SPEAKER_01

Hello and welcome back to episode number one of season two of Two Average Guys. Today, Sawyer is back on the podcast. He finally has time. No, I was just playing. Um, we had a couple guest appearances, but Sawyer's back, and opening day has come and gone. We are about 10 games into the season, and we're gonna kind of talk about some stuff that's happened in the MLB, but we're really gonna focus in on the Phillies. So, Sawyer, welcome back. You want to, you know, yeah, start us off?

SPEAKER_02

I'll start off, but so like I mean, opening series against the Rangers. I think I mean we two and one in the series, not bad. We got to see a lot of we got to see Justin Crawford just ball out, still going crazy. I mean, you you talked highly about him. I mean, I wasn't as like confident, but like, dude, he's kind of like our best hitter right now. Just kind of funny.

SPEAKER_01

Just really, I mean, he hit over 300 every year in the minors. Yeah. Um, they went one and two against the Rangers. Rangers are a decent team, I guess. I mean, uh, they're always decent. I think the Phillies should definitely be better, but it always seems Oh, did I say one?

SPEAKER_02

Did I see two and one? No, yeah, you see.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, my bad, yeah, my bad. It always feels like the Phillies start, you know, one and two. Like I'm pretty sure I saw a post that like the last six seasons the Phillies have gone one and two or something on on opening series. So I'm not too upset with that. I mean, like first 10 games. This is what game 12s going on right now as we're recording this.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, betting like 320 right now.

SPEAKER_01

I think he's up higher than that.

SPEAKER_02

I think he's I mean, I I'm it's updated right now, 320.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, is it 324? Yeah, with everything updated. Yeah. I mean, that's that's exactly what you want. Yeah, like first 11, 12 games, and that's what you're gonna get.

SPEAKER_02

That's like he's a he's a nine-hole guy, he's just there to get on, and he's doing a he's doing a great job of it.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly that. He's got first walk-off, first hit, and I'm pretty sure. Um I think his first day being the majors was a single up the middle. And then, you know, he's really, really good. Another guy who's come in and been really good is Adolis Garcia. I don't okay, I won't say really good, but he's been good. Um he's played okay defense, but I know he's got I think he has two homers, and one of them was was jacked over 400 feet, I'm pretty sure. Um, so he's putting bad on ball. I don't know necessarily where his average is right now at this moment. I can check. Um he's playing today, he's batting 256, but honestly, if he can stay around 250 and hit some pumps like that, that are we talking about uh Adoles. Yeah, if he can stay around 250 and hit 30 plus bombs, like that's what we want from him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, what did he? I don't think he didn't have 30 plus last year at the Rangers, right? I don't think he did.

SPEAKER_01

That was a it was a bad year.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but I mean, yeah, great defense, like you said. I mean, we we knew that going in, getting him best one of the better defending right fielders in the league. But I mean, yeah, we're he's gonna need after seeing like him play, we're gonna need a lot of pumps out of him for him to make an impact.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it the lineup hasn't been producing nearly as well as I thought it was going to.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I agree completely.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, um Schwarber's gotta get hot, Harper's gotta get hot, Bone's gotta get hot, Stott's gotta get hot.

SPEAKER_02

I mean okay. Bohm wasn't I he's injured right now, I thought he wasn't in the lineup the other day because of that.

SPEAKER_01

He wasn't injured, he's playing in the game.

SPEAKER_02

He's playing today, yeah. Okay, that makes sense then.

SPEAKER_01

And Otto Kemp goes on the left field and did not look good.

SPEAKER_02

He didn't?

SPEAKER_01

He he misread a ball very, very poorly that went right over his head.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's he's he's a liability out there, but I mean he could hit when he can hit, like yeah, and Brandon Marsh, I think, looks good. Uh Marsh has been great. I like I I still love Marsh. I think he's a very underrated guy.

