Conor McGregor v Max Holloway: Rust v Wear
SPEAKER_00Although Connor is the older man, he's 37 and Max is 34, Max has so much more mileage on him. Max has put in close to 120 rounds in the professional MMA cage. Connor, the first and second round knockouts, Connor's only put in around 40-something rounds in there. So McGregor so Max Holloway has almost three times as much time in the cage than Connor McGregor. Will Connor McGregor be able to push Max Holloway just past his expiration date and get him out of the ring? Or will Max Holloway be able to capitalize on Connor McGregor's cage rust and uh and break right now? I feel like it's a 50-50 fight between Max and Connor. Who do you think wins this fight? Let me know in the comments. Thank you. I was wrong.
Usyk Vacates ALL the Belts! He need to call ...
SPEAKER_00Usyk did not just vacate the WBC belt, which I predicted a couple days ago. Usyk is vacating all of the belts except for the ring magazine belt, because that's not a belt that you win in the ring. It's a an a belt that the ring magazine awards to you. So Usyk is telling us that he's beyond the belts, and I agree with him. Alexander Usyk has accomplished so much in the ring. He was the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world. He had to silence all the doubters when he moved up to heavyweight. Some folks thought he would be way too small to fight as a heavyweight, but he became the undisputed world champion at that heavier weight. I'm guessing there's several reasons that Usik decided to just vacate all the three-letter belts. And that's firstly because, as I pointed out in my other video, the WBC was putting the squeeze play on him to fight Ajit Cabayel under terms that are more in Cabayel's favor, and yet Cabayel is a challenger. So why should Usik have to travel to Ajit's home nation of Germany and fight in a soccer stadium just because that's what Turkey wants? It's a little bit disrespectful to treat the undisputed champion that way. Or well Usyk is not quite undisputed, right? Because Daniel Dubois has that WBO belt that he seized from Fabio Wardle. So I guess one option would have been for Usyk to challenge Dubois again or let Dubois get in the ring with him for a third time and then snatch back that WBO belt. But I mean at this point I can understand why Usik might feel that fighting Daniel Dubois a third time just to seize another strap is a little bit redundant. Now, as far as the other belts go, I also feel it still holds true that I don't think that Usyk has the best, the most experienced negotiating team on his in his camp. His because his longtime manager, Alex Krashik, split he and Oleksander split ways just before the last Dubois fight. For reasons I guess they're probably just keeping between themselves. No need to air out your dirty laundry in public, right? But Alex was the fellow who was also uh Usyk's de facto translator. He's that fellow with the glasses that you always saw sitting next to Usyk at the press conferences, and he would translate. And then he'd always throw in his own little sense of humor and try to make sort of Shakespearean or English literary connections to whatever drama was playing out at the press conference. Nevertheless, Usyk's new team, new and revised team, I don't I just don't think they have the business acumen to negotiate for Usyk at this level of the fight game, at the world-class level. When you're dealing with huge bunny from Turkey and company, and you're also dealing with very seasoned boxing managers such as Frank Warren and all the others at the top, right? Aram, PVC, Golden Boy, and Eddie Hearn. There's there's a lot of dirty business that goes along with the business, and you have to have the experience and knowledge to know how to play your cards. And Team Usyk basically they got into the game because Usyk is the champion. They didn't become boxing managers because they were in a business person who slowly worked their way up the ranks, they just jumped on board at the top. So they just don't have that skill set. Now, finally, the reason I think that Usyk decided to just dispense with those belts is because he has said this is his one this is his final dance, his last dance, as he calls it. I guess in uh maybe in slightly in homage to the 90s Chicago Bulls and uh the great basketball coach who labeled that last season their last dance. So when a fighter announces that this is going to be their last fight, their next fight is going to be their last fight, they've already conceded mentally that they've retired. They're about to go into retirement. So I could understand why Usik doesn't want to deal with all the haggling that would be involved with title defenses. If he was still hungry to say capture another belt or remain the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, if he was really concerned about all those uh titles and accolades on his resume, then he might be willing to haggle. But if he doesn't care about the belts anymore and he just wants one final fight, then