My Go‑To Natural Treatments for Better Skin and Slower Aging
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Your skin can’t out-perform your biology, and that’s the most freeing anti-aging truth we’ve learned. We get real about what actually improves skin quality and what just creates noise, then we lay out a practical path to look more refreshed without chasing trends or gambling on hype.
Marissa breaks down her favorite in-office treatments for natural-looking results, starting with microneedling and chemical peels. We talk timing, numbing, downtime, and why newer microneedling approaches often don’t need to be overly aggressive to trigger meaningful collagen stimulation. From there, we zoom out into what “collagen-building” really means, how professional guidance changes outcomes, and when a more advanced option like an ablative CO2 laser can be the right call for deep wrinkles or acne scarring, while still not being safe or necessary for everyone.
We also tackle a common misconception about collagen supplements and why “taking collagen” isn’t the same thing as building collagen in your skin. Then we connect the dots to skin barrier repair, visible inflammation, and why some concerns keep returning when the root cause is internal. We wrap with at-home anti-aging tools that are surprisingly powerful when used consistently, including LED light therapy, gua sha, lymphatic drainage, and lifestyle habits that support detox pathways and long-term longevity.
If you want clearer, firmer, calmer skin with a plan you can stick to, press play, share this with a friend who loves skincare, and subscribe. After you listen, what’s one habit you’re willing to do daily for the next 30 days?

SPEAKER_02If you want naturally radiant, resilient skin, the most effective treatments are not always the trendiest. They're the ones that work with your biology, not against it. Today we break down the treatments that truly elevate skin quality from the inside out. Welcome. I'm Julie Schwenzer, co-host and producer with the awesome Marissa Parchman, the founder of Timeless Skin and Wellness. Marissa, we hope you're feeling well today.
SPEAKER_01Hi, yes, I'm feeling great today, Julie. It's nice to see you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's great to see you. I can't wait to hear what clients ask you about constantly. What that, you know, we're guessing. So what are your favorite treatments for improving skin quality and slowing the aging process naturally?
Top Treatments For Skin Quality
SPEAKER_01Yes, what a great question. I actually have a lot of favorite treatments. There are so many things out there. I have added things, removed things from my practice over the years. And um, there are a few things that I love that we don't offer. And when it comes to my absolute favorite treatments, um the first two would have to be microneedol and chemical peel. I think those would be my absolute favorite treatments. Microneedol, it's universal. It's safe for all skin types, it delivers dramatic treatments. It was really revolutionary in the aesthetics industry. Um it's not been around very long. And it's fairly safe. It's not a lot of downtime. We once were doing microneedles on a much deeper level than we are now. Um, studies have shown and results over time have shown that you don't have to go as aggressive as we once thought you did to get the results that we really, really want. So often, especially if you're consistent, you can do a fairly light microneedle treatment, and that's gonna rejuvenate all the surface cells. It just takes a little tiny needle and creates a pinpoint controlled wound all over the area that's being treated, and that's gonna activate the body's natural healing response, shed all those dead skin cells, and replace it with new fresh skin and collagen.
SPEAKER_02How long can those sessions take? Are they pretty quick?
SPEAKER_01We numb most of the time for those treatments. So you're gonna sit for about 30 minutes with numbing cream, and then yeah, the treatment's fairly quick. I would say less than 30 minutes, probably 15 minutes with the needles on the skin for a full face treatment. So you can do it pretty quick and efficiently. And then downtime varies depending on the person. If you're struggling with some more intense concerns, like really bad acne scars, we're gonna try to go a lot more aggressive than somebody who doesn't have acne scars or somebody who has um much less concerns that they're trying to address. So depending on the severity of what we're treating, we like to tell people give yourself a full week of recovery, but it's not gonna be intense recovery. You're gonna be able to put a little makeup on. Um, you're gonna be able to go out for a walk with, you know, your hat on, and you're just gonna look like you had a little bit of a sunburn, and that skin's gonna exfoliate and kind of peel off over the course of five to seven days.
