Sophomore gymnast Nikki Rengifo joins David & Amelia to discuss the upcoming EAGL Championships and her journey as a student-athlete at Temple!

SPEAKER_00

Welcome back to another episode of the Owl Pod. I'm your host, David Ludfin, alongside me, my beloved co-host, who just rolled her eyes at me for some reason.

SPEAKER_04

Amelia Wright. I was expecting like a really hype, like, who's ready for the Owl Pod? And you just gave us the classic.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because I'm not gonna fake it. I just I'm not feeling that today.

SPEAKER_04

Dude, it's St. Paddy's Day. Get hype.

SPEAKER_00

We got a lot of St. Paddy's Day talk. We'll get into that. Maybe a little preview of Temple Takes. Um perhaps. I'm just gonna say overrated holiday, just right off the bat. It's an overrated holiday. That's okay. Um we're back. Another episode. We got a very special guest. I mean, we always say this, right? I feel like this is one of the things we're gonna do.

SPEAKER_04

Every guest is special in their own way.

SPEAKER_00

No, but I'm saying if you clicked on this episode, it wasn't to hear us talk, it was probably to hear our guests.

SPEAKER_04

The Owl Faithful loves our voice.

SPEAKER_00

Well, then there's the Owl Faithful, which consists of what, four people?

SPEAKER_04

My mom, my dad.

SPEAKER_00

I think my mom. And yeah, my dad as well.

SPEAKER_04

And then some temple um workers, they love us. Shout out Robin, shout out BJ.

SPEAKER_00

BJ. Yo, fun fact, I saw BJ on the trail before you look at our game. We got a couple miles in.

SPEAKER_04

I just saw BJ right before the pod.

SPEAKER_00

Well, did you run with him?

SPEAKER_04

I did not run with him.

SPEAKER_00

Did you know he's doing a marathon?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I did know that, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Where's the marathon?

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I don't know if people care about all this, but marathon for BJ's in Jersey City. Okay, I I hope your training's going well, BJ.

SPEAKER_00

How many marathons has he done?

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I think I know. He's done one. It's just gonna be a second. Anyway, um let's do what we always do. We'll hit a little recap, Temple Sports, and then we'll get into our interview with Nikki, who was kind enough to join us the week of their conference championships. That'd be the Eagle Conference. Do you know what that stands for?

SPEAKER_04

Eastern Atlantic Gymnastics League.

SPEAKER_00

I think so. Yeah, got the nod. Okay. Thank you. Let's start with our beloved basketball programs who saw their season come to an abrupt end. I believe it was on the same day last week.

SPEAKER_04

No, I think Woman's was the day before.

SPEAKER_00

It was the same p. That's okay. It was both on Wednesday.

SPEAKER_04

One was at 3 p.m., one was at 10 p.m.

SPEAKER_00

A little late. Late start. I don't like the late start.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, me neither. Especially when you lose.

SPEAKER_00

The women, you know, we talked last week. It was fresh off of an overtime thriller against the Tulane Green Wave. They then faced UTSA in the next round.

SPEAKER_03

Winning it for the women.

SPEAKER_00

They did?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, UTSA won.

SPEAKER_00

So that's not the first time, you know, we've lost to the then champion. Happened a couple years ago. We lost to Rice. They went on to win it. But anyway, all that to be said, Tebal Women's basketball, second round exit in the conference tournament. It does take a little sting that the team that they lost to won it all, but they obviously wanted more. Um Kayla Turner, really the MVP of the season as a season as a whole.

SPEAKER_04

For sure.

SPEAKER_00

I'd be curious to see uh the all-season for this team. Um I'm hoping the portal is a factor in our favor. Um but you never know how it is. Always the hope. Men's basketball, similar story. First round tournament exit loss to FAU. Just couldn't get couldn't get a hold of the other owls this year. 0-3. I believe we lost in one possession game at least twice to this team. I know we lost on the road in one possession game at home. I was at the game, it was a pretty close game. Just couldn't get over the hump this year. They they lost, feels like every you know, one close, close game. They were on the unfortunate side of the team that went on to win the conference though, USF, we beat them at home. So we can hang out with the whiteout game. You know, we just always win that white out game. Just death taxes, and Temple won the whiteout game. Um but yeah, we USF went on to win the tournament. They're now an 11th seed.

SPEAKER_02

Wow.

SPEAKER_00

Love them against Louisville, by the way. About his sixth matchup. Um, yeah, Temple basketball. We'll see. Jordan Mason, our guy. He's graduating. Gotta get frames back, gotta get hopefully Darien Ford back. Um he's a senior. Yeah, I think he has an extra year.

SPEAKER_03

Really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you don't know the sport, but it's clear. Okay. Sorry, that was me. All right, I felt bad about that one. All right, let's move to tennis. Uh men's tennis, women's tennis. I think women had a bye week last week. Men lost to Brown on the road but beat Bryant. So a little split action. I believe they were up in Providence. Um this time of year. They will be playing their first home match, both the men and women, on Thursday against Norfolk State. They were supposed to play on Wednesday at home, got canceled probably due to the weather. Uh so hopefully Thursday and catch the owls at home.

SPEAKER_04

On their brand new courts that they don't get to play on often.

SPEAKER_00

I said it last week. I'm not gonna beat a dead horse. But um, let's move to golf, who is just completed their tournament. Um, I believe they finished 11th out of 15. Um the team is struggling right now. I think some of their top players were out. I believe they're coming back into the lineup in the next few weeks. So hopefully they can get the ball rolling before their conference takes place in the middle of April. Let's talk Temple Lacrosse.

SPEAKER_04

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Which I attended my first game of the season at home. And kind of fake that this is the first game, but not really if you think about like, you know, this the schedule of the Division I athlete and you know when your games took place and yada yada yada.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, okay.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I felt like first conference game. Uh by the way, like, just gotta say off the bat, like, electric atmosphere. Like the parents on lacrosse, like I kind of knew this. Because you know, we've talked, big lacrosse fan, no big deal. Like the the atmosphere was electric, like pack stands, you know, a lot of USF fans, but the owl, just like a lot of owl fans, sat with Dave Gerson, just unbelievable guy. Um, just a lot of energy on that field. Um, it was a really cool experience, really good game, you know, throughout. Um you want to talk about talk about what happened? I mean, you guys were you guys were winning fourth quarter, looked like we had it.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That team was chippy though.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that team, we played the USF Bulls. We were just talking about USF. Um, yeah, they were a very physical team. We knew that going in. We talked about that a little bit last week, and we ended up falling short. We lost another game, second game in a row, losing by one point. Um definitely just shows that we need to like pay attention a little bit more to details. Like anything can cause one goal either way. So I think, you know, if there's such a thing, like I said last week, as a as a good loss, that was a good loss. We were in it, we were up at halftime, we were fighting, we never like took our foot off the gas. Um, but we play East Carolina this week at ECU, and we're ready. We're preparing well. We have a week to prepare for all these conference games, so that always gives you an advantage. And we have an eight-hour bus ride, so it's gonna be really fun.