let's just get rid of these guys, let's just create a fight on our own terms. Usik has also said, very interestingly enough, that he wants his last fight to be in the US. Certainly that puts the that puts him in front of the US market. The US is the biggest market for boxing. Even though I don't feel that the US produces the best fighters at this moment for a number of reasons, for an absolute litany of reasons, this still remains the boxing capital as a nation of the world. All roads seem to lead to Las Vegas. It used to also be Madison Square Garden, but Vegas is really taken. So if Usyk wants to fight in the US and have just one more fight, I think he should give Dana a call. Can you imagine how huge that would be for Zufa boxing if they signed a one-fight deal with Oleksander Usyk, the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world? I think it could work for both parties. Of course, that would be a huge feat for Dana if he puts on a fight with Oleksander Usyk. And I think that Usyk could probably negotiate with Dana White for a one-fight deal for good money. I mean, if Connor Ben can get 15 million, I can't imagine what Oleksander Usik would commend. And I think he'd also be able to negotiate with Dana in a very reasonable way. Dana's not gonna say, hey, you gotta fight this guy, you gotta fight that guy. I think Dana's far more reasonable in terms of the actual matchmaking than any of these sanctioning bodies and promoters, because in the end, those sanctioning bodies and promoters, they all have like they all have their own interest with who they're pushing. It's basically who's paid them off to get the ranking to challenge for a title. Dana doesn't play by those rules, he makes matches that he wants to make. And if he can cut a deal with Usyk, I think that would be a great way to have Oleksander Usik's last dance. What do you guys think about that idea? Let me know your thoughts in the comments. Thank
My Saturday Sparring: A word of advice to aspiring fighters
SPEAKER_00you. Just finished up my Saturday sparring at Victory MMA. I got in seven solid rounds. I was pretty happy with that. I increased the I didn't take as many breaks as I did have in the past couple of sparring sessions. Interesting to note, head coach, what the head coach told everybody he's gonna be away for the next couple weekends, but that there the assistant coach would be present to monitor sparring. So what happens? Ten minutes before sparring is supposed to start, the assistant coach shows up and we look at eat each other and go, where is everybody? And the bottom line, you are not showing up for the coach when you show up to sparring. You are showing up for yourself. So if you want to cheat yourself, that's your business. But you should show up for sparring whether the coach is there or not. You should show up for your unboxing or MMA or combat sport class, whether the regular instructor is gonna be there or not. It doesn't matter who else is gonna show up. You need to show up. I can't remember who said it, but 85% of life is just showing up. Well, it's true for combat sport as well. Let me know your thoughts on that one in the comments. Thanks.
Moses Itauma v Filip Hrgovic
SPEAKER_00Moses Italma versus Philip Hergovich. I feel this will be a terrific test for Italma. He's now stepping in there with a real live dog who's a true top 10 contender. Hergovich also has more experience than Italma. And I feel that Hergovich has got a new lease on his heavyweight career while working with this trainer Ronnie Shields. Technically and tactically, Philip Herkovich has shown great improvement over his last three fights. So will Ronnie Shields be able to steer Philip Herkovich with a wily gang plan to outsmart Moses Itama, or will the youngster prove just too explosive and too quick for the older Philip Herkovich? How do you think this fight plays out? Let me know in the comments. Thank you.
Kamaru Usman v Dricus DuPlessis at 185
SPEAKER_00Kamaru Usman is going to move up to 185 pounds to challenge DDP. Now, Dreekis Duplice is a big 185 pounder, and he's also been seasoned in that weight division for a while. So I'm I don't know that in his first fight at 185, Kamaru wants to take on somebody who's as big and awkward as a DDP. The second question I have about Kamaru Usman is how are his knees doing? Because supposedly his knees are in very bad shape. And in order to beat somebody at a bigger weight division, I would think the smaller man who's as technical as Kamaru is, I would think he would want to make good use of his speed and agility. But if he's got compromised knees, that's gonna make it very challenging for him. So while I feel Kamaru Usman is by far the more technically skilled fighter in a matchup between himself and DDP, I'm just concerned that DDP's size and his just innate awkwardness combined with his come forward mentality might be just too much for a less than 100% Kamaru Usman. What do you guys think of this matchup? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