Collagen Stimulation And Supplements
SPEAKER_02Okay. And, you know, in previous episodes too, you've mentioned collagen stimulation. What are your thoughts about some of the collagen-based treatments and um how do they provide like a good foundation for the overall look of somebody?
SPEAKER_01Treatments or supplements?
SPEAKER_02Oh, both.
SPEAKER_01So treatments, really, anytime you're doing a treatment, the goal is to stimulate collagen. There's a lot of ways you can damage the skin. So if you're damaging the skin with needles, a microneedle treatment, that's going to be a lot more surface level than if you're using like an ablative CO2 laser. So treatments are so important. There's things that you can do at home that are going to stimulate collagen, like your chemical peel pads, your retinol, which is also very important. But when it comes to the significance of collagen stimulation treatments in an office, you're getting our expertise, you're getting the professional devices, you're getting our post-care, you're getting our guidance. So it really is significant to be doing these collagen-stimulating treatments consistently. Um, and again, depending on how aggressive of a treatment we're doing, that kind of depends on how often we're gonna want to see you in our clinic. Um, supplements, on the other hand, the collagen supplements I think are great. There's so many different companies, so many different formulations. Um, what it comes down to is does collagen actually, does ingesting collagen actually result to new collagen in the skin? And studies say no. So does that mean that the collagen stimulation supplements are not produced producing collagen? No, that's not what it means. I think you just have to find a company that you trust that has a lot of high-quality ingredients and other ingredients that are going to work with the collagen itself to help your body stimulate new collagen.
Microneedling Versus CO2 Laser
SPEAKER_02And then going back to the microneedling, how do you decide that someone needs that versus maybe something possibly more advanced?
SPEAKER_01You know, microneedling is remarkable. It can deliver such amazing results with again not using super, super aggressive treatments, but you have to be more consistent. Um, I love ablative lasers. And when it comes to aggressiveness of the treatment, I think it often comes down to what the client's willing to deal with as far as pain and recovery. A lot of people are kind of hesitant to do an ablative CO2 laser. Um, but the fact of the matter is it's gonna stimulate the most collagen. It's going to have collagen stimulation for the longest time post-treatment. And it is just the best treatment out there for collagen stimulation. However, when you're using an aggressive light device like that, it's not safe for all skid types. So not always necessary. So just depending on often really bad acne scars and really uh strong signs of aging, like deep wrinkles, much more mature clients, those clients are going to require a more aggressive treatment plan always than somebody that's much more youthful, somebody under the age of 30 often is not doing a CO2 laser unless they have acne scars.
SPEAKER_02And
Skin Barrier Health And Inflammation
SPEAKER_02before you mention to skin barrier health, what exactly does that mean? And then how do you support barrier repair?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so our skin barrier is literally like the outside of your skin. It's our biggest organ. It is detoxing all the time. So a compromised skin barrier in my clinic and from my perspective means that the system inside is compromised to a level that it's showing outside on the skin. So a compromised barrier is your skin showing signs of inflammation, really, in one way or another. You know, even psoriasis is a very compromised skin barrier, but we're often looking at a compromised skin barrier on the surface. I sometimes will say it looks like you can pop it with a pin. And I often will have clients who historically were on Accutane. And when I say historically, I mean some of them 20 years ago. And Accutane is going to prevent the body from producing pimples. And that's a severe sign of inflammation that is completely being masked and band-aid, put right on top of it when you do Accutane. The root cause is not being addressed in any capacity. So often those clients they look like you could just pop them with a pin. You look at them and you're like, there's their skin barrier is compromised. The surface is kind of inflamed, it's kind of like puffy. It almost looks like you can touch it and see like inflammation everywhere. It's a little sensitive, it's a little tender. And there's an interesting correlation with clients who look like that and have been on Accutane in the past. So it's like they still have this interesting inflammation going on. It's just not coming out in blemishes anymore.