SPEAKER_01

I that's not good. Marshawn, though. I I I'm semi-high on Marshawn. I think he's a decent player.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, yeah, he just like low-key like he hits as just as well as JT and is a way worse fielder than JT.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I'm I I wouldn't even say he hits as well as JT. I don't think he hits it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean I mean it helps that he's a switch hitter, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it helps that he's a switchy.

SPEAKER_02

I mean he he's he's like the same or lower, yeah. But yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know. Uh he'll do until JT comes back. Hopefully he won't be out too long. Seems like it wasn't that serious.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I think it'll be fine.

SPEAKER_01

But but it's gotta get the guys hot. I mean, we're really just not hitting the ball.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, yeah, off the bat, like our run differential was horrible because we got killed by the Nats 13-2, and then I mean, then we won the next two at least, but it was only one run. Like, our run differentiable was horrible.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so I mean, yeah, after the first series loss to the Rangers, we won two of three against the Nats, two of three against the Rockies, and we're split one and one right now with the Giants and playing game three of that series right now. Yeah, 0-0 right now. Six and five overall, not bad. Fourth in the division, really early in the division. Um, Mets and Braves, in my opinion, look good. I think both those teams look pretty good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, it it it does make me feel better that Bo's not looking the greatest.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that does make me feel a lot better.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's not. I mean, but yeah, ever their whole team's doing great.

SPEAKER_01

He's up over 200. I'll say that. I mean, yeah, I mean, obviously, he was like 311 last year. So obviously he won him around 300, but for for how crappy he started being up to 212 is is definitely good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, talking about so like Harper probably had one of the worst starts in MLB. I like read like after at first, like I it was a guy comparing like all the like the stars that are doing bad, like Nick Kurtz at first, like through five or like through five something games, had like he was like two for like and not five games, maybe a little more, like two for like thirty. Yeah, he had he had a really bad start, but um Harper. I mean, last game or two games ago, he he came out, he came out hot, had a really good game after just last game. Or it was last yeah, I didn't I was about to say it wasn't last year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know.

SPEAKER_02

He needs to like Harper he he had a bad year last year, and he really needs to step it up if he wants to do it.

SPEAKER_01

Say in a bad year. People are people are quick to say in a bad year. He still hit 280. He still hit 280. Um, yeah, the power was down a little bit. Yeah, you want the average maybe a little bit higher, but 280 is not it, it's respectable, but uh people are quick to say it was a down year. I think it was an okay year. Um, it definitely wasn't an elite year, and I want him to return to being elite Bryce Harper form. Yeah. Um, but you saw that in game one against the Giants, but uh he also said he liked playing in in Oracle Park, so I don't know if that was just Bryce Harper going off on some Bryce Harper stuff, or if that's if the ballpark really has a difference for him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, yeah, I want to go into Painter though. Uh like first game, first game going into it. I was so terrified.

SPEAKER_01

A live update, Rafael Devers just hit a three-run home run.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, but let's ignore that. Uh damn it. Um who's pitching right now? Who's in?

SPEAKER_01

Nola.

SPEAKER_02

Nola's he p he he pitched through the seventh.

SPEAKER_01

No, it's the bottom of the sixth.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's still the bottom six. Oh yeah.

SPEAKER_01

It's the bottom of the sixth.

SPEAKER_02

Long ass, long ass inning. But um yeah, well, sadly that happened. But let's go right into uh painter though. Like we were we before before anything happened, we were all terrified. I mean, first first outing, phenomenal. Uh like one one earned run, which okay, he the guy when he came out was on second end. I forget who came in, but he kind of sold it for uh for painter, in my opinion. But great, I forget how many K's he had, but uh oh he had eight K's first outing, one run, phenomenal.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, his next his next game was uh but yeah, no, so he's had two starts, um nationals. We ended up winning the game. He got the win by decision. Uh yeah, the one run on five and a third, like Sawyer said. Second game, four innings, nine hits, four earned runs, only one K. Um wasn't really good, but that's kind of in the story of our pitchers, in my opinion. At least with like Sanchez, they've had one good outing and one not so good outing, or like Lazardo, his two outings, his one outing, he went six innings, six earned runs, gave up two homers, and the next and next outing goes six and two thirds, only gives up one run and strikes out eleven. Like it feels like our pitchers are having like either a really good outing or a really bad outing, and right now they've given us one of each. Yeah, except for Taiwan Walker, who's back to being very not good.

