit, stealing bikes and shit. You know what I'm saying? Uh my next door neighbor though, he's so he just so happened to see me and shit. And what he's I didn't I see him see me, but I didn't know he was gonna call the cops. So I see the cops fly past and shit, and I haul ass out the alleyway. But when I come out this alleyway, it was a million cops out there chasing me and shit. But they didn't book me. Actually, they took me back to school. I was suspended from school, excuse me. I was suspended from school, and the school was like, No, and I'm saying, like, he can't come here. So that's the reason why they ended up booking me. They never charged me, and then they just took me to the station and shit. And that was my first time actually being arrested, but it wasn't no case after that. It was just yard out. I just started getting booked left every year, every year. The juvenile all the way up until uh I went through one stretch when I had went back down Texas from like 17 to I went to the penitentiary out there, so I graduated high school. I went like two years without getting locked up. I got shot in that time period though.
SPEAKER_03But you got shot. How old was you when you got shot?
SPEAKER_04I was 17.
SPEAKER_03Can you talk about that?
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah, what happened? It wasn't for me. Uh um, niggas was down sex down Houston. Niggas came through that joint shopping at my OG, and I just so happened to be out there and caught one in the leg type shit.
SPEAKER_03How old was you?
SPEAKER_04I was 17. I was on my way to school. It had um I was on my way to college at that particular time. It was the summer before I ended up going to college and shit. And um, that kind of fucked up the whole college thing for me, too, as far as basketball goes. I still end up going to college because college I end up going to the penitentiary, I got booked out of there, but that kind of fucked that whole little situation up for me down there because I was having a basketball, even I was in the street with basketball was my thing, and I had to end up getting half a ride, not a full ride, but they was willing to pay for some of it, but they really wasn't fucking with me because by the time I made it back down Texas, I didn't already caught burglaries and shit up here that's on my jacket to this day. So they was a little scared of me. My mom on some shit, like, no, you gotta go back down there, fuck with your pop. Like, I can't deal with you no more type shit. So my pop was dealing with me, you know what I'm saying? But I was a little older, and I would say 2004, 2005-ish, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. Um, Philly was just a little bit more advanced. So when I came back down, when I went back down to Texas, I was more advanced. I would say that, you know what I'm saying? Them than most my age. So I took advantage of that shit.
SPEAKER_03So, you know, Philly, right? Let's let's go back to the Philly now. No, no, I'll stick to the actual shooting incident, right? Right. 17 years old getting shot, right? Do you remember that? Like that, like what happened, or yeah, exactly what happened. Or like the first the first shot you heard, what like what happened at this point?
SPEAKER_04I've seen the whole thing. So, um, how the apartment complex is kind of built, it's built like a I would say a rectangle, but it's literally like it's supposed to be one way in and one way, it's like a one-direction thing. You gotta come through the apartments, you gotta turn this way, you gotta turn this way to get out, type thing. So, where we sitting at, we sitting at like in Texas and in the south in general, generators, apartment complexes, it's be big green generators that everybody tend to post up on, tag on shit or whatever. But we inside Palm Wood, shout out to North Houston, all my guys 5601 Hamill Road. I love y'all, I miss y'all out there, John. Shout out my OG Farrell. This was who this shit happened with. Um, we out there chilling. He had some shit going on, niggas just came through, so they in a Delta 88. They slide through that through through the little apartment complex, and as they going to go turn that first turn, me and him sitting on the generator now, his back is turned. Like he's sitting where you sitting at, but he's facing this way. I'm sitting like like like this, but I'm facing kind of this way, they coming from this way. So I seen them first, like it all happened so kind of so slow though. So when they went to go turn out the car, the nigga in behind the driver in the in the back drive, he the one that was doing all the busting. You know what I'm saying? He like he motherfucking minister society out the window with it, and he was let's start letting that shit go before I know it. My old head was gone. Now I felt the bullet hit me, but I ended up running in in between these two little parked cars right there and shit. And next thing I'm I do, I did pass out for a little second, like went blacked out for a little second, and my dad, my dad from the islands, he was just standing over me yelling and shit. They took me to the spittle and I was there.
SPEAKER_03Wow, I gotta ask, you ain't you ain't tell though. I'm not gonna do no telling. Um, because like I'm gonna keep it real because a lot of times people come up here, right? And not, you know, I'm not gonna say these certain names sometimes people come up here and they tell their stories, but they don't tell everything. Okay, and then what happens is sometimes we get DMs, emails, uh and not saying that's the case with you, but I'm just saying that's what we gotta ask.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, ain't no, you won't find you won't find no no witness or victim statements on me when it comes to that at all, bro.
SPEAKER_03The uh what he said, I mean you ain't gonna find that on him.
SPEAKER_04It wasn't even no case with that, nobody even got locked up with that, John.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah. So 17 getting shot, you know, down there with your dad and your pops. And did you ever did you catch any adult cases down there after that, or would you still more juvenile cases?
SPEAKER_04So, yeah, um, right after that, I did a year in college, um, Texas Southern University. I was down there for a year, and that should just spawned a whole little crime spree. That actually probably spawned like my first like little crime spree that I had went on down there now. Um, Texas is different, y'all. For those of y'all that's like in the streets or was in the streets at one particular time, just as far as drugs go, things is cheaper down there. And the college, the college atmosphere, like it's so much to go over. All right, so Texas Southern University, TSU, it's a black school, it's a nigga college, excuse my French, it's an HBCU, one of the oldest historically black colleges in the country. Um, but it don't take a lot to get in that joint. Like, you can just you high school diploma, G D you in that joint, you know. I'm saying so a lot of people like me from all over the country was attending this college, but they like me, you know what I'm saying? Just regular hood niggas from Sacramento, LA, DC, Dallas, and all over the place. And they bringing their homies with them. They was coming down there in flocks. There was just a bunch of hood shit going on at this college, not to mention the college itself is in third war, which is a very, very, very uh poor part of Houston, Texas, like very, very poor, very ran down, very legendary. So the area that it's in is it's some projects right across the street from from the college type shit, community home. So uh it's a lot to get into right there in this in this whole little area, and that's what and and that's what I was already into. Shit, you know what I'm saying? So sure, we start hustling, start robbing, and uh that's what I end up getting locked up for. I end up catching a robbery May of 2006, and I end up uh getting locked up down there first. I mean going to the county first and then going to uh Pam Lynch and Snape Correctional Facility, then Joe Keegan.
SPEAKER_03Wow. So you've been you've been in you've been in the county prisons in board in Philadelphia and in Texas, right? So I'm gonna ask you this: what's the difference between the two?
SPEAKER_04And like is it is any any difference one more more hostile, more rough than the other, or or or so Houston, uh 701 San Jaceno, you going to 701 San Gicendo down there, or you're going to 1301 Baker Street if you get locked up in Houston. So I was in 701 San Giacento. The gel is big as shit. You and one thing about the gel is ain't no windows in the jail. The whole time you're there, you're not gonna see no sunlight. So that's first and foremost. That's a hard task. That's first off. Second off, I was there at a unique time because the hurricane Katrina shit had just happened nine, 10 months prior to that. So when they majority of them niggas, when they when it happened in New Orleans, most of them end up coming to Houston, like a big chunk of them. And when they came, they filled the jails up instantly, too. Because Louisiana and Texas got two different laws. You catch a body in Louisiana, you be out in six months. Texas, you catch a body, your ass is about to sit in there fighting that.
SPEAKER_03Oh, so you catch a body, you can you can get a bell on the body in Louisiana.
SPEAKER_04In Louisiana, if they don't show up after three times, it's over. So they got a real life, yeah. Look at that's that was they were notorious after years.
SPEAKER_06I ain't gonna Philadelphia, yeah.
SPEAKER_03But you don't show up for three times it's over in six months, though.
SPEAKER_04They get six in Philly, they're not gonna speedball.
SPEAKER_03That's what I'm saying. Cause because no, hey you gotta wait two years. No, not for preliminary, that's trial.
SPEAKER_04But trial, and you'll be in preliminary in Philly probably no longer than a year, but they're they're drag it for as long as they can, though. If they can't, the cops not ready and shit like that. Witnesses are not ready to drag it, but they're they're gonna speedball you.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna catch you up next question. Just want to speak about that real fast. So if you catch from my understanding, right? In Philly, you catch it, you catch a homicide in Philly. Yeah, you'll get the preliminary, but the trial won't start for two years, correct? That's what I'm saying. So you still we're still talking about preliminary matter, he they said they threw it out.
SPEAKER_04They beating it at the prelims.
SPEAKER_06We ain't talking about trial.
