David & Amelia had the chance to sit down and talk Temple men's golf with sophomore student-athlete Mason Tomé.
Good morning, owl fans. Welcome back to another episode of the Owl Pod. This week we are recording bright and early. Don't know what time you're listening, but it is 10 a.m.
SPEAKER_03It's 9 45, but we'll get there.
SPEAKER_00It's early for me.
SPEAKER_03It's very early. Usually this is a evening afternoon podcast, but we're adaptable here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we mix it up.
SPEAKER_03No big deal. Recording a little late in the week. That's okay. We like we said last week, we got busy schedules, we got sports in season, so we're just we're gonna make it work. We're gonna give you a podcast every week.
SPEAKER_00We're trying to get you different people on the podcast, different sports.
SPEAKER_03So we were doing the math, or I guess not math, but we were we were thinking about all the sports we brought on. I think we've we've narrowed it down. I think we're only missing maybe two or three sports out of the 17 varsity sports we have. That's pretty crazy. If you click on this episode, you will know that.
SPEAKER_00We unlocked a new one today.
SPEAKER_03We're gonna tap into another sport. Uh we got Mason Tome.
SPEAKER_02Hey everyone. I'm Mason Tomei.
SPEAKER_03Tomei. See, I was trying to know.
SPEAKER_00He's known for getting last names wrong.
SPEAKER_03I butchered a lot. Because you have the accent over the E, right?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Tomei.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I remember when I put in your contact the first time, I made sure I put the accent over it. That's right. So Mason Tomei.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Good to know.
SPEAKER_03He's gonna be joining us a little bit later in the episode from Men's Golf. He's a sophomore. Talk about their season, talk about, of course, his journey to Temple. But first, let's do what we always do. Give a little recap of the previous week in Temple Athletics. You know, ever since the winter sports wrapped up, that composite schedule, there's just not as much activity. Yeah. So I guess that means we can just go more in depth on the sports that we have. Uh starting with men's and women's tennis. Uh the men played on Tuesday of this week and they fell to Monmouth. Um and the women also played on Tuesday and felled at Delaware. So a tough, a tough Tuesday.
SPEAKER_00Terrible Tuesday.
SPEAKER_03For the Owl, for the Temple Owl tennis program. Um but luckily they will have a chance to write that as the women travel to NJIT on April 3rd. That would be Friday. And the men will play host to NJIT on April 4th, which is a Saturday at home. So if you're in the area, there's a lot of action on North Broad Street this week. Uh is everything okay?
SPEAKER_00I think the girls play at home too, because I've I they're doing a hat giveaway, I believe. I I could be wrong, but they said at the men's and women's game.
SPEAKER_03So I'm looking at the composite composite, you know, it has been known to lead me in the wrong direction sometimes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm just going off Instagram, so we are we're probably wrong, both of us somehow.
SPEAKER_03Well, NJIT is gonna get is gonna get some action from the owls. That's that's one thing we know for sure. Um I guess you can head over to Instagram uh for for maybe some more accurate information regarding the location of those games.
SPEAKER_00Saturday and Sunday, the the tennis teams play at home. That's what we're gonna leave you with. So you'll have to go and find out what you're gonna do.
SPEAKER_03Do not go to the composite schedule if you want to know where these games are taking place.
SPEAKER_00And get a hat. A free hat.
SPEAKER_03Oh, those hats are nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they actually do look nice.
SPEAKER_03I like a little temple giveaway. You want to talk uh Temple Lacrosse?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Temple Lacrosse had our third conference game this weekend. We traveled to JMU. We lost. I don't even know the final score. I think 16 to 10. I don't know why I'm looking at you like you would be on the first one.
SPEAKER_03I think it was I thought it was 14 to 7, but maybe I'm gonna go to the 100.
SPEAKER_00No, it was around 16 to maybe eight or something like that.
SPEAKER_03I'm seeing it was 10, yeah, 16 to 10. So you got it right.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I don't know why I even looked at you because I know my stuff. Um, yeah, Jamie was a very good team in our conference there. They were preseason ranked number one, so we knew it was gonna be tough, and yeah, they got the best of us.
SPEAKER_03I mean, it obviously wasn't the result you want. However, can't can't continue without mentioning you only notched five goals this game, which puts you at a hundred goals all time. So, congratulations to my co-host on achieving an amazing milestone. Do you know how many people have scored a hundred goals Temple the Cross program? I do not. Is it a short list? I'm guessing.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_03I mean, you do the math. It's a long this program has been I know, but if you do the math, if you if you were if you spent four years here, there'd be 25 goals a year. Yeah, I had like three season ending injuries, but yeah, so I feel like I was gonna I was gonna say like your season was obviously shorter last year. Yeah, you're not even through this season, so congrats on 100 goals. That's awesome. Yeah, I'll get back to you. I'd like to know. That's awesome though. And you were named honorable mention alongside Caitlin Stane Cavage, who was on the podcast a couple weeks back. So congrats to you both. I know it wasn't a result you wanted, but you got a chance to flip that, right? You got a home game this weekend?
SPEAKER_00Yes, ODU this weekend, finally back home.
SPEAKER_03So it's it's a must-win, right? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Next three must-wins.
SPEAKER_03Must-win.
SPEAKER_00To make the conference tournament.
SPEAKER_03And that's just every Saturday for the month of April, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we we have three more conference games and then we play Drexel on a random Wednesday.
SPEAKER_03So throwing the Drexel Dragons on a Wednesday.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just a little Philly matchup.
SPEAKER_03Awesome. Well, good luck this weekend.
SPEAKER_00Thank you.
SPEAKER_03Uh let's move to men's crew, who had their opening regatta this past weekend. They traveled up to Princeton and took down Philly Faux LaSalle, who's ranked number 16, and also Georgetown, who's number who's ranked number 18.
SPEAKER_00And our owls are ranked number 19th right now, currently, right?
SPEAKER_03I believe they are. Yeah. The only team they lost to was number five Princeton. So I feel like it was a pretty successful weekend. Yeah. Um beating some teams that were ranked just slightly ahead of them, and also teams they're going to see down the line. I know they played they race against LaSalle uh in their you know big conference championship. So obviously, positive result for them. They're gonna head over to California this weekend to race some of the top teams in the country. Um we heard that we heard about that in the sack meeting, so obviously you weren't paying attention, that's okay. You know, Cruz on the other side, it's hard to listen to the case. Yeah, they're heading to Cal, so excited to see how they shake up against some of the top teams in the nation. Also, sneaky, like when crews in season, they travel like a good bit. Yeah. Like they go up to Boston.
SPEAKER_00I also don't get like I've asked this before. They don't travel with their boats and stuff.
SPEAKER_03I think they drive them.
SPEAKER_00They're not driving to California.
SPEAKER_03No, like I'm pretty sure they drive them.
SPEAKER_00Someone said like once when they were, I think they went to Jacksonville, they were like, yeah, the other teams like let us rent them. There's no way they're driving to California.
SPEAKER_03You might have to phone a friend because I'm pretty sure they drive those boats.