SPEAKER_02

I was so uh disappointed. Like, he's been horrible every time.

SPEAKER_01

You were so high on him at the end of last year, you were like, Oh, this is the guy, put him in the rotation, and now he does not he does not look like the guy. He has two outings. Uh, the first outing was against the Nationals, where we ended up losing 13-2. He went four and two-thirds, gave up ten hits, seven runs, six of them earned, with only two strikeouts, and got the loss. And then he pitched in the game that we lost to the Colorado Rockies four to one. He went five innings, seven hits, four runs, four earned, gave up three home runs, two to former Philly Mickey Moniac. Uh two walks, struck out four.

SPEAKER_02

Are we talking about uh oh who gave up the bomb to those that was game oh it was Walker?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, he gave up two bombs to Mickey.

SPEAKER_02

I remember I literally remember seeing uh before that game, like he has like a two ERA against the Rockies. It was like a random thing, and now he's like not anymore. Yeah, it was horrible.

SPEAKER_01

He's got a seven point, or I'm sorry, he's got a nine point three one ERA on the season, which is horrible, and he's owing two, dude.

SPEAKER_02

I I yeah, I hooked him up a lot. I had so much faith in him, and now yeah, I don't know, but you did you definitely did hype. Dude, he was so he he he ended his season last season amazing, phenomenal, and I had so much faith, but yeah. I mean, yeah, I think the lineup overall just has to get hot right now, at least everything, because it's like the same, it's like the playoffs we had, like only like two guys were good, and then the rest just horrible. I mean, Turner's not having a horrible start.

SPEAKER_01

Uh not what we want though. Yeah, but I just like uh it's it's Turner needs to be back to 300, basically. That's what I want. Yeah. By the end of the year, I want to turn it back to 300. I want Schwarber to be around 250.

SPEAKER_02

What is he at right now?

SPEAKER_01

220, like 200, just about that. Harper, I want to be 290.

SPEAKER_02

Um, you know, is he batting like 260 right now?

SPEAKER_01

He's 230.

SPEAKER_02

Damn, he's not even in the 50 range.

SPEAKER_01

No, um, bohm, bone. I would like to see in the 270s.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, okay. I call it crazy. I'm dude. Bone's been very like disappointing. Like the start too, like low-key chucking a Sosa.

SPEAKER_01

I you know how I feel about Edmundo Sosa. I I think he should, like, oh baby, Edmundo Sosa. Hey, he played the other day and was one of the Phillies' four hits. The other three people that have hits included Trey Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Edmundo Sosa. Those were our four hits. So, you know, I think the guy deserved the guy at least earned a little bit of time. Like, one, yeah, I know Boehm, I know Bohm leads the team in RBIs and all that. Whatever. He's in the four hole. He's gonna have a bunch of chances to get RBIs with the top three guys in our lineup and Justin Crawford hitting super well. But Edmundo Sosa should play every day, and I don't think that's crazy. I don't think that's crazy at all.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, yeah, I think he should at least platoon more with maybe with stop more. I mean, he already does, but like, yeah, I do agree. Like, when when but when Bohm is cold, which is right now, I think he should be getting a lot more reps at third, at least.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I'm saying. Like, yeah, he leads the team in RBIs, but he's hitting fourth, where Crawford's hitting 300, and then you have Trey Turner, Schwab, and Harper. He's gonna have chances to get RBIs. Yeah, that's why he's leading the team. Also, team leader in RBIs. He only has like eight. Like we're not our our differential for through 11 games is is negative 10. It's still negative, negative 10. Well, we just lost 6-0 to the Giants.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, you could point.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um, Dylan Moore got in at second instead of Stott. He didn't look good. Yeah, uh, he didn't look good. Auto Kemp didn't look good. Yeah, it's been uh so our really like our true only bench guy is Edmundo Sosa. Yeah. And I'm not even sure he should be a bench guy. I would put Edmundo Sosa in the left over Auto Kemp. I don't know if that's crazy, but uh Sosa because I really do think he's a good ball player.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I think he's I I think he's a very underrated guy.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, very underrated.