SPEAKER_04Oh wow, they spanking those joints at prelims. They're not even six months, it's over. Witnesses come up dead all a lot in New Orleans. You just follow some. If you go back and if you listen to a lot of music and you follow some of them stories back then, you'll you'll hear a lot. And then I was down there with a lot of New Orleans people too. Um, so they used to when you went to jails with them, they was they was they was all in that jump pissed off because they thinking that it's New Orleans and. Louisiana is not like that. Texas, they're gonna hide you, but to answer your question, I would I would say that sexes was worse only because of how the jail is sectioned off. It's not like CFCF or PIC or some of these other jails on State Road where all the blocks is pretty much the same. C11 looked like C12, C22 look like C23. No, down there, they they this shit look different. You 18 and you got a robbery, you're going upstairs to the gladiator school. That's four, that's eight, that's three eight-man cages. So it's 24 of y'all on a block, eight uh three cages with eight of y'all in that zone. It's different, it's a different beast. Everybody in that zone between 15 and 21, and it's a different whole little different, and then down there too. COs up uh on state road fuck you up, but C Ros up down there, the rollers, that's what they call them, and the sheriffs the the jails is ran by rollers and sheriffs, real sheriffs. They they they they they'll do you dirty in that zone, super dirty, like treat you bad, bad, worse than I got treated upstate in PA. Like they'll do you super filthy in that county. So I would say that Harris County jail is worse, and then not only that, it's Texas, Texas is the wrong state to ever go to jail. Anybody that's watching this, don't never go to jail in Texas, y'all. Please don't do it. Why you say that? Because they will fry you. They laws is crazy down there. So I got end up being as though I was in college and shit like that, end up catching what they was called a state jail felony. A state jail felony basically is uh a mix between an M1 and a F3. So um it's a felony, but it's not like a grade felony, but you go to the penitentiary for it. Now, when you go to the penitentiary, it's flat time. You either get in between six months and two years flat. No, that's it, no parole, no probation, no nothing. So you go into the penitentiary with flat time if you catch a state jail felony. Now, this is where it gets interesting at. So after that, it goes F1, F2, F3, like everywhere else. But in Texas, the guidelines is crazy. So I think a F3 start at like one to ten, a F2 is like two to twenty, and a F1 is like five to ninety-nine years. You know what I'm saying? And that's how they sentence you down that joint.
SPEAKER_03That's a hell of a range. Five to ninety nine years.
SPEAKER_04And F1 includes aggravated assaults, all types of shit. You just seen. I don't know if y'all familiar with the little THC laws they just passed down that joint with the edibles and all that shit. They giving niggas life for weed down that joint right now.
SPEAKER_03They give you a life sentence for marijuana. Google it, bro. Google it about it.
SPEAKER_04400 grams is a F1. And they talking about like edibles and I think like vape pens and shit like that. But yeah, you get caught with over 400 grams, they consider and that's an F1, and that hold from five to 99 years. Punishable up to life in prison.
SPEAKER_03Damn, that's like um life's a little over a little more than nine ounces of marijuana.
SPEAKER_04It ain't even nothing, and that's how they getting you down that zone. So Texas just a bad zone in general. Then if you do, if you is fortunate, unfortunate enough to go to the penitentiary down there, John nigga, it ain't like the penitentiary up here. First off, it's Texas. You're gonna burn. You're gonna, it's gonna be hot. Ain't no AC in this camps. You're not gonna be in no motherfucking AC in them drones, bro. You're gonna be in that zone. Sweat, you're gonna be lucky, grateful if if you get to a camp where it's AC at. I was I was I just so happened to get sent back to Houston, right across the street from the county. It's a jail card. So they had a state jail facility called uh Top Street, aka Joe Keegan. That was one of the few jails in the state that had AC. Other than that, bro, you're gonna be a crispy turd in that drone, burning up with forever in the go. My uncle been down Huntsville, down Texas 36, 37 years. Last time he went to see the parole board, they gave that nigga a five, six year hit. Granted, he got a body, he got a vicious one, but they'll leave you down that joint.
SPEAKER_03Do they uh do the still do the chain gang drinks and all that down there?
SPEAKER_04I ain't for sure about that.
SPEAKER_03I know they do it in Florida.
SPEAKER_04I know they do it in Arizona too, but I don't I don't think I don't think they do it in Texas. Um, I don't I'm not sure though. Don't quote me.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So um you get arrested and um now. Did you do uh state time in in Texas first? State time in Texas first. All right, what happened? Oh, that was that robbery case you caught.
SPEAKER_04I called a I called a uh a theft of a person. That's what they end up naming it. Uh theft of a theft of a corpse. That shit look crazy on that. Of a corpse, yeah, it looked crazy all the all by jacket. Like, can you talk about that or no? We robbed a dick, we robbed a Mexican down there, John. Uh Mexicans is it? Most of them Mexicans is undocumented workers, so they be having their whole bankroll on them Friday, Saturday night. So they be easy targets for niggas like eight, 17, 18, 19. And that's basically what happened. I tell y'all the story. So uh I'll give y'all this story here too because I supposed to finish this story on my channel. So, long story short, it's it was this was the end of a robbery spree. You know what I'm saying? Like, I had been doing a bunch of robbing at this particular time in college and shit, too, ironically, and shit. Uh, so I go back to the north college over, uh, for the for the semester and shit. I'm waiting to move into an apartment um in South Houston and shit. Like that. It's like a little two, three-week little gap that I had. So I'm running around with the niggas that I that I was running with before I went to college. Just I went to school with and shit on the north side. Me and one of the niggas end up, me and two of the niggas end up going out on the little joks and shit to go rob robbing motherfuckers, just random niggas, just hopping out on random people, jamming them and shit. So this one bull, this one particular Mexican we went to go rob, he wasn't gone. The nigga folly chaser. So we get into them in a 94th Thunderbird. We get into this high-speed chase all through South, all through North Houston. This shit. The nigga end up going to these apartments on all the mail route. For those of y'all, my types of people that's watching this shit, uh, and that's gonna see this or whatever. And I run out of gas. So my homie, he gets out the car, he pet, he bailed my whole life in this car. I got everything in this car waiting to move into my apartment. I'm talking about my whole life is in this car. 18, 19. I haul ass. So as I'm running, I'm like, man, fuck that. I'm going back to go get my car. I go back. They done already called the cops when I get there. The cops was already there waiting and shit. So I'm trying to tell them, like, no, that wasn't me. I don't know what the fuck y'all talking. I'm trying to hop in my car and go. The cop, like, no, hold on, hold on, hold on. Fight like, come with me and shit. Put me in the back of the car. They don't cuff me up at first. I see the Mexicans telling this shit. They booked me for that shit. I end up doing six months for that one for that robbery. I got I did one month in the county. That's what I mean by the county down there, especially at that time. The jail was so the jail was so crowded in Texas at the time because the New Orleans niggas had that shit so so flooded and so packed. The judges was giving niggas three to ones and four to ones, meaning if you sentence to a year, you only got to do four months or three months and you out of here, type shit. Like they was kicking niggas out of jail because it was nowhere to put them.
SPEAKER_06I never seen you upstate with a sentence like that, though. Do that, like down there, like to a state jail. You stay in the county. You gonna stay if you got a three to one and all that you staying in the county down there, John.
SPEAKER_04Or you're gonna get a state jail felony, and they're gonna send you to a state jail, and you're just gonna do some flat time, flat six months, eight months, year and a half, and then you done with that shit, it's over with. So that's what I ended up. I was in the county, I fought this case for 31 days in them in the county jail. In them 31 days, I was in the county. I got the fuck, I had to get the fuck out of there. I got beat up by the blood, they jumped me. The guards me up, and then I got into a little race war down there, John, with the Mexicans just moving on a block after I got beat up by the guards in the bloods. I move on a block, they in the middle of a a gang war with the Mexicans down there, John. That's another thing down there, too. Mexicans, uh, salute to all the to all my Mexicans too. Um, they run that shit.
SPEAKER_03Hold on, you but you but you meant you said uh you got uh robbery of a corpse or what you said, theft of a corpse. That's what the charge is. A corpse but a corpse, exactly like a dead body, right?
SPEAKER_04Right, that's how that shit look on my jacket. So when I be seeing employers and shit, they be like, You stole the dead body when I got the camp pill, that's what they were saying. I'm like, yo, I'm like, no, it's theft of a person. We just robbed somebody and shit. I'm gonna send you the paperwork. I'm gonna send it to you so you can see it.
SPEAKER_06I'm thinking that I'm thinking that you it's a crazy choice of words to use corpse.
SPEAKER_04That's the use that's the word that they used on the paperwork.
SPEAKER_06Because corpse to me means the dead body, right?
SPEAKER_04Like, nigga, you was playing in caskets.
SPEAKER_06I want to talk about the situation that happened to you, right? Because you know, a lot of people don't really be knowing that you know they think when they go to jail, okay, it just stopped there. It don't stop there as far as violence. No, you really got to be the man that you portrayed you was before you came to jail, from my point of view. Okay, but what happened with you with the bloods, man? Like, how did how did that go there? Mike is intriguing.