SPEAKER_00

There you go. Love that. That's a that's a fun bus ride down to uh Greenville, North Carolina. Uh shall I mention the muffin now or should we save that for later?

SPEAKER_04

Well, it was at the lacrosse game, so I guess you could you could throw it in now if you want.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so you know, at the lacrosse game at halftime, I was honored to meet Amelia's parents, Dan and Stacy, who are, you know, like we said, those are The Owl Faithful. The Owl Faithful.

SPEAKER_04

The the CEO of the club, the founders.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, they are the CEO and founders of the Owl Faithful. And not only did I get to meet them and have a great conversation, but Stacy was nice enough to pick me up a banana rum muffin from the Amish. We're just gonna leave it the Amish.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, from Reading Turbo.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which we love the Amish streets. If there's if there's yeah, you know, I love the Amish streets. You know I love my muffins, and only someone who listens to the podcast as much as they do would know I love muffins. And uh this muffin lives up to that, you know what? I'm gonna be honest, okay? I was really grateful. I didn't know about a banana rum muffin.

SPEAKER_04

I've never heard of that either.

SPEAKER_00

I've never ventured to that side of muffins. Uh, but it was delicious. I had it right at the game, just felt appropriate. Didn't want it to like, you know, can't say it just right away. Uh got it down. It was that makes it sound like it was bad. No, it was actually delicious. Uh, you know, right up there.

SPEAKER_04

What do you rate it out of 10? Well, so be honest.

SPEAKER_00

I was as I was eating, I was like, how am I gonna describe this? And like, if you've ever been to Saxby's, it kind of reminded me of the cinnamon toast muffin at Saxby's.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Uh like the rum, I guess. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Just it reminded me of that muffin. But I'd even say it was a little bit better because the one at Saxby's a little too sugary.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

This one obviously it has some sugar in it, but it wasn't just like pure sugar.

SPEAKER_04

Like clumps, doesn't the cinnamon one have like Yeah, it was a little clump.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're right. It's a little clumpy.

SPEAKER_04

This the top is just we're going into detail here.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_04

But you didn't give us an out of ten.

SPEAKER_00

Out of ten, eight, three.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, that's solid.

SPEAKER_00

Great muffin. Yeah. Uh like I would go to that place to get a muffin.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

That's what that means. So yeah, thank you, Stacy. And hopefully, I think they're they said they're coming back up for another game later on this season.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, probably all the ones left.

SPEAKER_00

Sneaky, you don't have you don't have that many home games in this game.

SPEAKER_04

I know. I think we just have three left at this point, which is so sad.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, short conference schedule, too.

SPEAKER_04

Went by quick, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, well, let's wrap it up with Temple Gymnastics. This is where uh we'll we'll bring in Nikki because I always feel bad like talking about other people's sports for them when they're just on the show. That would that really wouldn't really make sense.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, no one can say it better than the people in it.

SPEAKER_00

Exactly. And Temple Gymnastics wrapped up their regular season this past weekend at GW, uh, who they'll see again this upcoming weekend at the Eagles Championships. Uh the Alves competed against GW, Towson, and Maryland. Uh a couple teams they've seen a lot throughout the season. And uh, yeah, we'll bring in Nikki here. It was overall, I thought it was, you know, for their last regular season meet, I thought I think the team's trending in the right direction. If you look at kind of their scores. Um, but Nikki, take us through kind of your thoughts on the meet as a whole and kind of moving into Eagle, you know, where you see the team going.

SPEAKER_05

Okay, yeah. So we started on bars on Sunday, Saturday. Sunday, yeah. Sunday, yeah, sorry. Um, yeah, so we had a good start. I feel like there was like a lot of good things, but um, I feel like we still need to work on cleaning up details like as a whole. We moved on to Beam. We had pretty consistent scores overall. Um, most of them were nine-sevens, right? So that was good. Um, going to floor, we had a bit like of like uncharacteristic mistakes. I feel like floor were usually um stronger on.

SPEAKER_00

That that's usually your one of if not your strongest event.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, especially like if we're at home, the energy at the end. But yeah, I don't know, it was a little bit um weird, not our best. And then we kind of ended strong, I'd say, on vault. I think we got Yeah, I'm looking at it.

SPEAKER_00

It looks like you guys got a 48.925, which was definitely your highest season.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, definitely. Um so yeah, we've been working overall like as a vault squad just because like most of our girls are a bit younger. We only have, I think, Amelia being the only upperclassman on that lineup, so it's just nice to see how we've been able to kind of like rally at the end of meets. But yeah, I think we were like a bit over three tenths below like our um like our team personal record. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so that was good.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so Vault was really impressive because you know that's the last rotation. And the last three scores went nine, eight, nine, eight, five, nine, eight, seven, five. So you just continue to build, and obviously for Vault, anything above a nine, eight, you know, was really good.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so it was just it was really good to I feel like to end the meet on that note. Yeah. And I feel like, you know, going into Eagle, just kind of looking at how the team's trending. Um, I feel like, you know, your floor, like you said, it was a kind of an uncharacteristic meet for you guys on floor, but I feel like that's an event where you know, if we look at how what happened last Eagle on floor, I believe you has had like your easily the highest score you had all season in that competition. I feel like um for Eagle, it's gonna come down to your bars and beam, uh, which have been trending again in a better direction. So I guess, you know, looking ahead to Eagle now, um, obviously I'm sure this week of practice isn't gonna be anything too crazy. What are you guys really focusing on as you prepare for obviously the biggest meat of the season?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so we had practice today, and then we have practice again on Thursday and like a light day Friday, but I think it's really just being very intentional with what we're doing this week, kind of focusing more on obviously like we've been focusing on details like throughout all season, but I think more like as a whole, because I feel like uh what happens a lot at our meets is like uh maybe like a few people have a good day, and there's like one thing that like is kind of off. So I feel like for Eagle, we're really just focusing on like whoever like the same amount of people that are competing should be the same amount of people that are having a good day, if that makes sense. Yeah, kind of just like pulling it all together. So I feel like for this week we're just trying to be very intentional with our training, um, kind of having a confident mindset since now to like walk in on the day of the meet, like ready to go. But yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That makes that makes sense. If I I'd be remiss if we're talking about Eagle. Obviously, I'm sure you saw, did you see the Eagle announced first and second team all Eagle for the regular season? And Nikki, I saw your name pop up a couple times. Uh, first team on vault, second team on floor. Obviously, you've had a great season, you're only a sophomore uh in your second year. Obviously, some other people highlight as well from the all-eagle team. Amelia was first team on vault as well. Uh Robin was you know, first team on bars and beam. Um Megan, who we had on the podcast, was second team on beam. Haley was first team on beam, and then see a freshman, Ava Sutton, was uh second team on bars. So a lot of the owls getting recognized uh at the conference level for their performance throughout the regular season. I guess Nikki, looking at it for yourself, like I said, you're only a sophomore all legal on two events. What's kind of led uh to that success this season? Obviously, you competed a lot last year, you had a lot of success. This year you've been consistently on three events, obviously having a lot of success on vault and floor and also on beam. Um, what's kind of allowed you to be in that position this year as an underclassman?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, so I feel like the transition from our team like last year to now, obviously, we have a lot younger of a team. We had a lot of fifth years and seniors leave last year that definitely like carried their weight on the team. So I feel like this year we kind of just focused on like stepping it up really, like even the freshmen like going in, like they knew like what their job was, and like it was never like a mindset like oh, just because we're freshmen doesn't mean we have to like or like we're not gonna make lineup or anything. I think for me a big thing that I worked on over the summer and like I kind of just reflected on last year was like confidence. So I feel like I tried to kind of tune in on that and just like trust myself a little bit more. Um that obviously helped me like build consistency and I think also just like being in the lineup on three events, like it is like a lot of pressure as a sophomore, but I feel like my coaches put me there like for a reason, and like also having the trust of my teammates behind me kind of just makes me trust myself more. Like it's nice to know that they can depend on me when they need to.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, obviously, this team is super young, only the one senior with Reese. So I obviously as you look forward, I'm sure they're gonna depend on you the next couple years to also fill you know spots on three events. But you know, I think it's yeah, it's obviously great, you know, being first team on ball, second team on floor. Um, so congrats on on all of your success this year.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Um it's been really cool to watch, and you know, we're excited for for this upcoming weekend, hopefully. And I think obviously we look at the standings right now. I believe we're we're sitting in third place.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um but like what happened last year, you found yourself competing right there for the championship, you know, right to the end, came down like the last rotation.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um is there anything that feels different about the actual meet? Obviously, you've done this before last year. Um, I think even the judging, I believe there's more judges present at the meet, the scores get a little bit tighter.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Is there anything on the actual day that feels different, or do you try to keep it as consistent as possible?