SPEAKER_00Alright, I'm I'm interested to hear. I'm sure the fans are too.
SPEAKER_03Sticking in the water. Women's rowing.
SPEAKER_00Hated that.
SPEAKER_03You didn't like that? Hanging out in the water, women's rowing.
SPEAKER_00Stop in the water.
SPEAKER_03They also raced this past weekend and they defeated Delaware, who was you know how they have that new conference? Mm-hmm. We we heard about that when we had Morelli on the podcast. Uh they defeated Delaware who is a conference opponent now, which is a kind of I heard them say new conference opponent or Ryan. It's kind of weird to think Delaware's in our conference for something, but um that's alright. So the the the second varsity four got third place in the regatta. So I think it was a pretty successful opening uh race for them.
SPEAKER_00It was just a one-on-one.
SPEAKER_03No, there are some other teams involved, but I think defeating Delaware was the highlight of that race. Yeah. Um they're gonna head over to Old Dominion this weekend in Virginia.
SPEAKER_00So we're trading off. Last year, actually, both of the teams, like rowing, was with us at ODU in the same hotel. It was funny, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so it's an old Dominion weekend for the Owls.
SPEAKER_00Everyone's gonna beat the monarchs.
SPEAKER_03Is that what their thing is? The monarchs? Yeah. I could not have told you that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Old Dominion Monarch monarchs.
SPEAKER_03Interesting. Alright. You're welcome. Let's wrap it up. We got men's golf. We'll bring in Mason here to talk about their performance last weekend at you guys were down at ECU, correct?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we were down at Cutter Creek, uh, Snow Hill, North Carolina. Um it was okay. Um first week, actually, kind of gaining a little momentum. We're middle of the pack, just not our best, but first week. We have had our full starting lineup, which is good. Um just we've had some issues in the past, and we just haven't had our strongest set strongest guys in the lineup, just missing our one guy for a while and just some stuff going on. But yeah, we have our starting lineup back and we're just looking to proceed from that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so how how does that exactly work with the scoring? You got you guys have six people lineup, does it does everyone count? Because I know like I'm thinking like gymnastics or for us, like only the top five count. Does it count does everyone out of the six count no matter how they perform?
SPEAKER_02Uh so no, which is nice because like say one or two of us play bad. Actually, there's five in the lineup, and the top four count that round. So, like we can have one person play bad, and usually we bring six. Depends on the tournament. If it's a big tournament, we can't get an individual, but we the six persons I get individual, and they just like kind of play for their own competition, their own standings like that.
SPEAKER_03So you don't the person who gets dropped, it could be anyone, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it could be like our best player, it could be yeah, it doesn't matter. That gives you a little bit of flexibility. Yeah, so like obviously one through five, yeah, one through five, but like all the same pretty much. It just depends how good you play that day.
SPEAKER_03And when you're out there, do you like know, okay, this person's having a tough day, I gotta pick it up or not?
SPEAKER_02So that's like a little controversy. Our coach hates it. Like we're so we do scoring on our phones, like live scoring every every hole we punch it in. So there's a website, scoreboard live, and it's refreshed like every hole and has our standings, a leaderboard, everything. Um, and we're always checking to see what our coach doesn't like, but um But that's something like you do, yeah. That's something to be honest, I do, yeah. Um, because like I'm on it to do scoring anyway, so then I'm like curious, I want to know. Um never give up, of course, but um it's like tough when you're having a bad day out there, and then you know the other four guys uh like are balling, so it's it's a good feeling when it's like okay, I don't need to count, I'll regroup and get ready for tomorrow, stuff like that.
SPEAKER_03That makes sense, that makes sense. So you're at ECU this past week. You guys were just at ECU, right? Mm-hmm. You guys do you guys like that area? Like I had a race there a couple years ago. It's like it's a pretty interesting town, wouldn't you say? Did you notice like everything was like purple? I know there's a purple. That's crazy. It was it was a little like purple. Spirited a little too much purple. Spirited for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean it's definitely very different from Temple.
SPEAKER_03You have this look on your face.
SPEAKER_00We're not we're not a we're not a I've just had bad experiences at ECU like for the past like three years, so I can't say I love the place.
SPEAKER_03But you've been to ECU three different times?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Conference tournament and then we've played them twice. Maybe we might oh no, we've played at ECU three times my freshman year, junior year, fifth year. And then conference. I've been there four times.
SPEAKER_03If you had to pick which team you did just like more, ECU or St. Joe's. Oh, St.
SPEAKER_00Joe's, come on.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, just making sure we're still with us. Uh it's bright and early uh Thursday morning. All right, so you guys were just at ECU, going to Princeton. You're off this weekend, right? Yeah. That'll probably be nice for you guys. Regroup. Yeah. Get some just practicing. Yeah. Then you're heading to Princeton. Is that kind of a tune-up for conference, which is a couple weeks after that?
SPEAKER_02For sure. It's weird though, because I'd say it doesn't prepare us too well. Just the courses are a lot different. Obviously, the weather. Our conference is down in Florida, Tampa, USF hosts that. Um, so it's good to get like a good tournament in. I think it's the biggest thing is a confidence builder. Princeton's a good team, but the rest I think should be just a lot of Ivies. Um, so if we have a good showing there, we could honestly get a win um top, top two, top three or so, which would be great for the confidence momentum. But um the courses are just a little different, so it's like strategy attack-wise, a little different than conferences.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so you mentioned the weather in correlation to conference and prepping for conference, and I know we've talked about previously, like, you guys have been doing a lot of traveling, especially to warmer places. Do you want to talk about how like where did you go to Puerto Rico? Yeah, yeah, like how do how do those tournaments like have help prepare you a little bit better for this?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's definitely more like it. Just a lot of the stuff too is the grass. Uh it's a lot different. There's Bermuda grass down south, it's grainy, um, it's harder to chip, and just like kind of the club gets stuck in the ground a little bit. The greens are different, it's speeds, the um grainy greens, they break more. Um, so it's definitely earlier in the season, I think we prepared a lot more, so we have that under our belt already. Um, but it's good to be back like up here closer to home. Kind of everyone's family can kind of come up, see this, even some students, stuff like that. So it's good. I think the last one going into conferences.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I guess like this is something as you're talking here. I started to realize that it's probably pretty unique. I mean, I feel like golf's a unique sport in general. Um, but really, like, one thing I didn't realize is like every course you play is like so different from the next. Right. So, like, we'll get into your journey to Temple here in a sec, but you you grew up in Florida. So the golf in Florida, I mean I've I've played a handful of rounds in Florida, I'm no golf expert, but it's much different than golf up here. And I'm guessing golf up here is much different from golf on the west coast or from the desert. So, how does that exactly work? Like, does your like how does your game like translate from like somewhere in Florida to up here in the west coast?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like are you better in Florida?