SPEAKER_04I do a lot of prison stories over there, but with the bloods and shit, it really was some it was some jail politics, and this was my first time as an adult being locked up in Houston, Texas. It's foreign to me. Now, I have been living in Houston, but to me, I'm a Philadelphian at this particular time. I spent all the years that counted here. You know what I'm saying? I just went back there because I was a knucklehead out here. My mom couldn't handle the shit no more. I'm in the style of youth studies center. Glenn Mill didn't even want me. I've been in friends a few times, you know what I'm saying? All types of shit was going on around this drone. So my mom, like, man, get the fuck out of here. You know what I'm saying? So um the bloods and shit, how that particular situation first they tried to extort me. It was some it started with some commissary shit. You know what I'm saying? They tried to make me go to the store and buy him cosmetics for food type shit, and I ain't know what was going on. I wasn't doing it. Then I'm in this little eight-man cage with all bloods. I'm the only civilian. The seven of the seven other people in the bloods in here, so they eating together and all this other goofy, like if they they they got a little camaraderie. I'm civilian slum. So they ain't offering you nothing enough. So that's how it starts. I end up going to the store and shit, and I put in with them niggas, and what I got back wasn't a sufficient, you know. Exactly.
SPEAKER_06I hate that, bro. Yeah, you put two turkey logs, three mackerels, and got this little ass bull back and niggas that didn't put nothing, they all eating good, big bulls.
SPEAKER_04And I'm like, Oh, I ain't no turkey now. I get I ain't no blood, but I ain't no bitch. Yeah, y'all cheating. You know what I'm saying? So basically they they took your uh so and then they really put my shit. So one day I wake up that's later on over that night or the night after that. But I wake up in the middle of the night to go went in these eight man cages, literally no privacy. All your foods nowhere even put your shit. Everybody just got their shit lined up on the floor by the toilet. So I go by my little part where my food at it looked like a nigga took my peanut butter pause, like took my the cup of my peanut butter and just went like that to my joint and just ate the shit. Like, so I wake everybody up in that joint. Fuck that. Who ate my peanut butter in this joint? Pause, you know what I'm saying? So, and that's how it started. Um, me and a nigga end up getting so a little rumble right there in the joint. So um, the rollers they could see directly into the cage, they roll on me in there, so they can see directly in the cage, though. They cut the lights on and shit in that joint. They they like, yo, we're gonna come in because they beat you up. They're the the guards down the the rollers and the sheriffs, they beat you up in that joint, like they put their hands on, especially the young the young ones, the kids and shit. Like, they're gonna trash you in that joint. So they threaten us with that. I try to go back to sleep, but I can't sleep in this cage because I'm in here with all these niggas. They didn't stole me out my sleep, all types of shit. Oh wow. So when the so when a day room open up in the morning time, um the cages open up, but if you shut the cage, they're not gonna open it back up until like lunch or count time or some shit like that. So you're gonna either be stuck in that drone or stuck out that dorm. So they all when they in the morning time, they all ran up because it's bloods all over this dorm. So they all ran up to go tell everybody what happened. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, we fucked the ball up in that joint. When they all leave out, I shut the drone. Boom!