SPEAKER_05

Um, I think I try to keep it as consistent as possible. Like I try to put pressure on myself, kind of like even if we're not at eagle, like even if it's just like a regular practice or a regular competition. Um and I think the team also does a good job of like treating every day like it's eagle. Like I feel like we say that out, like pretend it's eagle. Like, what would you do if it was eagle? Um I kind of forgot your question.

SPEAKER_00

No, I think I think yeah, you you you're trying to keep it consistent, like you don't you don't let the need feel like it's anything.

SPEAKER_05

I feel like it's maybe a little bit more intense because I feel like I know last year we did a lot of like prep with we like had someone come talk to us, then we got like letters from our like our parents and all that. So I think that kind of made it feel more intense, like the emotional side. But yeah, no, I try to keep it as consistent as I can. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's good. Voice cracks. Holy cow, sorry, I haven't talked in a second. Yeah, that's good. Um, we always ask, Megan had a really cool like story when we asked this question, but we always ask everyone that comes on the pod, like, how did you get to Temple? Megan told us a little bit, very different than at least my recruiting process, but like about gymnastics Instagram pages and stuff, but like just give us your perspective on how you got to Temple, how you like campus, all that.

SPEAKER_05

Um, so actually, the I low-key like didn't really do the recruiting process like correctly. Like I was sending videos and all that, and like I feel like I just wasn't getting enough feedback back. So by the end of like my senior year, I was just kind of like going with the flow. I didn't even know if like I still wanted to do gymnastics in college, and then I ended up having a really good senior season, and then I got injured and I had to get surgery on my shoulder. Um, but Temple was always like one of the only schools that were like reaching out, and I just kind of like left them there. Like, I don't know. And then in the middle of the summer, they invited me to come like on an official visit, and I accepted because I was like, why not? Like, I don't have anything else to do. Um, so I came and I like immediately like I loved the atmosphere. I know it's like Philly and like people have like mixed opinions or whatever, but like I love Philly, I loved the campus. Um it was definitely like a different scenery from like what I was used to at home because I'm from Florida, so like you know, but yeah, I think I just really fell in love with the campus and like what the coaches were dedicated to. Um yeah, Temple was my only visit, so like I got here and I committed.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. I think we both are always I think our processes for recruiting, just our sports, are very different. So like when you say, like, oh I was sending videos to the coaches, like I I gotta ask, like, I'm always like amazed by this. Like, do you just like videos at practice? We just like upload a video and like, hey Joel, like see attach see attached clip from my bar routine.

SPEAKER_05

Like, how does that like yeah? No, basically, like obviously, like we have coaches like come in, like college coaches come in and watch us, and then at like certain competitions, a lot of college coaches will be there. Like, I'm sure other sports do that too. But um, yeah, there's certain like programs you can do like to get someone to help you with recruiting, and then a lot of girls just like get emails that they find online, like on rosters or anything, and then what my coach made me do would make like would be like make a like a highlight tape, like a highlight reel of like all my videos from practice. A lot of the coaches like are looking for specific things, like they like seeing a bunch of your skills in a row, or like my coach would always say like start with something that's like eye-catching. So, like for me, I'd always put like my vault first in the video. Um, but yeah, it's usually just like hi coach, whatever. Here are my videos from practice this week, or like here are my highlights from the competition. That's so different.

SPEAKER_00

It's just it's just interesting. Every sport, every person here has a different journey. Obviously, you mentioned you're from Florida. Yeah. Sometimes in the winter, I I just think like, how could someone possibly from Florida ever choose to come here?

SPEAKER_01

I mean, you're from Georgia.

SPEAKER_04

They're it was a tough decision, and when it's cold, like today it feels like 20.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah, like you have to miss that.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, definitely. For sure. Especially if people are like obviously like my friends are a lot a lot of them are still like in Florida because they go to USF or FAU, whatever, all that. So like obviously it's not really nice seeing them like post at the beach for Christmas, but like and you're in like three jackets exactly, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Walking through a wind tunnel.

SPEAKER_05

No, especially last year, like the incline at Morgan, that was like one of my best. Morgan went to the city. I can't believe like this is my life now.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that must have been a a trip. Did you see have you ever seen snow before you got to Philly?

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I had, but like not as it was like actively like plowing you in the face, you know. Yeah. Disturbing your day, yeah. Exactly, yeah. Like in the winter. Never to the like point of disturbance, but yeah, I had seen snow before. Um I also like didn't know that I'm gonna tell him like slow, but I didn't know that like winter was like this long. I thought like I didn't know why they're he grew up in this and he's talking about it.