SPEAKER_02

Nationals game, maybe you can't get it. Yeah, it might have been the Nats. Don't think it was the Rockies.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it was 5-3, bottom of the ninth, Sosa singled to left, and we had two guys score. And I was like, oh my goat. Like, I was so happy. He pinch hit for Bryson's, and he went one for two with two RBIs. Like, what more do you want from a guy that just got plugged into the lineup and you know, whatever, and he got in the whatever. Like, and then he went out and played second base. This man plays every position, and he's a good bat, and he sits on our bench. I don't I don't get it. I don't get it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, I don't know, yeah. I mean, what uh just Bohm's been there forever. Like, I I feel like, and like you know how like uh how uh or uh what's his name? Why am I blanking uh how our manager usually is like he just like favorites his guys a lot, which I mean it's fair, Rob. Yeah, I couldn't think of Rob.

SPEAKER_01

And honestly, one of the things that I wasn't not super excited about going into the year is our bullpen, who's been phenomenal.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, okay, I was gonna actually have him up right now. The Orion Kirkering thing yesterday was hilarious. Oh man.

SPEAKER_01

Oh man. Orion Kirkering made his first uh first appearance since the game against the Dodgers in the playoffs last year. Moving on. Um, he made his first appearance, and in his only inning that he threw, like there was a comeback or hit right to him, and he jumped out of the way. So maybe a little bit of PTSD from the playoffs. Yeah, a lot, but maybe a lot of PTSD, and JT picked the ball up and or JT or Marshawn, I don't even remember who it was. It was JT. It was right. Picked the ball up and and made an arid throw that Harper couldn't get.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

One of our two errors in that game. But uh we move on. I'm excited to see Kirk Ring back on the mound.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I I've liked everyone. Brad Keller, I thought would be like he's he's been good, just nothing like as I expected, though.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't know what to expect from him. He's been alright. I mean, he's done his job.

SPEAKER_02

5-4 ERA through five innings, five appearances, four or five innings pitch, four strikeouts. I mean, I really expected him to come out like crazy because he he was really good for the Cubs, but I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

He's been uh he's just gonna set up he doesn't have to do too much. Yeah, then Duran Duran's been Duran. So give us one-on-lead. That's all he's gotta give us.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I'm just gonna look at his stats. Yeah, one five. I mean, one five so ERA doesn't matter for closers that often, in my opinion. Seven strikeouts through five and a half inning or five point two innings. I mean, he's been great. Just Duran's gonna be Duran.

SPEAKER_01

I'm upset. I'm upset by a PED boy, bro. Jose Alvarado, yeah, I'm upset by Ozempic boy, Jose Alvarado, bro. He's not been good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, I saw uh when did I watch him against the I mean he didn't do bad against the Giants the other day. I don't think he did, yeah. He didn't do too bad when I watched him.

SPEAKER_01

He's like a nine ERA.

SPEAKER_02

That's just yeah, 9.8 with yeah, three innings pitch, a two whip.

SPEAKER_01

That's just not um he's pretty yeah. We are thir we're 11 games into the season. We've already had a position player pitch. Oh lord, who pitched?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, was that oh that was that was against the Nats, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Dylan Moore got in.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, that's bad. But I mean, going down everything, I mean, um uh they have a Mundo Sosa. I'm just going down like the MLB's roster for the Philz. They have Sosa in second after stop for second, and then also second for third.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, he's the backup guy.