SPEAKER_04I'm in there asleep. I feel something fall off my face. I look, I see the like paper cup like falling off of my face, y'all. Like it hit me that like I'm on point. They done stole me out my sleep, so now everything I'm on angles in this draw. So I see it fall, I see it hit the ground. It's all types of shit on the ground. They've been throwing shit at me for a while now. Paper balls and pencils, they in the day room, they didn't got this drawing open. So I'm like, oh no, it can't happen like this. You know what I'm saying? Like, it just I just could I just couldn't do it like that. So I go back, it was three of them. Uh TG, short. Everyone, you were you locked up down there? Where you from is how what they basically gonna call you. So TG was short for Trinity Gardens, Acres Homes, and bloods is so deep down there. I'm talking about bloods is deep as shit, but they're not deeper than like the Houston, the Mexican gangs, and we'll get to that too, though. I straight up went to them, yo. I done been locked up, I've done been a line under the youth study center and shit like that. So I know the procedure when it is either gonna crash or you're gonna get treated in it. So I decided to crash, but that ain't work out too well for me, neither.

SPEAKER_04They me up, and then and then and then uh the guards came and treated me too.
SPEAKER_06So when you went to go crash, would you would you slid up on one?
SPEAKER_04There was three of them sitting under the little TV, it's like a little blind spot. That's where niggas used to get the ones at the little fees, like so. I went up right up there. Like, I don't care who threw it. Somebody gotta hand me a rumble. So the nigga who I was fighting the night before in the tape, like I ain't throw it by a rumble before the words left his mouth. I still ain't now when we was rumbling in the little in the eight-man cage. I was about to fuck, I was about to cook this ball. But they see a nigga tripping me and shit. Once I hit the ground, it's all right, man. Y'all got it. Like, I'm on that type song.
SPEAKER_03Like, they they got me stomped the yard, huh?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they go stomp. I feel it all in my feet now. Kirk Franklin, like so they got with me, you know what I'm saying? But I knew I could handle kids. I'm 18 going on 19 at this time. These niggas is 16, 15, 17. These niggas just got bodies, drama, uh, vicious highway robberies and shit like that. Like, they got a lot of like they just fighting crazy case, they certify, like, but we all in this drawing together, but they deeper than me. I'm the only nigga in there. So I'm the only nigga from around my way in Houston on this particular block. So they got the best of me there. And then when I went out there, I still a bull, they jumped me again. The guard see the whole thing this time. They actually knocked me out. So uh yeah, I got knocked out that time. They knocked me out and shit.

SPEAKER_04All you remember is throw the punch and then just wake it up and the card over top of me with some black gloves on coming, choking me the fuck out. That's how I woke up, and then they whooped my ass.

SPEAKER_04Because they whoop your ass down that drone. Ain't no, they don't care. You do anything in that county jail, you guys as they whooping your ass, especially as like a juvenile young adult. You on any of them little kid blocks, 18, 19, 20 of them youth offender blocks, they whooping your ass down that drone.
SPEAKER_06Let me ask you something, Tex. Yeah, when you got them, that was the first time in an adult jail.
SPEAKER_04First time, well, no, actually, I did get certified as a juvenile up here and went to George W. Hill first, but it was only briefly though. Okay, and they end up decertifying me and sent me to uh back to llama.
SPEAKER_06All right, so we're gonna go with damn Houston with a jail adult jail at okay. At one at what point in your bed did you wake up and say, Damn, I'm in a whole different place than society.
SPEAKER_04Let me tell y'all something. I said this before, and I say it again here to answer your question, bro. For those of y'all that never woke up in jail before, it is different, y'all. Cause you really don't know, it don't hit you right away. You still be thinking you sleep, you be hoping you sleep. Yeah, you be hoping you still sleep. Like, what the what the and then everything starts running back in your mind. So that's when it hit me. When I woke up down there with an orange jumpsuit that was bleeding through everything, the orange got the whites turning brown, got the whites turning orange, the drawers turn on, everything orange, and then they speak, they feed they down there, they feed you breakfast 2:30 in the morning, boiled egg, a little peanut butter and cracker sandwich, milk. Get up for it down there, nigga. You can't even be you can't be under your covers from the morning to the nighttime. Everything, your bed gotta be made, the door gotta be wide open. You could be sleep, but you just can't be under the covers. They catch you, they you up. This the county.
SPEAKER_03That's the county, man. So they they got rules and regulations in the county.
SPEAKER_04They was treating us down this zone, bro. So I didn't, and I didn't experience that part until I got so after the after after the guards beat me up, they took me to the hole. That's another story, too. I'm giving y'all a lot about because I ain't even supposed to tell y'all what the shit that happened in the hole. I'm supposed to get that, but they take me to the hole. I was bitch, I was bitch. I ain't never been to nothing like that before. They hold different, you hear me? This is my first time going to uh dope hole. Oh man, that shit was crazy. You hear me? They had me that shit feel like suicide watching that, George. You hear me? They got me out of there though. Sent me downstairs to uh I think it was like 6M or some shit like that. When I got to that block, it was a race war going on, but I was there with a lot of my people from my uh neighborhood in Texas and shit.
SPEAKER_03So, how long how long was you um um in the in the county for again once again?
SPEAKER_0431 days.
SPEAKER_0331 days, wow. And then you went upstate, right upstate. So, how was that for you? Like getting transferred? I mean, what happened? Like, what uh what was that day like knowing that you're going upstate the next day?
SPEAKER_04It's not like that in the county, yeah. Well it is or down there, it is and it's different. Like, you know, here they you here you kind of know three days after you go to court, you out, um, and you know when they get them coming to get you, etc. etc. There, you know, it's not the same. Uh Harris, yo, ATW, you know what I'm saying? Uh ATW T D C. ATW means authorized to to withdraw. So if it's just ATW, you wow, you're going home. But it ATW T D C you authorized to withdraw to the Texas Department of Corrections, you know what I'm saying? You going to the pen. So um when you be, it's just like Harry. When you be down in that county, you kind of know what to expect just from talking to people and just hearing people that been through that shit a little bit. So, and I knew I only had five months left to go. So, I really, really wasn't really sweating. I was more so just trying to get back to my life, you know what I'm saying? At that, because I had so much, I was in college, I had a lot of shit going on down there. I just wanted to hurry up and get back, not knowing. Um, I had spent my final days for real, for real, in Houston at that particular time. Like I said, I haven't been home since 2006.
SPEAKER_03Let me ask you a question. That's we because so the trial. So I'm assuming how was the trial for you? Like, what happened during the trial? Because you because you said it, you you gotta get sentenced to go upstate, right? Or they see your state.
SPEAKER_04I want no trial though. I took the deal. I had the fuck out of there. I had to get out of there. They tried to get me eight four. This is a funny story, too. So the the PD who I originally had down there, he was um used to be a former district attorney in the courtroom that I was in. So the original deal that they came at me with was five years probation. Give me that shit.
SPEAKER_06I need that expense, but he telling me, no, I'm not giving, I'm not letting you take that.
SPEAKER_04We actually arguing. Um, man, I wish I could show you, but like when you see your lawyer in court down there, everybody there with you. Like your lawyers is in little individual booths, and you go in the booth, and all the inmates is like in this one little cage together, and you just step up to the booth and the lawyer come to each booth and talk to them. So everybody hear everybody case type shit. So he like he telling we arguing. I'm like, I need to get out of here tomorrow. I can get out of tomorrow, I'll take that five years probation. Like, no, I'm not letting you take it. That's bad. You don't never take the first day. I'm telling you, you're gonna be right back in here, they're gonna resent it. And I'm so glad I listened to this nigga because Texas probation is terrible. Come late one time, show up one drug touch failure. Let you not be on curfew or any of that shit one time. You going to the not you going to the penitentiary? They ain't playing, they ain't giving you no chances. Giving you no chances down that draw. Let you not have that court crossing fines one time, that restitution fee, penitentiary buddy, penitentiary bail. You go, give us 18 or something like that.

