In this honest and powerful conversation, Maria and Natalie dive into a topic many women experience but few openly discuss — jealousy, competition, and betrayal among women.

Why is it that sometimes the deepest wounds come not from strangers, but from people close to us? Why can sisterhood sometimes turn into comparison, insecurity, or quiet hostility?

Maria and Natalie share personal reflections on navigating jealousy, recognizing unhealthy dynamics, and learning to discern the difference between counterfeit relationships and true, God-centered community.

This episode explores:

• Why jealousy can show up in female friendships

• How competition can disguise itself as sisterhood

• The pain of betrayal from those close to you

• Biblical insight about enemies within our own circles

• How to guard your heart without becoming hardened

• The beauty and blessing of real, life-giving community

If you’ve ever felt hurt, misunderstood, or betrayed by other women — this conversation will remind you that true sisterhood still exists. And when you find it, it’s one of God’s greatest blessings.

Because real women of God don’t compete with your calling — they celebrate it.

And sometimes, all it takes is one spark of genuine community to change everything.

Welcome back to the show. Today we're talking about something that is real, painful, and honestly not discussed enough. Jealousy, sisterhood, betrayal, and the deep blessing of true godly community. Because let's be honest, one of the hardest things is when the wounds don't come from strangers. They come from people close to you, sometimes even from your own circle, sometimes from your own household, sometimes from other women. And that can be especially painful because, as women, we are often wired for connection, community, nurture, and covering. So when that same space becomes competitive, envious, manipulative, or divisive, it cuts deep. But on the other side of that pain, there is something beautiful. Real sisterhood, real support, real community, real women of God who aren't intimidated by your calling, your voice, your beauty, your blessing, or your growth. So today, my sister Natalie and I are going there. Natalie, I feel like both of us have walked through seasons where we've experienced genuine love and genuine support, but also seasons where jealousy and insecurity showed up in ways that were painful and unexpected. When you hear the words jealousy and sisterhood, what comes to your mind first?

SPEAKER_00

So jealousy comes to mind where I had to learn that word because uh that's something that I've never dealt with before until I have experienced it myself. Um what comes to mind first is a yucky feeling in my stomach. Um sisterhood comes to mind is togetherness, unity, encouragement, believing, and being another's cheerleader. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And sometimes it's not always loud. Sometimes jealousy is subtle. It can look like distance, dishonor, passive-aggressive comments, lack of celebration, exclusion, or acting strange when God starts blessing you. It's not always someone openly attacking you, sometimes it's the inability to genuinely rejoice with you, and that reveals a lot. Because as the Bible says, rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. I think one thing that's huge for me is realizing that not every woman who smiles at you is in true sisterhood with you. Some people love proximity but not purity, some love access but not accountability. Some want connection as long as they don't feel challenged, exposed, or overshadowed.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that is so good. You know, I've actually in my lifetime and growing into a woman, I've realized that I've had to learn what a true sister is and what somebody who walks in jealousy is, and it's exactly that. It's lack of comment or subtle jabs or planting seeds of doubt. And when you find true sisterhood and those that want to encourage be your cheerleader, you know that peace of surprises all understanding is that guiding force, it is the Lord truly giving you that protective covering needed to fulfill the calling on your life. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

And I want to say this too: some of our deepest pain has come from those close to home. The Bible talks about a man's enemies being those of his own household, and while that applies broadly, I think many women understand what it feels like when the tension, betrayal, jealousy, or misunderstanding comes from people very close to them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you know, um in your family line, you know, there can be people that will get jealous, say, for when you have a baby or you get married. I've actually experienced that in my own life, and I had to walk through some pretty painful scenarios, and I didn't quite understand it because I was younger, um, and I didn't handle those situations correctly. But growing up in wisdom in the Lord, I did go back to try to repair relationships that were damaged. Um, but in my growth with the Lord, I went back to try to make things right, and not all people are growing at the same speed as you, so they don't rise up and uh they don't want the restoration that the Lord wants to bring, and sometimes those are the ones that you have to know that you leave behind so you can keep growing into God calls you to be.

SPEAKER_01

Such a good point. And also after you're hurt, the temptation is to shut down and say, I don't need anyone, I'm done with women, I'm done with friendship, I'm done with community, but that's not God's best either.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's not because we are created to walk in community and we are created to walk with a nurturing friendship, and one that iron sharpens iron. So my advice would be wait until the Lord brings you that community that you know is safe, that you know uh won't harm you, that will speak words of encouragement in life, so together you can fulfill the calling that the Lord has for you. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

Community is such a gift of God. I mean, God Himself is three and one, he is a community in himself. And let's talk about the blessing of true community. What does real, healthy, godly community look like to you, Natalie?