SPEAKER_03Like when you play lacrosse game, like you might be playing on turf or grass, but like yeah, it's the same field. Like the track is the same track. I mean, cross country, the different courses, but they're all relatively the same. There's no like major difference. Golf is like you could play one course, it's super long, one course, like how does that work? And I guess how do you like prepare for all these different types of courses?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's definitely a lot different. I'd say my strong suit is definitely Bermuda. I'd say growing up on it, it's tough for the Northeast kids to chip and putt on it, but I'm just used to it. Um, so you gotta be versatile for sure. But I mean, week to week it's way different. If you go out west, there's altitude, the ball flies a million yards. Like you gotta calculate that. Um, when you go to South Carolina and North Carolina, there's hills up here too. Like, there's elevation, um, it's uphill, downhill. Like, you gotta actually think every shot, it's crazy. You gotta calculate everything. Florida, it's a little more simple, a lot windier though. A little more water down there though. Water, water houses. I I my ball ends up in the beach in the water a lot when I play down in Florida about it. 100%. Um same with Puerto Rico, it's like an island, so it's super windy, a lot of water. But um, yeah, the grass, the weather conditions, um, the water all play a factor, and the cold too makes the ball go way shorter. Um, the wind directions. It's tough when you're in the trees, too, in North Carolina. Like last week, we had an issue with that. We're down below in a little valley, and the trees are like surrounding us, so you can't feel the wind and it's swirling. Like, we you just gotta trust it. Golf's a lot of feel.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's tough. It's a lot of feel. Sneaky, like math smort sport, like you kind of have to be like calculating distances and how the wind's gonna affect. Like, you know, me when I got there, I just hack away. You know, there's not much thought into where the wind's blowing or the elevation or anything like that. But I guess as you obviously play more seriously, all those things become a major factor. Um, all right, so let's get into your journey to Temple. I mentioned you're you're from Florida. We had Nikki on from gymnastics a couple weeks ago, she's also from Florida. It just always amazes me how you leave a warm state, especially a sport like golf where you're actually playing outdoors.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So talk about the process of actually coming to Temple. Did you take a visit here? How did you kind of get familiar with the program here?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so my recruiting journey was a long journey. It's t it's different with golf. There's rankings associated with it. It's very individual, it's not team-based. Um, so it's all high school I was traveling alone. My family's traveling, um, doing tournaments across the country. But uh, I was talking to a lot of D2 schools down in Florida, like want to stay close to home. Um, there's just the competition down there is way better. And of course, the weather, but um uh just I wanted to go somewhere with good academics as well. I I've always been good in the classroom, I'd say. So, like northeast, good business. I want to be in a big city, like good connections, networking, end up um in finance somewhere, so it's close, close to Wall Street, Philly has good good banking system. So um I was talking to either D2 down there or um up here, the Northeast D1s, like Lehigh, Delaware, um, and stuff like that. Um, and then I eventually it was tough with the COVID years, transfer portal just being new, so recruiting was kind of closing down. Golf only brings in like two kids a year. Yeah, it's so tight, it's crazy. Not many roster spots. It's crazy. So I was um my year we brought me and then uh transfer in. Um so I actually my home course, there's this guy when I was talking to Delaware, he had a Delaware bag, he's actually a donor there, and so I was talking to him, I was like, Oh, I'm talking to your coach and everything. And he's like, Oh, that's great. Um, but I think they're like closing down recruiting, so he kind of is just like, you know, you guys know athletes just coaches are unclear with everything, so like he kind of helped me actually, and he was like, Well, I'll talk to a Delaware coach for you. But he actually like just told me like he's kind of done with recruiting, so he kind of messed some stuff up, and uh he knew a uh donor here actually at Temple and kind of put me in touch with Coach Quinn. And I he watched me a few tournaments and I came up on a visit, played with the guys here, had a good time. We connected, showed me around campus. I played with them at 1912, beat some of them, gave them some crap, and then uh it's funny. Yeah, it was funny.
SPEAKER_03That might be like one of the one of the few recruiting sports where you like actually play with the team.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there's like no other sport you can play.
SPEAKER_03Like, I guess like guys, like when we have recruits like go run with us, but we're not like racing, you know, it's just like I'll come for a run. Yeah, no. Uh that's pretty funny. So you come up here for a visit, they're like, we'll take you the home course, and you're gonna spend the next four years every day playing. So um I guess like that's that recruitment process is is much different than maybe your normal team. Speaking of 1912, when you actually get on the team here, you're a freshman. Did you have I know you you got your facility, for those of you don't know, is like 40 minutes away from here. It's not it's not just in your backyard, right? You're not just rolling up to the course in the middle of a city. Yeah, no, you're not doing that. So as a freshman, do you have a car here? How how did you get to and from the facility and what what is that operation like? Because you obviously have access to this beautiful country club. What's that process like though, on like a daily basis, if you want to walk us through that?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so coming in as a freshman from Florida, it's a long ways. I wasn't planning on having a car, it's tough drive. I'm not used to driving in a big city like this either. Um, but my teammates are so so very nice to me. They carpooled me, um, captains took me under their wing, they're great. Um, we do a great job, like whoever needs a ride, um, wherever. Um, we're awesome with that, but um, it's tough. We gotta coordinate T times, like going back and forth between like class, like today I'm just stressed, I'm going right after class. It's just to save time. It's tough with timing. Like in the fall and winter, it gets dark so early, like you don't have that much time, and just miss a lot of campus activities, stuff like that. That's why like our we get our stuff done in the morning, like early, and so we can go right out there. But um, yeah, coach does a great job with like getting availability for us, even though there's members out there and everything, it's nice that he can accommodate us and have us there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I feel like like like I said, like that's pretty unique to your sport.
SPEAKER_00Um, Temple for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, like I'm thinking like football is like they have their own facility, but it's like a couple blocks up the road.
SPEAKER_00It's a long walk.
SPEAKER_03It's a long walk. They might need a scooter. Yeah. Yours is like you're not getting there by foot.
SPEAKER_00Mine is a mile walk.
SPEAKER_03I think they look a half mile, yeah. A little different.
SPEAKER_02TSC?
SPEAKER_00TSC to Grad Street, it's a mile. I do it every day.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I haven't tried walking the 1912 yet. You know, if I make it. Yeah, it might be over a mile.
SPEAKER_00So you so you might win here.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's crazy. Um, you ever get tired of playing that course? It's very repetitive for sure. Um we bounce like we travel so much, we play a lot, so it's not too tiring, but in the season it's super nice, so there's no complaints. But just playing the same thing, I think it makes it easier for sure, but it does get a little time.
SPEAKER_03Is that normal for most schools? Like my right now, my brother uh is getting his doctorate at Florida, and he plays the Florida course every single day. And I I think he loves it. Obviously, it's a really nice course. But like, is that normal for mo most, you know, Division I golf programs? Like you have your home course and you're just gonna play that every single day.
SPEAKER_02Not necessarily. Like ECU, we go down there four, three, four times a year because they have multiple courses. Oh wow. Yeah, so they bounce around. It's different. Like a lot of southern schools have land and their courses are five minutes, five minutes down the road, ten minutes. It's like some have facilities on campus, they have a range, like Elon does, they have like a range on campus we've been to. Um so it's a lot different. They get out to a lot of places.
