EMDR WITH DANI AND ALLY

Lighting Up Dark Places Through EMDR: Meet Dani & Ally

Dani & Ally Episode 1

Introducing Your Hosts:

Meet Dani and Ally, two EMDR therapists whose chance encounter during a lost walk to Starbucks in Seattle sparked a powerful professional partnership that transcends geographical boundaries. Dani, a social worker and psychotherapist from Ontario with deep expertise in trauma, and Ally, the founder of Firefly Counseling in Texas with a mission to "light up dark places," have joined forces to support fellow clinicians through collaborative consultation.

Their journeys to becoming trauma specialists were deeply personal, both motivated by witnessing trauma's impact on family and friends. This shared foundation drives their commitment not only to help clients heal but also to mentor other clinicians in becoming effective trauma therapists. While maintaining their individual practices—Dani in Ancaster, Ontario, and Ally across two Texas locations—they've created a supportive community for EMDR practitioners seeking growth and connection.

What makes their approach unique is their holistic vision of trauma healing. Beyond traditional therapy, they partner with various healthcare providers—from psychiatrists to trauma-informed massage therapists—recognizing that effective trauma work requires comprehensive care. Their collaborative model exemplifies their belief that the best healing starts with connection, whether between therapist and client or among professionals supporting each other. They're working toward becoming EMDR basic training trainers, further extending their impact on the field.

Ready to connect with Dani and Ally? Whether you're a seasoned EMDR therapist seeking consultation or just beginning your journey into trauma work, they offer resources, training, and community that bridges distances and creates belonging.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to EMDR with Danny and Allie, your go-to space for collaborative consultation that connects and grows, one clinician at a time. I'm your voice guide not Danny, not Allie here to introduce your hosts Danny in Ontario, canada, and Allie in Texas. Together, they train clinicians around the globe and offer EMDR therapy that's as supportive as a great pair of walking shoes Steady, reliable and just what you need to walk alongside your clients. Whether you're a seasoned therapist or just starting your EMDR journey, you're in the right place to connect, learn and grow without having to log thousands of miles. Let's get started.

Speaker 2:

Welcome everyone. I'm Sofia Yvette, co-host and producer, here in the studio today with Dani and Ali. Dani and Ali, how's it going? Great, great, great. Now, over the years, I know you've both grown a remarkable following. However, some listeners might not be familiar with your full journeys. Let's take it from the top. Could you share a little background about your companies and what you do? Dani, would you like to start?

Speaker 3:

Sure, sure, I'm a social worker and practicing psychotherapist and I have a solo practice located in Ancaster, Ontario, which is about 45 minutes from Toronto for those of you who know Toronto and I provide primarily EMDR therapy to those suffering from trauma, so my background is primarily in trauma.

Speaker 2:

And what about you Allie?

Speaker 4:

So I have Firefly Counseling here in Texas. I have two locations, one in Flower Mound and the other in Waco, and have a passion to help as many people as possible and for fireflies where they light up the dark places. That's the goal of Firefly is to light up the dark places in people's lives. So we utilize a lot of EMDR therapy. We work with children, individuals, adults, couples and try to help people as best as we can.

Speaker 2:

Wow, ladies. Well, thank you for sharing with our listeners today a little bit about your backgrounds. Now let's get into a different aspect. We know marketing is key to any business's success. How are you both marketing your businesses, separately and together? Allie, I'll let you start.

Speaker 4:

I would say together, danielle and I are. We both utilize psychology today. We both work with the EMDRIA organization, which is amazing and has a ton of resources there for us as the EMDR community, and we also are working with this podcast. Together and then separately, we do some different things for our businesses in different locations. So I like to partner a lot with like-minded psychiatrists, like-minded doctors, like-minded trauma-informed massage therapists people in the community that have a heart to help clients holistically is really on my heart and the heartbeat of Firefly to try to connect and help the whole person.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, and similar to Allie, I take a lot of direct referrals from mental health professionals, osteopaths, chiropractors, functional medicine specialists.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Now, when you're both not busy running your business, what do you like to do for fun business? What do you like to?

Speaker 4:

do for fun. We both love the outdoors. We both enjoy hiking. I know that we love spending time with our families. I love anything active, whether it's hiking, biking the pool being in Texas it's very hot, so being around water or on the lake hot, so being around water or on the lake, water skiing, being with friends, going to coffee shops those are fun things for me.

Speaker 3:

Totally, totally. We both love coffee and this is sort of how we met was on a lost walk to Starbucks in Seattle a couple of years ago.

Speaker 2:

That's how every great story starts. Right Now, I know, danny and Allie, you both are very busy people coming from two completely different locations. So, in your own words, why are you doing this?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I can share a little bit about myself. I think that we all have family and friends who have been touched by trauma, and that's sort of where my journey to becoming a trauma therapist started and then the teaching of it sort of just naturally launched from there. I'm somebody who loves to mentor and guide and just support other people, and so my own business, belong Inc, is all about sort of supporting others and creating a sense of belonging, whether that's as whether it's you know the clients that I'm working with or it's clinicians and wrapping around them and then meeting Allison. This was just a natural journey to have this collaborative space together.

Speaker 4:

Definitely and encourage each other as well, and the things that we were doing with a very much a like-mindedness with each other.

Speaker 4:

So, that's wonderful, I would say. At Firefly it's very similar in those ways. As a LPC supervisor, I love working with interns and associates and coming alongside of them and mentoring them and helping them become great clinicians, and so that's a dream for Dani and I as well to do the same thing within the EMDR community and come alongside of each other and become future trainers for the EMDR basic training, as well as offering these consultation groups together to bring her experience and my experience together into this beautiful connection, together to offer even more to clinicians. So it's a way that we can both give back but also continue to help shape our profession as well. So and we also both still have our own caseload as well- yes, absolutely.

Speaker 2:

Wow, well, love it. Danny and Allie, we'll catch you in the next episode where we'll dive into some frequently asked questions. Have a fantastic rest of your day. Thank you so much.

Speaker 3:

Thank you.