SPEAKER_00

First, it starts with your relationship with Jesus and his Holy Spirit, then it goes to your husband and your children, and then outside of that true community are those that the Lord brings to you and you're waiting. It it is those it's those neighbors that you serve, it is friends that are in your life, like I said, that is your cheerleader that gives you words of encouragement, that doubt is not presented, uh, or there is agendas that are not biblical. Um, I would say true community are those that are helping develop and uh disciple the calling on your life.

SPEAKER_01

Couldn't say it better. Real community celebrates you when you win, it covers you when you're weak, it corrects you in love, it prays for you behind your back instead of talking about you behind your back.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. And you know, one thing that I've noticed that the spirit of discernment is so good is you always recognize when people talk behind your back because those fruits come up when good things do happen in your life, they don't celebrate with you, they don't encourage you, they don't push you towards where the Lord is leading. But true commun community does pray for you behind your back, it does lovingly correct you when you're wrong, and it does have tough conversations where it does build you up stronger. It's not a competition, but it's a compliment.

SPEAKER_01

I also think community is such a blessing because life is too heavy to do alone. We need women who can say, I see you, I believe in what God is doing in you. I'm not competing with you, I'm standing with you.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely. I do believe that us women, the ones that were hurt in the past, the ones that are healed now, um, and still gaining healing until the day we graduate into the glory, can come together and form this unity and be able to fulfill the destiny, the calling, be there when the other sufferers walk through hard times and be able to get those hard words or lovingly correct and put on the right path um to protect one another in love.

SPEAKER_01

Natalie, what would you say to the woman listening who's been hurt by other women and is struggling to trust again?

SPEAKER_00

I would say pray for them keep your heart clean, do not allow bitterness, resentment, anger to rise at that the Lord always has something better, and the Lord always works all things together for our kids because love does all according to its purpose. And then I would say take this as a learning curve, but don't always go to a relationship with not trusting. All love always does, love always enters, uh, love never keep the record of wrong, or have love in your forefront and know that God will work it together for your good.

SPEAKER_01

That's so good. And I'll add this not every closed door is rejection. Sometimes it's protection. Sometimes God is removing counterfeit communities, so he can bring covenant communities. Sometimes he's showing you who can handle your oil and who can't.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, that is so good. We are called in covenant relationships, and I do believe if you keep that relationship with the Lord, first and foremost, you keep your relationship with your your spouse, your children first, the Lord's gonna bring exactly the people that need to be in your life. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

And we need to pray that God just protects us, protects our family, protects our relationships, and that he removes the people who are not supposed to be with us and brings in the people who are because every season of life we have the people who we need by our side walking through with us in the valley, and God knows who can go through the valley and who can't.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and I just pray for the listeners now that if you're in the valley right now, know that it is such a beautiful, refining time. The Lord is stripping away the old to bring into the new. Don't give up, don't lose hope, have love as your forefront, don't keep a record of wrong, and know that you are called, you are chosen, you are created for such a time as this.

SPEAKER_01

If you're listening today and you felt wounded by women, betrayed in close relationships, or disappointed by people you thought would be safe, I just want to remind you: God sees it all. He sees the silent tears, he sees the confusion, he sees the moments you questioned yourself, he sees the pain of being misunderstood, excluded, or opposed. But he also sees the community he has for you. The real ones, the safe ones, the women who will clap when you rise, the women who will pray when you're weak, the women who won't compete with your calling but will help protect it.

SPEAKER_00

Absolutely, and I think us all women, if you even find yourself as one that walks in jealousy or competition or accusations or whatever, know that the Lord is healing your heart. He wants to bring beauty from ashes and he wants to restore all that was lost or broken because there is a community of beautiful women that want to love, encourage, and support, and cheer you on to the destiny because together we can work make the world such a better, beautiful place. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

True community is a blessing, true sisterhood is a blessing, and it's worth thanking God for. Thank you guys for listening today. We pray this encouraged you, strengthened you, and reminded you that even after betrayal, there is still beauty and community and healing in the presence of God. Natalie, will you pray for us?

SPEAKER_00

Lord, thank you so much for this time together, Lord. I thank you for every single listener listening to you through our voice. I pray right now that whoever is struggling to trust again or whoever is struggling to want to step out in a community or step out after hurt, Lord, that you would just feel her or his mark. They would feel your loving presence, wrap your arms around them, cover them, protect them, let them know your identity, that they are called for such a time as this. Whatever the perfect people to come to their path to help restore the broken wells, but also for iron to sharpen their iron for. I thank you for all those that are listening right now. I bless them, protect them, the blood of Jesus cover them, no weapon formed against them shall prosper. Give them the spirit of discernment even more than ever, that they will recognize the foxes, they will recognize the wolves in sheep clothing, and they will recognize those that you are bringing into their life and those that you are taking out of their life because it is them, Lord. It is you who are actually calling those in and pulling those out. Lord, let them trust you in a deeper, mighty way for those that you're bringing in and pulling out in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

SPEAKER_01

Amen. Keep the faith, guard your heart, and go be the spark that lights someone else's fire. Amen.