SPEAKER_03So let's uh let's bring up this topic that we've actually spoken about on this podcast, I think briefly in in a previous episode. I I've claimed, I'm on I'm well on the record. I think the the best sport to play in college would be golf. If if I could pick one sport that I think would be the most enjoyable, it'd be golf. Just from the the standpoint of number one, golf's a very enjoyable sport. It's one it's a social sport, so you can you probably play with your buddies every single day or most days. Um obviously, like there still requires like a physical element, but also like it's not as high impact, perhaps, as some of the other sports in terms of like injuries. Um you do get injured from like your back and stuff. Um I always say, like, I think golf, not and then also like not to be like this guy, but like the gear is pretty incredible. Like you got this nice quarter zip, couple polos. Um I know Amelia's rolling her eyes. I I just think golf would be my my sport to play. Do you feel that way, or are you like, no, I'd rather play like something else?
SPEAKER_02I feel like I honestly am jealous of you guys. Like, I feel like it takes a lot more time. Like, I'm not saying it's necessarily harder, but I think it takes a lot more time, and we have a lot less time to do stuff, especially traveling back and forth. But I think being on campus is a lot easier, and I don't know, it gets overlooked, like my brain never stops like working. I wish I could just be like meathead sometimes, just like bad like just run and hit people or something. Yeah, but you don't have to think.
SPEAKER_03No, that that's that's the true thing about like if you want to really get around a golfing, it's gonna take a couple hours. Yeah, like minimum. Like minimum. Or like I could do it, yeah, you can do it.
SPEAKER_02You warm up for almost an hour, play for four, that's already five.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes you warm up for almost an hour?
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, between stretching, putting, chipping, you hit a few on the range. See, that's the difference.
SPEAKER_03Like when I go play golf, it's like I roll up tea times at 10 a.m., I'm there at 9.50. Yeah. Hit whack a couple balls, I'm on the hole number one. You guys probably have a whole routine you're going through before you step out there.
SPEAKER_02I feel like you were like, oh, you play golf with your buddies all the time and stuff, but like, even if we do, it's competitive and it's like if I'm playing bad, I'm upset. Yeah. So it's like I can't just enjoy it. Like it's never.
SPEAKER_03So like when's like the last time, or I guess like in the summer, do you ever just like are you able to just ever go out and enjoy a round of golf, or it's like you're not trying to qualify, or you're not trying to you're not in a tournament, you're just going out there, or is it always like you're always like trying to shoot the lowest score possible? Like for me, like I'll compare. Like, when I sometimes in the summer, like when I'm a race, like I'll just go for a run with my friends. I don't care about the pace. Leisure. I don't care about it. I'm just going out there and have fun. Like, obviously, it's not like hurting me, but it's like I'm not like super dialed in on the that makes sense.
SPEAKER_02I mean, rarely I'd say. So it's pretty competitive. Yeah, we have matches.
SPEAKER_03I was gonna see if you want to play around golf, but I'm out of it. We're gonna be yeah, no, like it's always in the back of my mind. Like, I can't.
SPEAKER_00What's your average, Dave?
SPEAKER_03Average? I mean You're pure. I'm uh I'm like a mid to high 90s player, and so like we're looking at like a 25 handicap on those courses.
SPEAKER_02We'll get you some lessons.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I need a couple lessons. My irons need.
SPEAKER_00Maybe warming up is the key. That's what you missed.
SPEAKER_03No, it's my iron play, it's terrible. I can I'm nice off a T. When I get on the green, I can usually get it. I would put putting those irons, man. Look out. A lot of force on the course. Amelia, what do you think? Any sport?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I think I've played golf like maybe twice in my life. I'm really good at mini golf. Um, but real golf, I've like never really played with like an effort.
SPEAKER_03So but if you could pick any sport, are you sticking with Lex or Like thinking like best sport to play in college? Yeah, just from like not even like, oh, I think I'd be good at this, but just like the most you think the most enjoyable sport to play.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know if I would go with golf. I don't know what I would go with. Most enjoyable sports.
SPEAKER_02You have to have an answer. You can't just shut it down. Well I didn't think because I uh uh It's hard for me to say golf because I never really played golf.
SPEAKER_00Like I might go tennis because I like tennis.
SPEAKER_03That's fine. Okay. Tennis.
SPEAKER_00And I like every time I've played tennis, like I feel like I'll play it like leisurely, like what you're saying you play golf like, and I've always had fun, so it's like yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's another sport that you like tennis and golf are two sports you can just play for a long time.
SPEAKER_00Like I guess like my real answer would be pickleball because that's my number one passion in life. And that's like a I said that to my my assistant coach last year, and she did not like that answer.
SPEAKER_03Really? Yeah, you can't.
SPEAKER_00Well, because she was like, it should be like cross. I was like, I love pickleball.
SPEAKER_03I think you were joking.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes it's hard to tell with me.
SPEAKER_03Alright, fair enough. I mean, golf and tennis, you play forever, and I feel like, especially you're talking, you want to go into finance, like being able to play golf certainly won't hurt your uh hurt your chances of that. I feel like you know, a lot a lot of business deals get done on the golf course. I feel like after college, some of your guys go on to play. I'm guessing it's something that you want to continue to do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, of course, of course. Definitely play. I'm still like kind of debating on the pro life. It's a grind, this the travel is a lot, it's a lot of money to keep going. Um just depends how I see life, how I start playing.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but I mean, pro golf is like you're you're all independent contractors, right? Like you like you you play well, yeah, it's all on you. So it's a lot of pressure. Yeah, I mean I love like another masters is coming up here in a couple weeks. By the way, you uh guess you follow golf pretty closely. I mean Masters has to be one of the greatest sporting events of the year.
SPEAKER_02Sweet, I've been five times. Oh really? When I was young, my grandma's gonna say my grandpa. That's unreal to me.
SPEAKER_03So my parents who aren't like super golf, like my parents love sports, they're not really into golf. A couple years ago they were invited to Masters, so they went. Um I was super jealous. Also, like you know, they can't bring any phones or anything. So I just I saw them on TV though, it was pretty insane. Um that's definitely a bucket list item. Just go down to the two expression. I have a question.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, my home state. What's your favorite like food item you've gotten there?
SPEAKER_02Food item, chicken sandwiches are guess.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I feel like I always hear about the pimento cheese, and it's like two dollars or something. Like the price of the cheese.
SPEAKER_02They're like cheap. Um the cups are sick too. At my house, like they're all we like just steal, like well, not steal, but like we have like all the drinks we have, we just save the cups and then we bring them home. We have like 50 plus the cups. Augusta. That's like a bucket list item. Yeah, that's pretty sick. You're played or no? No. No.
SPEAKER_03That's like a different level. Never, yeah, it's a different level. I mean, hopefully one day I'm just playing in the tournament. Any golfers like dream. If you could play any course, is it Augusta or Pebble Beach? What do you think?