SPEAKER_01

I I've never like I don't know if I like forget things like from my childhood, but like I've never experienced a harsher winter than this.

SPEAKER_04

It's the worst one, at least in my five years.

SPEAKER_05

In my brain, like as soon as I don't know. Like as soon as it's like December, it's like okay, it's cold now, and then like January is like a bit chilly, and then it's like cool. Really? But like no. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

My timeline's a little bit different. I'm more of like December is winter, and then like February, the end of February should be like it, and March should be nice.

SPEAKER_01

But here, March is is almost as bad as February.

SPEAKER_05

It's just very like bipolar.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, like last week they tease you, they give you like 280 degrees. That was amazing. And then they snow on you. So yeah, the Philly weather, I it's a great city, there's no doubt. Like I think we have a windier city than Chicago, which is what I said that my parents finally agreed this weekend because we're like off minutes. The wind at your game was ridiculous, by the way. Um so yeah, I mean, I was just people coming from Florida here, that's like I think that's like real dedication. For me, it's like this is like my backyard basically, so it's like not as impressive, but coming from Florida, that's yeah, definitely a change, but it's okay. All right. Well, like we said, we'll be we'll be tuning in.

SPEAKER_05

Wait, where is Eagle Championships? We didn't share that yet. Oh, it's at LIU. Okay, yes.

SPEAKER_04

And it's Saturday?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's Saturday.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Nikki, I think you should know that. I'm so I don't think I've actually looked at my calendar.

SPEAKER_01

Nikki's not sure, but we can assure you she'll be there.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, uh definitely beyond be on the bus and she'll get ready.

SPEAKER_01

I'm not trying to be Mr. Negative out here.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you usually are.

SPEAKER_01

Um I just keep it real. No big deal. Um LIU hosting Eagle.

SPEAKER_05

No.

SPEAKER_01

It's kind of a joke.

SPEAKER_05

I think that should be the foul.

SPEAKER_01

That that actually we we could just we'll we'll save that.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I mean, last year was at Leo Course, and I'm sorry, I don't think any venue could probably I've never been to any of these schools in your conference, but like no one in our conference can top Leo Course.

SPEAKER_00

I'm okay with that. Yeah. It's we'll get into it. We'll save this for the foul. But it's more of the discrepancy between Leah Course and this whatever venue you want to call it. I'll just leave it at that. Let's move on to Amelia's favorite segment. That would be Temple Takes.

SPEAKER_01

Can you uh give us the overview and the title of this week's Temple Takes?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, for those that have never listened or just need a little reminder, because we kind of change the rules every time, actually. Um Temple Takes, basically, we usually have a theme, and we just hit you with overrated, underrated, get super passionate about it sometimes. Like probably need to take a chill pill most of the time.

SPEAKER_00

You know what I've realized? We just learn about everyone's like really like their preferences. Sometimes we start with a topic and then we'll just start talking about something completely different, and like turns out you love Subway, and I don't I still haven't figured that out.

SPEAKER_04

It's always I like Subway and you like muffins. That's what the fans know.

SPEAKER_01

That's the only thing we figured out from Temple Takes.

SPEAKER_04

But this week, this week we're doing St. Patrick's Day theme. Like we said, today, the day we're filming, is St. Patrick's Day. I believe everyone in the room is wearing green, but it's only appropriate that we do St.

SPEAKER_01

Patrick's Day theme.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. We get creative with our Temple Take themes, so yeah. I guess we could start off with that one. Wearing the color green.

SPEAKER_01

This is the wearing, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, well, that's what I just said.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Well, you start.

SPEAKER_04

Well, I just said I think all of us in the room are wearing green, so like we all may think it's stupid. I do think it's overrated, but I'm probably still gonna do it every year.

SPEAKER_01

Like, yeah. I I think it's a little like so you're saying just like underrated.

SPEAKER_04

No, I actually just said overrated.

SPEAKER_01

Oh. I'm not I'm not listening. Yeah, you rarely listen. Let's be honest.

SPEAKER_04

I guess, well, are we going like wearing the color green on St. Patrick's Day or just in general?

SPEAKER_01

No, no, on St. Patrick's Day.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I'm going overrated.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Like I'm gonna do it. Yeah, I think it's overrated. I did it just to avoid like some pinches here and there. Yeah. Um, which we'll talk about again.

SPEAKER_00

Uh wearing the color green is I just think I'm not a big like wear the theme on like a given day. You know, you're different, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Not like other boys.

SPEAKER_00

I just think it's a little like sometimes I just get a little like I don't like the word ick because I feel like that's like more of a girl term. Am I right? Is that wrong?

SPEAKER_05

Like, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I I just don't like when I'm like on peme? Like like themed. Like I don't themes kind of like gross me out. Like, I don't know. I'll give you another example. If it's like, oh, like we're going out, like everyone wear white.

SPEAKER_04

It's like, oh why? So you're gonna show up in all black, like what's it?

SPEAKER_01

No, it's just I don't know. I just think that stuff rubs me the wrong way.

SPEAKER_05

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

I don't want I don't want to think about it.

SPEAKER_05

I feel like if it's for a specific holiday though, like I think it should get like a tiny bit of a pass.

SPEAKER_04

If it's like on a wedding day, it is kind of fun sometimes. Yeah, like because I don't wear green, but like Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

I mean, I like if we were talking about like in general wearing the color green, like I like green. And I like camo, as you can see by my pants.

SPEAKER_01

Camo. I didn't even realize that's like green.

SPEAKER_05

No. I like green.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, so you're underrated, we're overrated.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Alright.

SPEAKER_04

I do definitely disagree on like the theme thing, though. I love I love a theme.

SPEAKER_05

And my I feel like it's also because like in Spirit Week, like high school, middle school, all that. My mom was like a you need to participate, like type of person. So like I don't know. I feel like I just like a good theme. Yeah. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

It gets you out of your comfort zone. Okay, I don't know where we're gonna go with this next one.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, this is where it gets controversial.

SPEAKER_04

Um I guess we're going gingers, like as a whole, as a population. Oh, I'm gonna go underrated. I gotta give a shout-out to my girl Sarah Gauman. She is our team ginger.

SPEAKER_00

I don't think this was the topic. I don't remember talking about it.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know why we wrote it down on the board, but it's down there.

SPEAKER_00

This is gonna get us in trouble.

SPEAKER_04

No, I talked about it before we started recording. I love leprechauns. I love ginger, so I'm going underrated.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, I love leprechauns too. What's not the love? And I like I have nothing against who's gonna say he's gonna come on the podcast and be like, ginger's overrated. What does that even mean? Shear it probably would. Like what does that mean? Like ginger is like, yeah, there's there's nothing wrong with it.

SPEAKER_04

Like they're rated. I don't know. Some people hate gingers. Oh wait, I remember why we want to talk about it. Oh, but the run thing. Yeah, so some colleges they do like this is overrated.

