Welcome back to the show. Today's episode is one of strength, heartbreak, healing, and purpose. My guest is someone I deeply admire, a woman whose story carries both unimaginable loss and incredible resilience. Last year, my friend Netta experienced the tragic loss of her son. And with that kind of pain, many people would understandably stay buried under the weight of grief. But Netta has taken that brokenness and turned it into something powerful. She has channeled her pain into purpose. And now she is passionately helping others, other people become the strongest, healthiest version of themselves. And when I say she transformed herself, I mean completely from the inside out. Her discipline, her fire, her mindset, and her commitment are on another level. She is fierce. She is relentless. She is inspiring. Truly, this woman is a legend. What makes this even more meaningful is that her son was passionate about fitness and about helping other people become their best too. So in many ways, the work she is doing now carries that legacy forward with strength, love, and honor. This conversation is for anyone who has ever faced pain, loss, disappointment, or the feeling feeling that life tried to take them out. Netta is living proof that even in the aftermath of devastation, purpose can still rise. Netta, I'm so honored to have you here today. Thank you for being here.
SPEAKER_01I'm so glad to be here on a treadmill stories.
SPEAKER_00We are on the treadmill at EOS. It's 6 38 a.m. I just did her class for the first time at 5 15 a.m. It was amazing. So, Netta, I want to start here because your story is not just about fitness, it's about survival, healing, and finding purpose in the middle of pain. Would you share your testimony with us? Take us back to where you walked, to what you walked through, what God did in you through that season, and how that brokenness became the very thing that now fuels your passion to help other people transform their lives.
SPEAKER_01But with the thought of my son and what he would want for me to do to move forward and help others like the way he did. So I'm just living for him, you know, helping others, helping women transform, love themselves every day.
SPEAKER_00And Netta, I know it's hard to talk about, but can you please tell us what happened?
SPEAKER_01I cannot go into details right now because I'm still struggling. He worked with a gas company and there was an explosion. I lost my beautiful boy, 29 years old. Just like that. He was alive today at the gym in the morning, and the next day, he was gone. I can't worry.
SPEAKER_00I know, I know. Thank you, Netta, for sharing that. And I know you went through a deep dark valley, and um, when you were in your darkest season, what kept you going?
SPEAKER_01He kept me going, just you know, thinking about him, his brother, my husband, the rest of the family. You know, it's not easy waking up every morning.
SPEAKER_00So, how did grief change you from the inside out?
SPEAKER_01I don't know how, I don't even know what I'm doing, I don't know where the strength comes from, but I keep pushing through. Grief is horrible. There are different stages. I don't know what stage I'm in right now, but I keep getting up every day and putting one foot in front of the other.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So at what point did physical fitness become more than physical for you?
SPEAKER_01Because whenever I do it, I feel him there with me. He's right there all the time. He loved this, he loved the gym. One of his last words before he left this earth to his father, he said, Dad, I wish I hadn't gone to work today. I wish I had stayed at the gym. And that did it for me.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Do you feel like helping others heal and grow has become part of honoring your son's legacy? Sure. Definitely. What do you say to women who feel broken, stuck, and too far gone to rebuild?
SPEAKER_01You have to believe in yourself. You know, that starting there. Self-esteem. I'm trying to help women build that self-esteem. Believe in themselves. You know, I could go from A straight to Z or from Z straight to A. You know, like I transform myself like that. And the grief push me through. But if I can do it, I can help others do it who are struggling.
SPEAKER_00Amen. What has God shown you through pain that you never would have learned any other way? I'm still trying to figure it out, Maria, to tell you the truth.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. Yeah. For someone listening today who is carrying silent grief, what would you want them to know?
SPEAKER_01If I can do it after losing a child, struggling, suffering every day, we all can do it together. And we all can power through.
SPEAKER_00And then last question: what does true strength mean to you now?
SPEAKER_01Again, I don't know what that strength is coming from, but somewhere in his high. I guess it means a lot. Because I'm pushing through.
SPEAKER_00But I don't know, Maria. I'm trying. Netta, we love you so much, and thank you for sharing your heart today. Your story is powerful. Your strength is powerful, and the way you have chosen to carry pain on your son and turn heartbreak into purpose is something that I know is going to stay with people long after this episode ends. What you share today is a reminder that even in the deepest grief, God can still bring beauty from ashes, he can still rebuild, he can still restore, and he can still use a broken story to bring hope, healing, and transformation to others. I know there is someone listening right now who needed this exact conversation, someone who feels overwhelmed, someone who feels broken, someone who maybe thought their life could never be whole again. And through your testimony, Netta, they just heard proof that it's possible to rise again. Thank you for being honest. Thank you for being strong. Thank you for using your life to help others. And thank you for carrying your son's legacy forward in such a powerful way. To everyone listening, take this episode as a reminder that your pain does not have the final word. Your story is not over. And sometimes the very place that broke you becomes a place where God begins to build something extraordinary. We love you. We're praying for you, and we'll see you in the next episode. God bless you.