SPEAKER_02Augusta for sure. The just the prestigiousness.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I feel like, yeah, there's a there's some pretty historic courses out there. I feel like Pebbles one that I wouldn't mind uh teeing up one day. Yeah, for sure. If you get good weather, that'd be sick. Probably see the ball go in the water a lot, but that's alright.
SPEAKER_02Off the cliffs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Alright, well, we'll be uh we'll be tuning in the rest of the golf. You only got two more tournaments, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Princeton and conferences.
SPEAKER_03Well, it goes by quick. I feel like you guys just started. I mean, all the sports. You guys are what? Three quarters of the way down to you, so you guys.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it goes by really quick.
SPEAKER_03It goes by quick. Alright, let's uh let's move. Temple takes. Camilla, you want to take this away?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Temple Takes, my favorite segment. Um, today we decided our topic was gonna be temple athlete perks. So it's not going with our like alliterations that we like.
SPEAKER_03Um, but yeah, we're just gonna talk about some of the perks of being a student athlete here, and and whether those things you're overrated or underrated. Yeah. It's pretty simple. Yeah. Um, some of these probably spark a little bit more conversation than others, but let's jump right into it. What's what's our first one?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I feel like I mean, just for me, this might be the top like advantage. I don't know what you guys' answer is gonna be, but pretty um. So like when we go on like away trips, or like sometimes when we're home for like spring break, they have to give you money for food, and they've gotten more generous in in the years, so now I think you get like at least 20 a meal. I think prettium is so underrated, and I I love having our prettium card. Do you guys have pretty um cards?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we don't really we have like a little a deck card. No pre-um card? I was gonna say, I think we might be like one of the only teams that don't like our coach kind of just takes care. We have to like send him receipts when we like get stuff and he kind of like takes care. I think he like honestly covers they like somehow like with the donations and stuff, they like cover the requirement, like the meals. I don't know, it's pretty sweet.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if that's so like I guess you is your take that they have to be overrated for you, right?
SPEAKER_02Honestly, no, because like I'm very grateful for it. Yeah, like who wouldn't want money? Like oh okay. Like we don't necessarily use it, but like we still get it. I I get you get redeemed you're talking about. In a way, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I feel like it'd be cooler though, like if you have to carry your own car. That's what I'm saying. Okay, so my I am saying it's underrated. Okay, but I'm also gonna preface this with like I have a redeem card, but I have no I've never been able to see the balance on the card.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's on you.
SPEAKER_03It's not.
SPEAKER_00I've tried you can sign up for the cards.
SPEAKER_03I've tried the text, it doesn't work on my thing. So I have no idea. I've never known how much on my card.
SPEAKER_00You gotta use it all before you graduate though.
SPEAKER_03However, that money, I've always just considered it like just free money.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Yep.
SPEAKER_03And I never know how much is left, so sometimes I'll go out, I'll get some food. I'm like, I don't know if this is gonna work or not. I haven't had any issues. Um, but again, like when we go on a trip, like I never know how much has been uploaded. So that part isn't ideal, but for DM is definitely under it's definitely underrated. Uh like you said, when you're here early, you know, and out of out of school stuff, that'll definitely bless you. So um definitely, definitely a major perk.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, big advantage. I feel like another one that we always hear like every student athlete talk about gear. Like I'll start us off, I guess. Underrated. Like, I love all the gear we get. We can even go like favorite item of gear you get. Low-key, I might go shoes. Like underrated, like the amount of shoes we get is kind of crazy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm gonna so I'll just say I'm I'm overrated. I'm gonna say overrated. Let me just say, like, when you're a freshman, even sophomore, gear is like gear day is like the best thing ever, right? Like Nike Christmas. Like I remember my first gear day, I was like so excited. It's kind of critical looking back how excited I was. As you get older, I just feel like I'm obviously, don't get me wrong, I'm super appreciative of everything we get. You know, I feel like obviously I'm appreciative. But like the thing about the gear, just like as I got older, like it becomes almost like again, this is gonna sound super spoiled. It's a little repetitive, but also like you just have so much of it. Like, there's just so much like clothes that like again when I leave here, like I'm gonna have to find like I'm not gonna wear like a bunch of these like temple cross-country shirts just out and about. Like, I'm gonna rep, but like I guess my point is I just think after a certain time, like it just gets a little overrated. Now the shoes, I agree. The shoes are amazing, especially for us. We get pairs of running shoes, that's awesome. Again, it's not an appreciation thing, it's just it becomes a little repetitive. And I tell my freshman, like, by the time you're a senior, it's just not gonna be as exciting. They're like, What do you mean? Like, it's the best thing. I'm like, just wait, like, it's not I get it for like the shirts.
SPEAKER_00Like, okay, you can only get so many shirts that say like temple lacrosse, but like I mean the hoodies are cool, like hoodies are always different.
SPEAKER_03We get a lot of cool stuff, and I love I love our school colors. Like, I I think like we get nice gear, it's just like after a while, I'm like, it's a little overrated. I think that's a good thing. That's all it's just a little overrated. Yeah, Mason?
SPEAKER_02Um I'm gonna have to disagree. I think it's underrated for but I see your point. Um, I think I'm not there yet.
SPEAKER_03Golf golf gear is yeah, I feel like I can compare this. You guys gotta see that. I mean, when you when he records the video, you're gonna see this quarters in. I mean, I'm I'm gonna go into Liz's office and just ask for one straight off.
SPEAKER_02I I would give you one, but you're a little too big for me. The crop top, I think. Yeah, no, I think the shoes for sure, the golf shoes we get are pretty sweet, and the Nike like runners are all sweet, the lifting shoes too, but definitely underrated.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Alright. We all I was gonna say we all agree, but you actually didn't know. Switching it up. Alright, next one, student athlete lounge. I feel like this is like a highlight of every single tour that is like.
SPEAKER_03They love showing this.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, this is like the biggest flex, maybe other than like resnik. But student athlete lounge, for those that don't know, it's like the second floor of McGonagall, Pearson McGonagall.
SPEAKER_03Third floor. Third floor. Second floor.
SPEAKER_00Third, it's it's on a floor that's like in the sky. Second floor.
SPEAKER_03Second floor, sorry.
SPEAKER_00And they they stock us up with food there. There's some coffee couches, there's sleep pods, there's curigs. I mean, I think it's underrated. I I've spent a lot of time there, and I think it is it's probably one of the best perks that we get.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, super underrated. Uh, I think it's probably the best spot for student athletes, uh, not just socially, but also you mentioned like the food. They've done a really good job. We're lucky they that think it's always stock uh with food and drinks, so it's really nice between classes to get food there. Yeah. They also have some TVs in there, it's pretty nice. Sleep pods, like you said. Um it's also just nice to like hang out with other student athletes in kind of like your own area. It's also I I when I was underclassman, I did a lot of studying there now. Yeah, I no longer do that, but it's it's still good for that. Uh because I just don't study as much as I I used to, but we get it, you have CRS. Yeah, whatever. Um, yeah, super underrated.