SPEAKER_02

Also shortstop, yeah. He's literally everywhere. He plays he's not on the outfield, though. Not on any of the outfield.

SPEAKER_01

Well, I'm not sure he's played much outfield. He has last year, I think. I think he did last year. I don't I just don't know what to do in in left field. I I honestly I think Brandon Marshall be an everyday player. I I'm not gonna lie, Autokemp was is not the guy for me.

SPEAKER_02

Damn, you're hyping him up forever, ever.

SPEAKER_01

Like I'm not sure I was. Autokemp's not the guy for me.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I'm with you on that. He's just a liability out there, and his bet's too iffy to actually like have that out there.

SPEAKER_01

Like, obviously, he had multiple games. He had like a four-hit game last year. Like, yeah, I oh yeah, he did great. I know he's good. Obviously, he's playing in the freaking major leagues, but it to me, I think I think if you're gonna play him, it's gotta be a third base.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And we have our third baseman, and we have our backup third baseman. Uh I'm not sure. There are a lot of people that could switch from like outfield to infield or vice versa, like Harper did coming in to play first.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um I'm just not sure Otto Kemp is one of the guys that can play left field. I don't know if his range is like that. Like uh I I don't know. Uh it's just my opinion. I'm not I'm not huge on Otto Kemp. I would like to see Brandon Marsh be an everyday guy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I agree with that completely. I mean, yeah, just Kemp's just a liability, in my opinion. And again, his bat's just not worth that liability.

SPEAKER_01

I would play, I would play Turner, Schwarber, Harper. I guess I'll play Bohm. I would I like I would play our normal lineup, but just play him every day.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like don't put an auto. Don't but if you need a pinch hitter, it should be Sosa immediately. Shouldn't even think about it.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, it depends. I mean, yeah, I mean, who's our lefty off the bench? Why am I like blinking? Do we even have a lefty off the bench? I don't I don't that isn't out yeah, or that isn't uh is Dylan Moore switch fit?

SPEAKER_01

No, he's a righty.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I didn't think he was. Um Yeah, I mean, I except uh except Marshawn. That's it.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we don't really have Wow, yeah, we don't really have a gotta.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I don't know. A lot of righties, but I mean, if we're being honest, when's the last time we've had like a cre we've never had a crazy pitch hit or like appearance ever? We usually just keep our lineup throughout the whole game. Like, I don't know. No matter what the matchup is. Unless it's like Stot against a lefty bottom nine. But yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Uh it's it's just it's been a very lackluster start, but every year I watch the Phillies, I feel like I say this.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like I always sit here and go, Oh man, they should have been so much better to start the year. And then they always end up as a 80-90 win team.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it yeah, yeah. We always start off slow. I mean, it happened last year, and yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Hopefully they can pick it up looking towards the next couple series.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, yeah, we're gonna be we're gonna be 500 after today's game, probably, right? Yeah, 500 or no, we're below 500.

SPEAKER_01

Well, yeah, oh yeah, wait, we're oh, oh yeah, we're six and five, so we'll be six and six.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I was about to say, yeah, we're five.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I'm sorry, I didn't understand what you meant, but I'm with you now.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, but I mean, yeah, and then who Lazardo's pitching tomorrow?

SPEAKER_01

It is Lazardo. Lazardo.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, Lazardo. So I mean, I don't know. Hopefully he comes out hot. That'll be that'll be cool to watch.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, well, except we're facing Michael Soroka, who's 2-0 with a 0.9 ERA.

SPEAKER_02

I believe in us.

SPEAKER_01

So hopefully we can raise that ERA. Yeah, I mean, and then it's the Diamondbacks, like the Diamondbacks. In that game, we got Taiwan Walker. Uh he's and then Painter.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, and then not a not not a bad series. I mean, uh, Taiwan kind of ruins that one for me.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, that's funny. We go, we go Arizona, then we go Chicago, then we go Atlanta, then we go Chicago, then we go Atlanta.

