Timeless Skin & Wellness: The Ideal Age For Preventative Anti-Aging
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
You can spend years chasing the “perfect” skin you see online, or you can learn what actually works and when to start. Julie Schwenzer sits down with Marissa Parchman, founder of Timeless Skin & Wellness, for an honest conversation about preventative anti-aging that cuts through trends, fear-based marketing, and AI-enhanced before-and-afters.
We break down the real-world timeline Marissa sees in practice: why kids and teens do not need harsh anti-aging products, what basics like a gentle cleanser and daily SPF can do early, and why age 30 is often the sweet spot to begin prevention. We also talk about conservative options like baby Botox, small-dose neurotoxin, and subtle filler, plus the at-home foundations that keep your skin stronger for longer. Expect practical skincare guidance on retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid, along with how treatments like chemical peels, microneedling, and CO2 laser drive renewal by triggering the body’s healing response.
The biggest shift happens when we get real about expectations. Wrinkles, pigmentation, and dark circles can be signals of what is happening inside the body, and loose skin is not the same problem as rough texture or dehydration. Marissa explains the difference between improving skin health and trying to remove excess skin, why some goals require surgery, and how a good practitioner educates you on all options instead of selling you what they happen to offer. We also walk through what a thorough medical spa consultation looks like, including questionnaires, potential blood work, hormones, and epigenetic testing when deeper wellness issues show up on the skin.
If you care about preventative Botox, anti-aging skincare, realistic aesthetic results, and smarter wellness choices in Denver and beyond, hit play. SPEAKER_02Most people want to age gracefully, but the real secret is knowing when to start taking action long before the mirror tells you to. Welcome everyone. I'm Julie Schwenzer with the awesome Marissa Parchman, the founder of Timeless Skin and Wellness. Marissa, how are you doing today?
SPEAKER_00Hi, Julie. I'm doing so great. It's so nice here in Colorado, and I can't complain. How are you?
SPEAKER_02I'm okay and I'm excited as always to learn from you.
The Right Age To Start
SPEAKER_02Um, you know, a question we hear constantly is what is the ideal age for me to begin preventative treatments? What do you think?
SPEAKER_00Yes, this is an interesting question, and the answer varies because everybody's a little bit different. But with that said, I see these young girls that are wanting to use aggressive skincare or even worse than that, toxic skincare. So the answer for sure is not 12, 13, 14. We don't need to be um reversing damage at those young ages, but we can always support the system. You know, you can always use a nice face wash and, you know, maybe an SPF on a daily basis at a young age. So it's very interesting what I see going on living with an 11-year-old, my stepdaughter, and having young nieces and their want to just follow this skincare and preventative aging trend.
Why 30 Is The Sweet Spot
SPEAKER_00So, with that said, I usually talk to my clients in a way that's over the age of 30 and over the age of 40 and kind of um across the board what that treatment plan looks like. And again, everybody is a little different. And I think there's a lot of things you can do at home when you start to notice very minimal signs of aging, which typically is happening around that age 30. So most of my clients will come in for what we call like baby Botox or, you know, just a little dose of something, little tiny lip filler, little tiny neurotoxin. And I'm seeing a lot of that around the age of 30. And I think that's a really good age to start preventative measures. And I always preach internal wellness. So if you are already in the habit of taking care of your body and you don't drink a lot of alcohol and you don't eat a lot of processed food and you're doing that before the age of 30, then that's amazing. Um, but if you're not practicing these things, then that's something to really look at over the age of 30, because we kind of are on this hill of we're growing, growing, growing until we start to slowly decline. And when we start to slowly decline, we might not have all those visible signs on the outside. And for those that understand how the body works and choose to take it to a little bit different level with your education, um, you realize that there's so many things that you can be doing at home before investing a lot of money in a medical spa. So we have such a wide range of services and we really do have something for everybody. Um, my clients, again, I kind of talk about it in a over the age of 30, over the age of 40. And when you're doing treatments that are damaging a cell, and in return, your body is activating its natural healing response and replacing the damaged cell with a new fresh cell, you could do that with a lot of things: chemical peels, micro needle, CO2 laser, anything we do on the outside, we're really trying to do that, nourish a cell and heal it and hydrate it and oxygenate it, or damage it enough that the body can slough it off. So, retinol, I recommend everybody start using a retinol and some sort of anti-aging acid. I use a lot of glycolic acid. I'm acne prone, so I use a psyllicylic acid on a regular basis. All of these are anti-aging. And when you're using them consistently at home, it's going to slow down, I guess, the point to when you need to come into a medical spa and have treatments done. So we have some girls in their 20s that want to prevent aging, and that's amazing. And, you know, their treatment plan is gonna be a lot less aggressive than the person that comes in over the age of 40 and has never done anything to their skin. So I approach things always from an internal standpoint and see what we can do at home to reverse aging from the inside out, and then the treatments are just gonna complement that. So the short answer is 30.
SPEAKER_02Thank
Lifestyle First Not Last
SPEAKER_02you. And do you find with some of the newer clients too that come in that there is a struggle for them between their lifestyle and you know, probably things that they know, some education on wellness and and preventative measures, but also it's a lot of adults putting themselves last and the self-care last. So then they come in to see you, and you know, the damage has been done because they're taking care of everyone else, and then they finally come to you and like, okay, I'm ready now to take care of myself.
SPEAKER_00You know, I think that that's a really unfortunate place to be, the mindset that the damage is already done, or that our symptoms, you know, wrinkles and dark circles and excessive pigmentation, these are symptoms of aging and often symptoms of and signals of what's going on inside the body. So I don't think it's ever too late. I am very clear on setting an expectation.