SPEAKER_00

That's why.

SPEAKER_04

Some some colleges too, I don't even know what it's called. Like a ginger run? Yeah, a ginger run where they like, I think run up a hill. Like nothing too crazy, but it's a battle of the gingers. Like a run just for gingers. Yeah. And it's so funny to see it on TikTok with like actually so many people watching them. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Alright, so this is all right. This is I'm really glad you actually mentioned that because this was this is I knew this was gonna upset me, but I forgot why. Um this is like part of a larger like trend of like groups of people getting together because they have like something in common that is like super random. Have you guys seen this? No, like like I think there's like something for like left-handed people.

SPEAKER_04

You would be in the muffin club, so like what's wrong with it?

SPEAKER_00

Sure, but like I don't understand, like, like, for example, this like ginger run where it's like a bunch of like gingers just get together and go for a run. I don't even understand that. Like, it's just to me that it's like why can't we just not do that? Like, why? Like, what is the point of that?

SPEAKER_04

Some people think it's fun, it's like a tradition at some schools, I think. I guess it's like a long sentence.

SPEAKER_05

Like gingers, I guess. Like, I don't really know.

SPEAKER_01

Uh I I guess like ginger is people underrated?

SPEAKER_00

The whole running ginger thing, like running gingers is overrated for Dave.

SPEAKER_04

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

That's where I sit.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. You're indifferent, Nikki.

SPEAKER_05

I don't know.

SPEAKER_00

I this is really like a horrible question.

SPEAKER_05

No, I think the ginger run may be like overrated, but gingers as a population.

SPEAKER_00

We can't like rate populations. This is like not okay.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, we were kind of stretching the theme a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Someone like come on the podcast and be like, ginger. I don't know why. Like, what? Like okay, I see. I guess we move on. I'm gonna put that one on you, Amelia. I'm sorry.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, um, you put all of this on me. Yeah, true. You said I was being uncreative, so I got creative with the gingers.

SPEAKER_01

Next one's good.

SPEAKER_04

No, let's let's go to a different one. Let's do let's do pinching people since you already talked about it a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

Great.

SPEAKER_04

You wore green to not get pinched, is that what you said?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, exactly. I don't know. Pinching people, I didn't even know there was a thing until today. No way.

SPEAKER_04

Dude, all of elementary school I remember like getting pinched.

SPEAKER_01

I didn't I didn't know it was a thing. Really didn't.

SPEAKER_04

Dude, where did you like grow up? Did you have a childhood?

SPEAKER_00

No, I so just to go off on this point, because it's funny you say that. How I had a teammate the other day. Uh you're not gonna believe me. I I mean I believe me because I I know this to be true.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

But I was sitting down before practice, and one of my teammates was like, You look like Humpty Dumpty. And I was like, I was like, who's that?

SPEAKER_04

Wait, why is that kind of accurate?

SPEAKER_00

I was like, who is that?

unknown

Oh my god.

SPEAKER_00

And they were like, you don't know Humpty Dumpty? And I was like, I've never heard of that before.

SPEAKER_04

Hello?

SPEAKER_00

And then they were like, dude, you're like so old, like you didn't have a childhood, like what's that?

SPEAKER_04

That actually is kind of crazy. That's like I never like heard of that. Humpty Dumpty sat, Humpty Dumpty sat on the wall, Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I never knew any of that stuff. So I was just like So did you look it up and now you do it? No, so this guy like said this, and it was like super early in the morning. We have like in morning practice, and I just looked at him like, I don't know what that means. Like I just like I wasn't offended. I was like, I was like, I'm tired, like shut up. And then because I didn't react, they were like, Do you know what that means? Because this is kind of an ongoing thing. Like, I my team is that you don't know things? That they like they'll be like, Do you know this? And I'll be like, no, and they're like, of course you don't know it. Like they'll just like ask me something.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they they love doing that. So like I love it's that it's not just me.

SPEAKER_00

This is this is the same thing. Like, I never have heard of that.

SPEAKER_05

That's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

Now I'm starting to question my childhood.

SPEAKER_05

I don't think I remembered pinching was a thing until like you mentioned it earlier. I don't know. I like why is it I don't know why it's a thing.

SPEAKER_01

It's so it's so overrated. Like I didn't wear green. Whoop de doo, like leave me alone.

SPEAKER_04

I'm going overrated too. I think it's stupid. Yeah. But I think it's funny that like the people that do it are so passionate about it. Yes, that is true. Like Amelia. So passionate. Not this Amelia. Please don't put that in.

SPEAKER_00

Amelia, but like I saw her pinch multiple people with that.

SPEAKER_04

That is like that's so funny.

SPEAKER_00

Like she was like, not green, not green.

SPEAKER_04

I was like, like just random people on the street or just people she know.

SPEAKER_00

No, like random, no, no, obviously people she knew. Random people she's like, she wasn't just going with random people pinching them. Could you imagine going downtown?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's it.

SPEAKER_00

I could see Amelia doing that too. I think if you told her to, she I think she would do that.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, okay, which one do we want to do next?

SPEAKER_01

I like the the one that you just for some reason skipped over.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, I'm sorry I skipped it. Let's uh let's go Darty.

SPEAKER_00

Why are you so like did everyone hear how hesitant she was to say that? She's like, let's go uh Darty. Like, you think we're gonna get in trouble for saying this or something?

SPEAKER_04

No, I don't think we're gonna get in trouble, but um yeah, I I I think it is funny. Like St. Paddy's Day is like the only time I really feel like Darties are like really evident.

SPEAKER_00

They're so evident on campus.

SPEAKER_04

And I might I I I'll start us off. Underrated.

SPEAKER_00

Care to explain? Because I don't understand.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know how much I can elaborate. Like uh uh like okay, this is really funny. Every year we have a game like on the weekend of St. Patty's Day. So our field is right by like the Temple frats, so we walk past and we see like you see them actively dartying, and it's can you explain what a darty is to our audience? Oh sorry, for the for the folks that don't know, day party. So a rager, I would say usually at like a big house. Like these frats at like these two specific frats at Temple, I don't even know their names, but they have like a big lawn and you're outside and you're basking in the sun and you're having fun with your friends.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Orange juice, apple juice, all juice. Yeah, orange juice, apple juice, uh orgs. I like hate Darties.

SPEAKER_05

Okay. Like every Darty or like just St. Patty's Darties?

SPEAKER_00

That's a good question. I I would just keep it specific to St. Patty's Darty.

SPEAKER_04

I just think like have you ever experienced one though?

SPEAKER_00

I don't need to.

SPEAKER_04

Because I've only experienced one at Temple.