SPEAKER_02

We have two series that early with Atlanta already.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're Chicago at home, Atlanta at home, Chicago on the road, Atlanta on the road, and then we host San Francisco Giants at home. Oh we play, we just keep repeating teams to start the year.

SPEAKER_02

Interesting. Yeah, that's why do we re yeah, that's kind of odd. Okay, but I mean I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

I I just thought that was funny. I'm looking at the yeah, um, it looks like it's gonna be a good National League East.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, very I mean, Mets are one right now, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Mets are one seven and four, yeah, and then Braves, Braves are seven and five, Miami six and five. Surprising. I mean Sandy has been amazing. Yeah, he's yes, amazing.

SPEAKER_02

It's like it looks like his old self back in his prime.

SPEAKER_01

And yeah, he almost went, he almost went, he went complete. He did a he didn't shut out. He was supposed to.

SPEAKER_02

Well, he had a complete he had a complete shutout this year already.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, does he?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he did. All right, look, I like remember seeing it. I saw like the highlights and everything.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, his first outing was seven innings, zero earned runs, five K's. Then he went then he went CG, three hits, seven K's, and his last outing, he went eight and a third.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's been disgusting. Like it's wow, he's been fun to watch. I'll say that. It's like it's like his old self back in uh what was the year that he went crazy? It was in the teens, like I think it was like 2018.

SPEAKER_01

No, it wasn't that far back, it was only a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_02

No, it wasn't in the 20s, uh it might have been 21. I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

You can look that up. I thought he was pretty good a couple years ago. Um Miami's lineup though, it doesn't seem that crazy, but they're they're they're playing good ball, but I'm not sure. They started the year against the Rockies, I think. Yeah, they started against the Rockies and then played the White Sox.

SPEAKER_02

So it's not good. He won uh he won uh in 22, uh Cy Young.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I was gonna say, I thought it was only a couple years ago.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Eight four out of the pitcher. Um, so they started with the Rockies and then the White Sox, then went to the Yankees and the Reds. So I mean the Yankees were really their only well, let me not say that. The Reds, I guess, are halfway decent.

SPEAKER_02

They are below 500.

SPEAKER_01

No, they're not. They're not? No. They're eight and three, they're leading the central.

SPEAKER_02

The Reds? I mean, I haven't watched the Reds. Low key, I just watch straight Phillies.

SPEAKER_01

I I just kind of look at yeah, I just kind of look at you know, standings all the time. Um, the Dodgers are nine and two. I mean and the Dodgers players and even their superstars. Their best players right now has been Andy Paez.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, Otani's still been good though.

SPEAKER_01

Otani's yeah, but their best player has been Andy Paez. Yeah. I promise you, he leads that team in so much, and he bats seven.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That that's oh, Shohei just went six innings, four hits, two K's today. He's a zero URA.

SPEAKER_02

Wow, two appearances.

SPEAKER_01

This is his third. This is his second appearance.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, it's second, okay. I was right.

SPEAKER_01

Both times he went six innings. He's given up, he's giving up five hits in 12 innings.

SPEAKER_02

Again, I said this other day, he's going to be an eight-time MVP.

SPEAKER_01

Nah, I never mind. Let me not say that. I was gonna say he might win a uh Cy Young, but he could he doesn't get enough volume for it.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, I agree. He's never gonna win a Cy Young, but he's just gonna keep winning the MVP.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not sure he'll ever pitch more than six innings. I'm not sure they'll I'm not sure they'll ever stretch him to seven. Yeah, now that they got Alex Vestia and Edwin Diaz, they're they're bullpen's deep enough where they don't need to stretch him.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, good point. I mean, but still the guys if the guy's cooking, you're gonna leave him in. But no, 100%.

SPEAKER_01

And okay, I'm not I'm I'm never saying never. Like there might be a couple instances where he does take the ball into the seventh and go seven, maybe even eight, but I don't I don't see him ever doing like what Yamamoto does. Um I don't see him ever going nine innings or anything like that, like Yamamoto does.