SPEAKER_04We want to we want a year or bullet from you, or something like that. So I'm saying I'm so eager in a rush to get out of the jail that I want to take the probation. He's telling me, No, we're not letting you take it. So I'm like, man, I wanna go see the judge, nigga. You know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but let him know I want to take it.
SPEAKER_04It's a lady, so redhead, redhead chick, go in there and see the judge and shit. She likes, well, you should listen to your counsel, etc. etc. Like, uh, but if you want to take it, I'll give you a couple days to think about, then come back. Boom. So before I left, though, he was like, look, they offering you eight months uh state jail time. So I'm like, all right, I think about it. I went back to the county, talked to people. They was like, uh, state jail ain't that bad. You know what I'm saying? You either gonna go to Pam Lynchner, Beaumont, and or uh, or you coming back here to Houston. So I'm like, fuck it. I went back, tell them, tell them to give me six months and I take it. I already had a month in, took it, and I was out three.
SPEAKER_03That's better than taking five years probation. I probably did that too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, in hindsight, but at the time, bro, you yo, I was getting tortured in that I was getting tortured in that drone.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we forget about that part.
SPEAKER_04I was I had to get up out of that drone, bro. I was getting tortured in that drone, so it wasn't that shit was not for me. I had to get up out of there. You hear me? I had to get up out of there.
SPEAKER_03Every day was drama in there, every single day, bro.
SPEAKER_04And I'm a civilian, gang Texas is gang infested. The whole thing is gang politics, especially in the prisons.
SPEAKER_03So were they trying to convert you to a gang in there?
SPEAKER_04Like, you ain't you gotta be you're not really not supposed to even be doing that type of shit in jails, like you know what I'm saying? Down there, like they whole little code of ethics with the gang shit is just different. Like, they don't really bring home people in jail down there, like niggas don't become bloods in jail in Texas and was becoming Crips. Now, the Mexicans, that's different. They got something called Hugh Stones and Tango Blast. Them niggas is way that's a whole different like little beast, you know what I'm saying? But niggas wasn't and I wasn't into that. I I'm I'm not no gang nigga, I was Muslim then too. You know what I'm saying? So I wasn't no, I don't I don't I couldn't took that, took no oath to no other no nothing like that at the time.
SPEAKER_03So so now you so you sent you finish out your uh your six months there. What was the most crazy thing? I know you mentioned a few things. What's the most crazy thing that happened outside of what you mentioned? Well that six months you've been there.
SPEAKER_04Uh most of the crazy shit happened, I would say, in the county. When I got upstate to the penitentiary, it wasn't really that bad for the most part. Hey, we everybody was chilling because we wanted a few jails that had AC. You are gonna burn. We come so when you first leave the county, you're going to a jail that's gonna Pam Lynchner. You're gonna burn. Middle of August, July. Nigga, you about to burn up. So when we got to Joe Keegan, we like oh. Up this you get AC here and that'd be their thing. They threaten to say, Oh, you say you better pay them listen, you go sing to the whole there. So everybody pretty much is on ice. And that niggas is short. Most niggas got in two years, so it wasn't really much. Nigga got smacked with a floor brush on A dorm when I was there, but it wasn't really much that happened when I was at Joe Keegan. All that crazy shit happened in the county.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow. So the state people just trying to make it home.
SPEAKER_04Everybody was trying to get it.
SPEAKER_03Everybody got short time.
SPEAKER_04Everybody, because we all got state jail felonies. This particular jail that I'm at, when you catch a state jail felony, they got a specific jail for you to go to. Pam Lister, Joe Keegan, the top street that I mean, or Beaumont at the time. Everybody here only got between six months and two years. So we all out.
SPEAKER_03But so what jail to send to you? You got like crazy like murderers?
SPEAKER_04All over. Dominguez, Huntsville. You got Texas got Texas, Cali, Florida, and PA. Texas got a million jails, though. They send you all over that joint. Have you right by Mexico somewhere?
SPEAKER_03So uh upon your release, you know, you did you stay? So you I'm assuming you said I'm going to Philly. How long before you came here came to Philly?
SPEAKER_04A week, bro. That and I and I struggle with that shit too, bro. Like, even to this day, I still think about that little time period where I got out of jail because I didn't want to come back. You know what I'm saying? I didn't want to come back to Philadelphia at that particular time. I had too much shit going on out there that I really wasn't trying to come back. But my mom was on some shit like it's over. Like, come back. You know what I mean? My mom out here by herself. And you know, um, the college shit ain't work out for me. Cause y'all gotta think, I I got locked up right out of college. I was in college. You know what I'm saying? So she like, just come back. And I remember when I flew back, I was down there for a week, I stayed there, I stayed in Houston for one day, and then I went to Austin because that's where the majority of my people was at. And then I um I flew back up here, but I remember flying back over to Philip, coming back to Philadelphia, and you know how you when you fly into the city, be like, uh, you are now entering the greater Philadelphia area, shit like that, bro. It was the darkest cloud over the city, bro. I should you not it was it was the darkest cloud over the city, and I just all I remember. And then another thing too, I didn't tell nobody I was coming back out here, not a soul. As soon as I get to the crib, my phone starts ringing, and within hours I was back in the mix. I didn't I didn't waste no time when I old were you again? I was 19. I didn't waste no time.
SPEAKER_06But then your mom told anybody like my son on his way back.
SPEAKER_04No, I don't know how that happened, but phone just started ringing and I was right back. Niggas is picking me up in journeys from my mom crib day one, and I never looked back. I lasted, I didn't last that long. I got out. I came back out here in December 2006. I caught my first gun case May 2007, beat that August 2000. I came home like August, September 2007, and then I went up. I caught my case that I went upstairs for it, did the eight years for it, December.
SPEAKER_03All right, let's talk about that. What case was that?
SPEAKER_04Uh a little robbery spree. I'm a robbery boy, man. Like, I ain't I sell drugs, I used to, but I never even caught no gun case. It was all robberies for me. So uh down past young man, it was in my bag. Talk to Mike if you can. Oh, my bad. Down past Yunk, man, in my bag, man, just down there, just robbing shit. Them from strip clubs and niggas going in them drones, niggas coming out them drones, a few of them drones got hit. Um, and this I gotta be real mindful while I could really I like this one a little finicky because one of them drones they really was trying to fry me for, that they couldn't fry me for. It was a big situation, and I didn't do it, but they wanted me to do it because they wanted it, they wanted to put it on me because it fit all the MO of all my other robberies down there. Um, and they couldn't really nail me for that drone or whatever. And that drone was a bad draw for me. If I wouldn't, I wouldn't be talking to y'all now. But basically, yeah, a bunch of robberies down that drone. Rap purple orchid. Uh we have a few motherfuckers coming in in that drawn.