Texture Vs Volume Real Results
SPEAKER_00And often the first question I ask my clients is, are you going to ever have a facelift? You know, that's gonna change our course of action and our treatment plan. And I'm very transparent as an injector, it's very easy to look at your client and say, this is the amount of work that you need when you're only working with lasers, which is something that I did for so many years. I wasn't the injector in the clinic for so many years. And I would, you know, give people an expectation, kind of surrounded by a wide range of results that we could achieve. And it's kind of like, you know, maybe you'll get this result, maybe you'll get that result. It's a very, it's an educated guess. And while that is when you're an injector, it's just a little different, you know. So looking at somebody and saying, we can't achieve what you want to achieve with 20 units of Botox and one syringe of filler is a different conversation than saying, oh yeah, you know what a CO2 laser does. The CO2 is gonna do wonders, but some people it does just it gives you such an amazing transformation. And some people you don't quite get that transformation. So with injections, I know what I can achieve. I know what I'm capable of. However, it takes a lot of product. So I guess my point is there's no wrong time to start, but when you're replacing volume compared to dealing with texture in the skin, it's two completely different conversations. I can improve the texture and the health of the skin, but often people look at the wrinkles and they say, Look at my skin. My skin is so unhealthy. And I'm like, your skin is beautiful and supple and hydrated, but I can't remove all this skin. The only thing that can remove the skin is a facelift. But I can put filler in the face and replace some of the lost volume. So there's no wrong answer. There's no right answer, there's no wrong time to start. But there is a wrong way of doing a consultation. And if you're not spending the time with your client and letting them know all their options, I don't do facelifts, but I need my client to know that you know you can achieve what you're looking for with a facelift. And I don't do that. And it's my job to make sure they have that option. Often people are very pigmented and they come in and they want all the skin gone. And I'm like, well, let me do a few chemical peels and a CO2 laser and show you the potential of what we can do to your skin with stripping all that pigment and getting this all that dry skin off the surface. And they're just like, no. Is it gonna make all the skin go away? And I'm like, no, but it's gonna tighten it from a 20% to 60% range. And it's a very interesting conversation when people see one thing on their face, and I'm like, well, there's so many other things to look at. So it's just a matter of finding a practitioner that is going to give you all of the options and make sure you understand all your options. Eyes are another thing. The upper and lower bluff surgery is a fairly simple surgery compared to some of the other surgeries in aesthetics. Also, the upper lip. People come in and they hate this part of their face. Well, what fixes that? The two-finger, three-finger facelift. That's a very unrealistic thing to achieve in a medical spa. Can we do it sometimes? Absolutely. But the only thing for me, it's my big problem area. You know, I have a lot of skin on my face. What's gonna make that skin go away? No treatment, no injectable, no amount of threats. I've done it all. So I have realistic expectations and I'm very pro-facelift at some point. Um, so there's such a wide range of treatments in aesthetic medicine, and there's a huge lack of knowledge in practitioners and practitioners educating the client on what is fully necessary to achieve the results that they want.
Social Media Expectations Get People Hurt
SPEAKER_00And add in social media and all the fake videos that I see, it's insane. There's a company who I actually own one of their devices, and the photos or the videos that they're promoting on Instagram are just fake. They're AI. And so my clients come in and they're like, Well, I want this result. And I'm like, Well, I have that machine, and it is not going to tighten your skin and remove an inch of skin in front of your eyes, like the video on social media. So social media is a huge problem. Our skin is textured, our skin is porous. Um, to have flawless, perfect skin is unrealistic. Our skin is a detox organ. So just again, making sure that you are finding a practitioner that is educating you and you don't walk away confused. Um, for years, I would give so much information to my clients. And after being a practitioner for 10 years, it's very clear what the client needs in my eyes or what is capable in a plastic surgeon's office. And often clients have unrealistic expectations. And you not though for telling us it's never too late to start. That's uh, you know. Absolutely. But don't wait until you're 50, you know? Don't see the signs of aging at 40 that bother you, and then wait until you're like, oh my God, I can't believe I look this way at 50 because it sucks. And to have my clients come in and see it affect their mental health, it's really unfortunate. And I hate to see that. And then what is necessary? Often surgery, because I can't achieve the results that they want. So if you're feeling a certain way, come in and I would love to do a consultation and just let you know all your options. That's always my goal, is to let people know all their options, educate on every level.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's great. And a last question
What A Consultation Includes
SPEAKER_02for you, too. If somebody is coming in to uh seek preventative care, um, what is a consultation like and how long does that take?
SPEAKER_00Yes, I schedule them for 30 minutes. I often go over, it usually takes me a little longer. I'm very thorough. And it entails a questionnaire that you fill out before you come in. It's $50. That is always applied to a package or treatment plan. Um, and depending on the concern, sometimes that entails getting blood work done. Sometimes that entails recommending epigenetic testing. Again, the skin is a detox organ. The skin is a big representation of what is going on on the inside. And we don't just do facials and laser treatments, we also do hormones and we do epigenetic testing, and we have helped people uncover uh heavy metal toxicity and uh radiation poisoning and help people detox from the inside out to create true anti-aging and skin health. That's really what it is is always looking at the inside first.
SPEAKER_02Well, Marissa, thank you so much. We always appreciate your thorough insight. Um, thanks for helping us look younger and fresher. Absolutely. I'm always here. Thank you so much, Julie.