SPEAKER_02

I forgot about Yamamoto.

SPEAKER_01

Um or doing what Sandy's doing right now and throwing, you know, 20 20 some innings and three starts.

SPEAKER_02

It's crazy that the Dodgers are still probably gonna win this year.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, 100%. They're like the there's like a there's like a 50% chance the Dodgers win the world series. Oh, yeah. I saw that post. It was like they have they have a plus 35 run differential.

SPEAKER_02

Already, oh my god.

SPEAKER_01

They have 72 runs scored and 37 runs against. Yeah, it's absolutely insane.

SPEAKER_02

Their GM has the right mindset, just spend as much money until everyone gets pissed.

SPEAKER_01

All right, look at this one, right? The Dodgers are nine and two, they're on a five-game win streak, and in their last ten, they're eight and two. The Cincinnati Reds are eight and three, they're on a five-game win streak, and their last ten, they're eight and two. The Dodgers have a 30 plus 35 run differential. The Reds have a plus one.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, this is yeah, that's a joke.

SPEAKER_01

Milwaukee's in second in the central at 8-4 with a plus 24 run differential.

SPEAKER_02

Dude, Milwaukee, Milwaukee looked gross yesterday against the Red Sox. Yeah, no, Milwaukee's a team that could be that could definitely be.

SPEAKER_01

I want to watch one of his games, but yeah, he's he went five and a third, 10Ks. Um four walks, though.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, he okay, he's a he's a kid who throws a hundred. He's not gonna he's gonna walk people.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but uh I get what you mean.

SPEAKER_02

That makes sense.

SPEAKER_01

He's in his two outings. Oh, I'm sorry, he has three outings. In his three outings, he has a combined nine walks and twenty-eight strikeouts.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, I don't know. His team's winning. So, I mean, sometimes you know you gotta look away from the walks, in my opinion.

SPEAKER_01

The K's make up for it, but uh he's one and one on the season. We'll see how it goes. I think the Brewers are another team, like they they should be as good as last year. Well, probably not as good as last year. I don't think they're gonna be as good as they're still gonna be as good as last year, but they're gonna be good. Yeah, the Dodgers are of course gonna be good. I mean, it seems like a lot of our predictions from what we said. The only thing that I'm seeing is the Braves look like the team that a lot of people think the Braves are gonna be, where they're gonna come back healthy and and be very competitive. I wasn't so sold on that. I don't know about you.

SPEAKER_02

Uh I I I had I I I think they were gonna go into the season a lot better because last year I don't know what happened, but they could not hit for anything. Like, stride. I mean, I'm really I'm hop I'm I'm hoping to see how Strider does this year because last year was horrible watching him. It looked like he couldn't do anything. Like, I'm sorry, like he was horrible last year.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I I I mean I wouldn't say horrible, but I definitely agree with what you're saying. He he has looked way better.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I I've been watching him this year, so I'm not 100% sure, but yeah, I like to see him do good at least, and I don't want to see him do good, at least against us, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And then the only other division I want to take a look at real quick is the AL East, where you thought that not you, but like in general, there was a thought that the Yankees were gonna be good, the Red Sox were gonna be good, Toronto was gonna be good, Baltimore was gonna be good, and then the Rays were gonna be okay. Like a lot of people, honestly, I will say, including myself, thought this was easily going to be the best division in baseball. I thought it, I thought that this was easily going to be the best division. I didn't even think it was gonna be that close. And you have the Yankees at 8-2, the Orioles at 6-6, the Rays at 5-6, Toronto's at 4-7, and Boston's at 4-8.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they they keep hyping up Roman Anthony, but Lord.

SPEAKER_01

I'm high on Roman Anthony.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, okay. I I don't know. His arm it's so funny, it's so bad. Like, it's horrible, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I'm personally very, very high on Roman Anthony. I think he's good.

