Connor McGregor, why on God's Green Earth did he choose to open his fight with not only a head kick, but a flying head kick. A flying roundhouse head kick. Perhaps the most riskiest move he could have chosen to open with. That's a super risky move to throw, even if you're not coming off a five-year layoff. But even for the most proficient of kickboxers, to open with a flying kicking move just makes zero sense because in order for that kick to be successful, you must have your distance and timing perfectly down. And you're not going to have a great judgment of distance right from the opening belt. That's why most coaches tell their fighters to start with the jab or maybe get going with their teeth, simply to figure out the distance. It would have made a lot more sense to if you want to open with a kick than open with a calf kick or maybe a thigh kick. So the only logic I can think of is that Connor just figured, well, risk reward. Yes, it's risky, but if I connect with my titanium shin bone, I've scored massive, spectacular one-kick KO of Max Holloway. And I'm sure Connor was counting on that little clip of his one-kick KO of Max to go viral. But that's not really even a good risk reward calculation. That's just delusional thinking. Even the one of the best kickers I know of is Sentei Benny the Jet Erkidez, who is famous for his flying spinning back kick. He is so accurate with that kick. It's like second nature to him. I mean, he could throw that kick almost as easily as he could just walk down the street because he's practiced it so much over decades. But even Benny the Jet Erkidez would not open a fight with a flying spinning back kick. I guarantee you that. Benny the Jet Erkidez would use that spinning back kick as a closing move once he was positive he had down the distance and timing. Now, if you're not familiar with who uh Benny the Jet Urkidez is and you are an MMA fan, I do suggest you look for some of his kickboxing fights on YouTube. I'm 100% positive that Benny the Jet could have competed in what we now call mixed martial arts because he also had terrific judo throws and he studied grappling with Sensei Jean LaBelle, who is the master of pain. But back to Connor McGregor. So the only explanation I can come up with for why in the heck Connor decided he's gonna open with a flying roundhouse kick to the head is that Connor is the emperor with no clothes. In other words, he ran this brilliant game plan idea past everybody in his team, like his coaches, I suppose his training partners, and everybody went along with it. Yeah, Connor, that's a great idea. Yeah, champ, you got it. You're gonna knock him out. You'll knock him out cold with that kick. I mean, I guess Connor is just too much of a money train at this point that nobody's gonna call him on his own BS. So they went along with his delusion and probably even encouraged him. They probably didn't even push him to figure out that this was risky. Because I highly doubt Connor McGregor opened his sparring rounds with a flying head kick like that. Like because it's too risky. So he didn't want to risk doing that in any of his sparring rounds. He was just saving it for the fight. And I bet his coaches had to have gone along with that. They just said, Yeah, you know, just do this, we'll practice on the mitts, it'll be safe that way. You won't risk getting injured. Well, look what happened. Of course, he gets injured in the actual fight because, well, because it's a stupid opening move, first of all, and even if you had practiced it, it's still risky. Bottom line, if Connor McGregor has now surrounded surrounded himself with a company of yes men, then he's doomed, as far as the fight game is concerned. Because if nobody in Connor's camp is going to offer him any sound coaching advice or steer him and keep him on the rails, if all they're there for is to collect the paycheck and they want they don't want to get fired. They're too afraid to annoy Connor and get fired, so they'll just yes him to death because they want to keep that money train rolling. Well, it's not gonna serve anybody's purpose in the end because Connor needs to hear it from someone. That was just really faulty thinking, and don't do that again, you know? Train properly, spar properly, come up with a real game plan, not something that's just good for a meme if you get it. So, what do you guys think? Do you think that there's anybody in T on team Connor McGregor that can speak to him and provide some clarity and honesty? Or do you think they're all just gonna keep yesing him to death? Let me know what you think in the comments and in the fan mail. Thank you so much. Wow, Shakur Stevenson is so not well known that Dana White's production team thought he was a basketball player when he was sitting in the crowd at UFC 329. That sucks for Shakur, but I think that also gives us a little bit of perspective on where the general consciousness is at the moment. It seems to me, I mean, I hey, I'm a professional boxer, I'm a boxing fan, I love the art of boxing, but I have to admit that current culture is more interested in MMA than they are in boxing. Ryan Garcia was relegated to the background at the UFC 329 weigh-ins. Did you guys catch Ryan in the back row there on stage? He was there along with Connor Benn and Shakur Stevenson. Now, next to Ryan, maybe you noticed he had his dad, Henry, and his attorney, Lupe Valencia. But that might be the only time I've ever seen Ryan on camera where he isn't clamoring for attention or trying to create a meme or just trying to be entertaining. He was literally just the background drapery for the UFC 329 weigh-ins. So it looks like he will be fighting Connor Ben from everything that Dana White has hinted at. He told reporters at the post-fight press conference, you know, you saw them both on stage read between the lines when someone asked him, you know, is that fight gonna happen? But that's the only time I've seen Ryan Garcia on camera where he wasn't the focal point of the whole broadcast. What do you think was going through Ryan's head as he had to stand there and watch all the UFC fighters get all the love and attention from the audience? Let me know your thoughts in the comments and in the fan mail. Thank you. Gable Stevenson had a successful debut at the UFC 329 in only his fourth fight ever. He stopped Elisha Ellison early in the fight. What most impressed me about Gable was that he was able to flow very well. He put his punches together, he threw kicks and worked those into his punching combinations, and he also switched stances, which makes a lot of sense for a wrestler to be able to do that. If he is, in fact, right-handed, he would want to stand an orthodox stance for the striking, but then be able to switch so he could shoot in with his dominant hand, meaning his right hand forward. But overall, I was super impressed with Gable Stevenson's striking because of the output and the tempo and the fluidity with which he threw his combos. The only little point of criticism I have is that sometimes he overshoots with his reverse punch, so he should come back with a hook or something on the opposite side to bring him back to his proper fighting stance. And also so somebody else can't counter him if he misses with that reverse punch. So what do you guys think? Do you think Gable Stevenson is the new face of the heavyweight division in the UFC? Let me know what you think in the comments and fan mail. Thank you.