SPEAKER_04Like 69th pass yunk. Okay. Uh ball breakers, it's not ball breakers no more. Uh uh, not on duty, crazy. But it used to be a little paw pool there called called BBs and shit. Oh uh, I think it's Jerry's corners now. Uh and then it was the situation that they was trying to fry me for end up happening at a video store. You know what I'm saying? And it just so happened, I was robbing everything around that, everything around that, John, from Oasis, all that shit was getting robbed, and then the situation that happened at that video store happened all in the same time.

SPEAKER_04It's called Venus Videos. It's a it's a freaky video store. All that shit is freaky porn porn hub type shit going on there.

SPEAKER_04We was catching we was catching people going in the strip clubs, coming out the strip clubs. We was robbed one of the we robbed one of the strip clubs. It was it was a situation, you know what I'm saying? And uh, I end up going, that's when I end up getting booked for.
SPEAKER_03How did you how did you uh get court?
SPEAKER_04So I got into a high speed chase first. So what to with a whole under unrelated case. So I end up all together, they you know, you know how they all right. So um, after we burn this shit down, uh down past younger shit was burnt down. It's on the news, you know what I'm saying? My OG called me one day, he like, yo, shout out to my OG updoor right here, man. He used to tell me, like, I did it enough time to go upstate for all y'all. You ain't gotta go upstate. Now I didn't listen to him, but he called me one day, like, yo, that car y'all riding around in on the news. You know what I'm saying? It was a little 2007 Nissan versus smoker joint or whatever. He was like, That joint hot. They got that joint. They talking about all that shit that's been going on down past Young all week. So I'm like, man, I'm thinking he's lying, I'm thinking he's bullshit because he keeps trying to get me to leave that car, that particular car alone. This car was a lot of shit was going on with this well. I used to lose track of the well, it was a lot going on with this car. So the next day and shit. Um I'm telling my man at the time or whatever, I'm like, yo, uh, we in this we in a poppy store. I'm like, yo, grab the paper, see if that shit in the paper, and sure as shit, it's on the front page of the newspaper. So now I'm a little shook because I see it on the paper. I'm like, oh shit, fuck. So we didn't ventured off into a whole another part of the city. Now now we done took our talents back out west and southwest. Like, we done burnt past Young out now. We just gonna start jamming shit out there. So um, I get into we get in, we end up jamming, we end up following a nigga from 58th in Baltimore, and we end up following all the way through Fairmount Park. He was following somebody though, like some chick or something like that. So they get out the car in middle of Fairmount Park somewhere, and we jam them there. Now, I never got out the car, I was I was driving the whole time. Young boys get out, they jam them now. I don't know my way through Fairmount Park like I thought I did. I'm gonna go turn on what I believe to be a street, it's all it's a parking spot type shit. Like now I'm on the grass in Fairmount Park, you know. Try to get busy, get busy gave it nigga time to recuperate and catch up. So we come out the jump, we come out the park or whatever. Um fly down like past Gerard. I fly like past down like by Gerard, and that's where he the he alerted the cops. It was a cop already parked like Belmont and Gerard, somewhere around that area. And as we was riding past in the high speed choice, he started humping a horn at the cops to get the car's cops' attention. So he behind us and the cop behind me. I turn on style streets, I get out, I bell. My two young bulls, they bell. Boom. I shoot back across the bridge, shoot back across Belmont. I end up getting, and that's where they end up finding. I end up hind behind this little retirement home down there, John. And that's when they end up finding me and book me. But that's a whole separate related robbery. That's something totally different.

SPEAKER_04It's a poppy store down there, but at the time, well now it is. Um, it's right on Bar Belmont and not Gerard, it's on Belmont and right right when you cross Belmont.

SPEAKER_04So I go, I go to the county for that, I hit the F for that. And my folks, the young bulls, they get away. You know what I'm saying? Everybody trying to bail me out. I'm telling them, chill, I don't think it's nothing. I'm like, it's bell only 50,000, 10 five bands. So I'm like, man, this shit, this nigga ain't coming to court. You know what I'm saying? This shit over with shit. So uh he ain't come to court till later on, though. But by the it didn't matter by the time he even came to court. When the F at the time, I was at the F. So, but mind you though, I got into a hot speed chase prior to this, though. I I skipped the hot speed chase, y'all. My bad. But go back and get it. All right, go back and get it. I got it. That's how I got arrested. So that car that blue needs, the blue little Nissan Versa that I'm in, I get into a high speed chase first with that down southwest. You know what I'm saying? They chased me down Willand Avenue and shit, and I get away, right? But when I hopped out the well, I bang the wheel out on 64th and Pasco. And when I bang the wheel out, my ID slide out my pants and my ID and my wallet all in the in the world. In the wheel, cops looking for me. Two days later, you don't know, but do you know I don't know it. I'm thinking I left it at my mom's old house out in the county somewhere. You know what I'm saying? Because my mom had two cribs out there at the particular time. She moved from one to the other. I was staying at the old crib. So when I used to stay in the county, so I thought I left it there. I was looking for it for them little two days. So two days later is when we get into the other high speech chase, follow the nigga 58th of Baltimore and I get booked. So when they take me down 55th of Pine, yo, I'll never forget this young boy. Listen, I'm telling you, yo, they wasn't lying to me. The cops do a lot of lying, but they wasn't lying about that. He said, Yo, you see that door right there? That's robbery and that's shooting. I'm gonna give them your name because I already know this ain't the first thing you did. It's not the first one, the only one you did. You might as well tell us something now because I wasn't trying to tell them shit. Boom, sure as shit. About two weeks later, uh, I went to court one day, down 55th pine had a great court day. I'm nobody showed up thinking I'm about to spank this shit. Next one, Mark must be tried or some shit like that. Come back from court. Uh, I'm in the day room. You know, I'm in a black yard and shit down CFCF. Harris, yo, uh, come to the bubble. Go to the bubble, like, yo, you gotta uh go down the receiving room. So I'm thinking somebody bailed me out. I'm like, damn, somebody bailed me out. I gotta go down there for it. Like, I don't know, somebody builds you. So I'm thinking somebody bailed me. I'm like, bet, I don't say nothing to nobody. I don't grab nothing. It's because of that. I don't know what it is. Until I get my uh my discovery, and it's this big ass, dumbass, clunky ass high point nine in that joint that I never seen. When I went to when I finally took my deal was all set and nothing, and I was about to go upstate. They had a one or two on the table for that uh for that gun. I would not take it. Finally, Gerald Stony coming, they was like, listen, bro, if you don't take that joint, it's a good chance the Fizz is gonna come pick that joint up. And the Fizz was coming to pick up everybody's gun case in the county at that time, too. I'm like, fuck it. Um took a one or two for that gun that wasn't mine, it wasn't even yours, man.

SPEAKER_04I I didn't get I fought it too for now, but I was pissed off because I didn't want that gun conviction. I was beating gun cases as a young bull, so I didn't want no gun cases on my I didn't want no gun conviction for that drone, and this this one ain't mine, exactly.

That I end up doing eight years on it, and then the one or two running concurrent with the six and a half to fifteen for the gun. So I got a six and a half to fifteen for each one of them robberies and the related offenses.