SPEAKER_02

I think they hyped him up a lot going to this season, and I knew it was crazy to hype him up that much.

SPEAKER_01

I'm curious to see how the I mean I'm curious to see how the whole league progresses, but the American American League East specifically, in my mind, is a division that I want to keep my eye out for because I want to see in my head it was Yankees, Toronto, Boston, Baltimore, and Tampa Bay. That's what are I had going into the year. I just kind of want to see if you know, we have a very small 10-game sample size. I want to see if as everything progresses, we get kind of the evened out, what we thought Boston gets back over 500 kind of kind of feel from from the MLB, especially that division.

SPEAKER_02

Well, we're talking about remember you said Cece, you didn't think he was gonna do good at all. Like, I mean, I wouldn't say at all. I mean, uh, he's going against the White Sox MA's. I mean, he I thought he was gonna be okay. Like, he's only let up three runs this this uh this season, nine innings pitch, three runs, eighteen K's.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, I mean he's a strikeout machine. Oh, yeah, yeah. I mean strikeout dean, but it that's two appearances where we only went nine innings. I mean yeah, five and four.

SPEAKER_02

Like yeah, uh yeah, one he won four, yeah. One he won five.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah, it's not ideal. I mean, it plays like the blue jays just need guys to throw, but they're they're reliant, they're they're pretty hitting reliant, yeah. Um, but uh I don't know. See also like his highest ERA is against the ALE's. Like I was just kind of taking the facts that we had.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's fair.

SPEAKER_01

But um, you know, you play those guys 10, 12, 15 times in a year. You're gonna learn how to pitch them. You might make a few mistakes, um, but you're gonna learn how to pitch them. So he he should definitely adjust and be good. Um, strike out a bunch of guys, probably be over 200 K's again. I mean, oh easily, easily, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he's on pace nearly 20 through two appearances.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's on pace to strike out two guys every inning. Yeah. Um, which is incredible.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I mean, just got to update Giants up 4-0 now.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, sweet. Let's go.

SPEAKER_02

So it's just throwing a it's throwing like just put in someone random. Just put on Rafi, just put Rafael on the mound. No, he's he's catching, actually. It's five zip now.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I just saw. Devers with his fourth RBI.

unknown

Damn.

SPEAKER_01

Off of who's Alvarado, man?

SPEAKER_02

They put in Alvarado, dude, and he comes in and just sells every time. I I mean, he gives up he gives up two hits in a run. I mean, yeah, this okay, time let's hell. I don't know, but yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we're just you know, this was uh uh an update 10 games into the season. We'll keep you guys updated as the season progresses with more Philly stuff, more just MLB stuff in general. But this was we wanted to touch on opening day. We want to touch on you know the young guys, Painter, Crawford, kind of touch on the the stars that need to get back to their star-like form. And we're just gonna roll with the season and hopefully everything pans out.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, hopefully. Uh I'm I'm looking forward to the diamondback series. Hopefully we can lock in. We don't have our we don't have our best pitchers out, but we have like the middle to end of the rotation, so hopefully it's good.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and honestly, real quick, we didn't even touch on wheeler, who's gonna be coming back soon.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, yeah, good point. Yeah, I'm I'm scared.

SPEAKER_01

But I'm not, I think he looks all right. I think we're not gonna have prime wheeler, but we're definitely they wouldn't bring him back unless they thought he was ready.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, that's fair.

SPEAKER_01

That's not something you rush. He's I he's gonna be he's gonna be wheeler, or they wouldn't bring him back. Yeah, so that'll be a great addition to the bullpen, uh, or great addition to the rotation, and hopefully Tywin Walker can get out get out of there.

SPEAKER_02

Um chill on, chill on my guy.

SPEAKER_01

No, we'll we'll we'll keep you guys updated as as the season progresses with everything, and yeah, that's that's about it for the for the first week of MLB updates.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, we'll see ya.