SPEAKER_02I don't think so. I think this the athlete lounge is overrated. Oh wow. Okay, I was not expecting that too. I think it's overrated. I mean, that's what I was going back to, like the golfers, always off campus kind of. I don't really have time to go in there. Um studying, I don't think would work in there. There's too much going on. Like it's a good spot to hang out. I appreciate the food in there. Sometimes I go up and lift, my legs are like jello, and I gotta grab some. Yeah, all the stairs to get up there.
SPEAKER_00Sometimes it's the words from the big stairs are tough.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and the elevator, you might as well just like crawl up the stairs if you guys float. Yeah, so far. And also, like, we share a locker room with golf, so like the walk from that our locker room to the to the lounge, it's about 50 stairs. So it's uh it's a it's like a mini workout just to get to the lounge. I can understand that point.
SPEAKER_00No, an afterlift when your legs are tearing. Oh my gosh. Like, am I really hungry? Like, is it worth it?
SPEAKER_03It's not worth the change. That's a good temple take right there. Um let's go to the next one. Let's go tutoring via the resnik center.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I was gonna say maybe we should do resnik first, but of course I wrote in the wrong order.
SPEAKER_03So that would be your fault.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Um, all right, let's do resnik. Um do you know the whole title? Like the Nancy, like Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Nancy and Donald Resnick Center?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So is it just two names that you're looking for?
SPEAKER_00I knew Nancy. I didn't know Donald. But that's like our our academic resource like center, and they do tutoring in there, they have nice Macs, they have you have to do study hall hours. I don't know. I think nice computers too. Printer Oh yeah, the printer's clutch. Yeah, printer's clutch. All our academic advisors are in there. Yeah, I think I think Resnick is underrated. I love like even as a fifth year, I do my homework in Resnick all the time. I didn't have to do study hall hours, so that might also like sway my opinion on it because I know people absolutely hate doing that, but I love resnik. I think it's it's a good spot.
SPEAKER_03So I love Resnick, but I'm not the biggest like go to resnik guy. So I'm gonna say overrated just because even though it's a nice facility, and like I like using the printer, like that's that's really nice. But I just again I don't do work in there, I never have. I don't like if I'm gonna do work, I don't like think, oh let me go to resnik to do work. I just think like that's it, I'm gonna be distracted. There's a lot going on in there.
SPEAKER_00The back room with all the computers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the back room's nice. And there's breakout rooms and it's just one of those things where I never like got into the habit of going because I also didn't have the hours. So I think if I actually had the hours, I would have discovered that it's a probably a good place to be. But just never spent a lot of time in there. Um so I'm gonna say overrated, but obviously, like the resources they provide and everything, like it's next next level for sure. But just going there to actually do stuff, I'm gonna say overrated.
SPEAKER_02I'm the same way, Dave, for sure. Like, we never had the hours. I like to stop in, use the printer, and see Placky. He's always a good kid to see. Gotta love plaque. Shout out to Placky. He's our advisor.
SPEAKER_00Never heard plaquey, that's what he's for him.
SPEAKER_02That's his nickname, the golf team's always called him. Do you guys call him that or not? He's he goes by plaque daddy to us. Black Daddy?
SPEAKER_03Which is even his Instagram handle if you guys followed.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I feel like I'd get distracted in there too. I've never just thought I've I like to do work like solo, quiet. Um, that back room I've used a few times just when it's quiet, but if there's people in there, it gets rowdy. Forget it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, peak hours for Snack is.
SPEAKER_03People like go there to hang out, which is like okay, but like just take that up to the lounge.
SPEAKER_00But that's like there's that's like the failure of like study hall hours because like these freshmen like on my team, like they're on like hour six and they have to get eight or whatever. They're like, oh yeah, I'm just watching TikToks for two hours. I'm like, well, and that's just a waste of the space.
SPEAKER_03Not to be like controversial. And again, if someone from Resnick was listening to this and I offend you, I'm not trying to offend you. I'm just saying, like, I think resnik hours are like the biggest Fugazi of all time. Like I was at I was one of my freshmen at my apartment the other night, like, oh, I forgot to sign out a resnik. I'm just gonna get like 18 hours now or whatever. Like, I'm like, is that is like do we really think like just because you tell someone to go, like half the guys sneak out the back door, you know the back door? Yeah, I don't know. I got I got a little bone to pick with resnik hours, but that's okay. If you're listening.
SPEAKER_00Even though you didn't have to do them.
SPEAKER_03If you're yeah, if you're listening to this and you got a problem with that, like come find me. We'll talk about it.
SPEAKER_00Dave's just trying to make Temple a better place. Trying to make it a better place. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I didn't put you as the foul, so it's not okay.
SPEAKER_00I going off of resnik, as Dave alluded to, tutoring, that's a big perk. Um, I've used a lot of tutors for my like sciences and stuff, and all the ones I've had were really good. So I'm gonna say underrated. I think like one-on-one tutoring is amazing, and they they go out of their way to set up like whatever you need, like for any class. So I think that's a really good perk that we get here.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I'll say underrated, even though I haven't necessarily used the tutoring. I'm gonna take it a step further. Like, they also have like a level up program where they'll like pair you with someone in your like career to help you kind of build your LinkedIn and build your professional skills. Like, all that stuff is again next level. Those resources I don't think you get at most universities. Yeah, especially the quality here. So I'm gonna say the tutoring completely underrated. Any class you need, it's also free. You know, think about like in high school or whatever, if you want to hire a tutor, it's gonna cost you like probably a good amount of money. Yeah. Here, you get another student, they've already taken the class, they're usually really smart, they can help you directly. I think it's just like a really awesome resource that we have that I I know people on my team take advantage of, um and proves to be pretty helpful.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna have to agree too. Tutoring is definitely underrated. I've never really used it, but I'm in a diamond development program this semester, and like Alyssa is really helpful, and like the alumni and just the career development aspect of all of that is helpful. And I know the tutors help our team, my team a lot, and I think it's helpful every team, but they take their time out of their days and they're always in there helping us. Yeah, shout out shout out to the tutors, yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00And everyone with the the career development stuff is unmatched at other schools for sure.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's it's unbelievable. Yeah, it can't say you can you can fight me on the hours, but you're I'm I'm fully backing the resin center in terms of what they provide to student athletes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Another um, I think this is through resnik too. The the trips. Um, I know Amelia Budd came on and talked about her trip that she went on through the Resic Center, but I think basically you you do one class, like it's a few credits or something.
SPEAKER_03It's a three-credit class. Yeah. Uh you go, the course starts before you actually go on the trip. But really, it it is a class, but it's more of like an experience, I would say. Like they there's three different trips they offer. They offer Rome during spring break, Japan right after the spring semester, and then they offer the UK trip.
SPEAKER_00No, they mix up the spots.