SPEAKER_00

You don't need to experience something to hate on it. You just know like I would not like that. Okay, okay. That's how I feel about Darties because, first of all, I my apartment is plugged right between two of them. Okay, this is why you're really passionate. So, like, I try to, you know, just enjoy my Saturday afternoon and it feels like I'm at like an Avici concert or something. I don't know. I'm just like, what rip by the way? Um but it's just like why is it so loud in here? So then I went outside and just kind of you know just scanned the the area, you know. I went on my rooftop, I was just looking out, and I just realized like the people that were at these darties, like I have absolutely nothing in common with any of these people. They're all carrying around like jugs of you know, apple juice, orange juice, maybe some pineapple juice in there. I don't know. And I was just like, this crowd is like very just not for me.

SPEAKER_04

It's college students, like you're a college student, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

But it no, it wasn't just that, it was just like a lot, it was a lot, and I was just like, this is totally not my vibe.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, um and your feelings are valid.

SPEAKER_01

I think that's just where I'm at with darties. I just don't understand. Like, can we just keep it inside? I don't know. I don't I don't get it. It was it wasn't even nice out.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, I feel like maybe if it was warm. Um I've never experienced a St. Paddy's Darty because also we're in like season, so like we're usually away. Yeah. Um so I feel like I kind of feel left out. Like, I want to experience before you give an explicit opinion on it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, she'll have to get back to us. Yeah, maybe next year.

SPEAKER_01

I wish I had that level of like maturity, just be like, I'm not gonna say something because I don't know, but I I just said But you're passionate about the things that you don't like, and true. Also, how do they get how do they get those jugs to even be green? Has anyone figured that out? Like Mio's.

SPEAKER_05

I guess like food coloring or like Kool-Aid packets. Oh, that's nice.

SPEAKER_01

That's nice. Let's just put food coloring on our drinks now.

SPEAKER_04

Well, you know, like you can buy those lemonade drops, like that's they write like on their darts, they write like on their boards, and then they're all over the street. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I actually helped some lady pull out a board from under her car yesterday.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, look at you helping the just you know, community guy, no big deal.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Huge community guy.

SPEAKER_01

Let's move, let's move off the arties because I'm gonna say something.

SPEAKER_04

Okay, this one was kind of creative. I'm gonna give a shout out. Dave thought of it. Are we going lucky charms as in like superstitions, or are we going let's we can do lucky charms as a cereal, and then like what are your lucky charms?

SPEAKER_01

Hey, you were like hating on this what we're even talking about. I don't understand.

SPEAKER_04

You're like I'm not hating on it. I just like I was laughing at my voice. I went lucky charm.

SPEAKER_01

Why don't you start with the cereal and then go into if you have any superstitions?

SPEAKER_04

Okay, yeah. I'm saying Lucky Charms is underrated. My friend made um Lucky Charm Rice Krispie Treats this week to celebrate obviously such a fun holiday. And they were amazing. It kind of like re-sparked like dang, that's a good cereal. I love the marshmallows. That's the kid in me, I guess. But I'm not gonna go on my way to go buy them, not gonna lie. But I agree. I think Lucky Charms are underrated and they're they're yummy. Um, lucky charms, as in like what is lucky for me. I'll go like game day, like um, I just have like a routine, a very specific routine. Um, like I usually get my calves massaged, and then I go outside an hour before, and then I have to do wall ball to a specific song that is not um probably good for me to say the title of um and then what are you talking about right now? Game day routine. Like that's my superstitious.

SPEAKER_00

Guy, the the first thing you're like, yeah, I have really interesting routine. So with uh, you know, my calves game like what are you talking about? Like that's the first thing that you do in your routine.

SPEAKER_04

It's like uh at 9 30, I get my calves massaged, and then around after that I do my slick, and then at 10 I go to the wall ball and I put on one specific song and then I go shoot with my friends, and then Lexi gives me some feeds and then I'm good.

SPEAKER_05

What if you have like a game in the morning though?

SPEAKER_04

Then I just have to move it up even. But we we play games at 12, so like if you go earlier than that, it's like calves 930 sharp.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Usually. Always.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_05

That's my lucky charm.

SPEAKER_01

Alright, Nikki, you wanna you wanna comment on Lucky Charms?

SPEAKER_05

Um, yeah, as a cereal, I love lucky charms. I feel like I like anything that's like more sweet than like anything. Like I have a really big sweet tooth, so like obviously I'm gonna like marshmallows in my cereal. Yeah. Um, and then my lucky charms, like superstitions. I feel like I always have to wear the same like earring studs because we're not allowed to wear hoops. And then I usually have pasta like the night before. Mostly because it's like good, like phenomenal taste. Yeah. And I also really like pasta. And then we're like a specific type of pasta.

SPEAKER_04

I'm I usually do spaghetti and meatballs before.

SPEAKER_05

Well, when I was younger, it would be spaghetti and meatballs, but now it's just like low-key any pasta. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I will I think like, sorry to interrupt here, but I just gotta say, I'm I'm also a huge pasta fanatic. I eat pasta basically every night. I will say, like rigatoni is clearly the best like shape for pasta.

SPEAKER_04

It's like trending upwards. I don't remember it being like very popular, but now it's like everywhere.

SPEAKER_01

Am I wrong? Does anyone disagree with that?

SPEAKER_04

Like, not really.

SPEAKER_01

Like spaghetti? No.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know if I love it for every single topping, but I think it's it's up there, it's growing. I'm I'm liking it. I love rigatoni. I think it's very versatile.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's exactly right.

SPEAKER_04

God, she's good at this. She's good. She's better at the best. She's got good takes.

SPEAKER_01

And fair, like fair takes. The Darty take was very mature. I can't get by that. I wish I I wish I could do that. Um, alright. I like that. I will say Lucky Charms, the cereal. I just want the marshmallows.

SPEAKER_04

Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

I'll say what no one else was willing to say.

SPEAKER_04

I I said the marshmallows were the best part.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. You said their best part, but like that's the only part that like would get me to ever portable of Lucky Charms. Um just to kind of say a thing you said. Superstition.

SPEAKER_00

Superstitions. Um Do you want to hear like a funny story about this or no?

SPEAKER_04

Yes, I'd love to.

SPEAKER_01

So it's actually kind of mean. I kind of feel like bad telling a story to the public. But when I was in high school, I had this like really big race, and my grandma had just gotten back from like Japan or something.

SPEAKER_04

I'm so scared.

SPEAKER_00

And she like before like the night before they before it wasn't like because of the race, but she just like gave me this like lucky charm, like actual like charm.

SPEAKER_01

And like my grandma's like kind of into that stuff a little bit, and she like told me, like, oh, like this is from Japan, and like it's supposed to give you luck, and like put it on your bag. So I like put it on my bag, and then I went to go to the race, and like it was like a really bad race.

SPEAKER_00

Like, it was just like a really bad race.