Um, he came in originally with a five to ten, caught like some meaningless ass. He had a bunch of cases, but his back judge ended up hitting him and giving him a pound for one of his cases. Now, he had an attempted murder slash robbery case that he was fighting too that he already went down and got a hung jury for. So when we sell these, when we get up to Fayette or whatever, he's talking crazy in this. He used to be talking cash, cash in the cell. Yeah, this shit over. I got three years on this, I'm about to be out. You know what I'm saying? Uh, but he still got to fight this case, and he got a case outcam. So they offer him a two to four for the attempt, they're gonna drop it down to an aggravated assault and all the related offenses, and they're gonna give him an asshole of probation, run it concurrent with the five to ten that he already has. He don't take it. So when we leave, when I get shipped out Michigan, and we can get to that too, because I I got shipped out Michigan um while I was locked up out here and shit. Um, when I come back from Michigan, though, I get kicked out. And I get when I come back from Michigan though, he's back in the jail and I see him, he blows trial. They get a nigga a 15 to 30 running wild with the five to ten that he already had. Now he got a 20 to 40. You came in with a five to ten, now you got a 20 to 40. Marcelli turned LGBQT. If y'all want to find out more about this, he ended up turning gay or the gainest end up coming out of it.

So he go to the boy Queen Lex, like, yo, you know what I'm saying? You might as well leave your boyfriend because Queen Lex got dude this whole time. He was just a little side piece. Yeah, he uh he a whole in his job, you know what I'm saying? So so he Queen Lex, he go to Queen Lex, like, yo, you might as well leave your boy, come be with me. But the boy Reese, the freak boy Reese from South Philly, he takes care of Queen Lex. Tim 65, 70 bags every week. You know, he work in the kitchen, so they vicious. Ironically, the whole time I was upstate, upstate, I got into a few situations. SPEAKER_04Uh so you know, you gotta come through Greaters for Camp Hill. My home jail was Fayette, and then from there, I got shipped up Michigan. Uh, for those of y'all that don't know, 2009, 2010. Um y'all remember all the cops that was getting killed in Philadelphia around that time, 2006 to like 2000?
SPEAKER_06I was locked up around that time, one of the different parts of the country.
SPEAKER_04So um you had the John, you had the Chuck Cassidy shit up, 67th and broad, you had the boy McDonald, you had the uh Warner Kane. All right, so you had Warner Kane and uh uh Floyd that garbed up and went into the shop right on Aramingo. Uh now that was the one that that screwed us. So pause. Them them particular, when they went and did that and killed that cop, um, they on parole. So all these niggas, all these cops was getting killed. They was all all these guys, most of these guys was coming home and was on parole, was killing these cops. So it got the public to start asking, why is the Pennsylvania Department of Parole releasing all these niggas that's coming out here and killing cops? So they stopped parole, they panic, they stopped parole and they stopped pre-release, they shut it down. So when they did that, they didn't stop locking niggas up though. You know what I'm saying? They didn't stop, and they were still sending niggas upstate. So Pennsylvania had a vicious housing problem at the time. Um so they made a couple contracts with Virginia and Michigan to house some of their inmates. If you locked up on the east side of the state, you was going to VA. You locked up on the west side of the state, you was going to up Michigan. And that's how I ended up Michigan. Michigan was the most turnt gel I ever. That was the most dangerous gel I ever been to. It was the sweetest jail and the most dangerous one.

SPEAKER_04It's like a level zero gel. You get a key to your cell, you open up the door to your cell and shit. Buy your you never locked in. Ain't no bathroom in your cell, so you can just walk in and out your door, out the cell anytime you want. It's community bathroom, everybody, and then it's lifers, not no regular. This shit looks like a book like summer camp. You know what I'm saying? Vending machines and shit, all on it's like the closest thing to being in the feds in PA without being to the feds, the windows open straight up. You can literally climb out your window, go touch the gate, come back, climb back in your window. It's trees and shit, squirrels, niggas that been down 20, 30 years, they get to feed feed a squirrel and hug a tree. You know what I'm saying? But they selling all this shit to us on that we can't buy in PA, and then it was just dangerous. Um, it's weapons all over the place. They the jail wasn't designed for level four and level five inmates, shit, not even level three inmates. They wasn't designed to hold lifers and niggas with 20 to 4. My man Triss, 24 retone, 36 and 72 for a cop shooting, lifers, everybody up there spinning. Then what PA did too is me and you catch a case together. If I tell on you, they're gonna put a separation in on us. We'll never catch, we'll never cross paths unless we had court or some shit like that. But you going to Fayette, I'm going to Monohoy, good written. Uh PA ain't seen nobody paperwork up that joint. So when we got up the when we got up there, niggas was bumping into their ramping.

SPEAKER_04That means you can't you can't be housed with the regular inmates, and you gotta get off the block and go to a unit where they could protect you at. Get on, get out of here. You can't you can't live here.
SPEAKER_06So up there, you wasn't even allowed to do that. There wasn't nowhere to put you at. So dang, they would lock you in your cell.
SPEAKER_04You gotta be locked in, but ain't no bathroom in here. So you gotta come out, yeah. And that's what was going on when we first got up there. All it's Michigan guards, you know what I'm saying? So they don't know us, nigga. You from Pittsburgh, he from Harrisburg. I'm from they don't know which block each one of us was supposed to be on when we first got up there. Them blocks is big, you know what I'm saying? So niggas was just bumping traffic. Oh, my man, P up Hunters. I ain't seen him in a minute. He on one part, I'd be at my man Domeshot free dimes. I'll be at Domes cell all day smoking. We in there chilling. Damn, guard don't know we ain't supposed to I'm on a whole nother block. This was going on for a minute. So niggas was catching, they catch having problems. Like, me and you got a problem, you on three pot, I'm on one pot. We get into some shit in the yard, you know. I'm saying like, oh, all right, I'm coming to your block, and I just wait for you there. You're gonna have to come out eventually because you gotta go to the bathroom. You know what I'm saying? So that's how that shit happened. Then they had the whole North Philly versus Chester up there, which was probably one of the craziest joints I seen when I was in jail.
SPEAKER_06So that that was it was just North Philly versus Chester or Philly versus Chester?
SPEAKER_04No, North in particular, North nigga, North Philly, North Philly versus Chester, bro. And that was that would the that joint. That joint was crazy. That joint was all in the news out there. Shit, that was a crazy.

SPEAKER_04They not. Um, they was outnumbered, jail. It was just it was just outnumbered, it was like 400 to no exaggeration. It was like 400 to like, and that should tell you something. If I'm telling y'all it's like four, we in a jail, a Pennsylvania, you might as well say a Pennsylvania jail, even though we're in Michigan, it's nothing but P8 inmates in this jail. For it to be 400 people from one particular part of the city, not the city of the state, is bad. You gotta think about Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Delaware County, and all these other places where people get locked up from. So you just not in jail with Philly niggas, you locked up with jail from niggas from all. So for 400 of them to be from North Philadelphia, and the rest of y'all is spread out amongst all these other places.

So we stopped going to the movies.

Because you can get some yams, like I said, like so. Um it's an old jail, old castle, and niggas is just fucking down there, John. Like, like when when you when you when you when you coming through greater, it's the guards is the guards is fucking and you able to get some yams on a visit.
SPEAKER_03Like I don't, it's just like a known you mean like the guards is the guards mess with each other, the men mess with the women, no, and the the guards is messing with the COs.