SPEAKER_03They they I know, but that's what it is right now. Okay. I think they are they are changing the UK trip. I think it's gonna be somewhere else. They've gone to Spain, they've gone to crazy places. They those are like the time periods, so like they try to offer it so different sports can go. Because like spring break works really well for football, but obviously, in right before school starts, like no football player is gonna be out of town for two weeks. So I think they just do a really good job making it flexible so that all student athletes can have the opportunity to go. It's one thing I have I didn't take advantage of during my time here. Um, with looking back, like it could have been cool, but I just never was really interested in in any of the places that they were going. But I know some of my teammates, one of my teammates did it last year, went to Japan, it was a really good experience. I just think like, again, like these are really cool opportunities. It's also you're just traveling with only student athletes. Yeah. So again, you have that sense of community, everyone has something to do.
SPEAKER_00And you meet so many new people.
SPEAKER_03You meet a lot of new people. Again, Amelia Budd came out, she told us about the UK trip, she had a blast. I think everyone who has gone has had a really good time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um, so like I again, it's not something I've done, but like I think it'd be really cool. Uh, even like Mason, you're an underclassman, you have a couple more years here. Like, I'm sure it's something you you probably want to think about. Um so I would say definitely underrated.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, uh everything that you said, I think I didn't ever do one, but now they're really like emphasizing them. Like when I was a freshman or sophomore, I really don't know how many people were going on them, but I think they're doing a great job to make them available for everyone. Um, the only thing like I think A lot of our juniors just went and it was like right before you came back to school and that's like peak like preseason training, I guess, for us. So like that's just the tough part. Like you kind of have to give and take a little bit. So but I would have loved to go on these and I think they're a great opportunity.
SPEAKER_02I agree. They're definitely underrated. I haven't been on one, but I want to. I don't think this summer I can, but next summer will be sweet. I know some of the golf guys went on the UK trip. Yeah. They had a great time. I think some played golf, like I'm pretty sure. Yeah, I think I I've heard that.
SPEAKER_03I think not this past summer, but the summer before. Yeah. Yeah. I know that'd be sick if you golf before.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Joe, like there's some sweet, and I love that. Just with student athletes, even teammates, other teams, like you said, sense of community for sure.
SPEAKER_00It's also so cool that your like scholarship couldn't account for it. So obviously, like you're not gonna get this opportunity to get a discounted trip across the country, so or across the world. Alright, next one, we'll leave we'll leave the resnik department. Yeah, department. And we'll go down to the basement in the athletic training room.
SPEAKER_03The dark basement with no windows.
SPEAKER_00That would be one of the only cons I would say, but like you get what you get in a city and you don't pitch a fit, you know.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I haven't heard of it. Don't pitch a fit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um the athletic training room. I I think it's I think it's pretty good. I think it's underrated. I I've spent way too much time in there. I wish I hadn't spent so much time in there. But I think the the people are good in there, and yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um yeah, the ATR, I feel like, like you said, like you don't really want to be in there, ideally. It's like usually sad if you're maybe like for preventative and stuff, yes. But like usually when I walk in there, I'm not super happy because usually there's something wrong with me. So um they have a lot of really great uh tools that you can use. You know, they got the Normotech boots, they got the hot tubs, cold tubs. So again, a lot of you know great stuff down there. Personally, I'm just gonna say overrated because not having to do with with the trainers or anything. But I will say I just like never am happy when I'm in that room because usually something's really bothering me. So I'm just gonna say overrated because I don't like to go in there at all. Um like not to say like when I was younger, I went in there a lot to like work on my body and stuff. But as I've gotten older, I just you know, it's been it's been harder to keep keep up with that stuff. Okay. Um it's not a great doesn't listen to this, but yeah, it's just how it goes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm gonna have to agree. I think the training facility, like training room is overrated. We actually go to the football facility for like our trainers. That's nice. So like it's nice, but then it's also like a long walk. Like if you're actually hurt, it's pretty like tough to get there. Yeah, that's a hike. That's that's the problem, and it's pretty rowdy, like being on a table in there with the football guys and stuff. Like, no, hey, love you guys, always giving you guys lessons and stuff. They want to go to top golf and everything. But um, it's just like rowdy, it's hard to get like specific one-on-one stuff if you're actually hurt. A lot going on in there, it takes a lot of time, I think. Um, I love the trainers too, but it's tough. Like you said, like if you're going in there, you're going in there for a problem. But I think it's helpful for recovery and preventative stuff. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And let's finish off. Um, as we said, still in the basement. Weight room. That's they just did a lot of work on the weight room. They they repainted everything, added a new temple tea.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, a new paint job really threw me off. Yeah, you don't like the black? I like it, it just was so different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I love the tea in the bag. The tea in the bag is cool. The light up tea is pretty cool. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that is cool. I just think it's like funny. Like, I don't know. Like, what does that mean?
SPEAKER_00Like that's what we're highlighting.
SPEAKER_03Like, no, just like, I don't want to, I'm not gonna get it. I just thought like when I saw that, I was like, really? Like we we did that. We got like I don't know. It was just like, yeah, it was cool. I'll leave it there. Uh it's not the right time to get my opinion.
SPEAKER_00So you're going overrated on the weight room?
SPEAKER_03No, I love the weight room. It's it's it's an underrated place because like the equipment in there is amazing, and also like I just kind of like even though there's no windows, I just kind of like the space. It's kind of in the corner. I like the layout of the weight room. Um I just have I've always liked lifting, despite uh maybe how I look on the outside. Like, we're not we're not the most like jacked team up. Uh, but I just like going there and moving some weight around, getting out of there. You got the protein shakes, love that. Yeah, the hit or miss on the snacks beforehand, but like the protein shakes after, super nice. So I'm gonna say underrated. I love the weight room. Also, shout out Kate Cole, my strength coach for four years. Absolutely love her. So been lucky, lucky in that regard. Nice, nice, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I think weight rooms underrated. Just being in there early in the morning, feel productive, we get it out of the way.
SPEAKER_00Are you guys like 6 a.m. left?
SPEAKER_02Six, yeah, six. So and I think that the layout's functional too. Like, we have a bunch of teams in there too. They come in at around seven-ish. So, like, we can fit multiple teams in there, like, there's no problem. We do everything we need to do and more, and like trainers are great, always getting better, so yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I agree. Everything you guys said, always give a shout out to to our coaches and stuff because they do a good job.
SPEAKER_03They work their butts off too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they're here like 12 hours a day.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I like the weird room staff here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, love it. Alright, well, that was fun.
SPEAKER_03That was fun. That was that was good. We got a lot of takes there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that was we probably unlocked some new temple places for a lot of people.
SPEAKER_03And maybe some new enemies with some of our comments. That's okay. Um let's move.
SPEAKER_00We didn't dive into star, but I know some star people are listening.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we know. We know, we know you're out there, the Al Faithful.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Always tuning in. Um, let's move to my favorite segment, Al or Foul. Al Soaring Upwards, that would be a shout out to our American Conference mascot, Soar the Eagle. Did you know we have a mascot for the conference? Of course. You know where the art conference with a mascot? Yeah, did you have the conference? Yeah, SOR. Special stuff. Also, I saw SOAR got a little shout-out on the Instagram. You see that for the American Conference? Releasing all these long, like releasing these new like rules for football tiebreakers. I just saw like they collaborated with SOAR. That's pretty funny. Um shout out.