SPEAKER_04

I was I was waiting for something bad. I'm not gonna lie.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't like yeah, it was like cross-country race in high school. I might have been like a sophomore or junior, and like it just like I just had a really bad race, and I took the charge. And I just like threw them in the woods.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, there was it was like a whole thing, it wasn't just one.

SPEAKER_00

No, it was like just like the little like dangly thing. I just like chucked it.

SPEAKER_04

They so dramatic.

SPEAKER_00

And then I felt bad, so I went and like go found them on my corn. Did you actually find them? Yeah, I found them, and then I brought them back and I just like you're like, I don't want these anymore. I just felt bad. And then I like calmed down. I went to go out the charms. I put them back in my bag and I just never like showed them again. That's funny. After that, I was like, forget the charms. Superstitions, I love pasta for a race, but when we travel, it's kind of hard to get like so.

SPEAKER_01

I I just kind of don't get too obsessed over that. I would say like I just can't race with it's gonna sound a little weird. I just can't race with like socks on.

SPEAKER_04

Oh god. What?

SPEAKER_01

So even if it's like cold or like rainy or whatever, I can't have socks on.

SPEAKER_00

But when you like like normally practice, you kind of I only ever don't wear even when I'm practicing in spikes, you know, we wear like those shoes with the spikes. If I'm practicing, I'll wear socks with them.

SPEAKER_01

But when I'm racing, I can't wear socks with them. So like the only time I feel spikes with no socks is when I'm racing. And it was like we had a couple mites in the fall where it was like really cold, but I I just could not put socks on. So that's my superstition.

SPEAKER_05

Is that even comfortable or like do you not care?

SPEAKER_00

It's just like I think why because like when I wear a sock in my sock, I feel like I like feel my foot like slipping around a little bit more in the shoe. And like the spikes. Yeah, when I wear a sock, because like when I'm my my barefoot is like more grippy to the spike. You know what I'm saying? Like there's not like frictioned.

SPEAKER_05

I agree. I feel like it'd be the opposite.

SPEAKER_00

No, like because like in a sock, like if you think about like think about this. When you when you're running as a kid and you like do that thing where you slide on the floor when you're socks, like on hardwood floors, yeah, yeah, you slide. Okay, but if you're in barefoot, you just like would fall over.

SPEAKER_04

So but aren't spikes like really tight?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. They're like they're basically they feel like you're socks. They're like nothing. Yeah. Okay. So that's my superstition. That I don't know like a big I don't like talking about feet.

SPEAKER_04

See, I kinda am. I feel like I am superstitious. Me too. Okay, last but not least. I mean, we already talked about wearing the color green. Now let's go. Eating the color green, which does not sound right when you just say it off the show. It sounds terrible, and it is, because but like if you know, you know, like like Shamrock Shakespeare is one that we talked about, um, the bagels that we get in the lounge.

SPEAKER_00

Nutran, I think it's everywhere. The dyeing bagels green.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. Wait, also, like, this is irrelevant, but like dyeing the river in Chicago green, or like in Florida green. I also kind of forgot that, but now that we're talking about green, like that's kind of crazy that they dye the river.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's too much. I don't know. I agree. I think it's just like okay.

SPEAKER_05

But eating green is no, I like eating colors. Really? Wait, that sounds so weird. I know, but like I just like again, like I like stuff like with a theme. Like, I don't know, I like whimsical drinks. Like really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we were like wait, didn't you mention uh before we start recording the grimace? What was that?

SPEAKER_05

I did you like it? I don't I think it was bad, but I think I just wanted to.

SPEAKER_00

You can get it again.

SPEAKER_05

Probably because maybe the second time they do it over. Exactly. Like maybe it wasn't like too it was like too purple, you know. Like, I don't know, like I don't know. But yeah, I just like when things are like weird and like I mean it's it's more exciting, I'll add it.

SPEAKER_00

I think it's that.

SPEAKER_05

Like it just like adds to it.

SPEAKER_00

I can't eat a green bagel.

SPEAKER_01

I just can't do it.

SPEAKER_05

Well, did you eat the heart, like the red heart bagels for Valentine? Tine's Day. Those were pretty fire. I didn't even see those.

SPEAKER_04

Those were a thing? Yeah. They had them in the lounge. Yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Maybe that was it was maybe it was last year. That's adorable.

SPEAKER_04

But they I would eat that, but for some reason, the green bagels that they have are so dark green. I you know, I did see that. It was a big bagel.

SPEAKER_01

That was like orange, green, and white. Did you see that? No, I didn't. No, no, no. For the Irish? For the Irish flower. It was like a big time like color bagel.

SPEAKER_05

Oh wow. Wow. I missed out on that one.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I gotta go look at bagels more. It was crazy. Uh yeah, eating green, like yeah, just no.

SPEAKER_04

So Nikki's going to mention Nikki's going underrated, you're going overrated, and you don't want to elaborate.

SPEAKER_01

I don't think, yeah, I don't think anyone wants to understand why, but that's fine.

SPEAKER_04

Okay. Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um just leave it there.

SPEAKER_04

I kind of agree with Nikki. I think it is fun to like have a theme, and recently I feel like coffee shops, especially around Philly, have been like going crazy on themes and stuff. Like Richie's, we talked about that last week. They always do fun themes, but like I've been seeing ones that have like lucky charms on them. And like I would I would try like a green coffee or something just to say you tried it, you know. Something about the shamrock shake though is like different.

SPEAKER_01

But like I don't know why before that as a kid.

SPEAKER_04

I've never tried it, but I probably should one day. Is it like mint?

SPEAKER_00

It's minty, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I do love like mint chocolate chip.

SPEAKER_00

So yo, I had the yeah, I had the craziest mint chocolate chip ice cream experience this past weekend.

SPEAKER_04

Are you gonna share it now? Like, what do you mean the craziest? The best ever?

SPEAKER_00

Dude, it was crazy actually. So I was getting ice cream and like I was with Amelia and it was like Amelia Bud. And we went to this ice cream spot in South Philly, and they we were like, can we?

SPEAKER_05

Wait, which one do you know?

SPEAKER_00

Nah, I don't know. Like 2900 I don't know, sorry.

SPEAKER_05

Oh, Van Luen's or something?

SPEAKER_00

Maybe. Okay.

SPEAKER_05

That's like a fancy one. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Van Luen's? No, it wasn't fancy.

SPEAKER_05

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

So we we like go and order, like, hey, can we get the mint chocolate chip? And before she even like served it, she was like, Yeah, just so let you know, like, you might want to try it. It's got a different like taste than most, and automatically I'm like red flag. Like that's not a good spoon. So I'm like, okay, yeah, let's let's get the like the little spoon to try it. She hands it to us. I take a bite. I was like, Did I just eat an edible? I was like, she's like, it's no, no, before I eat it, she's like, it's got a little bit of an earthy taste. I was like, I don't, I don't know what the beep that means. I'm like, okay, so I take a bite, it's like I look at it, I'm like, did I just eat an edible? And I like I start looking around, like, are we in like a weed shop? Did I like like mess this up?