SPEAKER_02And
LED Light And Daily Lymph Support
SPEAKER_02if we could go back to the light-based therapies that you mentioned, how do you like those overall as a natural aging, um, anti-aging, sorry, strategy?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, light devices are amazing. When it comes to at-home devices like the LED lights, as long as you're getting the proper wavelength, studies show that those are so significant in reversing cellular damage. So it's literally going to penetrate an individual little cell and repair it from the inside out. So at home light therapies, I tell everybody, everybody says, do they work? Yes, they work. You have to do them every day. If somebody says, does guasha, the massage, work? Yes, that works. You have to do it every day. You know, if you do something very inconsistently, you're, yeah, oh, I've tried that. Have you tried it once? Because I've tried everything once, but have I consistently done guasha every single day for several weeks? Absolutely. And what do I notice? I notice that things look a little more lifted. I notice things look a little more tight. I notice things look less puffy or stimulating our adrenal function. We have just thousands of lymph nodes all over our body that are always detoxing. And some of the more significant ones were are, you know, we're all aware of. You know, you want to push up, you want to push out towards this lymph node and doing these motions constantly. It's like getting a lymphatic drainage massage every morning when you wake up. Is this something I practice every day? No, now that I'm talking about it, I'm like, God, why am I not doing this every single day? Um, but things like that, absolutely. It's all about stimulation. It's all about being in tune with our body. And when you understand the significance of taking care of your body and treating your body like a temple and supporting our body's detox pathways and that being a number one thought and priority in our lives, then yeah, think about it. These are these treatments, lights are going to reverse cellular damage from the inside out. Saunas are going to do the same. Um, lymphatic drainage is going to literally help move the toxins through our system. Like, why wouldn't we all be wanting to do all of these things on a daily basis? That's true anti-aging.
SPEAKER_02And going back to previous episodes where you taught us a lot about, you know, detoxing the body and in the in your life too, to just overall live better and feel better. I mean,
Inside Out Anti-Aging Habits
SPEAKER_02are you seeing the best results then? Obviously, with those clients that are practicing more healthy habits or changing things along with your treatments.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, absolutely. I have done this for long enough to know that the things you do at home are the number one most important things that you do. And it makes my job much easier when people want to reverse damage from the inside out. And inflammation is something that shows in so many different ways. And people come to me with, you know, under-eye bags and darkness and hollowness and a lot of saggy skin and textural issues and a lot of funny pigmentation like melasma. And they want me to fix these things. And sometimes it's a hard truth for them to hear that it's internal and there's not a lot I can do. We can put a band-aid on it and we can see what happens. But I'm actually building out an entire um community and platform to educate people more deeply on this. And my podcast is a part of that. And I have just, you know, spent the last several weeks committing so much time and energy into building out something that is a little more simple for people to kind of start from the beginning. And when I look at my anti-aging journey, and when I finally have this light kind of click in my mind that inflammation compromises our body's ability to fully reverse aging, you know, every day our body needs to be balanced. And if there are any signs and signals that our body is imbalanced, one that I see often is pimples, acne in adults. Um, that's a signal that our body needs a reset. So it kind of goes back to the conversation that we can significantly improve a lot of this with treatments and with IPL and with microneodle and with growth factors and with skincare. And sometimes we can even cure it, you know? But often it's so much deeper. And when we have clients coming to us a few times a year with the same concerns, and those concerns are skin conditions, it just turns into such a different conversation. And yeah, skin conditions are precursors for other disease down the line. And it's just very interesting the perspective that people have to come to an esthetician to fix their skin. And it's just, it's so much deeper. So treatments are all day going to be so significant when it comes to reversing aging externally. But, you know, those are the extra thing. You know, we should we really practice people coming to us to gain the knowledge on how to take control of the aging process in their own life. And while we meet everybody where they're at, it just you're gonna see such a big difference when you take it seriously and you know, remove toxins from your lifestyle.