SPEAKER_00I gotta follow him. Why do I not follow him when I see it?
SPEAKER_03I literally just followed him. Not very active, we'll say. Uh if you're listening, Sor, a couple more posts would be nice. And then the foul is just something that needs to be improved, or something we just, you know. Yeah. Today, you'll see. You'll see you'll see how this goes. Uh, the owl this week, I'll I'll just Dave was very passionate about this.
SPEAKER_00I think you texted me about it maybe like three days ago.
SPEAKER_03I did text you about it a couple days ago because it A, I wanted you to just like be enlightened about this, and then B, I I knew I wouldn't remember it. Yeah. Um, so my owl of the week is the smoothie truck, which is located on Montgomery, uh, right outside of Fox or Montgomery. It's an all-cash operation. Uh although they've just started they've just started accepting Zell uh or Cash App, so maybe they've been expanding their payment options. Fancy. This place delivers some of the best smoothies I've ever had. Um, they're fresh. The fruit is brought in on a daily basis. Did you ask? I'm I could just tell because they have the cartons of fruit out there. This is like a real operation. Okay. And I just think they deliver some great. And also, like it's a flexible, like, you know, some places they already have the pre-made options, you like feel bad editing it. Oh yeah. Thinking like Smoothie King. This place, they have the list of fruits, and you just picking, you know, you just pick like I want mango, strawberry, pine, whatever. And they just like it's quick. Um, one guy in there, super nice guy, just friendly guy. You know, I like friendly people. I'm just plugging away at this smoothie truck.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like do you hopefully an NIL deal coming soon?
SPEAKER_03I don't think there's this is not the type of truck that's gonna be giving out NIL deals. But uh, especially when the weather's nice, go find yourself a smoothie truck and uh protein. That's a good question. I have not inquired about protein. Although that would that would definitely be smooth. Yeah. If they had protein powder, I mean, you're gonna be honest. Based on what I just described, I'm not sure they're carrying whey protein in that truck. However, next time I go, I'm gonna ask.
SPEAKER_00I bet they might be. Like a lot of people like protein in their smoothies.
SPEAKER_03That's true. They also have other stuff, not just smoothies. Yeah. But I fresh cut fruit.
SPEAKER_00That's what I've heard at the truck, and it's it's amazing.
SPEAKER_03It's awesome. So shout out to the smoothie truck. That's my owl.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, gonna have to try it out for sure.
SPEAKER_03Go ahead. Just make sure you had a couple couple dollars. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then Fowl this week kinda um, you could honestly blame our president of Sack for this one. He got everyone super excited that we were having our new sponsors. Oh yeah, you know, you know me. Like, I love a story. He got everyone super excited, especially La Cross Girls, about like, oh, Santucci's this week at the stack meeting. Like, honestly, I would say like probably half the people at the stack meeting go just for the food.
SPEAKER_03Like, don't tell me that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's it's the truth. And um, so so we get to the Santucci, we get to the stack meeting, and we're like, oh yum pizza. Nope, just veggie pizza. Yeah, like and not just like, oh, there was like spinach on it. No, spinach, broccoli, green pepper, green bell peppers, uh, onions, yeah, uh mushrooms. Um, it was a whole salad.
SPEAKER_03It was a pizza disguised as a salad. Yeah. Pretty unfortunate.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um there's a lot of leftovers. Yeah, I can take ownership of this. I mean, look, I love Santu G's. Uh double sponsor, by the way, shout out. Yeah. Um I'm gonna be honest, like, do I handle the direct order? No. But it's something I need to look at.
SPEAKER_00So, what do you do as president?
SPEAKER_03I'm just I instruct, I instruct what business we're gonna cater from. With that being said, like, I just something I need to be more aware of. Because I will agree, like one meeting left. Veggie, veggie pizza.
SPEAKER_00You can only go up from here.
SPEAKER_03Veggie pizza, just in general, forget Sayatucci, and I just gonna, I mean, their sponsor I'm not gonna rip on the spawn. I'm just saying, like, veggies don't belong on pizza.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, veggie pizza might just be our foul. Like, just veggie pizza.
SPEAKER_03I was just thinking about it just now. Like, who like took pizza and was like, let's put vegetables all over it?
SPEAKER_00It's not making it any healthier, really.
SPEAKER_03It's not even a health thing, it's just like just think about that.
SPEAKER_00Health thing.
SPEAKER_03Like, it's not healthy, like, I just like it's bothers me just thinking about it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we we probably should just end the podcast. We're getting a little too heat.
SPEAKER_03Made him look at me like he likes veggie pizza. No, no, I don't either.
SPEAKER_00He was the one that made the salad come in earlier, so I kind of stole his line, but it was a good line.
SPEAKER_03You can't you can't put like it was just like again, not to rip on a business. I'm just saying, like, the pizza was just covered with veggies.
SPEAKER_00We're ripping on the pizza industry as a whole.
SPEAKER_03You couldn't even see the cheese pizza.
SPEAKER_00Was there cheese on it?
SPEAKER_02Like I feel bad, but like. I just have a question. Were you the one that ordered veggie pizza?
SPEAKER_03No, I I trust me. That was a wild card? I because I love the square, like their cheese pizza take. It's my favorite pizza in the city. It really is. Like, I I'm no, I actually I wish I could say the same, but I had to eat the veggie pizza. I'm notorious at that place. You want to know why? I'm the only person that's eaten a whole pizza. I'm the only person that's even ever eaten an entire large pizza at Santucci's bio. And they've given me a cannoli on both occasions. I did it twice, not once, but twice. It's impressive.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, I didn't know you did it for a second time.
SPEAKER_03So uh I love Santucci. He's actually crazy. I've I've been wanting this sponsorship from Santucci for a while. He's like about a vomit just thing.
SPEAKER_00He's like, ugh.
SPEAKER_03How'd your stomach feel after that?
SPEAKER_00I I it's a dense pizza.
SPEAKER_03It was thick, thick pizza. A whole thing in front of the recruit. He signed the next day. I think it's a coincidence. I don't think so. Is the recruit here now? He's here now. Who is it? Miles.
SPEAKER_00That's awesome.
SPEAKER_03Might be Xavier, actually. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So you don't even want to move on.
SPEAKER_03Um, they can made an example.
SPEAKER_00You made a lasting impact. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_03Anyway, like St. I love St. Hughes', but let's just, in general, veggies are not on pizza. I'll die on that grave. Um, yeah. That about does it. Thank you guys for having me on. Thanks for joining us. Appreciate it. We said we'll be following the journey. Keep it up. Of course. Maybe we'll get around and golf in one of these days. 100%. I need some serious swing lessons. I got you. Those irons look out. Got you.
SPEAKER_02You give me putting lessons.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I don't I don't know if you want that either. We'll see. But uh we'll we'll be back next week. Amelia, good luck this weekend. Thank you. Uh go beat up on the monarchs. Continue scoring goals, and uh, we'll be back next week. Yeah. Go out. Go out.