SPEAKER_04

It tastes like grass.

SPEAKER_00

I'm looking around, like, it tasted like an edible. Like weed. Like the smell of weed, it tasted like that. That's really sad. And I was like, uh, that's not what other flavors do you recommend? It's like they all have this little kick. But it was the way I was like, I gently pivoted to like a different one. And I'm and we tried. I gently pivoted. I didn't want to offend her. I was like, I don't think we're gonna.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, she gave you like a tiny warning. If she didn't, I would have been pissed.

SPEAKER_00

Because then she served us like two big scoops. Whoa, that's that would have been a lot of earth. That would have been a lot of earthy mint.

SPEAKER_04

That's funny.

SPEAKER_00

Mint chocolate chip. And also like the color wasn't green.

SPEAKER_04

I hate when it's not green. When you get mint chocolate chip and it's white, it's like, what are we doing? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I agree. Add the dice to that. That's the one green thing I'll eat.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, add the dice to that, not to my bagels. I don't want to.

SPEAKER_00

What about mint chocolate chip water ice?

SPEAKER_04

I've I don't think I've ever had that. People say the one at Rita's is really good, though.

SPEAKER_00

Have you ever had Rita's? Is that a thing? Yeah, yeah. Yeah, Rita's is the thing down south?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah. I had one, but they closed.

SPEAKER_00

Really?

SPEAKER_04

I think I have one left in that land. I don't think I ever tried it though.

SPEAKER_00

I thought that was a northeast thing. Apparently not.

SPEAKER_04

Good things come down under too.

SPEAKER_00

I like Wawa.

SPEAKER_04

Dude, it skipped, it skipped over Georgia though. It went right to Florida. You guys don't have Wawa? No. I think it's for the what are they called? The snowbirds.

SPEAKER_00

What what was the uh sorry, now we're gonna go off topic here, but we'll wrap this up in a sec. What uh what was like the initial reaction from Floridians when uh Wawa made its way down south? Like was it like a hit?

SPEAKER_05

Or were they like Yeah, I think it was definitely a hit. I think we have something like similar. I don't know, maybe like speedway, I guess. I that could definitely be a little bit more than a little bit more. I'm just gonna pretend like you didn't speed up.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I would I would disagree now. I'm gonna pretend like you didn't just compare a gas station to Wawa.

SPEAKER_05

No, because I feel like it has the same vibe though. Like, I don't know, maybe we have you know, I could definitely be lying to you.

SPEAKER_04

You might have nicer speedways than me, but like a QT, they're trying to be like Wawa, but they are not Wawa.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, but yeah, no, I think it was definitely a hit. I think in high school, like specifically in my area, like I don't know if it's like a Philly thing too, but like people would just like hang out at Wawa. Yeah, that's a thing.

SPEAKER_00

That's a thing here too.

SPEAKER_05

So like that was um that was interesting. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But yeah, it was a hit. We had that crew at my high school too.

SPEAKER_04

Like in the parking lot or in the street.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you just gotta like hanging out, they're like hanging out on the side. Either or like they're like, I can like see it right now.

SPEAKER_04

Cookout parking lot was the spot for the city.

SPEAKER_00

Cookout is I wish they brought that up north.

SPEAKER_04

We might we might have to talk about it next week because supposedly our ECU hotel has one right next to it. So that might be my owl for next week.

SPEAKER_00

Cookout is ridiculous. I love that place. Um could just go on and on. Alright, anyway, let's go. Last segment. Uh, owl or foul. Owl.

SPEAKER_04

Something soaring up in Temple, Temple Athletics, whatever we want to say, but we gotta give a shout out always to SOAR, the American Conference mascot.

SPEAKER_00

The only conference with a mascot.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, and then we have a foul that is the opposite. Um, and it is something that just needs some improvement.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah, this one needs improvement. Al, Diamond Band. I love this, I love this band. I mean, I gotta give it a shit.

SPEAKER_04

The energy they bring to basketball games is crazy.

SPEAKER_00

I think because the basketball season just concluded, you know, I was just thinking of recap. I was like, the band, the band needs a shout-out. They are the heartbeat of Temple Athletics.

SPEAKER_04

I think we did give them a shout out because when we were talking about the Thanksgiving Macy's parade, yeah. They deserve another one.

SPEAKER_00

It's like for their in-game performances. They actually got in trouble because like their chants were too mean, which I loved. I was like, Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, they love it. They got in trouble by the refs, they had to like adjust their chants. Oh, then we should have chirped at the refs. When I was asking, they were like clearly pissed about this. The energy, the enthusiasm. They love Temple. Also, they're not they're not doing it for the same reasons we are, right? Like, they're not you know getting maybe the same benefits that we are in terms of you know being a student athlete. They just do it for the love of the game, and I got a lot of respect for that. Yeah, and they love this place, and so do I. So, Diamond Band, shout out to you guys if you're listening to this, just keep up the great work. Um, also Amish Muffin, because duh. Um let's go to the foul because Nikki and I, I mean, she's got to actually experience. I have some strong opinions. Uh, I mean, I gotta sit in those uncomfortable bleachers, which isn't great. But LIU hosting Eagle is an abomination. I mean, Eagle Conference, if you're listening, what are you? I'm sure they are. What are we saying? Absolute joke. I mean, seriously, we went from Leah Corps, beautiful arena to this high school gym. Are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_05

It genuinely does give high school gym. I remember we were there last year for an away, and the fire alarm was going off for half of the, I think, warm up. Yeah, so that was kind of a nice experience there. But yeah, I'm not really sure how we're gonna fit all how many five teams. All five teams in that tiny um gym.

SPEAKER_00

But you know, we'll see. It's pretty amazing that they're gonna wait to hear about it. Yeah, honestly, I'm already upset about it because you know, you go to you these meets last a couple hours, and in the stands, you know, you want to be comfortable, like GW, great C, it's McGonagall, we don't talk about it. I'm thinking I gotta go sit on these like bleachers. What am I back at a high school game for basketball? Like it you know, I just think I think the gymnasts deserve better, and I think the fans do. So uh next year, let's you know, pivot. Let's go to a real arena. LIU.

SPEAKER_05

I would have thought they let them do it in like the bat, like I don't know, like that just like a different I think that is their basketball arena. They don't have any other arena, yeah.

unknown

I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I very great.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. Yeah, just LIU hosting Eagle is a foul. And that's all we got. So, Nikki, thank you for joining us. We really appreciate it. We'll be cheering you on, obviously, this weekend. Congrats on an amazing season.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you.

SPEAKER_00

Um, good luck to the squad this weekend, and uh as always,