You don't if you got a little bit of thoroughness with you, you will be able to finagle some yams down the downs down greatest. And I'm not saying from a CO, but if you can get a chick to come up there to see you, you can get some you can get some yams on a regular, and then and that's inside the wall. I end up going outside the wall where we leaving uh outside the OSU. We living outside and we leaving the jail every day, but you get visits and shit out there. We already, it's like super lakh. So that's why I end up getting my BM pregnant outside in the OSU. But it's so many people that's walking around here right now that you might not even know that you that you probably don't even think was conceived in jail. Gratify has a lot of babies in that genre, bro. The niggas that were was conceived in that.

He like, yo, you know they got some buses outside. Uh, they shipping niggas off to Michigan in the morning. I'm like, Yeah, whatever, we've been hearing that shit for months. So my cellar, he worked in the kitchen in the morning time. So usually when I wake up in the morning to offer Wooddo, and you know what I'm saying, pray and all that shit, he be gone. Uh, but this particular morning, he was still there. They so he like, yo, they've been coming to grab niggas off the block all morning. So I'm like, yes, I slide on the door, see what's going on. They end up grabbing my man Reef. He got the will too. Shout out my guy Sharif Jones, West Philly. Um they grabbed him first. And when he came back, he called me, like, yo, text. But before you could call, before I could like really get into a conversation on the sergeant or Two guards come around to my cell, like yo, slide your ID out. I'm thinking they playing because the guard boy be playing around a lot. You're like, it's gonna be all right, slide your ID out. Slide my ID out and shit. Uh they open up the little bean slot, like cuff up, you know what I'm saying? Cuff up and shit. Take me down to the unit manager office, hand me a paper. Yeah, you've been drafted to go drafted. Wow, you've been drafted to go to the Michigan uh participate in the Michigan program. It's non-optional. You will be going and etc, etc. Da da da da da da. Packed us up, took us down, commissary, uh, and shipped us off to fucking Michigan the next morning, bro. Niggas kicked and screamed, but niggas went. And then what once we got up there though? Yeah, so when we got up there, we got up there, it was already other jails up there. Avion Green and a few other jails was already up there, so they had been up there before us. But once we got up there and we seen what was going on, it's drawn wide open, they give you the key to your cell, Cinemax Showtime, HBO right in your cell and shit. Uh, the smut out out of control for all the smut balls, they got free weights and creatine, and it just it was just a different PA experience. Niggas like start writing back, yo, come up here and bring tobacco, bring that tobacco with you. So it became one of them John's. Uh niggas was trying to get up there and they start kicking niggas out eventually. Michigan, but the youngest, my bad, the youngest. I don't know how I got to that. The youngest that uh uh that I ever been at, they put me in the cell with a nigga for one night. That nigga I think he was 18. And um he was supposed to be going to Pine Grove. I was down Camp Hill.

SPEAKER_04Well, they sent all the young bulls too. So uh when I came back from Michigan, that's how I was gonna when I came back from Michigan, I went to Fayette, and then I put in for my transfer. I picked Chester, I picked Gratisford. They sent me back to Camp Hill, which is the worst jail in PA, period. But they sent me to Camp Hill and shit. Um, and when I'm at Camp Hill, everybody got to go through Camp Hill. When I'm at Camp Hill, they put a young boy in my cell, 19, 18, 19, and some shit like that. Young boys from Pittsburgh, somewhere like that. And that night that I was young boys in my cell, that's crazy. I remember that night because we was up all night smoking K2. Smoking that deuce, smoking that tune. Now, this was K2 was different. What's different? But what's different about it?

Like, what's one of the first things you think a person in society that's getting one of their family members, husband, brother back after a long step of time? I think you should not enable him coming home, let him know that this shit is hard out here, it's gonna be hard out here, and if you want to be a productive member of this society, bro, you're gonna have to work for everything that you have. And they out here running around shooting and killing and doing whatever they're doing. But when they get upstate, it's like a whole different ball game. What is some of the if you could tell us a story? Is it wasn't any story you saw we saw like a young guy come up there and just get obliterated by the system of the prison system?
SPEAKER_04I got one, and this is my this is a good friend of mine's. Uh this is my man. This was my celly. This was my guy. Shout out West Philly's own Antonio Colza. Um got a real high-profile case too. Uh Tone shot a cop back in 2007. Um, I'm not sure if y'all remember the cop Richard De Coatsworth, but he ended up shooting, he ended up getting a cop shooting for that. Um, and they sentenced him to 36 and a half to 70 to 72 years. So, well, he took a deal for 36 and a half to 72 years. So he um listen, taking some pressure from his family, from his quote unquote girlfriend at the time, and not doing his due diligence while he was in the county fighting them, fight, fighting the case, just trying to get through it. And he just got a raw deal. Pause when he when he caught caught his cop shooting, he was one of the first ones to catch a cop shooting. Then after that, a bunch of cops start getting shot. You know what I'm saying? So he was the first one to come around for court, so they're gonna make an example out of you, nigga. Oh, yeah, we got you first. All right, we ain't 36 and a half to 72. Ain't never coming off of that, nigga. You might as well go to trial and lose. So hold on. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm about it's it's it's all about to come together for me. What happened to the cop that he shot? Richard DeCottsworth. Well, the cop that he shot ended up being one of the most dirtiest cops in Philadelphia history, got locked up for scrapes and internal investigation internal affairs. Well, investigating him for all this different shit, robbery, gun case. He holding shit, gunpoint down Kensinson, all this goofy shit. Richard the Coatsworth. This is his name. He's a criminal, just like us. Criminal, but you can't be no criminal and be no cop.

Grazed the cop in his face, grazed Richard the Coast for officer, former officer, all in his shit. Cop chasing down booking. A bunch of stories had come out after all this shit, but he got locked up or whatever. Um, and everybody that was on his case. This is my this is to answer your question. Everybody that was on his case, that that cop, you get some rhythm now. So if you was if that dirty cop locked me up and now it comes out that he was doing all this dirty shit, I get to actually go back into the courts like hold on, this nigga is not credible. This quarter point official, y'all just appointed this is what he's doing. Nah, hell no, he's on my case too. So all them people's got rhythm, they all got some time back, new trials, new, except for what the guy who took that deal. Everybody that takes that deal, when you take the deal, you give up so many of your appeal rights. So in the feds, this is your appeal rights, is over with. It's a done bun. So he took the deal, he's sitting up there doing it 36 and a half to 72, and it's not been easy for my man. So now I was in the celly. Um, I wouldn't say that the penitentiary obliterated him because he's definitely up that joint hole and standing tall or whatever. But you could tell, bro, that he wanted them, he never been locked up before. This was his first arrest, a cop shooting. Damn 36 and a half years, see you. 36 years, see you. We are we are our birthday is a day apart, anniversary is a day apart. He's 12th on the 13th. It's really my man, though. Like I I this a this is a different touchy joint with me because that's my guy. I've seen him cry. You know what I mean? I didn't even cry in my arms about this shit.
